Héctor Bellerin linked to player swap deal but Tierney offer needs upping…

Morning all.

England didn’t last long in their fight to win UEFA Under 21’s European Championships. Having been beaten by France in their opening match, they needed to win their second against Romania but got battered 4-2. Tournament over, although I think they have a dead rubber to play before heading home. Riess Nelson hasn’t been involved in the competition at all as yet, in fact it was Chelsea, Leicester and Everton who supplied the outfield players for the last match. That’s not to say Arsenal haven’t got players involved in this summers competition though as Guendouzi and Bielik are still going strong for France and Poland respectively.

It’s a bit different for Arsenal at the Women’s World Cup in France though as eleven players are on international duty. I’m pretty sure Arsenal have have made three new signings too, all of whom are involved in this summers competition. Scotland’s Kim Little, Lisa Evans and Jennifer Beattie are heading home though after their side went from 3-0 up to 3-3 in a late collapse against Argentina.

England though are doing well and today face Cameroon. A win and they’re into the quarterfinals. Norway and Germany are already through and my money is on France, USA, England, Sweden, Italy and Holland joining them although I’d love to see Spain cause a big upset by beating the Americans.

Another summer tournament in full flow is The Copa America, where again Arsenal have an interest with Lucas Torreira on duty for Uruguay. In the ACON’s, Alex Iwobi has been playing for Nigeria and Mohammed Elneny for the hosts Egypt.

And we wonder why so many players looked exhausted come the second half of the season. All the players on duty for their respective countries will get a break, an opportunity to recharge their batteries, some much longer than others though. Torreira joined us after a long World Cup campaign last summer but he missed pre season and it’s highly likely he could do the same this time around should his country reach The Copa America Cup Final on the 7th July, yet his place in the Arsenal team is key I think. He’s the only warrior we have in midfield right now although that could change before the new season kicks off.

Arsenal will be in America by the 16th July for the first of their pre-season fixtures and apart from those listed above, we should see a pretty strong squad. Most of our European players should be back in training by then as the last Euros qualifying fixtures were played on the 11th June and the younger who hope to be forcing their way into the side next season, will no doubt be joining them.

Perhaps Kieran Tierney will be in the squad too if Arsenal really are trying to sign the 22 year old left back. Mind you, it’s going to take more than the £15m we’ve offered, if all the headlines published on News Now have any truth in the content which follows them.

Gossip:

The Mirror are running a story suggesting Hector Bellerin is wanted by Atletico Madrid – with the Gunners being offered former Sevilla player Vitolo as a sweetener.

’Sweetener’ – a top notch right back for a 29 year old player Atletico are happy to cast aside? A big fat no thank you! Unless £50+ million comes with him of course.

On that note, good luck to the England women. Their match is live on BBC1 later this afternoon.

Catch up in the comments guys..

Thank you for your words of wisdom Jimmy. The article was scheduled to post but in the meantime, I’d forgotten to spell/grammar check.

    Wrists slapped.. 😂

  2. Limey says:

Our transfer strategy seems remarkably similar to the past 5-10 years, the asking price for Kieran Tierney is £30m so we offer…..£15m (plus Carl Jenkinson) what could possibly go wrong ?
Very quiet on the transfer front, for most clubs to be fair.Maybe things will pick up after 30.06 when contracts expire.
A good tournament to miss for Reiss Nelson, although he might play in the final group game.
Arsenal players are just not fashionable,at least in the men’s game as Rico points out.Looking forward to the Cameroon game,I can’t stand Phil Neville though.

I kind of understand the £15 million offer for Tierney Limey. Transfer Market have him at £12 million but unless a player has a get out clause, offering big money to begin with would be foolish. Unless the club selling has already said what their figure is of course.

It’s what Arsenal do next which matters I think.

I’m having a bad day Lc, clearly. That’ll teach me eh… lol

I’ve corrected the post now. Well, deleted it… 😝

  5. Le Coq Monster says:

You can take my comment down then so to look like you were on the ball and no disciplinary action will be taken, but it goes on record as a warning ! 😆

    Morning Gooners
Morning Rico, I too have days like today, most days in fact… 😄

Tierney has had a few serious injuries so that may explain our opening bid and why not many big clubs are in for him – just yet?
Hopefully Charlie Nicholas knows the lad and will point him towards N.5, then we can focus on flogging Kolasinac.

  7. allezkev says:

So, La Liga’s version of Everton think that Arsenal are vulnerable enough for them to bid for Bellerin, just shows how weak we must look to the rest of Football (if true) – I’d just tell them that the price for our right back is £70m, that should end any kind of conversation.

  8. Limey says:

In any case seems a lot to spend on a full back,in my opinion our priorities should be a centre back and a winger.
We have also been linked with Meunier of PSG who I think is a Right back, who can play left back, so maybe that is where Emery is looking.
If you look at Liverpool they have a pretty functional midfield. If that was Arsenal we would all be saying where’s the creativity.Liverpool have young, energetic full backs, who are great crossers.Maybe that’s how Emery wants to go.Of course Liverpool’s midfield are all hard working and energetic, which can’t be said for all our lot.
Not long ago,we were ahead of them financially. Now they are miles ahead.
We should be trying to emulate them though, hopefully that’s already happening, with smarter contracts etc
    Only 7 week’s until Newcastle.
    Come on England !

  9. Le Coq Monster says:

I`ve come out with an original term ( well I think it is as I`ve never heard anyone else say it before, so it could be a world exclusive for HH 🙂 for people or media or NN who give out rubbish transfer window rumours !, they will become known as TWL`s…………..Transfer Window Lickers !………………simple but genius ! 😆

  10. rico says:

Haven’t we got two young full backs coming through the academy? Surely signing a 22 year would, to quote Arsene Wenger, block his progress.

We need experienced players in my opinion, experience to help the younger players come through.

  11. potter says:

They are looking at resale value . Buying players that end their contracts in their 30’s is not cost effective.

    Morning all.
Some of the ladies aren’t playing like ladies at all.
So much diving and just dirty okay happening.
    It’s spreading.
Two of my kids copped stud up
Challenges on the weekend, we boy to hear the opposition coach applaud his kids.
One was so close to a broken leg, it wasn’t the least bit funny.

  13. ScottfromOz says:

    It’s always disappointing, Rico.
I just hate to see the end result put ahead of all else.

  14. rico says:

Next week think Jm, some but obviously not all.

It’s been like that Scott since money took over. Probably why I’m losing interest in the game by the day.

  15. RA says:

    Morning Rico,

Doh — it’s not morning, is it? It’s reading that Le Coq comments that undoes my brain. How jolly dare he? All that stuff about a world breaking new word — my version of his ‘genius’ word “TWL” which of course is not a word, is “TWF” which isn’t a word either, and means “Transfer Window Fulminators”.

Every 6 months, or so, during the transfer windows, we end up with very naughty procrastinations from the odd, very odd, individuals — and the media aren’t much better.

I would like Arsenal to get Tierney, who is indeed a left back – ish – but he often plays as a right back for Scotland, because he is pretty much on a par with Liverpool’s Robertson, who only plays on the left, and very good he is too, not that you heard that from me, and also I am not an AMN fan at right back — but Arsenal are farting around, as usual, by offering a fraction of what Celtic are asking — instead of getting on with it -and completing the deal – so all Arsenal are doing is alerting the other clubs of his availability, and that they can easily beat Arsenal’s pathetic offer, because we only have a little transfer budget — thank you Mr Kroenke.

  16. allezkev says:

Apparently we’ve offered Tierney a very lucrative contract, but it’s just shadow boxing atm with Celtic although I think (I hope) it’ll get done by the end of the week.

Kroenke maybe needs to free up some more funds and then we need to sell to balance our books, selling Kolasinac would be a big help if we get Tierney.

As I’ve said before, I ain’t too fussed about who we sell, some might lose their shit if we sell Aubameyang, but I won’t as long as we replace him with another quality player, just someone younger.

It’s all gone quiet over Claude Maurice and Saliba, that is until July 1st and then it’ll all kick off.
Martinelli as well, despite the rubbish on News Now etc, deals will get done very soon.
