Have Arsenal Packed Their Kwells? Wenger Gets There At Last…..

Morning all.

Happy birthday to Arsene Wenger who is 65 years old today.

Retirement age isn’t it? Sadly not but darn I wish it was and applied to football management. Fergie wouldn’t have won as many trophies as he did and now we’d be wondering who is set to become our new manager. If only eh….

Anyway, the birthday boy has been talking about the team news ahead of tonight:

Chambers is back in our squad after suspension. Coquelin is not in the squad. Szczesny is not here as he is suspended and will be replaced by Martinez.

And on the injury to David Ospina:

It is exactly the same one [as from the World Cup]. He had his first injury at Nice – it was a knee problem and he was a bit rushed back and did not use his leg, so his muscle became weaker. Then he got injured in the World Cup. After that, he came to us injured after the World Cup and it took him two months to play again. I had to bring him on against Galatasaray without a warm up and being prepared, so he had a recurrence of that injury. It means he is out for two to three months, now we have to be really careful because it is a recurrence of a thigh injury, which is very difficult. It is a long-term injury.

Beggars belief doesn’t it! I’m sure there must have been other goalkeepers available in the summer and ones who were fit. Alex McCarthy springs to mind, a big, tall and strong keeper who excelled for Reading but no, yet again Wenger signs a crock, a player who we won’t now see until January.

Emiliano Martinez will now get his chance and I hope he takes it. He’s only 22 years old but so is Thibaut Courtois andΒ David de Gea is just one year older. If he’s good enough, he’ll prove it tonight and lets not forget, Szczesny was his age when he was first confirmed as our number one keeper!

Wenger:

It is a big game for us and I just dedicate all my energy to getting things right to perform, because at the moment I feel there is a difference between the quality of our performances and the points we get.

We want to add something to the quality of our performance and get the points that you feel is there in the team. That little percentage we can improve in the team is vital and I hope we get it.

Well Arsene, that’s your job. Get the defenders defending properly, the midfield organised and get the players motivated and make no room for any passengers.

Not only are we missing Szczesny, Ospina and Coquelin but we travel without Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo. Not sure what is happening with Mikel Arteta, but Aaron Ramsey should be fit to start, as should Jack Wilshere.

Despite our absentees, Anderlecht manager Besnik Hasi insists his side won’t take us lightly:

Arsenal are playing in the Premier League every week – they are playing big games. We are playing in a smaller competition and we need these types of games to get better.

We are a very young, talented team. But for us it will be a mistake if we are thinking that because Arsenal are missing some players and have not been at their top level in their competition, they will not be difficult opponents. That mistake will not happen here.

Well I hope the boys have packed the Kwells today as our last match on the road was a disaster. The way we rolled over for Borussia Dortmund was embarrassing! A repeat of that kind of showing again tonight will leave us with an uphill battle to progress through to the knock-out stages.

It’s about time this team clicked, it’s about time Arsene Wenger got the balance of the team right and each player does his job and does it well. That has to happen tonight otherwise our Champions League hopes will hang by a thread. Well, getting out of the group stages I mean….

We are playing Anderlecht, not Munich, Madrid or Barcelona! This is a night on which we should be thinking about nothing other than returning to London with three big points in the bag and I’m confident we will.

A display similar to what we witnessed against Galatasary should make sure we do!

Arsene Wenger will then have had a nice birthday and he deserves that doesn’t he……

COYRRG’S!!

Have a good one all…..

Scott I think there’s managers out there that wouldn’t put up the shit that happens at Arsenal and deal with it accordingly!
Bayern’s wage bill less than ours……

  2. scottfromoz says:

Rico, not long to go til seasons end πŸ™‚
Lee, would those managers ever get the job though?
It’s probably what we need, but let’s face it, Wenger stood up to be counted when a sook stamped his feet, yet ever since the guy signed with Chelski, Wenger has copped it πŸ™‚

  3. rico says:

    Cheeky Adam… πŸ˜‰

It sure had Scott, at least two in and a few out!

Yes Adam, he is, barely ever in the Uk… lol

  4. sunny says:

First of all, HBD to you Professor Arsene Wenger. Please, as you turned 65yrs today, do us a favour and throw in the towel. Enough of buying injury prone and free worthless players. You have given Arsenal your best shot and have nothing new to give the team anymore. Please, help the team and resign your appointment and go to Monaco. Please, am pleading. Thank you and HBD.

  5. Wavy says:

Glad to see you are in optimistic mood Rico.
Really hope we win tonight. I hope we have enough as we are sending out quite a few not quite first teamers! Still Arsene knows best!
I sincerely hope he has a good day, it being his 65th birthday and all. Wonder what presents he has had? A new pension book holder? A renewal form for his Senior Railcard, perhaps? A concession army voucher for all his personal tickets to see Arsenal games?
And, I hope, unlike his last great milestone, his 1000th game I/c Arsenal it does not play out in the same way! That would be most disappointing.
Lastly I think the younger members of the team should take him to Annabel’s and let him booGie the night away. The Ox knows where to it is!!

Although i want the gunners to win, and come game time ill be cheering them on.. although lately i can’t help it but I’m beginning to not give a fuck anymore.. think it boils down to frustration with wenger. I find myself thinking…..

Would it be better if we’re knocked out of the CL?
We only make up the numbers in it anyhow.?
is the europa league more are level.?
at least we’d have chance if winning that.?

I just wonder what other fans are thinking, what if half the stadium is thinking like this? Surely the writing is on th he wall for wenger.

  7. rico says:

Don’t want or need Thursday/Sunday football Kel. I’d rather we finish bottom of the group than to end up in that competition…

  8. rico says:

Silly me Bt.. I think he probably does, it’s just his best seems good enough….

His views are ancient and his standards have clearly dropped…

  9. Bt62 Gooner says:

Kel, that would be another competition we would not win, beside that it would ruin Rico soap viewing….lol

  10. kel says:

Fair enough rico, although on current league form we ain’t getting top 4 imo. Maybe keeping are options opened via the europa league would be worthwhile, as the winners qualify for the CL next season.

  11. kel says:

Your right bt lol what was I thinking… we won’t win it anyhow lol….
i know excatly what will happen now we will qualify and draw Bayern lol…

  12. Bt62 Gooner says:

Kel, we don’t have a squad big enough for the PL or C/L, nor the quality for that matter. The Europa League has a lot more games, some in the far flung corners of Europe, so forget about that.

  13. rico says:

If we don’t get top four then so be it imo, the club will only have themselves to blame, from Kroenke through to Wenger…

  14. Bob John says:

    Hi Rico and all.
Can’t help remembering our last game in Belgium in the CL away to Standard Leige. A very young Mannone had to play in goal because our first choices were unavailable and we were two down in no time Somehow we managed to scrape a 3-2 win. Wouldn’t be too confident of that happening tonight if we go behind early!

  15. Bt62 Gooner says:

Rico, ours, we brought a back up goalkeeper who wasn’t even an eligible player, so no Goalkeeper on the subs bench..ffs

  16. rico says:

    Hi Bob.

I’m quietly confident ahead of tonight, we can’t play like we have for much longer, one day it all has to click. Today’s the day… lol

  17. Bt62 Gooner says:

Rico, the thing is, this has happened on a number of occasions over the last few years, do they ever learn?….Do they Fcuk….Bloody embarrassing…Big Club my arse.

  18. rico says:

Agree Bt, just don’t understand what is going on at the club. Well, perhaps I do, it’s call Kroenke and his puppets…!

  19. kel says:

Signing injured players, including a player in the CL squad that isn’t an eligible player lol. My god Arsenal are comedy gold.

Flamini for gk in the 2nd half lol…

  20. BrainwashedKev says:

    Good post Rico… Honest πŸ˜‰

We shouldn’t really have any worries about facing Anderlecht , home or away.
The fact that we do, says everything about the current situation and the shambles that is the Arsenal defence…

I couldn’t give a flying feck what January rumours abound NewsNow etc, because we won’t buy anyone of substance.
As for the Hummels rumours, well that is just a total croc of shit…

Yep, a couple of injury-prone freebies might come in, possibly on loan.
But don’t get your hopes up that there’s gonna be any game-changing signings…

Wenger started the summer well, but ultimately fcuked up, as he nearly always does.
Next summer will be the same and the summer after…
The club (Syrup) will do sweet fa, and Charlie Chips will just play cards, the old tosser.

    And so it goes!

  21. BrainwashedKev says:

    Rico πŸ˜€

    Actually i am… πŸ™‚

That is, until I think of Arsenal, then I morph in Wath… πŸ˜›

  22. BrainwashedKev says:

Hi BT, no mate, but yesterday I had this Austrian guy, who has got a ticket to travel on that Richard Branson space shuttle, apparently he’ll be the first Austrian into space, sometime next March…

  23. George says:

    Hi all

The goalie we have Deyan Iliev in reserves, Albanian /Bulgarian whatever, is he not eligible to play?

Tonight will be a scramble for a 1 nil or 2-1.

It won’t be pretty football either.

Sunderland away is the one I’m more scared about.

Talkin of Jay Simpson yesterday, he’s signed up for Orient and score in under 2 mins last night….And we have Sanogo…

  24. rockyrocastle07 says:

Just as an FYI – I’m putting my daughter in her Arsenal Babygro tonight…. Her record wearing it so far is DLDL (2-2 Man City, 2-0 Dortmund, 1-1 Spuds, 2-0 Chavs). Not a great record, I admit…. but looking at it, if the trend continues, the worst we will get tonight is a draw…..

  25. Bt62 Gooner says:

Rocky, last night we took a schoolboy gk to the u19 match in Belgium, who couldn’t get on the bench because he wasn’t eligible…

  26. rockyrocastle07 says:

I saw you post that earlier. That’s just amateur hour at its finest. Does no-one at the club keep tabs on who they submit as eligible players? obviously not as that’s not the first time is it. Wenger ballsed up with Miyaichi last season for the exact same thing. Fuckwits.

  27. Bt62 Gooner says:

Rocky, you can add, J.E.T and Ansah before that, i think it was to do with him not being included in the original squad that was submitted, hardly his fault.

  28. BrainwashedKev says:

Well Wenger’s in charge of everything…

Nothing, it seems, gets done without his say so…

Therefore, the buck must stop at his door!

  29. BrainwashedKev says:

It must be Wenger’s fault that Adam didn’t get a Cup Final ticket, ax he probably runs the box office as well…

  30. rico says:

    Evening folks..

Didn’t Jonker suggest he’s ready to break the trend of all things going through Arsene Wenger?

  31. Wavy says:

I’ll wager it was Wenger’s fault that an unregistered player was taken to Anderlecht last night, but old Teflon fingers will have blamed Jonker. Another nail in the userper’s coffin!
Arsene Wenger till he dies! The new North Bank shout! What a winner!

  32. rico says:

Sadly I think you are right Adam…

Sorry, I nipped off to eat and now I stink of Garlic! Think I put a bit too much in my veggie lasagne….. Oops

  33. BrainwashedKev says:

Evening Adam, yep I heard about the Ottawa attacks.

A soldier killed by a hit n run a couple of days ago.
    And another shot dead today…

And yes, it’s only a matter of time before some scumbag does something in this country…

  34. Rick says:

How rude of me Evening Rico and the House
As you all are saying what a sad mad world we all live in. Any idea where C/C lives rico.
    I hope he is safe

  35. potter says:

That is one thing about Chat rooms and forums it brings you close to people that you would never meet . I am sure that we all hope the CG is o.k. along with everyone else. It’s a tragic world sometimes. In fact most of the time. Spike Milligan said that heaven and Hell exists , this is Hell and we are in it.

  36. rico says:

    Very much do Bt…

Agree Potter. Haven’t seen Agag here for a while and I do worry that she’s ok often….

  37. Bob John says:

Quite scary how bad we are. Ramsey gone from world class to pub class during the summer. That’s what marriage does to you

  38. Lewis says:

Sanchez is our only player capable of doing something unpredictable. How long till that’s trained out of him?!

  39. Wavy says:

Not much longer. Ozil is his mentor! It was about now last season that his form and ability was coached out of him!
Don’t worry Sanchis will be pants on Saturday v Sunderland!!
Where is Cesc when we need him?

  40. Joaquim Moreira says:

Who did tell Chambers is a rigth back? It’a amazing. He must play in thr middle. He on the right, is always ina a bad position and run to the mddle. Moreover, he hasn’t speed enought. Put him like a DM.
what’s happen to Ramsey? he muth be keep in shape. He must training fisrt, be well and then able for playing.
Gibgbd, is not in a good performance.
    Why AW didn’t put Bellerin?
This is the worst Arsenal team since last 15 yers

  41. BrainwashedKev says:

    Evening All…

    Just listening to the radio.

    Sounds a pile of crap…

But Liverpool are losing 0-3 πŸ˜†

  42. BrainwashedKev says:

I’m really not sure where Wenger goes from here, if we lose…

The Commentator on 5Live mentioned that today is Arsene’s birthday and wondered what the Arsenal fans would like to give him as a present, and I thought, his P45..?

  43. BrainwashedKev says:

According to Phil Neville on 5Live, Arsenal are keeping it tight until around the 70th minute and that’s when Anderlecht should run out of steam and that’s when Arsenal will the game…

About another 7 or 8 minutes to go before the Gunners sweep Anderlecht aside… 😐

  44. BrainwashedKev says:

Lewis, we have some very good players in this Arsenal team, you can only really blame the manager for its lack of spirit, drive and hunger…

  45. BrainwashedKev says:

I know that it’s unlikely, but I’d like to see Joel Campbell given a run-out.

Well, there ya go, 1-0 to the home team… πŸ™

  46. BrainwashedKev says:

Hey BT, don’t knock it mate, the Europa Cup could be a blast…

I know that Adam is desperate to come with me and visit all those interesting and obscure Eastern European teams…

The Ukraine looks the place to visit.., πŸ˜‰

  47. Lewis says:

It’s just the same thing churned out game after game. It hasn’t worked for years, why not change?!! Its crazy.

  48. BrainwashedKev says:

Not sure Lewis, confidence is very important.
But you have to wonder if the players still ‘believe’ despite all their bland public statements

  49. scottfromoz says:

Our guys are playing with no energy….well, maybe two or three are.
Whilst I apportion blame to the individual, it could well be time for Arsene to step aside, as something most definitely needs to change.
We will finish 7th or 8th at this rate.

  50. rockyrocastle07 says:

That’s me done with this team until Wenger goes. Had enough. Too many lacklustre performances. Not doing it anymore

  51. rico says:

Like I said, any win will do…..

Just how we did that I don’t know but blimey riley we did….

    Night all…..

  52. Bradster says:

So, Wenger will say, Anderlecht played well, we kept plugging away and showed our heart to come back and win it.

  53. scottfromoz says:

No cracks are covered, mate……when I start saying we are shit and Arsene should go, you know the paper ain’t working anymore hahahahahaha

  54. AndrewH says:

Should have been two or three down, awful performance, take lucky for once though. Cazorla, what is he doing?

  55. BrainwashedKev says:

Thats right Scott, we’re rubbish atm, and what you need in those circumstances is a few lucky wins…
Another lucky win at Sunderland is what we need.

  56. rockyrocastle07 says:

True Scott! Brad, spirit and mental strength got us through, and the quality within the team. Forget that the defence was shambolic, Cazorla was pitiful, Rambo is Rambo circa 2012, not the Rambo of la at year, and those stupid fucking habit our players have adopted in stepping over the ball and letting if run. It’s not worked since Yorke/Cole in 1999. Stop it, dickheads. Control it and have a fucking dig.

  57. BrainwashedKev says:

Beat Anderlecht at home and we’re virtually into the knockout, although home to Dortmund and away to Galatasaray won’t be easy…

  58. Judge me in May says:

Shit performance but good result.. Lucky lucky arsenal..
I will sleep better tonight for sure..
I am glad that Wenger put Campbell on.. I thought he was saving him for january sale..
Poldsky ball control is awful, but boy can he finish!
One thing I give Wenger credit for is that he didn’t sign Balotelli..

  59. Joaquim Moreira says:

what a bad image we send to the Europe and to the world.
We are tired, without spirit, football and passion.
In the last ten minutes, ina any anderlecht counter-attack there are more Anderlect players then rsenal players…. we played without any sense in the midfield. they didn’t defend. They could score one twice… (one of the shots hit the post)
In the goal. Mrts was anywhere and Chambers went to the center… It’s so clear we couldn’t play at rigth back. He hasn’t any notion whar is play in right back and he hasn’t speed enought.
It’s obviously that the players came in from the bench are fresh and the others are tired and our of the form.
With this team, playing with the same players and always with the same system without a plan B or C, we must trying to be in the first 10 in the League

  60. BrainwashedKev says:

    Seen the goals…

Fantastic volley from Gibbs and a cool finish from Podolski.

Terrible defending for the Anderlecht goal…

    Night all

  61. Nashua gunner says:

Joaquim Moreira. I agreed with you. It’s hard to believe this was Arsenal playing. But we’ll get 4th again and everything will be normal again.

  62. rockyrocastle07 says:

Terrible defending all game Kev. BT – that’s why neutrals love merse. He doesn’t look at his old team through rose tinted specs, like Phil Thompson, Charlie Nicholas etc. Doesn’t talk shit yo make us look good. He says it like it is. Same as Wright, Keown, Adams, Dixon etc. If we’re dogshit, he’ll happily dig them out.

  63. Judge me in May says:

All the media crap we had to put up with from the Liverpool ex players in the last few days has ended in a massive disappointment…
and they brought back where they belong..
    Shankly this and Istanbul that..
    What a pile of shite..
    Nite all..

  64. Adam says:

As a comical aside. “All that matters is the win”. Believe that and you’ll believe Arsene’s fantasy football is going to win us the PL this season.

  65. Lee says:

Merson’s post match analysis of Arsenal on Sky Sports was bang on the money absolutely hit the nail on the head, I’ll try and find the link somewhere!
Wilshere goes off and we score two goals…..coincidence?
We really are in deep shit….Sanchez does not give up all game, why oh why don’t the other outfield players take heed?

  66. Adam says:

Morning Rico, Brudder and all. I actually find it hard to describe just how bad we were last night. Just about every attribute a good team needs was missing. With the exception of Alexis, the team was shockingly bad. It is getting worse and worse, by the game too. I feel sorry for Wenger in a way but he has stood by and watched the spiral into wretchedness as we have and has seemingly done zero about it. Just how much longer can this go on for is anybody’s guess. We played the game with effectively no midfield. I cannot remember a single decent thing coming from Jack or Aaron during the whole game. Totally unacceptable and another step toward the crisis that is looming.

  67. rockyrocastle07 says:

Morning all. Alexis wasn’t alone… Although he ridn’t score, I think Welbeck was full of running and never gave up. When you get dick-all support from your midfielders, any striker would find it difficult. Our midfield was simply hideous.

  68. Lewis says:

The midfield is a massive issue, but that’s what happens when you load it with small technical players (and Flamini, he’s just small). Every arsenal fan has been crying out for a big strong destroyer since Gilberto left, I think there’s probably only one person associated with arsenal that can’t see we need that player. That player allows the technical players the freedom to play. Wouldn’t mind seeing chambers moved there, put bellerin right back. Not ideal but at least it’s trying something new. So dispondant about our team I barely got excited when we equalised and scored the second.

Merse nailed what we are all saying, he’s a fan and feels like we do. We’ve all had enough.

  69. Adam says:

Morning Rocky. You are right. Wellbeck was ‘less bad’ than some others. Being an Arsenal supporter is enormously frustrating isn’t it? We know that, bar a series of divisive mass protests, nothing will happen, yet with every new low there is this horrible feeling that nothing is really happening. Add to this the possibility that whoever comes in might need to instigate a player cull so deep it could take a while turn it around. I only hope that Kroenke doesn’t have the stomach for it. At the moment it looks like we will need an entirely new defence and midfield. Or perhaps that’s just Wenger’s influence that makes it look worse than it is. I dunno.

  70. Adam says:

Lewis. I wouldn’t count on that. I can see him wanting out quite soon actually and I couldn’t blame him.

  71. Lewis says:

That is the worry Adam, how many of the current squad would have to be binned to move forward? I would say quite a few!!

  72. Adam says:

Lewis. If you look purely at recent performances than I agree. But surely these players can’t be as bad as they seem. This is what happens when you let things drift like Arsene has. Unless you are constantly recycling areas of the team and looking to improve and refresh and reinvent, you are finished and that is what we are seeing perhaps.

  73. Adam says:

There is a real lack of realism about Arsene these days as well, as Merson pointed out in a roundabout way. It is worrying but I think the price we have to pay to move forward as he nears the exit.

  74. Adam says:

Lee. Me too. The Wilshere conundrum? Could it be solved by another manager? What the hell has happened to Ramsey? Etc, etc…

  75. Lewis says:

agreed Adam, any top manager would have taken the squad we had in the summer, strengthened the areas that were obviously needed and been a lot more prepared for the season ahead. Instead of having a jolly at the World Cup.

  76. Lewis says:

Wilshere played a couple of good games for England as a DM, then wenger fills his head with thoughts that he is wasted back there so he now wants to burst forward clogging up the space ahead and leaving us open at the back. I say open because flamini might as well not be there.

  77. Adam says:

Lewis. Yes, but it goes back a lot longer than that doesn’t it? For seasons and seasons really and now that the ‘no money’ excuse has dried up and Gazidis and Wenger have given it large about financial prudence Wenger has made a string of decisions so incomprehensible to most of us that it seems bizarre to me that he seems surprised at our spiral downwards.

  78. Lee says:

Actually we can say player A or player B would be the bollocks for us but unfortunately with Wenger’s tactics it’s all a pipe dream. The best new signing would be a new manager, sad but true!

  79. Adam says:

Wenger sees Pogba as a winger Brudder. And don’t forget, as Gazidis said, we only have Β£20 million in the bank. That’s less than Kev. πŸ™‚

  80. rico says:

    Pogba would be awesome…

Morgan would be a top signing too, but I bet there’s a cheap French midget somewhere waiting to sign. Perhaps one who is about to return from two seasons out of the game!!

  81. Adam says:

No more signings for Wenger please. It makes no sense for him to now address needs that go back several seasons.

  82. frednerk says:

    Morning All,
To play like that and win is bonus for us fans……….
But nearly every game this season we are looking like we will lose.
    Wenger reckons we are unlucky,
Wengers reckons we are outplaying all before us..in every game.
So now we know for sure…
Wenger is seeing a different game to all of us.
Men in white coats…….comes to mind again.

  83. Adam says:

Brudder. The happy clappers must have gone to Untold where they can blame the refs, the pitch and the savage effect of the low pressure weather system sweeping in from the west.

  84. Lee says:

“Brudder. The happy clappers must have gone to Untold where they can blame the refs, the pitch and the savage effect of the low pressure weather system sweeping in from the west.”
    πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  85. Adam says:

Balotelli was always a risk Brudder. Brenda took it and it has bitten him in the ‘arris. Even his whitened teeth and IWC Big Pilot are scant compensation.

  86. frednerk says:

A man who was completely paralysed from the waist down can walk again after a British-funded surgical breakthrough which offers hope to millions of people.
Polish surgeons used nerve-supporting cells from the nose of Darek Fidyka, a Bulgarian man who was injured four years ago, to provide pathways along which the broken tissue was able to grow.

    Hope for Diaby..Arsene.

  87. Lee says:

My dad came over to my place last night to watch the game ( he’s a supporter for over 60yrs) at half time he said I’ve had enough this crap I’m off home! Wtf is going on at Arsenal???
