Has Wenger been moonlighting? AC Milan flop wanted by Arsenal…..

Morning all…

Seeing as there is not much news for the men, it’s good to give the others teams within the club a bit of airing.

Yesterday, the Ladies defeated their Italian opposition ASD Torres 3-1 in the first leg of their quarter final fixture. Shame they leaked an away goal, but surely they must feel confident of reaching the semi’s? This side will score goals, and there’s no betting against them getting that away goal back quite soon into the second leg.

I forgot to mention yesterday’s fixture was the first under new manager Shelley Ker who said this after the game:

I thought they were fantastic. It wasn’t an easy game and it’s not going to be an easy game in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and I thought the girls were magnificent in their discipline and their organisation.

The downside is that we created our own problems, but that’s because the players had the will to go and play and be creative. I’ll never stop them doing that because I think it’s attractive football to watch.

That sounds right out of the ‘Arsene Wenger Coaching manual doesn’t it? Has he been training these girls since Vic left?

Why do these Arsenal managers play such a game. Why do they concentrate on the attractive side to the game at all costs?

Ok, hopefully the ladies scoring three goals will see them through but how many times does just one away goal cost dear, too many is the answer in my opinion.

And then what happens with the younger ones later in the day, they play all the good football and concede the first goal to the Mancs!

But, they fought back and secured all three points at the end so will anyone really ‘care’ about the goal given away?

Overall, it was a good day for The Arsenal!

I’m ending with the gossip today:

The Independent suggest that we, along with Chelsea and Newcastle United are leading the chase to sign St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Having had a torrid time at AC Milan, including a few loan spells, he was released from the Italian club and went on to sign for St Etienne but he has no plans to say there.

His goal to game ratio is roughly one in every two games, so, on paper, he is not the prolific striker we need but in a side which creates chances as we do, who knows eh..

Remember the last ‘flop’ we signed from one of the Milan sides……

Then there is the link to Fernando Amorebieta, the 6′ 4″ central defender who plays for Athletic Bilbao

His brother has Spanish Newspaper Marca:

We have had contacts with Anzhi, who are very interested in his services, but given the desire to play in England, that move cannot take place. We are in contact with Arsenal.

Still laughing over that one?

Well this will make you laugh a little more.

Amorebieta is so so good, he’s made just 15 appearances for Bilbao this season! Come back Squilli, all is forgiven.

On that note, I really need to go and have a lay down.

Or should that be a lie down….

Have a good day all….

    Good Morning Rico.

It looks like the ladies have more guts than the men these days.

Well, if you’re not good for Bilbao what make you think you’re good for Arsenal??? PHW “We don’t you kind here”…

  2. ozgunner10 says:

good article, enjoyable read. I too am becoming worried about this truckload of nothing but ‘future potential’ buys we seem to be focusing on, surely we won’t go this painful road again…. will we?

  3. NashuaGunners says:

Mr. Wenger we all know you can turn water into wine and you’ve proved that time and time again, but now please do the right thing and buy a proving players if the fund is made available to you. If, I mean ‘IF’ it all talks about been available and it not, please come out and say it and that will be the honorable thing to do.

  4. Dick Swiveller says:

A one in two ratio at a smaller club is very good imo, I think Ronaldo and Messi have spoilt everyone!

Bellerin keeps impressing and he’ll get himself a few chances in the first team, still don’t know why Eisfeld didn”t get a look in whilst our midfield was depleted at one point.

  5. Adam says:

    Morning Rico and all.
The most interesting and fascinating news of the day for me is that Voyager 1, launched 35 years ago may have passed into Interstellar Space. As it is now 11 billion miles away from the Sun it is now out of range of its influence and in an area that scientists can only hypothesise about.
The Sun is that big shiny thing you occasionally see in the sky. The FA refuse to acknowledge its existence.

  6. NashuaGunners says:

    Good morning Adam

I hope Stan and the board acknowledge the existence of the demise of the team, this youth program is not working and we being left behind by the likes of Manu, Mancity and Chelsea. Even those in mid table are trying to catch us. Gone are those days when Spurs used to shake in their pants when facing us.

I hope they (Stan and the board) run out of excuses because 4th begins to sound like trophy.

  7. Adam says:

Morning NG. Agreed. It’s that time of year when we all fervently hope that the lessons of the season will have been taken on-board. Many Arsenal supporters are natural sceptics, based on experience. This year has a slightly different and more urgent feel about it as if a turning point has been reached. Could well be wishful thinking though. 🙂

  8. Dick Swiveller says:

Youth program is already dead mate, last 8 signings: Nacho-26, Santi-26, Giroud-25, Poldi-27, Arteta-29, Santos-28, Per-28; plus the Ox, who was a youth signing.

Now, if we can stop haemorrhaging important players every Summer (something I think ain’t gonna happen this summer, unless you count Theo leaving but he looks like he doesn’t care any more so *shrug*) we’ll be able to move forwards.

  9. bc says:

ambioretta has not been used as much bcos of not signing a new contract. i believe this one is a done deal and he will replace either djourou or squillaci.

  10. Dick Swiveller says:

    Could well be, fred.

Sent off 10 times? Hell yes, we stopped winning when we stopped (regularly) getting red cards, get a bit of fire back.

  11. NashuaGunners says:

Dick Swiveller. Those younger stars you mentioned I do not mind at all when they come through the rank and become Arsenal main Blood-Vein. But what irks me the most is when they use Arsenal as a stepping stone. Look at Fabregas; our golden egg, always on the treatment table…How many time now since he left us has he been on the treatment table with Barc ??? We turned none-name to super stars, then they stepped-on to win trophy elsewhere.

Let buy proving and established material this time around. But only if Stan would let us.

  12. potter says:

If it’s so far from the Sun Adam at least it doesn’t have to read the bile printed every day, but it misses out on page 3.

  13. Adam says:

I can totally understand why players, when they become stars, want to move on from Arsenal. It is all part of what is wrong at the club. Players seldom feel the way that fans do.
As with everything about Arsenal and the way it is run, the wages it pays, it’s transfer policy and the way that it is currently structured- it is not geared toward winning trophies. The evidence of this is that it hasn’t won anything, as we are told every few minutes, for years.
I believe that, with our current wage bill, we could and should have won something. Even when we got to that bloody Cup Final against Birmingham, we bottled it. Why would Cesc want to leave? Was it because he felt the irresisttable pull of Barcelona or that he was being askd to play alongside players that he knew were nowhere near his level? Perhaps a combination of both? We can be pretty sure that Nasri went for the money I think, as he has looked a dummy at Man City, unable to rouse his game beyond the mediocre. Van Persie? A combination of money and the realisation that Chamakh and Gervinho were not the way forward added to the fact that he had seen plenty of World Class players leave and very few, if any, arrive. He is history now.
My own feeling is that a radical restructuring of the wage structure and a new and fierce focus on winning must be the way forward. Arsenal are the great sleeping giant of English and European football but Wenger must, if he stays, get a lot more real with players. Once we start winning again, everything else will follow. There will be new headaches certainly but the pieces are in place- almost. Kroenke has a massive role to play, as does Gazidis. Whether they will step up is anybody’s guess. I have my doubts.

  14. Adam says:

    Potter. 🙂
It is also out of Ferguson’s influence though it has been made aware of Pardew’s beard.

  15. Adam says:

It’s the only constellation with a black hole at the centre. The only thing that can escape is entitlement and hypocrisy. No light is emitted.

  16. potter says:

I thought the black hole was in Calcutta, He’ll have to ask the Venky’s as he will probably be looking for a new job soon.

  17. allezkev says:

Not familiar with who you mean Adam…

But I suspect someone of Carol Voderman proportions…

    Hmm, nice…

  18. Adam says:

I would have thought that, in the country, you would have had either an emergency generator or solar panels Rico.

Kev. I thought you would. 🙂

  19. rico says:

😆 Adam, I thought about connecting up to the nearest property which has a generator, but thought better of it… Might encourage a knock on the door….

  20. ozgunner10 says:

shame you’re not closer Rico i could have set you up with a neat little solar power generator of your very own 🙂 Handy things especially for the more adventurous types

  21. Adam says:

Rico. Oz could have popped over, fitted you some solar panels and put a new bathroom in at the same time. No problem. He’s good like that. 🙂

  22. ozgunner10 says:

actually September will be good i can watch the world class players we brought in action!!! Go Arsene

  23. allezkev says:

Not sure what to think about the linkage to Amorebieta?!!!

But cheap doesn’t always mean bad, as Jenkinson has proved…

Ignasi Miquel has to given a chance as well IMHO…

Whilst Sagna has shown that he has the ability to do a job at centre-back.
So maybe we’re quite well stocked in that position?

  24. allezkev says:

If Arsenal are going to make only ‘one big’ signing this summer, then I hope it’s a goalscorer…
That’s the one area where I think we need to strengthen above all others…

  25. allezkev says:

    When I say big signing, i mean £20million +…

    There’s plenty of scope and dosh for 2, 3 or 4 £10million + signings.

  26. allezkev says:

Jovetic, yep Wath, that’s who I had in mind.
Benzema would be my ideal choice mate, but that kinda move is unlikely.

With the way the Eurozone is going, Arsenal are in a strong position to pick some very vfm signings this summer…

Look at the vfm Newcastle got in the last two Windows!

  27. tsgh says:

    Hi all,

Ak, I have a fat controller sitting in my 3 year old’s bedroom…lol

SYG and I discussed Amorebieta in detail on the 31.01.13 when we almost signed him…

He is a very good player but unless TV is leaving or moving to CDM, I do not understand why we need another left footed CB… Football-wise he is like a cross between Wise/Keane and Cygan… 😉

    ie A psycho left footer…

  28. agirlagunner says:

    Boo!! You okay, rico?

WATH and AK, you guys don’t ask for much. 😉 Kev, there’s also a goalscorer, I’m keen on. 🙂

  29. tsgh says:

Hi WATH… like you Tom Ince is my preferred choice… he is a typical Rednose signing… very efficient no bsing like the younger Gerv down at Crystal Palace…

  30. tsgh says:

I wonder how SYG will feel about the Venezuelan Amorebieta doing one of those 24 hour flights to play qualifiers…

  31. tsgh says:

Which one Agag… there has only been 2 world class spanish recently…

one is a chav now who can not score from 2 yards and the other Raul has retired…. lol

    Michu or Llorente?

  32. rico says:

    🙂 Adam…

My little car has gone off to the menders today, I waved it goodbye through my window …

Torres by any change agag ?

  33. rico says:

But the electric drives the gas boiler Adam, or not as the case has been this afternoon..

Hi agag, I like the light bulb 😉

  34. agirlagunner says:

Right in one go, rico. 😛 I’m impressed.

ginge, the chav; whom I suspect has Arsenal DNA.

  35. rico says:

I’d love to see him in the red and white too agag, I think there is a great player ready to burst out, if only he could find happiness and feel settled…

And what better than to be among a few other fellow countrymen….

  36. Adam says:

You could always rub two Boy Scouts together to light the fire Rico. I tried it once when I was dressed as a Scout Master with my woggle. They seemed to enjoy it anyway. 🙂
I know Agag is worried about me again now, after my journey into the world of leather the other evening.

  37. tsgh says:

😀 He needs a bit of AW magic….. now I have to ask if you want him at Arsenal for footballing reasons? 😉

    Hi Rico…

  38. frednerk says:

We need a spine 4-5 players
    mature keeper to start with,a
    no-nonsense c/half
    a man in m/field
a quick striker, someone who is hated by everyone but us,

and for a cherry on the top,
a winger two footed with pace and a trick

not a lot to ask for is it.

  39. rico says:

Hi Ts, it would have to be for footballing reasons, Torres looks like a girl 😉

Totally agree fred, and that’s before anyone ‘important’ leaves, like Sagna/Vermaelen…

  40. agirlagunner says:

Adam, he looks like a proper fit for our club, is all. 😳

rico, I learned that from your Smileys tab. 😛

  41. tsgh says:

    no-nonsense c/half- am- Amorebieta…

TV was no non-sense when he arrived until he heard his best friend he dines with at Gilgamesh… Camden was leaving…

  42. W.A.T.H says:

I’d take Torres for 10million….. Tom Ince would be a proper good buy Ts….! He’s a gooner as well and he’s a little feisty as well.
AGAG we need those kind of quality players bought in… plus to get rid of the much deadwood we possess.

All those 50p’s eh Rico 😛

  43. Adam says:

I must admit that Torres does have fabulous thighs and that slightly arrogantly condescending look that I know that women love.
Yes, I want him at Arsenal too now. 🙂

  44. agirlagunner says:

Pure footballing reasons, rico. 😛 And yeah, sometimes, he does look like a girl.

frednerk, that’s not a long list at all.

  45. tsgh says:

Adam- I am sdurprised… I thought you like expensive menus…lol

when I go in there I expect Saddam Hussein or Nebuchadnezzar to come out of the décors…

On a serious note I do not rate it… I was stupid enough to go out there for a new years eve party… wow

  46. rico says:

Adam. I have to agree about his thighs. he also has a slight pouty (spelling) look…

Nothing like a wonky kind of look though 😉

  47. Adam says:

TS. No, I really like good food but have no leaning towards expensive menus although some expensive restaurants I have eaten in have been extraordinary. The Square for instance was fabulous. Gigamesh seem to charge what they can get away with as they are up in Camden Lock.
Now there’s a little Turkish place where the HH Curry Club meet down in Stoke Newington. You will know the area. Down there you are given a huge plate of seared animal flesh smothered in garlic for just a few quid. Rico would not approve though so keep it between ourselves.

  48. stevepalmer1 says:

    Evening all, nice one Rico.
I read that Czezesney’s Dad has blamed Wenger for his son’s form of late, apparently he made him play while he was nursing an injured Shoulder..All i can say to that is he can have a nice little rest now and get himself back to full fitness, but of course for the time being he will be No 2. I am hoping we buy another keeper but this time an accomplished one. His Dad also said that Wenger has used Czezesney as a scapegoat for our performances, I dissagree with that, i blame all of them.

  49. tsgh says:

Adiva is near Algate- commercial streeet… very cheap restaurant with the best cheese cake in town… I am sure Ak knows it…

And a belly dancing to go with it…i swear I saw Carol and Kim K both on the dance floor… lol

  50. agirlagunner says:

I did those degustation menus in NYC. The food was fun and gorgeously presented. But, mygod the bill!!

I’d love him forever if he loved balut, Adam.

  51. rico says:

    Hi Sp and thanks…

If I was Ches, I’d be livid. He only has to look at some of his performances to know why he was dropped. I’m sure, had Fabianski been fit, Ches would have been dropped sooner than he was

If he was injured, then he should have told Wenger.

    Ditto re an experienced keeper

  52. tsgh says:

Ah… I knew you would love it Adam…

its quite a classy place… I even take the Mrs there on occasions instead of Maroush… Edgware Road

  53. Adam says:

TS. Now I would pay to see that. Carol and Kim K eh!
I know that street well as I drive that way to go to Holborn all the time. Very busy down there these days.
Kev knows (almost) everywhere though I do catch him out occasionally.

  54. agirlagunner says:

Hi, SSP. How are you? Chesney has been poor; his father is conveniently disregarding that fact.

  55. tsgh says:

I know Mangal very nice place actually… I use to meet a colleague there a few moons ago who was based in Stamford Hill…

  56. rico says:

Don’t hold back Ts, you feel free …

Adam, you said it was your second wife who belly danced, you 3rd was a wrestler I thought? But at weekends dressed up as Carol Vordeman..

  57. Adam says:

Yes Agag. I have been unlucky in love with my first four wives. But then I do have certain peccadillos that some women find unnaceptable 🙂 Kev, Lee or Rocky will tell you about them.
After you first mentioned Balut I went on You Tube and saw someone eating it. I had to have a lay down after that. 🙂
When you come to London I am afraid there can be no Balut. 🙂
    Will fish and chips do?

  58. Adam says:

Rico. I am afraid you are dangerously close to exposing me now.
TS. I thought you might know it. A fire hazard if ever I saw one. 🙂

  59. agirlagunner says:

Hola, WATH. you’re in and out too. Have you been paying your electricity bill?

rico, Adam’s confused now. He doesn’t know which wife is which.

ginge, I did. 😕 There’s tax, plus service charge, plus MANDATORY tipping.

  60. tsgh says:

When it comes to turkish/Lebanese delights… I have done a few in my time… from posh Ishibilia, Noura, Maroush through to Yalla Yalla and Turkish Republic in Crawley but the best one for me has to be Adiva..

I also like Pasha in Islington…

  61. Adam says:

That’s true Agag. My dream is that they all live together and pass me round like you would with a DVD.:)

  62. tsgh says:

Agag… I can’t stand the compulsory service charge in Canada and USA…

I did some work in Arizona a few years ago and made a mistake of tipping… I could not claim that back through work… I am still crossed about that… 😀

Rico.. the best fish n chips I have eaten was from a chinese shop in wokingham of all places

  63. agirlagunner says:

The current Mrs Adam would object, I’m sure. She’ll go on a champagne-induced rage, if you’re not careful. And based on what you say, that’s not a pretty sight.

Targeting London next year, Adam. I love fish and chips. 🙂

No turkish or Lebanese restaurant here, tsgh. 🙁

  64. emma says:

    Hi all gunnersphere,

Amorebieta is a tenacious defender, good positioning sense, strong aerially and a tough tackler. Like tsgh said, there were strong indication in the winter transfer window that we would have signed him. He fell out with Biesla and hasn’t kicked a ball since the first week of Jan. Would love to see him in an arsenal shirt

Good to see Szezesny releasing a statement to counter his dad’s ranting

    https://twitter.com/Arsenal/status/314740628477059072

  65. agirlagunner says:

Ginge, it’s ridiculous. The wait staff always look mutinous if you don’t give at least 20%.

  66. Adam says:

Agag. You’re right. She is an enormously powerful woman. We are all looking forward to meeting you when you come. Perhaps we could swing an Arsenal game too? Would be fun.

  67. tsgh says:

Hi Emma, thanks for the link yesterday… a nice win for the boys…

Watching the manure reserves makes me proud to be an Arsenal fan…

Agag, on the tips… I always assume if you don’t tip them they might spit in your found the next time you go over there to dine… and I hear that is what most of the staff live on…

  68. stevepalmer1 says:

Hi Agag, fine thank you, hope i find you the same. Hi Rico, hasn’t impressed me at all but lots of supporters rate him and most of the time their right. Hi Emma glad to see he has responded, probably felt he may be on the bench for ever 🙂

  69. agirlagunner says:

Ginge we were asked to reconsider a 15% tip. Seriously. And the service wasn’t all that.

I would LOVE that, Adam. 🙂

No Ethiopian restos either. Pretty much everything else though. 😉

  70. emma says:

tsgh – We’ve got quality young players than Manutd. Manutd were very thuggish in their approach yesterday. Our youth players thought them the way to play football.
Speaking of the devil, an ex-manutd chairman to become the new FA in july (Greg Dyke). We are in for the long haul with manutd in charge of footballing in this country. They have the referee in their pocket, they arrange the epl fixtures to suite themselves(esp when playing CL they arrange it in such a way to have relatively easy fixtures)
    agag – 🙂

  71. tsgh says:

So from Manure to BBC to the FA… talking of conspiracy or what.

Agag, do you have a Tim Hortons on the westcoast? I will tip 15% for a donut though… lol

  72. tsgh says:

Emma-They are efficient…. the utd bunch… we have all the ball and still do not score enough… its shocking that we are not producing strikers at all

  73. rico says:

Ts – spooky enough, one the best I have had was cooked by a Chinese family too, same can be said for when I was a youngster, my folks bought theirs from a chinese run fish and chip shop….

  74. rico says:

Hi emma. Has Ches had a moan then….

    Nighty agag…

Sp, I know you have never been overwhelmed by Ches, you were right 😉

  75. stevepalmer1 says:

I went along with a lot of supporters but a Premier team need an experienced keeper , you see it every week when experience matters.

  76. tsgh says:

SP1- I think it is to do with Poom and Peyton. Hart has done ok and Neuer of Fc Bayern has not done badly himself… when Mr Wilson was there he looked assured.

His distribution is super poor for our standard and compared to Flappy he does not release the ball early enough when he has it toi restart the game…

  77. emma says:

Spot on tsgh. His kicking and ball distribution has not improved one bit since he broke into the first team. He keeps making the odd mistake just like TV5

  78. allezkev says:

If Thomas Vermaelen leaves in the summer.
Then the fascade of Arsenal not being a selling club, will be fully exposed.

There is no need to sell Veemaelen for football reasons.

But those wankers in the Boardroom will no doubt find a profit-making reason.

  79. potter says:

We as usual took too long to do the deal and that turned him against us.If you show a positive attitude the player will feel wanted if however you prevaricate they get the impression they are not wanted and you drive them into the arms of someone else.

  80. rico says:

I thought we’d get him Potter, the way his manager spoke, he was heading our way too.. But who really knows. Maybe it was all spin and the club he really wanted to join was where he is now….

  81. Scott from Oz says:

Kev, as much i have always loved Vermaelen, unless he is pushed forward and tried as a DM, it is pointless keeping him if a decent offer comes in.
    Give him a crack, Arsene.
I reckon he would be dynamite.
    Morning all.

  82. Scott from Oz says:

    Hi Ginge.
For what its worth, i still believe Szczesny will be a world class keeper.
He is still a baby in keeping terms, and top keepers always have a himt of arrogance.
It is not his fault that he is been thrown to the wolves at such an early age.
Joe Hart lets in just as many long range goals as our guy.
The balls they use these days dip amd swerve late, and all keepers have trouble with long range shots.
Think about this…..10,20 even 30 years ago, you would see 25 yard rockets scored where the ball never moved through the air an inch.
It doesn’t happen these days anywhere near as much.
Back to work now, but will jump in later.

  83. allezkev says:

Rico, I don’t want to see either Vermaelen or Sagna leave…
There are plenty of high earners who I want to see Wenger move on.
But Thomas and Bacary aren’t among who I feel Arsenal should get rid of…

  84. allezkev says:

Scottas far as Verm playing def/mid, I have been suggesting that for over a year, but I can’t see it happening.

As for selling him, we’ll I cannot agree.

Even if we get a ‘good offer’ there comes a time when enough is enough, and I feel that we have reached that stage.

Yes, as many have mentioned, Thomas has not had a stellar season, but do we sell every player who has a poor period performance wise???
Whose to say that Verm won’t play fantastically well next season?!
And how stupid will we look if he’s playing fantastically for another club.

I’m not interested in getting a good fee, bollocks to that.

I want Arsenal to keep all of it’s quality players and both Sagna and Verm fall into that catagory…

Otherwise we may as well accept that Arsenal are just another Southampton or Ajax…

  85. allezkev says:

As far as ‘your boy’ Fabianski is concerned, well I’m happy to see him stay in the team as long as he can keep up the good performances and clean sheets.

Despite the fact that he isn’t one of my favourite players, I would be delighted if he finally realised the potential that Wenger obviously sees in him.
If he can finish the season on a high note by helping us into the top three or four then give him a new contract and forget about signing another goalkeeper.

I’d rather the club push the boat out for a quality goalscorer, a player of that ilk could really push us on as I feel that there is a lot of quality in our squad already…
But if Wenger starts selling off our better players again (Sagna/Verm) then we’ll be back to square one next August, still trying to catch up…

We simply have to keep our best players, add one top top quality striker and a couple of £10mill signings, and with 2, 3 or 4 quality youngsters on the cusp of the first team, I think we’ll really have a tasty squad to go into 2013/14…

Oh, and some serious defensive coaching and maybe a new goalkeeping coach to put the cherry on the cake…

  86. allezkev says:

Ah Scott, I see that you simply cannot keep away…

Lucky you have an understanding boss… 😉

  87. allezkev says:

I had a busy one tonight Scott, and now I’m relaxing with a nice glass of red, to chill the mind before I hit the sack…

    Where’s that Dutchman got to???

  88. allezkev says:

Hey Ginge, I did hear that Harry Patterson was a metrosexual…

Maybe Adam will know for sure, I’ll ask him next time j ses him, that’s when he’s not asking me where certain obscure streets in London are, the tinker… 🙂
