Happy New Year, or will it just be another season to forget?

Firstly I just want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and may 2011 bring you good health and happiness. Thank you all for your contributions which have helped Highbury House take off and remain stable…

Happy New Year......

As well as the everyday happiness in your lives, I hope an extra special happiness will come to every Arsenal Fan and that can only come with a trophy or two in the empty cabinet at The Emirates. Ok, I know the cabinet won’t be empty but that’s because trophies travel, good job too otherwise all we would have at The Emirates is the trophy from the stadiums namesake competition, not good eh!

Still, right now we are not too many points away from the league leaders, we are in the Carling Cup semi-final, the FA Cup and of course the Champions League so winning all four is still possible but I doubt even the most loyal fan who only ever sees good will honestly believe we are capable of achieving that. The Carling Cup is ours to lose, the FA Cup is all about the luck of the draw, Barca, well if we knock them out, we can beat any team and the league, well we are in the best position we have been for a while. In fact the last time we were in a better position we played Birmingham and at St Andrews, 2008 was the year..

We all know what happened that day, it was horrid. We threw away our lead in the 94th minute, we then went on a run of poor results, not losing, but not winning either and most awful incident took place on the pitch. In effect, the incident which was the horrific tackle of Eduardo, ended his playing career with us. Our little Croatian has since left us, he had to for the sake of his footballing career, the Premier League was one step too far for him to overcome mentally. We lost our poacher striker, our proper number 9 and all because of that day and that game. Our season was doomed from that day….

However, today is not about getting revenge, it’s about getting back on track after dropping two points against Wigan in the week. It won’t be easy, we saw Manchester United didn’t get it all their way and could only manage a draw but we should have a fit and eager side today, the one that blew the chavs away. That’s the side we need today, that’s the spirit and attitude they need to display.
All they need to do is concentrate on us, get back on the winning road and secure three points.

Do that and by the time we get to May, we could just be thinking that 2011 is really a Happy New Year and not just another season full of ‘If Only’s’

I’ll finish as I started, Happy New Year to you all and here’s to three points on the road……

    First new signing 😉

Arsène Wenger has confirmed that Emmanuel Eboue has signed a new long-term contract at Arsenal.

The Ivory Coast international joined the Club six years ago and, ahead of Saturday’s game at Birmingham, had made 202 first-team appearances.

“He extended his contract one or two months ago. It is a long-term deal,” confirmed the manager at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

  2. The BearMan says:

Happy New Year to all at Highbury House!

Can all our players raise their performance levels to meet the challenges of this crucial part of the season?

Will our neighbours finally overhaul us?

  3. rico says:

    Same to you BearMan,

I’d like to answer yes to the first and no to the second but, two no’s are come from my head…

  4. agirlagunner says:

Hola! Happy New Year to all! A (belated) toast to hopes of loosened purse strings, signings, trophies and all good things! 🙂

  5. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

I am not sure that 3 points is realistic today. Brum have lost only 1 game in their last 18 home games!

Then I saw that Eboue had just signed a new contract and my heart sank. Why? I thought he was off to Italy.

  6. Erick says:

Howdy good people Happy New year to you all and Eboue contract extension is a sad one we deserve better Folks

  7. Steve Palmer says:

    Morning all
    Happy new year all
Well done Eboue, Father Christmas gave you your chance then, just hope your played on the right, because a left back your not, good luck to you anyway i hope the next 202 games you play are special

  8. Joaquim Moreira says:

Happy New Year. Hope you start 2011 with the right foot. German press said three days ago that Metsacker (Bremen) goes to Arsenal on January… It’s time to bring trophies to Emirats!

  9. rico says:

Howdy Erick, he’s ok as a back up RB, not a LB or LW though 😆

RA, i think we will win…

    Morning Steve and Joaquim

  10. Stef says:

    HAPPY NEW YEAR ya’ all.
hope u had a good time if u did let’s keep this tonight.
CB and DM please Mr. Wenger, we all know AW will stay @ Arsenal until he pleases only we as supporters can pressure him to add players to the team.

  11. Steve Palmer says:

Morning rico hope its another great year for you and HH
I do hope we have 8 changes today i have started getting used to it now

  12. Steve Palmer says:

If we had got fined for eight changes, would we get fined again if we changed back to the original team

  13. rico says:

Hi Stef, three are a must again today, but aren’t they always 😉

Steve, 8 changes would do me too 🙂

Erick, he would be a great addition, thats for sure i just can’t see any truth in the story, sadly 🙁

  14. kelsey says:

Happy New Year to you all at HH

Sorry Steve Palmer that I didn’t get back to you yesterday, but as I thought we are from the same generation more or less.

I am surprised no one has picked up on the confirmed bid by Fulaham for Bentner at 5.5 million, but Arsenal say thet want 6.5.Either way the boss must be prepared to let him go,and I have a feeling it is not about ability on the pitch but outside influences.

  15. kelsey says:

I still maintain we threw 2 points away at Wigan and to me we missed Song more than anyone.
Wenger has this knack to lose the momentum as quckly as he has got it back, and if results go the way they should we will be playing catch up by the time we start at Brum.

  16. Steve Palmer says:

    Sorry Kelsey,
Just singed back in, whats your view of the Bentner offer, i think if Wenger has turned that offer down we are not getting any help up front in the transfer market, not sure about the Eboue extension surly somebodys got to be unloaded unless he’s sticking with what we have

  17. Red Arse says:

    Steve,

You have answered your own question.

He is sticking with what we have (minus Almunia and Vela, I guess).

  18. Stef says:

Good news we will sell Almunia as it seems if somebody wants him.
Just 2 or 3 good defensive players and the title is our for the taking.

  19. Red Arse says:

Eureka, I have had an Archimedes moment!

The EPL is decided on the basis of “who are the luckiest b*stards?” Answer = Manure!

Give them the bloody title now! 🙁

  20. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

I know you have discussed a replacement for Pat Rice. But, Arsene has stated he wants him to stay, blah, blah.

Now there’s a surprise, Arsene wants his mute sidekick to continue. Unbelievable!!

  21. Steve Palmer says:

Bentner staying, Eboue staying Pat Rice Staying Arshaven staying,No one coming in looks like top 4 again this year, some things never change but our profits look good

  22. Stef says:

    RA, u might be right.

How about a change of crest for example Angel with a revolver and a bloody sword, maybe the power of the good, will help us 😆 maybe a future project on a photoshop 🙂

  23. Stef says:

I didn’t zee it Rico changed to the city game. Tevez missed a penalty 😆

something to cheer u up Steve

  24. JonJon says:

merry new year everyone..to old and new friends..many blessings..

now with all the nicities out of the way lets get back to good ol fashion blog ding donging 😉

5.5 mil for bendtner is an insult..hes worth at least 10mil

minimum 7.5 with future sell on clauses in case he makes it big..only 22 got 50+ international caps and scores CL goals 5 million didnt even deserve a reply from wenger..

  25. JonJon says:

bad feelings again rico v brum..
depends what team wenger plays..but if its the same team as wigan cos hes resting players for citeh we’ll be another 2 points worse off before the citeh game even comes..

best team please mr wenger theyve had a rest and we got a draw so best team v brum and citeh..rest them again v leeds..

    simples..

  26. Stef says:

Tevez had another blunder 😆 he made my day!
Blackpool is on the attack they are still in the game only one nil.

  27. rico says:

yo jj, make it 7M and i’d sell him…

spot on kelsey, mancs grabbed a lucky win, we need to do the same….

  28. JonJon says:

    best team 😉

no excuses dropped points today is not wengers fault..only gripe could be momentum lost from wigan but fingers crossed for a good display..

the rest have all won we need to show our teeth today and keep hold of those shirt tails..

  29. Will says:

A full-blooded challenge by Roger Johnson on Cesc Fabregas leaves the Spaniard writhing in pain and earns him the first yellow card of the game. Johnson is wild, and high

    Nice.

  30. agirlagunner says:

Not really, Will. Robin’s wasted two really good chances. Game’s a little rough– as expected.

  31. Will says:

I am never confident and that says a lot about this team. We are a top 3 team playing a bottom 3 team and I am scared we will lose.

  32. JonJon says:

    its a scrap will..

truth be told it should be 4-2..

but with some luck and good defending and shit finishing weve kept it 1 nil

rvp and theo could have had hatricks

  33. Will says:

£27m and Melo and I would take him myself.

When we had Paddy, DB10 and Thierry, I was never scared with games like these.

  34. rico says:

rvp yes jj but theo, nah, two at the most 😉

seriously, we should be 6-1 up now and unless we make our chances count, they will get back and either grab a draw or, more likely, a win….

  35. kelsey says:

    anyone feel confident?

RVP and Cesc are not at thir best.

this game is crying out for chamakh.

best man for me is fab,and his throw outs are superb.

will djourou come out in the second half

  36. agirlagunner says:

Quite a number of goals there for us to have made. Shame, the final pass was missing. 🙂 Surprised about Chamakh’s omission.

Clichy has been good by the way. 😀

  37. JonJon says:

rvp also is the reason why we are winning..

dont start selling him as well.. 😉

    he’ll come good second half

johnson should have been off as well

  38. JonJon says:

will jd has been rock solid again and kos is better with jd..fabs not done bad they havent had any real good chances really its just the penalty that we got away with

    clichys doing well again agag

we just need to score again and weve been carving em open..we’ll get another just hop its early so we can kill em off

leave it late and its squeky bum time

    1-0 to the arsenal 😉

  39. Stef says:

JJ except the goal RVP he did nothing BTW it was a lucky goal so that’s he is better to be on the bench.
    I don’t know what’s wrong with him.

  40. Will says:

Ouch, forget handbags that was just plain nasty. In between the two incidents below, Lee Bowyer seemed to deliberately stamp on Bacary Sagna’s thigh. Referee Peter Walton missed it but the TV cameras didn’t… and Mr Bowyer might find that incident comes back to haunt him.

Bowyer is a snide little tosser ain’t he?

  41. JonJon says:

    see.. 😉

the scoreline was flattering them and robin was making it harder 🙂 but we got other players besides robin 😉

ok brum should have had a pen and robins freekick was lukcy but they should be down to 9

  42. JonJon says:

they making the refs job easier cos their dirty tactics has left him no option but to give us the decisions..

    bowyers a dirty little fucktard

  43. JonJon says:

and thats what you get you dirty bastards..

    og

    shame…

we are now the top scorers in the PL and weve scored 70times all comps?? you still reckon we need a new striker??

  44. agirlagunner says:

You do have a very colorful vocabulary, JJ. 😉

I don’t want Robin sold either. And Melo is not nearly as technical or naturally talented as Robin… plus he loses his head far too easily. He was a disaster at the WC, I remember. 🙂

  45. JonJon says:

    ref come on mate

    blatent assualt

fuck it come on song mate if the ref aint gonna help us then you defend your boys and kick brum into space..

dont mind taking a red for these fuckers

  46. JonJon says:

i thought melo was good at world cup but i wouldnt swap him for robin..

id take him cos hes perfect for these games 😉 but weve got the money to buy him cash if we wanted..

keep robin and buy melo.. 😉

  47. JonJon says:

i dont mind keeping the ball on the floor at corners when we 3 up and its 85mins..

thats how we close games out keep clean sheets 😉

  48. JonJon says:

    very concivincing

finally our squad is fit and weve got our proper first team together and good teams are getting smashed 3-0

just hope wenger picks em 😉

away to brum, clean sheet, three goals no injuries..

bring on citeh..SAME team arsene..pick the squad on merit not on what day the calender says…

  49. rico says:

well well, we did what the mancs couldn’t, if rvp had some kind of footballing brain tonight, we would have won 8-0 😉

    £27M, I’d still sell him…

  50. Will says:

A good win and even better, a clean sheet.

I wonder if MoTD will highlight Bowyer and all the other nasty tackles from Brum?

  51. rico says:

jj, he looks better than i feel, sore throat, horrid cough and i’m burning up….. needless to say, i’m off for the day all….

good day though, we did at st andrews what may haven’t been able to, now that’s revenge and i hope our crozillian was watching….

    catch you all tomorrow… i hope 🙁 🙁

Will, MOTD well never show anything like that, they hate us….

  52. Stef says:

should of been 10 nil, oh well maybe with citeh the boys(rvp) will be more efficient.
Credit to RVP for passing he did good in that department especially in the second half.

  53. JonJon says:

its like wenger said we all saw what happened in the game..
he didnt have to say much else hopefully the papers and the fa will take action.. 😉

we won 3 nil and got zero niggles..brum just made themselves look like tits out there..even my manu mate who is so anti arsenal its unreal said brum were dirty and he normally enjoys it wheh we get snapped..

  54. Will says:

Something has to be done about them but we will be seen as a team who don’t like the rough stuff and then it will get twisted to how our players play-acted and cheated etc etc

  55. Stef says:

The penalty will be all over the Media I doubt they say much about the dirty play and was with ref there were dozens fouls screaming at him to whistle tough tackles too.

BTW any1 noticed that the ball was barely visible in the opposite flank from the camera. I couldn’t follow the action and ‘director’ was dreadful.

  56. JonJon says:

thats why wenger kept his gob shut mate, hes been burned before complaining about tackles but that was bordering assualt…they were stamping and going in studs up in tackles

espn made a 5 min slot showing brum up for what they were..highlighting the bowyer and johnson incidents…even bringing up eduardo…

im hoping it snowballs and the media goes nuts on it for few days…
not only will it draw a conclusion from the fa but it will be a good distraction for the game v citeh..

  57. Will says:

I love the way the BBC make excuses for teams who are overly-physical (read brutal assaults) when they are done against The Arsenal.

The tackle that could have broken Fabregas’s leg was ok because the guy “went for the ball”

He went for the ball, he is not that type of player, his mum said he is a nice boy.

F*ck off, it is time for it not to be ok to try and kick The Arsenal out of a game.

  58. JonJon says:

i watched motd, for first time in ages just to see what they would say,

will ,what shitfaces they are on there..
theres is a reason i dont watch that show cos its full of fucktards..

    i prefer footy first 😉
