Gustavo deal agreed? Rooney or Suarez? Vote for your choice…..

Morning all,

Just a bit of fun today.

If you were the manager of Arsenal and you had the money as Arsene has, who would go all out to sign before this transfer window closes?

I am of course, only talking about a striker, we all know we need a few others too.

In the red corner, we have Luis Suarez, a beast of a striker, literally. He displays many naughty sides to his character on the pitch and his recent push for a move shows he’s got a bit of a naughty streak off the pitch too. Some might say that his current club should just respect his wishes to leave, after all, we know very well that that sometimes happens. Of course it hurts but footballers respecting their contracts went out the window the day Anelka sulked if not before and how many years ago was that?

Then, in the other red corner, we have Wayne Rooney. What’s to be said about him. He’s a cheat as we all witnessed when we were on 49 and going strong, he’s feisty and likes give the television cameras the ‘f’ word when it suits and of course, he’s played the ‘I want to leave Manchester United’ card before, but that all appears to have been about money. It worked as he soon got a pay rise. There is plenty more I could say, but that would mean getting personal and that’s not always nice is it. I know I look in the mirror and wish…. I suspect he does too as I suspect many of you out there in the world of Arsenal fans.

The one thing Wayne Rooney has on his side is he’s English, the England fans love him, the FA love him and the football pundits love him. Good old Wayne they say, England rely on him, just like they used to David Beckham…..

What they both have in common is goals. They can score for fun on most days. Feed them a chance and they will often bury it before most other strikers have even thought about what to do with it.

In a perfect world, we’d wake up on September 1st to the news that we’d signed both, with Arsene Wenger explaining that the delay was purely about saving a months salary on both players which would I guess be somewhere around £1.5 million – understandable delay I’d say but yes I know, that isn’t going to happen….

So come on, who would you prefer us to sign, you can only pick one!

Maybe Arsene Wenger will make all his signings on the 1st of September, after all, if four new players were given a £100,000 a week salary, how much would he have saved by leaving it two months…….

Probably as much as a new squad player would cost…

Thank goodness the transfer window doesn’t shut until the 2nd of September eh…..

Talking of signings, all sorts of stories are doing the rounds suggesting that we have agreed a deal to sign Luiz Gustavo from Bayern Munich. I believe this originated from Twitter, was repeated by The Metro and this morning all the Sunday newspapers have added their spin on the story. Something like that order anyway..

Even though we beat Man City 3-1 yesterday, Arsene Wenger has admitted our squad is a bit thin:

I think what is important is the strength of the squad. Today is one game. We want to play 55 games and we are maybe a bit thin squad-wise to go through a whole season.

Really, well I’d never have guessed after all the players we have cleared out!

I didn’t see the game, just the goals and what good ones they were too.

Less than a week before the Premier League kicks off again…

Worried?

Have a good day all……

  1. ozgunner says:

Afternoon all from Perth WA. Three good goals yesterday. I see i was one of the few that voted for Rooney over Suarez. I actually think we really messed up with Higuain and will get neither of these targets. Gustavo i can see happening, bit part player now at Bayern, no one appears that interested, right up Wengers street?

  2. double98 says:

Wayne Rooney has committed crimes against arsenal.
Suarez has committed crimes against humanity.

So Suarez has a far shorter road to redemption

  3. Scott from Oz says:

    Either will do.
    Rooney first choice, imo.
    Morning all.
Hiya Oz…..good to have you back buddy.
Hope all is on the up for you mate.

  4. Ric The Gooner says:

I would prefer neither, tbh. Lets bring in somebody that the Arsenal fans, all of them can live and revere straight away (I don’t believe neither represent that). Someone like Jackson Martinez, Hulk or lewandowski. Add one of those to Luis Gustavo, Williams or Ginter and one or two squad players, then the squad ain’t looking to bad.

  5. craszygunner says:

Suarez for £50m no thanks….the only reason we’re still in the running is because there is no one else out there…and as long as Luis Suarez does not apologise (probably not likely to since he’s engineering a move away)…Brenda has shot himself on the foot again…you can’t leave him out of the squad because you have no chance in hell of making the CL without him…if you won’t make the CL then all the aggro with trying to keep him isn’t worth it..

Plays right in to AFC’s hands this one I tell ya….I will say AFC hold firm with the £40m offer unless someone else comes in for him…we are in the driver seat…LFC just don’t realise it yet..

  6. ozgunner says:

Hiya cobber, yeah getting there mate. I agree either would be good, what i don’t believe is Wenger and his team are good enough to get either. We are a selling club now not a buying one in the eyes of the superstars.

  7. rico says:

I’d prefer Wooney too Oz/Scott but wouldn’t be too sad if we get Suarez 😉

Chelsea are interested in Gustavo, as our a couple of other clubs…

  8. The BearMan says:

Arsenal signing Gustavo would be welcomed news, but knowing Arsene he will be milling over a cheaper option until someone else snaps him up.

No need to work one’s self up, until you see the man in the strip posing at the club. Listening to Sky Sports his name never came up, linked to Arsenal.

Under Wenger, top players appear to look the other way!

  9. rico says:

Arsenal and Liverpool are set to battle it out for Watford’s teenage sensation Ogo Obi.

The 15-year-old shot to prominence during the prestigious Milk Cup last week where he finished as the competition’s top-scorer with 10 goals in five games.

Obi led the Hertfordshire-based team to third-place finish after a resounding 6-2 win over Liverpool in which he bagged a brilliant brace.

Watford, however, are desperate to keep hold of their starlet and have offered him a scholarship with a one-year professional contract to ward off interest from potential suitors. Liverpool have adopted a “best of British” policy over the last few years, which has seen them swell their academy with some of the country’s finest young talent.

Teenagers such as Raheem Sterling, Jordan Ibe and Lloyd Jones have all been bought for large sums in recent times and the Anfield outfit have now earmarked the Watford teen as their next target.

Obi is an avid Arsenal fan, which has given the Gunners hope of beating their Premier League rivals to his signature, but the lack of English players coming through their academy does concern his camp.

  10. Scott from Oz says:

Oz, they can get him if they truly want him.
It only comes down to the dollars.
Liverpool will sell for sure, but are playing chicken with us.
They need to sell him asap so they can replace him, and that is why they keep telling the world it is too late to replace him, he is not for sale at any price, but then he must be worth what Bale is lol
If they get stuck with him, they will have a guy running around at half pace alongside players who know he thinks are no good, with fans who detest him.
They have everything to lose, imo.

  11. ktr7 says:

Good read rico.I prefer Suarez to be honest.I liked Rooney when he was younger when he seemed to be confident to score from anywhere.nowadays i feel he is washed up a bit.

Also Wenger was asked about Gustavo he said “there is nothing concrete-at the moment”…so that tells me we are definitely in for him.when asked about suarez he said he is still hopeful and “Will do it the right way”…he seems confident on a deal.

  12. ozgunner says:

Never mind Bendtner could be our new signing, given how Wenger raved about him, you never know. In fact a couple of injuries and he might not have a choice ha! Surely Rooney has to look at the depth of talent at Chelsea and wonder? They have three good strikers and a truck load of hole players now.

  13. rico says:

Brenda reckon he’ll settle down, apologise and be happy staying Scott…

Thanks Kt, but AW also said he will respect Liverpools decision not to sell…

  14. ozgunner says:

Scott – i tend to agree with you, what i don’t believe is our lot have the ability to get this done to be perfectly honest. We missed far to many targets to convince me a key signing like this is doable. We’ll see.

  15. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all Nice one Rico.
David luiz Luiz Suarez Luiz Gastavo Luiz luiz luiz any one of these would have done me but a whine er Wayne he aint so bad anybody please Arsene. 🙂

  16. JB212 says:

I don’t understand why the only 2 strikers being bandwagon ed around by all Arsenal supporters are the two most controversial strikers in the Prem right now ?

    Lewandowski anyone ?
Missed out on cheaper alternatives in Higuain and Gomez ?

I’d prefer Rooney and Suarez to stay at their clubs and disrupt the teams whilst we buy a trouble free striker without a bad reputation.

Lewandowski could probably be available for £30 million and surely his wages won’t be on the same scale as these two trouble makers ?

Rooney would come to Arsenal demanding to be put on a mantle piece like van Persie wass and that is a negative thing in my idea. We are currently a TEAM and not carried by one player, which ALWAYS brings the best out of a squad.

  17. Changkuoth puok says:

Arsenal should be more serious on buying Luiz Suarez And Gustavo because the gunners need a good finisher and a good central midfielder like A. Song

  18. ozgunner says:

Rico, the liverpool owner is on record saying he called the club and told them they were dreaming and yet we still comment often on him. Even the players are throwing in their two bobs worth. Someone will end up with egg on their face here. Scott’s point was solid, how do they keep someone who is completely off them now. I still say one call from one of the big guns like Madrid and Wenger is nowhere. We’ll see.

  19. rico says:

JB212, because they are the ones always in the media. Not sure if you have read the comments on here before, but most would love us to go and get Lewandowski…

  20. rico says:

    Welcome Cork and thanks Sp

I agree that it will be tough, near on impossible for both Manure and Liverpool to keep unsettled players but it doesn’t mean they will sell to us…

Rooney might be easier to get as Moyes won’t think we are such a threat no doubt, but I can see Brenda selling to RM for less than what we have offered already…

  21. ktr7 says:

I agree with Scott.Liverpool want us to raise our bid to £50 mil and they will deal.they know the player is unsettled and as much as they’ll loathe selling to us they would be better off taking the cash and purchasing someone that will give his all to the team.the fans have already turned on him, so too have the players.at the moment with suarez in his current state he isn’t going to help them in the season.

Also Rodgers has shown naivety by speaking to the media all the time about this issue.you cannot go out to the media and say suarez needs to apologise for him to train with the team again.such stuff is better kept in doors and will backfire on him.

Suarez sees no need to apologise.he feels the club broke a promise they made him.Torres said the same thing when he left; Reina was appalled by the way they treated him after all the years of service.they are building a bad reputation among players.even Cavani has spoken out that he knew of the agreement with pool/suarez.whether it was vocal or a gentleman’s agreement we don’t know but its clear something was agreed upon if pool failed to qualify for the CL.it would be madness to keep suarez now.

  22. tsgh says:

    Morning fellow HHers,

Good read Rico, I like the voting system; but I do not vote because my vote never makes any difference.lol

Did Ric mention Hulk? 😀 No pun intended but Hulk is absolutely overrated.

Hmm, I wonder why Rafa has bid for Matri if Hig was so good?

Gustavo 5th choice at RM? Hmmm

It’s funny how the fans who claim AW sign mediocre players always suggest mediocre players….

  23. ozgunner says:

ktr – I saw an article the other day blaming the agent, this might be an olive branch out of the mess for Suarez?

  24. ktr7 says:

Rico its a game of poker and Wenger knows it.So long as Suarez wants to leave Wenger will feel we have a chance.Pool did the same thing with Torres and even put a ‘Not for sale’ statement on their website 3 days before the end of the transfer window…we know how that ended up.I think pool are trying to save face now to ensure when they do sell him eventually it was suarez whi really forced their hand.they are building him up to take the fall as the ultimate villain in this mess.

  25. tsgh says:

Everton Athletic FC have backed themselves in a corner imo. Their 1-0 results in the ‘Dublin decider’ yesterday will make Brenda more determined to keep LS07 as his contract probably stipulates that he has to get the club into CL by the end of his second season.

  26. ktr7 says:

It may be an olive branch oz but that doesn’t change the fact that suarez wants out.so long as that doesn’t change we have a chance.the way we are feeling right now is probably how MUFC fans were feeling last year with Rvp.

  27. cork gunner says:

Thanks for welcome rico.one week to prem start and getting a bit anxious, can anyone see us bringing in the 4 or 5 players needed to challange for honours

  28. rico says:

Thanks Ts, but seriously, just because you think a player is mediocre, others may not…

After all, you rate Ramsey highly…. 😉

  29. ktr7 says:

if he scored a few goals for their team.” –
    Harry Redknapp on Liverpool fans.

  30. rico says:

I saw that too Oz, dump it all on the agents eh 😉

Time will tell Kt, I just hope that we are not relying on getting Suarez and it doesn’t work out and we get left with no additional striker. That would be a very very big mistake….

emma, he’s heading into his last year of contract isn’t he?

  31. ktr7 says:

Quote of the Day: “The Liverpool coach can talk about loyalty & disrespect,
but maybe he needs to look up what it means.” – Cavani

  32. ktr7 says:

We’ll see rico but it seems we are confident of this happening.even the players seem to be expecting it to happen.however,if it falls through am sure we have a back up option.

  33. emma says:

oz – I believe we did b/s a couple of weeks ago arsene said he is off to Bayern. I think there is a gentleman agreement b/w Bayern and Lewandoski.

  34. tsgh says:

Ha ha ha Rico.. I indeed rate Ramsey that highly… Oz has questioned my sanity a few times on my assertions on Ramsey but I guess I was right after all. At the moment Ramsey will get games in any top team in Europe imho…

A lot of players are overrated; most fans choose to believe stats when they want and dismiss it when they choose. 😉

Scott was always noble and backed the player because he wore our shirt..

  35. ktr7 says:

The difference between Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers is this. Fabregas and
RvP absolutely ripped Wengers heart apart, a man who had done much for their
careers. Yet Wenger never spoke ill about them. Viera, stewart robson etc have
often critised AFC, yet you never see Wenger responding. That my friends is class
and Dignity. It shows in his actions and his reactions. Unlike rodgers who typically
rather cry himself hoarse over words like respect and loyalty while himself showing
no evidence of the same. RvP hugged wenger in front of all at OT and there is still
talk of fabregas returning. Can you see that with Suarez or even Reina? Rodgers
has a LOT to learn. He should be humble and let his work speak for himself than
say big words every time a mike is put in front of him. Watch and learn Mr
    Rodgers.

  36. ktr7 says:

This is the best i have on Gustavo from a Bayern Munich fan’s perspecive…

His offensive abilities are somewhat limited, although I think if he was given more
creative freedom he would perform better offensively but with weaker defensive
results. He is a very safe passer, rarely trying to play an incisive ball through the
lines to an attacker. He’s the perfect outlet midfielder in the sense that he can win
the ball, and then adeptly give it to someone more comfortable on the ball (Arteta
most likely recipient). I think he is somewhat clumsy on the ball, where if you were
to press him he wouldn’t be decisive enough to break through the initial press and
he would most likely lose the ball. However it’s a good thing that no team in the
Premier League imposes a gegenpressing system. I think he has a pretty decent
shot. He took 13 attempts on goal last season, 5 were on target, and 4 of them
were goals. Many of them were long-range goals as well. He can control the ball
quite well, but not well under pressure. He will relieve a lot of stress and work from
your defense as well as Arteta.

  37. tsgh says:

Our midfield is like Juve’s and we just need a fit and younger 3rd player to make us even better.

    Juves Arsenal

    Andrea Pirlo Mikel Arteta
    Claudio Marchisio Rosicky
    Vidal Ramsey
    Podga JW/Ox/Diaby/FrimpongPerez or Frimp

What do you think Kt and Emma?

  38. tsgh says:

Another doomer in Alan Smith… a mediocre pundit who has to jump on the band wagon to get on the tabloids pages…

I bet he would rather we won the FA cup and Tin cup and finish 6th…

At least he won us the title in ’89 😉

  39. rico says:

emma – both Inter Milan and Chelsea are interested in signing him so he can’t be bad surely. He’s agreed terms with Wolfsburg according to reports but the price is not enough for BM…

Just one fan though Kt 😉

  40. G-G says:

I voted neither as I strongly believe that both strikers have really bad attitudes and they could well end up doing the same current ‘tricks’ at our Club once they get bored
I still CANNOT believe we didn’t try harder for Higuain … A player I reckon was probably our best option and, more importantly, someone who could have trained with th squad and be 100% ready for the beginning of the season and the CL qualifier.

With that being said , I Would be happy to see AW go for a realistic target for the striker role. There are still quality players available out there. Jackson Martinez seems a good player with CL experience and he’s available. I say go for him !!!

  41. G_G says:

  42. tsgh says:

Morning Syg, howdy? I like Gourchuff… he may kill JW as the no.10 though… 😉

Rico, WATH and I have been discussing Gustavo or Alaba on here before most people saw him in the Confed cup…

  43. tsgh says:

If saying Smith’s comments which are unnecessary especially coming from a true AFC fan is deemed dismissive then I give up too…

If you read the comments in that article most reasonable fans think it is bs too…

  44. ktr7 says:

ts if diaby had been fit we would only have needed 1 midfielder in maybe Gustavo but as its stands i feel we need yet another one.bar ramsey we have no other able replacement to play box to box midfielder as well or even better than ramsey.this is why i would’ve really wanted Bender but it seems Leverkusen will not sell.

If Gustavo comes i can see us ditching the double pivot for some games and play him as the sole DM with Ramsey-jack playing in front of him in a 4-3-3 similar to how we played a few years back when we beat MUFC at home with Song playing as DM.it would at least give us a variety of tactics to play around with depending on the opposition.

rico it may only be 1 fan but thats exactly what i think of Gustavo since i’ve watched him enough.

  45. rico says:

Syg, I think Gourcuff would have been with us a long time ago if AW wanted him… Just my view of course…

And Ts, not being funny, but does that make any difference?

  46. emma says:

rico – I thought he was outstanding during the confederations cup for Brazil. He played every single mins. of all the matches. He is quick, disciplined and a good tackler. I remember he gave Ronaldo a torrid time when they meant in the CL semi-final 2 seasons ago.

ts – From your list I think Frimp is on borrowed time. His past injuries has not helped him to become the player he should have been. He will go out on loan again for one last time and if it doesn’t work out will be sold.

  47. rico says:

But he’s right about having plenty of money and still not signing players and a number of fans of whom comments I have read reckon he may just walk off into the sunset after this season…

If we don’t get the right players, fans will be on his back sooner rather than later. Well, other than those who believe that he can do no wrong…

And that number is fading day by day….

  48. emma says:

JW10 is coming to full fitness. Tactically disciplined yesterday, covers when Ramsey pushed forward which we all have being yearning to see

  49. rico says:

I only saw bits emma, which is why I don’t feel I can say too much about him. But if so many clubs want to sign him, he can’t be bad 😉

Arteta is going to struggle playing through an entire season. imho of course…

  50. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Morning Ginge.

  52. ktr7 says:

I agree with emma.Gustavo gave Ronaldo a torrid time at the Bernabeu in the CL semis in 11/12 season.he dispossessed him 7 times in that match.he is a very tough tackler.

  53. Scott from Oz says:

Gourcuff, Gustavo, Suarez or Rooney or Lewandowski or Torres……..any lf these will add depth to our squad, as well as class.
Last nights performance showed what a great team can do as opposed to a team of greats.
We just need a second great team to give everything a shake this season.
Keep the faith guys…..there is over 20 days left and Citeh showed that even spending a fortune early in the window guarantees nothing except a large wage bill.
    Wenger will get players in.
Whether they are the players you and i want is a different question, but there is no doubt in my mind that selling off the deadwood gives us a lot of extra cash to splash, and it will be utilised.
    Noble hey Ginge?
    I am extremely appreciative mate.

  54. Gonerjoe says:

Asked this last night I was wondering why dippers fans are so angry at Arsenal for their bid for Suarez. As I remember it I was angry at RVP rather than Manu last season.

  55. Scott from Oz says:

KT, that link didn’t work, but at the same time the Faecbook pic. Came through…..Nasri copping a backhander is pure gold hahaha

  56. Henny says:

Morning all, enjoyed reading the post. I choose Suarez for his trickery and he looks like a man who is improving while I feel Rooney is on the down. Brenda has got things all wrong I feel if I was Suarez I would b peed off asking me to apologise after you went back on your word. I feel Brenda is showing the world that he is truly not a top class manager, and I still don’t get this rubbish about us being the rivals in my opinion the talent they have brought that’s not make up the 14 points difference from last season and plus their preparations has been thrown into Chaos with this saga while we are still getting on with our per season work

  57. Scott from Oz says:

    GJ, same here.
I did not blame Yanited at all, and i certainly did not blame Arsenal.
That little bastard inside, however 🙂

  58. rico says:

As was I Gjoe, angry that the player could walk out on a club that had treated him so well over the years..

Loyalty to any club is long gone it seems. I never imagined for one minute that Ashley Cole would move to Chelsea either, players who represent the club they supported for life don’t often do that..

  59. emma says:

Good pt. Ktr at 11:13 “If Gustavo comes i can see us ditching the double pivot for some games and play him as the sole DM with Ramsey-jack playing in front of him in a 4-3-3 “

  60. ozgunner says:

I think Gustavo is aright, nothing special but OK probably worth 14m no more, as i said a typical signing by Arsenal

  61. rico says:

Welcome GG, we did re Higuain, Real just put the price up and I don’t blame Arsenal/AW for walking away…

Henny, could just be that Rooney is fed up, will be interesting to see if he plays for England, and how he plays. That will possibly show if he’s lost his touch or not…

  62. Scott from Oz says:

Oz, it all depends how he is for us though.
He might be exactly what we want.
    Let’s hope so.
Rico, loyalty is still around, it is just getting more scarce.
I am not just saying it, but i reckon Aaron will be a Gunner for as long as we want him.

  63. cork gunner says:

think wenger will be licking his lips after rogers publicly demanded apoligy from saurez when saurez already feels betrayed.schoolboy error by rogers going public.he might aswell pack his bags lol

  64. ozgunner says:

Agree with all the Rodgers comments, over his head as he’ll find out come season end. In fairness he is fuelled on by the owners somewhat.

  65. Scott from Oz says:

The most ridiculous thing was criticising Arsenals part in the situation, especially as anyone with any brains knows the club acts very respectfully during negotiations.

  66. emma says:

Rogers is handling the suarez issue worngly. Rogers should have said the issue is been dealt internally and no further comment on suarez. Instead he keeps opening his gutters whenever suarez question is posted. He should have learnt from arsene how he dealt with the pursering issues. I bet Suarez is going to come out firing during the interlude when he joins his national team

  67. Henny says:

I do think we need some quality players to add to the depth of the squad and that killer striker, watching the game yesterday I was wandering if maybe we should try to play podolski in the whole, I saw in alot playing between the lines instead of the main target man position, what does the house think?

  68. ozgunner says:

giving our records of loosing quality and all of Wengers comments in the past about players going nowhere – are they that different? Just saying…

  69. rico says:

I’m surprised by the way Brenda is dealing with all of this, he should have said nothing…. Or at least divert it away from him…

  70. Henny says:

I hope Suarez does come firing, I agree with you Emma IDE should of kept it as quiet as possible so not to look like the fool he is, even AVB is dealing with the bale situation better

  71. ozgunner says:

he’s the mouth piece of the owners i think Rico – they are telling the world, as did Wenger, no one is taking their star player – trouble is player has other ideas as did RVP and others on the list before him

  72. emma says:

Henny – He drops into the hole alot instead of being the main target man. Problem is there are better players that could play in the hole(rosicky, wilshere etc).
Don’t know why he doesn’t shoot despite having a ferocious shot

  73. rico says:

Scott – I think Potter made a good point the other day. It’s possibly all about the £1.

Henny, I can’t comment as I didn’t see the game yesterday, and I guess it depends on who we sign. I have a feeling he’ll be a squad/domestic cup player…

  74. Gonerjoe says:

Seems to me that Rodgers and Henry are saying one thing and doing another. If what Suarez says is true and he was told he could leave Liverpool if they did not make the CL he would never give Liverpool an apoligy if it was hell would freeze over.

  75. Karl says:

Rooney or Suarez, some people live in the fantasy world created by Arsene Wenger., reality is very different my friend.

  76. cork gunner says:

for sure, it just gives saurez an excuse to let rip on rogers making his position at the club completly untenable.i dont know if we,ll sign luis but cant see him being a liverpool player this season

  77. ozgunner says:

I tend to think the ‘word’ might have been real. Trouble is, if it ain’t in writing it ain’t worth nuts and if we have gambled our marbles on an unwritten word, we deserve to be turned over. These guys are supposed to be business men ffs

  78. Henny says:

Emma, I think he enjoys the passing game much when he has a chance to shoot he mostly passes. It’s hard with podolski because I think he is a great player I want him to properly shine, and out on the left it he can’t beat players

  79. Uzoma timothy says:

Both are quality players but rooney is more of a winner, character, more advanced in european competitions with overall better GPGR and better conversion rate and can be cheaper..As England national team untouchable player, his presence in arsenal squad will earn arsenal some deference from the FA

  80. emma says:

henny – Sometimes i just want him to let the canon lose outside the 18 yard cause he’s got that ferocious shot on him. But tends to make the wrong choice passing instead of shooting

  81. Henny says:

Maybe when the season starts he will be a bit more ruthless when he gets into those areas. What did you think of Perez?, I thought he did well composed on the ball
    And keeps it moving well,

  82. devilgunner says:

Good Afternoon Lady, Sir, Gentlemen and Ladies.

I do not think I need to say who I voted for.

    S.H.R.E.K. all the way.

    Good article Rico.

But why no mention of Perez?

I did not see the game but saw highlights.

But from the highlights I saw of him he looked good. A younger version of Arteta. Good tough tackler and a good passer

Watch this video of him against Shitty. A few minutes in and he earned a yellow card for a tough tackle. Did that stop him tackling again? It did not.

That is no earthquake my lads. That is a DRAGON.

I think he will be given a contract. And bdw……..he holds his position.

  83. tsgh says:

    Hi Dev,

I totally agree with you on Perez, he does what a midfielder should be doing in his mid 20’s i.e dribbling only as a last result.

Against Turkey in the u-20 tournament he never allowed the flashiness of Quintero he change his game. He kept it simple in the middle of the park. You can also see the positional awareness of Seb in this clip of Quintero..

  84. S2S says:

    Hey all,

I had a dream this morning where we decided to buy 3 Luizs. One from Bayern who I think is very costly, one from Pool and one from Chelsea for 35M. Dreams, eh!!

Btw, for Rooney and Suarez I voted none. Tbh I love watching Suarez, he makes you feel like getting up and try dribbling but I don’t know if I would want him on my team. For Rooney, it will always be no.

Oh btw, DG I read an interesting comment on Perez where some one said ‘I know a nutter when I see one, and he looks a tough one. If we sign him be sure he’d receive 10+ yellows and 2+ reds but he he looks good for that.’

Oh and give Sagna, Rosicky and Seb guitars and they’ll form a rock band. lol.

  85. devilgunner says:

If we sign Gustavo then I think that there will only be one position for him at AFC……….centreback.

  86. S2S says:

Btw, any one watched the World Badminton C’ship final between Lin dan and Lee? If not should see that both of those players are just epic and legend of the generations and if anyone likes it should watch Olympic final between them, it was an epic epic game.

  87. tsgh says:

Moyes just showed Brenda what the difference between a manager and a head coach turned manager is….

Moyes navigated round the Wooney question with cunningness Rednose will be proud of…

  88. tsgh says:

HAs anyone taken a tour on $hitty’s blogs… the fans are really fuming. They think Manuel is a downgrade on Mankini…

  89. S2S says:

If James McCarthy plays well today, I say we get him. He and Seb Perez both can fight it out to be Mikel’s understudy. And James can play as a B2B MF if need be.

  90. stevepalmer1 says:

Has anybody thought about what all the things going on with other teams and the little squables going on and then looked how calm Wenger is and how well the team is performing. City have spent millions and aquired a few players and still they cant beat an under strength Arsenal while United are struggling with Wayne the pain and trying to get a result. Moyes wants Bains Felainey and whoever else and even being premier champions they still have there troubles. Every time i see Wenger he seems to be smileing and when asked he stirs the pot. Arsenal players all talking the right way when interviewed and we still have the supposedly 70 mill to spend. tell you what it seems to run a lot smoother when you do your business late doesn’t it how many degree’s has Wenger got.

  91. tsgh says:

hi Sp1 you make a good point.

AW predicted the economical situation in football over 10 years ago before any clubin football went ‘pop’.

In my view, AW always has the best intention of the club at heart in all decision he makes. He is frustrating but there is no doubt AW can sign a whole team in a week without thinking as he knows about football than most people..

The man has also made and influenced more careers than most other managers so

  92. Henny says:

What even more amazing is how the media don’t jump on that Ts, if it was one of our players he would of been destroyed by the media and these so called expert pundits

  93. tsgh says:

Very true Henny… then again I guess it would have been different for him if he had chosen to play for Ghana instead of England 😉

  94. tsgh says:

    I forgot about that actually…

Is it not amazing how De Gea plays for Spains u-21 and Man U but he is deemed experienced enough whilst the media have managed to influence some fans into believing our goalie situation is unforgivable…

Then again Man U win trophies whilst we don’t so our team must be bad… 😉

  95. Henny says:

Lol I guess so. It’s sad the way our team gets attacked for every angle I guess fear makes people act and say stupid things. I believe we’re feared for the fact that we are a sleeping giant and once we properly awake it’s all over and people have to start eating their words, to stop this from happening they attack our players, fans, manager and club. They have even divided the fans

  96. S2S says:

Does that mean he is better than or in some what same bracket as Suarez? If so I’d love to have him since i voted for neither of the above 2.

  97. tsgh says:

s2sw, as yuou maybe aware, this is his first season in Europe but Porto have a very successful record of getting cheap gems from South America and selling them on… Falcao etc

  98. tsgh says:

Typical… Owen Coyle has made Wigan look like pretenders… even the direct football is not working for them.

  99. tsgh says:

Another proof Le Coq should never have considered being a CDM at Arsenal. On all his loans he has played as a RB or RW…

Francis Coquelin, played the first half on the right wing before being withdrawn as Freiburg suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in their opening Bundesliga fixture.

Sky Sources: Liverpool striker Luis Suarez
has no plans to apologise to the club and
his team-mates. More now on #SSN

    your move now Rodgers…

  102. Gunnerdna says:

Ts why AW don’t just pay 25 mil for Lars bender if he his the 1st choice other than buying LG for 18mil? LG is going to take MA08 game, that’s the captain and v/captain on the bench. Lol

  103. ktr7 says:

Rodgers has behaved like an amateur throughout and as i said earlier calling out suarez to apologize was going to blow up in his face…he has refused to apologize.there is no way they can keep him now because it will be very stupid of them.take the cash and rebuild.

  104. ktr7 says:

GDNA Leverkusen have refused to even negotiate and are not desperate for cash.Bayern tried to get him last summer before deciding to go for Martinez. They have already lost Carvajal to madrid and Schurrle to chelsea.they will not want to lose another first team player.

  105. tsgh says:

It has nothing to do with the price Dna, Leverkussen did not need the money after the Schurlle moved to Chelsea. Even Bayern failed with a bid so…

Lars is not as purely defensive as LG20.

LG was mainly used last season against big opponents to neutralise threats. Gustavo can play LB, CB and CDM so maybe that is the key here…

  106. Gonerjoe says:

No south American will apologize if he believes he’s in the right it’s about saving face and why should he I wouldn’t.

  107. ktr7 says:

BR can decide not play Suarez all season.
But if Suarez doesnt play 10% of their
games,he can tear up his contract & walk
    away free #asset ?

  108. tsgh says:

kt- we can’t really blame Brenda though… he is just doing what the yanks are telling him to do. But in tune with practices that can be attributed to Yank businessmen into sports franchise, they will do what is best for themselves and not what the fans want. 😛

Brenda should call and ask AW about similar experiences 😉

£40M plus (cash up front) is bigger in the short term to medium term than the £25M they will get for appearing in the CL which is not even a given with or without LS07 imho…

The stadium development comes to mind.

  109. ktr7 says:

I think we can now see why Wenger sounds so confident and suarez.it also explains why our players are expectimg him to arrive.

  110. tsgh says:

Before this weeks revelation Brenda was telling the media LS07 is very willing in training and all… it was a lie all along it appears so…

  111. Gunnerdna says:

The real Arsenal playing against Man U on FSC, community shield. Berkamp, Henry, Gilberto, Cole, Cesc, Lauren on show

  112. ktr7 says:

Whoever it is ts Rodgers is the mouthpiece and will get blamed.even Moyes has behaved much much better with Rooney.player conflicts are better dealt with indoors not in public.pool are running out of options now.

  113. tsgh says:

I think things will quickly change when we play the first CL qualifier and hopefully win with more than a 3 goal advantage

  114. ktr7 says:

Ts Rafinha looked very promising a while back but not now.he used to be exciting going forward albeit suspect defensively but now he doesn’t even have that.he is a bench player at best not a starter.

  115. rico says:

Ajax have confirmed an offer has been received for Toby Alderweireld amid reports the Belgian defender is again wanted in the Premier League.

Alderweireld rejected a move to Norwich City earlier in the summer after failing to agree personal terms regarding a switch to Carrow Road.

Liverpool have long been linked with a bid for the 24-year-old, while reports on Sunday claimed that Tottenham have joined the chase for Alderweireld.

The speculation suggested that Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas wants to sign Alderweireld and his Ajax team-mate Christian Eriksen in a £15million double deal.

However, according to the Dutch media, Russian outfit Spartak Moscow are the club to have submitted the latest offer for the defender.

Ajax’s director of football Marc Overmars declined to name the interested party, but confirmed talks are ongoing.

“We have received an offer,” Overmars told De Telegraaf. “We won’t give any names as we are still in talks.

“But, just like with Norwich City earlier, I expect we can work out a deal with this club.”

Alderweireld has one year left on his contract at Ajax and has previously expressed a desire to move to either the Premier League or Bundesliga.

  116. rico says:

If Gustavo is like Edu, then I truly hope we sign him. I loved Edu. Under related and under played whilst with us imho

  117. ktr7 says:

GDNA I wouldn’t say he is like Gilberto exactly.he is a more aggressive version of him not an invincible wall like Gilberto was.he is also faster with a very mean tackle on him.he is excellent at marking out marquee opponents; in 11/12 season at the Bernabeu CL semishe absolutely neutralised Ronaldo by dispossessing him 7 times in that match with some crunching challenges.

Going forward he is quite limited but he has an excellent shot on him.when aggressively pressed he is not the best and that why bayern went for martinez in addition to his limitations going forward.

he can be useful under the right conditions especially considering how the likes of messi/ibra/rooney have tormented us when we.meet them.

  118. tsgh says:

My other team BVb this weekend.

I still think we should have bought Aubameyang

Rico, Edu was the original sick note Abou inherited his genes from. The moment he had one good season he was gone. Because of injury he played on 50 games for Valencia in over 4 seasons. 11 in 2009-2010 in Brazil forcing him to retire.

I however agree Edu was a very very good player.

  119. tsgh says:

Reus and Aubameyang can be as deadly as Robben and Ribery this season.

I hope Theo and Suarez can eclipse those partnerships if we manage to get LS07.

  120. rico says:

Yes, I know his career after us was blighted with injury and an early retirement forced. Just thought when he was fit he wasn’t used enough which was the reason behind him leaving..

    Shame really..

  121. rico says:

That new Suarez story has no fabrication imho, it’s all ‘Sky Sports understands’…

I understand that Sky Sports talk a lot of poppycock 😉

  122. ktr7 says:

The main reason why Bayern shelled out for Martinez was that he could do the defending role just as well as Gustavo but was a lot better going forward even against pressing teams.Martinez is an ox and he could shrug off challenges to contribute in attack.he is also more incisive than Gustavo.

Against pressing teams like Dortmund Gustavo struggles with the pressing and as a result Bayern struggled advancing up the pitch with him in the side.this forced kroos to drop even deeper which isolated their forwards.with Martinez this was no longer an issue and was colossal for them last season in that role.

Bayern initially wanted Lars Bender before switching to Martinez after Leverkusen refused to sell.Bender would’ve been perfect for us especially alongside Ramsey.

  123. tsgh says:

If I may add to your comment kt, imo, LG20 is very immobile at the moment. He will never be able to play with MA08 against top sides just as he was poor with Bastian for BM last season.
Martinez is more mobile as a box to box or DM like the Benders, Ramsey and VIdal.. its the new way of playing where you try to win the ball in the opposition half.

Imho LG’s best seasons were 10/11 for 1899 Hoffenheim and 11/12 for BM, I just hope his latestperformances were more to do with recovering from injuries and playing in several positions than his form nose diving. As I said last summer if I was a football manager I would pay £20M plus for him but this time round unless as Dev said early he is our 4th choice CB and CDM he will be a very solid squad player…

  124. ktr7 says:

Rico its not quite difficult to see why suarez won’t apologize.he feels he has been wronged which has been backed up by Cavani.he is adamant pool promised him something and they have not kept their promise.

why would he apologize if he deels that way?…if i was in his shoes i wouldn’t either.also he desperately wants to leave and an apology will not help him achieve that.

furthermore this isn’t kindergaten where a teacher punishes a kid for eating his crayons by telling him to sit in the corner.Suarez is a grown man and doing that will just strengthen his resolve to leave.after all this i doubt suarez has even contemplated apologizing.

  125. rico says:

Kt, trust me, if I was in Suarez shoes and believed what he tells us that he believes to be true.

    I’d tell Brenda to take a hike……

He is in a no lose situation, he’s earning wages whatever and if the Dippers are too stupid to see that then they really are stupid….

Training on his own… How do the dippers get out of that I wonder….

  126. ktr7 says:

ts that duo can be something special.I’d really like Dortmund to push Bayern all the way.I was saddened by Gotze’s decision to leave since he and Reus were an absolute delight to watch last season.lets hope aubameyang and reus can form such a partnership.

If suarez comes he and theo can form a partnership similar to rvp/theo imo.

  127. tsgh says:

I doubt Juve’s interest was concrete with Luiz last year imho… if they had more than £20M to spend AW would have sold Judas to the Old Lady of Turin than to Rednose… me think.

Juve even could not afford the £20M for Llorente, they waited for him to become free this summer. Juve’s biggest signing in donkey years is Ogbonna. Conte is a true AW disciple, he likes them cheap or free, he is lucky the likes of AC and Inter are weaker because of finances.

  128. ktr7 says:

Rico i think pool will villify suarez as much as they can before taking the cash to save face.we are the only club in for him and if they sell it will be to us as much as they hate it.we were in the same sitiuation last summer with Rvp and we know how the story ends.if they keep him they gain nothing at all.they will cave in if suarez maintains his resolve to leave.

  129. tsgh says:

Ian Holloway- “I have lost count of the number of players we have been offered since we hit a £100 million jackpot with our play-off win over Watford. Many agents seem to believe that money belongs to them by right. Some approach you, claiming to have a mandate to work on behalf of players and the clubs that are selling them. In reality, most of the time, they have no agreement in place and are just chancing their arm.”

  130. ktr7 says:

Wenger must be waiting for Suarez to make his position at pool untenable;beyond salvation before making another tempting bid.pool will bite our arm off then.

  131. ktr7 says:

I guess you are right about suarez re:transfer request.however by now he may feel pool know he really wants out even without it.he wants an amicable solution but if they remain stubborn he’ll hand one in.

  132. rico says:

Players don’t want to submit transfer request because of the financial implications but I believe both Suarez and Rooney will be left with little option IF they are serious about wanting out.

    Suarez clearly wants out…

  133. GunnerDNA says:

Rico, if u listen to the podcast at youaremyarsenal.com the guy Geoff Arsenal said he spoke with someone at the club yesterday and they said Gustavo is a possibility..Geoff Arsenal got the most reliable afc news on twitter.

  134. rico says:

It all sounds/reads very interesting Scott. I think we all need to hear something concrete.

Gdna, many are possible, we need a little more than that now…

  135. GunnerDNA says:

    R. HonigsteinTo expand on Gustavo/Arsenal: feeling in Munich is that he’s off but earlier this evening, Rummenigge said LG hadn’t decided yet

  136. Scott from Oz says:

    This is our issue.
If we had already signed a Suarez or Rooney, Gustavo would be jumping at the chance to join.
One big name is all we need…….others will follow.

  137. rico says:

Spot on Scott, been saying similar all summer. We just need that one big signing and others would stand up and believe that we are a club truly on the up. Not just one who remains on the cusp and who players don’t want to risk joining…

  138. ktr7 says:

Hi scott.i really expect movement this coming week.i also agree on a big name will see others follow, its the domino effect.

  139. Scott from Oz says:

KT, I too believe we will get business done.
I really am not fussed on getting players in early to “bed them in” as Citeh showed the other night that a few weeks here and there mean very little.
I would like to see us get Suarez or Rooney done ASAP just to show where we stand, as Rico said.
Still, looking at the result the other day, we can get off to a flying start and 9 points from our firstt 3 games is entirely possible.
That type of start, getting through Fenerbache and signing some quality will jump start our season and possibly a new era.

  140. rico says:

Scott, the result was good, but there are still things wrong with the display – the huge hole in midfield is a real concern.

The lack of depth in defence is a concern too…

  141. Scott from Oz says:

Rico, as has been the case for a while, out first 11-15 are first rate, but behind that we are lacking.
Gustavo will be a nice start.

  142. rico says:

Exactly Scott… and having cleared out so many, we really have a fragile squad…

Gustavo would be a very good start, he and Arteta could rotate nicely 😉

  143. Scott from Oz says:

  147. Mr T says:

If Arsenal are really going after Gustavo (which I think they are) I am wondering how Wenger views him in comparison to Arteta. In the matches I have seen Gustavo play he’s had the “sitting” midfielder role, much like Wenger always uses Arteta. In my opinion Gustavo is a better defensive player than Arteta but Arteta may be more versatile. Altough at Arsenal I feel Arteta has very strict tactical instructions and isn’t allowed (or doesn’t have the guts) to show it. Arteta is now the captain and a big part of the backbone of the team.

So what do you think? Is Arsene seeing Gustavo as a substitute for Arteta in a few games? Or will he opt to play Gustavo box to box (which I don’t really see him doing succesfully)? Or does he envision Arteta playing in a more creative role like he did at Everton?
