Giroud to score 21 League goals this season? Deadly Duo forming already?

Morning all.

Onto a bit of fun this morning regarding our 6′ 4″ French centre-forward.

In May 2008, at an age of 21, Oliver Giroud signed up for French Ligue 2 side Tours.

In his first season, he made 23 league appearances and, scoring 9 goals. In his second season, he made 38 appearances and scored 21 goals.

Two summers after signing for Tours, he stepped up a league and signed for Montpellier. During his first season he made 37 league appearances, managing just 12 goals but his second season was much better. In 36 league appearances, he scored 21 goals. Not bad, one less appearance yet just under double the amount of goals.

Again, two summers later, he made the move to Arsenal. In his first season, he made 34 league appearances and netted 11 goals.

Here’s a player who definitely hits good form after he’s had one season at any club and 21 seems to be his favoured goal tally.

Who’d bet against him getting 21 again this season?

Seriously, Giroud has improved immensely since last season surely he’ll only continue to get better. I hope he gets 21 goals, in fact I hope he gets more and grabs the golden boot award. It’s about time an Arsenal player won it again and there’s no-one more deserving in my opinion.

The next Deadly Duo?
The next Deadly Duo?

I absolutely dread him picking up an injury as I just can’t see Nicklas Bendtner being anywhere near as effective as our big Frenchman.

Many in the media/newspapers are gushing over the Suarez and Sturridge partnership, but for me, the more deadly duo forming is that of Ozil and Giroud. Giroud seems to know where his counterpart is going to put the ball and Ozil seems to know where the big Frenchman is heading off to in order to receive the ball.

It’s gelling nicely I’d say….

Finally, a word for the fans on Tuesday night who were awesome and I don’t know if anyone has seen the reaction from the players on Twitter but many were complimenting the fans and said what a fantastic atmosphere it was.

So don’t let it stop there if you were one of those fans, keep it loud and stay proud of all that is going on in front of your eyes right now….

That’s it for another day, have a good one….

  1. potter says:

Sturridge and Suarez eh ? . Well they better make the most of it before Real make the predicted Β£50 million bid in January.

  2. tsgh says:

I thought Wally and OG12 piring was as good last season… they created over 45 goals between them and that includes assists…

Interesting that only Arsenal & Dortmund have beaten Bayern in last 52 games

  3. Andy says:

I think they will be, they have played and trained with germany enough to know each others game but still feel we are 1 striker short.
Who would you like to see come in january ? do we go for a quality support striker or world class striker?

  4. tsgh says:

Andy- if we are going for a striker then he has to come from the EPL to hit the ground running in my view as a lot of people have mention before…

Personally, I would make BVB an offer they can’t refuse by bidding for Reus…

  5. agirlagunner says:

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I always knew OG12 would come good. πŸ™‚ Can’t wait for Poldi to come back though. OG’s been looking knackered.

I think Walcott will come back strong. He has been lackluster and can only improve. And he is capable of some truly stunning goals.

  6. Scott from Ozil says:

Agag, i thought Giroud was tapped out as well, but his performance v Napoli was his best in our shirt.
He has got an extra gear, i reckon.
Yes, he can do with breaks though at various stages.

  7. Joaquim Moreira says:

    morning all
I read in the international press yesterday that we are interesting in El Sharidy from Milan

  8. agirlagunner says:

He is looking confident at the moment, isn’t he, Scott?? I really hope we come back for Suarez in January. I think he would be very tempted indeed by what we are trying to build. πŸ™‚

JM, El Shaarawy seems injury-prone. πŸ˜•

  9. Scott from Ozil says:

A month ago i’d have loved to get Suarez, but now……not so sure.
We have a very happy squad and he is the type of guy who could ruin that.
A very good striker and a team player could be the right way to go….i still like Torres.
Still, i guess it hinges on where we are at come January.

  10. agirlagunner says:

Scott, I want Suarez because time and again we have seen him create something out of absolute nothing. We can only be better with that kind of player. Of course I also still like Torres. πŸ˜‰ Haha.

Hello, Lord Haddock! πŸ˜› You have a lot of alter egos now, Kev. Shopper EO, Reverend, Brainwashed, now Fishy. πŸ˜€

  11. The Lord of the Haddock aka BK says:

That was a very good post Rico…
21 EPL goals with the way the team is playing seems nailed on…

I know many of us are concerned about Giroud staying fit, but I don’t see that there is anything to worry about. Giroud is as strong as an Ox and has a fantastic fitness record.
    Abou Diaby he is not….

Lee, I totally agree Bruv, I would love Suarez, but I fear that that one has passed us by mate.

Is it a year too soon for Akpom???
Lipman (18) is also coming on in leaps and bounds.
Rico, I actually think that Bendtner ‘can’ fill in for Giroud, for the odd game or two…

As Ginge says, spend the dough on Reus…
    Money well spent IMHO…,

  12. agirlagunner says:

I saw the Citeh drubbing by BM, ginge. The blue Mancs were able to salvage some pride (not much, mind you) only because of their subs. How skillful are Negredo and Silva?? That Dante got away with a lot of niggling fouls.

  13. The Lord of the Haddock aka BK says:

    Morning Agag..,

    You have a few yourself… πŸ™‚

Madam Butterfly, Madam Genius, Shopping Buddy, Holiday Rep, Sister Agag…

    πŸ˜€

  14. agirlagunner says:

I think I like the “genius” handle best. These days, the shopping bit is sadly untrue. πŸ™ πŸ˜›

  15. The Lord of the Haddock aka BK says:

    Genius it is then…. πŸ˜›

No luck on the jobs front then Agag???
    What a bummer mate… πŸ™

  16. ozgunner says:

Not sure Wenger will be under the same pressure in January to deliver so doubt if we’re going to see anything major, finger crossed though. Suarez is a certainty for Madrid if anywhere surely?

  17. tsgh says:

Agag- Dante is a brute… but Boateng’s foul was needed by the team…

Why didn’t your country claim Alaba has his mum is from yours?lol

  18. agirlagunner says:

Kev, not been looking yet. πŸ˜› Hope to find one before the year ends. Off on hols this weekend; not that I’m not always on one. πŸ˜€

Ginge, yeah, Boateng took one for the team. Silva’s shot hit the crossbar with such force, the ping actually echoed and could be heard on TV. Or maybe, that also has to do with how the home fans were well and truly silenced. πŸ˜€

Hiya, rico. Howdy? Hi, Oz. πŸ™‚

  19. agirlagunner says:

My erstwhile favorite, Clicky was caught ballwatching for the zillionth time in his career. Haha. πŸ˜€

  20. agirlagunner says:

Ginge, the way the papers here have written about him, you would think he holds a Philippine passport. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  21. rico says:

I saw that goal agag, Gary Neville gave Clichy a right roasting. He’s playing now like he used to for us. Rubbish!

How Hart is still England’s number one I’ll never know, he makes Ches look like Gordon Banks πŸ™‚

  22. agirlagunner says:

I am well, rico. A bit busy (for a change), haha!

rico, Clicky just stared at the ball. Tsk, tsk. With all of Citeh’s money, you would think they would go after a competent LB. Lol.

All those BM goals could have been saved by Hart. He was pooooooor. πŸ˜‰ If he keeps that up, England may as well not qualify for the WC. πŸ˜‰

  23. agirlagunner says:

    From the dotcom

Arsène Wenger has announced the following team news ahead of the West Bromwich Albion game:
    on the team news..

The only uncertainty we have could be Bacary Sagna who had a little hamstring problem. He has a scan today [Thursday] and from then on we will assess his situation. Everybody else came out of the Napoli game without a major problem so they should all be available.

    on Santi Cazorla (ankle)…
He is not in contention. But he could be not far after the international break.

    on Yaya Sanogo…
He is on a good way after his back problem. He will be the same, after the international break.

  24. rico says:

You are always busy agag, but usually at an airport check-in πŸ˜‰

Clichy won’t be there long under the new man if he carries on playing that way, maybe they’ll get Santos…

Not good news re Sagna, hopefully just a ploy to keep him away from France and really glad Santi won’t be heading off with Spain..

  25. The Lord of the Haddock aka BK says:

Greetings to the King of Sardinia…
The Lord of the Plectrum … πŸ˜‰

    Jenkinson for Sagna…
Gnabry for Ramsey or whoever else has a slight knock.
    Otherwise unchanged team.
Winning Mentality = 3 points for the Gunners this weekend…

    Simples… πŸ˜€

  26. rico says:

Kev, going back to Jebb, it could be that the ban only applies to England and he can play in the Euro competition..

  27. rico says:

Seems about right Adam, I won’t ask what you are listenining to πŸ˜‰

I’m off to get my waterproofs on and head out into the rain with Fido.

Back in an hour, or before if the heavens truly open…

  28. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning Gooners, nice post Rico.
Glen Hoddle last night said that its very unusual to pick up a top striker in January as if the triker has been playing well the club would be loathe to sell them, I kinda go along with that theory, so what we have now is probably what we’ll end the season with. Wenger may find a cheapy or even a loaner but i doubt he’ll bother if Giroud stays fit. Poldi Walcott Sanogo and Park would be enough and if anything happened to them we can always fall back on superbent.

  29. BrainwashedKev says:

    Re: Jebb..,
    Yeah, could be Rico…

But the club still played him despite the accusations.
And when you consider that we are strong in the position he plays, Zelalem, Olsson, Toral, Crowley, it makes me wonder if the Officials were behaving a tad OTT..?

We will see in the forthcoming weeks and months how it plays out and if the club retains him?!

  30. Micko says:

    Nice photo rico !
A couple of finely honed athletes at their peak, a bit like myself, I may be in my 30’s now but haven’t given hope of strutting my stuff at a premiership club one day.

The dreaded ‘Y’ word, poor ole spuds hahhaha.

  31. rico says:

Ha ha Micko, some of your memories of Arsenal would suggest 30 years old was a while ago for you πŸ˜‰

  32. rico says:

Ha ha – wonder where he is these days, he’s not been here in ages..

Maybe he’s sunning himself in Cyprus…

  33. rico says:

    You are a one-off then Adam…. πŸ˜‰

Talking of food, I must go and get dinner too….

    Back shortly..

  34. potter says:

Spurs win keeps them involved , the more games they play , the more chance of injuries and tiredness as they trip off all over Eastern Europe.

  35. BrainwashedKev says:

    Rumours, rumours, rumours..,

Just read that Cazorla could be included in the squad for West Brom, if an ‘unnamed’ Arsenal midfielder, drops out…

I guess that Spain will pick him anyway.

    Night All

  36. rico says:

AW begs to differ Kev, night to you…

I’m off to, got a stinker of a headache,

    Catch up tomorrow, night all…

  37. Scott from Ozil says:

Rico, your dream has come true….Highbury House is now truly Arsenal royalty.
We are surrounded by Lords and Kings πŸ™‚
Morning all…or is that good evening all?

  38. BrainwashedKev says:

Re: Cazorla, it was a rumour off of one of those crappy sites Rico…

The story just drew me in, as it did seem plausible, unusual for those rumour-driven sites.
