Giroud & Bendtner Shine. Were we really Ozil's second choice club?

Morning all.

There really is little/no news today but this little peice from The Daily Mail caught my eye…

Football writer Chris Wheeler has taken to writing yet another ‘story’ about Mesut Ozil and his move to Arsenal.

According to him, our midfield genius could still have moved to Manchester United just hours before the transfer window closed on the last day of the transfer window, despite a deal having been agreed with Arsenal and a medical passed.

Here’s the contents of the article:

The Ozil drama came at the end of a chaotic window for United and their new manager David Moyes in which the Premier League champions tried and failed with a scattergun approach to signing some of Europe’s top midfielders.

However, a genuine mandate signed by him was presented to the club in mid-August but United decided not to go ahead with the deal after taking 48 hours to consider the offer.

It is understood that Moyes was looking for a midfield general and was not convinced that Ozil’s style fitted the type of domineering player he needed.

It has emerged, however, that there was interest from Real in reviving the Ozil deal until late on deadline day.

Even though he had passed a medical for Arsenal while on international duty in Munich and flown to London to complete the transfer, Real were prepared to do a deal with United as late as 8pm with Ozil understood to prefer a move to Old Trafford.

However, contrary to reports today, although United considered the offer they did not attempt to hijack his move to Arsenal with a late bid.

What exactly does the although mean by ‘it’s emerged’ and ‘it’s understood Ozil preferred to move to Old Trafford’?

That kind of talk happen a lot on football websites everywhere when fans profess to be in the know about certain goings on within the game, yet seldom do those things turn out to factual. Are these football writers any different, do they actually know that what they write is true or do they just write things as they see it?

I’m sure this saga will rumble on, especially as Mesut Ozil has made such a huge impact on our seasons beginning and the red side of Manchester suffer with their own form. We all know most journalists/pundits really dislike to see us do well.

But as the tales, which appear to have very little substance of truth to them continue, it’s no wonder Mesut Ozil’s father and advisor Mustafa is taking legal action against an agent over what he claims is a forged mandate offering the Germany international to United on August 7.

I have also read he is considering suing the newspapers who continue to write articles about his son which are not factual.

Who could blame him if he did?

Internationals:

Mesut Ozil was on target for Germany in their 3-0 victory over the ROI, Giroud scored twice for France in their 6-0 thrashing of Australia and Nicklas Bendtner nabbed two goals for Denmark, but they weren’t enough to see off an Italy side who grabbed an equaliser right at the end.

Jack made an appearance from the bench in Englands 4-1 victory over Montenegro and Ramsey played his part in the 1-0 victory for Wales.

Think that’s about it for today, have a good one all…..

That’s it for today, have a good one…

The thing is even if that is true and he did prefer a move to man u, I’m sure he’s quite happy with his choice right now as we are playing better football and he fits like a glove in the style of play. so all the detractors can actually go and do one.

There is nothing wrong with choices? l was poised to study medicine in the university, but i ended up with engineering. I never regret my second choice because i love it as well. Whether arsenal is first or second choice, what matters is that Ozil is playing for arsenal and we love it. End of quote!

  4. Dave Highbury says:

He didn’t go to Manure, because their squad just isn’t capable of the quality and style that Arsenal are capable of which suits Ozil perfectly. Sir Alex has left an ageing, in-dept, fu**ed up mess in his wake coz he was a selfish git that over spent for his own selfish benefit. Secondly, Moyes is shite. Thirdly, his German pals are here, and the atmosphere is banging right now. Finally, Arsenal have been playing the best football and most successful football since half way through last season.

    No injuries reported …………..yet then?

Not a bad haul of goals or assists from our first teamers. Marvellous.
Let’s hope they all return hail and hearty and ready to stretch out lead in the EPL! Next week.

Hi Rico and all you lovely Gooners,
Trust you have been keeping well.
I agree with your view on Sports Journalists Rico, they appear to dig up any tiny snippet and turn it into a story…. With regards all players choice of Clubs, I believe that this kind of thing goes on all the time, with last minute twists and turns, with the selling club wanting the best deal for them and not necessarily the player.
Anyway, what is important is that he is at Arsenal and what an impact he has made.
Its early days, and a long season ahead, but with the odd addition in the January transfer window, and avoiding injuries to key players, could see us in a great position come March/April time. Lets see.
Great result for the Hammers last weekend…..

I reckon that the press believe that Arsenal supporters are the most gullible members of their readership. We appear to be the easiest to wind up and they know that as a media all they have to do is aim a shot at the club and people will jump on the bandwagon in droves. Lets face it Adrian Durham has made a career on the back of criticising the club and still the non thinking fan falls for it and phones in to be shouted down. The regular so called ” in the know ” journo’s get their air of publicity to feed their egos by giving 5 minute slots of opinion whilst trousering their bonus fees, and still the so called fans fall for it. Is it naievity or just that people feel oppressed. Remember a survey a few years ago found that in the written Fleet Street press the greater percentage of hacks were Spurs and West ham supporters, only Steve Stammers had a penchant for our lot. In the whole of my life the press have only ever damned us with faint praise . basically like a lot of the football world they are just jealous.

    Morning all.
Ever since I was a kid playing football every day on Highbury Fields, Arsenal have always been news. Always. Even when the club has been having a very poor time of it and there were plenty of those, we were always headline makers. The club of the last 20 years must be Man Utd, given their success, but Arsenal have always had more headline stories than the Mancs.
What about the chronic lack of success down the road at Shite Hart Lane despite the fact that they have been a sugar daddy club for years and have spent millions and millions? You would think that even the most sober football journalist, if such a thing exists, would have a field day constantly rubbing it in wouldn’t you? But no, not a bit of it. Jack Wilshere having a fag outside a nightclub seems to be the story, purely because he plays for Arsenal.

  9. Wavy says:

The story of manure and Ozil may have some legs or it may be the dizzy imaginings of a desperate journo. essentially what he has reported is the Higuain scenario revisited. Real asking for more from another interested party, just to ramp up the fee….another bidding war, as per the one we lost to Napoli. It’s fair to say that it may be true. With £541m debt Real need every euro it can raise no matter how it is achieved! They have no scruples, just ‘giv us da munnee’ moral level lower than an alley cat!
Who cares anyway? Ozil signed for us, has improved us whilst manure have gone down the toilet. Good decision Mesuet!
File the story under ‘fiction’ and move on!

  10. John says:

I think this sort of story looks to rise both united & Arsenal fans…because on the 1 hand you have arsenal fans going “oh Ozil wanted united & only took us as a 2nd option….but u also haste the united fans really pissed because how many of them would say they needed a midfield enforcer over a world class creative midfielder!! It’s like the stories that get planted in the paper about arsenal being in for a decent player who we probably don’t necessarily need or can afford…so when that player either signs a new contract or moves to say Chelsea or city our fans come out baying for wengers head because he’s missed out on another target when in reality we weren’t looking at him at all!! Like take Williams & michu…I’d be very surprised if we were seriously looking at either player but Swansea know if they throw arsenals name into the mix then it’s plausible because as far as the media are concerned we need strengthening in every area of the field!!
I couldn’t care less if Ozil joined us because we promised real wilshires 1st born child…the reality is, he’s joined us & looked brilliant…he’s got the potential to take us to ye next level & he makes us real title contenders!!

  11. Tim says:

Hi rico,I watched the germany game and both ozil and per were amazing.
I dont think ozil thought of going to united because his international team mates at arsenal and the fergie factor is no longer there meaning united will strugle to attract world class players…”only one Arsene”

  12. Bradsterbradlop says:

    Afternoon all,

I didn’t see the game, was Townsend deserving of his goals and MoM award? See the media have him a starter and Walcott on the bench if his form continues.

Should Ramsey have taken that penalty? I would’ve given it to the out going Bellamy as a good gesture.

  13. Joaquim Moreira says:

When Eusébio arrived at Lisbon airport, said that it was to go to Sporting, but was “kidnapped” by Benfica. From here, you all know the rest of history.
Newspapers no longer speak of William was “kidnapped” by the Totts by Chelsea?
In my opinion, the journalist must be of United and has “elbow pain” (not sure if this expression exists in english)

  14. Micko says:

Watching Theo ‘you know’ Walcott on the box last night ‘you know’ is ‘you know’ is a great pundit ‘you know’
I think I speak for everyone when I say get well soon Theo.

  15. Micko says:

rico, Ozil took his goal really well, quite exquisite, lovely finish, mind ya he was up against the millwall goalie.

  16. rico says:

Thanks Micko, sounds just like what we have come to expect from Ozil…

Didn’t realise Milwall had a keeper, the amount of goals they concede…

  17. Micko says:

Don’t you go upsetting the Bushwackers now !

Beat Poland and to the Copacabana we go or is gonna be a back door job.

Not long till Strictly rico, catch you later.
