Gervinho & Suarez! Was that Arsenal or Oxford Utd playing yesterday??

Morning all,

What a day yesterday was……..

England secured the first test in the Ashes series, just!

Then within minutes, Arsenal kicked off their first pre-season match which I sat and watched with a couple of friends who don’t have ESPN. I signed up on Saturday, just so I could watch this tour…

Not long into the game and one of my friends said:

‘Your lot look just like Oxford United’!

For a split second I was all ready to verbally batter him about how our players and our style of football is nothing like what his club serve up, but then the penny dropped when he started laughing. Thankfully, I had kept quiet.

‘It’s the yellow and blue kit’ a voice said, I too had to chuckle…..

So we watched the game, and for me it was very enjoyable and it had pretty much everything. Plenty of goals, some really neat and pacey passing, a bit of trickery here and there and we ended up winning which was the perfect ending. It was also the perfect start to our pre-season workout ….

However, it’s ok playing that way against an Indonesian Dream Team, let’s see how we play against much stronger opposition in this pre-season before we get too excited about things.

On the flip side, let’s not merely dismiss some of the silky stuff we witnessed. Let’s just keep everything in proportion.

Oh, and let’s hope Arsene Wenger doesn’t think we need a goal scorer, just because we hit the back of the net many times….

Jack didn’t get a run-out yesterday as he’s recovering from flu but he should be well enough to play the next game which is on Wednesday against Vietnam. Ryo and Szczesny were both unused subs too, so I strongly suspect that like Jack, they get some playing time in a couple of days…

Wenger , Gazidis and the squad have already touched down in Vietnam and here’s Arsene getting into the spirit of things…..

No Comment .....
No Comment …..

One man who isn’t on the tour is Thomas Vermaelen which is down to a back injury. Being he cynic I am,I thought he was on the ‘for sale’ list but it seems not according to Arsene Wenger:

I cannot stick with him now because I think he will miss the start of the season. But certainly he will still be the club captain.

He had a back problem. He came back with it and couldn’t practice until now. He’s out for how long we don’t know.

So no new captain and I strongly suspect that if the manager is being honest, no new central defender.

One player who certainly seems to be a gonner is Gervinho. It seems it’s just a case of when and where he’s going…

Meanwhile, the Suarez story gathers pace as a few red tops suggest we are going to up our bid in an effort to secure a deal with Liverpool. I’m still not convinced about this one, not the quality of the player but the reality of us spending what it would take to get Liverpool to sell to a rival. And we really are a rival to them as like us, their goal over recent years has been to make it into the top four. Sadly for them, they fail season after season….. Ha!

We however have and signing a player of his quality will only enhance our chances of pushing for top spot.

But he alone wouldn’t be enough, nor would relying on those younger players on show last night be enough. Of course they will have their part to play if they don’t go out on loan but throwing them into Premier League or Champions League fixtures is in my view, too much too soon…..

That’s about if for another day, have a good one……..

Good Morning to the Lady of the House (again) from one of the sarky old buuggers and to all my fellow Gooners in residence.

  2. tsgh says:

A good post Rico… and you are right, there is no point in going over board thus far… but saying that we struggled against Malaysia XI last season with Song, Diaby, Djourou, TV and all the big guns except Judas… it took Eisfield and Aneke to rescue us…

I am hearing reports that Ramsey Rambo has been detained to Vietnam… a case of mistaken identity;)

My rumour for the day is that AW has verbally promised the PSG owner that if Psg gave us Ibrahimovic for the season, he would take over next summer.

    Morning to the House btw…

  3. rico says:

Morning again Cg, Ts and all…

Ah but that was then Ts, this is now….

Mind you, two sides from Manchester have failed to win their opening games in the heat 😉

I loved watching the game, I really did and it was great to see a few younger players showing such great promise for the time they were on the pitch…

I loved the goals we scored, all were really good, especially Girouds second but there’s a but….

Anyway, Vietnam on Wednesday, will they be a bit stronger?

  4. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – I’m sure it wont be a case of First Blood or any of the numerous sequels. Anyway that Rambo (Stallone) only plays in goal.

  5. Scott from Oz says:

    Good morning fellow Gooners.
I am glad people are giving credit and staying positive over the result..
Obviously it is hardly League winning form, but still a good blow out for the guys and a chance for some of our kids to strut their stuff.
Let’s hope a few of them show enough to have an impact in first team football this season.

  6. rico says:

How NOT to reassure a player is key to your club:

David Moyes claims Wayne Rooney is still needed at Manchester United – as cover for star striker Robin van Persie.

Rooney has been the focus of intense speculation regarding his United future ever since former boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed the England international had handed in a transfer request in May.

But the new man at Old Trafford insists the 27-year-old forward’s flexibility remains an important asset for the club and so he is reluctant to let him leave.

“Overall, my thought on Wayne is, if for any reasons we had an injury to Robin van Persie, we’ll need him,” said Moyes.

He added: “Wayne can play up on his own, he can play dropped in. It’s going to be a time to see how I work with Wayne.

“Manchester United isn’t about Wayne Rooney. Manchester United is about the team – the club.

“I won’t allow Wayne Rooney to become more important than the football club and the football team, because that’s the heart of it.”

  7. Canadian Gooner says:

Scott – At the very least, I’m sure we’ll see some of those Young Guns in the League Cup this season.

  8. McRaymonds says:

    Good morning gunners:

Yesterday our youngsters did well and i think wenger shud give them a chance. It also seems like arsenals is much concentrated on signing a striker forgetting that we need a defensive midfielda… Now that vermalain is injured nobody seems to say anything about it..

  9. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – ManUre’s financial man carried on with that theme when he stated that he did not have any contract extensions or renegotiations scheduled at the moment. It would seem that ManUre has agreed on a corporate public relations strategy with regards to Woonie.

  10. tsgh says:

😀 Cg. I think Escape to Victory is one of Adam’s or Ak fave movie…

Interesting enough…. not being able to sleep last night I re-watched the Arsenal vs Everton match played on 16/04… that infamous 0-0 match, OG12 missed a great chance… and Ramsey and MA08 bossed Gibson and MF in midfield… then I read a post on NN from another blog asking if Ramsey is better than MF… and you know what… it is an interesting question.

Some of the free kicks MF gave away in dangerous areas were careless to say the least;if we had Honda or Pirlo in our side we will have scored from at least one of them…

    http://arsenalarsenal.wordpress.com/2013/07/15/ramsey-is-better-than-fellaini/?

  11. rico says:

McRay, we have been saying that on here for many seasons…

I think he will be gone soon Cg, where is the only thing to be decided…

  12. Canadian Gooner says:

McRaymond – The club have been linked with bids and/or inquiries for numerous DMs. Who, if any, is an actual target is anyone’s guess. We will have to wait and see.

  13. tsgh says:

Rico, I think the last 2 matches in Japan will be a far greater test… Vietnam are a poor side but like most far eastern countries they make you work for your win…

  14. Bradster says:

    Morning friends,

Shew the British are on fire this summer. Mixed emotions in the Ashes yesterday though, but in the end preferred the English over the Auzzies. Mixed emotions was that the 19 y.o Agar almost saved the match with his first innings knock.

    Good post today Rico.

  15. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – If either, I would think that movie would be more Kev’s style than Adam’s.

On the evidence of the U21 Cup Final, i hope our DM target is NOT Geoffrey Kondogbia. I know it was only one game, but he did not impress. Neither did Pogba, but he was definitely the better of the two. Seeing Gonalons out of the running, I’m hoping for C

  16. tsgh says:

Rico… we do not play with a traditional DM per se… we play with a deep lying playmaker as other teams like BVB, Juve 09 do with Gundalon, Pirlo… behind a mobile worker in Bender or Vidal…

Even Man u do not have a DM…

  17. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – true, but unless Arsene is going to completely reshape the squad playing formation, we do need one.

  18. rico says:

Thanks Ts, I look forward to those…

And thanks Bradster re the post, agree re the Brits, can’t keep them down right now….

  19. rico says:

Let me reprase that, why is Fellaini being compared to Ramsey?

Surely he should be compared to Diaby and out of the two, Fellaini is leaps better. He’s fit for a start…

Imho, Ramsey and Fellaini is what we need with Arteta for rotation…

  20. tsgh says:

Cg, i am with you on the need for a DM… I think that is the most important signing we should be making…

I defer on the view that we need a’ beast’. Most Arsenal fans go on about AW not changing but always go on about PV04… talk about not moving on.

In my view ‘beast’ have bad ball control and may not be effective in our system. As an example Seville have Medel the pitbull as their Dm but he is not good on the ball so makes Kondogbia look good on the ball… the same way Gattuso made Pirlo and seedorf look good. In fact when Gattuso left AC Milan, Pirlo was so bad he was allowed to leave on a free to join Juve… but Juve have Vidal to do the dirty work for Pirlo to stand out.

I think AW should be going for Capoue, Cabaye or Morgan Schneiderlin. The later is 6’0 tall and is surgical in his tackling… he is also very impressive on the ball.

  21. rico says:

    😛 Scott….

Ts – Schneiderlin could be a possibility as Southampton have snapped up Wanyama haven’t they…

  22. tsgh says:

Rico… MF fails miserably in all defensive areas… stats or watching him in real life….
    ————————————-
No one is comparing MF to AR16… but it is not progrressive imho to say a midfielder is not like this or like that. Todays midfielders should be complete players not just bit part or useful only in one position.

As I say always (my opinion so you do not have to belief it) even Alan smith said when we played against Everton in April that his performance shows he is a far better player in the attacking third than as a defensive midfielder…

Most pundits are clueless and only base their views on MF performances in 5 or 6 games a season i.e like the one against Man U on the first day of last season.

As I said Man U have not had a DM since Butt and Keano, Hargreaves was meant to be the solution but that was £18M down the drain. But they do win against the best of them! Why because een Fat wooney covered more distance than any of our midfielders when we faced united last season at old toilette…

If MF was as good as AFC fans make him out to be why has Mauren or Pelligrini gone for 29 y.o DM or CM instead?

  23. tsgh says:

Scott its indeed impressive… especially after buying Thiago too for £23M

rico, i think Morgan is a very good player

  24. Scott from Oz says:

    Good points on Fellaini, Ginge.
Also, work rate has long been the defining factor of any Arsenal performance.
    We work, we play well.
If we are sluggish, we play like crap.

  25. W.A.T.H says:

We need big ugly scary AND good on the ball… Not to much to ask for..!

    Morning All.

Scott, never let it be said YOU said Higuain is a done deal….! 😀

  26. Bradster says:

I agree ts. As I’ve said before, the price of MF won’t justify the role he wants to play. I would prefer him in the box to box role but I don’t see him driving us forward like Diaby or Wilshere can so he would be a waste at that price. Also, I don’t see him having the close control that our style would require of him.

  27. tsgh says:

Rico, me too I truly like MF… maybe it is a case of me not being clear… infact I have always stated on here than I think MF will be a very good addition but not the new PV04 the lazy and clueless pundits make him out to be…

Before, Moyes joined man u the pundits predicted that MF will be his first signing! Even Moyes has not gone for him.. even though every man and his dog knows man u need a CM preferably a creative one or strong enough to replace keano…

Morning Mr WATH… how was your weekend?

  28. Scott from Oz says:

    Say it Wath.
    I believed it.
I still believe it will happen.
The only reason it won’t is if we get Rooney if Suarez.

  29. Bradster says:

What a joke, Wigan want 20 mil for McCarthy. He’s good but not from a relegated side. I like Schinderlin and Cabaye, they can tackle and have good ball skills.

  30. tsgh says:

Brad, Rico dislikes Cabaye 😉 🙂

NUFC will want £15M at least for cabaye… he is approaching the final year of his contract if I am not wrong…

  31. Bradster says:

hey ts, all good this side. Yep, that’s an everyday occurrence, it’s a mild winter this year, my grass is still green.

  32. rico says:

Ts, still plenty of time for Fellaini to end up there, 14th Aug (I think I read) is the date the contract clause expires…..

  33. tsgh says:

Brad, Draxler is better and will cost cheaper than McCarthy…

One reason AW always walks away… look at Bentley £17M and we got 50% from the scums too…

  34. tsgh says:

I hope so too lady rico… with him in the side we can play the likes of Ox and maybe Eisfield often.

SC19 will not feel like he should have drank his milk as a kid when there is a corner kid awarded against us next time… 🙂

  35. Bradster says:

Lol, so I guess it’s MF over Cabaye because Rico says so. 🙂

Think Cabaye still has 3 years ts. Think he signed for 5 years when he arrived.

  36. tsgh says:

Oh I see re Cabaye… is this not his 4th season?

I knew AW liked Rambo like me…Wenger – Visiting Vietnam is a childhood dream.

  37. tsgh says:

According to the transfer gospel… caught offside, Unreal want £34M for Hig in order to fund other purchases i.e Bale.

I think Bale will end up at United…

Napoli are now going for Hig… no contest then is it?… Argentines love Naples because of Maradona…

  38. ktr7 says:

Good read rico.it was a good workout yesterday.i was very impressed by Ramsey whose confidence is sky high at the moment.I was also intrigued to see Ox as our AM.he could be excellent for that role due to his directness.i would also like to see jack given another shot in that role.

  39. Canadian Gooner says:

    Good Night Scott.

Ginge – I’m not sure if Fellaini is a real target or more of Arsene’s smoke and miirrors to keep attention away from his true target(s). I view Fellaini more as a box-to-box MF who could fill in at DM. He would be good for cutting out the high balls over the top. However, I’m hoping for Capoue for DM.

  40. Canadian Gooner says:

AS for Ramsey, I’m not sure what his best position is. Until that becomes apparent, he is a great squad player who can fill in at a number of positions.

  41. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – Regards Higuain, I posted a link to a similar story from Sport Witness earlier today. It include some quotes and an article from El Confidencial one of UnReal’s unofficial mouthpieces. I think think Perez, their President, has lost the plot. They have jacked up the price a couple of times. If they aren’t careful they could get nothing and be stuck with a disgruntled player.

  42. ktr7 says:

I honestly think we are off higuain’s case ts.we may have made him a priority earlier but not anymore.the politics at madrid have played a part but also with Suarez available we have changed our focus.

Suarez may cost more but i can see why AW is willing to shell out more to get him.Higuain is an out and out no.9.this means that he needs proper supply to bang them in.for club and country he has messi/ozil playing just behind him to do just that.those 2 players rack up an insane number of assists season after season since they have a consistent final ball.

At Arsenal.for the no.10 role as it stands.we have jack/ox/rosicky assuming santi stays wide.none of those players have a consistent final.ball to supply higuain and therefore if he is purchased as our only attacker he will.not have much impact.he must be accompanied by a top AM like cesc for him to truly thrive.i doubt cesc is coming especially after thiago has left.

To get a top AM we’ll have to shell out £30mil+ in addition to hig which means we mqy require around £60 mil.on the other hand suarez tends to drop into midfield to assist and can also play wide.since.he is also extremely talented he csn fashion chances on his own and we don’t necessarily require a top AM to.feed.him to.score.this will allow wenger to groom ox/jack.for the no.10 role without asking too much from them.

  43. tsgh says:

Cg, we all know the true reason Perez is acting that way especially with the re-election coming up… 😉

Capoue should have been with the squad on tour… as we bid 9 to 10M last January a 10 to 12M bid would have clinched him. imo.

The boy has refused to join Monaco as he wants to play in the EPL but I believe a bid Roma or Sc04 will take him from our grasp…

  44. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – I was thinking a bit more about Moyes’ comments regarding Woonie and concluded that he may just be trying to show who is boss. If he isn’t careful he might overplay his hand, if hasn’t already. The other possibillity is that he wants to force Woonie into putting in an official written transfer request to take some of the heat of himself. Unless one or both of them don’t back away and let this settle down a bit, this could become very messy. Neither of them strike me as being very diplomatic or concilliatory, so we could see fireworks.

  45. rico says:

Same can be said of Cesar, there has been a few headlines/comments about how Wenger has missed out yet again…

But how can he miss out on a player if he is not interested in signing him?

    I’d rather Begovic anyway… 😉

  46. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – Good point, I had forgotten about their Presidential elections. However, he may be making himslef look like the Great Negotiator who doesn’t take any crap; but if this blows-up, which it might, he could end up with egg all over his face.

Some of these transfer sagas are becoming more complicated than a good mystery movie/novel. Stay tuned for the next exciting or boring installment.

  47. Canadian Gooner says:

ktr7 – I was reading one article that quoted on of QPR’s officials as of last night that quoted him as saying that they had not received any offers from Arsenal or Napoli. That one could rumble on for a while too.

  48. Canadian Gooner says:

Anyway, up late last night and up early this morning to catch our game from Jakarta. I’m off to bed. Have a great day folks. Keep the Faith!

  49. rico says:

Cg – I think I read that Moyes has told him that if he wants to go then put it in writing….

I’s still love us to sign him….

    Could definitely be fireworks.. Good

  50. rico says:

Manchester United are preparing a £35m bid to bring Cesc Fabregas back to England, according to Sky sources.

The Barcelona midfielder has repeatedly said he wants to stay at his hometown club despite difficulty winning over some supporters last season.

That was his second back in Catalonia following his return from Arsenal, who reportedly have first refusal on Fabregas if Barca decide to sell.

United’s interest remains firm, despite those possible stumbling blocks, as they search for a creative midfield presence to offset the loss of newly-retired Paul Scholes.

And Sky sources understand that interest will be made official imminently.

Fabregas would become the second former Arsenal captain at Old Trafford, alongside Robin van Persie, if the Premier League champions managed to pull off a deal.

  51. Bradster says:

So that means Moyes has no confidence in Kagawa. It’s his second season in the EPL and would suit our style.

  52. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Afternoon all.
Kagawa …. we’ve never had much success with Chinamen, Koreans and Japanese…

  53. tsgh says:

balague, has only one scoop per transfer window…. he has used that card on the young boy who moved to Everton…Deulofeu

hi Syg and Lewis… interesting about the bid if true… can Barca afford to make a 50% loss on CF4 if they accept £35M from man ure…

  54. tsgh says:

I bet it is SYG. Looking forward to more update from you and emma later.
. CF4 is a proper snake if he moves to man u… I always suspected he was a snake… Micko get back here 🙂

  55. southyorkshiregunner says:

Suarez to Arsenal would be reminiscent of Sol Campbell transfer to Arsenal. Nobody really expected it, and for four years after that transfer we were the team to beat.

  56. tsgh says:

So has a bid be made or what… from the video it did not seem like it was so… at least not an improved bid anyways

  57. ktr7 says:

There is no way i can see barca letting fab leave.their midfield options as it stands are xavi/iniesta/busquets/fab/song for an entire season with 60 games.unless they have got someone else lined up i can’t see it happening.

secondly if they do we get first refusal at £25 mil and we have a clause that entitles us to 50% the next transfer fee.if the mancs are to beat us they have to make a bid of over £50 mil for it to make any financial sense to barca.anyway i don’t see him leaving this summer.

  58. W.A.T.H says:

    Spot on KT,

Sorry Ts had a few things to sort out had to shoot off, All good mate had a decent w/end hope you did as well. Now for Arsen to make those spectacular signings…! Something is obviously going on for him to be so vocal he is never like this..!

  59. rico says:

Kev must be worrying about his fiver 😉

Ts – I’m not so sure JC is exaggerating too much…

Well, other than the Cesc departure of course 😉

  60. ktr7 says:

Also id like to oppose cross on fab.if we did not want him back in the event he left barca we wouldn’t have inserted that clause in the first place.case closed.

if barca are not careful they will have a shocker of a window despite the acquisition of neymar.it will be very difficult for them to.prize away thiago silva from PSG so why would they give themselves more headaches by letting fab go?

  61. ktr7 says:

Another factor is the fact that xavi is slowing down as shown by the confeds.if the mancs bid £25-£35 mil and barca accept the bid they’ll basically be taking £12.5-17.5 mil to replace 2 WC players.not a chance unless their management is even more daft than i think.

  62. rico says:

That’s what I think too Wath, and that’s why I believe what Gazidis said. I just cannot see a man of his intelligence feeding us all of that positive stuff, just to let us all down again.

He, and AW must know that if they don’t back up all their words, the poop is seriously going to hit the fan…

    They won’t want that.

They want bums on seats at The Ems….

  63. tsgh says:

TH14 tearing up the MLS… a true legend… he even allowed a striker who has not scored yet this season to take a penalty…

Kt, I hope you are right… I think Barca need £40M from somewhere to buy a defender preferably Thiago.

The fact that they have not rejected it outright scares me a lil’.

Hi WATH my weekend was good. The win and performance yesterday was encouraging so…

  64. tsgh says:

Rico, I think a word from PV04 may sway CF4 into joining united…

I think we are being naive to think united have not gauged CF4’s interest before a bid had been placed…

If the clause is true… then I suspect AFC will wait until Barca have confirmed in any form of way that CF4 is available before we make the bid…

Either way according to IG’s comments 2 years ago I suspect the board did not appreciate Cesc’s choice in the way he moved…

  65. southyorkshiregunner says:

Outside bet LOL. Bet Victor have Fabregas to join Everton at 66/1 and 888 Sport have Suarez to join Everton at 249/1

  66. emma says:

    Good day fellow gunners,

I can see that its not only Chamakh that has being smoking shisha but Moyemanure as well. I have a strong feeling he will not go the way of the greedy dutchman.

  67. ktr7 says:

ts am sure united have made their considerations before bidding.however they must know of the clauses too.there is only one way they can gauge our interest:by bidding and thats what they have done.if barca do accept it its up to us now.

  68. emma says:

I wonder why manure need Fabregas when they said Anderson was a more superior player than him and Cleverly can replicate Fabregas

  69. southyorkshiregunner says:

They all rave about Brady, but the truth is, he shafted us – Terry Neill stating at the time, “How do you replace the best there is?”

  70. W.A.T.H says:

Same price as FAb, I’m on it mate def worth a punt 😀

He stitched us up to a degree SY but we didn’t show enough ambition and to be fair did go on to better things… one of the very few…!

  71. emma says:

Manure are getting desperate now. Since they are after our ex-players. I would suggest they go for SQUILLACI he is free. For the next couple of years they are going to pay above the roof for them to attract World Class players to the club as MOYE is an unknown entity

  72. W.A.T.H says:

We never played on paper though did we SY, we always flattered to deceive… always a good cup side not good enough by far in the league…!

  73. Lewis says:

Is it definitely true we have a first refusal £25mill buy back on cesc, or 50% sell on fee if he doesn’t come to Arsenal?

If so it’s fairly certain cesc is staying there. On top of that do barca not still owe use money from both the song and cesc deals? Utd would have to stump up around £50 mill just for barca to make any money.

  74. southyorkshiregunner says:

Brady left and we had our best season in the league since 1972-73 finishing third. We beat Champions Villa in the last game of the season, with Brian McDermott scoring one and beat second placed Ipswich at Portman Road in the last few games of the season.

Man Utd bought Stapleton that pre-season and to replace him we bought …… Ray Hankin?

The first game of the 81-82 season according to the Daily Mirror, saw Stoke’s new signing from Port Vale run rings around our international left back Kenny Sanson. They beat us 1-0 at Highbury.

  75. southyorkshiregunner says:

The kid who ran rings around Kenny Sansom that day was Alex Oxlade’s dad ……

  76. tsgh says:

Like the player has no say in this…

the only loser will be Hig if he does not do a ‘Wiltord’ or OG12 imho…

  77. rico says:

Can’t believe they let the chase go on for so long but fab story….

Bad as each other i’d say…..

  78. devilgunner says:

Good Evening Lady, Sir, Gentlemen and Ladies.

I saw yesterday’s goals. And all of them had something nice about them. Either the teamwork or execution or both were present in all 7 goals.

My favourite??? Hmmmm. Podolski’s for sure. And the other one running it close it the Eisfeldt one. typical Kraut execution.

still not signed anyone yet. I did a short marathon on the internet and was astounded to read that someone said that if we do not buy good players its all the clubs fault for dithering about. Then the bomb………..someone answered back saying that if we signed player A or player B its because they are not good enough for top clubs. Player A was Suarez and Player B was Higuain. So its loose loose with them all the time.

Pass me the cat’o’nine tails. I will make his bum look like a tomato from Rico’s garden.

  79. devilgunner says:

    We think its great Rico.

But some AFC supporters take the biscuit. they are never ever happy with anything. I think even if we won all that there is to be won they will not be happy stating that there is no competition.

  80. devilgunner says:

Here are the goals Rico……if you want to use them tomorrow for your article………..

  81. devilgunner says:

I did not see the game. but from the comments I garnered we did play well.

if Indonesia were to play against Bradford and Blackburn how would they fare do you think??

  82. rico says:

The opposition didn’t really offer much Devil, but what we did, we did well. Plenty of positives but as I said in the post, we can’t make the result/performance anything other than what it was against a weak side…

Podolski, imho, finally looks like he is free of injury and fit….

  83. rico says:

I’m going to have an early night as it’s quiet…

    Catch you tomorrow…

Night devil and anyone else reading….

  84. Gtid says:

SSN: “We asked people close to Suarez negotiations between Arsenal & Liverpool ‘could he join Arsenal?’ They said 1 word:”maybe” # AFC

Sky Sports: Arsenal (I)’s Luis Suarez was closerto £ 35 million, not £ 30 million as published in the press. # AFC # LFC

John Cross: ‘Wenger would rather sign Suarezthan Higuain’

John Cross: I still think Arsenal will sign a very big player this summer

  85. Scott from Oz says:

Mate, we could get Higuain and would have had him by now if the Suarez option hadn’t opened up, i think.
Then again, who the hell knows lol
    See ya Wath.

  86. allezkev says:

That’s good news Potter, re: Campbell…

Crystal Palace are/were interested in taking him on loan for a season…

  87. devilgunner says:

I can almost hear Kev spluttering on his cornflakes while coughing up a fiver.

Good Morning Lady, Sir, Gentlemen and Ladies.

So Manure are after Cesc!!! ho ho ho

Now if I remember correctly AFC are due 50% off any transfer fee Barca receives for Cesc. So by offering 26million for Cesc means that AFC will get 13million (with a handshake and a smile I presume). But would Barca accept only 13million for Cesc after paying 35 million for him a few years ago? I doubt it. But then only FARCA would accept.

I think that Barca will not sell him for less than 45 million since that would mean that they would get around 22.5 million at least.

And AW would be laughing all the way to the bank for putting back around a third of his transfer warchest in the bank without selling any of his current squad. 😆

    But what would you prefer????

Having the money without raising a finger?

Or getting Cesc back for only the buy back 25million included in the sale contract?

I for one would prefer Cesc.

  88. Scott from Oz says:

    Cesc, for sure.
Him with any of the three strikers we are linked with hand us the League, imo.
    Morning Devil!

  89. potter says:

Ask the question is Cesc better than what we have ?. Then forgetting the past , could we get a player of his ability anywhere else for £ 25 million ?
For me the answers are Yes then No. So if he states he wants to come back – Do the deal.

  90. tsgh says:

    Morning all,

Good news on Joel Campbell… Emma should be pleased 😉

I think both Ryo and J Campbell will go on loan…

  91. Scott from Oz says:

    Agree 100% Potter….get him.
    Ginge, i am happy too.
Campbell can play, he just needs polish.

  92. Scott from Oz says:

    On Cesc, i don’t know….
It is hard to say of his stint at Barca has been all he thought it would.

  93. tsgh says:

😀 Scott, you can’t shoot the poor messenger?

    Good post on Suarez’s situation…

First off, Suarez’s comments about wanting to leave due to his mistreatment by the British press have been largely retracted and replaced with mock surprised statements to the tune that he’s flattered by the interest shown in him by English clubs, in a “maybe someone does love me” sort of gambit. So it seems that the age old departure excuse of wanting to leave your current club to head to another country either because you miss your family, or don’t like the food has been abandoned by Suarez, now he wants to leave for a raft of new reasons.

    Latest Comments
The latest comments are rather more telling than his previous one. In a recent interview reported in The Independent, Suarez said:

If I receive an important offer to progress my career, I will study it. Some clubs have asked about me but I hand questions over to my agent.

This basically says what we have believed all along, Suarez is pandering for a move to a Champions League club, and wants to try and attract attention from any club that fits the bill without being man enough to hand in an actual transfer request.

The latter part of his quote also gives us his current reasoning:

I always want to improve. That’s why I left Ajax for Liverpool. But this club needs to fight to enter the Champions League and, when it doesn’t happen, it damages the morale of any player. So I’ve suffered. It is hard to view the Premier League every week with never a chance of winning it

Oh how you’ve suffered getting paid money every week that some people won’t earn in a decade, and playing football in front of adoring fans, to the chorus of you’ll never walk alone. Our hearts collectively bleed for you Luis!

  94. tsgh says:

    What did CF04 truly want?

… according to what I read from most fans when we are not performing well and comments made when players ask to leave, we are led to believe it is due to winning trophies…

Is it really true? I am a cynic and trust also none of the present day footballers. I believe all players left AFC because of money and no reason at all… Song left for 20k more, VP 100k more… TH14 and PV04 60k more a week…

As I always said CF4 played more minutes than Xavi and Iniesta last season and those are hard facts. his he playing in his preferred position? That is a question only he would know about…

Some will think him playing for Barca and winning was enough but…

  95. devilgunner says:

I think its also according to circumstances Ginginho.

Cesc has a partner who wants to live in London. He has a baby. He wants to be near his family. So he wants to come back to England. I agree its all about money. but also about circumstances.

BDW………PV did not want to leave. he was forced out by AW and the board who accepted a bid of over 14million for him. PV was miffed about it and was angry if I recollect well.

  96. rico says:

Morning Devil, Scott, Potter and all. Goodnight Kev… 😉

You starting to fear the departure of your hard earned cash? 😉

  97. Scott from Oz says:

Suarez nailed it for me when it comes to most modern day players when he said he hands enquiries from clubs to his agent.
Shit, that just tells you it is about money.
If not, he would want a say in where he went.

  98. tsgh says:

Hello the Dev himself… you never told us about what hapened to your 8-legged friend.

Dev on PV04, he might not have wanted to leave when he left because he was becoming injury prone, but we are forgetting from 1999 to 2003 he was always orchestrating a move away from us…

The statement below was made buy PV04 when Overmars left Arsenal….

f you want to know what a really disrespectful statement looks like, here’s a statement that was brought to my attention on Twitter, made by our ‘legend’ Patrick Vieira:

“I need to leave because I want to win more trophies and I just cannot see that happening at Arsenal. Certainly not over the next few years, anyway. Comparing Arsenal to the big clubs in Europe this season is going to be quite ridiculous. I do not honestly see Arsenal finishing in the top five in the league – and you can forget the Champions League.”

“When I told Arsene Wenger I was leaving, he said to me, ‘I have £25million to spend on a few players’. My answer was, ‘Obviously, Mr Wenger, you are not shopping in Harrods. That will only buy you one good player.’ Now I have been proved right. Arsene Wenger has signed two hopeful players who haven’t proved themselves in the Premiership yet. One of them is a boy of 20.

“You can’t compete with the best clubs in Europe by making these kind of signings. Arsene Wenger is an ambitious manager and he knows deep in his heart that he needs five world-class players to compete among the best in Europe. With £25million in the kitty, Arsenal is not a great European club. With that budget they won’t even be among the top 20 clubs in Europe.”

    Does that statement sound familiar?

  99. devilgunner says:

At the end of the day I only want Shrek. Higuain 2nd. someone else 3rd. another 4th. then Ginginho 6th. Adam 7th. Rico 8th. Kev 9th. WATH 10th……….Suarez the 1,000,000 player to sign.

  100. devilgunner says:

    hmmmmm.

sounds like sour grapes from PV04 to me.

ok its granted he knew certain things much more than we do. but while he may have been right he was eventually pushed out like some others.

my eight legged friends (they were two) went down in my stomach with some basel and turmeric sauce. I was not going to have turmeric sauce but the missus insisted and it turned out better than I imagined. With a couple of glasses of Vino as well.

  101. tsgh says:

😀 nice Dev.. glad you enjoyed it…

Be aware you have been struck off lady Rico’s Christmas list with that comment…
