Gervinho set to depart? Back for Capoue & the Sagna/Chamakh saga rolls on…….

Morning all,

Gervais Lombe Yao Kouassi, fondly known as Gervinho….

The man from Ivory Coast divides fan opinion.

I’m no one of his fans, in fact he frustrates the heck out of me.

There is no doubting he has a bit of pace, he can dribble too but when it comes to playing a final ball or taking a shot, he’s been awful. Even the two goals he scored during the second half of the season were very very fortunate…..

The Daily Express claim that Gervinho is wanted by both Fenerbache ย and Marseille, the latter is reported to have made the first move and are involved in preliminary talks with Arsenal about signing the player.

Should Gervinho depart, I think it suggests that Arsene Wenger is changing.

When was the last time he signed a player and after just two years realised he was a disappointment and sold him off ?

I would say that answer is never. Well, maybe Park……

If he goes – let that be a huge lesson for others..

One player he should have been ruthless with isย Marouane Chamakh. What happened to him after he joined us. He breezed in on a freebie with a pretty good goal scoring record, stepped in to replace the injured RvP and scored a good number of important goals early season and then….. It all ended as quick as it begun….

Similar to Arshavin really….

Both promised so so much, yet both failed on so many accounts and both have been more than content to train, take their big fat wages and not really seem to care if they played or not.

Podolski had a bit of a hit and miss season but for his first time playing in the Premier League, I thought he did pretty well. His second season will tell what kind of a player he is. The kind that hides during many games, or the one who is eager to improve on last season.

He’s certainly not fazed by all he talk of Higuan joining, in fact the opposite:

Last season was a good season for me. I scored a lot of goals and made a lots of assists so I was happy.

I came from a small team like Cologne so it was not easy but, hopefully, this year will be better.

It is always good when good players come in –ย I don’t worry about a specific player. And it is certainly not a problem.

I am strong enough and I have qualities. And when good players come in, I will play with good players.

Every season players come in and players go. But I think it is good news if top players come in.

And Higuain is just that, which is why we have to pay big money to get him.

Finally is the long-winded saga over Bacary Sagna, one of the most experienced players we have on or books but one who has had a number of injuries, is getting older and probably wants a final big bumper contract.

But he’s now 30 years old, and Arsene doesn’t give big contracts to players of that age, even the great Dennis Bergkamp didn’t get that but he was so so good, and such a true Arsenal man, he didn’t care. He was hay to go from year to year and let his feet do the talking…

And they did…

Sagna however, may just be tempted by the pounds shillings and pence that PSG could pay him. He has just one year left on his contract, but one year on, when he could leave for free and get a big sum of money elsewhere, he will surely be a less attractive player to sign…

With Carl Jenkinson improving in each game he played and with Bellerin not far behind him, Arsene Wenger may just believe that he can more than fill the right back position without signing a replacement.

Some fans may agree, others will no doubt not be content should that unfold in such a way…

In other news, there are stories suggesting that Arsene Wenger is now looking at Etienne Capoue as an alternative to Fellaini, he’s certainly cheaper.

Many newspapers report that the manager is in talks over a new contract which is all well and good, would be nice to hear that a few players have been signed and sealed first though….

That’s it for another day, enjoy the sunshine…….

  1. Mayor of the Woolwich says:

    Morning Rico.

    We’re patiently waiting.

I think the crazy season’s moving for The Arsenal in a good way. All the ‘deadwoods’ moving out.

Let’s await the ‘fresh’ and ‘better’ arrivals.

  2. Mayor of the Woolwich says:

And, what’s the rumour of Ramsey Swap with Fellaini?

If it materializes, will it be a good move?
I personally don’t want us to lose out on Ramsey, I rate him so high.

  3. Induct says:

Y do we always love selling our players. I won’t support selling Gerv. Even if he doesn’t make d grade on a regular basis. We hav a pretty thin squad compare to other big clubs. Dats y we can’t effectively rotate our players during d thick of d season. We need 25-man squad not d 18 we currently hav. Pls NO SELLING!!!

  4. John simiyu says:

when Gervinho leaves wenger should replace him with able and efficient player, not his usual average ones.go for it Arsene!

  5. MW says:

    Good post
I am concerned though that all the talk is of Higuan when there are other area’s on the pitch that need attention. If we were to sign Hig, that does not mean that we will win the league.
Most of the lads will be back in training as from tomorrow and any new signing should be with us now, not at the end of the transfer window as more last minute desperate signings.

  6. wilcox kevin says:

Is a welcome development but seriously I don’t know wat Mr Wenger is still doing wit players like ramsey in the team he sud be loaned out to prove himself n additions like Capoue n imbula pls n if fabripass is available he sud b welcome back into the team n a defender mayb mbia

  7. rico says:

Very MoW – this week hopefully..

The squad head off on tour on Thursday, I dread IG being on he plane….

  8. Abanas says:

I think Wenger shloud go for Higuain, Fellini, Cesar and likely Williams then next the premiership from the starting of season.

  9. allezkev says:

    Morning Gooners…

Hottest day of the year today, in London. 30’c… I am gonna be broiled… ๐Ÿ™

Morning Rico. Good post boss. Off to read it, ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. allezkev says:

    Bellerin signs new long-term contract.

    Sagna leaves.

    Kinda explains our currant situation.

Out with the ‘Old’, in with the ‘New’…

Might see 2 or 3 promoted from within rather than signing another raft of ‘new deadwoods’…?!

We have Yennaris as well as Bellerin, to compete with Jenkinson….

Capoue might well have been Wenger’s preferred target all along. He might have just let the Fellaini rumours run to cover his true intentions?

  11. allezkev says:

Ha ha Rico, it’s amazing what a Peroni or three can do for your constitution… ๐Ÿ˜‰

I also don’t want to see Ramsey leave…

Get Higuain and Capoue in before the season starts.
Then see where we are at the end of August.
And, if need be, pick up a couple of bargains from La Skint Liga.

  12. Adam says:

    Morning Rico. Excellent post.
Morning Kev. Working today? I’m slouched over the garden table myself, eating a weird looking melon. ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. allezkev says:

Rooney was always a fantasy to me.

Nani, I wouldn’t mind, a definate improvement on Gervinho.

But ManUre are not Arsenal. They will not sell a good player to a rival… And for that I applaud them, their professionalism.
Something our ‘once’ great club should emulate.

  14. rico says:

Come on Ak, this is to be our golden summer ๐Ÿ˜‰

I don’t mind if we get Capoue, so many suggest he’s a beast. Ok Fellaini would be idea for his PL experience but….

I had two on Thursday, the mutts nutts ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. rico says:

    Kel, Gervinho out, Higuain in….

Morning Adam, thank you. You like weird looking things don’t you… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. McRaymonds says:

    Good morning Gunners;

if gev. is sold he shud be replace immediately with quality so we dnt lack when injury blow hit us in the course of the season…

  17. allezkev says:

The Julio Cesar saga seems to have gone very quiet.

Maybe Wenger is reluctant to pay a fee for a player that he could have had on a Free 12 months ago?
Maybe Cesar wants assurances that Wenger isn’t prepared to give?
Maybe Cesar’s financial demands are too high?

Or maybe Wenger isn’t interested in him anymore, but has let the rumours rumble on in order to motivate Chez & Fab?

  18. allezkev says:

    Morning Adam.

Another day for slumping methinks… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes mate, duty calls, but I am putting it off as long as I can.
    I will be driving around in a Mangal… ๐Ÿ˜€

Mangal=Turkish for that big fcuk-pit, where they bbq the grub….

  19. Adam says:

Kev. As coincidence would have it, the melon I am extracting the liquid from, is of Turkish origin.
Imagine how hot that bloke who oversees the flame pit in The Mangal will be later when the raw animal flesh is seared to a golden crisp.
We toasted you in The Ark just the other evening as Mrs Adam devoured a giant grilled Plaice and I mullered a Haddock, with mash and a wally of course ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. allezkev says:

Rico, that Estrada is nice, but Peroni reaches those parts, where other beers fear to tread… ๐Ÿ˜›

Adam, how are the Beatles chords coming along?

Not heard from Rocky in awhile. He’s like the Scarlett Pimpernel..

  21. Adam says:

Mayor Of W. it’s the press and their incorrigible thirst for bollocks.
Kev. Show me a Beatles tune and the chords and I will play it, as long as you sing.
    Bridge Of Sighs too…

  22. rico says:

Or maybe AW is waiting o announce three a once Ak ๐Ÿ˜‰

MoW – goodness knows, probably as we are seen as being desperate ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Yo toad Adam ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Adam says:

It is so quiet today. I guess everyone is gearing up for Andy Murray’s glorious attempt to be the first Scotsman to win the Wimbledon Men’s Singles since Sean Connery. I will be cheering him on with a chilled Irn Bru and a haggis.

  24. kel says:

if gervinho is sold rico i’d prefer we replaced him with a winger, nani for gerv, higuain for bendtner ๐Ÿ˜‰ lol. but as allezkev say’s man-u aint Arsenal they dont sell good players to potential rivals..

  25. Mayor of the Woolwich says:

It’d be really interesting to see how many new faces come in + how many youth players get promoted.

    The team’s hopelessly thin rightnow.

  26. Mayor of the Woolwich says:

Of course, that’s if Yao Gervais and TGSTEL and Sagna also move on, as being rumoured.

  27. rico says:

I won’t Adam, it’s too nice to be indoors… perhaps I will take he TV outside….

Kel, it depends on what AW’s plans are for Ryo I suspect ….

MoW, making way for a few additions…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  28. rico says:

Lets not forget we have already supposed to have made an offer for Grenier, he could be the one to replace Gerv

  29. kel says:

MOW.. the squad is thin for sure no doubt about it, but at least we have trimmed the fat off the squad to the tune of around 400k per wk… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  30. Jay says:

Morning All ,No mention from our colonial friends regarding the trouncing they received yesterday by the Lions. They say good news comes in threes ,so Perhaps Murray can make it a great weekend, folowing the Lions win ,and the removal of Qutada from these shores.

  31. Mayor of the Woolwich says:

    Kel,
the ยฃ400,000 to pay the SHREK and the ROTWEILLER Suarรฉz?

    Another piece from rumour mongers!

  32. Adam says:

Jay. I see him picking the ball up deep in his own half, shrugging off a few tackles and the, beard flowing , laying the ball inside the full back for Gervinho to strike home from an acute angle, 25 yards out.

  33. kel says:

MOW, Higuain (130k), Rooney, (200k) capoue, (70k) it seems so easy to doesn’t it lol, well it is on football manager… ๐Ÿ™‚

  34. bc says:

I think wenger will simply replace the “TEN” with 10. Mannone squillaci djourou santos coquelin denilson arshavin park chamakh bendtner all replaced by martinez boateng miquel yennaris aneke eisfeld gnabry campbell sanogo afobe . Let’s face it only 3 of the “TEN” actually started a league match last season so its jot like they were important players anyway. Hpwever I do believe he will make signings to fill up some space in the 25 man squad. Those signings will then decide which of the youngsters will be sent out on loan.

  35. rico says:

    Top 4 MoW ๐Ÿ™‚

Depends who we sign I’d say. I know that sounds obvious ๐Ÿ˜‰

But if we get 4 class players, the PL may not be beyond us…

    And a cup of course….

  36. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to the Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Rico – A nice summary of what little news is available. It must be hard to write something everday when so little actual news is available. I appreciate your efforts on our behalf. Keep up the good work.

It seems every possible outcome of the Higuain transfer has been taken up by one newspaper or another, so at least one will be right. However, I think Arsene knows it would be wise to have at least one high profile/marquee player signed before the team leaves on their Asian tour. I expect we will see some action early this week.

A number of the posters seem worried about the team shipping so many players out. Most, if not all, of these players are the deadwood that so many have complained about. The likes of Bendtner, Chamakh, Denilson, Djourou and Santos haven’t been part of the team for a season or two. Others such as Arshavin, Gervinho and Squillaci have been on the teamlist but haven’t contributed much, if anything, to the team this past season. So, no real loss with the transfers actual or possible of those players. I think we will see a few of our top prospects coming in before the end of July, but the rest will dribble in over the the rest of or at the end of the window. Arsene will be patient and wait for the teams with little money to put a more realistic valuation on their players or outright panic sell in order to get some new blood in. As Kev mentioned expect some late signings from “La Skint Liga”. I think we will all be pleasantly surprised how far Arsene has made his transfer funds go.

  37. Joaquim moreira says:

    morning all!
    Not good news….
Higuain: 30 mllions Euros for sign for u
Not vey good news for Sagna and Gervinho…

  38. Jay says:

Rico Still no word from the aussies ,have they gone into hiding ? they will be gone forever after we bash them in the Ashes.

  39. rico says:

Morning Cg, thank you and I’ll keep on trying ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m glad we have had the clear out and I don’t think it’s finished yet..

But don’t believe it will be last minute signings, more likely 2/3 announced a one time and quite soon. This week perhaps.

Any we get on DD will be squad players and I wouldn’t be a all surprised if Rooney moved on DD either….

Or has the sunshine gone to my head…..

  40. Scott from Oz says:

Jay, unlike you poms, we never hide from a defeat.
You’d think you guys would be used to it by now lol
I must say, those Welsh lads were pretty impressive last night ๐Ÿ™‚

  41. rico says:

Why not good news re Sagna and Gerv JM?

๐Ÿ™‚ Jay, funny that eh, bring on that little urn I say. Can’t wait…..

  42. Scott from Oz says:

Oh, and on the Ashes…our guys are in the shitter, and it is through their own arrogance…..

  43. Jay says:

Scott we are so used to getting stuffed mate, let us have our moment of glory.even if we did have a few sheepshaggers in the side.

  44. Canadian Gooner says:

Jay – The Aussies may/will be drowning their sorrows and will be in no fit state to post in the House.

  45. rico says:

    That’s ok though JM…

It was the British Lions, they were allowed to be in there, just like Murray is allowed to be British…….

Until he loses, then he’s a Jock ๐Ÿ˜‰

  46. rico says:

Don’t worry Scott, your newly adopted Asian spin bowler might save the day ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†

  47. Scott from Oz says:

No Jay….not making an excuse at all.
These guys have allowed their egos to get the better of them and if they get beaten, it will not through a lack of quality.
We have some sensationally talented players…one of our best crops ever….and if they shut the hell up and just play would beat anyone in the world.
Call them a team of Bendtners ๐Ÿ™‚

  48. Scott from Oz says:

I actually enjoyed the game last night…it was quality.
Our guys put in, did their best but were beaten by a better side.
    No problems.

  49. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – Yes I can see us signing two or three players this month, but I think we will sign two or three more late in the window. Also, I expect some of our Young Guns to be promoted to the first team. Which ones will be determined by their performances on the Asian tour. Then we have the long term Loanees like Campbell, Galindo and Myachi. It will be interesting to see if any, or all, of them go on the Asian tour.

  50. rico says:

This is interesting, Ak mentioned he layer the other day when Coquelin left us to go on loan at Ginters club….

    From LadyArse

According to the Sunday People Arsenal are chasing the Freiburg midfielder Matthias Ginter with claims being made that the fact we gave them Coquelin on loan could aid the deal.

Ginter, who is only 19, has been tracked by Wenger for some time and is generating interest from fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund however the midfielder, who can also play in defence, could be persuaded to come to North London by his club after the Frenchman travelled the other way.

There isnโ€™t really much more information than that being given by the paper so itโ€™s hard to gauge how much truth there is to the rumour.

Ginter has come through the Freiburg academy and has represented Germany at under-18, under-19 and under-21 level.
He made the step up to Freiburgโ€™s first team in January 2012 making his debut from the bench and scoring 18 minutes later from a free kick. The goal meant that he was Freiburgโ€™s youngest ever goalscorer and just two days later, on his 18th birthday, he signed his first professional contract with the club.

Links first appeared between Arsenal and Ginter at the start of June with John Cross of the Mirror claiming a deal would cost Arsenal around ยฃ5m.

  51. rico says:

Didn’t know you had been rough Scott, that’s a bit of a drag….

Me Jay, how could you suggest such a thing, I am deeply hurt….

    ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜›

  52. Canadian Gooner says:

Scott – Just as I was writing about you, you sneek in and post before I can. So much for my smart remarks, redundant now.

Sorry your having trouble shaking a bug. Bad enough being under the weather and seeing your team lose, but not being able to have a pint is a real bugger.

  53. Scott from Oz says:

Just a head cold guys..nothing major.
I had it for around two weeks, was fine for a few days and it has hit again.
    Gotcha CG lol

  54. Scott from Oz says:

Back to the Wallabies…..on their recent form, i thought the Lions would beat us easily an all 3 games, so our guys really raised their game.
They were right in the series til after half time in the third match….not a bad result, i reckon.

  55. udee says:

i wish Arsenal would get the Higuain deal done fast and also get a proper defensive midfielder as well as promote from within to the first team.

  56. Canadian Gooner says:

It has gone very quiet here, so I’m nipping of to bed. Have a great day fellow Gooners. Keep the Faith!

  57. rico says:

I see John Inverdale has joined the likes of Linekar, Chiles, Waddle etc ete…

What a rude arrogant t**t he is after his comments yesterday…..

    Never liked him!

  58. agirlagunner says:

Hello, rico. ๐Ÿ™‚ Another nothing day. ๐Ÿ˜›

But your Andy Pandy is doing well, so far. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  59. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning/evening Agag.
Hi Rico…i am hanging in here.
I will barrack for anyone over Djokovic…i can’t stand him.
I don’t mind Murray, though i must admit i haven’t seen that much of him….i know he isn’t overly popular ๐Ÿ™‚

  60. Scott from Oz says:

Guys, i am reading that Real asked for an extra 2 million on the day of the medical, and we have come back with an extra 1 million…this of course is after an agreement was made!
Any news whether or not this is correct?

  61. nigel tufnel says:

I see the articles that say Madrid are playing dirty and digging in on their set price. I think it is Arsenal who are digging in. This is foolish. We desperately need the player. He is perfect for our system, maybe more so than than cavanis and falcaos who cost double. He is in our range, he is open to joining. But the worst part for me is, i will be so embarassed if we blow it. I think thats a real danger now, mata style. There will be no good plan B. And other top players will still see us as a second tier club. A shame for one of the most valuable sports franchises in the world. This is why i want Usmanov in. We dont need to completely change our philosophy, but maybe adding a couple million to an offer to avoid a ridiculous mistake and snap up a top player that should have been done already.

  62. Scott from Oz says:

Fair enough Nigel, but if we bow to every club selling us a player, we will be known as a soft touch to deal with, and an extra few million here will mean an extra few million every time we like a player.
I believe we must make stand of sorts, but then begrudgingly pay the little extra.
Then, next time a big club wants one of our boys, do the same bloody thing.

  63. Adam says:

I cannot see that RM scenario. In my experience once an agreement has been made, those taking minutes of the meeting ask each party to sign off on that agreement before moving onto the more detailed part of the negotiations.
Having said that, there is always the possibility that one side do not behave like gentlemen.

  64. potter says:

Paying the penalty for Gazidis ‘ injudicious ” Wev’e got money statement . Who opens a poker game saying I have two aces and two jacks.

  65. Scott from Oz says:

Adam, surely you can’t question the ethics of the “gentleman” involved in such dealings ๐Ÿ™‚
Potter, he certainly put the club and especially Wenger in the hot seat with those comments.
Having said that, it is what we, the fans, wanted and probably needed to hear.

  66. rico says:

Hi agag – so far so good..

Scott – go to bed ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sorry, I am busy watching tennis and having to email some sicknote who lives in Oz ๐Ÿ˜‰

  67. rico says:

Hi Nt, I am another who doesn’t believe it’s Afc faffing around, I think it’s the gits in Spain holding out….

That is down to Huguains Dad’s comments….

  68. Scott from Oz says:

Second set done…..third is on the way.
I am off to catch some kip and expect to wake up to some good news, and HOPE to wake up to even better news.
    Murray…good.
    Higuain…better ๐Ÿ™‚
    Night all.

  69. agirlagunner says:

I cannot stand Djokovic either Scott. Don’t like Murray either, but I guess he is a little bit less unlikeable. ๐Ÿ™‚

  70. allezkev says:

Hmm Adam, Haddock, mash and a Wally…

    I can taste it now…

Real Madrid are just a bunch of spivvy Spaniards.

    They have no class.

    Their word is worthless.

Their behaviour is no surprise whatsoever.

Barcelona are cut from the same cloth…

  71. DutchGooner10 says:

    Evenings Gooners,

Seems I missed you all. Had some splendid time on the terraces. Rub and scrub with the tanned lasses. Lots of peddlers.

Rico found some interesting site for you and others who are interested:

    http://www.omlet.co.uk/index.php

    http://www.encyclo.co.uk/

Hoo Hoo Hooray for Murry. Although I do like the fighting spirit Djoko displays.

So we all want the Argentinean? Me personally still has a soft spot for Damaio, the Brazilian just has the feverish Samba I want back in our playing style.

But hey, lets be honest we’re in for 4th spot again. Means the fans A-list can be as long as a roll of toilet paper, the inconvenient truth is; they gonna flush it anyway.

Me old China. Hope you got a fat wallet out of serving this sunny day. My purse is empty buying a round on your behalf.

    Night Night all. See U.

  72. allezkev says:

    I didn’t see Top Gear tonight Rico…

Were they talking about what wonderful drivers London cabbies are?

    I fully subscribe to that view… ๐Ÿ˜€

  73. allezkev says:

So far, eleven players have moved from La Liga clubs to EPL clubs…

I don’t there’s been any going in the opposite direction?

    A sign of the times?!

  74. allezkev says:

I had to chuckle at the reported bid from Arsenal, for Luis Suarez…

    ยฃ30 million!!!

    Are they (reporters) sure… I couldn’t stop laughing…

Maybe it’s a cunning plan that Wenger/Gazides dreamed-up to smoke-out Madrid over the Higuain deal (or no-deal)…?

Maybe Arsenal reasoned that ยฃ30m is big enough to show everyone (fans, Madrid) that they really mean business?
But they knew that it wasn’t enough to tempt Liverpool…

So what if Liverpool had said yes???

Kroneke would have been rushed into hospital with chest pains… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  75. Canadian Gooner says:

Kev – Apparently Levante might take Bendtner off our hands. If so, Viva Espana! Also, so long NB52, don’t let the door hit you in the arse on the way out.

  76. allezkev says:

    Hey, Morning Canuck…

Yeah, I saw that little snippet earlier.

Don’t wanna build my hopes up too much but I have to admit to a new-found fondness for Levante… ๐Ÿ™‚

  77. allezkev says:

Ah, just realised Canuck, it’s probably your Afternoon or Early Evening, over there, ‘On the Range’… ๐Ÿ˜›

  78. allezkev says:

Canuck, it’s getting to my bedtime, so I gotta hit the trail buddy…

I shall remember you in my prayers… ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Goodnight Gooners

  79. rico says:

Ak, they were talking about just that. The black cab was up against cabs from other countries. I didn’t do too well ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Morning all…

  80. Lee says:

Morning Rico, I see your chap won that tennis competition yesterday! ๐Ÿ˜†
When are these signings going to happen??
I see Paulinho was crying when he joined that lot up the road….that’ll fucking teach him!

  81. rico says:

    Morning Lee

He did rather well – quite surprised me really, didn’t think it would be in straight sets…

    How was your run yesterday?

Ha ha re Paulinho, did you see the article suggesting some of their players didn’t know who he was?

  82. rico says:

Gawd knows re the signings, I’m hoping its a case of 3 in on the same day. Today or tomorrow too before they head off on tour…

Be interesting to see if IG travels…..

  83. useroz says:

    Morning all.

If he agrees to a massive pay cut,we’d see NB52 as NB25 (or well, NB19) in whatever new jersey if he isn’t ashamed to advertise his new wage level!

With all of the rest rumours and wheeling dealing, I just believe Wenger is up to his no good and old tricks…no supervision and maverick negotiation. Embarrassing as one of the top clubs really.
And wenger must be reminded of the reason of the deadwood clearance…you bought poor AND you pay dross out of this world; and still some are stuck @ the Emirates and/or unwilling to move…financial prudence my xxx.
