German international wants out, will Arsene move? Two Arsenal players ready to solve attacking concerns?

Morning all.

The Under 21 format is changing this coming season and Jeorge Bird has written an excellent article explaining the changes and the players who are likely to be involved. It’s worth reading if you are interested in the players coming through the Academy.

I’ve been naughty and copied the list of players who will be hoping to impress this coming season, some of course will be hoping to be part of the first team squad when the new campaign kicks off in August, which you can bet on with bet365.

Born 1992-93- Wellington*

Born 1994-95- Macey*, Hayden, Toral, Iliev

Born 1995-96- Kamara

Born 1996-97- Crowley, O’Connor, Moore, Pleguezuelo, Huddart (going on loan), Maitland-Niles, Zelalem

Born 1997-98- Bennacer, Bielik, Da Graca, Hinds, Keto, Mavididi, Reine-Adelaide, Robinson, Johnson, Sheaf, C. Willock, M. Bola, Eyoma, Mourgos

Born 1998-99- McGuane, T. Bola, Dragomir, Fortune, Osei-Tutu, Malen, DaSilva, Pileas, Nketiah

Born 1999-00- Nelson

*= senior player by Premier League + Champions League rules.

It’s hard to believe that Wellington will be 24 years old in January, yet he’s never played for Arsenal, other than a closed-door match against Dagenham & Redbridge where he scored two and set up a third and then later that year, a reserves match against Manchester United when he scored again.

But then it all went wrong for him after the FA backtracked on its initial decision to award Silva his “Special Talent Visa” and off he went on loan for what seems like, forever.

When the Brazilian headed off to Bolton back in August last year, a loan which should in theory be his last, Arsene Wenger said:

He’s absolutely stunning to watch and I believe Bolton will be surprised by his quality.

According to his player profile, Wellington can play right-back, right-wing and left-wing but his last loan spell hardly earned him high praise, mind you, injury and fitness problems didn’t help his cause.

Another player in a similar position to Wellington, albeit three years younger, is Serge Gnabry who last summer headed off to West Brom on loan. The ever delightful Tony Pulis, criticised the youngster publicly saying he wasn’t at the level required to play for the West Midlands club and after played just 12 minutes of football, Arsenal cut the deal short in January. The German was expected to go straight back on loan but Arsenal had other ideas. Gnabry got himself fit and played for the under 21’s, and played well.

With Arsenal desperately in need of a winger or two, will Arsene Wenger be expecting one or both of these players to solve the problem?

After all, he has said that he hopes to bring in just two more players during this transfer window because any more will ‘destabilise your team’ and surely one of those simply has to be a striker…

Finally, Arsene has been bigging up Julian Draxler and apparently, the German wants out of Wolfsburg already. He also reckons the best young talented footballers are French:

At the moment I think most of the young talented players are in France.

‘We speak about (Anthony) Martial, we speak about (Kingsley) Coman, who are still about 20. And I’ve seen a very interesting young talent from Turkey – (Emre) Mor.

‘You have as well some other players like (Leroy) Sane in Germany. It will be very interesting as well to follow what Draxler is doing, he’s still a very young player.’

He’s such a tease isn’t he…..

Have a good Monday guys, good luck to England tonight, Jackie boy is expected to start….

    From last post.

    Morning all .

COPA America Rico !………………….from what I`ve seen of the EURO`s, he`d be better taking a look over the Hackney Marshes !. ?

Happy Summer Solstice to you all……………..the longest day !……………which basically means this is as bad as it gets in waiting for Arsene to buy a striker !.
I prefer the Winter Solstice or January Transfer Window as us Gooners know it………nice short days of waiting for Arsene to buy a striker !. hahaha

Now to read new post ! 🙂

  2. Le Coq Monster says:

    Thanks Rico !

Fcuk !…………didn`t realise that Wellington was that “old” !…………..time to get his boots on !……………..maybe he will be another late developer like Vardy, so another 4 years in the wings !

  3. Le Coq Monster says:

Anyone of an age of changing in the cow sheds over the Hackney Marshes ?………….washing in troughs !…………..those were the days when men were hard !…………..due to the frozen state of their bodies !. hahaha

  4. Le Coq Monster says:

Right, off to give myself a hair cut using the electric doggy clippers !…………they work a treat, but I do have the urge to chase any vechiles which go past my gate afterwards, wee up a lamp post and sniff the postmans butt !. hahaha

Rico. One of the funniest things I have heard during these Euros, apart from Martin Keown’s spiel, has been Pulis co-commentating the other evening. Talk about trying to impress a sceptical public as to his tactical nous. It was a hoot as Pulis described the various formations employed and suggest how he, the craphead Pulis, uses tactics to create teams that are beautiful to watch because of his intellectual superiority. The commentaries have been more entertaining than the football for me.

  6. bradster says:

I always thought he was a striker. didn’t know he could even tackle.
Was touted as next world class star at U/19 level. Played with and rated better than Neymar and Coutinho back then.

  7. rico says:

I just thought he was a winger Brad, didn’t know he could play RB too. Probably badly though… lol

Totts have agreed a deal for Wanyama.. £12 million..

  8. potter says:

People complain about the cold , but cold was Hackney Marshes ,10 years old the wind whipping over the river Lee nowhere to shelter Remembrance Sunday and 2 minutes silence and later break the ice on the troughs and the taps have frozen , your hands are too cold to untie your boots. Cold Really ?
    Happy days.

  9. bradster says:

I wonder what’s going to happen to our keepers, all 3 are playing well internationally.
I still think Cech is starting to look suspect airilly and movement to get up and down to the corners, age perhaps. One on One/ shot stopping is still top class.
Not sure Schez wants to come back, seems happy at Roma and we’ll have to see if Ospina is still happy to sit plank.
Guess Martinez and Illiev will play under 21 and be loaned out again.

  10. Lee says:

Some of these t.v “pundits” are complete fucktards aren’t they?? Neil Lennon reckons Xhaka reminds him of Charlie Adam!! FFS!!

  11. goonster says:

You re right about one thing Adam the level of footie in this year’s tournament is crappy. Increasing the finalists to 24 made no sense to me. I mean who wants to watch Iceland vs Albania?? No offence to both countries but my word I ll sooner gourge my eyes out.

  12. rico says:

Watching Holland is much more interesting Goonie…

Oops, sorry, they are not there are they… 😉

Lee, that’s probably why Bolton sacked him. He clearly has an eye for talent. Not.

  13. goonster says:

Gee rico do you have to kick me in the nuts while am down writhing in pain. I didn’t mention England did i?? Lol or are you part Albanian ???

  14. Le Coq Monster says:

Hahaha Remember it well, Potter !…………….although you were one of the lucky one`s having boots !……..I used icicles as studs on my bear feet !.yes, that poor were we !.

  15. goonster says:

Besides you can’t deny we play the best footie on the continent. Spain is languid and laborious. One time I slept with a peppermint in my mouth while watching those cnuts. Germany is bland and dire. England??? Enough said. Lol.

  16. goonster says:

Howdy LC how are ya?? Are you done digging them holes or still at it??? That’s a lot of holes my good man. What are you trying to do?? Dig your way to China ?

  17. goonster says:

Vardy to stay at leceister, vardy yet to make his mind up, vardy is coming to the arsenal. Man just shove it. Enough already. If he doesn’t want to come then big deal. We ll get someone else plus I have a feeling theo’s going to have a stormer next season ?????? who needs vardy when we have theokolis.

  18. Adam says:

Still, Morata at 61 million, Pogba is a mere 125 million. Brexit on the horizon, Pulis as a commentator alongside Danny Mills and Neil Lennon. Vardy turning Arsenal down (Harold!!). Happy days. 🙂

  19. goonster says:

Rico I don’t remember seeing England at the world Cup in 94? this things happen.lol the French team that boasted of Cantona ginola lama et al didn’t qualify either so there you have it. Sometimes the best teams don’t make it to major tournaments because they want minors to win it. Minors like England ??????maybe it’s your year this year rico. Enjoy mlol

  20. Le Coq Monster says:

Hiya Goonster !…………..Wasn`t digging holes !, was shifting 12 tonnes of sand into a sand school !..the horses were bored, so decided to keep them happy letting them make sand castles !..

So who does your reliable source say we are getting now ? 😀

  21. goonster says:

LC my source just vanished after the Miki deal stalled. Can’t seem to find that bugger but hey le gaffer said we ll get 2 players am sticking with that ? plus xhaka looks a steal already. We could use a tricky winger and a striker and we re done. If we get that Bolton defender too that ll be perfect. Things are looking up LC. Things are looking up.

  22. goonster says:

Plus look around you no one has made any significant signing. Even the ibra deal isn’t finalized yet. So hey happy days like Adam said. Lol

  23. Adam says:

Stan. The defence. What about a defensive player? We really, really need a quality defender with Per slowing alarmingly, Gabriel looking disaster prone and Chambers being so flaky.

  24. Le Coq Monster says:

I reckon it`s all going to kick off once the Euro`s and COPA have finished !
Agree there Adam..desperately need a central defender,……………….and a LB…………………..and a striker………………..and I`d like Mikki !, Reus, Isco, Lewandowski and……………………………………………….tell you what, there is a lot out there, just need to flash the cash !………………….over to you Arsene !.

  25. goonster says:

Adam if we defend well as a team we ll be less vulnerable at the back. I think we did well last season. 3rd or 4th best defense in the league. Come on now. With the addition of xhaka our defense should look considerable better than last season. We need goals Adam. If we kill of teams earlier in the game our defense won’t be on so much pressure. A team whom you just whipped 4.0 in the first half won’t even bother coming out to play you in the second half but if we keep fluffing our lines we embolden the opposition hence why our defense is always all over the place. We need to get a goal scoring midfielder and a striker Adam. A defender won’t do us any good when we need a goal . lol

  26. Adam says:

Stan. Sure, we desperately need striking alternatives but we need a serious central defender too. If you don’t concede then you don’t lose. Statistics mean little to me when I see a simple ball over the top causes such mayhem in our defence.

  27. goonster says:

Reus is injured LC plus dortmund won’t sell him. Miki is now flirting with manure so that’s him off my list. As for mario??? I don’t know what happened to that little magician. He’s not what he used to be. I think he needs to go back to dortmund to find his spark again.

  28. goonster says:

Lol Adam I ll rather score then defend all game long Adam. Like I said we weren’t that bad defensively last season. The only game that stuck out was the 4.0 humiliation by Southampton. You sound like maureen already Adam. Lol.

  29. Adam says:

True Rico. The past decade has been leading up to the point where we have the spine of a good team and the money to move it forward. Add this to the rightful discontent from last season and the awful football we played for most of the time and the time is now. The excuses have run out. Big time. Ask Brudder Lee. 🙂

  30. rico says:

Me neither Adam. They are good friends and after AW’s comments which if true, hardly would have convinced him he was wanted…

  31. goonster says:

Well it’s too late now Adam. He has a 3 year contract waiting for him on his table. Lol looks like we re stuck with him for a looong long time. Cheer up Adam. We could be Brighton hove Albion ???????

  32. Adam says:

Rico. He also has the chance to work under one of the most highly rated coaches in the world. What job could Arsenal have offered him that could compete with that?

  33. potter says:

Arteta has had a year to learn off of Wenger and has probably realised that he will have little input if he stays with us. Under Guardiola he will be listened to as Pep will need his premier league experience to start with.

  34. rico says:

I agree Adam and had Wenger done a bit more last summer, we wouldn’t be needing more than 3 players this transfer window.

My guess is he believes in a few coming through and they’ll step up this summer.

  35. Peter12 says:

Adam has made an important point, CD. We don’t have a second central defender that we can rely on. Gabriel seems up and down in reliability, and Mert (most regrettably) has only his positional capability left otherwise he is now sadly over at Premiership level. Don’t mention Chambers because, sadly again, he certainly doesn’t look good enough at this level. I think he should be released from his misery and be sold to a second or third tier team and cut our losses too.

So we don’t even have a second CD. Any respectable team in any division needs 3 CD in their squad to allow for injuries etc. Of course it is no good to mention Monreal being able to fill in (we don’t want players to simply fill in, we want players whose specialty is that position). Even as a third CD, Monreal doesn’t have the physique or the nouse to te a CD – he was woeful when he played CD. In any case if he become a makeshift CD who takes the LB position vacated by him? Gibbs? No thank you! We need 2 more proper CDs not “not make-dos”. I think it is ridiculous for the fifth richest club in the world to start the season with a single specialist CD, Kos.

By the way, why are there not any strong candidates for this position? Youth or reserve players? It cannot be acceptable that everybody we nurture is a midfielder of some sort. Also, what happened to Bielik – I guess though he too is considered as a midfielder of sorts (defensive maybe?). I think I have a valid question here; why aren’t there anybody coming through the ranks for this position (am I missing something)?

  36. Wavy says:

I wonder if Wenger will say that, “I could’ve bought Wanyama when he was still at Celtic, but I thought him too young.”

You know you’ve heard it all before….bless him.

Afternoon all. Just dropped raining here. Whoopee!

  37. rico says:

    Welcome Peter.

Bielik has been playing in defence for the under 21’s and I guess the next big question is what does AW do with Isaac Hayden who says he prefers to play in midfield but he has so often played in defence.

I actually think Chambers will come good but he needs to be playing regular football and imo, should have been loaned out last season and if rumours are true, he could be going on loan at Southampton this coming season.

Re the midfielders, Arsene seems to like them doesn’t he, we have had so so many who like to play centrally, apart from defensive ones until of late.

  38. Adam says:

Peter. I agree. As the squad is now, factor in a lengthy injury for Kos and we will be in trouble before the season really gets going. This is the problem when you let things slide. Squad deficiencies become compounded through inactivity. Then, declaring a self-imposed rule of a maximum of three players is fine except when you don’t buy any outfield players the previous year and are always catching up.
I really thought Gabriel was going to be great but his performances toward the end of last season were worrying.

  39. Hell Raising Devil says:

    good Afternoon Lovelies and Hunkies.

We have gone from Vardy, Mkhitaryan and now Kante to……..Jovetic (Yawn), Promes (Who) and Draxler (sigh)

    nice boss post

    em sorry……

    Post nice boss

    aw sh*t……

    Nice post boss

  40. Rick says:

    Afternoon Rico and the House.
At last the rain has stopped and the sun is shining.
Rico like you said a excellent article by Jeorge Bird but I think he could be rather fast out of the starting block.
At the moment( I am being told) the format for next season is still under discussion. The EPPP audit has been completed and all clubs have been informed of their category status. With this out of the way it is possible more info could be on the way.

In respect of the EFL trophy we have been invited to play in it the 3 P/L clubs who have not are Burnley Watford and Swansea.
At the moment this is now a very contentious subject and I think some Clubs could decline the invite.

By the way 21 years ago today we signed the great DB and there is a interveiw with him on the player.
    See you Latta

  41. rico says:

    Afternoon Rick and all..

That’s unlike Jeorge, he’s usually spot on.

Dennis, the best thing Rioch did for Arsenal, mind you, apparently Wrighty wanted out because of him..

  42. Joaquim Moreira says:

    afternoon all!
We were linked witha few players but just linked.
Probably they go to others places

  43. Le Coq Monster says:

Six changes to the England team !……………taking a chance ?…………lose and Wales win then England are out and the Spud players have a good rest !……………..doesn`t Woy understand that the Spud players need to die of physical exhaustion !………….honesstly !, he`s a fcuking hopeless Arsenal double agent !.

  44. Hell Raising Devil says:

Good Evening Wico. Nice post Wico. How awe the chicky chicks Wico?

Watching the England game tonight. Wilshewe is playing and even Vawdy is on. Hawwy Kane stawts fwom the bench. I hope that Wilshewe gets Vawdy to scowe with a couple of assists. Then he will wealise how much he stands to gain if he comes to Awsenal.

  45. rico says:

    Evening Devil..

Me too re Hart, the big fella deserved to start if Roy is all for change. Personally, I think he’s made too many changes…

  46. Hell Raising Devil says:

Good mowning Wico, lovelies and hunkies.

England are through…..and France or Germany are on their path.

  47. Hell Raising Devil says:

I saw Aaron’s display against Russia this morning on my laptop.

Imo, AW has the perfect Ozil replacement if he wants to rest the latter. He did so well yesterday….scored and assisted.

Imagine him resting Ozil and the team playing like this……

    Xhaka, Cazorla
    Iwobi, Aaron, Alexis
    Ollie

It would keep Aaron happy as well as he would play in the number 10 position. At the same time he will help AW rotate. and he can still play on the right when Ozil plays.

Yesterday I saw the England game and tbh one can easily see why JW10 gets easily injured in the EPL. I lost count of the times he ran with the ball only to loose it cleanly. In the EPL he will not loose it cleanly as he will be taken out.

Compare him to Elneny……who is the more skillful of the two?? I daresay JW. Yet Elneny is the more tactically astute of the two as his end product is better than JW’s.

Mind you…..it was not Germany, Spain, France or Italy Jack was facing yesterday. It was Slovakia.

  48. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. Another day, another horrible game at Eurotrash. I do feel a little sorry for Jack as I can’t really see what he is doing there.

  49. Lee says:

I thought Jack was average at best last night, looked really unfit and kept losing the ball in possession….. he wasn’t alone in under-performing though!

  50. potter says:

Along with many young Arsenal prospects injury has hampered Jack’s development. I think it may be because of over playing when not physically ready. The same thing happened to Michael Owen , I think it’s bad squad management and because of little or no alternatives they get thrust forwards too soon and come back too quickly.

  51. potter says:

One thing about last night , Was Jack hiding from the ball ? or was it that the other players were not looking for him because he seemed to be getting passed by in moves. When Rooney replaced him ,he was the focal point of developing moves whereas Jack was on the periphery throughout.

  52. Adam says:

Jack is there because of what he might be capable of based on performances from a season or two ago. He hasn’t played at all really during the past season and has neither form nor match
fitness. He looks to be trying too hard to me. He must be a real concern for Arsene.

  53. rico says:

I can’t see where he’ll fit in this coming season, Elneny, Coquelin, Xhaka, Santi, Ramsey should all be ahead of him.. That’s if he’s fit of course..

  54. Lee says:

Joleon Lescott and Andre Townsend’s craniums remind me of Klingon’s swedes………#justsaying!

  55. tsgh says:

    Good morning Rico and all,
Most sensible players will try to keep things simple when they know they are not match fit… but not JW I guess.
