France a waste of time says Arsene, so England have no chance…

Morning all.

I’m not sure how much truth there is in this story, in fact I doubt there’s any really. Our French manager, the one who the FA and it’s cronies have been blaming for years for the demise of the international team, is apparently the same man they want to manage the England team. Not only that, they are prepared to wait for year until his Arsenal contract expires.

Back in 2014, Arsene Wenger was asked about whether he could one day manage the French international side to which he allegedly replied:

As the France coach, there are only two interesting things: the World Cup and the Euros. The rest is a little bit of a waste of time.

He clearly enjoys the day to day stuff at a football club and just getting together with a group of players a few times a year, is not for him and let’s be honest, if he doesn’t want to manage his own international football team which boasts a few top class players, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t want to manage a bunch of over-rated, overpaid Englishman. No, Arsene will stay at Arsenal and for a few years yet I feel. That is if this upcoming season is a good one and by that I don’t necessarily mean winning the league etc, but the way Arsenal play.

Arsene and Arsenal need a good transfer window then get this group playing some good football again. None of the tippy tappy stuff, let’s have some pace, clinical finishing and a strong organised defensive unit. In other words, everything England isn’t and as much as it pains me to say, too many times last season, Arsenal played like England did against Iceland.

Granit Xhaka will bring something different to our midfield but I wonder who he’ll pair up with. Cazorla, Elneny or Coquelin? What about Ramsey? If he continues to show the kind of form he’s shown for Wales, he’ll be tough to leave out won’t he? Wilshere, well I just don’t and can’t see where he’ll fit in. He was awful for England but to be fair on him, he should never have been selected in the first place.

The defence still worries me. Koscielny, Merts, Gabriel and then Chambers – that’s far from being a strong defence and one injury to Bellerin and we are back to Debuchy if he stays which I doubt very much he will. Up front, well we’ve all gone on about that long enough now and there’s hope that Arsene Wenger is eyeing a striker otherwise why go for Vardy?

The COPA America is over, the Euros aren’t far from following suit and the transfer window officially opens in a couple of days time so hopefully, Arsene will get moving and sort the squad out.

In the meantime, keep hitting that F5 button on NewsNow and hope we get a surprise or four!

Have a good Wednesday guys…

With you Rico……………we all love an attacking skillful hero up front, but do not forget the defense !.
I hope Wenger starts to get a move on, it is not a good sign when he gets in very early for Xhaka !………this tells me obviously he is struggling elsewher otherwise it would/should have been done early as well !……………….he`s dragging his heels like a drag queen and that usually ends up with a panic buy or loan !
I wouldn`t say he was hesitant, but more a stubborn bastard when it comes to paying that little bit more !…………he seems to be ignorant to the fact that we are rolling in it, we could afford to stuff 60,000 duvets full of £50 notes for a cold November night at the Emirates to keep the fans warm !………when Palace are bidding over £30M+ for a player !………. it`s time for Wenger to bid £60M+s for some top quality !…………………….£60M is the new £30M………………I like to say that as I`m 60 and have the body of a 30 year old…………………….and he`s not having it back !

    Afternoon All
Xhaka looks the right kind to improve the mid
Who plays with him you ask Rico?
will it be another holder if it is.
His mobile will be clocking up some tariff
    Oxo,Walnut,Jack,Santi.Awobi,Cambell
all feel they have a future in there.
    Walnut more wide of coarse.
    After Flamoney,Arteta and tommy anouncements
Wenger was quick to get Xhaka in.

So is it now a question of who go’s next
    before he makes anymore signing’s.
Wenger has a habit of trying to sign easy targets
you know…match this price and his yours.
which mostly turnout to be the longest saga’s
    in football history.
So it’s likely to be either an unknown a
contract small print error or an agent
    teasing him again.

Good Morning to The Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Rico – An interesting article, food for thought.

I think the transfer window will start to heat up after after Friday and then really take off at the conclusion of the Euros.

No BPL team has concluded many deals as yet and Conte is still busy at the Euros. It all seems very touchy feely right now, with clubs just sounding each other out on the possible availability of their players and the sticker price. Once a few of the mega deals get done and the transfer fees are injected into the market it will start to pick up steam.

The Xhaka deal and the Vardy saga seems to indicate that Arsene is trying to get business done early for a change. With Maureen Yo, Conte, et al having large sums to spend it might be best to buy early.

Maureen wont hesitate to spend over the odds to get the players he wants and that will probably help inflate the market. One saving grace for us is that Chelski, Liverfool and ManUre aren’t in the Champions League this season and may have to pay higher wages to attract players. The drop in the pound adds an element of uncertainty to the market.

  4. Canadian Gooner says:

As for who plays at the back alongside Granit, I think that depends on the preseason game performances. I don’t think Arsene will throw him in at the deep end, but rather ease him in over the first couple of months.

I think we’ll see a lot of Le Coq, Rambo and Santi to start the season.

  5. rico says:

I too think one or two could be on the move Fred, surely they have to be to allow new players to come in, including those from the under 21’s who might now get their chance…

  6. rico says:

Afternoon Cg. I agree, could get exciting after he Euros final… 😉

Hope it is for Arsenal fans, that’s for sure…

  7. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – Another fly in the ointment, especially for teams like Abu Dhabi Citeh, is the ‘homegrown player requirement. They may buy some big stars, but they are also going to have to get some ‘English’ players. That could see their prices sky rocket and promising young players from the lower divisions could see themselves bought by big teams, but have little or no playing time. They might be warehoused like Maureen did at Chelski during his first period there.

If so, that will be another thing for the FA to complain about. Meanwhile the players’ development will stall. So much for the next generation of England internationals.

  8. rico says:

Good point Cg. At least we have a few Englsih players coming through..

    🙂 Adam, silly me, I forgot he’s rubbish….

  9. Canadian Gooner says:

Pogba may or may not be rubbish, but he does seem to be flavour of the window. I’m sure some club will pay an inflated price for him. Whether he comes good or turns into another Mario Balotelli we’ll have to wait and see.

As for Mario, it will be interesting to see how much of a loss the Dippers take on him.

  10. rico says:

I really like him Cg, he can defence into attack in a split second. I really hope he doesn’t come to the PL, unless it’s to us…

  11. Canadian Gooner says:

Adam – “…All transfer fees seem inflated to me.” – I agree.

This season Arsenal made the most from the Premier League’s TV and commercial deals, abot 100 million pounds. It has been speculated that with the new TV deal next season the lowest team in the BPL will make that much. When the likes of Crystal palace, Bournemoth and Sunderland have that sort of money, what will that do to the market?

  12. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – We’re already overstocked in the midfield and I don’t see Arsene/Arsenal paying his fees. Let Maureen struggle to work with his ego; one big head to another.

  13. frednerk says:

So maybe we have to unload first.
Rumours are about Oxo,Walnut and even jack
going……….. we know how much for a bit of English
or has the price changed now.
Is Arry Worth sorry Kane still valued at
80 mil now after England getting beat by a
    bunch of so and Son’s,
Thank god we only had half fit Jack cameoing
can you imagine the stick if we had
5 players in that team the other night.
How come the media have left them alone.

  14. Lee says:

Wenger would be perfect for the England job, never need make another transfer and judge him every 2 years….

  15. allezkev says:

I’d like to see Boris Johnson get the England job….

At least we could all have a bit of a laugh when we next get knocked out…

Failing that Bob Magabe is available…

  16. Joaquim Moreira says:

Higuain ? good… but the media write Lacazzette. he is good player in my opinion.
    Central back? The Iceland man
    full backs… Rodriguez
or we waiting again for the end of August…

My new name. Jóáquimir Móreiráson 🙂

  17. Obi says:

Lee @3:39 lol, don’t you mean every 10 years? On Pogba, he may be rubbish or
not, but Imagine him and Ramsey on the same team. At the rate they
both give away the ball – add in Sanchez – no defense will be safe. Before Pogba for 80m how
about: Verratti, Koke, Kroos, Aranguiz, Hamsik, Willian, Mascherano, Vidal, Moderic
Di Rossi, Rakitic, Pastore, Mkhitaryan, Reus, Mahrez, just to name but a few – all
under 80m and 200k p.w. Imho, Pogba is an average player with a lot of hype. Xhaka is
a better player (statistically and by observation) than Pogba.

  18. Obi says:

Rico @5:44, France v Ireland lol. I have watched most Juve games in the last 3 years because Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Chiellini , Sandro and Asamoah are among my must watch players. Pogba imho, has not been good in the many games I have watched. Is he spectacular? yes. But in all honesty what is the difference between Pogba, Willian or even Kante – who just had 1 very good year, in terms of skills and ball intelligence? He struggles with discipline structure, freelances most of the time and exposes defenders with his giveaways. Pogba to me is just a little above Barkley if not the same.

  19. Joaquim Moreira says:

it depends what you need for the midfield.
    There are completely different players
    Totts wants the Iceland defender?

  20. Rick says:

    Evening Rico and the House

Kev I am hearing the U21 league will be known as the Premier League 2 and will be a u23 league as from next season.
More info will be made known “Shortly ??”
Lot of loans made today but at the moment none from us.
One of them George Dobson to Walsall season long

  21. Lee says:

Morning Rico… yeah these transfer numbers that are being banded about are ludicrous, well almost as ludicrous as Raheem Sterling’s jewel encrusted bathroom sink!!!

  22. Wavy says:

Wenger likes to buy from Poundland!

Morning all. Sunny start to the day. Not seen it for a while.

  23. Le Coq Monster says:

    Morning all

I`m afraid Rico that with all the money now coming into football ie TV deal and big sponsoring, that like I said yesterday…… £60M is the new £30M !…………..there will be some bargains out there and in that I mean Mkhityran for just under £30M…………..which is the new £15M !. 😀

  24. Lee says:

Suarez would of been great business at £50m a few seasons ago….. hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess!!

  25. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. I would say that the deal for Hazard, bearing in mind that Morata has been branded as less good than Bendtner, would be great business for them.

  26. rico says:

    Morning wavy, LC and Adam.

I agree Lc, it’s still absurd though..

🙂 Adam, perhaps people will change their mind once he arrives at the neighbours and scores against us. Although Merts should keep him quiet..
