Five year contract agreed?

Morning all.

Eberechi Eze, Morgan Rogers and Noni Madueke have been in the Arsenal news of late but as reported yesterday by The Athletic, it seems personal terms have been agreed with the Chelsea man. Just this morning, Fabrizio Romano has suggested a five year contract has been agreed too.

He might be English but he’s not considered homegrown as far as the rules go because he left England to play in Holland at 16 years old. Bonkers in my opinion, he was born in Barnet!

If someone asked me which winger I’d like to see Arsenal sign, he’d not be on my list but hey, I’m a fan not a scout or data nerd.

Yes, he’d be another Chelsea cast off but let’s be honest here, that club signs players like you and I buy pints of milk so perhaps we shouldn’t let that cloud our judgement. One of his highlights of last season was his 14 minute hat trick against Wolves. The 23-year-old is a direct dribbler who thrives in one-versus-one situations and is able to play on either flank, with the majority of his minutes coming down the right wing. (The Athletic) I’m sure his ability to play on the left and right plays a part in Arsenal’s interest in him. Plus, he’s quick, strong and isn’t afraid to run at defenders. Music to my ears.

But let’s see what unfolds as I’ve read about Arsenal agreeing personal terms with a number of players this summer but as yet, only Kepa has signed on the dotted line. We need some positive news from the club which in my opinion means a striker, a midfielder, a winger plus one or two others through the door and soon. Soon because pre season is just around the corner..

We also need to hear that Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri and William Saliba have signed new contracts. Chelsea are sniffing around Nwaneri apparently but as already suggested, that club sniffs around many players. Despite the negative headlines, no doubt in attempt to upset fans, I’m pretty sure our young Englishman will soon put pen to paper, if he hasn’t already. Let’s not forget though, he’s still on his summer holiday after helping England win the Under 21 European Championship.

Arsenal have added two more pre season fixtures to their calendar, both of which will be played at The Emirates Stadium. The first is on the 6th August against Villarreal at 6pm, the second is against Spanish side Athletic Club in this year’s Emirates Cup.

Anyway, if Arsenal sign Madueke, will you be happy?

Arsenal seems to be obsessed with signing Chelsea off-casts! It’s all getting very boring now: No9, Zubimendi, Noorgard, Rodrygo.
Am betting on: ArsenalNIL. Better odds.

  2. Al m says:

Madueke would be a big disappointment. Supposedly looking at top lin talent Williams Rodygo Eze and we plump for someone who can’t even hold down a start at the Chavs.
We really are an do shopper

  3. rico says:

Morning Cicero, I think the general consensus would be no thanks.

Must say, this transfer window has so far been an absolute disappointment. We’re so slow as a club to get deals done it’s almost embarrassing. Pre season looms large, new players should be in and ready to be involved.

Just watched his advert video and did I see anything that differed to the abilities of Saka , Nwaneri and Martinelli ? Not really .
What I did see was a different style of play where the ball was played quickly into space and allowed him to be direct.
I wonder how he would fare against the proverbial low block that is the system employed against us .
We are far more likely to build slowly and allow the retreating defence time to block the space that he will need to break into.
The more that I watch the way we play , the more I am convinced that our problems are of our own making . Our players are all capable of being effective , it’s the way we build back to front that creates the problem .

  5. rico says:

Sorry about the adverts, darned things are everywhere these days.

You’ll be very surprised to hear I agree with you Potter.

Our approach is ponderous, slow and imo, negative, yet we have a squad full of talented players. We shoot ourselves in the foot because we faff around at the back as if to say to the opposition, we’ll go forward when you’re all back ready for us.

More of the same this season and I think calls for change will get louder.

  6. rico says:

Blackburn Rovers have rejected a £1 million bid from Arsenal for young attacker Igor Tyjon, who has been of interest to Mikel Arteta’s side for some time…

  7. potter says:

I am afraid that I also point the finger at Odegaard who seems incapable of playing one touch football . His tendency to take a touch to control and then look around to see his defence splitting pass generally means that Saka is doubled up on and as that’s his first port of call the rest of the attack have made their runs and have come to a stop.
It’s only when you are in the stadium that you see the whole picture , you see movement off the ball and then you see him turning in circles and laying it off 2 yards away .
    He frustrates me.

  8. rico says:

Me too, I sure hope he improves this coming season and if he doesn’t, Arteta has the balls to drop him.

We need forward passing not impressions of Wonder Woman, who for anyone too young, needed three turns before working her magic…

  9. Aussie Geoff says:

    afternoon Rico and all.
Is it the players fault that we are not more of an attacking team or the managers, as I said yesterday I reckon Arteta is a defensive style manager more than an attacking one

  10. Aussie Geoff says:

I noticed a few stories popping up now that Ethan Nwaneri wants out due to lack of games and Chelsea are interested in him

  11. potter says:

That’s been doing the rounds coupled with the Madueke rumour , Chelsea sites are saying £50 million for Madueke and £ 20 million for Nwaneri . So we get theirs and they get ours plus £ 30 million .
Not in my book but there you go .

  12. rico says:

Afternoon Geoff, I’m sure it’s little more than mischief making.

Nwaneri will see his chances would be less at Chelsea with the 11 players on their books. He did an interview not long ago which suggested he’s 100% Arsenal…

  13. Carmelsson says:

    Good afternoon everyone

Just read the post now. Good read boss

Noni??? His name should be Nono. Nononono for me. Was never on my wish list even though he is English. Very weird that he does not qualify as homegrown. I always thought that being English, born in England and lived your childhood and early adolescence in England makes you home grown.

If we sign Nono where does that leave Nwaneri? And does that mean that Arsenal will not be buying any other winger??

Just read this as well……Arsenal are close agreeing a fee with Sporting for Viktor Gyökeres.
A large delegation from the Gunners arrived at Alvalade late on Friday afternoon to make a breakthrough.
£56m fixed fee with add-ons of up to £8m-£13m.
    [@cnnportugal]

AND FINALLY………………………..Arsenal officially announce their second signing of the summer.
Martin Zubimendi joins the Gunners on a five-year-deal for a fee of just over £50million.
Martin Zubimendi: “I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me. They have shown their potential recently and the best is yet to come.
“This is a huge moment in my career. It’s the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are.”

  14. Carmelsson says:

Yep exactly Cicero. We go so slow with regards transfers that we would lose a snail race if one existed.

Then again remember that the tortoise won the race against the hare.

    So there you have it

  15. Cicero says:

Uefa have fined Chelsea up to £80 million for financial irregularities and banned them from registering any new players for Uefa competitions ie Champions league or Europa leagues.

  16. Carmelsson says:

…..banned them from registering any new players for Uefa competitions ie Champions league or Europa leagues.

Cicero, is that for the coming season or indefinitely??

With that sanction is the equivalent of new players signing for Chelsea knowing fully well that they are like a club not competing in Europe.

  17. allezkev says:

Oh my days, I come on here to read some positivity and it’s moan moan moan… 😁

Well I’m pedantic so I’m going to disagree with the lot of ya… 😃

  18. allezkev says:

I saw Madueke a couple of years ago and thought he looked dangerous, tall, lithe and quite tricky, I thought his approach work was unorthodox but lacked a cutting edge, he can go both ways and against a low block could be what we’re now looking at, a change of policy(see Eze).

Madueke is quick, strong and to me has the potential to be a top player – and so wouldn’t be the first top player not to cut it at the mental institute that is the Bridge.

Liverpool have one of those whilst another has just left Man City!

Not happy about the fee but a lot of people weren’t happy about the fee we paid for Ben White and Kai Havertz – who in my opinion have been value for money – so I’ll just roll with the transfer fee and trust in the process.

Anyway, you can all carry on grumbling now… 😉

  19. allezkev says:

Cicero, that is positive news but I can’t imagine that Chelsea will just accept all of that UEFA stuff without a legal appeal of some description.

  20. rico says:

Doesn’t matter for Chelsea does it? They’ve already signed lots of players.

What they need is an embargo on sales, that’ll have an impact, a huge one.

  21. Cicero says:

DG, the coming season but if they don’t make significant improvements in finacial terms, then the following season too.

Something like £60 million of the fine has been deferred for the coming season, but can be activated if Uefa are not satisfied that sufficient progress has been made.

Cricket has resumed, England 110 for 5, 498 behind five wickets remain. ☹

  22. potter says:

I like a good moan especially when the wife has me working building fences and pick axing , Shouldn’t be doing it at my age . It’s either 40 degrees and the first cooler day we get . It’s bloody raining.

  23. potter says:

We need a few fence panels erecting Potter if you fancy a trip down south .

It’s easy apparently …………….., Just ask my wife

  24. potter says:

I hear they need some higher fence panels at R A F Marham Potter. 😉

Have we still got jump jets ?

  25. Cicero says:

    I used Google translate

The set price by the lion administration for the striker’s exit, 80 million euros, could be through realistic achievement variables. 70 million fixed plus 10 in variables, for example. Lions are confident of the presentation of the Swedish international on Monday. It is 80 million euros that Arsenal knows Sporting is asking to let Gyokeres go. But the established doubt is about how the Londoners, or any other club interested in signing the 27-year-old striker, can convince the green and whites for the transfer: if the lions only accept the amount in full or if they admit bonuses to reach that figure. According to data collected by A BOLA, bonuses are accepted. In summary, if someone approaches the Sporting administration with 80 million, they could take the player immediately; if, for example, they only have 70 million available, then they could try to reach the target by including realistic bonuses that allow Sporting to have some security. which at the end of the day sells the Swedish international’s pass for the amount that this summer he deemed fair.

  26. potter says:

That’s according to A Bola, but its in Portuguese. Perhaps J M could translate it for us.

Seems that Sporting are willing to accept terms on the deal providing that they get their full amount 80 million euros in the long run.

That’s if you can trust google translate

  27. Cicero says:

I guess that makes sense, we can get him for seventy million euros plus ten million in performance bonuses.

It could all be signed sealed tomorrow.

  28. allezkev says:

I used to be a dab hand at erecting concrete posts Rico, but it’s a two-man job and my old workmate who helped me back in the day doesn’t have the wherewithal to get the posts up anymore.

(I’m trying not to trigger anyone)

  29. potter says:

In any case, no formal proposal has yet arrived at Alvalade, although this is a step that requires caution, since on July 1st a clause became active that obliges the Sporting SAD to compensate Gyokeres’ representatives with 10 percent of any offer equal to or greater than 60 million euros, if it is rejected.

It is therefore possible that in the next few hours developments will emerge that could definitively unblock a deal that seems doomed to be consummated.

la goes on to say that “”

  30. rico says:

Don’t know what to say to that Kev. 😜

Whatever the cost for Gyokeres, a top striker was never going to be cheap..
