Five points off, can Arsenal close them down. Forster spares Saints from a battering…

Morning all.

That was a poor two points dropped last night. Yet again we had chances, many chances to win the game but as so often of late, either a keeper denies us or the final shot/header is simply not good enough.

Arsenal are on a rotten run and from top spot, we are back to fourth, but all is not lost, not just yet anyway because any time soon, our shots on goal have to start going in.

Having now watched a few highlights, it’s quite difficult to tell what Lee Mason believes to be a foul. Last night it looked like if a player in red and white makes a tackle, foul but a player in green, it’s fine. He really is a bad referee. Far too many tackles went unnoticed and in Romeu Vidal’s case, unpunished. Wanyama was quite fortunate too I’d say.

Regardless, one shouldn’t hide behind his dreadful decision making for us not winning the match as the players should have managed that on their own. To be fair, but for Forster and some really shoddy finishing, they would have.

Arsene Wenger:

You expect their keeper to have a good game but I believe as well we had very poor finishing. It’s difficult to find a player in our team basically who had no chances today.

We came out with a 0-0, with the experience we have in our team, that’s disappointing. It’s frustrating because we put a lot of energy into a game like that. We created a lot of chances of top quality and couldn’t finish.

I think we have to look at ourselves and start to finish with a bit more conviction. The way we have took our chances was not good enough and that’s why we dropped two points.

What is terrible is that our performances are not bad. That is worrying because with the quality of the performances we had, we didn’t take the points and that’s very difficult for the players to take as well.

It’s hard for the fans too watching so many chances in front of goal go begging, especially when dropped points are the outcome because right now, other clubs like City and Leicester are starting to pull away. Both won away from home last night, as did the neighbours who will no doubt be even more noisy after leapfrogging us on goal difference after their win.

The transfer window is closed so the players we have are it so to put an end to this dreadful run, something has to change. Mental approach, Arsene’s pre-match chat, his tactics or something else, I don’t know but before the team head off to Bournemouth on Sunday, from somewhere needs to come an injection of confidence.

And that has to come from the manager!

Five points to chase down, It’s a tough task, but we can do it. Can’t we?

Racking up the draws like nobodies business.

Arsene must have been getting nose bleeds being that high up the table for a few weeks.

  2. scottfromoz says:

Maybe this does all come down to having a truly world class striker, I don’t know, but of this I am sure-if Ozils second one on one chance falls to Giroud, he goes with head and scores.
Luck is against us, but with the amount if chances we had, luck should play no part.
    Mason is just disgraceful.
    Morning all.

    Morning All…

Despite his awful form, I would start Walcott at Bournmouth and drop Giroud…

We need a different approach and Bournmouth will attack us. We need pace and movement up front, Alexis, Walcotg and Campbell…

Of course, Wenger being a Luddite will obviously start Giroud…

    Morning Rico…

  4. Lee says:

“If you knew a world-class striker who could have strengthened our team, you should have told me before the transfer deadline was over.

They do not walk in the street and say ‘please, here is a world-class striker, can you take me?’

They are all at big clubs and are under contract.

    There were none available.

We have Walcott, we have Giroud, we have Ozil, we have Alexis, we have Welbeck, who is coming back.

If tonight we think a miracle man could have scored the goal for us… I think it’s better we think how can we score the goals with the players we have. We can score goals, we have shown that before.”

    Wenger.

  5. Lee says:

That’s from a bloke that didn’t know Charlie Austin (not saying he’s world class) was for sale………

    Is Elneny world class??

The bloke is losing his marbles!

  6. bradster says:

So that’s our 3 hoodoo teams out the way in Chelsea, Stoke and Southampton. We should be confident for the rest of the games.
That back 4 needs to practice together and start communicating. Kos needs to step up as the senior and command the defence.

I’m more concerned about our midfield kev. The Flamini/Ramsey combo is not working. Perhaps Ramsey/Coq might work.

  7. Kel says:

Might as well play Elneny upfront kev as the others are fuckin useless Walcott being the worst of the lot.

Nice post rico, 5 pts can’t we? Imo nah this team just hasn’t got the fighting mentality in it. They’re a bunch of softies tbh.

  8. tsgh says:

AW is right on the availability of strikers though imho…

Most teams have 1 striker now. Even the spuddies that Arsenal fans are now fearing/lauding have only 1 striker but have midfielders who can score goals.

Unfortunately with the system we are playing we are in efficient and the chances are falling to the wrong players at the wrong time…

  9. Kel says:

Ts I don’t think Alexis will have that dip in form you suggested happens this time of year… that usually happens as he is normally burnt out, the guy has just had 10 or 12 games off so if anything he’s about to light up again imo.

Unfortunately to late for us tho imo.

  10. tsgh says:

Fans hated MA08 for being slow but with him at least the team scored consistently apart from the odd blip…
The team had an identity; the only think lacking was the availability of our better players in the deciding part of the season.

We need a tactically aware midfielder. SC19 is the only 1 we have now. Pjanic or Imbula or Sissoko need adding.

  11. Lee says:

“AW is right on the availability of strikers though imho…” Aubameyang or Batshuayi wouldn’t of helped us out this season????

  12. tsgh says:

You have a point Kel. Fingers crossed he starts scoring because OG12 is due his 7 goal barren run too…

Unfortunately, AS17 at Udinese and Barca even as a bit part player also went through that form…

  13. tsgh says:

Looking back AW has only bought 2 proper DM in the 19 or so years with us…; I will say Grimandi and Edu.

PV09 was a CAM at Milan before he joined us.

Gilberto was a CAM until a year before he joined us. Dunga turned him into a DM for the world cup.According to Dunga, Silva could think on the pitch and so he turned him into a DM.

Petit was a LB or CB before he joined us.

Flamini was CAM at OM at youth level.

Diaby was a no.10 or CAM at youth level

Le Coq was a CAM when he joined us. He also played more times as a FB as well and winger.

  14. Lewis says:

    Squad analysis:

    Goal Keepers:

    Cech – World class
    Ospina – Decent Back up
    Szchzesny – Sell.

    No additions needed.

    Defenders:

    Bellerin – First team quality
    Chambers – Decent Back up
    Nacho – First team quality
    Gibbs – Decent back up
Merts – Average – Needs replacing
    Kos – First Team quality
Gabriel – Decent back up (has pontential)

    Top Centre back needed.

    Midfield:

    Ozil – World Class
    Ramsey – First team quality
    Santi – First team quality
    Coq – First team quality
    Elneny – Not seen enough
Flamini – Not good enough – get rid
Rosicky – Perma crock – get rid
Arteta – Perma crock – get rid
Wilshere – Perma crock – Keep but no new contract until fitness proven
    Oxlade – Decent back up

What we’ve needed for 10 f**king years, some midfield muscle and a couple more bodies to fill the departing players.

    Forwards:

    Giroud – Decent back up
Theo – Average Back up – sell
    Alexis – World Class
Welbeck – Decent back up – Needs to prove fitness
    Campbell – Decent back up

    Top forward needed.

This is just my opinion and some will likely disagree but a simple overview of our squad shows where the deficiencies lie. It does not take f**king rocket scientist to see what we needed. He won’t get a better chance than this season to win the title and he’s blowing it.

  15. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good morning lovelies and hunkies.

What can I say? We had enough chances to win three games. The approach was good enough but poor finishing plus good goalkeeper saw a blank.

I just don’t get it why Forster, Buhland and all keepers have motm against us written all over them, yet a stinker against those around us.

Elneny did not play for one reason….since against Burnley he had 4 long range shots AW decided that until that is coached out of him he should not play again.

  16. tsgh says:

Lee- PEA is not an out and out striker though. he is very similar to Theo. He is African as well; reminder for those not keen on African players btw. 😉

Batshuayi I rate highly but is he a one season wonder? Its all hypothetical.

Could a 22 y.o join straight away from ligue Un and start scoring? The records show that is very unlikely.

We should have bought someone like Rhodes or even Berahino. Its just AW may not see the value in spending £30m on him. And as he is not match fit we can all guess…

  17. Joaquim Moreira says:

Not play with Giroud? It’s the only one who shoot with the head and the feet and fight with the defenders
TW, for instance, lurk behind the defenses and never is where he should be
Did you forget the game against Chlesea? After Giroud out, we were played footbal without goals
We are ina a bad fit, tired and our confidence level is very down. The scores against Liverpool first and special Chelsea second, were crucial.

  18. Lewis says:

Who of our loanees and youngsters deserves a chance in the first team?

Akpom, Iwobi, Maitland-Niles, Toral, Hayden, to my mind could all do a job here.

They can’t do much worse that some of the dross we’re having to suffer at the moment.

  19. tsgh says:

Lewis- Maitland-Niles is the one who will bring something different to the team.

Toral is special but is no different to the pretentious no.10s we have in our squad. imho.

  20. Kel says:

Lewis I completely agree with your analysis.. except for one part…

he won’t get a better chance than this season to win the title and he’s blowing it…..

IMHO he has just blown it.

  21. tsgh says:

look at Batshuayi closely and he also bottles it against top teams. Ok he is 22 y.o but his goals have come against teams below OM apart from this season surprises Angers and Caen.

    Snap may disagree or have a view on above;

    🙂 Lewis.

I will say lets keep him. He will come back better. He got golden gloves with Cech 2 seasons ago if I recall…

Talking about goalie’s if Cech has saved us 10 points this season then the team is seriously in trouble.

All a myth re Cech contribution imho. Our points this season is no better than last season but most fans will say last season was disastrous.

  22. Lee says:

“Lee- PEA is not an out and out striker though. he is very similar to Theo”

    PEA :- 84 games 49 goals
    Walcott :- 224 games 53 goals

Well he pisses all over Theo, I also read 53 PL players have scored more goals than Walcott, great bit of management putting him on £140k pw……..

  23. scottfromoz says:

Ok, so it seems Wenger said to MASON “it’s always the same with you”, and he was right.
The Dutchman instigated the sort between him self and Wenger by replying “no, it’s always the same with you”.
    There you have it.
Funny how things are twisted to suit someone’s viewpoint…..Koemans was merely defending himself, yet it was he who intervened in something he had no part in.
It only takes one person to BS, and then it’s repeated all over the place.

  24. tsgh says:

Midfield 3 of Le Coq, Elneny and Ramsey.

Ozil on RHS, AS17 on LHS plus OG12 at the spearhead.

That is how we should line up against Barca as weel if SC19 is not back. saying that our midfield 3 will be tactically naive.

At the top level you need players who can think. Players who can change things subtly before half time…

  25. rico says:

Even though AW publicly said that Ramsey needs to concentrate on the defensive side of his game, he doesn’t..

Why hasn’t AW done something about it, after all, it’s is job…. Ramsey should know better too, especially if he wants to get to Spain… 😉

  26. Lewis says:

True TS, but I’d rather have them taking up the squad positions than the dead wood Arsene like to fill them with.

  27. tsgh says:

Dev agree there. loads of the players are punching above their weight. AW gets the best out of the lot of them.

AS17 is playing the best he has ever played. Is it due to AW or just the player.
    Ozil the same…

Barca/RM turned down (initially) the chance to sign Sc19 even though on paper he was tailore-made for one of them.

Alonso could have joined us if we wanted but fans would have said he is too old. Oddly he went in there and displaced fans favourite Javier Martinez at BM

Imbula could have been bought 2 seasosn ago but he would have taken up JW10’s place as DM so we did not go for him…

The moral of the point is even if we had 2 Le coq’s in this team we will not win the title because they wont be tactically astute enough…

  28. Lee says:

Mason wasn’t to blame for not signing a single outfield player was he?

Wenger is holding the club back time to move on….

  29. scottfromoz says:

I asked a while back how critics were right when suggesting (a) Wenger wasn’t getting the best out of our players and (b) Wenger hadn’t bought good enough players.
Especially when we keep finishing top 4 🙂
    Both can not be right.

  30. rico says:

Kroenke is holding the club back imo Lee, he’s the one who has the power to change things but he’s far to interested in what’s going on in the US…

  31. Lee says:

Winning the PL 3 times in 20yrs and the last one in 2004 tells all you need to know about Wenger’s management….

  32. Hell Raising Devil says:

As a squad no Rico, but with regards tactics yes…there are many wrong things. Technically our players are vgd but tactically they are not. And dome of them have glass joints.

  33. Lee says:

I disagree, Wenger has full autonomy of the club and he has assembled this squad and refused to strengthen it whilst there’s money in the bank!

Wenger when asked “if the board gave you £100m to strengthen the squad what would you do?” “Give it back to them!” was his reply. Enough said….

  34. tsgh says:

    🙂 lewis.

Agree there Scott. Sometimes it sounds a bit like my neighbour has a new car so we need a new car too… 😛

The manager is either not good enough to get the best out of the already equipped squad or the team is where it is….

If we are always 2 players away from winning the title when we spend vastly less than the other teams above us and some below us then we the manager is doing something right sometimes.

Onour high salary level, there are half a dozen well researched articles by UEFA, KPMG, Delloitte and even swiss ramble etc showing the corelation between salary and table finish across the top 5 leagues in Europe.

It has been proven time and time again that Aw and bayern under Heynckes were the over acheivers; Montpeillier, Lyon amongst the oilers of Monaco and Psg have also been considered over acheivers

  35. rico says:

Wel that’s down to the coaching and tactics from the manager isn’t it Devil? How can this group of players beat City, Utd etc etc and then not be able to beat other sides?

Surely that’s down to playing the same old way, regardless of who we face, AW just doesn’t seem to be able to out smart or out think other managers…

  36. allezkev says:

JM, I’m not sure that Walcott played through the middle against Chelsea, remember we were down to 10 men…

But he did play through the middle against ManUre and Bayern (h), where he had probably his two best games of the season…

We need to do something different.
    We have become, again, predictable.

  37. tsgh says:

    Rico- good question re.
    But same can be said about any other team including Koeman’s team;

Keoman beat us 4-0 and then went on to lose to WHU.

WHU beat us on match day 1 and when on to lose to the foxes…

Even Jose beat us one weekend and lost to Pulis the other weekend.

Fergie could not beat matt le Tissier to save his life even though he won the league 8/10 times…

agreed with Lee though- Aw has built this team. It is forming into his likeness…

  38. Hell Raising Devil says:

No not being able to outsmart them…buy a result of never changing depending on whom we are facing. That is arrogance.

Once I had a head coach like that and always insisted that we play the same way. When i pointed out that its not working against some teams I was dropped for two games running.

Some fools are too bloody stubborn

  39. rico says:

Ts, not being funny, but I don’t give a toot about other clubs and what they do or don’t do. Teams at the top should be able to adjust tactics according to who they face. That doesn’t happen with us under AW…

  40. Hell Raising Devil says:

That is why i feel Elneny was not chosen against Southampton. He gave the team something different by shooting 4 from outside the box in one game.

  41. bradster says:

For me our team are to small. Great if it’s a technical game, top sides usually play this way. lower opposition have burly players that know to defend deep, press and try intimidate the smaller guys.
Sadly, even Ward Price can knock Monreal and Ramsey off the ball.

  42. Drake says:

Ts Flamini or coq are not best partners for ramsey,i do want arteta now but wenger could or should have signed a simila player like him.all i know is ramsey is the best b2b player we have even jack does not near to him.

Since we didnt sign that type of a player last summer,we can only hope they do sign him next summer.the thing is they are expensive…xhaka/pjanic or that guy(italian) who plays for psg is wenger willing to pay?i think not.

Do we need a cf?no but a world class winger is what we need again will be costy…cb i say go for laporte or even stones

  43. rico says:

Odd he didn’t even make the bench Devil. Perhaps he had to undergo extra training on ‘not to shoot’ stuff…

Brad, I often get laughed at for suggesting we need taller, and stronger players…

  44. bradster says:

We’re soft Rico and easily intimidated. We go down so easily at the slightest touch, sitting with our arms in the air for a foul we will never get because we are the Arsenal.
When pressed we lose our mind and aimlessly give the ball away.

  45. tsgh says:

Lol rico. quick one. Teams at the top are other clubs as well.

We all agree City is by far the best team in the EPL and arguably amongst the top 3 teams in the whole of Europe but they also lose to lesser teams.

In my opinion it has less to do with tactics but players being professional and turning up to games instead of telling down trodden fans ‘we will learn from this experience’ after a string of bad performances.

  46. Lewis says:

Hi drake, have to disagree on us not needing a new striker.

Yes Giroud does a decent job but at the moment he has no one challenging him for that spot. We need more competition

  47. Marshall says:

This team is so much like Wenger. When Flam or JC does a shoddy back pass or Ramsey looses possession in a dangerous area nobody is there to tell him to get his head in the game. They all look deaf and dumb in there. As usual there is no leadership. Only Cech controls his box. The rest come to yap to the press.

I blame the usual bottling on AW. Even with half a brain you’d see we needed a finisher and some fresh legs for our ageing crocks. What did he do?

  48. allezkev says:

It will be interesting to compare the business Wenger and Guardiola do in the summer transfer window?

    The old and the new…

  49. Lewis says:

    Kev,
Pep will go out and sign some proven top players and make a statement.

Arsene will be in for the rest of the nigerian youth team.

  50. rico says:

Brad, said the same yesterday about us being soft and going to ground far too easily and just sitting pleading for the foul. Get up and get on with it eh…

  51. Wavy says:

On the CF shortage, we had two usurpers, one is now at Bournemouth presumably because the man with more than 30 years in management thought he. Afobe wasn’t good enough to play premiership football. The other, Akpom is out on a season long loan at the derelict docks of Hull. I think we need him back, NOW! Will he be recalled? Not a cats hope in hell! I suppose with good reason, if he returned he wouldn’t play anyway! Wenger would just sideline him so he may as well stay where he is!
And what has happened to Jeff? Where is he? Has he too been consigned to the Arsenal kindergarten, because, “he iss nut reddeh yit.” Give him a go Arsene! Show us yer balls! Have a little courage! Come on you know you want to really!

Afternoon all. Cold but crisp. A good walking day.

  52. bradster says:

Thing is there are more physical lower teams than technical ball playing. The top teams get physical anyway with us because it works and ball playing teams like West Ham, Swansea, Leicester, Liverpool and the likes know to press us and catch us on the counter.
Having Merts makes it even easier having your striker play on his shoulder. Even Costa, the QE2 could out pace the Titanic.

  53. Wavy says:

And while I’m at it. A conundrum for you:
Who would you pick? Flamini or Iwobi?
I know they are not the same type of player but I’d bet diamonds if Iwobi was told what was required of him, we would not see him running around waving his arms like a windmill, getting in the way of defenders when they are trying to do their job or missing another easy chance in front of goal when a more able forward should have occupied the space he has hogged for himself!
I’ll rant a bit more later on, maybe, when I’ve calmed down!

  54. allezkev says:

You joke Lew, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest…

There seems to be a lot of money sloshing around in this new Chinese League…

    Ramires, Martinez….

I wonder if Wenger could interest them in an ex-Southampton winger…?
    £30 million?
    Yep.
    Sold…

  55. allezkev says:

    You rant away Wavy…

If you all thought that this season has been frustrating, you wait until ManCity start shitting all over us next season and beyond.

  56. allezkev says:

Some guy in the Mail, reckons that Guardiola showed a lack of ambition not coming to Arsenal…

    Really?

Far from a lack of ambition, I think it shows that he’s got his head screwed on…

Why would Guardiola put his reputation on the line working for an owner like Kroenke.

Maybe we should approach Billy Beane?

    My team for Bournmouth;

    Cech, Bellerin, Monreal, Gabriel, Kozzer,
    Coquelin, Elneny, Ozil, Alexis, Campbell,
    Walcott…

  59. Hell Raising Devil says:

Ask yourself this question………How many players would Guardiola have kept in the first team if he came to AFC????

imo…..Cech, Bellerin, Coquelin, Ozil, Ramsey and Sanchez.

The rest he would have chucked away.

  60. bradster says:

Problem is that we suck without a long out ball to Giroud from Cech or clearance. If he doesn’t get on the end of it teams run straight back at us.

  61. Hell Raising Devil says:

I am with you regarding height Rico.

Kev….do you remember when a few years ago I was coaching the Under 19 of one of my clubs? remember what I told you before the season began…….I had a team full of good technical players but all were midgets. Not even one of them was around the 6ft mark…the tallest being 5ft 7 ins. yes we ran rings around them but they just sat back and absorbed our pressure, then WHAM BANG….the ball was in our net. Long ball forward, the CF or wingers muscled their way through us and it was 0-1 down.

that is what is happening with AFC at the moment

  62. Lewis says:

Pep only deals with ready made teams dev, we’re still a team in transition. An eternal transition. Sigh…..

  63. allezkev says:

Yes Coach, I do remember that…

You have to go with what you have at that level..

Arsenal are what, 4th on the list of the wealthiest clubs in Europe/World/Cosmos…

There is no excuse for not having a healthy balance in the squad…

  64. Nashua Gunner says:

    Good Afternoon Rico and All.

HRD. I think you miss our most consistent player so far this season, Monreal.

Ramsey and SC19 would work because one is discipline and tactical aware of his opponent around him. And he is a good distributor and know when to pass. Knows when to switch the ball from one wing to the other.

Le Coq and SC19 work because one knows how to put the tackles in, collect the ball and pass to the distributor while he stays back.

Ramsey and Elneny won’t work unless AW on the touchline continuously dishing out instructions and a reminder to one of them to stay back. And if Ramsey stays in front of the back four, special instructions have to be given, one touch and pass the ball. If not, Alex Song would look like an apprentice in giving the ball away in dangerous areas.

I won’t start Theo on shit even if it were after Sunday Church team we are facing. For 140pw no wonder those who he makes more than don’t giver dam. Last year I said we should sell him then buy Pedro from Barc. He could have even earn less than what Theo is earning right now.

  65. Nashua Gunner says:

Yesterday because of our midfield lackings the back four struggled. Evryy time Wanyama challenged with two of our players, he won the ball. There was a time even three of our players.

  66. rico says:

I think the guy writing for The Mail is right too about Pep… A real challenge of his managerial skill would be to go to a club which doesn’t supply a bottomless pit to spend…

  67. Silky says:

Just watching MOTD from last nite! Kouyate for West Ham scored a 1 on 1 that I really don’t think many of our guys would have scored he’s a better finisher than Walcott ???

  68. rico says:

I’d quite like De Boer, as long as he brings Dennis with him… Lol

But I reckon it’ll someone already involved with the club….

  69. Lee says:

Wenger countered: “Look, I don’t know why you say same old Arsenal. For 20 years we have been at the top of the Premier League. At the moment we have to say that we have dropped points but we have to keep fighting and believing”.

But won it 3 times……. deluded, stubborn, lying git!

  70. scottfromoz says:

Lee, that article pisses me off.
Honestly, I was looking forward to some intelligent points on why things would Improve if Wenger left, yet all it did was verbally bash the man, and go over his mistakes.
Anyone with half a brain could’ve written that.
The author of that shit may as well have read any post thousands of Arsenal fans have rotten thousands of times.
There’s five minutes I’ll never get back lol.

  71. scottfromoz says:

Even I’m ready to say Arsene must leave if he doesn’t win the League….there is no sensible reason at all for him to keep his job if he can’t win it this season, and even a dumb arse like Stan must realise it.
Still, that bloody article didn’t educate me one bit.
    Teaser…….that’s all it was 🙂

  72. rico says:

    Morning Lee, Scott and all…

You still moaning? Anyone would think we hadn’t won the league for years and were on a bad run…. 😉

  73. tsgh says:

Good morning Rico, Scott and all,

martinez’s move the the chinese league goes to show where/what players focus on the most!

As much as I like Gary Neville as a pundit and wanted him to succeed at Los Che, he is finally able to see that sometimes a a manager you can only motivate the players as much as one can.

He is managing a team filled with a den of Jorge Mendez’s vipers who stroll around the pitch like Theo at the Ems after he has signed a new contract.

Even Negredo is not going to save Neville’s neck…

  74. rico says:

I think they both need to go for Arsenal to truly get back to the top. Stick and new manager in and we still have a toothless owner, stick a new owner in and we still have a manger who doesn’t keep up with football and is soft with his players…

  75. rico says:

Morning Ts. Might make the likes of Carragher and co think twice before coming across as a know it all…

Funny enough tough, I think Souness has wound his neck in a bit of late….

  76. scottfromoz says:

Eco, I agree BUT, if Stan goes, at least a new owner almost certainly demand success, so Arsene would be in notice.
As it stands, he’s on clover, as are the players.
I keep saying it, but this attitude starts at the very top, and people can say Arsene runs the club all they want, but Stan is the man…..the only one who can change things, but he won’t, so we need him gone.
Honestly, and I never thought I’d say this, I can see the possibility of losing either Ozil, Alexis or both at season end if we fail to win the League.

  77. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

Are you still rambling about Kroenke and Wneger??? Why not Laurel and Hardy?? At least they had us on the edge of our seats with tears of laughter. SK and AW have us on the edge of our seats with tears of frustration atm.

  78. rico says:

As much as I’ll be sad to see him go, I really hope he does in the summer, especially if we don’t win the league.

If Kroenke gives him a contract extension then it shows just how toothless he really is imo..

  79. rico says:

I see where you are coming from Scott and as you know, I have little time for Kroenke but the question I always ask myself is if AW has it in him to change his footballing ideas, then why hasn’t he? Surely, any man/woman who wanted to be at their best would do so from within themselves and not need an owner to demand success…

  80. Lee says:

Gary Neville says in 15/04/2015, “you see teams go to Nou camp and get beat 5,6, 7-0. Barca are a good side, well they are great side. But if i was involved with a team who got beat 7-0 there i would”nt be able to look my family in the eyes anymore”

    hahahahahaha

  81. Hell Raising Devil says:

I have been following Jamie Vardy a bit lately…..saw his movement during games etc. Well…..he does remind me of a person who has everything falling on his plate atm. Shades of Martin Hayes…remember that season when he scored over 20 goals??? Then a year later, what, something about 7 only??? I feel that Vardy will not do the same heroics next season. Right now he is still catching people by surprise but next season will see him struggle.

Compare him to Kane……he is still producing it.

Between Vardy and Ollie I know who I would choose. And its not Jamie.

I think we should be more concerned about Theo and not about the person who has scored 18 goals so far this season. How many Theo has scored????

  82. scottfromoz says:

Devil, they are such great players, they should be at the top of the tree.
We needed one world class striker…as much as I love OG, he ain’t world class….and a Adam, just a good one…..we’d be 12 points clear right now.
Why oh bloody why are we in 4th spot??
Sean got a new pair of boots today.
Bloody Messi and Ronaldo endorsed boots everywhere, and all flashy colours, which the kids love.
Anyway, my wife asks me if the guy in the pic plays for Arsenal….it was Ozil.
He’s now endorsing Adidas boots over here which is HUGE, as it shows exactly how highly rated he is in world football, keeping in mind Australia is hardly a football crazy country, so for Adidas to use him heavily in advertising here is a massive statement.
I let the boy get the boots!!!

  83. scottfromoz says:

Rico, a new owner would have Arsene on notice.
There’d be no hiding, and no hint of excuses.
I don’t know he can find a new gear, but right now, he doesn’t even have to try to.
Some thrive under pressure, some sink.
When there is none, everyone cruises.

  84. rico says:

Devil, how many matches has Theo played central compared to Vardy?

I know Theo is crap right now but at the start of the season, and when Alexis was fit, we were scoring goals weren’t we? And I’m sure Walcott was involved in a lot of them, if not scoring himself…

  85. Hell Raising Devil says:

Where we scoring that much earlier in the season Rico?? Which season??? If we are to compare the goals ratio to the chances/shots created we have nothing to shout about. Even other teams who are lower in the table have a better ratio.

Sorry….Theo has three to his name. And he is crap not because he is crap but because his attitude stinks……play me where i want or I sulk. Aaron does not like playing on the right but he does put his shift in. Look at Campbell…..he has moments when he is crap but his efforts and work rate are far better than Theo. And this was shown when he was not played……many supporters who write on other blogs all commented about it. Why???

Look at the game vs Burnley…..he had the chance to make it 3-1……how he missed that I will never know. And when he came on against Southampton we were playing 10 against 11+ref. He just touched the ball 2 times in 30 mins. Not bad for a player who is on 140k a week.

    Sorry…..but I do not agree

  86. scottfromoz says:

Rico, maybe….would he be more suited to the style of play that Lieceser are producing?
I mean, his speed is totally wasted with this overuse if the passing game, which allows opponents to set up defensively against us.
There’s no surprising long balls…well, very few.

  87. rico says:

But if we are to slate Theo for missed chances, surely we should do the same for other players too Devil?

I’m not defending Walcott at all, just suggesting it’s not only him who isn’t getting things right for Arsenal, that’s all.

I know he has only scored three goals but early in the season, he was so much better than he is now and I don’t think too many fans were complaining about him…

  88. rico says:

Maybe Scott. But isn’t that AW all over?

He has bucket loads of players but he sticks square pegs into round holes all too often. When we play Ollie up front, how many times does he set us up to fire crosses into him? Nah, as you say, tippy tappy football which gets us nowhere….

  89. Nashua Gunner says:

    Good morning Rico and All.

    Tippy tappy football…
We have a new player, Elneny, who tried to shoot from a distance in his first appearance which should be encourage btw, instead he couldn’t even make the bench the following game. If we had take our chances with Southampton by shooting from a distance who knows what could have happened.

  90. Hell Raising Devil says:

Rico….I am not slating Theo for his missed chances. I loved Inzaghi a lot……Pippo not Simone Ginge. lol. And he missed more than his fair share of chances. theo misses them as well. But its not the missed chances which irk me……its the lack of tactical runs, the sulking attitude when he looses the ball and is not played in the place he prefers, the lack of cover he offers the FB on his flank. That is what irks me.

I blame AW for that. yes I blame AW for tactics or lack of. Koeman was right….AW is always the same. And that smacks of arrogance.

Against Southampton I would have gone differently in the last twenty minutes……I would have gone 3-1-4-2. I would have taken Campbell off and got Per in to have Per/Gab/Kos at the back. Took off Flamini and put Coquelin in front of them…..would have pushed Bellerin and Nacho up to act as Wingbacks, with Aaron and Ozil behind Alexis and Ollie.

I would guarantee a ball would have gone in with that.

And why buy Elneny and leave him out of the squad??? I was right when he said that he shot too much for AW’s liking and AW himself confirmed it when he said that he has to modify the way he plays so that he can integrate in the team.

Elneny would have given us what we lacked…..shots from the distance. Lampard used to win games like that.

In the meantime we try to walk the ball in the net. Yawwwwnnnnn.

  91. Nashua Gunner says:

Even Bellerin crosses these past few games has been dreadful. I could only remember one good cross against Southampton. I hope he has competition soon, because that will up his games.

  92. tsgh says:

    Hi Ng,

Elneny may add something different to our set-up but I am not sure how efficient shooting form miles would make any difference.

Would fans be surprised to find out that shots from outside the 18 yards for Barca, Juve, City, BM, Psg are comparable or even lower than our attempts over a season?

Even RM with Roberto carlos did not shoot from miles just for the sake of it…

What was the % of goals scored in the EPL from outside teh box last weekend?

That myth is the same as the views Jamie and Co. spout on TV often with regards to zonal marking . They only complain when zonal marking leads to a goal but more often than not zonal marking works and no one says so.

Interesting how Klopp uses man marking at liverpool but the approach is not blamed for their abysmal record in conceding from corners but personnel is blamed…

  93. rico says:

Devil, that’s my point really re early in the season. Theo’s attitude was spot on back then and he was playing well and defending too. It’s just recently he’s not been pulling his weight and I think part of that has been the absence of Alexis, as well as being out on the wings.

    Doesn’t make it right I know….

  94. tsgh says:

Dev- I have to agree with… ”Against Southampton I would have gone differently in the last twenty minutes……I would have gone 3-1-4-2. ”

You know I am a fan of 3 at the back when you are putting teams under seige… 😉

Inzaghi Legend. baggio true Legend. Does the creator make them like that anymore?

  95. tsgh says:

Rico- I agree shooting from far would make hell of a difference if a few landed in the back of the net….

But the key word you have used is ”FEW”.

In my view there are 2 types of long range shooters.

Deadball specialist and open play dead balllong range shooters
Arguably the best open play shooters in world football are Kroos, CR07, Bale, Zlatan, Naldo, James rodriguez, Hernanes

Guarin is known to shoot whenever he receives the ball in the last 25 yards of opposition area but for a player who use to average 6 shoots per game he scores 2 goals a season at best.

    he is now in China…

One could put Sneidjer, Pogba, alaba in the miss but they may score 1 screamer a season that will make headlines but that is it…

Calhanoglu is the best a dead ball even better than CR07 and none shoot for the sake of it. imho…

  96. tsgh says:

I did Ng. That was a different situation though. If the opportunity is there, then why not.

Imo, one cant use Vardy’s goal as a premise to tell players to shoot whenever they are in opposition half..
