Emery wants Gomes, Swiss Roll Over & only Welbeck left.

Morning all.

There are some things which just happen in life, a fluke perhaps, a mental block, or just for some other odd reason. We’ve heard it about Arsenal how they can’t win away from home, Wenger couldn’t beat Mourinho or Ancelotti, Arsenal couldn’t win at Old Trafford etc and as far as international football goes, England can’t beat anyone on penalties and nor when their game is covered by ITV. There’s no rhyme or reason to most really, other than it’s often just a case of mentality and preparation. Last night, England overcame both winning on ITV and penalties.

My only surprise of the game really was Columbia finishing the match with eleven players on the pitch. Their tactics were simple and far from being football related. Get at England, especially Harry Kane, for seventy five minutes and then start playing football. Ugly as it was, they got away with it thanks to a weak referee and a VAR system which seemed to have crashed for the night. The odd thing is though when they actually tried to play the game, not only were they were testing England’s defence but they scored to make honours even and take the game into extra time and eventually, penalties. Henderson approached his being far to cocky imo, keepie uppies on the approach to the penalty spot convinced me he was going to miss. He did, well, Ospina made a good save but Pickford made a better one to send England through after Columbia had battered the woodwork with another just before. Columbia got exactly what the deserved from the match imo, nothing! A quarterfinal encounter with Sweden is England’s reward.

The earlier match saw Switzerland get beaten in a game which must be up there with one of the worst in the tournament so far. Xhaka has joined Ozil in the ‘who’s to blame’ camp which is no surprise really as they both play for Arsenal. Jenas wasn’t quite so critical of our man as Phil Neville was but who gives a toss what either think really? Both were very average footballers themselves. Anyway, Xhaka and Stefan Lichtsteiner can have a little holiday now before returning to Arsenal in time for pre-season. As can Ospina although I’m far from convinced he’ll be at the club for much longer.

Never will England have a better chance of replicating the success of 1966 but then that’s another expression we’ve heard so many times as Arsenal fans over the years when it’s looked like we could actually win at Old Trafford when both Moyes and van Gaal were struggling, yet still we failed.
Anyway, the good news is that apart from Danny Welbeck, all our players should be rested and fit for the new season. Some of course have already begun their pre-season training.

How on earth does he do that…….?
On the transfer rumour front, The Independent and ESPN report that Unai Emery is after Andre Gomes. The Portuguese midfielder has far from impressed since moving to Barcelona apparently and could be sold in order to make space for new arrivals.
Have a great day guys, enjoy Wimbledon…

Morning Rico the gomes story don’t have legs. Think it’s just agent talk but nzonzi on the other hand is gathering pace. It’s apparent emery wants a midfielder from his former club cause we ve been linked with banega (whom I ‘ll jump for joy if we get ) and nzonzi. I think we ‘ll get one and not both. I ‘ll take either but think nzonzi ‘ll serve us better even though I love me some ever banega. Think nzonzi ‘ll serve us better since we ve lost both per and giroud. We need a man mountain to defend against set pieces. Plus he’s tough as nails too. Loved how he dominated fellaini at old toilet last season. We ‘re looking good for the new season. Can’t wait to see them all gel.

Afternoon all and thank you Rico………………………………….how does he do that ?………………….if you look carefully, Rambo has a hoop hooked around his ankle(s) !

I only listen to rumours if on Ornstein or listen to who us fans actually want, I like the look fo Cristian Pavon, who apparently was rumoured to have been an Arsenal target in January, but that wasn`t from Ornstein !
    🙂

Still cant get over Wenger not listening to me and then Keown for not going after Harry Maguire when he was cheap at Hull City !

  3. Cicero says:

Maguire is a defender Le Coq, you know Wenger never understood what defending meant, or how to recognise good defenders, or how to coach them.

  4. rico says:

    I’ll look again Lc…

Thought Maquire looked clumsy really, in fact I think the defence as a whole look vulnerable and up against a better team, I think they’ll prove they are..

  5. Cicero says:

Rico, I think the problem with the England defence is playing a back three that consists of two centre backs and one fullback. Kyle Walker has played almost all his game, for club and country, at right back, for a central defender he has neither the experience or the height. I cannot understand why the otherwise fairly astute England manager doesn’t play the much more experienced Gary Cahill instead.

  6. Le Coq Monster says:

Probably need Walker`s pace to cover the other two, Cicero .

Afternoon all……………………..two will be eliminated tonight ……………….from Love Island !
    😆

  7. Le Coq Monster says:

Just to let you all know Arsenal`s friendly away to Boreham Wood on Sat` 14th July will be live on Arsenal Player…………………………………Lose that and it will be “Dick” Out !
    😆

  8. rico says:

Uruguay gone then so perhaps Torreira will soon be confirmed. If he’s signing for us..

    Evening, quiet times…

  9. rico says:

Arsenal are in talks to sign Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, according to Sky sources.

Gunners boss Unai Emery worked with N’Zonzi during his time at the Spanish club.

N’Zonzi previously enjoyed spells with Blackburn Rovers and Stoke before joining Sevilla in 2015.

  10. potter says:

Not sure if the game has been lost behind Mrs May’s Brexit offer or whether she did it deliberately whilst the country was caught up in World Cup fever.

  11. potter says:

Ha ha. At last though they seem to have found an agreement…

It would seem they have decided to have their collectgive tummies tickled because they do seem to have rolled over.

  12. Cicero says:

Rico, Potter it’s a complete sell-out, May has sold us down the river. If this “deal” goes through we will be an offshore vassal state of the EU with no say or influence on the Brussels monolith.

What did this wretched apology for a Prime Minister say after the referendum? “Brexit means Brexit”.

British democracy is dying in the gutter outside Number 10.

  13. Le Coq Monster says:

Some are still coming to terms with Wexit let alone Brexit !……………………..anyway, first things first, lets have Swexit !

  14. micko says:

Well said rico, this is a football blog, no place for politics, looking forward to getting some revenge on those Scandinavian Vikings who burnt down our ancestors homes in the 11th century very shortly……C’mon England !
