Double deal imminent as new Arsenal targets emerge… It’s true, it’s an ‘exclusive’ in The Express.

Morning all.

The Press! I kind of get it, they have a job to do, they need to earn money but boy do they stretch the imagination stakes sometimes, actually, most times. Every last detail exposed when reporting a ‘story’, some of which don’t ever take into consideration the emotions of those effected by what gets written. They can be cruel, so very cruel! And they don’t even care if what they write bears a grain of truth or not, just as long as someone, anyone either buys into what they are reporting. And we folk are the fools because we are the ones who fall for their garbage. Well, they think we do. So many times I’ll click on a headline in one of the newspapers because that’s what I do over breakfast, I read the article and yet so often, there’s actually no concrete substance to what’s been written. Poor Jamie and Louise Redknapp are the latest hot topic. Their marriage is falling apart the media will have us believe, there’s photographs of one or the other venturing out into the big wide world alone and that’s enough they believe to justify writing about an imminent marital breakdown. Oh the joys of being famous eh….. And let’s not forget that Adele swore 56 times during one of her recent concerts which obviously makes her a bad singer, entertainer, a cheap and rude north London bitch!

Then there’s the back pages, the sport. The place where there appears to be little to no rules with stories.

In this section of the newspapers Arsenal, Arsene Wenger can do very little right in their eyes. One day we finally sign a highly rated striker, the next we only signed him because Atletico Madrid couldn’t, and finally, we were lucky because had it not been for Mourinho’s scouts deeming him to be rubbish, Lacazette would have been a Utd player, not an Arsenal one. After all, everyone wants to play for the Portuguese maggot! Still, we all know different and as much as some of find it hard to believe, Arsene Wenger and Arsenal still have pulling power. After all, why else did Sead Kolašinac choose us when he could have gone to any club around the footballing world?

As Jamie and Louise, together with the boobs or backside belonging to one of female Kardashian family hit the front pages, a certain Chilean constantly hits the back ones and I strongly suspect those horrid little men writing about him would love nothing more than to see Alexis Sanchez end up at Man City before this summer transfer window closes. What a coup it would be for the big spending Pep Guardiola should he and his employers throw mega money our way just because they can. But what a fool Alexis would be if he fell for it? At Arsenal he’s no doubt one of the first names on the team sheet, at City, I doubt it’ll be the same and we are talking about a guy who not only wants to win but he wants to be the one out on the pitch winning, not watching on from the bench. He appears to have high standards and a huge work ethic which can only be admired and if Wenger and the rest of the team match such traits, the best place for Alexis is right where he is. And let’s not forget, City won bugger all last season other than a CL spot, something we’ve been doing for years until last season yet in many fans eyes, that’s not been good enough. And it’s not been, certainly not in my opinion.

We however won the FA Cup yet again and unlike the previous two, we won it in style. The 2-1 score line against Chelsea didn’t tell the real story because by halftime, the game could so easily have been over. 4-0 would not have been an exaggeration because we had the chances. We just couldn’t take them. Arsene Wenger looks to have addressed that problem by signing a striker who doesn’t mess around in front of goal. Time will tell if his PL career will be as good as it’s been in France but as Wath said in the week, give the guy time because even the greats like Henry and Bergkamp needed that.

As for all the headlines and substance free stories about Alexis, well again, only time will tell where he’ll be next season but as Hector Bellerin said when the Barcelona stories were being written about him: ‘don’t believe all you read!’

So why on earth would the Daily Express have us believe that Arsene Wenger is ready to make a swoop for Virgil van Dijk and Moussa Dembele in the very near future?

The Press! Love them or hate them, they won’t go away…

I’m better for reading this post, to answer you question from the last post. I couldn’t agree more, although what put me off Adele was that I read she is from Tottenham. I’m assuming she just mentioned the word Tottenham 56 times during one of her recent concerts?

  2. rico says:

Ha ha Gg, nope, the ‘F’ word which didn’t go down well in the reviews, although her fans didn’t complain too much from what I read…

    Morning all.
The media have a job to do.
Nobody holds a gun to our heads to listen.
They do, however, lower themselves to any depth in the name of the sales, I mean truth lol
I dropped in to the local this afternoon after work,
and all the lads were talking about was The Arsenal.
None of them are fans, indeed,
Most aren’t even football fans, but even they were amazed at how well the club was received here.

  4. allezkev says:

Morning Scott, that’s good to hear, but it’s the kids, it’s the next generation of fans that Arsenal need to appeal to. From that perspective the tour has been a rip roaring success and I expect us to tour Down Under again within the next 5 years.

  5. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Hopefully, kev The Club will be more trailblazing next time 🙂

Speaking of trailblazing only 2 months to go to the day & I’ll be @ Stamford Bridge drinking free sauce in a corporate box watching The Arsenal fire live amo @ the chavs 🙂

Thanks Rico for a fine post.

I`m loyal to Arsenal and when I hear the fat spud supporting bitch Adele on the radio I change chanel !……………………………………….Warren Mitchell, Peter Cook, Michael McIntyre, any celebrity spud, journalists (except Ornstein), are all from the same family tree……………..A Cactus Tree…………….they`re all pricks !

Good post, Rico; enjoyed it. I believe that some old hack once said: ‘if you put enough monkeys in enough rooms with enough typewriters one of them will type King Lear; I certainly think that’s a maxim the Express uses, only in their case it’s. . . make up enough nonsense stories about enough players and, eventually, one of them will actually happen. You can then conveniently ignore all the other dross and claim a ‘world exclusive’ on that one true story. However, for some perverse reason, I still enjoy the transfer window and all the nonsense that comes with it; it’s the masochist in me I guess.

    Hiya Kev,
I was just saying to someone that the club has a large profile here, but also attracted a lot of new fans because of how they handled themselves, so must maintain the momentum and tour again in a few years.
I know I’ve already said it, but they’ve attracted a lot more interest than ANY other club we’ve seen here and I include the likes of Real in that.
No club has created anywhere near the hype.
The feedback we have is that the club we’re genuinely surprised at how popular they are here.

If she could at least sing in tune perhaps her potty mouth wouldn’t matter so much. Or perhaps it would be worse.
    Who cares!

  10. allezkev says:

Scott/Gnarly, I reckon about 4 or 5,years myself before they take in Oz again, although it could be sooner due to the interest generated there.

China, the US, Singapore/Hong Kong and SE Asia are areas to expand our profile.

There’s also India, a massive untapped market, although security concerns could affect the prospect of a visit anytime soon.

Nigeria is on the agenda next year if I recall correctly, Africa is a market that needs looking at seriously.

    Shit, I’m sounding like Gazides… ?

  11. rico says:

    Thanks Lc, MikeB.

I’m not overly fussed about what they write on Adele although I like her voice, but just thought it was a good example of how the press pick and choose what they write depending on which way the wind is blowing.

But like Mike, I enjoy reading all the rubbish they write because I know most of is is just that, rubbish.

As far as Lemar is concerned, don’t dither, move on, we’ve been caught out before in this way and missed out on other targets.

Keep an interest in Lemar, keep a contact of course, go in with another bid perhaps but start working on alternatives immediately, there’s over a month to go, 6 weeks in fact, of this window, don’t waste it hanging all your hopes on one player.

What about the guy at Nice, are we still in for him?
    Martial, is there contact?
Morata, is there an interest still?
Dembele is a possible I suppose?!
Don’t believe we’re in for Dick Van Dyke or whatever his name is.

  13. ScottfromOz says:

Just watching a show that raised a question-what’s the sudden stink about Aubemayang?
Why isn’t any club even discussing him now??

Morning all, hope everyone is well and has been enjoying the Aus tour!

I’m curious to know, assuming Sanchez leaves (which i hope he doesn’t) does anyone think there would be any logic (having just bought Laca) in going for PEA also?

Personally i’d much rather have him than face him and i think it would give us some great options upto top to interchange between players depending on situations….? My opinion of course

  15. Obi says:

    Hi All:

Welcome back Rico. Wath did a great job while you were chilling on the beach.

As strange as it may sound, many credible outlets (not the express, sun or mirror… lol) are reporting that Mbappe father particularly wants his son at Arsenal. Monaco on the other hand, wants the highest bidder. Apparently the father has tremendous respect for AW and they have met several times in the last 2 yrs through the agent who recommended Kante to AW.

It’s ironic that we are been link with Dembele and van Dijk. When Dembele was at Fulham they asked Arsenal to pay 750k for him before he left for free to Celtics. When van Dijk was at Celtic Arsenal was quoted 25m for him and we balked, Southampton paid it. Now combined both players will cost 90-100m…..smh.

  16. rico says:

Or Morata Bumba, I think i’d rather the latter…

Thanks Obi, he did and always does…

I’m not convinced the Mbappe story is over yet. Fingers crossed eh….

  17. Obi says:

    Bumba 11:

Actually PEA was originally a winger and has an amazing vision picking out players with his passing ability….much above many of our current forwards including Sanchez. It could be terrifying with him and Lacazette together…. only thing is you will need a solid DM. Both are suspect defensively

  18. bumba11 says:

I’m not entirely convinced by Morata, he just always seems a step behind, maybe i haven’t watched him enough.
Despite the Wenger comments, i would love us to get Mbappe…keeping them crossed for sure Rico.

  19. Le Coq Monster says:

Half right there, Gnarley ! 🙂
……………………………..The character Alf Garnet was an Hammer, but Warren Mitchell was a spud !……………………..only Spuds I like are baked, roasted, mashed, cut and fried !

  20. Simon says:

Am just wondering what Alexis thinks…because now he wants champions league games when he could not win us champions league spot..? When he came to Arsenal he found us playing champions league…let him win us a champions league spot and leave…as much as he has won is games, I still believe that his attitude this last season cost us a place in the prestigious league.

  21. frednerk says:

    Afternoon Rico and All

As much as I love Sanchez..His 4 year contract is up regarding a fee.
For those of us who think he was the dogsbollox its sad.
But he has to go..His not a brit is he.

For me Arsene would have gone around christmas had it not been
for Sanchez..The little chilian has keep us going for the last two years.

Amazing that the top players demand more from team mates..But most
    are like that.

Facts and Stats..are for those that want to prove a point..But
How can anyone who has seen this little geezer…Not love him.

  22. Wavy says:

Just seen a picture of Walcott in a wheelie bin! Does this mean that the arse have finally decided to dump him?

Afternoon all. Hot and calm here. A really grand English summer’s day.

  23. Le Coq Monster says:

Hot here as well !……………………….the heat from Devon must be contagious !

Just been cruising around the land on my open top one seater ride on mower ! 🙂

  24. Le Coq Monster says:

Rumour that Debauchery is going to have a medical at Nice ………………………………………….Nice !………………………………..will mean we can have an open spot for another Foreign player !………………………..Nice !…………………………………………two spots if the Szczesny to Juve` rumour is true !……………………………………….double Nice !

Agree with a couple of earlier comments that although it`s all bullshit, I do like the TW shenanigans and excitement…………..well, as long as we get some more players and Laxative is not the last !………………….which I have a sneaking suspicion may be the case if Lemar is off limits !…………………….on the flip side of that is that we can have a good old moan about Arsene if he doesn`t get anymore top quality players !…………..win win !………………………………..Nice !

    😆

  25. Wavy says:

LC, did you have the roof down or were the windscreen wipers working over time??

Saw their team in a hotel we were staying in Nice. I was struck by the height of their players bean poles they were! Debuchy will be the team dwarf I reckon, if he signs.
    Still………..Nice!

  26. Le Coq Monster says:

    Sorrry…………..Wavy ! 🙂

No word of a lie, I usually double check whether I have put Wath or Wavy !……..and just now I went straight to newsnow and imediately thought………………….was it Wath or Wavy ? hahaha…………stop confusing me ! 🙂

  28. potter says:

Morata not really an upgrade on Giroud ,similar style just younger. If as it looks Wenger has been given 2 years the first to requalfy for the second to be his shot at his holy grail then Ollie is as good as it gets for that style of player. This is why we need to upgrade the service and replace Theo hence the interest in Lemar. Wenger wants Sanchez to stay and it is noticeable how really top players tend to ignore him. With us Ozil and Sanchez played together and used him as a last resort. For England Rooney and Gerrard would always look somewhere else first which negated his pace. ,Theo should have been a top player at Southampton like Noble was at West Ham, Arsenal was a step too far ,always a bit part rather than the real thing. If the money being bandied about for him is true, then snatch their hands off.
One last comment from my deckchair in very sunny Cyprus. Reports suggest that the club are to treat the Europa as a means to blood the youngsters. If so get them off the season tickets ! if they will be little more than League cup teams treat them accordingly.
