Does Campbell loan indicate RvP stay? Dial him up today Arsene…..

Here we go again then with the RvP saga.

Crunch talks are to take place this week over the contract saga and they are reported to be over the telephone!

Sorry Arsene, he doesn’t want to speak to you…..

RvP is on holiday so face to face talks are out of the question but what is the likelihood of anything being solved over the phone, unless of course it’s a simple yes or no following previous talks?

But, we all know that The Daily Mail have a hotline to Arsene Wenger so that story must be true.

As for the Juventus offering £8 Million for our captain, PHW has strenuously denied the story.

As far as I am aware nobody has made any offer for him and he is away so we are not in any dialogue at all.

We’re not in the remotest bit interested in selling him.

Would PHW actually be aware of much going on at the club these days? I don’t know..

Many websites reported yesterday that Joel Campbell will be heading out on loan again, this time to Real Betis. Surely if RvP was going, we’d need this young man in the squad?

Oh well, something a bit different now:-

Tennis is and always has been one of my favourite sports and this particular fortnight in the games calendar has in the past kept me sat indoors watching every minute I could.

Times have changed though as it has in so many other sports, the real characters in the game have disappeared, the McEnroe, Năstase , Vilas, Chris Evert, Billie Jean, Martina, LeConte, Borg, Connors – the list in endless.

Tennis players have to train long and hard to stay in contention of competing at what is considered to be the best tournaments in the calendar year. Those, known as the ‘Slams’ are the ones which pay out the best prize money and this years Wimbledon prize money for the winner is:

£1,150,000 to the Mens Champion  & £1,100,000 to the Ladies Champion.

The two most highlighted big earners in the Premier League are  reported to be Wayne Rooney and Yaya Toure, both earning £250,000 a week, yes, a week.

So, regardless of whether they are fit or not, training or not or playing or not, they both know that each and every week of their footballing life, they will be earning that £250,000.

Tennis players however, are a totally different ball game, excuse the pun!

If they aren’t fit, playing and winning, their income is zero!

Ok, they may earn finances from elsewhere, such as clothing endorsements and sponsorships alike, but footballers get that too, and on top of their astronomical salary.

Take a look a one guy in particular and that’s James Ward.

I have chosen him for two reasons.

1) He is British.

2) He’s a Gooner.

He’s currently the British number 2 player, behind Andy Murray. He is ranked 171 in the world of the game, whereas Murray is seeded 4th in this years Wimbledon tournament.

As far as I know, tennis is his only income – he dabbles around on the ATP circuit all year, winning the odd few thousand pounds here and there but it’s not enough to keep him living the life he wants too. In fact so much so he had to give up this coming seasons, season ticket for the club he loves because he knew he couldn’t justify spending so much money.

Little did he know that within just a few hours he would defeat Spaniard Pablo Andujar in five sets and secure £23,125.00

The following round he went out and unless he does well in another major tournament or win’s one of the so called lesser ones, that is the bulk of his salary for the year.

Of course, there are many of us who work twelve months for less than that one amount, but I’m talking sport here, not reality.

Compare that £24,000 to what footballers earn, or the £7 Million per annum which our own manager is reported to earn.

Tennis players train hard every day of the week, possibly harder than footballers, they have no-one else to rely on if they walk on the court on an off day either. No, it’s all down to one person, and that one is them alone, they won’t be ‘carried’ on matchday, unlike so many prima donnas who play in the Premier League!

Just look at a few of our own!

So just who will win Wimbledon?

If all goes to plan it will be Andy Murray, maybe he can replicate what Virginia Wade achieved in the Silver Jubilee year 1977 – and as much as I’m not keen on the guy after his England comments, he’s still a Brit and for that reason alone, I hope he lifts that nice shiny cup.

As for the £1,150,000 that goes with it, well Toure and Rooney would have earned nearly half of that in the two weeks that Wimbledon has been running – and all whilst they are sat on a beach, swimming with dolphins or something similar…

Not bad, eh?

Oh, and by the way – James Ward had to gruel it out for over three hours to pick up his earnings – not  a mere 90 minutes and two days later, he was out on court again. He didn’t need 5/6 days off for a rest, unlike some footballers.

Moral of the story – even if you are good, don’t choose tennis if you can kick a football at a young age…..

Have a good day all…

I obviously searched the wrong website CB – oops, thanks for that but i am sure you get my drift, its about comparing football with tennis and the wages earned…

  2. Adam says:

Morning Rico. Interesting post. All that money and incredibly handsome too. That Wayne Rooney’s a lucky guy.

  3. Adam says:

With all that money he could afford a gold-plated Calor Gas bottle for his caravan. Now that’s luxury.

  4. rico says:

If, and that is a big if, the reports about RvP and the phone call, then it would suggest that the previous talks went ok and he just needed to go off and make up his mind.

Hopefully another signing today or tomorrow will sway his decision the right way…

  5. rico says:

You sure he wouldn’t be wired up to the caravan next to his?

It worked for the Dingles 😉

  6. GoonerB says:

In our modern pc world you have to be careful how you analyse why the mens tennis gets the bigger prize money. The extra sets will only be one part of it. I feel the reality, and bigger part of it, is that mens tennis is the bigger draw. Even many females would say they love watching the mens tennis but are a bit non-plussed by the ladies. That means that the mens will bring in the greater monies in sponsorship, gate receipts and viewers at home. If you ran the ladies and mens Wimbledon at seperate times as seperate competitions there would be a massive discrepency in the revenue brought in for each of them. On the Arsenal front. lets hope for positive news this week re. RVP. Many gooners want a DM and another CD. I think the answer is to go for Javi Martinez. He can play both and with Song being able to play both also we would be well covered. He may be pricey but £25m say on one player is better than that on 2 and keeps the wages lower. In addition I think he is shaping up to be the best DM out there and if anyone reminds me of Patrick it is him.

  7. rico says:

CB – Sharapova has made most of her money from endorsements and magazines etc etc – that forbes list includes all earnings, not just from what they earn from playing alone….

  8. rico says:

GoonerB, i think a few here have put Javi Martinez name up before, i’ve not seen him play tbh…

  9. Lewis says:

    Morning peeps.
Like you Rico I love tennis, play quite a bit and since giving up playing footy it’s probably my main form of exercise. When the euros were on I have to admit I was watching the French open and Wimbledon more than the football. Tennis players are proper athletes, like you say it is all on them and I find that fascinating, the gruelling 5 setter between cilic and Querry as a spectacle just pisses all over anything that the euros had to offer. Too many overpaid premadonnas in football and I find that unless it’s arsenal I don’t care! Being a Scot massively hoping Murray will do it but can’t see him getting past djokovic tbh.

  10. rico says:

Have to agree totally there Lewis, unless its arsenal, i don’t give a toot either, even england/ireland didn’t get me taking too much interest.

Didn’t realise Djokovic was in Murrays half of the draw, thought it was Nadal but as he’s gone, really hoping Murray gets to the final…

  11. rico says:

Wish the fool hadn’t had made his England comment though… Strongly suspect he wishes he hadn’t too now….

  12. Scott from Oz says:

    Evening all.
    Tennis….bbblllaaaahhhhhhh.
    Boring sport.
Too many games are one sided.
    Football……bbblllaaaahhhhh.
Boring time of year for it!!!
A young Aussie keeper is heading to Burnley for a trial.
He keeps for my local A League side, and if he was three inches taller, would be playing in the Premier League,in my opinion.
Matthew Ryan is his name, and though shortish for a keeper at a bare 6 feet,he’s one of the best shot stoppers I’ve seen at that age….certainly coming out of Oz.
He has the odd lapse in concentration…they all do 21 years of age…but he has all the skills.
Now before anyone sniggers,we do have a reputation for supplying pretty decent players in that particular position, and he loses nothing at his stage of his career on our best.

  13. Lewis says:

Do you raise good keepers because down under they prefer their sports with ball in hand do you think scott? I heard kewell wants to head back this way as well.

  14. Scott from Oz says:

Lewis 95% of kids here try a we different codes of football, and most play cricket,so you could well be right.
Rico….most of you like the transfer window???

  15. rico says:

Looks like AVB is about to be confirmed as manager of that lot down the road….

Watch them start signing up a few players….

  16. Ryan L says:

    Morning All.

I haven’t checked it in any detail, but I read somewhere yesterday that Campbell didn’t actually meet the criteria for a work permit, as he had only played 60% of internationals during the last 2 years as opposed to the required 75% or 80% or whatever it is.

  17. rico says:

    Hi Ryan

Had my hopes up afer reading that 1nilup2nil down report, they suggested he had played over 75% international fixtures….

As lee said though, had Fergie signed him, he’d have no problem but its us…

  18. Charlie George aka AK says:

    Morning AKB’s.
Morning Rico. Great post. How do you do it?

    Wayne Rooney. £250k per week!
    And he smokes???!
    What a typical thick Scouser…

Mind you, as Adam suggested, he is a ‘babe magnet’…
65 year old babe of course.

  19. Micko says:

    Morning all,
Holy transfer windows ! great caption rico.
Hope Campbell don’t end up becoming another one of our nomads, surely it would have made more sense to have kept him at Lorient for another season, i’m sure some deal could’ve been struck.

  20. rico says:

    Couldn’t resist Micko 😉

Agree re Campbell, still don’t understand why he’s not heading to England…

How many have we out on loan ‘awaiting permits’ now…. Far too many…

  21. Charlie George aka AK says:

Rico, does Commissioner Gordon know that Batman is moonlighting as a football agent?

  22. Charlie George aka AK says:

Righto, just slipping into me Utility Belt.
Got a right Joker in tje back… Sorry.
    Lata

  23. Joaquim Moreira says:

    good morning
Do we have 34 millions euros for J. Moutinho? If the answer is yes, contact me and J. Moutinho will be a gunner next season 🙂
The latin american arsenal blog fans were talking abou Belhanda (montpelier) for Arsenal

  24. KM says:

Are Real Betis in La Liga?

Belhanda is only worth pursuing if RvP leaves…otherwise he’d be warming the bench

  25. KM says:

Any Lique 1 fans on here who could tell us about Belhanda?

The guy supplied the bullets for Giroud and together they powered Montpellier to win the league. Not bad I say……

Is he as good as say….Kagawa?

  26. Joaquim Moreira says:

    40 millions … but with 34, I get him! 🙂
MU offer will be 34 millions…
Betis is in La Liga. Valladolid, Coruna and Celta are again in La Liga.

  27. W.A.T.H says:

What do you think of Veloso JM… I always liked him and then he went off the boil with a poor attitude now seems playing well again..?

How old is Moutinho now JM..? You think he can handle the prem lge..?

  28. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Both have 26 years old.
    J. Moutinho? Sure
Veloso is playing now in Genoa. Different players. Inever like Veloso but he grow up and played well in the euro 2012.
    J. Moutinho wasn’t a surprise. He plays always with high intensity.

  29. rico says:

Four of the young players released by Arsenal on June 30 have new clubs.

Alban Bunjaku has joined La Liga side Seville, Ben Glasgow has gone to Stoke City, Rhys Murphy has joined Dutch club Telstar and Jeffrey Monakana is staying in England with Preston North End.

Meanwhile, young professional Jernade Meade has signed a new contract with Arsenal.

  30. Charlie George aka AK says:

Mario Gotze is a fantastic player.
Sadly the chances of Arsenal getting him are zero.
By next summer I suspect it would take in the region of £40/£45 million to secure his services from Dortmund.
Moutinho is vgd also, but i’d value him closer to £18 million.

  31. Charlie George aka AK says:

Hope that Murphy has a change of luck.
That lad deserves a big switch in fortune.

  32. Micko says:

rico, anyone can knock a ball over a net, banging it into the back of a net is where the real art lies.

  33. KM says:

Any Lique 1 fans on here who could tell us about Belhanda?

The guy supplied the bullets for Giroud and together they powered Montpellier to win the league. Not bad I say……

Is he as good as say….Kagawa?

  34. Joaquim Moreira says:

Has Toots much money for spend?
    I predict those players:
    J. Moutinho
    Alvaro Pereira…

  35. rico says:

KM – i read a while back that we are to bid for Belhanda, in fact back last summer his name was around…. Now it’s popped up again so it could be old news re hime…

He is described as being ‘Pires like’ – not that I think players should be likened to others, but, it seems he is quite good 😉

  36. DutchGooner10 says:

The Wimbledon women’s had 20 birds spelling “ova” so the tournament can bleed one more. Rico 😉

KM I know Belhanda is on drawing note in many hats but you should check YouTube for Pastore from PSG very gifted CAM. Favour him above the Moroccan or a gamble such as Gourcuff.

  37. rico says:

I posted this a few days ago:

Younès Belhanda (Arabic: يونس بلهندة‎; born 25 February 1990) is a Moroccan international footballer who plays for French club Montpellier in Ligue 1. He primarily plays as an attacking midfielder and a winger and is described as a player who possesses “vision, technique and intelligent decision-making”. After beginning his career in a defensive role, he has developed into an attacker, which has led to his current coach René Girard comparing him to former France international Robert Pirès.[1]

  38. rico says:

Hi DG – I had hoped Kvitova would win the ladies title, now it seems Big Bird will breeze it – I am not a fan of either of the Williams sisters….

  39. DutchGooner10 says:

JM Spain well done, congratulations with the Euro vase. 🙂

By the way any good lottery number I should pick??

  40. rico says:

Stop talking and sort it then !!!!!!

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner is set to leave the Premier League giants and join a “top club” this summer, according to his agent.

The Denmark international is not in manager Arsene Wenger’s plans at the Emirates and is tipped to move away.

Reports in Denmark have claimed that Malaga and Galatasaray have made offers for Bendtner, whose agent Tom Brookes claims that the 24-year-old will join a big side.

“Nicklas is a top striker, who just proved himself at the Euros,” Brookes told Ekstra Bladet.

“I’m certain that he is going to end up at a top club, but I’m not going to be drawn into speculation.”

Bendtner still has two years left on his current contract with Arsenal and spent last season on loan at Sunderland.

  41. rico says:

HI JM – the toots have told him he has money to spend, and that is before selling Modric and VdV….

  42. rico says:

nor could i charlie, not until they start losing – then i’ll be very interested..

couldn’t stomach it though if theo goes there….

  43. DutchGooner10 says:

Rico I find the Williams hilarious with their audacious experimental ‘own’ design apparel. Saying goes they grow a hairy back every full moon circle. Great post btw.

  44. Charlie George aka AK says:

    What was wrong Sunderland then?
They’ve also got some tall players….. Sorry
    Lata

  45. DutchGooner10 says:

Lata Charlie. You must be shifting gears for the Hoops tourism. Been on a training camp?

  46. rico says:

Makes me laugh DG, his agent, just like his father last year, keeps talking about how this that and every club wants to sign Nik, well if they were that keen, he’d be long gone by now….

  47. DutchGooner10 says:

Seems these doctors of spin all had their nose in “Transfer markets for Dummies” ain’t it Rico. First chapter “Trees are contracts in disguise. If you have 9 hours to yell TIMBER!! spend 8 sharpening your axe. Your client must be compelled and intrigued to cough up your friendly fee.”

But it adds up for knuckle head brains. Replacing a former ManU legend that recently hanged his boots at Malaga who finished fourth in La Liga, which is a trophy in Arsenal standards.

  48. rico says:

Nice thanks Charlie – new pots from the garden, veggie bangers and cauli/broc in cheese sauce with onion gravy 🙂

  49. DutchGooner10 says:

Brooks introductory foresight to Bendtner: “Malaga have emerged as the leading candidates”

Bendtner: “Say no more, ‘leading’ sounds promising enough, where do I plant my fingerprints?”

  50. rico says:

DG – Nik will have to drop his wages to go anywhere, unless the chinese want him 😉

JM – Arsenal are better than both 😉

  51. rico says:

I’m done for the day guys, catch you all tomorrow hopefully 🙂

Nighty night and stay safe all….

  52. DutchGooner10 says:

Nighty night lady of the house. Did you see my post on the WordPress freelancer? Or do you think you’re out of your depth with assessing what requirements such project encompasses?

  53. Scott from Oz says:

    JM…Portugese….Spanish…same thing.
Just like English….Irish…Welsh…Scottish…..one in the same.
Just don’t you lot to comparing we Aussies to bloody Kiwis!!!!
    Morning all.

  54. W.A.T.H says:

There I was thinking you Ozzies were just Kiwi refugees Scott…! Kiwi’s Ozzies, same meat different gravy, both the same…!
