Different Manager, same old football. After waiting years, Arsenal defender get’s his revenge…

Morning all.

Different manager for England but nothing really changes does it. The match between them and Slovakia was nothing short of awful. Walcott didn’t help justify his international recall either, although having seem him get stuck into a tackle, pushing Ali out of his way at the time, I thought he was going to have a good game having come on from the bench but he looked like a rabbit in headlights at times but at least he worked hard. He cocked up a couple of good chances to give England the lead, although he did finally score a goal which was ruled offside. Despite England feeling hard done by as the players thought a Slovakian defender had the last touch, replays show Sturridge’s bootlaces helped the ball through to Walcott.

Last nights officials in general were awful and how Martin Skrtel lasted sixty minutes of the match I don’t know. Booked in the first half an hour, he got away with a few naughty tackles which should have seen him make an early exit but it wasn’t until he stamped on Kane’s leg, the referee decided enough was enough and a second yellow card was shown to the former Liverpool thug player. A straight red card would have been more appropriate! Anyway, Lalana spared Big Sam’s blushes right at the end of the game and England came away with a 1-0 victory in their first 2018 World Cup qualifier.

No such problems for the reigning champions Germany though as they battered Norway 3-0. Mesut Ozil played the entire match whilst Shkodran Mustafi watched on from the bench. There’s many more World Cup fixtures tonight and tomorrow night when Koscielny, Giroud and Holding (under 21’s) will be involved and I think that’s about it. Until October anyway.

For those who didn’t watch the Legends match on Saturday, HERE’S one of the funniest moments in the game.

After the game, Nigel Winterburn said he’d waiting for 18 years to get revenge on Paolo Di Canio after both players  had been involved in ‘that’ incident when Di Canio pushed over referee Paul Alcock during Arsenal’s match against Sheffield Wednesday back in 1998.

Well, I’ve been waiting a long time to get Paolo back. I thought I’m getting a little bit old now so it was a good opportunity. Listen, we had a chat about it before honestly and said ‘let’s just have a little go’.

He wanted Howard [Webb] to have a join in with us as well, but he wasn’t having any of it! It’s such a fantastic cause today for the charity, and also a competitive game.

No surprise there re Webb, I bet he was too afraid to muck up his hair or get a crease in his shirt.

What a spoilsport…

Have a good Monday guys….

Morning rico and House. You are being harsh on our Walcott, 3 decent crosses and we looked much livelier with Alli and him on the field. Should have had an assist and a goal! Spot on re Skrtel, I was fuming at the ref.

  2. rico says:

Morning Andrew, I thought I was being nice about Theo… Just the two shots on goal were a bit dire… 😉

    Skrtel is a ghastly player…

  3. rico says:

I blame the coaches for a lot Kelsey, as Potter said on yesterdays post, his position should have been sorted a long time ago and coached better. He’s not the only one either…

  4. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. I can’t bring myself to watch England these days. Interesting to see what happens with the Halsey revelations. If anything.

  5. kelsey says:

Agreed Rico.We hasd this discussion the other day especially with proven players who we have watched countless times then buy them and then expect them to play in two or three different positions, not their natural position and therefore we don’t get the best of them,

With the youngsters it’s slightly different and you are right,it’s the coaching or lack of it. Why does the ox 90% of the time run with his head down. Now watch Ozil, the complete opposite,

  6. potter says:

Nothing to see here . The Halsey thing will be hushed up , it’s in nobodies interest to take it further. ……………………………………….Except the fans though.

  7. Adam says:

Hi Scott. Sorry, I had to pop out. I would like to think so but, as Potter rightly points out, it’s not in the authorities’ interests. The PL is so huge now that financially, if it was thought to be corrupt, the ramifications would be very serious. Having said that, the idea of Riley and his acolytes being investigated is an attractive proposition.

  8. potter says:

My fear is that they will make an investigative show , whitewash the whole thing , discredit Halsey and with a new mandate carry on just as they have up to now.

  9. Le Coq Monster says:

    Can you imagine !……………………………………………………..

Stevie B in 56th minute of game : ” Arsene !……….Looks like Ollie has broken his leg !!!………..Yaya quick get changed ! ”

Arsene : Lets not be too hasty Yaya !, take your time on the warm up…..about 5 mins whilst I check my calculator !”

  10. kelsey says:

“Jon Smith, who is preparing to release a part-memoir, part-exposé on the inner-most workings of football life, explained that a large number of Premier League footballers now have bonus clauses in their contract that activate when they play a certain amount of minutes in any particular game.”

There’s your answer cockie,he’s advertising a book that’s coming out.

  11. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Buona sera Lovelies and Hunkies.

Just came across this video in the cup…… watch it. A keeper scores from one penalty area to another……while the last goal was scored by someone whose name is Sanogo.

\\Do you think he is playing with a non league club as well??

  12. kelsey says:

    Morning all.

I can’t find much to talk about as we are still days away from our Home fixture against The Saints.

Iwobi is fit so it will be interesting if he or Walcott starts.

  13. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Buongiorno Lovelies and Hunkies.

There is so much to talk about Kelsey. If only all of it makes sense.

My team for the Southampton game…..

    Cech
    Bellerin, Mustafi, Kos, Nacho
    Xhaka, Cazorla
    Theo, Ozil, Alexis
    Ollie

I have seen good progress from Theo to put him on the right. He is working hard for a change and that is enough for me.

Then three days later we face Forest in the Cup. so my team will be…..

    Ospina
    Debuchy, Mustafi, Holding, Gibbs
    Coquelin, Elneny
    Iwobi, Reine Adelaide, OX
    Perez

Aaron is still injured so that is why I did not put him in. I was tempted to put Akpom up front and Perez on the left but then realised that this is the perfect match for Perez to bed himself in. I put Mustafi in again so that Kos will be given a rest and he will become used to Holding and the English game as well.

  14. rico says:

    Morning you both and all.

Kelsey, maybe it’ll be OC who makes way IF Iwobi is ready to return, or maybe Iwobi will be on the bench.. 😉

Big game against Southampton imo, we need a win at The Emirates with a top performance, otherwise it’s going to be a rowdy place… And not for good reasons..

  15. rico says:

It’ll be interesting too to see if both new boys go straight in or come off from the bench. My hunch is both will start if fit.

Mustafi on the right wing and Perez in goal… 😉 😉

  16. kelsey says:

Did I hear right that AW was booed by a section of the crowd after The Legends match.

I think many people will look at Wengure’s tenure as two .The first ten years and the last ten and I was thinking how many teenagers or say up to 20 years old have we bought with or without a work permit, that have actually made it regularly to play in the first team.

Bellerin then it starts to get difficult.

  17. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Buongiorno Rico

It might be that Perez goes up front but I feel that he will be a sub. At the back its easier to slot in than up top.

I still think that Theo deserves his place (yes I still have to be convinced but what is his its his…cant fault his attitude this year) so it will be Ozil flanked by Theo and Alexis. With Ollie up front.

Then Perez will come in with around 20 mins left if no injuries occur.

  18. rico says:

Apart from Campbell Kelsey, I can’t think of anyone else and even he has hardly ‘made it’ – although I’d say that’s not down to him…

  19. rico says:

Devil, wouldn’t it be nice to think that rather than a sub or two on 60 mins, Arsene Wenger will assess the game as it goes and make the necessary changes as and when needed depending on how the game goes?

  20. Hell Raising Devil says:

A very good read and also tactically wise for AW to apply that. However, does he always begin with Perez and introduce Ollie later on or does he begin with the latter and then introduce LP09 later on? Or does he begin with both of them?

LP09 can play centrally or left wing. And he does not drift outside when he is central. Likewise he does not cut much inside when he is lateral. Maybe his movement will compliment the trio behind him, however it would be wise for AW to alternate between them as Ollie will have a lot to offer to teams especially against the Stokes and Palaces and WBAs

  21. scottfromoz says:

    Morning all.
Adam, I agree with everything you said, but it’s a shame no one in a position of authority has the decency to do what’s right, and not what’s popular.
Thank goodness the Interlull is nearly over, and we can get on with some football.

  22. Hell Raising Devil says:

yes it does and hopefully AW will begin to adapt and change. but as I said….don’t bet on it since it will be a rarity he has done so.

I hope the formation goes through adaptability as well. Players can adapt…..ideally its the formation which gets adapted to the players. But AW has been playing the same formation since he sold PV04 and began playing CF04.

He has the tools and players to do so…..only the grey matter between his ears stops him from doing so.

  23. rico says:

Let’s hope the head of the FA grows a pair Scott. The media really need to push it too. Perhaps if they left Wenger and Arsenal alone for a few days, they would….

  24. rico says:

Before now though Devil, he’s not had the players to swap and change, now he has for the first time in about ten years….

Who knows, he might actually use them and at least his favourite is gone for the season so no fitting him in…

  25. scottfromoz says:

    Rico, spot on.
Even from Oz, I can see the media give it to our club and manager.
Maybe we deserve it, but not to the extent it happens.
I can see there are more serious and relevant topics of conversation to be had…..why aren’t they mentioned??

  26. potter says:

The media , tv / radio / newspapers sell because of the”” beautiful game “” . It is the golden goose , they are not about to kill it. Look at the coverage Blatter and his lot got :- . 2 weeks of sub headlines and then forgotten , this will be the pattern for Beckenbauer and the Qatar bid too . Much better to feed the masses what they want . Remember the media only tells you what they want you to know..

  27. allezkev says:

Strange how there is so little fuss being made of the Mark Halsey revelations…

I don’t suppose it will be discussed on Football Focus this Saturday or on SKY’s Hold the Back Page on Sunday – or whatever they now call that pile of shit – and as far as the Press is concerned, zilch…

    A cover up or what?!!!

Ginge, get onto your mates at MI6, this needs looking in to….

  28. Rick says:

Kev I think that is fantastic news for Eddy, and having scored 27 goals from 31 starts is well deserved, Looking forward to seeing many more.

  29. Rick says:

How rude off me Afternoon Rico and the House.
Kev have you seen the interview from Freddie Lundberg. .
In it he states Arsene advised him against taking up an assistant coach role and recommended that he becomes a head coach.

He added I hope to become a manager and at the moment I am working on gaining my coaching licence.
He is at present the unpaid manager of our under 16 tem and looking at reults he is doing rather well

England U21 play Norway in a hours time and its live on BT sport.
Chambers Holding Akpom and Hayden all in the Squad.
    What could ( should)have been
    Latter

  30. Marshall says:

Ion TH14 is teaching Lukaku, Origi, KDB and Hazard (picked the attacking players) how to escape their markers and am sure he’s giving them invaluable tips and morale. Which obviously they will use it in the premiere league and our forwards would really have used the same advice.

The media are not keen on Mark Halsey revelation since they are aware it will soil the premiere league brand which is not good for their business. They are willing to sell it as the best league and near perfect in the world and anything that is to the contrary is quickly dismissed. Let’s sweep it all under the carpet shall we?

  31. Marshall says:

Micko, lol. Like he sure isn’t the best ex-premiere league striker to learn from. Or maybe he can’t teach anything new at arsenal cause, you know, the master is still there.

  32. Le Coq Monster says:

Anyone remember watching Sanogo scoring 4 in the Emirates Cup ?………………………….it was like watching Jar Jar Binks !

  33. Marshall says:

Haha Sanogo guy, top top quality. And I think he scored a hat trick at ajax..or was it April 1st?

I bet he wouldn’t juggle his b*lls even if they are attached to him.

  34. kelsey says:

How to make quick money. The new Man U jacket for the public to buy is £350.00 but add the United bade and its £400.00. I can tell you from experience that in volume those badges are made in China for under a £sterling.
