Diaby games? Defender could sign today, but then again, I bet one doesn't!

Morning all,

Surprised by the omission of Diaby?

I was but I guess had Diaby started and got injured, Wenger probably knows he’d have to sign a replacement on transfer deadline day.

Or am I just being far too cynical?

We were undone. Not by skill, not by wonderful football and not by anything other than dreadful play by us.

Sound familiar?

Of course it does, we do it to ourselves time and time again and it costs points.

FOUR players made errors for their first goal, FOUR!!!

For their second, well it was another case of shocking defending. If only we had a Carragher kind of player, you know the one, he’ll lay any part of his body on the line to stop a goal.

Wenger was asked about about the dodgy display by our goalkeeper, and he said that the mistakes at the back are becoming ‘contagious’…..

How apt I thought, I will refrain from explaining why but how long will we have to wait until our defending is sorted out once and for all?

From 2-0 down, we salvaged a point, one which Giroud could have easily turned into three towards the end of the game.

Our first goal came from a free kick taken by Jack, and Giroud jumped well and fired his header home. Quality! The second was a thunderbolt from Theo which was too good for Reina.

Talking of their keeper, he made a few great saves during the game and earned his side a point. Down the other end, ours looked like he wanted to gift Liverpool all three points, some of the things he was doing was worse than Almunia ever did!

Personally, I thought our attacking play was good at times, at others it was even better but as so often happens, there were a few on the pitch who let the others down.

It’s the final day of the transfer window and Wenger has hinted that he maybe ‘active’.

We will try to be active, It won’t be easy but at the moment I have nothing to give to you unfortunately.

That has to utter poppycock, it’s the last day, not the first day! He and Gazidis or whoever, has had plenty of time to be looking at players, they have had time to be talking to other clubs. I am sure BT haven’t only installed a telephone system at the club!

With Gibbs now likely to be out for three weeks at least, and having seen Santos perform like the rear end of a horse in panto, Wenger hinted that he might try and sign someone today:

Yes. That’s how quickly football changes. Three days ago people told me we need strikers. Now, this time, we’re speaking about defenders. We’ll see what we can do.

I guess we will all see what he can do too but my hopes aren’t up too high….

He also said:

I cannot promise you any transfers. We work on it. We want an official extension of the window for one week.

Dear oh dear! Truth is, he could have another month and it wouldn’t make any difference!!

Have a good day all….

    Morning all.

Nice post on what was a shambolic display from the defence. Absolutely disgusting that they can be THAT bad. As much as I love Merts the man, Merts the player has now fallen out of favour with me by some distance. Sagna was average again. Not blaming him for the slip, but he wasn’t great. Santos…. C***. Vermaelen? Get the armband off him now as since he’s had it he’s been really bad. I wish I’d watched Romancing The Stone on TV in teh front room with the wife instead of watching that shower of shit.

And read this quote from Wenger this morning: “This squad is top, top level. We have to learn to trust these players again and to keep faith in them”. What… The …. Fuck.

  2. rockyrocastle07 says:

Oh, and Chezzer? I wish he was as good as he thinks he is. He came out and said recently he had stopped doing the stupid, flashy things and had started doing the basics properly and concentrating on that. Since when has trying to do a Cruyff turn in your own 6 yard box been the basics? Never. Unless you are Johann Cruyff. Wich Chezzer sure aint. We need a top class GK coach ASAP as it’s clear the ones we have ars simply not good enough.

  3. devilgunner says:

Good Morning my Esteemed Fellow Gunners.

Good Post Rico………..and no you were not being cynical in you r intro regarding Diaby. That was my feeling also.

AW………”I cannot promise you any transfers. We work on it. We want an official extension of the window for one week.”

Again……….We want an official extension of the window for one week.”

    Did I read correctly???

Does he know what he wants???

  4. rockyrocastle07 says:

Morning Rico. Sorry, it’s been winding me up all morning. Luckily, I managed to watch Romancing The Stone on the +1 channel……

  5. rockyrocastle07 says:

Dev, did he REALLY say that? If so, was it tongue in cheek? Is a month not long enough for him? WHy does he want a week extendion when he will do nothing for 5 days then either but a load of panic buys on the last day or STILL not buy anyone at all?

  6. rockyrocastle07 says:

Why were they not working on anything for the past 30 days other than the Walcott saga that should have been done outside the window? And why will players of “quality that will improve us” suddenly become available after 31 days, in the new extended window? The man is a fucking idiot.

  7. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning all, nice try Rico, must have been hard writing that. Lets face it Arsenal must be in shit street, who can watch what we have seen this season without buying players to improve the team. There can be no money thats the only answer. selling our best players must be keeping our heads above water, as no manager alive could sit through games like that and come out praising the spirit of the players. this team is about as good as the dodgy zip on his Arsenal overcoat. were strapped for cash so we must be in trouble and if we don’t buy its only going to get worse, trouble is we don’t have anybody worth selling so where do we go then.

  8. ArsenalDK says:

Morning everyone. I just read the interview from last night, and regarding the bad defensive display, wenger said:on why his defenders are nervous…
Because they want to do well and they want to win games. The games have massive importance for them and that’s why – because they want to do so well.
WTF? Does that even make sense??

  9. rico says:

Morning devil. Thanks and bloomin crazy isn’t it. If he’s not fit enough to be playing after Saturday, why are we still relying on him?

Rocky, you have nothing to be sorry about, I am livid.

Time and time again we see us defend like we are in panto, it’s embarrassing…!!

We are disorganised and we seriously lack a player who will protect the defence.

  10. rico says:

Chris Samba is off to Qpr, we could have signed him, he’s a player who will defend like he means it!!

Morning Adk & Sp, it was horrid!

Adk, when does he ever make sense these days?

  11. rockyrocastle07 says:

DK – It’s ridiculous isn’t it! SO when we keep clean sheets (thing of the past….) do they NOT want to do well? If you want to do well, you make sure your foot connects with the ball, not like Tommy V and his endless string of amazing air kicks.

  12. rockyrocastle07 says:

The matches have massive importance because we have played like c***s in too many games and are falling WAY behind everyone else, so now every game is a must win. Like it was yesterday. Which we didn’t win…..

  13. George says:

Couldnt agree more with you rocky.
We should write off Santos like Park. Actually play Rosicky Arshavin and Diaby and if they break, tough shit. They are getting paid and we are lumbered with the welsh version of Denilson pass it sideways.

As for Mert, everyone knows their gran will beat him in a race, so by putting the garbage that is Sagna and Santos either side of him is not helping him. As for TV5…smells like a tap up is going on behind the scenes. Would not be surprised to see him sold with Sagna.

Board have got to go and the behind the scenes coaching needs a major shake up. Bergy and Adams could do a job. Le prof needs cash, not for his wages , but to actually buy some decent players

Our goalie, is a good no 2 goalie. We should have got the Italian that done England in the Euros…Anyone??..Not Mannone…

We are still paying Chamakh squid Denilson and Bendtner wtf

We have good players on loan that will be sold cheap a la lansbury bartley and Emmanuel thomas?

    Anyone got David Deins number?

  14. Lee says:

Thank fuck we’ve got two players in every position….so three weeks of Santos at left back? It’s a shambles and Wenger thinks things are fine….err hello you deluded fool!

  15. rico says:

    Santos has said

‘Thanks for the support, I promise to improve and get back to my ideal game’

Go do that somewhere else I say, his ideal game belongs in the pub league!! He’d enjoy the chips afterwards!

  16. ArsenalDK says:

I know rocky… his contradictory statements make me furious.. I would love Begovic rico. As he’s quality and my compatriot at the same time 🙂

  17. dan says:

To be honest we got done because they had a free run at our defence. Wilshere ramsey and Carzola do not put fear in any team like having to get through a Scott Parker or diame type. I was starting to think maybe Wengar was doing a man u 8 nill or whatever to get some deals pushed though. A defensive midfielder is required urgently. Diarby can not relied upon. He will come good on his last year like Van pursy and Flamini.

  18. rico says:

    Welcome George, you mean Buffon?

We certainly need an older keeper to challenge Ches, in replace him more like….

  19. rico says:

I know Lee, fat bloody chance eh…

dan, have to agree that midfield scare no-one but the first goal was hideous.

  20. Scott from Oz says:

Wenger has today to save my opinion of him, not that it means much.
The only possible legitimate reason he will not buy is if Steve is correct and the cash is really not there, but if the club told us that, then at least we would know where we stand.
The truth is out there, but fuck knows where!!
On the first goal, i saw two mistakes, not 4.
Sagna slipped…it happens, but invariably we pay the ultimate price for it.
Merts and Vermaelen Stuffed up, end of.
Please, please do not suggest Ramsey was at fault, because that would simply be kicking him again for no reason.
If Wenger keeps saying the squad is top class, he is actually blaming himself for not getting them to produce………the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Ginge, i guy i played cricket with years ago was in the SAS.
    Quiet, unassuming and natures gentleman.
He only told me what he did when he failed to show up for a game, and i ripped into him for not letting me know.
When he told me, i backed down very meekly 🙂
He told me the Aussie soldier was the best trained and best equipped in the world, and he had trained everywhere.
A little Aussie spirit probably helps, as well.
Maybe Asenal need a few socceroos lol
Today is D day Arsene, do not let us down.
    Morning all.

  21. rockyrocastle07 says:

Santos’ ideal game is a human version of Hungry Hipppos, where you eat burgers instead of little balls.

  22. rockyrocastle07 says:

True George. It’s getting shambolic. Why don’t we go for Stekenberg (bad spelling I know but can’t be arsed to look him up)?

  23. rico says:

Hi Scott, the Emirates deal told us there was £30 million, but I doub’t that’s all there is in the kitty…

Just old Ebenezer won’t spend it because he believes that everything is ok and we have a top top squad.

  24. rico says:

    Ha ha Rocky…

S’berg is very unhappy where he is and wants out, he’d be a real possibility IF we had a manager with ambition…

  25. Scott from Oz says:

I have defended Szczesny relentlessly, as the talent is there.
He was terrible, and his cockiness needs to be shelved bigtime!!

  26. rockyrocastle07 says:

Scott. I agree, it wasn’t Rambo’s fault. Neither was the secont. It’s not his fault Santos is a complete fucktard. We do know though that Ramsey isn’t suited as a DM. He wasn’t bad last night. But we need better than average. But lets face it, none of what happened in yesterday’s debacle was his fault.

  27. rockyrocastle07 says:

Me too Scott. Always been a fan of him. Don’t know why he feels the need to showboat. He’s already at a big club, and is the no.1 choice. So who’s he trying to impress still?

  28. George says:

Id take any one of that standard , Buffon , Stekdutchblokeberg, that russian igor akinfeev..

or even Michel Vorm or Begovic would be good..

  29. Scott from Oz says:

Rocky, i say he is like Arteta….he can be effective in the DM role against some sides, but only some.
    We do need a beast.

  30. rockyrocastle07 says:

Al Habsi would even do me! What has happened to Akinfeev? He was banded around everywhere a few years back.

  31. rockyrocastle07 says:

A beast is good. A beast that knows his position and stays in the DM role is a must. Which rules out Diame.

  32. rockyrocastle07 says:

Wasn’t hard Scott! We all knew it was coming! Just like, at the end when Santos lunged in on someone and ended up on his arse, totally skinned, we knew that was about to happen!

  33. Scott from Oz says:

I will tell you guys something.
Australia has been prducing very good keepers for years now, decades even, and there are plenty of rippers plying their trade each week in the A League.
Obviously it is a big step up, but i see enough games in both leagues to know we have some who have everything required except the big game experience, and there is only one way to get that.
Frederici at Reading is not our best keeper, Schwarzer is still good but getting older.
We have a few who, given a chance, would do a job over there.

  34. Wavy says:

I notice no clubs have come to poach any of our available squad. Is that the reason we have no spare cash to invest?

  35. rico says:

The good thing about DD on Sky Sports is that they are not showing the lowlights from last nights game…

Wavy, selling Squilli would make little difference to our funds…

  36. George says:

i’m gonna need a grill man for my souvlakia this sunday…anyone got Santos number?

Ive got an apron and barby tools for him…

Scott, Reading has an excellent goalkeeping school. THey poached my U11’s goalie from the team i manage (Watford friendly league’s goalie of the year) and said he’d be 3rd choice for U12’s!. North london-reading …and they pay for him to train …

Not like our club who fine the players £500 for a cup of rosy lee…and get the Mert to collect..

Joke he couldnt stick 1 on suarez last night!

  37. rico says:

And mine and he certainly isn’t a DM… but it’s not his fault he has been asked to play there. Someone else is to blame for that….

  38. Scott from Oz says:

Rico, the money may be there, but it still needs to be made available.
It may well be, but that is the problem…it may….it may not….too much secret boys business going on.

  39. Scott from Oz says:

Ramsey has shown massive improvement of late simply because he is at least being played central.
Given a decent run, he would keep getting better.
He is better than a sauad player, or will be, imo.
    Geroge, interesting little tale.
Frederici is a good kepper, without question, but i would seriously rate three or four over here at least as good.

  40. Adam says:

Morning Rico, Rocky and anyone else that can actually summon up the interest to comment at the moment. There comes a point when you are forced to gaze upon something that you care for and admit that it is broken. Some Arsenal fans have been telling me that this is the case for, literally, years now. Some still can’t see it. Actually, I think they do see it but either can’t believe it or actually bring themselves to admit it. It is more than a shame, it’s a bloody tragedy. A comic tragedy.
In the scheme of things, perhaps not a big deal I think, but as far as Arsenal are concerned things are dire. Watching the game last night and listening to the crowd’s reaction to the first goal it was notable that most found it really quite funny. Like all great comedy there was more than a touch of pathos about it. But it was the inevitability of it all that got to us. The fulfilment of the expectation bought a kind of humorous relief to the whole proceedings. So, when Chesney decided to get into the act and try to gift the scousers another goal there was hardly a ripple of surprise, just a kind of warm glow that, but for the ineptitude of the woeful Sturridge, we could have been two down without Liverpool actually mounting an attack of note. Determined to readjust the balance our big German defender, growing more alarmingly inept by the game, rolled the ball to an opposition player a short while later offering him another golden opportunity to score. But no, this was also spurned.
As the second half began it became clear that the earlier arrival of Santos was after all, going to prove a high point of the evening’s comedic content. Still wearing the rear end of a pantomime horse he fully lived up to everybody’s expectations with a lesson in positional play where he completely reinvented the LB role thereby showing us a glimpse of the future. Then, something called a Jordan Henderson found himself inexplicably with the ball at his feet and only 4 Arsenal players and the goalkeeper to beat. No contest! Only the addition of Gervinho to the plot could have made it any funnier as The Henderson slotted the ball home after a carefully choreographed series of flailing limbs and ricochets. The only surprised person in the whole stadium was the boggle-eyed Henderson himself.
At this point I looked over towards the Arsenal bench. Some small flames were beginning to lick around the Citroen sponsored bucket seats and Arsene was actually playing La Vie En Rose on a fiddle. After that the entire Scouse team wore the look of 11 gas meter thieves, their pockets bulging with 50p pieces as they sat back, believing that, as Arsenal had been so gracious in giving them 2 goals and doing their best to make it 5, they would not be ungrateful guests and would leave it at that.
But then, right on cue, our team rallied and blasted a couple of excellent goals past the Scouse gits. A bit more belief perhaps or a wiley substitution would certainly have won the game as the opposition were well and truly shaken. Suarez, who had been building a dam any self-respecting fellow beaver would have been proud of, sat on the ground and waved his hands about a lot. Their manager, no doubt exhausted by his daily visits to the Old Bailey where his son is on trial for horrible sexual deviancy, got up and walked around. The air was filled with tension.
The minutes rolled by and it looked as though both teams would settle for a draw but Santos, playing with comedic expression not seen since Basil Fawlty abused some German tourists made one last great gesture by rolling the ball invitingly to a Liverpool player who obviously hadn’t read the script and our final attempt to offer all three points to a truly pathetic opposition was snubbed.
Handshakes were presumably exchanged but missed by the 40,000 people who had long since left and all that was left was the now-common ritual of our manager’s TV interview. Believe me, it wasn’t disappointing and contained all the classic Wengerisms and insults to the intelligence of all the fans. All in all a great night in the true tradition of these later years of Wenger’s reign. And in the light of the last few hours of another transfer window, marvellous entertainment.

  41. Bradster says:

    Hi all,

Reina’s distribution and kicking was awful. Agree Schezny’s performance was also shocking. We should’ve bought a keeper that has shown how good he is in one of the lesser teams.
Sagna seems afraid to cross first time and that’s why he gets closed down so quickly and hits the first defender. Perhaps we’re too slow to get into the box too so no one to aim at.
Suarez is the best defending striker I have ever seen. If only Walcott would do that unless he is actually a central striker and we’re short on the right.
We were also unlucky that Ramsey cleared the ball off Santos, I thought his last ditch tackles were top class last night.
Mert is costing us, as well as he reads the game, we can’t press and causes a gap if the defence sits back but mid field push

  42. emma says:

I don’t think signing of new players is the issue. We don’t have a leader in our defence. You don’t see anyone taking responsibility Our keeper is abysmal, Mertesacker has regressed badly, TV5 kung fu clearance for their first goal replica of what he did to gift the greedy dutchman a goal at old toilet. Santos don’t let me get started. We played 10 v 11 when Santos came in for Gibbs. We lost our attacking threat on the left hand side. The two goals we conceded were just comical. When will it stop, when are we going to make teams start working hard to get their goals. When are we going to realize that football is a game of 90mins and not 45mins. The best signing for us will be a ‘PSYCHOLOGIST’

  43. Steve says:

Saw a theory proposed on ANR this morning: The board are not sanctioning any transfers today because Wenger is on his way in the summer.

Wishful thinking ? Yes perhaps, but as Dr Goebels once said, ‘ if enough people believe something it must be true’.

    Keep smiling.

  44. tsGH says:

Scott U and the kiwis, south Africans,Fijians,Africans and Scotts make up 95% of our special forces…
And if AW was in the army he would be KBE’d for doing a lot with little like most of the squadies buying their own kit to fight for their country.
    DD AW do somehing
Ts are saying Brady and AW have fallen out.jokers they are…

  45. George says:

Why dont we play Jenks instead of Sagna, Use Yennaris who looks decent..Jernade Meade looked ok? in the meantime… Eisfeld anyone?

  46. rockyrocastle07 says:

Pure poetry Adam! Bravo! And Bravo for taking one for the team and actually going to watch that tripe yesterday

  47. Scott from Oz says:

I think we are being a little harsh on Merts.
Yes, he is in Absolutely shocking form of late, but he hasn’t lost his ability.
The major problem with our out of form players is nobody to replace them!

  48. rockyrocastle07 says:

TS – what have special forces got to do with footballers?! Not sure I quite made the commection there. Are they more stealthy in the way they go about playing? Or do they need sanctioning by the PM before taking to the pitch each game?

  49. George says:

An Aussie Cheick tiote wouldnt go amiss in Midfield lol…

A proper lump that cant pass the ball or try a trick but can gun down the marauders…

yes , he’d pick up bookings but we arent palying for the fair play trophy..

  50. rockyrocastle07 says:

Scott, I don’t think we are being harsh on Merts. Adam, Lee and Kev know I love the guy as I am always sticking up for him whenever we meet up and talk about these issues. But he is going backwards fast (well, as fast as his giraffe-like legs will carry him). He’s been at fault so much lately. The ineptness of those around him won’t be helping, but the guy cannot turn and run. Which is an issue if you are holding a high line, or if someone skins you. Which is what is happening more and more. He doesn’t win enough headers and is easily out-muscled.

  51. George says:

rico, funny you should say that…he’s a tidy player…was looking up Le Fondre and he’s scored goals eveerywhere , just he’s a soft touch

  52. Scott from Oz says:

Rocky, i am just suggesting he is in a slump.
Not long ago, he was our best defender.
This is where squad depth would allow him a spell, but we can’t do it.

  53. rockyrocastle07 says:

He was our best defender Scott…. Unfortunately, that doesn’t take much doing at the mo. He is indeed in a slump. Unfortunately, the whole defensive uniot is in one massive combined slump.

  54. rico says:

emma – i think it’s a bit of both, another defender and DM would push players for their places and bring out the best in them, if there is more to come…

Nice idea Steve, but not convinced he’s ready to go…

George, we have been saying similar here for a while.

Merts – I don’t think we are being that harsh, he’s awful right now and his pace, or rather lack of it is clear to all.

As for turning his back on shot, dreadful, and made worse after watching Carragher take one in the stomach which was a rocket….

But who replaces him, Kos? He’s having an equally bad time and can’t seem to play well alongside the captain. Oh, and he’s poor this season too….

  55. This is a joke says:

Wenger is like a parent who doesn’t want any confrontation, so he uses phrases like “We’ll see what we can do” knowing full well that he’s not gonna do a damn thing. Arsenal is JAM PACKED with mediocre players like Gervinho, Ramsey, Santos and yet Wenger has faith in them. If we sold those 3, I bet we could get at least 2 quality players (quality doesn’t cost much if you look in the right places).

  56. Scott from Oz says:

Rico, i am not saying peoples criticism of Merts form is harsh, but he is not absolutely useless, he’s just in absolutely useless form 🙂

  57. rico says:

That’s all I am saying too Scott, you asked me that a few days ago and I said that I always speak in the ‘here and now’… And right now, he is rubbish…

Adam, it was, could have saved me writing a post 🙂

  58. TimG says:

My theory on Sagna: He must have an iron head. Not only does he have an increasing tendency to knock out people who challenge him for headers, but it would explain why he keeps falling over: having such a high Centre of Gravity…

  59. Scott from Oz says:

Yep Rico, and with some bloody squad depth, he could go back and get some confidence.
As it stands, he just gets played, and his confidence cops an even bigger beating.

  60. rico says:

DM and a defender today and I’d be happier….

What is the story about Bergkamp then, is he really thinking about replacing Brady?

  61. gunnernet says:

    Morning gunners.

There are some reports suggesting Arsenal have made a big push for David Villa and Sky Bet made them 3/1 favourite and pushed City out to 6/1 to sign him this window.

Probably BS though.. A LB should be top priority now.

  62. gunnernet says:

Hummels is going nowhere Rocky. He is a real class defender and won’t leave Dortmund in the middle of the season. Besides Dortmund would be reluctant to do business involving him, since his price could only raise till the summer and jokes aside Dortmund may be a better team than ours right now. Much more solid and with more chances to progress further in CL.

  63. rockyrocastle07 says:

We don’t need forwards. WHy get one in and knock Girouds confidence when he has just got up and firing? Get some fucking defenders and a dm!

  64. Adam says:

If Wenger can’t get our present team playing with any degree of confidence or consistency I really can’t see why adding more players to play under his direction and philosophies could possibly achieve.

  65. Scott from Oz says:

We definitely need a DM at least.
A versatile back who can play central and left would be great.
Rocky is right….our forwards are starting to fire, so why kill the confidence?

  66. rockyrocastle07 says:

True G’net. He probably knows that AW would deploy him as an AM or winger giver Wengers previous…. And he knows his career would enter a tailspin of despair. And he probably thinks zonal marking is gash.

  67. rockyrocastle07 says:

True Adam… but half the players are shit. At least buying quality players give us a fighting chance.

  68. rockyrocastle07 says:

So wenger considers bringing in a left back…. You have to ask yourself what sort of player he’s bring in, seeing as Gibbs is his long-ternm numero uno. My guess is a slight improvement on the BBQ monster that played last night.

  69. rockyrocastle07 says:

Shame Wenger didn’t drag Rogers and Jose Enrique into his office and try and do a deal there and then last night.

  70. gunnernet says:

Ramsey at DM role kills all the chances of acquiring a DM/ box-to-box player/CM. AW said he has 2 players at each position.

    Wilshere Diaby Cazorla
    Arteta Ramsey Rosicky
    Cockelin

Don’t expect him to buy a midfielder. The only realistic target is a LB. I wish we could get rid of Squillaci, Santos and even Arshavin if we bought an attacker.

  71. rockyrocastle07 says:

There was one point very late on in the match yesterday (last minute or so) where our attak broke down, and the ball was played just in front of or behind Cazorla and he basically just stopped, turned and walked away…. while the ball was still there to be won. It sums up the whole attitude at the moment with only one or 2 players trying to break the mould.

  72. gunnernet says:

Galata may be in for Santos Scott. I wish they got him alongside his fat salary and ass back to Turkey and i would compromise with the idea of TV playing left. He is playing awfully at the moment at CB either way.

Just seen the headline on NewsNow “Podolski: We can still overtake Chelsea”. Upos clicking the link (Once the tears of laughter had subsided and dried from my eyes) the page came up saying “We are unable to access the page” and that it “may have been removed or deleted”. Maybe the fact that the statement was so preposterous, that no-one at the Standard wanted to be responsible for it. Or they realised today wasn’t April Fools Day after all…..

  74. rockyrocastle07 says:

G’net – Yeah I know… But he won’t get anyone in now that is good and may hinder the progress of him so he can play next year. And get sent off for reckless challenges once a month.

  75. gunnernet says:

Well Rocky don’t forget that Chelsea are also in apalling situation right now. They drop points far too easily and they still try to make things work out. And last season we overtopped them why not this year? If we sort out our increasingly annoying individual defensive errors then there is a good chance reaching them.

  76. Adam says:

Hi Kev, many thanks. It’s hard to take it all seriously when the club clearly don’t have any intention of doing so.
When you look around the PL it beggars belief what is happening at Arsenal. In the years to come and the history of these past years is written there will be a number of red faces and feelings of embarrassment though these will no doubt be tempered by copious bank balances. This will be looked back on as the time everything changed. We are living through Arsenal history.

  77. Gunner-Mac says:

Only 11 hours till this window closes, And out of the 20 EPL teams there are Six clubs that so far have not added to their squads….
Man city, Aston villa, Everton, Stoke city, West brom And Arsenal.
What odds that we will be the only club with no new additions by 11pm tonight??

  78. gunnernet says:

Fenerbahçe asked Arsenal about André Santos yesterday, but are now working on Reto Ziegler deal instead. Will be cheaper.

    Shit!

  79. Adam says:

    Breaking news from Arsenal:
Ivan Gazidis has ordered fillet steak, pommes frites and asparagus for lunch along with a nice claret. After placing the order Gazidis sat back in his enormous leather chair with a satisfied smile on his face and farted.
It was a beautiful moment said his secretary.

  80. rockyrocastle07 says:

g’net – was that after watching Santos yesterday, do you think?!

Chelsea ate still a much better team than us. There’s no getting away from that.

  81. Adam says:

Rocky. Yes, it smelled so heavenly the club are going to package it and sell it to the fans alongside a CD chronicling the speeches of Arsene Wenger and the derisory statements of Peter Hill-Wood. The packaging is amazing. The lid looks like Kroenke’s syrup and at the push of a button, lifts to release the aroma. The whole package is named Le Victoire.

  82. gunnernet says:

lol at Rocky 12:25. But they have already seen him against Brighton. Last night they confirmed he is pure shit.. 🙂

  83. rockyrocastle07 says:

Wow Adam. I hope they ask for a ridiculous amount of money for that! What a treasured gift that would be. I do have a birthday coming up…….

  84. Lewis says:

When are we as fans actually going to stand up and force change? This can’t continue! The board don’t care, they need to go. Sry to say it but Arsene is absolutely clueless and needs to go. Liverpool, after years of being shite are now better than us and They are still an average side. But they do have 1 world class player, which we don’t.
I posted this last night and shortly after (or during, I couldn’t watch as was at work) we scored 2 goals to equalise and for some unknown reason felt like I had ‘egg on my face’ for my comments. Upon reflection I stand by what I wrote, apart from Liverpool being better. They are still fucking rubbish but we are on par. I will not spend another penny on AFC until some serious investment is realised. Meaning players that will help us compete, as with every one of the 8 trophy less years we have players there who are good, add some steel and top quality and we would be a force. I think that’s what pisses me of the most we could be pretty good but the powers thatbe won’t spend a fucking thing to improve the squad. How can he say there isn’t a player available at the moment who couldn’t improve our poor excuse for a defence, or give the attack some extra potency. Also just cut our bloody loses with all the shite we have out on loan, I mean for fuck sake, we have a whole squad of league one standard players on out books that we can’t get rid of.
    Fucking driving me mental.

  85. allezkev says:

I am just enjoying a very delicious and refreshing cup of char…
Now who have we signed whilst I have beem away.

    Villa?

    Shaw?

    Hummeis?

    Superman?

    Now don’t mess about, i’m serious….

  86. southyorkshiregunner says:

Rocky – Szez is the Polish equivalent of Bendtner.
    Arrogant.

Lewis – When we had 3 world class players we were saddled with shite within our first 11. Denilson-Eboue-Song-Almunia-Diaby

Now we have ridded ourselves of the shite within our first 11 – we have no world class players… World Class Players raise the bar – they can make things happen within the team…

  87. rockyrocastle07 says:

SYG – Pod & Little Jack are the closest we have to that. Cazorla has really gone off the boil lately. He’s turning into Mt Anonymous.

  88. allezkev says:

Ah, SYG, I did hear, the other day, that they are using a similar tunneling machine on the Crossrail link, to the one that they used on the Channel Tunnel.
Apparantly they are going deeper with this tunnel, burrowing under all the existing mish-mash under London?

  89. Joaquim moreira says:

    afternnon all!
so, the usually news. Tomorrow is another day. We must be concentrate for next challenge and hope Gervinho could be back in two weeks..

  90. southyorkshiregunner says:

Gunner Mac there are bloggers who have been on here who would welcome Eboue back…
They’d also take Heskey in a shot … and Ade Akinbiyi too ….

  91. allezkev says:

Hi Le Rock, it’s the anticipation that gets to me mate.

Waiting for that big suprise, on a plate.

    Er, that’s the kebab… 😉

  92. allezkev says:

Well I thorougly enjoyed that cuppa.

I now look forward to all the cyber celebration’s later this afternoon and this evening, as Ivan the Unable swoops into the market, brandishing his chequebook, like a sabre….

    Lata Gooners.

    Afternoon Gooners & Rico btw.

  93. southyorkshiregunner says:

Hiya Kev. The majority of large dia. tunnelling in London has to be at depth due to existing services ……
The proposed Thames Tideway Tunnel will be at between 50-75m in depth ….

About 20 years ago there was a microtunnel – that’s a tunnel below 1.5m in dia. driven by a TBM with a pipe being rammed up its arse and which is operated from the surface which got lost … it got jacked into an unmapped underground cavern … There are loads of these under the city – one of the reasons new tube and sewer tunnels go so deep ……

If you want boring anymore, no probs … I’m over running the gym in Scunthorpe today !!!

  99. potter says:

Adam your summation of the crowds reaction last night was spot on. All that was missing from club level was Stadler and Waldorf but then we realised the Muppets were sitting pitch side in two overgrown sleeping bags

  100. Ryan L says:

Has Wenger managed to find anyone who is of better quality than what we already have yet? Yeah, you know, like better than Santos?

  101. southyorkshiregunner says:

I saw that on Twitter g-net.
They must have had scouts watching him v Brighton and Liverpool…

  102. gunnernet says:

Apparently Valencia-fake club plays in Ligue 1. Bong is a Cameroon international. I would very sceptical adding a Cameroonian whose name ends -ong. The previous one was a clown and now a bench warmer clown.. No more shit players pls.

  103. gunnernet says:

btw who would prefer if you had no alternative? Song or Ramsey as a DM? That’s a tricky one isn’t it?

  104. potter says:

Amorebiatta ( I think ) is available from Athletico Bilbao , an over 6 foot left footed Centre/left back. apparently a bit of an animal Spanish under 21 born in Venezuela .

  105. vida says:

According to reliable Spanish expert Graham Hunter – Arsenal could make a last minute swoop for Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta.
2 in 1 player. Wenger sort of deal

  106. gunnernet says:

Younes Belhanda’s move from Montpellier to Fenerbahce appears to have collapsed, reviving speculation he could make a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal and Spurs both reportedly interested.

    One could only dream..

  107. Wavy says:

And we’re going to sign Bong’s mate, Billy! And then we are chasing a guy called Weed! Put them all together and we can go down to the billabong and smoke some shit!
Sadly our kind of crap we have far too much of already!
What we need is a raid to clear out all the cash addicts

  108. rockyrocastle07 says:

I wish Stewart Robson would keep his unwanted bullshit opinions to himself. He was a mad West Ham fan growing up, continued to be (apparently) while growing up and still is now. Go and talk about those mugs you little prick.

  109. Mike says:

    Hello fellow Gooners!

Wenger’s Era has almost never been under the light for his attacking side, but, after Sol Campbell and Kolo Toure left we have never been able to have a strong defense.

I must speak up what is being a real issue with Arsenal.

We do not buy class defenders because they don’t have a financial interest for the board. Senderos, Squillacci, Mertesacker don’t have the guts to put their body on the line to save their team.
I remember AW speaking about Lauren as a fighter, well I would advise that we get a FIGHTER for our central defense.

We need someone who is eager to feel the game and ready to leave flesh on the floor.

I personnally don’t appreciate Mertesacker, and I think that guy is average for another kind of game, he doesn’t have the
    engagement for the EPL. In other terms he’s average but falls on important times, that doesn’t give you any excuses to me Mr Mert;
in fact it shows me how far he is from Bully English defenders who jump, slide and defend with their whole self.

Williams from Swansea or Hummels from Dortmund would be great add…

    BUY DEFENDERS AFC !!!!!

  110. Ryan L says:

Sky Sports don’t even have anyone at either The Emirates or Shenley, due to the fact they would have been grossly underemployed with nothing to say !!

  111. Adam says:

Rocky. You have mentioned Ms Sawyer a few times now. Don’t you think her dresses are a bit tight? And that raven black hair? A touch too much pikey about it?

  112. rockyrocastle07 says:

Haha!! She knows I have a penchant for her, Rico!! Generally just rolls her eyes at me whenever she’s on tv! She can’t see the attraction…. I on the other hand, can!

  113. potter says:

Adam there’s a kind of surreal acceptance about the place, I believe the “””Audience “”””has grown ( or do I say Groan ) to accept it’s fate.

  114. rockyrocastle07 says:

Adam, wash your mouth out. It’s actually (somehow) Mrs. Matterface these days…. No, the dresses aren’t tight enough! Leave her be…. you’re not going to change my mind on that one!

  115. rockyrocastle07 says:

Ryan. I know. Thay could have at least sent the Work Experience lad down there! He wouldn’t have to do anything but it at least may give us hope that something will happen!

  116. Adam says:

Potter. Absolutely. We all know there is pain to be heaped upon pain to come. Does anybody really believe that Wenger is going to rise again? He has downgraded his own expectations through the fans and the fire that once burned is a flickering flame now. I really do believe that the responsibility he has taken upon himself has caused him to lose sight of his prime responsibility to win football matches and trophies. These have become incidental to his main role these days which is as the self appointed conscience of football and Arsenal accountant, sage and chief bottle washer. Yes, one can point to the evil Stan Kroenke and the sinister Gazidis and also mention the crass and rather disgustingly repellent Hill-Wood, but they didn’t buy all the average players that litter this Arsenal team. They haven’t steadfastly refused to do something about the defensive shambles that we see during every game for years and years now. There are some things that are Wenger’s responsibility and while we might debate how they could be addressed, the fact that stares us in the face is that they are not being sorted out at all. I think the reason is that he can’t sort them out. He has lost the ability to see the wood for the trees. Everything for Wenger is viewed through the prism of the bigger picture and that picture is Arsene Wenger and his need to be right about everything, all the time. After the horror show of his performance against the mighty Brighton, who else would have put Santos on for Gibbs last night instead of slotting Koscielny in and moving TV to left back? Santos very nearly cost us the draw. I think Wenger did it because he bought Santos and not to put him on would have been uncomfortable. Who else would sit and watch YET another transfer window slip by while still mouthing the same old mixture of shite and downright lies to the fans? I really hope that Wenger doesn’t go into the last year of his contract as he always said was not the right thing to do. We need a younger man with a new backroom staff and with new ideas and an absolute burning desire to take Arsenal back to where it should be. Never again should a manager be allowed to assume so much power.

  117. rico says:

Something far more interesting for you. I am sat with 3lbs of brussel sprouts in front of me.

No, not to eat, but to prepare for freezing for the summer months 😛

  118. rockyrocastle07 says:

I was gonna say Rico….! Make sure you go to bed with the windows open in the bedroom tonight…. No hot-boxing!

  119. gunnernet says:

“Mohamed Diame is allegedly at West Ham’s HQ to sign a new contract.”

That’s our lot for today guns. No Diame, no Villa for sure. Well i am done for now. Maybe i will come back later. I can’t take anymore blows… 🙁

  120. rico says:

Rocky, veggies have little affect on veggies…. Or should that be effect, I always get that wrong….

    😆 Adam…

    Hi agag, rubbish isn’t it….

  121. agirlagunner says:

    rico, Brussel sprouts. 😕 😉

Shame on our management for not signing anyone. No ambition, none.

Hello, all. Adam, you’re on a roll. 😉 Hiya, rocky and Lee.

  122. rockyrocastle07 says:

I always check that before I postaffected/effected Rico!! In the back of my mind, I can just see Adam shaking his head at it in disgust if I use the wrong one!!

  123. rockyrocastle07 says:

and the fact I missed the space between post and affected in the above will be brought up tonight at Curry Club!

  124. Ryan L says:

Great post at 2.49 Adam – hit the nail on the head there. He has almost himself turned into everything that is wrong with some young footballers today i.e. become rich and lazy, with downgraded aspirations and the arrogance to not see any of those things in himself or his actions. Then just to mock us all with the cherry on top he entangles all of the above with lies.

    Joy !!

  125. rico says:

So can I Rocky, we are bad aren’t we…

Butland to Stoke has been done. £5 million, we have faffed up there…

  126. Adam says:

Agag. I am here with a burning staff in my hands ( no cracks Rico and Lee) filled with righteous indignation. Filled with the collective anger of hundreds of thousands of other Arsenal fans I am mightily pissed off.

  127. frednerk says:

    Breaking news;
Wenger just spotted coming out of a Pie and Mash shop,
just off Green Street, followed by Sam Allardyce

When asked if any transfer business had taken place,
Fat sam was quick to say are you joking mate,
Wenger just turned up for a free lunch.

  128. rico says:

Arsenal have not been mentioned once today on SS’s – what a joke eh…

No CL footie next season, that’s for sure…

If it gets the club sorted out finally, then good!!

  129. agirlagunner says:

Hey ya, rocky. Quite depressed bout our club… and ended up buying myself a consolation present. 😀

    Such hubris, AW. 😡

rico, on a happy note, the dog who was at the vet is now back home. 🙂 🙂

  130. Adam says:

Agag. Good news on the dog. What prize did you award yourself?
Rico. You know I worship at the shrine rear-of-the-year CV herself. The only size 14 who fits so awfully into a size 10. Mrs Adam is a size 22 so I am something of an expert in these matters. 🙂

  131. southyorkshiregunner says:

Nothing happening at the bookies that should concern us …. The best odds we got on anyone is 11/8 David Villa …….

They got us in at 20/1 for both Negredo and Gomis, but that’s all that’s new….

If they knew who that fcukng Bong bloke was maybe they’d give us a 2/1 on that….

it’s a disgrace a team like us are having to rely on the bargain basement

  132. Wavy says:

Wenger’s affect (his actions when applied to others) on the transfer market has been nil. The effect (outcome on others) he this has had on the fans has been totally negative.
    Affection= a kiss!

Effect= a slap, or a kiss in return.

Depends whether you are Natalie Sawyer, or not!,

  133. agirlagunner says:

It’s a girl thing to file away for future reference ALL sorts of things. Works to our favor, I must say. 😀

  134. Gunnerdna says:

Why sign anyone when every matchday 60 thousand turns up to watch games at the Ems and the biggest banner in the stadium reads “In Arsene we trust”. Aw got to b thinking he is doing something right. Only the supporters can change things and if things stay the same we r all deluded.

  135. Adam says:

Agag. Mrs Adam has asked me to ask what you have treated yourself to. At the moment she likes the Roberto Cavalli dress that she saw Liz Hurley wearing recently.

  136. ozgunner10 says:

evening all – this guy that wants the week extension to the transfer window – is that the same guy that wants the January window abolished?

  137. agirlagunner says:

Robert Clergerie shoes, Adam. 🙂 Cavalli has super colorful stuff; lots of animal prints, too. 🙂

I quite like that tunnel idea, except that I’d want AW, IG, et al. around so that I can leave them there.

rico, I see. 🙂 We don’t have many British brands here.

  138. ozgunner10 says:

either Bould has a serious drinking issue or Wenger is ignoring him. I froze the frames a dozen times on this game showing my lads how far apart our CB were at times – what the hell is going on Bould knows better – he played under a coach that used to tie them together in training to show how to defend properly

  139. ozgunner10 says:

how’s his move of he cutting short the interview the other day because he’s so busy in the transfer market hahaha really must think we are mugs

  140. Adam says:

Agag. Those shoes are a bit “wedgey” for Mrs Adam who has hooves instead of feet. She prefers flats but wishes she could wear those.

  141. ozgunner10 says:

rocky – or maybe working out next seasons pay rises for the musketeers considering how he’s saved the transfer kitty again.

  142. southyorkshiregunner says:

Adam can you remember the pre-season before Rioch was sacked …. Unaware of his own impending departure he allegedly tried to sign over a dozen quality players ….. one of who was Alan Shearer, and the board refused him the money ….
…..Yet when he was sacked they bought Viera …
….The only player that came in in that preseason was the resigning of John Lukic on a “free”….
…Maybe, the money is being stashed away for Ancelotti, Mourinho…..

    …………….or Tony Adams .. lol.

  143. frednerk says:

    oz
Quiet clear to me after last night, what tactical films wenger has the players watching before a game.

I think it’s called..The Best of Keystone Cops

  144. southyorkshiregunner says:

agag … my wife’s got a fetish re: shoes ….
…The delivery man from Modatoi.com is always delivering at our house …. No lie… she must have around 100 pairs and she regularly has a clear out every couple of years …

  145. agirlagunner says:

We have become an embarrassment. Ick. Why does nobody at our club seem to care? Stan is the worst thing to happen to us, I think.

Adam I saw some Fratelli Rosettis for 40 USD. Wedgey though. I’ll make sure to be on the lookout for stuff for Mrs Adam.

  146. southyorkshiregunner says:

Liverpool’s goals would go well with the end credits of the Benny Hill show … or the fcukng Banana Splits …. BOING !

  147. Adam says:

I do remember that Oz. Wenger delivered in spades when he came in didn’t he but these days he has cashed in onnthe fans historical goodwill and used that credit. Even if, at the very least, he would address our ongoing defensive frailties. But where he has left himself now is going nowhere.
I find it interesting how a young manager with new and fresh ideas, like Pochetino has inspired the Southampton players. Even that repulsive, toxic old dog Fergie admitted Man U were lucky last night as Southampton really came at them in numbers. It’s early days for him I know but when you consider the shit sandwich we have served up this year I can’t help but yearn for an injection of ambition and drive like they seem to have. Wenger is stale and morbidly depressing these days. He has lost touch with the fans who rightfully feel betrayed by him. Supporting Arsenal now is boring and predictable and his press conferences are cringeworthy. I would love the chance to respectfully question him over the debacle he now presides over but, seeing as I have never managed a team I imagine he would fall back on his usual “you can’t question my record I am the great Arsene Wenger schtick”. And they reckon Real Madrid want him? How long would he last there?

  148. ozgunner10 says:

syg – oh so Wenger delivered on his promise of being busy after all then – must of took months to negotiate that move

  149. Wavy says:

    1547:
    ARSENAL LATEST
BBC Sport’s David Ornstein reports that Arsenal are hopeful of signing a left-back before the transfer window closes to cover for Kieran Gibbs, who is out for three weeks with a thigh injury.

Arsenal retain their interest in Barcelona striker David Villa but the ball is firmly in the Spanish club’s court. Ornstein, who has comeinto work wearing a suit such is the magnitude of the day, says that Arsenal have also been linked with Cameroon international Gaetan Bong of Valenciennes.

Can somebody explain to me what this means, please?

  150. agirlagunner says:

We should make a cheeky bid for Torres. 😀 😀

I shall, rocky. 🙂 I signed up for all sorts online shopping updates. 😀

  151. southyorkshiregunner says:

Nice one agag. Julie leaves the house or the bar (when in Cyprus) when I watch Arsenal … saying that, even the dog lays at the back door for an early exit ….

….She claims to hate football …. saying that she always made sure all the matches were videotaped when I was at work mining and she let me know when we’d bought Alan Smith and told me when Rocky had died …

  152. ozgunner10 says:

i would like a quid for every time over the years i have asked that same ‘madrid’ style question mate – i think the game has simply passed him by, tactically certainly you see average teams with average managers now outplaying him often while he sits there with head in hands doing nothing, his teams like himself if you think about it, have become very inconsistent. So i agree with your post as usual mate – we so desperately need a change at all levels and especially his because if we can move him i think the others will follow

  153. rockyrocastle07 says:

News from Arsenal: Gazides just popped to the loo for a crafty rub after this months edition of Razzle was delivered to him a short while ago.

Wenger was in the next trap along having another crap.

  154. Wavy says:

I thought we weren’t going to sign any body today. Have I got it wrong?
A bong -marvellous. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Only a dope would believe this is going to happen.

And as for the chances of a marquee signing, well I’m on tenterhooks anticipating the prospects of what is to come! A new Villa perhaps?

Come on Arsenal make this a happy new year!

  155. rockyrocastle07 says:

Thanks agag! If anything decent comes along, grab my email address from Rico and send them on please!

  156. ozgunner10 says:

syg – i read somewhere where Wenger didn’t want to pressure chez with such a signing as Steklenburg i think – competition for places!!! whatever next – intolerable!!

  157. southyorkshiregunner says:

I think he has to Oz. I really do.
I like Sczez however as mentioned … he has an arrogance on par with that of Bendtner… Maybe he is helping put undue pressure on his back four? The pissing around in his own area with the ball is a definite no-no

  158. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Breaking news ….

Guilleme Ballague recommends the food in the Witchery near Edinburgh Castle … and Eden Hazard’s 3 match ban won’t be increased ….. borrrrring

  159. Adam says:

    Looks very nice SYG.
What are the tunnelling prospects like on the island? 🙂 hard rock I would imagine.
I went to Protaras once. Fig Tree Bay if I remember rightly. It was unbelievably hot. Really unbelievably hot and quite unhealthy for mortal man.

  160. ozgunner10 says:

oh well its hearing 1am and i am up tiling the bathroom at 7 – ahh cant wait to meet you all here tomorrow talking about how Wenger has finally rectified some of our glaring issues and how amazed and happy we are he’s still here – Happy Days zzzz

  161. rico says:

So basically then, Beckham has signed for PSG so that his wife can live in London and travel to France to promote her ‘fashion stuff’..

    Smart move….

  162. southyorkshiregunner says:

Hard rock is great for tunnelling in Adam. Drill up the face and use explosives and millisecond detonators….

Protaras is a ghost town outside of June-Sept. Basically a street for the holidaymakers ….

  163. agirlagunner says:

Nice, SYG. 🙂 On the wife, the house, and the honeymoon. 🙂

Pathetic. Can’t even get Stekelenburg. I’m all out of patience with Chesney

    I will, rocky; I will. 🙂

  164. tsGH says:

The same Ancellotti with the French galactic but can’t still win an inferior league after spending like confetti and sitting 2nd in ligue 1? 😉

Amorebieta, is a tad slow SYG. Very solid left footed CB but more a BFG type than a TV. At 27 maybe the experience we need to shift TV to the lb position

  165. tsGH says:

    Enjoy SYG in Paris…

Amorebieta will definitely add aggression to our backline or DM position if he is turned into the new Petite..

  166. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Hiya Ginge. I don’t know a thing about him…
Has anyone picked up on Miguel getting an U21 call up …. Maybe its about time to break him into the back four?

  167. tsGH says:

I like Miguel SYG… a (Arsenal) badge kissing Spanish international who considers himself English now…

I completed a CSTC3 (confined) today. Very enjoyable but with my luck the breathing apparatus run out of gas half way in the dark…

  168. tsGH says:

Adam a cross between Razor, Denis Wise and Cygan if you like… 😉

I doubt anything will come of it though…

I still think Miguel with his height is a very good option for LB

  169. Wavy says:

    Amorebieta

That just about takes the biscuit! Well nearly. A homonym?

But can he play football? Left, right and/or centre?

  170. Joaquim Moreira says:

I know well Amorebieta. Is a good defender but sometimes sent off. Mostly of the games he has got a yellow card. He is not very quickly but very agressive. He doen’t give space for the opponent. He is not soft. He was born in Venezuela but the parents are Bascos. so he can plays in The Athletic

  171. southyorkshiregunner says:

Miguel looks a very elegant player, Ginge…. Has to be a better option than Santos…

I’d take Cabaye and Ben Arfa, Fred. I’d take Debuchy and Mbwia as well.

  172. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Eurobot:

And how about this: Spanish newspaper AS say that Malaga left-back Nacho Monreal is on his way to London as well to complete a move to Arsenal!

  173. rockyrocastle07 says:

Just heard that while playing for PSG, Beckham is donating all of his wages to a local Parisian Childrens Charity. Just when you thought this guy couldn’t get any better, he goes and does that. Legend. Arise, sir Becks!

  174. rockyrocastle07 says:

SYG – no. Nasri would probably go to the local orphanages in the dead of night, sneak in and steal everything from the building.

  175. rockyrocastle07 says:

Apparently, according to the Wiki page, he has already wiped his arse 3 times on the Spuds shirt…. That’ll do me!!

  176. goonster says:

nacho libre? isnt that a mexican wrestler? played by jack black? what is he doing signing for us? christ help me!

  177. Wavy says:

So we are about to sign the ‘new Petit’ and the ‘new van Bronkhorst’? Or am I living inan oasis in Algeria?

Believe it when I see it!

  178. rico says:

Rocky, is that him being a left sided defender…

I do believe that someone has altered wikki though………

  179. goonster says:

so is he coming for real??? the last thing i wanna see is santos laughing at my karma at the pearly gates!

  180. rockyrocastle07 says:

Wavy – well we already have the new Denilson in Ramsey, the new Eddie McGoldrick in Gervinho and the new Stepanovs/Cygan partnership in Vermaelen/Merts, so why not?!

  181. rockyrocastle07 says:

Me too Rico. The guy’s amazing. The look on his face as he was driving the boat during the Olympics opening ceremony was the highlight for me!

  182. Wavy says:

Fair enough. We are on the up then cos those pairings were years in front of their peers!!!!,

Now if it they were the new Adams and Cole then we really would have something to celebrate.

  183. tsGH says:

    I wish I was not invited so… 😉

I am having a challenging year thus far… I had to do an inpromptu training for working in confined spaces to ‘crawl’ through some of the tunnels (underneath london) Adam would like to be waiting him for AW… 😀

  184. tsGH says:

I think Monreal news may have some news because this morning someone reported that a spanish player who looks like Alves was seen with Boro

  185. tsGH says:

AW has left the training ground… so I think no signings until next summer.

He still drives the same car he was seen in 2 years ago…what does the man do with his money?

  186. devilgunner says:

Good Evening my Esteemed Fellow Gunners.

Why Nacho? Why not Luke Shaw? Why spend 8million on a s6 year old when that could have been used on Luke Shaw who can play anywhere in the back line.

I know he is experienced but Shaw would have been a better bet imo.

  187. tsGH says:

Hunter just said on sky Arsenal and Malaga had agreed to a deal already for the summer b ut they called this morning to bring the deal forward…

  188. tsGH says:

AW is a sly fox… so he has been poaching all the malaga team on the down low…

Bein are also saying AW has poached Capoue for next season that is why Ettiene refused to talk to PSg when an enquiry was made…

  189. tsGH says:

Hi Dev, the new owner refused to sell Shaw. They do not need the money.

The same as the oilers lost out on Willem who just moved to Anzhi…

money talks but Arsenal will never spend over £10M on a defender. Considering the saints shafted us on the Ox deal.

  190. goonster says:

so is the deal still on or what????? stop making me dizzy ginge you little creep. make up your mind. jeez i need me a drink!

  191. tsGH says:

…. on the Becks salary donation spin… without seeming bitter or twisted, I have no respect for all these celebrity charity crap… do you know how much tax relief they get back and benefits they get given for allegedly doing charity work? Bono etc… its all a scum. I rather someone gave$10 from their own pocket that do this charity endorsement rubbish and laundering…

  192. devilgunner says:

But why for next season? We need Capoue right now not next season. Why throw the season out now? Capoue could have plugged our defense 100%.

  193. tsGH says:

It looks like it Goonie but AW has left Colney and so have MA08 and SC19 so…until the ink starts to dry on our letter headed document you never know.

    international clearance too..

  194. tsGH says:

Dev that is what we fail to understand sometimes ie the mechanics of some of these transfers. If NUFC had not got Sissoko and he had renewed his contract Capoue would have arrived mid January but, M.Sissoko shafted Toulouse last minute.

On the other hand stupid money would have changed Cassanova’s mind… 😉

  195. devilgunner says:

I have just seen Nacho Monreal’s stats and they are impressive. But so were the stats of Santos and we know what the result is now. regarding Shaw, we could have got him before he signed the new contract. Had Shaw not signed it he would have cost no more than 8 million since he only had a till June 2014 to run. And for the same money he could have got Serge Aurier who can play right and left back.

I do not have anything against Nacho. But I would have preferred someone who is used to the EPL. Lets hope that he improves the left hand side.

  196. tsGH says:

Law had been in Spain since Monday drying his nuts… sorry.

These deals should have been brought forward. Same as Villa deal too. The MA08 should be doing a Pique on Villa to get him over but too many spineless gentlemen at our club… ehhh PHW’s club… 😀

Why is Cabaye still in Newcastle?

Malaga have signed areplacement for Monreal Goonie

  197. rico says:

Ts, that’s harsh on Becks imho, better than not doing anything…

Not wishing to sound rude but, you don’t know all that for sure either re Capoue/Sissoko.

Money talks and every club will let any player leave if the price is right….

Just look at Ronaldo and Man Utd…..

  198. rico says:

Signing Shaw would give us three great left backs, and all of them can play as a left winger…

Wouldn’t that be a better way to have square pegs to fit square holes??

  199. rico says:

Wenger isn’t sly, he’s tight, arrogant, pigheaded, stubborn and much more…

    But sly with transfers. Pfff!

  200. Scott from Oz says:

I know nothing of Monreal, so obviously can’t comment.
My question is can we ever take steps forward if we keep getting players from clubs who are only the 3rd, 4th or 5th best side in their own league?

  201. southyorkshiregunner says:

She’s the brains behind the operation…

A bit like Rico – but better at pouting and pointing …

  202. emma says:

dg – Dont get me started with SANTOS. Please dont compare the spanish liga with the turkish league. Monreal is a class act. AW is a slimy slimy …..

  203. Scott from Oz says:

    Hi Rico,
Maybe i am more patient than most, maybe i am deluded or maybe i am just plain dumb, but i tend to wait longer than most when it comes to criticising players.
Szczesny performance v Liverpool showed me he is not any better than 12 months ago, and he has a lot of growing up to do.
I said a year he would become our best ever keeper, but know i will alter that to read he CAN become our best ever keeper.
    Big attitude change required.
I would rather see him roll the ball back and give up a corner than take on attackers, and we all know how bad we are at defending corners!!

  204. tsGH says:

Rico I said Bein in France reporting it I did not state I am privy to any inside news.

And before you go accusing me of telling lies or anything it was written in black and white in FFT that both Cassanova and Toulouse chairman said Capoue can leave next summer but not this one. Sadran also said an EPL team still in the CL had enquired about Capoue…and my maths tell me only Manu and us are still in the CL. And it was reported in France too that PSG have tried to bring the 2 current first choice french central midfielders together, but Capoue refused to discuss a move to the moneybags.

And about money talking is that not exactly what I said? And that AFC never bid stupid money to make chairman/person not refuse!

Its just an opinion re becks… I am not accusing anyone of anything new or unique apart from what most of the celebs do… ie Geldof

  205. Scott from Oz says:

Emma, so Monreal is the real deal…..let us hope the deal gets done then.
Will this allow Gibbs to play further up the pitch…..when fit, of course 🙂

  206. devilgunner says:

I am not comparing them Emma. I have to be honest and say that I never watched Nacho. The rest of the housers know that I know a lot of players around Europe, but if I have to be honest Nacho escaped my radar.

I just commented on the stats and tbh everyone knows they can be manipulated. And that is what I am afraid off.

Obviously you know better than me since you may have watched him several times.

  207. tsGH says:

Jamie Sandrson news on Miguel is old news, it was meant to be part of SC19 deal last summer but he refused because he said he wants to play in this league and he thought Spain was not the best training school for defenders…

He also refused a move to Barca B last summer… at least some loyalty there.

  208. rico says:

You haven’t seen me pout or point Syg 😉

Scott – do you really want me to answer the ‘Maybe i am more patient than most, maybe i am deluded or maybe i am just plain dumb’ bit 😉 😉

I’m not sure anyone really doubts Ches will one day be a top keeper, but he seems to think he is there already and he’s not.

Personally, I think that is down to it all being far too easy for him.

Mannone isn’t going challenge him and Fabianski, well I guess he’s gone as soon as he is fit again.

Most agree that we need an old head to not only challenge Ches, but to help him, I know I do but AW seems to think differently which is where it goes wrong…

  209. southyorkshiregunner says:

I think we would have heard it here Scott … The gunner-grapevine would a definitely rattled that one out … his odds have gone out a point according to skybet

  210. tsGH says:

Typical John Cross. Hunters says a deal had already been agreed for next summer and the player has even started to learn English since last August…

  211. rico says:

Forgive me Ts, the way you wrote your comment, it sounded like you knew…..

Scott – where did you see that re Villa please??

  212. southyorkshiregunner says:

You’re right Rico I haven’t seen you point …. You’ve bollocked me a few times for threatening the odd blogger, but I haven’t seen you pout …..

  213. emma says:

dg – take it from me. He is very good and hope he adapts quickly to our team
scott – good idea on pushing gibbs as a left forward winger. Gibbs started as a forward winger before he was converted to a full back.

  214. devilgunner says:

On Sky Sports News, Spanish football expert Graham Hunter reported that Malaga have signed Vitorino Antunes, of Portugal side Pacos Ferreira. Atunes has played international football for Portugal, and, according to Hunter, would suggest that Malaga have signed their replacement for Monreal, further indicating his imminent arrival at Arsenal.

Both Hunter and Sid Lowe have been effusive in their praise of Monreal; Hunter said Monreal is the perfect blend of Spanish and British football traits, with excellent technical ability, but also with a good appetite for tackling. Monreal has won a higher percentage of tackles this season than Kieran Gibbs, though, again, comparing statistics between two players who play in different teams with different styles is somewhat pointless.

Lowe said that Monreal is “well-positioned” and a “steady full-back”. After the heart-attack provoking style of Andre Santos’ defending, this is nothing but good news.

More interestingly, Hunter said on SSN that Arsenal and Malaga had agreed a deal for Monreal in the summer, and thus, Monreal had started learning English. Kieran Gibbs’ injury brought the deal forward.

  215. tsGH says:

Dev, on ‘Nanchos’ …I have always said Latino defenders are bad moves. defendrs have to be English or from the Isles or Scandinavians, midfielders have to be Spanish, German, Africans and strikers either Germans or Dutch.

I would not take a spainish striker even if he is gifted to me. Why? Because the 2nd highest Spanish striker (with 16 goals) is a 31 y.o who is playing in la liga in his 2nd year. That should say it all about thje Spaniards strike force 😉

  216. goonster says:

no hard feelings then devil…….am sorry amigo. i blame wenger for the rush of blood to the brain. please accept my sincere apology. maybe i should quit being goonster and go back to the quiet reserve goonerstan? what do you guys think?

The Spaniard is expected to fly in to London this evening before the deadline to sign a 3-year-deal worth 110k p/w deal.
    More to come!

Reports from Spain’s AS sports paper say that Cazorla’s ex team mate at Malaga is actually in London today to finalise personal terms. The fee is 10m euros or 8.6m pounds.

He is 26 and has been called up in the last Spain squad. Monreal has nine caps and joined Malaga on a five-year deal from Osasuna in 2011.

  222. rico says:

No problem Rico.. re-read my post again I think I sounded a tad harsh… pologies too

  224. devilgunner says:

  227. devilgunner says:

oui Lady. it surely is. Getting Nacho, maybe Reina and also Villa will surely upgrade our team. But we need a DM now. One who can hold his own and help the team.

  228. rico says:

devil, totally agree re Capoue, but we know we won’t pay that money. Diame would be a ‘not bad’ alternative. Or Wanyama from Celtic. But i know we will get neither….

  229. tsGH says:

‘arry is about to sign Jenas who could not get in the Nottingham Forest team… what a joker. I can not believe some fans think HR is a better manager than AW!

Why is he not coming for Squillaci since he seems to like Arsenal cast outs…?

  230. tsGH says:

Sky sports are clueless… the Italian window is shut and they are still linking us to Cavani…

Jovetic deal agreed and then rejectyed because no replacements could be found in time. Typical AW or should I say Dickie Law?

  231. tsGH says:

SYG… I doubt that deal. Hunters says AW wanted to exchange Vila the fee with what Barca owed us but Barca are saying no…. we are truly soft and easy to shaft.

He is considered the 2nd best LB in Europe. Ahead of even Alba…

  238. devilgunner says:

Arsenal are completing the recruit of Ignacio Monreal.

The left-back only arrived in London today after his club Malaga came to a successful conclusion with Arsenal in discussions over a transfer worth £8.5 million.

Arsenal did make an inquiry for the Spanish international after landing Santi Czazorla in the summer but Malaga stood their ground then and kept Monreal.

Following Kieran Gibbs’ thigh injury on Wednesday though, the Gunners went back for the full-back today and the Spanish club accepted their offer this time with Monreal set to move to the Emirates stadium permanently.

The 26-year-old who starred for Osasuna before joining Malaga in 2011, has now completed the basics of his medical at London Colney and is expected to sign a five-year contract believed to be worth £55,000 a week.

The man who has won nine caps for Spain could be registered in time to make the squad for Saturday’s clash against Stoke City.
Spanish football journalist Andy West had more of the break down on the Monreal’s move.
“This would be a very good signing if it goes through. Monreal is an excellent ball-playing full back with a solid all-round game both defensively and going forward, and at the age of 26 he’s coming into his prime.” West said

Despite the relief of securing his services to fill in at left-back for the Gunners, Ignacio Monreal’s signing is not a complete fix as he will not be eligible to play in the Champions League due to being cup-tied after already appearing for Malaga in the competition.

“The only negative is that he’ll be cup tied for the Champions’ League but, if the reported fee of around £8m is accurate, it’s an excellent long-term deal.” he added

“It’s also worth bearing in mind that Monreal will be teaming up again with his former Malaga teammate, Santi Cazorla, which should significantly help the settling-in process both on and off the pitch.

“It is believed that Arsenal had been in talks with Malaga to sign Monreal in the summer, but the injury suffered by Kieran Gibbs during Wednesday’s game against Liverpool brought the deal forward.

“Incidentally, Malaga have moved quickly to line up a replacement – Vitorino Antunes from Portuguese side Paços de Ferreira.”

  239. tsGH says:

The signing of a Spanish left-back, with the name of a crisp snack, is hardly guaranteed to introduce a feel good at Arsenal…

The arrival of David Villa would have had me eager to see the next game.

The signing of Nachos does sweet fcuk all I’m afraid…

Keiron Gibbs’ inability to stay fit, has seen him replaced and seen him become a squad member, probably for the use of in rotational matters or domestic cups…

  262. allezkev says:

That apart, the highlight for me, was a very enjoyable evening, spent in the company of my fellow Curry Clubbers.

More rib-tickling tales and loud merriment were had by all…

Even the parsimonious habits of Arsenal/Wenger couldn’t spoil my evening.

  263. allezkev says:

I bet the phones of the ticket office at Ashburton Grove, will be red-hot, with Arsenal fans desperate to part with £62.00, so they can rush to the ground this weekend and see Señor Crisp Snack make his debut in our top-of-the-table clash against those artist’s of the beautiful game, Stoke RFU…

    Adam, I do envy you…

Some people have all the luck eh?

  264. Scott from Oz says:

    Hiya Kev.
I believe we needed more, but it could have been worse.
At least this guy has pedigree…..plenty were suggesting we’d get another promising kid, so at least that didn’t happen.
    Still, we need that DM.
Time to try Vermaelen or Kozzer in the midfield, i reckon.
Plenty will disagree, but what have we got to lose??

  265. ozgunner10 says:

one budget priced panic buy – dear oh dear – he really needs to do us a favour and give someone else a go now

  266. Scott from Oz says:

    Oz,
Plenty suggest this guy is THE buy of the transfer window anywhere in Europe, so explain how you come up with your “budget buy” and ” panic buy” descriptions, when everything and everyone suggest Wenger has been looking at him for quite a while.

  267. ozgunner10 says:

THE buy of the window??? I think not mate – and Wenger’s “we’ve been looking at him for ages” means nothing, remember he said the same of Santos and pretty well all of them – Under 6m is the cash on the table they say with possible (or impossible) success add on’s – Look, he’s ok and better than Santos but i bet despite all his fairy tale looking, he would have gone nowhere near him had Gibbs not gone belly up again – he’s taken advantage of a financially hurting team and thats business. Santos is moving for 4-5m they say so very little outlay again on the team and Wenger’s slick money pot stays well intact and all his “we’ll be busy this window” is again bullshit as usual.

  268. Scott from Oz says:

Oz, Wenger never said he had been looking at him, others have.
I never said he was the signing of the window, several experts have.
    We shall see.

  269. ozgunner10 says:

“We are delighted that Nacho Monreal has agreed to join us. We have been monitoring him for some time now and are really pleased that we’ve been able to agree this move today,” Wenger said.

  270. ozgunner10 says:

i ask you one question mate – had Wenger been so keen on this wonderful signing, given we have known for some time his last one (Santos) is another lump of overpaid shit, why would he wait right till the 11th hour to go for him and why only after the Gibbs injury? He’s full of it, he really is.

  271. Lee says:

Well at least we addressed one position is the upside, but apart from that it was a total lead balloon…big gamble on Diaby’s fitness!
So will santos join the plethora of players earning £50/60k pw that don’t play?

  272. Bradster says:

I’m just glad the Villa rumours didn’t happen. Imagine buying him at 31 y.o. for 18m and 100k per week at the least with injury problems and no EPL experience.
Still think Mert doesn’t suit our system. Verm will have to sweep for him instead of along side and not cover the flanks. That means the full backs cannot attack as much and hampers us going forward.
Mert suits a team that defends deep and plays counter football or long ball. The rest of the defence are poor at high balls and attackers coming at them.

  273. Scott from Oz says:

    Oz,
i concede Wenger said it, but i sold have stated plenty other Wenger suggest we have had a decent look at him.
Gibbs injury may have forced the issue, but who bloody cares?
    We got the guy.
    He is good.
Look at the negative side all you like and be as cynical as you want, because heaven forbid giving any credit at all.
Every comment from you is aimed squarely at Wenger, no matter what he does, and that is fine, but don’t expect me to be upset when we sign a top player.
I am struggling to see a negative in this player coming to the club.

  274. Scott from Oz says:

You’d think Arsenal are the only club with deadwood, the only club with bad signings and the only club with big earners who add nothing.

  275. Scott from Oz says:

Bradster, knowing our luck, he’d have broken down in his first game.
Though it wouldn’t be luck, it would surely be bad management 🙂

  276. Lee says:

But most other clubs off load their shite/injury prone players whereas we offer them new contracts. The £145m p.a salary bill is distributed all wrong and this needs addressing asap!
Wenger just loves a gamble don’t he?

  277. Scott from Oz says:

Lee, i agree totally on the DM.
RVP….well, our “goals for” is stacking up pretty well this seasons, it is our goals against killing us…:too many simple goals.
I also agree on our deadwood.
Every club has them, but we seem unwilling to take a hit, financially speaking, to piss them off.
    Why…i don’t know.

  278. Bradster says:

Perhaps we should get all our players wrapped up in Plasenta, it worked for RVP.
So we’re stuck with a light weight, small midfield and a crocked Diaby. Cheers to us scoring more than we concede.

  279. rockyrocastle07 says:

    Morning all

Ts – just read your bit about Becks’ donating his wages to charity. Withouut meaning to sound rude – or maybe I am… I haven’t decided yet – What you said is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Who gives a fuck if he gets tax breaks. The bottom likne is that charities will be benefitting whereas before they wouldn’t have. But yet you still somehow try to put some spin on it to say it’s not a big deal. Tell you what… You donate your entire wages to charity instead. No? Didn’t think so.

  280. rico says:

Rocky, I actually think it’s a wonderful thing for Becks to be doing. How many other rich folk do that…..

  281. tsGH says:

Was the comment on becks aimed at you Rocky?’Withouut meaning to sound rude – or maybe I am… I haven’t decided yet –” you don’t have to be a bitch just say what you mean.

First of all I don’t give a fuck what you think of my comment on Becks ok.I am getting tired of your bad handed remarks towards me you ignorant piece of shite. This is not the first time you have insulted me but as always no one says anything but when i make a comment you and your crew come down on me.

Donate my salary, you idiot do you know what I do with my salary?

If you live in a fairy tale land and think these celebs crap makes a difference go to any part of the work apart from the developed world and see what these charities actually do.

I can not believe I have let an ignorant imbecile piss me off? I have no time for adults you defend someone of the cuff without even k nowing a celeb personally.
