Denilson out? 'New Drogba' to sign and Reina on the move soon?

According to the Daily Mail, Barcelona talent spotter Andoni Zubizarreta has been keeping a close eye on the Arsenal midfield – but it’s not just Cesc Fabregas in the Spanish champions’ sights.  The Nou Camp technical secretary has been so impressed with Brazilian midfielder Denilson that he is ready to convince coach Pep Guardiola to sanction a bid for the 22-year-old.

Denilson is a player who divides fans opinion but regardless of what we all think, reality is when we have a full squad to select from, Denilson doesn’t feature in the starting eleven for Wenger. Denilson has four more years to run on his contract but bearing in mind this is his fifth season with us, maybe he feels the need to play regular football.

How Barca think they can give him that though I don’t know! Cesc wouldn’t get in their midfield just now, Denilson has no chance so if he wants to play, Barca is not the place for him!

But sell him? Yes I probably would if I was Wenger but I’m not so no doubt he will stay!

So, on to Reina – Today is possibly one of the biggest days for one of the biggest teams in the English Premiership, today Liverpool Football Club are in the High Court on a journey which will determine their future. They are up against the Royal Bank of Scotland. (RBS)

RBS have an interim injunction in place which stops the current owners from make any further changes at the club!

There is a lot going on which in fairness I couldn’t give a flying one about but ultimately Liverpool could be placed into bankruptcy protection should all go horribly wrong for the club. With it will come a nine-point deduction which could see Liverpool in the deepest depths of poo poo and I hope those depths go deeper than anyone could begin to imagine.

There is only one person I would feel sorry for and that is Roy Hodgson but he will soon get another job, if of course he wants it.

So, you possibly wonder why this is in an Arsenal Blog… Well, if all goes wrong for them they will have to sell players to fund their debt. It’s clear to see that Torres is not a happy player, Reina’s season has been up and down so is he unhappy too? Then there is Gerrard, he came so close quitting the club a few years ago, can you see him or the others sticking around playing mid-table football, or even worse case scenario, Championship Football?

Of course not, neither can I….. And, do we not need a great goal keeper? Do we not need an out-and-out striker?

I’d love to see both Reina and Torres at Arsenal, wouldn’t you??

And finally, reports are that we have won the race to sign the ‘New Drogba’ Anderlecht have finally agreed to let star striker Romelu Lukaku leave the club. The Belgium 6′ 3″ 17-year-old striker could be just what we need up front, well, in a year or two!!

That’s it from me for the day, have a good one, only a few days to go now until real football is back 🙂

Hi R7, I can’t see Denilson going but I can see Reina moving if the court case goes in favour of RBS, the only question would be whether or not Wenger would offer a sensible price for him…

  2. brdgunner says:

Torres is as bad as RVP for injuries, all we could hope is that they are not injured at the same time often. I don’t think Torres is the asnwer, a fit Torres yes, but the injury prone one, not really.

  3. luke says:

Poor Denilson, promises so much yet delivers little when required either through frequent injuries or unable to step up under pressure. This season will decide his future with so many injured players returning soon. Perhaps he could rise up to it in this coming two months.

  4. king gooner says:

real shame it’s the mickey mousers in court.would much have preferred MANURE in there instead=then i would really piss myself laughing!!where does it say we’ve “won the race”for lukaku?

  5. rico says:

    hi luke, brd…

If Torres was with us I bet he wouldn’t be injured so often, Rafa mucked him up by playing him when not fit…

Denilson is a very frustrating player, can be good one game and the next he’s not… can’t see barca wanting him in all honesty, just media rubbish…

  6. spanner says:

Great. Torres could take over from Rosicky in the not permanently injured and never fully fit position.
Wouldn’t say no to Reina though on last seasons form.
Denilson at Barca? Making the coffee maybe?
The 17 year old story sounds like the only reliable one, but will he be Drogba or a donut who knows?

  7. rico says:

hi king gooner, i’m more happy its the dippers, can’t stand them personally, read it yesterday about the ‘new drog’, he’s a big un but like you say, who knows what he’ll be like…

  8. khoune says:

Dear sir! just please be care full with the very good Brasilian player Denilson. He i the very good midfielder ,for the pass he may was not fit enough, but he realy need the regular playing. you will see his best form at age of 24 to 30 years old.

  9. T-buzz says:

So possibly, Barca want to nick both Cesc and Dennilson from us leaving us with our thumbs stuck up our whatsits??
    thats just dandy aint it?

    Morning, peoples!

  10. rico says:

Morning T-buzz, they don’t really want Denilson, they want to cheese Cesc off by nicking one of his buddies in hope he will follow…

Denilson wouldn’t go there in any case imho, he was one of a few i think who stood by cesc in the summer…

  11. T-buzz says:

Careful khoune. Rico is a lady and you dont wanna call her “Sir” again otherwise you’ll have your “sirs” handed to you on a silver plate! lol

  12. spanner says:

I got married again, best man a lifelong scouser so we always watch the games between AFC and LFC together. I lived up there for a while and had quite a laugh.Actually AFC seem to be quite respected by both LFC and EFC so for me I’d be a bit sad to see the ‘pool go under or down or down under.LFC fans apparently admired the way we as a club behaved after the Hillsborough disaster and then by the Anfield win in May’89. EFC fans mostly for the win. If only it were the Mancs,(either) Chavs or Spuds.Maybe its Manure time soon.
Good luck ‘pool but you’ll never win the league again.
    RvP 4-6 years HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  13. rico says:

😆 T-buzz, would be great to see the mancs and chavs follow the dippers to the High Court wouldn’t it?

I really hope RBS force the issue and they get docked 9 points for going into admin 🙂

  14. T-buzz says:

Hi riCo, Barca to me keep looking uglier and uglier than Puyol’s mum everytime they come up with their ridiculous tactics to distabilse the Arsenal. Silence I guess is the best response to them…..

  15. rico says:

spanner, doesn’t stop them cheating and diving when up against us though does it, sorry but i have little time for them….

  16. spanner says:

true enough rico,I suppose you just have to take it as some sort of compliment. would like to see all the big debters penalised all over europe, and see the tears flowing.

  17. rico says:

T-buzz, sure is, all their talk in the summer smacked of desperation, now they have started again, no doubt taking a long run up to january, they have no chance…

  18. rico says:

we just behaved with dignity spanner, just as you would expect anyone to after such a horrific incident….

seeing the dippers in court may just make the world of football wake up, maybe salary caps and transfer fees will be finally looked at… something has to change in the crazy football world….

  19. Red Arse says:

    Hi Rico, 🙂

I read those reports too, but as this is the “silly season” there are journalists trying to find something to write.

    Me no believe! 🙂

The Lukaku item came originally from a comment on Talksport, I just don’t beleive anything that rubbish say, and therefore I don’t believe the Lukaku story.

With moneybags Chelsea, Barca and Real Madrid as well as two or three Italian clubs after him, I think it’s a no-no!

  20. rico says:

Hi RA, I am sure you are right and yes they have to write something… To be fair, isn’t the blog world just the same 😉

I read it somewhere different to talksport and it may hold more truth than you think 😉

Don’t forget, we are known to give younger players a chance, over the last few seasons players and their parents have realised that the chavs, mancs, barca’s of this world don’t…

  21. chika says:

given the emergence of wilshere, denilson is now probably being considered as our last choice of midfielders, but why would barca be interested in him. probably they just want to show their frustration of not getting cesc. they can have denilson for all i care.

  22. spanner says:

profit is one big addiction, look at Leeds 10 years ago.where are they now? who learned anything from that?
financial restrictions must be imposed or its only boom or/and bust for these clubs.I heard the regulations in Germany promoted sustainability in football clubs.Anyone have any details on this?

  23. rico says:

spanner, but a club like liverpool are a different kettle of fish… i don’t know much about the restrictions in germany, if you find out spanner, feel free to write about it and send it in 😉

  24. spanner says:

leeds were the example, and the bigger clubs thought they would be immune, well that is not the case as we see. i still wouldn’t like to see them (lfc)crushed(mainly for the fans,I suppose),too many good rivalries down the years, ahh, nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be…..

  25. rico says:

spanner, the money spent is far greater now and the world is still in a bit of a financial pickle. What makes it funny though is how the dippers have spent but are still crap… i don’t care if they go down, not one bit…. 😉

  26. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

If I was taking a wild guess, I suspect you may have read the Lukaku thing in First Post, and buried in their report they credit their source as being Talkcrap.

Within a few hours other blogs will pick it up and it becomes fact, until the ballon is pricked and everyone realises Talkcrap was just, well, talked crap. 🙂

  27. rico says:

i don’t think it was RA, I’ll see if i can find it…

Did you see SD London popped on earlier, hope he comes back…

  28. spanner says:

proportionately speaking, out of financial depth is out of financial depth.it doesn’t matter if more is spent.what matters is, can it be recouped.
it is true though, they are hilariously crap these days.
the great thing is Arsenal have been very shrewd and forward thinking and we will see our club at the top in the future decades.
cheers, i’m off to work, late again

  29. W.A.T.H says:

Nice article Rico although RBS winning would mean the club gets sold it seems and then no sales. . . . it’s if Hicks n Gillette win then it seems RBS would call in the loan and then they’d be in the crapper….!

Oh. . . . and morning all, hope ur bladder ok this morning RA 🙂

  30. W.A.T.H says:

Hicks n Gilette don’t wanna sell at such a low price Rico but if they don’t sell now and RBS call in the loan on friday then the club goes into administration…! Afternoon SD….. you took long enough to find us did you get lost..?

  31. oliver says:

morning all. denilson might actually do better in spain, but i doubt there is much to this – speculation that zubi thinks he could do job for barca. so the natural progression is they launch a formal bid? this is what i hate about iternational week: constant one-plus-two-equals-six speculation…

lukaku is lukaku – not this “new so-and-so” drogba is drogba. i understand that the media uses this to sell their story, but it is still irritating to hear about how we are always in for the “new umpty-squat”. besides, this is just another case of a young player being touted all over europe by media.

if liverpool are forced to sell some players, i think torres is more likely to be offloaded – and probably to either man city, back to spain, or italy. i think reina would be one of the last to be shopped, simply because he can still get them points with mediocre players in most other positions. besides, i think if arsene goes in for a in january, it will be to replace the current number two (almunia). i do not think reina would be interested in coming here to deputize fabianski. and i think we are back to a situation where fabianski will have to really throw the number one jersey away. i am not saying things cannot change – certainly fab is capable of the latter – but as i see things now, arsene may be more interested in ensuring that fab’s current good form in goal is sustained. bringing reina will not do much to help that.

  32. Jekyll says:

Only one of your paragraphs holds any credence, the one about the 17 year old joining us.
The rest – Denilson to Barcelona? Laughable, and Wenger will never let him go anyway, he’s one of his favourites. The prospect of us signing Liverpool’s stars? Have you not noticed Wenger’s modus operandi over the last few seasons? He wouldn’t want them if they were free. They’d ‘kill’ his babies.

  33. Red Arse says:

    Hi Oliver,

The papers over here are full of Arsene being in for Steklenburg, Viviano, lloris and Kiev’s GK (can’t remembeer his name), apart fro the usual drivel about Reina. And don’t forget Schwarzer.

All too drearly predictable in a poor news period.

  34. SD-London says:

About Denilson , i just feel for the guy , he seems to be fading away.
Barca’s rumour of an interest in Denilson if true will be a trick to actually test Wenger.Because we all know Barca don’t need him and might want to proof that Wenger just want money.

Then again they bought Hleb and he disappointed them therefore they might think Denilson is a great player if they can’t get Fabregas.

They must be watching Denilson’s training videos 🙂

  35. oliver says:

morning ra. as long as we have fabianski and al as our first-team keepers, they will continue to speculate about this player, that player, etc. etc. i seriously doubt that arsene is even considering someone like reina, adler, stekelenburg, etc. he has invested too much capital and time in fabianski to replace him, just at the point where fabianski may finally be coming good.

  36. Red Arse says:

    Spot on, Oliver. I agree.

SD, I think Denilson has surprised many of us by having a good season. He is not top notch, but you never know what will happen when he matures.

  37. W.A.T.H says:

SD, Denilson is a decent squad player who AW tried to turn into a Flamini and he’s simply not like that. Left to play his own game he is decent back up and that’s how he should be used.

  38. SD-London says:

On Reina : i don’t think Arsenal fans will be happy to see him considering the role he played in the world cup shirt on Fabregas joke.

  39. W.A.T.H says:

SD, think Denilson is ok as back up against middle of the table teams and also some european teams…! We now at least have a few options that he isn’t the only one who is a back up..!

  40. SD-London says:

Well Denilson is not an headache but the two flappy hands are our main problems and the fact that our players just refuse to be extra carefull in defence whenever we are playing the big clubs.

  41. SD-London says:

Actually i should say 4 flappy hands.

How Almunia came down from being suggested as England number one to being one of the worst goal keepers in premier league eludes me.

Even Wolve’s goal keeper is better than him , imagine that.

  42. W.A.T.H says:

Like i been saying for yonks SD, go through the prem lge and what other keeper would you not want ahead of our 2 flappies…. there are not very many…!

  43. W.A.T.H says:

SD you, me and every other Arsenal fan me thinks, we’ve had a keeper problem for 3 yrs and he’s done sweet fa for some unknown reason…! Astonishing really…!

  44. rico says:

    Boo, Afternoon all

what have i missed except jekyll says the post is full of fibs… when will some people realise that blogs can only discuss things that are in the news 😆 😉

  45. agirlagunner says:

So quiet?? 🙂 Can’t wait for interlull to be over. rico, Barcelona have an unhealthy obsession with our players… Why would Denilson want to join the stains?? Anyway, over the summer, he did call Puyol on his blahblahblah (Puyol disclaimed authorship of the statements though…). I don’t mind keeping him.

I don’t want Reina on the strength of recent performance. Pitiful. SD, that shirt stunt was so disrespectful.

Torres, on the other hand– me gusta! 🙂 WATH, I’m not gonna deny it.

  46. agirlagunner says:

Boo, rico! Stekelenburg would be wise to seriously consider his options. The red Mancs are going down…

  47. SD-London says:

Well the goal keeper rumours got us discussing about the problem we have and the two flappy keepers we have to deal with for all competitions.

So Rico, i think all the keeper news are just interviews blown up really.
I hate international weeks and this one seems very long.

  48. rico says:

    Hey agag, hows tricks?

Reina hasn’t started well, but the last few games he has been on fire. I could forgive his antics if he joined us (eventually)..

But also Stekelenburg would be a massive signing, i strongly suspect VDS has been telling him how wonderful the mancs are, but i think they are heading for a lull, just like we have had 😉

  49. rico says:

SD, our keepers scare me, i can’t enjoy games anymore as i sit waiting and expecting the next howler….

where you been then SD, have you still been blogging??

  50. rico says:

WATH, bloomin breezy on the sand today, no swimming for me – although it looked very tempting 🙂

    😆 re Jekyll …

  51. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

That Lukaka rumour has now moved to 2 other sites, each saying that “It has been reported”, blah, blah.

Talkcrap mentions it as a possibility, a site picks it up as Gospel, other sites then quote that site, and off we go.

Much the same nonsense re GK’s I think.

  52. oliver says:

ra, braced for tonight’s game in tampa? winner opens at home versus the yanks in the american league championship series. price versus lee – great pitching matchup. an even better pitching matchup will be in the first game of the national league championship series (saturday) between roy halladay (philadelphia) and tim lincecum (san francisco)…

watching the monday night game – and all the furore around brett favre – all i can say is that i am glad arsenal do not have players who like to send lewd text and image message of themselves to female club employees…what a mess the vikes are in…

  53. oliver says:

ra, we call that nonsense “circular reporting”. it appears in one location, then others repeat it, and suddenly everyone is saying it – “it must credible”…

  54. rico says:

    RA, that’s footie blogs for you… 😉

Feel free to write one full of facts just for HH anytime you like 🙂

  55. Stef says:

    Hi all
Rico I would rather watch rugby then the so called (ameican) `football` 😉

About Liverpool I don’t think they will go down.

    interlull…

    so boring 🙁

  56. oliver says:

hi rico…i think it takes some getting used to. actually, most of the above post is baseball, which definitely takes some getting used to…i grew up in a family of baseball fans, so that was the first sport i followed closely – in fact, my mom still supports (propsective liverpool fc owner) john w henry’s team, the boston red sox. for us arsenal supporters, that is also the team they made a movie about based on hornby’s classic fever pitch. they took the theme of the novel and force-fit it onto boston’s 2004 championship season. i stayed away on principle alone!

i think us football now pretty popular over in the uk – one game at wembley every season. when i lived in peterborough about 15 years ago, i would occasionally see youths with raider, cowboy, and niners gear on. i imagine there is much more of that these days…

  57. rico says:

Hey Stef, how goes it?? I’m not fond of either 😉

I don’t think dippers will go down either but would love to see them really flirt with the idea, well, nearly as much as i’d love to see them relegated 🙂

  58. Stef says:

    Hey Oliver

The 1 thing I like about American `football` is the cheerleaders 😀

I did watch half a season on telly and cheered for Tampa Bay *they sounded cool to me lol

  59. W.A.T.H says:

Hmmm wind Rico and guiness, what a concoction…! Am saying nothing…! well nothing more at least. . . .

  60. Red Arse says:

    Oliver,

Unfortunately, Texas at the Rays is being shown at 1 a.m. over here, and I can only stay up all night, once in a while. 🙁

Although I am watching a recording of the Vikings at the Jets, Monday Night game, as I write. 20:29 in the 4th, with 90 secs, so don’t tell me the result! 🙂

  61. oliver says:

ra, i shan’t breathe a word. i stayed up for it – they started late because of the thunderstorms over the new york metro area. are the commentators blabbing on and on about favre’s personal life?

  62. W.A.T.H says:

Rico, american football is a very simple game made overly complicated by tv and the media to make a 20minute game last 2 hours with men wearing kevlar basically playing long ball rugby… there you go…… Simple 😉

  63. Red Arse says:

    Yep,

It is a direct full length feed, Favre, warts and all! But from my point of view, Favre has/had played very well.

I was a bit surprised that the Braves were dumped by the Giants in the play-offs, especially as Atlanta were on home field. That’s sport, I suppose.

  64. Stef says:

Howdy Rico, watching a water polo game

I don’t like or understand both baseball and cricket or bother too either 😀

  65. rico says:

Criket is ok Stef, simple rules with a game that can last for five days and still with a draw at the end 😆

  66. Red Arse says:

    oliver,

It’s just finished! A really good game, I think. Would not have stayed up overnight for it though.

Reserve that for the Yankees or the Giants games.

    (Different sports, Rico) 🙂

  67. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

If you get a chance when next you are New York, go to some of the games, the atmosphere and the ecitement is infectious, unless you are losing, of course.

You would come to love it, almost as much as me! 🙂

  68. oliver says:

yep, good game. jets are on their way to becoming a really good team – when revis attains full match fitness, other teams won’t be scoring touchdowns against them like moss and harvin caught last night.

  69. Red Arse says:

    Ermm Rico,

I meant you wuld come to love the games as much as I do. Not love the games as much as you …. well you get my drift. 🙂

  70. Stef says:

5 days for one game looks more like a holiday 🙂

Only 1 point for Northern Ireland and no points for Turkey hahaha very interesting results so far

  71. W.A.T.H says:

Rohypnol and a bottle of GG will get you flying Rico in more ways than one lol.. . . Thanx RA was starting to feel a little neglected…. 😀

  72. Red Arse says:

    Oh come , come, Rico,

You know the phrase, come fly with me! 😉

(WATH will explain!) Nitey, nite! 🙂
