Deflection is the key.. Wenger confirms summer signing summers will only be world-class…

Morning all.

Three points were needed, three points is exactly what we came home with…

I honestly thought last night would be a tricky one for Arsenal. Hull are in a relegation battle, they’d just beaten Liverpool and I expected a sterner test to overcome than we got. As it turned out, we should have battered them good and proper and boosted our goal tally to go ahead of City but 3-1 away from home is darn good, as was our performance.

Aluko could easily have opened the scoring for the home side but his header was simply dire.

Then off we went.  Ozil nicked the ball off of Huddlestone inside the Hull half and passed to Alexis who was then fouled by Jake Livermore. The little Chilean got himself up, dusted himself down and then fired home the resulting free-kick, with a little help from a deflection.

We didn’t have to wait long before 1-0 became 2-0.

Santi Cazorla had the ball just inside his own half. Spotting Ramsey on the run, he played a superb pass to the Welshman who again with a little deflection, found the back of the net.

Ozil and Alexis had chances to increase the scoreline but  didn’t take them. Alexis though grabbed our third and final goal just before the half-time whistle blew.

Ozil and Ramsey were both involved in the build up, the latter played in Alexis with an inch perfect pass. The Chilean rounded the Hull keeper and placed the ball into the empty net.

Hull pulled one back in the second half, a goal which probably should never stood as Koscielny was fouled in the build up. But come on, who was the referee?

Yes, Lee Mason and he seldom gives us much does he, just like he didn’t give us a penalty when Jack Wilshere fired a shot in on goal from close range only for it to be blocked by the arm of Chester…

Game over and Arsenal go back level with Manchester City in second place with a game in hand and leave Utd five points adrift in fourth spot.

Next weekend, Utd travel to Crystal Palace for a tricky Saturday night fixture and City face Qpr at home the following day.. We face Swansea City at The Emirates next Monday night..

Arsenal need just one more point to secure a top four place, five to secure third (although our goals scored is much better than Utd so four may do) and ten to make sure we finish second if City don’t slip up at all. Apart from Utd away, our other three remaining fixtures are at The Emirates..

All in all a very good night for Arsenal and knowing that ‘Orrid lot across the way can’t catch us makes the result even sweeter..

After the game, Arsene Wenger was questioned about summer signings:

We have a big squad – the basis is there. We do not need to buy a number of players.

If we can get top, world-class players we will look at it, but we have a very strong squad already in number and we want to stay together and start well next season.

Those comments may upset Arsenal fans but I think he’s right. We don’t need players who might come good in in a couple of years time, we need players who are mature, experienced and very good. Players who will take the team up another level or two. Players who will hit the ground running and are prepared to work hard for the greater good.

Players who will help those we already have, win the league…..

Have a good Tuesday guys…

Morning all. I’m back! From the western isles, Islay the worlds largest distillery! Mostly lovely single malt and no hangovers! Beautiful island, lovely people, and good food too.
Saw second half having listened to the first. Seems a good report Rico of how we dominated the game and the result. Jack’s back, we’ll have to see where Wenger fits him in. A bit part player I should think for the rest of the season, so long as our other midfielders stay fit. Interesting stat that, we named the same starting eleven for the fourth time in a row, for the first time since 1996! Perhaps it says it all!
Swansea next, a bit of a bogey side for us through the recent years, but, if we win all our remaining games we come second. Marvellous!
Back later if, the little grey cells regiment themselves and re configure properly. Meanwhile have a nice day everyone.

Good Morning to The Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

I hope everyone had a great St. Totteringham’s Day. Another three points from a solid performance.

Scott – At half time I was beginning to believe we might get the brace and hat trick discussed yesterday. A five goal difference would have really put the pressure on Citeh.

Rico – “If we can get top, world-class players we will look at it, but we have a very strong squad already in number and we want to stay together and start well next season.” As usual Arsene is playing his cards close to his chest and not giving anything away.

I`m sure `he will make a marquee signing. However, how many new players he buys depends on how many he can get out the door and how many he wants to promote from the Academy.

I can`t believe some of the transfer fees and wage demands of some of our nearest rivals targets being bandied by the media. ManUre especially seem to ready to go out on a limb. Let`s hope they take a bridge to far.

  3. Lee says:

    I found this…..

Since Wenger joined us, Tottenham have managed to finish above every team in the football league at least once. Apart from one team!!!

  4. Canadian Gooner says:

Kev – Was there any baying at the moon or wails of anguish in the vicinity of Shite Heart Lane last night?

  5. Canadian Gooner says:

Scott – If we could only have done as well in the second half. Steve Bruce must have given the Hull players an inspiring speech at half time.

I was reading an article on a ManUre fan site the other day and it was quoting a number of their fans saying that they wouldn`t get a Champions League place unless they beat Arsenal at Old Toilet.

  6. scottfromoz says:

CG, to be honest, and I know this will shock everyone, I thought we were just ok the whole game.
Maybe I was not yet awake in the first half as plenty are raving about it.
Who said I’m always positive 🙂

  7. Wath says:

Scott, Think in patches we played some exceptional football….! Also think at other times we just did enough and kept the ball, we allowed the odd chance as we seem to do and the worry is against better sides they can lead to goals so we still need to try and cut that out but all in all a very good workmanlike performance with flashes of brilliance but with Alexis, Santi and Ozil that’s to be expected surely…!

  8. Canadian Gooner says:

Scott – It is never easy playing teams that are fighting to stay out of the relegation zone near the end of the season. They are like cornered animals, you never know what they will do. Once they scored their goal you could see them lift their heads. After that it was simple containment.

Ideally you want to be playing teams that are comfortably at mid-table at this time of the season. They aren`t going to win anything, like a place in Europe, and are not threatened with relegation.

  9. scottfromoz says:

Yeah guys, I’m just being my normal, miserable self lol.
Nah, maybe because I was damn tired, it might have been me going through the motions and not them.
Don’t get me wrong, I thought we were very professional.

  10. Canadian Gooner says:

It`s gone very quiet. I`m going to sneak off to bed.

    Have a great day everyone.

    Keep The Faith!

  11. Wath says:

Cheers CG, have a good kip….! Won’t be quiet for long i suppose Stan will be up soon…!

  12. allezkev says:

Adam treated me to one of his special dishes yesterday.
A veggie penne, with broccoli and olives.
    It was a culinary triumph…

    Then the Arse smashed Hull…

    Very enjoyable evening.

    Boring Boring Chelsea

  13. allezkev says:

Good post Rico, that’s pretty much how I saw the game, although I thought we should have had two penalties…

    All ok CG…

TK Maxx isn’t bad for a bargain or two…

    Agag would have been impressed…

Afternoon guys…the sun is shining birds are chirping I can smell the ocean even though it’s like 150km away. What a time to be a gooner. Am so happy I smiled in my sleep. Brianna must have been freaked out cause she kept looking at me like dad are you alright? Oh lord I love it. COYFGS FOYS.

  15. goonster says:

Lee I saw that stats too somewhere on twitter. If that’s true then it’s unbelievable. Wow.

  16. goonster says:

I think we re about to blow the rest of the premier League away. something special is brewing guys. I can feel it in my gut. A player or 2 that ll shock the rest of the football world is coming to the emirates. Like we did with ozil I think we are about to get someone that other teams won’t believe will come to us. Ozil was the first sanchez followed now look out as we make way for a reus or wait for it GARETH BALE. You don’t believe me alright watch this space.

  17. goonster says:

Oh how rude of me….mama ll be disappointed. Afternoon maam how are you doing this lovely day 😀 I ll bet you ve been beaming from ear to ear all day. Lol

  18. rico says:

    Evening Goonster..

    I’m ok thanks, you?

I’ll be a lot happier if we win all our remaining fixtures. Well, in my footballing world of course…

  19. goonster says:

Rico we have 4 games left out of which 3 is at the home of football. I think we ll win the 3 hone games and draw with manure away or maybe smash them. Am not overly worried. 2nd spot is certain. Shitty can’t and won’t win the rest of their games. They ve had a Topsy turvy season. They ll drop a few points too.

  20. goonster says:

Hey adam how’s the missus doing? Haven’t heard about her in a while. Is she ok? I ll be you re giving her too much grief you slimy toad you. Lol.

  21. goonster says:

I think (and this is me thinking ) thay theo tr7 arteta diaby poldi jenko and of course flamini ll be allowed to leave to make way for a super player. All their wages combined should be enough to pay a Gareth bale! Oh boy a long punt to ozil who controls it like a feather chips a deft ball to ramsey who spins around and finds santi who takes a touch before sliding it into bale’s path…..kreaming 😀 oh lord God make it happen.

  22. goonster says:

ha it happened again it happened again totscum hotsperms it happened again. Men I love the away Lads. God bless them one and all.

  23. goonster says:

Rico 😀 I knew you were going to rub the whole mata debacle in my face Lol But hey I called it and we were so close but dick law dwaddled and we lost him to the chavs. So hey its not my fault.

  24. goonster says:

Adam quick question how come you guys can’t make the home games this lively. The away lads out sung the hull supporters who by the way I think are super cool and should stay up. They had a banner for rocky7 last night. Brought tears to my eyes. I pray they stay up. Class team.

  25. goonster says:

Wilshere was on for last night. Am so happy for him yet some fans want him sold!!! I just don’t get some arsenal fans. He’s one of ours. You didnt see the scummy mancs selling Scholes or the scousers selling stevie mee. Wilshere stays end of.

  26. goonster says:

I won’t sell wilshere for 50m quid. Am sorry but i have a soft spot for him # wilshere stays

  27. goonster says:

Oh crap there’s a lot wrong with that. I ll rather have me a juicy steak thank you 😀

  28. goonster says:

I just found out that our next game is also on a monday. Can you believe it. What’s going on? I want to watch arsenal on the weekends not Monday nights. God sky just irks the hell out of me or is it BT?

  29. goonster says:

Yes rico but that’s 2 weeks in a row. I hate waiting plus it puts the lads under tremendous pressure to perform.

  30. Joe says:

Evening everyone, I have to wonder why English refs are not told by the FA to protect Jack after all he is the best English midfield player by far.
Goonster your dead right on Jack why would Arsenal ever think of selling him.

  31. goonster says:

I think so too maam palace ll do them. Bolasie ll be a handfull for valencia. I see a palace win. 2.1

  32. Joe says:

Sky commentator last night Arsenal fans will have a long trip home tonight who’s fault is that idiots.
Atkinson in charge of the match tonight Juv V Real hope he does better than when he refs us.

  33. goonster says:

Joe it beats me why some fans will want jack gone. He’s one of ours Plus we need our English core. Afterall arsenal is an English club!

  34. goonster says:

joe my gripe with the home fans is why they can’t turn the emirates into a cauldron. that’s because we have snooty rich folks who can’t applaud scream or chant along as the team play. We need to subsidize the tickets at the home games. Get enough of those away lads in the emirates and watch teams shite themselves. Kroenke out syrup in

  35. Joe says:

Rico we can’t sell Jack how will he become club captain if we sell him he can’t win the CL, PL and the FA cup with an unbeaten season. 🙂

  36. tsgh says:

    morning Rico et al
Vidal, Maschisio and Pirlo absolutely sublime yesterday..

another night Vidal covered every single blade of the pitch…; how does Pirlo keep doing it…

  37. Hell Raising Devil says:

Good Morning Beautiful Lovelies and Hunkies.

May you have a day as Beautiful as you are.

Ginge…….were the Juve players sublime or did Real play so crap that they made them look good???

MArcelo, Ramos were both crap yesterday. Juve played like the Chavs…..park the bus and go on the counter. Real players could not play direct football, but had to play sideways all the time.

but you are right about Vidal. He was a beast yesterday.

  38. tsgh says:

Hi Dev; you have a point… but I think Carlo messed up setting up his team 4-4-2 against Massimomilano’s diamond formation…

The first 25 minutes was all Juve though;Ramos and Kroos could not cope with Vidal, Maschisio and Vidal’s energy…

  39. tsgh says:

Marcelo was playing like Santos in a wig. 🙂 Carvajal was also awful imho…

It was funny listening to keaneo going on about not giving Pirlo space etc… the archetype British isle mentality of tough guy…; Pirlo continuously out thought Isco, Bale who were tasked to keep Pirlo quiet…

  40. Hell Raising Devil says:

yesterday Real’s formation was unbalanced. the game called for a 4-1-4-1 approach. Ronaldo on one side Bale on the other. but Carlo went for 4-4-2 and that played into Allegri’s hands.

to be fair…..Ronaldo did hit the bar with a thumping header. but overall Juve were better.

Still I think that Real will go through to face Barca.

  41. tsgh says:

how’s the weather like down your patch Rico?
    Its miserable down here…

I am not even going to ask you Dev… 🙂

  42. Wath says:

It’s always wet where I am the GG is always flowing……………..

    Morning u lot.

Thought Real were utter crap but Juve did a good job on them.
