Defence short for Leicester. Abdominal strain, you’re having a laugh Arsene…

Morning all.

Throughout the summer I’ve changed my view many times over the Alexis Sanchez situation. It should never have come to this, just like with Ozil and Oxlade-Chamberlain but it has and the club have to be sensible. If the stories about PSG offering ยฃ80 million for the Chilean are true and the player really doesn’t want to be at Arsenal, I guess the best option is to take the money and reinvest quickly. Either that or strike a deal with Monaco, one in which see Thomas Lemar arrive at Arsenal. I love the player, be sure of that but we saw the impact Wenger’s contract situation had on the team and the last thing we need is another season like it with the above three players.

The club, well, whoever has allowed three of our players to enter their last year of contract, has royally cocked up yet again and I wouldn’t bet against all three, certainly two, being gone by the time September arrives. No other club seems to be interested in Mesut Ozil which as much as it doesn’t surprise me, could change. After all, we signed him very late in a summer transfer window and prior to doing so, there was no suggestion he was leaving Real Madrid. Not as far as I can remember anyway.

Chelsea want The Ox, plenty of clubs want Sanchez but no one wants the players we need to sell. Well they do but either the price is too high or their wages are, but again that could all change on transfer deadline day.

Where would that leave us? Scrabbling around trying to find replacements yet again, or will Wenger just walk away, trusting the players he has at his disposal? We know it’s only a matter of time before the words ‘I believe 100% in my players’ or something similar gets churned out and then the seasons pans out as so many before have.

I might be totally wrong though, it could actually be Arsene Wenger who is leaving things late and it’s him who will have the last laugh as he bags Mbappe, Lemar and Carvalho on August 31st… I can hear the roars of laughter bellowing out from here in sunny Berkshire.

Seriously though, as much as Wenger likes to insist Alexis won’t be sold and Chamberlain will be a ‘very great’ player, I just can’t see the club missing out on nearly ยฃ100 million and in all honesty, it wouldn’t make any sense to do so, especially if neither player wants to be at the club. Perhaps what Wenger could have done though is to have been far more proactive early in the summer and signed the kind of players this squad needs for it to truly challenge for the league because that’s all we the fans want. Well, most of us. Players do too and if we had a squad which on paper, looked like it could win the league, perhaps this scenario with the contracts wouldn’t be taking place.

With the seasons opener tomorrow evening, I think we’ll all agree that it’s not a good situation to be in. Neither is having so many absentees for the fixture although I don’t believe Sanchez is injured, not for one minute. Having miraculously recovered from having flu to then pick up a abdominal injury just doesn’t sit right with me, not unless he’s been coughing a lot!

Koscielny is suspended, Gabriel is injured and Mustafi hasn’t played at all since returning from the Confederations Cup so our defence is in a similar situation as it was last season when Liverpool rolled up at The Emirates.

And we know what happened that day!

I’m not around for a few hours so apologies if any comments get stuck in moderation….

I’m Googling the math as we speak, Fred lol
One thing I know is this-even Arsene doesn’t know what Arsene is thinking lol
    Morning all.

  2. Wolfgang says:

As long as Arsenal plays anever ending passing agme, they are ripe for the counter.
Just imagine passing sideways/forward and sideways to retain ball possession.
Wenger shd get OX to run at defenders. This will send them backpedalling and give them less
    time to regroup.
The problem shd the attack be stopped,a through ball can see the gunners conceding a goal
I still feel the defence is an issue.

  3. Lee says:

So do we feel the squad’s weaknesses have been properly addressed in the TW? Do we feel we can win the the PL with this Wenger assembled squad of players or will it be shame shit different season?

Time will tell I guess but honesty who thinks it will pan out any different to the last 13 seasons??

I cannot wait until another manager is given a chance with all the tools that Wenger has at his disposal….

Stair rods yesterday in Newquay, thought it was the English riviera LC??? ?

  4. Bondex says:

Good read Rico,if it really means getting that amount for both players, they should be sold without hesitation but investing well is the problem we’ve always had with AW.

  5. frednerk says:

If all these players are going at the end of the
season for free to other clubs, impossible to
get 100% from any of them..Surely.

Mind you I thought we couldn’t win the Fa Cup.

  6. frednerk says:

Bit rich from Arsene to say these players
won’t be bothered by the contract situation.
When he blames his situation last season
for the dip in focus from him…Funny That.

  7. Wavy says:

You should have listened to me Lee and taken my pledge….never visit Cornwall because it always rains and usually in biblical proportions! Cornish Riviera!!! More like the Cornish rivers!
    Sorry LC you’ve been rumbled!

How could any fan believe this coming season would be any different to last. It all the same old, with same OLD manager. The team is goodish just like the manager he’s goodish but little better than the teams beneath 6th! It was time for a change two seasons ago. We are now seeing the start of a gradual decline imo. We won’t see any movement upwards until the old Frenchman walks down the Holloway Road for the last time. And, by the looks of things the club is going to find itself in a parlous state. Most of the first team squad will have got to the mainline railway stations way before Wenger locks his office door for the last time!
Big club? Not only more, barely in the top half and falling, imo.

Oh well, it’s a sunny day here I’m off outside to play in the garden! Sod football, it’s still the cricket season! And Essex are top! (At the moment). Good to see there are coaches doing a proper job somewhere in the region!

  8. Obi says:

IMHO, AW thought that the last contract would be his last. For that reason, he left the players contract situation for the next manager to bring in his own players, but then last season went so wrong, so he decided to stay and leave on a better note. Because if he really thought he was going to re-up for another 2 seasons the mess is inexplicably. The problem is he’s possibly heading for worse than last season if he doesn’t bring in better reinforcements and tactics.

  9. Meerkat says:

Has Prof finished his business for this window? No one wanted Wheelchair or Ozil. Definitely not Bournmouth! Looking at our first team squad, it’s 32 strong on paper. So we are fine! LOL.

Last year Prof said, ‘it’s the best I’ve had, I’ve got some lovely lads’. We all know how that played out. Our little goonettes didn’t fancy it when the going got tough, LOL.

Last week Monsieur le prof said that ‘it looks like Perez will leave because he wants to, and we have too many strikers’. That’s fine but it’s not what he says when he talks about Alexis, who he knows wants away.
When a player wants out, get the best price you can for him asap, and move on Monsieur.

How will le Prof use Lacazette? With him up top we missed a target man, as shown when Gorgeous came on. Perhaps he should play Gorgeous at CF with Lacazette and A.N Other. just behind.

I admire Kloppy standing firm (so far) He is apparently the stumbling block for Barca to overcome,
He said ‘we are not a selling club’. Good for him, but we all know that in the end Coutinho will probably go. The difference is he signed a five-year contract in January, so they will have to pay dearly.

I am disappointed looking at the transfers every day, and nothing for us.
    C’est la vie.

Afternoon all and another fine post El Rico .

May I say that I read back on every comment, but obviously some dont, why even Rico says she hasn`t always got the time ! ๐Ÿ™‚

M`kat, you have to laugh at that Wenger comment about having his best squad ever last season, he cracks me up sometimes ! hahaha

Now listen Lee and Wavy, you`ve got your bearings mixed up !………………The Cornish Riviera is on the sunny south coast, not north coast ! ๐Ÿ™‚
………………………….and it`s hot in Newquay today as I drove through it !

You at the Boardmasters ,Lee ?…………………………………..I have to drive through that on Saturday, but luckily I should be coming from Padstow and wont get stuck in all the traffic !

  11. Le Coq Monster says:

Saw a headline on newsnow………………”Will failure to sell their deadwood be Arsenal`s undoing this summer?”……………………………….make that Arsene`s undoing as it`s down to him.

I`ve been on other sites where they dont like the term “deadwood”, how you guys and girls feel about it ?………………………..I like it, I mean what else are we supposed to call them ?……………………fcuking shit, instead !. hahaha

  12. Le Coq Monster says:

“Biblical proportions”, Wavy !……………..I`ll start building the Ark now then …………………..fcuk the animals though, I`ll have two of every nationality of women !……………………..and as I sail past Sherwood Forrest, I`ll chuck you a saw and chisel ! hahaha

  13. Lee says:

Yes LC boardmasters is where I am….to be fair the currant has been out pretty much all day today so much so my 13yr old son has been surfing in Watergate bay!
Scantily clad young ladies everywhere, unfortunately I’ve got older shoes than most of them! ?

  14. Le Coq Monster says:

Hahaha Scantily clad indeed…………………only bonus of being stuck in the traffic ! ๐Ÿ™‚ ………………………radio said there will be 50,000 turnout, that`s a least 20,000 scantily clads, I`ll probably go blind on Saturday !……………….being there means no hope for you !………try and concentrate on the music ! ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Rick says:

    Evening Rico and the House.

Great to see you are in good form for the new season Rico.
I am looking for 3 good wins this week end to make it a good start.
Ozil, Ramsey, BFG and Coq all trained with the squad today and are said to be in contention for tomorrows game??

The U23 side are in the international cup this year which means they play 16 games before the end of the year
Now the rules are the same for both league and cup and clubs can play 3 outfield players and the goal keeper over the age of 23.
5 of over 21 payers are under 23 and with the 4 over age players we could play 9 of the 32 squad in the under 23 team
What I am trying to say there is nothing to stop Arsene saying to the likes of Gibbs Jenkinson and Debucy Take your pay cut and leave or I will play you in the U23 side.
Wavy the Essex boys should win the league everything in their favour.

  16. Meerkat says:

If Prof doesn’t sign another top class player, we are in for a rocky ride this season.
Why didn’t we go for a leader on the pitch like Matic. He already lived in London, surely that was half the battle. Now he’s joined the Mancs, one of our fiercest rivals. Have we got a death wish?

Ox is a pain now too. He agreed terms of ยฃ100,000 a week earlier this summer, now he is insisting on ยฃ120, 000 a week. Arsenal have nursed him through untold injuries, and this is how he repays them. They were slow though in not getting it written down in a contract.
Once again, we dithered I suppose.

The deadwood (or fringe players LC, lol), should go and accept lower wages if they want a career in football. If they refuse, they should play for reserves/U23 team, and train with them. Extra training too. Saying they want to stay and fight for their places is a joke.
Wenger should come out and say they have zero chance of first team football. Then they would have to be honest and admit they are willing to never play, and just settle for the money.
Again this is Arsene’s fault, for giving lucrative deals to mediocre talent.

Sanchez, the ‘player who would run through brick walls to play football’, has a sore tum, LOL,and not only won’t be fit for the Leicester game, but not for the next one too! How can they know that in advance, I wonder? LOL.

They are all treating fans like idiots. Be honest Wenger. We all know he doesn’t want to be at Arsenal.Get rid now!!
This should have been done weeks ago, when it was obvious (to me anyway) that he wanted to leave. We don’t need a little shit who thinks he’s too good for Arsenal.

Giroud, on the other hand loves the club and (thank god) doesn’t want to leave, even though he has been courted by numerous clubs at home and abroad.

I’m afraid, very afraid, that this season will be a washout. Again.

  17. Le Coq Monster says:

Any chance, Rico, of a countdown clock of the days, hours, min`s, sec`s `till Wenger`s contract is up ?………………………………………………put it up the top to keep us chirpy ! hahaha

Bit like that clock which counts how many years/days/hours/mins/secs since the Spuds last won the league, I`ll have to find it and put it on again, it helps with the no transfer incomings pain ! hahaha

  18. Wavy says:

Yes Rick, yes. Essex can only lose it now! It’s really amazing what good coaching in depts of the game can achieve, don’t you think? Perhaps the old one should go and watch the cricketers at work, the coaches especially!

  19. Wavy says:

FFP Rico? Where the fcku have earned enough cash to buy Neymar and Mbappe over the past season. I begin to believe that Iran and Saudi Arabia may have reason to think that Qatar are bent!

  20. ScottfromOz says:

I can’t wait until kick off.
Imo, we will not be winning the league, but we can finish thereabouts.
If it is Wengers last season, I hope he leaves money in the bank, and a young, eager squad for the new guy.
    If, if, if lol

  21. ScottfromOz says:

Any PSG players we could use?
Surely they must sell 8-10 lol
FFP, UEFA’s joke on the football world.

  22. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Scott

That add certainly worked for the NRL. Everyone now stays home to watch NRL Friday Night Footy judging by the empty grounds ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. gnarleygeorge9 says:

…….& you know what comes with Summertime this year? The English premier League & The Ashes!

  24. ScottfromOz says:

It’s bloody warm here today, GG.
Incredible considering it’s still winter, 24-25 degrees I’d say.
League is boring to watch now, imo.
Usually night games as well-as always, it’s about television.

  25. ScottfromOz says:

    I’m excited.
I can’t wait, but them, I’m the eternal optimist ๐Ÿ™‚
GG, too many poms in England ๐Ÿ™‚
Nah I could handle living there, but I doubt they’d handle me lol

  26. rico says:

So very true Potter. I’m so excited I overslept…

Scott, there’s too many Overseas folk here already, the last thing England needs is another Shane Warne…. ๐Ÿ˜‰
