Debut day, White & Tierney.

Afternoon all.

It’s debut day for the new boy.

Another start for Arthur Okonkwo which will do him the world of good. Ok, he made a big gaff in the first friendly but he also made a few good saves too. He’s a kid as far as goalkeeping goes but if Arsenal look after him and he’s got the ability to become a great keeper, he will I’m sure. Tierney is back albeit on the bench. This mini Scotland tour was his idea according to Mikel Arteta. He’s a Celtic man, he’ll want to play a part against his old enemy.

In other news, Arsenal and Brighton have agreed a deal for Ben White. If we’re to believe the media, the two clubs have been in talks since the transfer window opened before Arsenal finally made an offer of £50m which Brighton accepted. £50m is a lot of money for a defender but his profile is right. English, young, saleable for a large fee should the big money clubs come calling. The deal isn’t over the line yet and we could yet get gazumped but if the player really wants to move to Arsenal, Arsenal he will move to. At the end of the day, it’s his choice where he moves to.

I’ve counted at least seven players from today’s squad who could yet leave Arsenal. Nelson, Willock and Nketiah are rumoured to be attracting interest from Premier League clubs whilst Bellerin could be heading to Italy.  Elneny, Cedric, AMN and Kolasinac – could all stay but could yet all go. Who knows eh..

Anyway, good luck to the boys. It’s only a friendly, but it’s Gerrard and it’s Rangers.

See you in the comments.

Arsenal have signed White, according to BBC News at One. £50m reportedly

Correction. He’s on his jollies and will sign when he gets back, assuming he’s Covid free and not been to an amber nation,, personally I always quite liked Brighton😀

So, has he signed, will he sign or will the deal be hi-jacked by one of the ‘big’ clubs? You know the ones, those clubs that play in Europe every year, unlike the Arsenal!

I’ll go and read the post now. Thanks Rico

1 nil down from a corner bad marking . Holding has shaved his head looks like Cygan not reassuring

  3. Cicero says:

Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle for the £50m transfer of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White.

White is on holiday so the transfer, including his medical, will not be completed until he returns.

  4. Wavy says:

I suppose I do too, although I think Bisouma would have been a better buy.

I wonder if Balogun will be a hero today?

  5. andrewh1313 says:

How many Baloguns has anyone ever heard of? and they playing against each other!!
    Afternoon house.

  6. Aussie Geoff says:

I agree with picking Okonkwo for this friendly, it will give Arteta a better idea, what the future of this keeper is.

Last I read White and Lokonga will both sign at the end of the month

  7. andrewh1313 says:

‘Rangers showed their class by presenting Arsenal with a signed Bukayo Saka shirt ahead of pre-season friendly’

  8. Potter says:

All over 2 each. Apart from the keeper mess up in first game we have let in 3 goals all from set pieces

  9. Devilgunner says:

    Good evening Rico and all

    I enjoyed the post Rico.

I loved the Tavarez goal. a good finish and he showed Auba how it should be done. A LB who scores with his right on his debut. Although he was largely untested on that side he still showed great skill charging forward. I still feel he will end up on the left…..and Arsenal will need to buy another LB as cover.

  10. ScottfromOz says:

    Devil, throw Auba back there.
    We won’t miss his “finishing”.
Seriously, I’d be filthy to miss 2 of his chances!!!
He just doesn’t seem to be showing any spark at all and I realise it’s pre-season, but after last season, I’d expect to see him absolutely raring to go.

  11. Sue says:

Poor defending and missed chances… we should’ve won and Auba should’ve taken the match ball home with him!
Oh well, there were some positives though – Tavares and his right foot, ESR, Partey, and I didn’t hear Stevie G (turned off at final whistle 😂)…
Matchplay Darts on tonight… plus tickets are on sale for our friendly against the Chavs on August 1st

  12. potter says:

Arsenal have hired Manchester City’s set-piece specialist coach Nicolas Jover to replace Andreas Georgson, That was announced 5th July
Man’s got his work cut out.

  13. Aussie Geoff says:

I wonder why Man city never renewed his contract or why he wanted to leave let’s hope he just wanted a change

  14. Devilgunner says:

I can only comment on the statistics. As I could not see the game. So here goes…..we had 19 shots, 10 on target. We had 62% possession and completed nearly twice as much passes as them. We had an 89% pass accuracy and according to reports our movement was very fluid, especially in channels and space. We did not fall offside and pressed up high.

The only problems were our lack of finishing and our set piece defending.

  15. rico says:

    Mikel Arteta on what’s next:

“Now a little bit of recovery. We trained really hard, played two games, and now we’re going to be travelling to America in the next week. We didn’t have any injuries which is really positive in the first week. We’re going to have some new faces arriving probably, so very positive.”

    New faces arriving…

  16. Devilgunner says:

Yes new faces….he meant the tea lady, the kit manager, the ball boys and the bib washer 😂😂😂😂😂

  17. Devilgunner says:

Imagine Lokonga with the tea lady apron and uniform 😂😂😂😂😂

I think it will be more than those Rico. I still have a feeling about Maddison and another RB.

  18. Devilgunner says:

Kev… can you send me an email please? Because I cleaned my Gmail setup and deleted all email addresses by mistake.

  19. allezkev says:

Hmm, I saw 5 minutes of highlights from the Hibs game and this sounded much of a muchness.

We probably should have won both but as I said to my son on the phone I’d happily lose all our friendlies if it meant we beat Brentford.

Work to do on defending dead balls and as usual our finishing is pants. Improve on those and we’ll be ok.

  20. rico says:

Certainly should have won today’s from the highlights I’ve seen. Nice for Tavares and Nketiah to get goals. Aubameyang – worrying….

  21. Aussie Geoff says:

does any one know how the 2 keepers we used went. I read a small write up about the match but it did not mention the keepers, mainly talked about Auba failing to score.

  22. ScottfromOz says:

Geoff, the keepers did nothing wrong mate.
They could not do anything about the goals and really, they did not have much to do at all.
Hein (spelling) made one really nice save in the second half but off the top of my head, Rangers only had 3-4 shots on target.
    Solid performances.
Tavares won’t be a LB imo….not long term, anyway.
    Damn his finish was nice.
ESR looked brilliant and dangerous every time he had the ball.
Take the two set pieces out and we were dominant, as we should be.

  23. Aussie Geoff says:

Just found short video of Rangers v Arsenal on youtube Our defence seemed to struggle
with set piece, Lets hope we can fix that before the main season starts.
