Deal Done, More to Come but One Person is Sad to see Denilson leave Arsenal.

And that’s Denilson…. 😉

Maybe that’s a bit harsh on our Brazilian as I’m sure a few fans will miss him too, it’s only a loan deal so maybe he’ll be back!

I will be playing in Brazil next season as I felt that this is a good opportunity for me to play regular first-team football.  I move away with sadness because I have so many friends at Arsenal and everyone has always been so supportive towards me.

I want to say thank you to the Club, and of course, also a big thank you to all the Arsenal fans who are very special.

It’s hard to believe that this player is still only 23 years old, he’s been with us so long it’s seems like he should be heading towards his 30’s by now – maybe he still has a lot to learn, maybe he can learn that by playing regular football back in Brazil. Who knows, maybe he will come back next season a much better, more confident and ready to be part of Arsenal again….

Like I say, who knows…..

The signing of Gervinho was all over the afc.com wesite yesterday, can’t wait to see him play now – if his attitude on the pitch matches what he is saying off it, then we could see some good stuff from our new winger/striker.

It’s a great feeling to be an Arsenal player. I’m very happy. I’ve always dreamed to play for this Club. I’ve achieved this dream now and I am so happy. It’s one of the most beautiful days of my life.  I’m very happy to have the chance to work with Arsène Wenger.

I came here because I believe that he can improve my game and help me reach another level, but the most important thing for me is that I bring a lot to the team for whom I’m playing.

It seems he will not be the last new addition to the side either.

There was a reason behind Ivan Gazidis travelling to Asia with Arsene Wenger, other than being on a jolly of course, in an interview with afc.com he had this to say:

We still will be active in this window, we haven’t finished our business at all. We’re just not conducting it publicly; we’re working hard privately.  I was out in Asia because I could be with Arsène for an extended period of time and think very, very carefully about strategy and targets.

We understand where the weaknesses have been. Financially we’re in a strong position, we have resources to spend. We’re certainly not sitting there saying ‘let’s hold back on our resources’ for some reason, why would we?  The resources are there. We’ve got a substantial amount of money that we can invest. The important thing for us, which can be frustrating, is not doing it only in response to a public clamour but in a way that can positively impact our performance next year. That’s the focus now.

Well, there we have it, more words from Ivan and from the horse’s mouth too – IF he is truthing and IF Arsene Wenger is about to finally show Arsenal fans that he is prepared to spend money we could be in for a few snippets of good news in the next few days/weeks.

Just what ‘substantial funds’ mean in Arsenal terms I don’t know but it all sounds a lot more positive this morning than it has done for the past few days when listening to Arsene Wenger.

Or, is this just more spin as Season Ticket sales are down……

Time will tell….

Have a good day all……

Morning WATH, catching the worm 😉

I’ll believe it when i see it too – the Campbell deal has fallen through then…..

  2. goonerstan says:

That humberto campbell is a turd…..that’s all i can say. Glad we won’t be signing his son. What a loser…morning Rico

  3. rico says:

Wikki have had his shown as an arsenal player for several days now but this morning that has all been changed – i wonder how much truth this story holds, just like the Alvarez one..

Good job we don’t rely on afc.com to update us….

  4. goonerstan says:

Yeah they stood our reps up…they didn’t show up. Said they needed time or something…I think he’s a greedy punk who might ruin his son’s career.

  5. goonerstan says:

Good thing he’s not coming though….he might ruin our chance of ever getting ryodinho a special talent visa this season and I think ryodinho is gonna have more impact on the forthcoming season than him.

  6. Savage says:

I wonder if Arsenal will come back in for him if the Campbells phone back after the tournament and say they want to deal?

That would be sweet justice if Arsenal said no. Then again, if he’s a genuine talent, I want him at the club.

  7. rico says:

Good point – also, if its all about money at this young stage in his life then he’ll just be like it all the way through, especially if his father remains his ‘agent’….

Hi Savage, if he wanted to play for arsenal he would have turned up last night – don’t need players like him at afc… imho

  8. Will says:

Rico, I saw that ‘substantial funds’ bit and I wondered, did he mean substantial in premier league ways or, Arsenal ways.

I am still believing this will be our summer.

  9. goonerstan says:

Sorry savage but we don’t need another father yapping on about how good his son is….imagine if in a few years this campbell dude is still warming the bench….what do u think his loud mouth father will say….I say to hell with them anyway. There’s only one CAMPBELL and its big SOL!

  10. rico says:

Suggestion is we have rejected a bid for Lansbury from Norwich, hope this means he’s staying, especially now denilson is long gone for a season….

  11. goonerstan says:

Lansbury! Lansbury!! Lansbury!!! What can I say? This kid burns me up. Did u guys see the look on his face after he scored against the spuds at shite hart lane. It was priceless. This guy is a gooner he needs to be playing for us…..he is way better than denilshit and will give more to the cause than nasri, diaby and bendtner put together..

  12. rico says:

You and me both Stan, i can still see his face now – can’t let him go, not for love nor money…..

‘he is way better than denilshit and will give more to the cause than nasri, diaby and bendtner put together..’

    Too darn right……

  13. Will says:

Thing is, if we keep Cesc and Nasri and we have Jack and Rambo also fighting for a place, where does lansbury fit in?

Are we keeping him out of selfishness and harming his career?

  14. Savage says:

Should I judge you by what your father says? Be careful who you write off, based on one ex player.

  15. goonerstan says:

Wenger is taking the soul out of arsenal…kids that wanna bleed for us are being sold while dirtbag like “spuds wearing shirt diaby are still on our pay roll. We need more players like lansbury.

  16. Adam says:

Morning Rico. Why is I can’t I read anything coming out of Arsenal these days without feeling a sense of disbelief coupled with a yawn of indifference? Gazidis always says the right thing but it’s all smoke and mirrors. He could have had a great career at News International. Experience tells me it’s probably best to ignore him and Hill-Wood and probably Wenger too unfortunately. Did anyone see that program last night about buying football clubs featuring a drunken man in the shape of Bryan Robson? It was both funny and disturbing and when dodgy managers were being mentioned I noticed Old Twitchy was in the frame.

  17. Will says:

    Good old Hill-Wood.

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood insists they have not heard from Barcelona about Cesc Fabregas since rejecting their first offer for the midfielder.

Fabregas’ future at Arsenal has again dominated the headlines this summer with Barcelona once again making overtures to lure the player back to Spain.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to keep hold of Fabregas, but wants the transfer saga resolved one way or another before the new season gets underway.

Hill-Wood admits Arsenal would consider a ‘very good offer’ from Barcelona for Fabregas, but he claims he is not sure how keen the Spanish champions are on signing the Gunners skipper.

“I am not sure how keen they are. There are still stories in the (Spanish) press, but they don’t talk to us,” Hill-Wood told the Daily Star.

“They’ve made one offer, which works out at around £26m, but that was ages ago.

“I am not sure how keen they are. There are still stories in the (Spanish) press, but they don’t talk to us.”
Peter Hill-Wood on Barcelona’s interest in Cesc Fabregas Quotes of the week

“But at the moment our situation is very straight-forward: we don’t want to lose him.

“Obviously if they come up with an offer which was a very good offer we would have to think about it.

“We have told them a number of times that what they are proposing is unacceptable and yet they haven’t moved on it.

“I don’t approve of what they are doing, but unfortunately it seems the way of the world right now.”

Hill-Wood admits he has become bored of the constant speculation surrounding Fabregas and a possible return to his hometown club.

“It has become a real bore and an unnecessary interruption to what we are trying to achieve,” added Hill-Wood.

    Nasri interest

Hill-Wood also revealed he is not happy with Manchester City’s pursuit of Samir Nasri.

City boss Roberto Mancini recently confirmed they were hoping to sign Nasri this summer.

Nasri has been linked with a move away from Arsenal with the Frenchman yet to agree a new deal at Emirates Stadium.

However, Hill-Wood is determined to keep the skilful midfielder at Arsenal despite the player entering the final year of his contract.

“City seem to have more money than anybody else, and they keep splashing it around all over the place,” added Hill-Wood.

“But our position is very straightforward: we don’t want the player to leave.”

  18. rico says:

You think your way savage and I will think mine….

stan, absolutely, we need a few playing who know what a NLD means to the fans, for me Lansbury is one of them…

  19. rico says:

    Morning Adam

You probably think that way because we have heard it so many times before, without any real action – time will tell this time i guess… But it is interesting that he says that at the same time as news that 6500 ST holders have not re-newed…

I saw the programme, Bryan Robson did himself no favours did he, poor old Arry, Bruce, Red Nose, Keane and Hughes eh 😉

  20. rob says:

im concerned that Gazidis said ” I was out in Asia because I could be with Arsène for an extended period of time and think very, very carefully about strategy and targets.”
are you telling me that this was not sorted before they went ? there were no targets before they left? what are they waiting for ? we knew 4,5,6 years ago what was needed yet we are being told that the club are still not sure of what is required.
how much longer can this go on

  21. rico says:

    I don’t know why PHW bothers…..

JM, Chavs, had to be them or Citeh didn’t it….

    Hi alan…

Will, i think ‘substancial’ means, ‘for arsenal’…..

  22. goonerstan says:

I hope we get a work permit for ryidinho…..am actually crazy about that kid….hope we get him. Can’t wait to see him tear teams apart. Imagine a left back that had spent all day chasing theo then towards the end of the game say fifteen minutes to go we bring in ryo miyaichi..what do u think will be going through that left back’s mind. Even the mancs and chavs will think twice about attacking us.

  23. rico says:

rob, maybe IG needed to see it with his own eyes to believe it 😉

if we were serious about transfers, they should have been done by now with the players in training and gelling together…

  24. rico says:

Kyle Bartley says he is ready to break into the Arsenal first team this season after making giant strides during his time at Rangers.

The commanding central defender was on the fringes of Arsène Wenger’s squad last summer but the manager decided another loan spell would be best for his development. Bartley headed to Sheffield United before making the switch to Rangers, where he excelled as the Scottish giants secured a League and Cup Double.

Now, after fine-tuning his game and learning a thing or two in the high-pressure environment of Ibrox, Bartley feels he has what it takes to be an Arsenal player.

“If I’m honest, I don’t think I was anywhere near the level to play for Arsenal last season,” he told Arsenal.com. “But I’ve come back, I feel really strong and I feel that I am ready now.

“I learned the demands of being at a top football club who are trying to win things and how important it is to be a champion and a winner. Every time you step on the pitch, you are going out there to win so there is a lot of pressure on you.

“I think I can offer something else [because] I am a little bit different to the other centre backs. I like the physical side of the game and I see myself as a leader. If Arsène decides that he wants me in the first team then that will be fantastic.”

Bartley wasn’t part of the squad that travelled to Asia because he had not fully recovered from a medial ligament injury sustained while north of the border.

He will link up with the first-team squad when they return to training on Tuesday and the 19-year-old is hoping to catch his manager’s eye ahead of this week’s trip to Germany.

“I spoke to the boss on the Friday before they left [for Asia] and he told me that they had four centre backs [going on the tour] and obviously I wasn’t fully over my injury yet. It’s just one of those things.

“It was always the aim to get back for the start of pre-season because it’s an important time of the year. I will be back with them on Tuesday when they are back in training with a view to going to Germany with them.

“He has said he doesn’t want me going on loan yet and he hasn’t made his mind up. My hopes are the same as every year, to be an Arsenal first-team player. Hopefully, this year, that will happen.”

  25. Will says:

Think about it guys. Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City, they ALL change their game when we play them because they fear us, if they didn’t, they would not play as defensive as they do. Remember, we are the only team to beat Barca in the Champions League and we came damn close to winning not one but easily two or three competitions so they team isn’t as bad as some of you make out.

Yes, we are missing something, misisng a leader I would say, someone who can roll up their sleeves and drag the weak mentalities of some of our players but, we are not missing that much so chin up guys.

  26. Adam says:

The 6500 non- renewals tells only part of the story. How many people have loaned their ST out? Lots of them and I know quite a few more who would like to. Once you let it go it will be difficult to get another. When the club start behaving as if they are full of ambition and unwilling to tread water and accept CL qualification as adequate success those people will come back. As I mentioned before, Wenger’s greatest trick has been in convincing so many that we are a poor club financially. I do not suggest that we can compete with the kind of money that the usual suspects have, but this constant hand-wringing is irritating from a club that commands over £3 million every home game, has the best stadium in England, with an entirely manageable debt structure and is owned by a billionaire. Ambition is an ideal and a vibe that exemplifies a club’s atmosphere. After 5 years of a 3 year experiment that has failed is it any wonder that faithful and loyal fans are asking questions that are not being answered?

  27. Will says:

I think Bartley could be the player we are looking for, I mean come on, if he can withstand the ocks, those northern monkeys should be nothing.

  28. rico says:

I’m surprised it has taken quite so long Adam, i thought all what seems to be happening now would have happened last summer if not before…..

We get sucked in by the promises made by all so often get let down…

January transfer window just gone still haunts me…..

  29. Adam says:

Rico. I agree completely. If a manager tells you he has identified what is needed and wants to buy “super-class” players you should be expecting more than Koscielny and Squillaci. Last January’s missed opportunity to strengthen was not the work of someone who was in command of any logic or plan.

  30. rico says:

That’s just it Adam, a defender and keeper back in January may just have won us the league – the boost it would have given them… Just like AA did when he arrived that January….

No Will because if he is good enough he will show it,, it would hopefully kill off Squilli!

  31. Will says:

Exactly Rico, I was taking the mickey. If Bartley is that good, no matter who we bring in won’t matter and if we do bring in Cahill, it is up to Bartley to get better and if he can’t, he is not good enough for us.

  32. rico says:

Rumour for you and it’s just another ‘fun one’

Barca and AFC have agreed a deal for Fabregas

We get 20 Million and David Villa….. 🙂

  33. arsenal fan says:

    good post rico….
hope gazidis saying turns out to be true….hope we are in for good suprises…

  34. arsenal fan says:

i have a feeling we will get romelu lukaku…another youngster just the signing wenger would make……but lukaku signing would be a great signing…..coz atleast he is not a unknown youngster..

  35. arsenal fan says:

but lukaku will get the most playing time at arsenal….at chavs they just bought torres for 50 million and already have drogba, anelka, kalou, sturridge while we have rvp who would as always miss half of the season, chamakh who will go for the african cup,nik b is mostly leaving, and i dont know if vela is good enough….

  36. oliver says:

morning all…sweet talk from gazidis, but lets just see what is actually done. i am confident that there is some money available and that club management is looking at players for specific needs. that does not automatically mean we will actually bring anyone in. as they say, the proof will in the pudding come the end of august…

regarding campbell, my understand is that his pops decided to hold off on committing, at least until costa rica is done in the copa. perhaps there are other other offers, perhaps he is counting on his son impressing further and getting additional offers…whatever, this seems clearly a business decision…like it or not, this is how these things usually go nowadays. i am not going to stress over this too much – we have more urgent needs than this kid. if we offered the player and his club good terms, and the players pops wants to hold out for better offers/more money, that is their right…

  37. oliver says:

rico, what is up with your page here? this is not the first recent time it appears to have crashed…

  38. Will says:

Soccer : Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola has claimed Arsenal have already begun negotiations on a fee for Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas and insists the Catalans will “fight to the end” to get their man.

The Spain midfielder is a long-term target for the Spanish and European champions and, flanked by sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, Guardiola told a news conference today that Arsenal are considering the sale ahead of the transfer deadline at the end of next month.

“This year Arsenal has agreed to negotiate and we are working on it,” Guardiola said. “Barcelona has made an offer, Arsenal another, and we have time until August 31st and we’ll try to reach an agreement,” added the 40-year-old.

“There is a sum of money in the strong box set aside for this signing but if it doesn’t work out it will be kept in the box for something else. We will fight to the end to try to get Cesc because we believe he will improve the team and the squad.”

The 24-year-old came through Barcelona’s youth academy at the same time as World Player of the Year Lionel Messi, before joining Arsenal in 2003 at the age of 16.

He discussed his situation with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger when he returned for pre-season training this month and did not join his team mates on a tour of Asia due to injury.

Wenger is trying to convince Fabregas there would be no greater achievement for him than to lead Arsenal to success and that it is not the right time for him to leave England.

The Frenchman has insisted he believes Fabregas will be an Arsenal player next season.

Guardiola said that despite the push to land Fabregas, his priority is to sign a forward and Zubizarreta said the club were close to completing the purchase of Chile striker Alexis Sanchez from Serie A side Udinese.

Barca were also on the verge of selling striker Bojan Krkic to AS Roma, who have hired former Barca B coach Luis Enrique to lead them for the coming season, Zubizarreta added.

“As we understand it we are in the final stages of the negotiations [to sign Sanchez] and an agreement will happen very soon,” former Barca and Spain goalkeeper Zubizarreta said. “But I would have said the same thing this time last week. As in a good film, it seems sometimes the end takes a little longer,” he added.

  39. rico says:

Hi oliver, didn’t realise it had crashed… 🙁

I’ll have to see if i can find out, thanks for letting me know though…

  40. oliver says:

hi rico. when i posted my first comment, the text i had typed remained inside the “leave a reply” box even after the comment was displayed on the page – that is what made me think it crashed…i’ve seen that a couple of times over the past few weeks…

  41. rico says:

Dog walk time for me, back in a bit….

Re Cesc, i think the btwo clubs have been negotiating for the last two years 😉

  42. arsenal fan says:

luis suarez could miss the epl fixture against us due to copa america……a blessing in disguise…

  43. MikeB says:

    Will,

Guardiola doesn’t have to ‘fight to the end’ for Cesc… who the hell does he think he is…> El Cid?

All he has to do is make a sensible offer at a fair price.

When are these arogant bastards going to stop this crap????

  44. MikeB says:

    Sorry Folks,

Didn’t seem to be anyone around, and so went off and listened to some Sidney Bechet… feeling better now.

AF… God am I sick of rumours.

  45. Will says:

Well, we do our transfer business (what business there is) in quiet and behind locked doors. We never shout to the world who we are going for and I like that unlike Barca who use the media and Man City who tell teh world who they are going for and think ther money will do it for them.

  46. rico says:

But you said we are loud and crass???

Did see the story about Nasri has agreed a deal with Citeh, to be announced tomorrow…

    Yawnnnnnnnn
