‘Crunch talks’ for CDM. Stupid statements & Llorente set for Emirates switch?

Morning all.

The next step in this pre-season arrives tomorrow as The Emirates Cup kicks off and I’m looking forward to it. So is Arsene:

Personally I love the Emirates Cup because it’s competitive without having too much pressure on the games.

It’s the first time that we reunite with our fans in our local stadium and I find that great. It’s always a sell-out, and gives opportunities to people who usually cannot come to watch the team.

It is vital for preparation. The international players came back quite late on July 11, so when you think that they have less than four weeks to prepare for the first Premier League game, it’s very short.

The Emirates Cup on a preparation front is very important.

I’d love to be going to be honest, especially for the Lyon game as it’d be great to what all the fuss is about Lacazette.

But I wonder what the manager will get out of the competition other than knowing the boys have had yet another good work out. Will his further transfer window movements be decided by what he sees this weekend?

Well I’d like to think not because whatever targets he has should be clear in his mind by now, in fact they should have been clear in his mind by the end of last season. Of course not all transfer targets can be bought as either clubs refuse to sell, a player doesn’t want to move or one of the mega rich clubs just bulldoze in and offer stupid money together with crazy wages and we know Arsenal won’t get involved in stuff like that, just as they won’t get involved in a bidding war with the rich clubs and I don’t blame them.

Arsene Wenger likes players who want to be at Arsenal, players who regardless of what other clubs offer, they choose us. Alexis proved that last summer when he could have earned more money at Liverpool (reportedly) and Chelsea but he only wanted Arsenal. Ozil the same imo, I’m sure Utd wanted him despite what the Manchester side said but he came to us. Petr Cech too, he could have gone anywhere couldn’t he….

So, to find a a couple more players like that can’t be easy and perhaps that’s why it’s taking so long…

It’s all very well Lord Harris coming out and telling the world Arsene Wenger has £200m at his disposal but what good has that done? None in my opinion in fact I’d say his comments will do more harm than good and I bet Arsene Wenger is seething. Telling everyone that we are rich will encourage clubs to push for an extra few million for their player as they now know we can afford it!

Also, what message does this send out to the fans? Many already feel that the manager is a Scrooge with the clubs money and those same fans will now expect him to spend more, some will think he should spend it all but that will never happen and imo, nor should it.

But I sure hope he spends some of it!

Transfer gossip:

  • Arsenal are preparing an £8m bid for Juventus striker Fernando Llorente. (The Sun & Star)
  • Arsene Wenger has been told he can break Arsenal’s transfer record to sign a world-class striker. (All)
  • Arsenal have been warned off making a bid for Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after they were linked with a £28.7m bid. (Independent)
  • Barcelona starlet Sergi Samper is set for crunch talks with the club amid interest from Arsenal, according to his agent. (Express)

Finally, good luck to Abou Diaby who is apparently close to joining WBA on a ‘pay as you play’ deal.

Have a great Friday guys….

Lewandowski would be amazing. I’d be happy with Benzema if we get him, but I still feel another CDM is the most important. Maybe one of the Bendar brothers?

  2. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Just read the post Rico.

I cannot but agree with you on everything esp the silly comments by Lord Shaggis of Scooby doo.

    Good post.

The problem I have is that I am confused a bit…….Is is a stupid comment made by a perso?? ….. OR…… A comment made by a stupid person???

  3. tsgh says:

    Good read Rico.

Hey Bev or is it Dev…? from your previous page

    I will go for 1) Lewandowski 2) Boomerang 3) Lacasette 4) 2) Benz

  4. frednerk says:

Like the bit about the spuds selling bale for 85 million and buying 110 million worth
    of rubbish.
Lord Harris telling the world we have bucket loads of dough..now everybody know.
Even the..Where the Fcuk are Tribe..know we’ve been tanked up for the last
    3 years.

  5. snaparse says:

Good post Rico would love lewa…… Why go for sampler when we can get illaramendi? Would even prefer casemiero…

  6. rico says:

They sure did that Fred, I see AW has had a dig at Utd too for their ‘want it now’ policy and an ex Dipper man reckons Brenda has been on another bad spending spree like last summer…

  7. snaparse says:

Hi t sorry I read your post late…….re gueye I think I mentioned him last summer he has really improved technically as he has always been a good tactical defender and I think he will do well for villa amavi is the one you should really watch out for cracking talent imo

  8. tsgh says:

Yes we talked about Idrissa a few months back…

I am in agreement with you re Assier or Casemiero..

What do you think about Ander of Bilbao… a cheap version of javi mArtinez but more technical imo…

  9. Steve says:

I always thought that Arsenal Holdings was a PLC and our accounts, including our cash reserves were a matter of public record.

Arsenal board members ( Hill-Wood, Edelman, Gazidas, etc) have been saying for the last ten years that Wenger has money to spend if he needs it. Whats changed ?

    Morning All

    Morning Rico

    Morning Munchers and Crunchers…

Arsenal may well have £200m in the bank.
But how much of that is for buying players?
And how much of it is for servicing existing debts, like payments to Real and Barca for Ozil and Alexis, amongst other things?

Harris should stick to carpet fitting.

  11. rico says:

Steve, they are but what money we have in the bank and what AW is given is possibly two different things, however, Mr Carpetright has just suggested AW could spend £200 million…

  12. Malaga gooner says:

Why are people so annoyed with Lord Harris
We can all see the money is there
    The accounts don’t lie

  13. Hell Raising Devil says:

MG….its one thing having transparent accounts and its another boasting about it.

Lord Shaggis should not have boasted about it.

as Kev rightly pointed out…..”But how much of that is for buying players?
And how much of it is for servicing existing debts, like payments to Real and Barca for Ozil and Alexis, amongst other things?”

yes Kev (of the Munchers and Crunchers….I like it bdw) Lord Shaggis should stick to carpet fitting. but then he would surely boast of how much carpets he has fitted dont you think???

  14. Hell Raising Devil says:

yesterday I saw WHU in their Europa cup game against Birkirkara.

If they play like they did yesterday against us I can see us wallopping them (if we turn up). they were so poor.

during last season there was talk of AFC going for Cresswell. If what I saw yesterday is anything to go by then its better for AFC to back for Eboue and stick him in the LB role. He would fare better than Cresswell who was really bad.

  15. allezkev says:

    Hiya Coach…

    Yes I do like a munch habib…

I was munching a nice curry a couple of days ago, very nice it was…

You have to wonder about the people running our club?
They’re supposed to be intelligent businessmen…

    I wouldn’t let them run for a bus…

  16. Steve says:

Lord Harris, D Mail, 24/7/15, “Money was tight when we moved to the Emirates but it’s a lot freer now,’ said the 72-year-old. ‘We could go into the market and probably buy any player in the world, apart from half a dozen who are un-buyable. In the accounts, there’s over £200million in the bank. You could say to Arsene we’ve got no money and he wouldn’t worry, or you could give him £100m and he might not spend it.”

I can’t help thinking some supporters are completely over-reacting to a perfectly straightforward comment.

  17. Dublingunner says:

Afternoon, I don,t mind him speaking about it, if we actually go out and spend a good chunk of it, but it does put unnecessary pressure on our transfer dealings. I was just surprised he spoke so freely about it, considering they do keep their cards so close to there chest, particularly, when he said “Wenger gave them a list ( of possible transfers), and on it is one striker, “we think he wants to come to us.” surely that can,t be Benzema, he doesnt want a move, as he,s rep said to bryan swanson of sky sports, Karim will be with Madrid 1000% at the end of the transfer window. Interesting.

  18. rico says:

Dublin, I can’t see AW getting Benzema either, but I wonder which striker he wants… Wish they’d hurry up and sign him and a Cdm… lol

  19. Dublingunner says:

City badly whipped, Delph carried off, on debut.
Looks like pedro is in talks with United.

  20. snaparse says:

Very true Rico I remember you told me about him when will were talking about laporte……I haven’t really seen him much but will try I like the idea of playmaking defensive midfielder as arteta is our only real one

  21. Dublingunner says:

You and me, both Rico re 12.58. It would be interseting now to see have Munich got their eyes on a striker i.e “cover”. that would tell a story

  22. Dublingunner says:

I forgot they,ve brought in Costa for 30m euro, and surely Gotze if he stays will see more game time this season, could be cover enough. just trying to put 2 + 2 together here.

  23. Silky says:

    Good read Rico!
    Hello ALL!!!!
Lewandowski imagine it, that would be amazeballs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But would Bayern let him leave? Dont think so…
If we couldn’t get him i would hope Austin or Berahino would be next on the list proven goalscorers and homegrown.
Kinda feel we missed a trick on Mirovic, what a bully and a goalscorer!.!.
I dont no how i feel about Benzema.
Cavani the same, he seems to have lost that special something that he had in abundance during his Napoli days.
Also a Pedro or Draxler type player would be OK.
i think Wenger could turn Draxler into a complete superstar!!!!!!

  24. Silky says:

it looks like it, still hard to get your head around why we are not after him this summer i mean he’s a 20 year old WC Winner available for less than when we previously attempted to sign him.
i mite also add he hadnt won the WC when we were after him in other TWs

  25. eduardo says:

lord harris’s interview actually contains very few actual quotes from him, (a lot of what is in the article seems to be the journos slant on things and not from Harris) and he states little we did not know – £200M in the club accounts(he did not say £200M to spend on transfers) – Wenger has asked for certain players(we all know its the manager who picks the targets, it should be no other way), Wenger wants a world class striker and it might mean us breaking our transfer record(as that is £42.5M would anyone be surprised if we broke it for a world class striker), the likes of Messi and Ronaldo and a few others are outside our transfer scope(who did not know this), money was tight when we moved to the Emirates, but it is not an issue now(again who does not know this already)

having said all that, I do think its an ill advised interview, but as someone else pointed out, Harris is probably trolling the AAA’s, just like Hill-Wood done so very well.

  26. eduardo says:

Wenger had today contradicted Harris, says we do not have a striker lined up, suggested we are interested in one,
AW also says Flamini has a knock and Szczesny might be unavailable for Emirates cup, he also stressed that Szczesny has a long term future with Arsenal. And Welbeck is not back in training yet.
Gnabry, Bielik, Iwobi and Reine-Adelaide all trained with the first team today.

  27. eduardo says:

maybe the reason why we are not after Draxler now is cos we have Alexis, and also the lad only played 10 games last season.

  28. rico says:

I got confused as he wears the number 36 normally..

He’s bulked up as far as I can see, bang goes the CDM signing if he has a good weekend..

  29. Wavy says:

Is that such a bad thing Rico? Think how much money the club will save! All grist to the mill and he may turn out to be a world class player in the fullness of time! Project youth is not yet dead! It keeps on giving, the football stork that is!
The same argument may be applied to the CF or striker. I’m putting my faith in………Afobe, not Sirnogoals, the new Ajax cleaner, for the older readers the Ajax reference!

  30. Wavy says:

Meant to add, Wenger’s reference to Welbeck not yet training is rather worrying. He has been injured for a very long while, and I’m not sure what ails the poor chap….I smell a rat, perhaps. Is he really injured or has he some other undisclosed problem?

  31. rico says:

Ha ha Wavy, I’ll hang on with some hope I’m wrong….

Welbeck was linked to a move away yesterday, could that be the rat….

  32. tsgh says:

Good to see one of my fave players in the squad back to full first team training… Serge. I wonder how important he would be if he had not become injured.

  33. tsgh says:

AW surely should be attempting to get Pjanic to come this way with Scez going to Roma.

I wonder how Scez and Nainngolan will get on…

  34. tsgh says:

Alexey Smertin replaces Hulk as one of FIFA’s WC draw assistants. This comes days after Hulk speaks up about racism in Russian football.

woah!! The best football kit must surely be Frankfurts new away kit…

  35. Rick says:

    Evening Rico and the House.
I know its a little bit wet today but this must be the joke of the year.
The game against Boringwood is off. Pitch waterlogged,

  36. allezkev says:

Nah Rico, they know that Arsenal are worth watching…

Unlike Chelsea, who are footballs sleeping tablets…

  37. Rick says:

No line up or squad was released Ginge.
I understand that Hayden Toral Crowley and Zelamin were expected to be there.
Did you read about Ryo. Cruciate ligament injury in his first game for his new
club thought to be out for a very long time

  38. eduardo says:

wavy on welbeck, Wenger said he is due to return to outdoors training this weekend and will be ready to return to first team action for our second league game in three weeks time.

  39. Joe says:

Been as we are asking Rico questions can I wear a red tie with a navy suit.
Evening Rico and the rest of the house.

  40. Rick says:

You are right Rico we will hit the ground running against the Hammers.
They are away to the Rumanian side Astra Grug on the Thurs before they play us,
They don’t get back untill midday friday.

  41. allezkev says:

    Evening All….

Shame about the game at Borehamwood tonight, I was tempted to go, but it’s just too much of a slog up there…

  42. BT62 Gooner says:

Morning Adam,Rico and all, all good Adam, great to be alive on day like today, how are you and Mrs A. keeping?

  43. Adam says:

Not bad thanks though Mrs Adam cannot understand why a man might need six guitars when he can only play one at a time. I question the need for 30 pairs of Maharishi trousers. So, business as usual. 🙂

  44. BT62 Gooner says:

Sounds like i’ve heard that before, the other half is heading for a coaching course in Highbury in November, as sods law would have it, we are away to Norwich that weekend….Shame
