Crossing the divide. Rounding up the rumours.

Morning all.

Twitter is a great thing, or at least it is much of the time. Like any social media outlet or football blog etc, there’s always the odd few who think it’s their place and right to say what they like to who they like, but otherwise, it’s informative. Footballers hang out there, their agents do too and speculation over who is signing for who is rife.

Jonathan Dinzeyi was on there yesterday talking about his recent switch from white to red and white.

I’m a ball-playing centre half. I love to tackle and win headers and keeping clean sheets for me is vital. If I don’t then it really hurts me. I just love doing my job.

It’s a great feeling. Arsenal is a massive club and they were actually the first club I supported as a child. They have a great history and with the new manager coming in who likes to play a lot of young players.

Dinzeyi will be joining up with Steve Bould and the under 23 squad but if he’s good, I doubt he’ll be with them for long. To make the move to Arsenal is brave, even at his age, although I think we humans are more fearless the younger we are but even so, he’ll face a bit of abuse from the stands during a NLD. Just as a few before him have, Sol Campbell would testify to that I’m sure.

Harry Kane made the switch but at an early age. Having played for a local club, Ridgeway Rovers, he joined the Arsenal youth academy when he was eight years old. He was released after one season for being “a bit chubby” and not “very athletic”, according to Liam Brady. As much as the media like to make out Arsenal lost ‘one of their own’ to the Toots, I don’t really believe that’s been the case. Unlike Big Sol, he’s won nothing.

Pat Jennings was another to play for both clubs along with William Gallas, Willie Young and Adebayor to name just a few but other than David Bentley, I cant think of a true Arsenal boy crossing over to the dark side. Overall, I think we’ve come out of things much better than our neighbours. Arsenal must have seen something they liked in Dinzeyi to bring his to the club so fingers crossed Steve Bould can only improve his defensive abilities. How good would it be to see him in the Arsenal defence in the future, especially if he nods in the winner off of a set-piece in a NLD.

There’s a few strange transfer rumours going around involving Hector Bellerin, Matteo Guendouzi, AMN and Kolasinac. If Bellerin really has been offered to PSG, then selling AMN seems strange. Same with Kolasinac because if he goes out on loan as headlines on NN suggest, AMN is the best option to provide cover for Kieran Tierney surely? That’s the point I’ve been trying to make about the versatility of AMN, he can cover in so many positions, and cover well. He’s proved that over the latter part of the season. Mahrez is a very good player yet he’s probably still trying to find his way out of AMN pocket after the FA Cup semi-final.

I know Arsenal have to sell players, not only to raise money but also to free up squad places for any new signings along with the arrival of William Saliba but selling AMN and Rob Holding, if the club do of course, leaves me scratching my head a bit. Same goes for Hector Bellerin who like the other two, is homegrown. Not for one minute am I trying to suggest I know better than Edu and Arteta but logic sometimes presents the bleedin obvious. Cedric Soares at right-back rather than AMN or Bellerin? No thanks. Same at left-back when cover is needed, AMN is better there than Bukayo Saka in my opinion.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Just like waiting for the news of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signing his new contract and Gabriel becoming an Arsenal player.

Other transfer rumours:

PSG are interested in taking Matteo Guendouzi off of our hands. The Sun.

Arsenal, Everton and West Ham are monitoring Barcelona midfielder Rafinha. The Express.

Finally, FIFA has decided clubs do not have to release players for international duty if there is a mandatory quarantine or self-isolation period in either the country where the match will be played or the player’s club is based.

At least something from FIFA makes sense…

See you in the comments guys.

Morning rico, house, nice article. With AMN improved recent performances (and less laid back appearance!) I think it’s the earlier indiscretions that are responsible. Personally, I thought it was disrespectful to force a new manager to drop you from squads for bad attitude in training (allegedly arriving late for sessions more than once). As we have seen with Goundouzi, Arteta will clamp down hard on poor attitude, and if he really wanted Ashley, I’m sure he wouldn’t be up for sale. Willing to trust Arteta‘s judgement on this.

I find the Bellerin rumours harder to understand, hoping they are press stories with no substance. Mind you, he was caught smoking in pictures on recent holiday, hardly in line with his healthy and vegetarian views. But he seemed to have regained his pace after injury, with that great run in the final.

  2. Cicero says:

Good morning Rico, I like your optimism about Bould improving young Dinzeyi’s defending, it’s just that Bould signally failed to make any improvement to any of the multitude of defenders who passed through his hands under Wenger, Lundberg or Emery. Still you are a half full glass type of person 😉, I do hope you aren’t disappointed.

  3. rico says:

    Morning Andrew, how’re things?

I see it differently to you re AMN, I see the positive response to the alleged rollicking etc. The squad have been far too complacent over recent years, he was just a bit slow to realise those days were over.

Must say, I’m surprised Hector is a smoker..

  4. rico says:

Morning Cicero, didn’t Bould day he was glad to be back coaching after moving to the under 23’s? I took that as meaning he barely coached the defence through the Wenger latter years. Emery has his own coaches.

  5. Cicero says:

I don’t understand how inhaling the fumes from burning plants can be anathema to vegans. Now if Bellerin was smoking Herrings or Haddock that would be a whole different kettle of fish. 😁

  6. andrewh1313 says:

So so Rico. Had further steroids last week, with three injections direct into inner-ear, not nice. Have got a little hearing back in right ear, but no treble, not a lot of improvement and injections were the last treatment, basically, what you haven’t got back within a month, is it. Worse is a constant feeling of hazyness/dizzyness when getting up and down off sofa, pottering around, etc. Only time feel 100% is walking fast looking straight ahead or running!

Yes, didn’t reconcile Bellerin smoking with his well-publicized green views!

  7. Cicero says:

Keep your chin up Andrew, pun intended 😉

I suffered the same haziness/dizziness after my heart attack, it was eventually traced to low blood pressure due to the medication I was taking for high blood pressure.

Exercises to improve your balance will help, just don’t jump up from the sofa our leap out of bed suddenly.

Sixteen Logical Reasons Why Some Men Have Dogs And Not Wives:

    1. The later you are, the more
excited your dog is to see you.

    2. Dogs don’t notice if you call them
    by another dog’s name.

    3. Dogs like it if you leave lots
    of things on the floor.

    4. Dogs’ parents never visit.

    5. Dogs agree that you have to raise your voice to get your point across.

    6. You never have to wait for a dog; they’re ready to go, instantly, 24 hours a day.

    7. Dogs find you amusing when you’re pissed.

    8. Dogs like to go hunting and fishing.

    9. Dogs won’t wake you up at night to ask: “If I died, would you get another dog?”

    10. If a dog has babies, you can put an ad in the paper and sell ’em.

    11. When you drop a silent one, dogs don’t run around frantically with room spray.

    13. Dogs never tell you to stop scratching your balls. Instead, they sit pondering why you don’t lick ’em.
    14. Dogs will let you put a studded collar on, without calling you a pervert.

    15. If a dog smells another dog on you, it won’t kick you in the crotch; it just finds it interesting.

    And last, but not least:

    16. If a dog runs off and leaves you, it won’t take half your stuff.

To verify these statements: Lock your wife and your dog in the garage for an hour.
Then open the door, and observe who’s happy to see you!

  9. ScottfromOz says:

Cicero, and my dog won her 13th race last night, so it’s all positive hahaha
Though our beautiful old Labrador is still my favourite 🙂
    Morning all.
Andrew, I hope that small amount of improvement for you is merely the start.
    Thoughts are with you mate.

  10. Billy Blankson says:

A new hurricane has blown in The Arsenal and it called Arteta, players have shown over the years that the have become too comfortable at the club. Any player who believes they have made it at this club I would ask to see the medals, if this sends shock waves just through to the other academy players to say that AMN did the business at the end of the season but the boss still let him go how good do I need to be to stay here.

  11. rico says:

Billy, throw Edu in there too I reckon.

‘We’ blame the board when things go wrong, a bit of a pat on the back needs to go to those who backed Arteta to begin with and those who appear to be backing him now. Whoever liked Raul out of the club deserves a bit of praise too imo.

  12. Aussie Geoff says:

Hi Rico and all it’s a shame we have to let some of our younger and older players go but if Arteta is not going to play them regularly then I would cash in now before it gets to late

  13. rico says:

And as Cicero said the other day Andrew, he’s brought stability to the club. He might not be investing hundreds of millions of his own money on players but expecting him to in the first place was foolhardy imo.

Arsenal are and always have been a club who spends only what it makes. Kroenke isn’t perfect, but I’d rather him than a lot in the PL.

  14. Sue says:

It says it’ll be a mixture of first team/academy players, Rico…and if we’re lucky Gunnersaurus 😂😂
    Nice read, btw 😉

  15. allezkev says:

Sorry to read about your hearing Andrew, tbh I didn’t know you had issues with it and if I’ve missed you mentioning it before then I apologise, anyway I wish you well and hope that it all settles down.

  16. allezkev says:

It’s supposed to be on You Tube as well Sue…

I suspect that Liverpool will field a much stronger team than Arsenal this weekend.

  17. Morgam says:

Well done, Rico. I suppose AMN cant be expected to stay happy as a utility player. He wants to be a starter. I can’t blame him. Hes been patient. He sees other academy youngsters getting more starts. Peehaps he doesn’t feel propeely valued by the club. Just a thought.

  18. Cicero says:

If I had returned from a holiday in Austria I would have had go into quarantine for two weeks. Shouldn’t the same apply to the Bin-dippers?

  19. rico says:

Josh possibly does Andrew, at least a little bit. Lol

Thanks Ue, perhaps Merts and Arteta will get their boots out of retirement..

  20. rico says:

They had a positive test or two in their camp Cicero, so yes, they should.

Thanks Morgam. I did read it’s his choice to move on.

  21. andrewh1313 says:

Thanks Kev, yeah it was sudden, no illness, just overnight total loss of hearing in one ear. Scary when it happened, but as I said, there’s worse happening out there.

Have we flaming signed him yet!

  22. Rick says:

    Afternoon Rico and the House.

Rico in a recent post the headline was ” The old and the wise”

At the moment I cannot get my head around what is going on at our club,
and I think in my case it should read “The old and the senile”

It looks like (to me) that they are getting rid of our all home grown
    right backs and young C/forwards.
I mean Swanson Tutu on loan AMN and Bellerin sold.
C/F John Jules loan Balogan and Greenwood sold
Now if we are to replace them it will have to be with homegrown players to keep thesqude setup right.
This leaves me thinking it is going to cost us a lot more to replce AMN then what we get for him.
But do we have a replacement at the club already
    Who will play r/b tonght
Danny Ballared,Harry Clark or could it Ben Sheaf.
I gather Auba is in the squad which leaves me thinking how many more of the
    first team will play
    Rant over

  23. Sue says:

Aubameyang, Leno, Saliba, Nelson, Maitland-Niles, Willock, Cedric, Nketiah, Smith-Rowe, Saka, Xhaka, Tierney and Elneny all in the squad for tonight’s game against MK DONS

  24. Sue says:

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗫𝗜: Leno, Cedric, Saliba, Holding, Tierney, Elneny, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles, Saka, Nketiah, Aubameyang

𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵: Macey, Ballard, McGuinness, Bola, Azeez, Cottrell, Olayinka, Oyegoke, Willock, Lewis, Nelson, Smith Rowe, John Jules

  25. allezkev says:

Maitland Niles starting? Saliba starting? Elneny starting?

I know it’s MK Dons but a back four?

Azeez, I hope he gets on and Ballard and Olayinka…

  26. rico says:

    QUARANTINE RULES FOR GABRIEL

Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth told The Transfer Show:

“Gabriel is in London, we are told. We know that he’ll have to quarantine for 14 days so with that in mind, there is a chance he might have already had his medical in France as he would have to wait two weeks if he was to come and have his medical here.

“It means he would not be able to play in this Saturday’s Community Shield against Liverpool but would be available for the Premier League season opener against Fulham, depending on his fitness and how familiar he is with his Arsenal team-mates by then.

“It looks like a case of when and not if as far as Gabriel and Arsenal are concerned.”

  27. Le Coq Monster says:

No idea who has come on for Arsenal as there is no names up on screen!…………………..looks like the team out now is most u23`s…………and younger!

  28. frednerk says:

    Evening Rico and All
I know we won the FA Cup but
we came half way down the league
with this lot.I’m sure Micky and the
staff know whos who young and old
    no way of controling players
who want to go we have 30 odd players
    who think should be1st teamers,training
ground games between players are for
checking if certain players can make the
level we want,I remember many times
I picked the team friday night come to
the warm up I could see a player whos
    head was somewhere else.
    Professional coaching these days and
sports science adds to decisions most
    fans find baffling.
Micky managed to get a grip of the
players and system I’d be amazed if
anyone is telling him what to do
    regarding young or old players.
    I bit late I know..Sorry.

  29. Cicero says:

If tonight’s game had been refereed by a Premiership official Elneny would have been booked in the first fifteen minutes and red carded before half time. If that was him trying to impress Arteta I think he failed.

The defence looked better organised than any since Adams and Co retired.

  30. allezkev says:

Spot on Cicero, some of his fouls were really dumb, I gave up counting after 7…

I know he is trying to impress as you say but that’s not the way to go about it.
He actually did ok in general play but the fouls spoiled it.

  31. potter says:

He has been playing in a league where such play is commonplace . I am not especially defending him but he needs time to settle back.
