Club confirm Pato in January is possible! Would you like us to offer £60 million for one striker?

Morning all.

Instead of feeling disappointed after our two defeats recently, it’s nice to have that feeling of satisfaction and elation after such a comprehensive victory, so has the dust settled on that feeling?

You bet it hasn’t, not with me that’s for sure, I just love beating Liverpool, in fact the feeling is very close to how I feel after beating Spurs. Not quite, but very nearly!

Another club is Manchester United and we need to do what we did to Liverpool, to them. Our chances of stopping Suarez and Sturridge from scoring were written off before our game on Saturday but we silenced our critics. No doubt the same will happen on Sunday when we face van Persie and Rooney – ‘Arsenal have no chance of stopping those two’ will be heard and read everywhere but we have the belief and the ability to silence those critics once more…

Before then of course, we head off to Germany to face Dortmund in what is a must win game if we are going to get that top spot in our group. Of course it’s a tough task but we are good away from home this season and win in Germany is not impossible – last season’s victory against Bayern is a good reminder.

Jack Wilshere is a doubt for that game, as is Mathieu Flamini.

I read an article in the Daily Mirror yesterday written by Andy Dunn who believes Arsenal should go back to Liverpool in January and make a £60 million offer Suarez.

It’s hard to believe that the next transfer window opens in just eight weeks time when it seems like the summer one has only just closed.

But would you folks like to see such an offer be considered, made?

Suarez is a great player, there is no doubting that. Well, there was on Saturday but would it be the right thing to do, spending that kind of money on just one player, a player who could at any time do something quite rash and be out of the game for a few weeks? Just imagine if he bit someone again, the PL would seriously throw the book at him and he wouldn’t play for quite a few months.

Is Suarez worth £60 million?

Is he worth taking a chance for that kind of money?

It seems that the Liverpool striker isn’t dead set on leaving the Premier League either, despite the Madrid rumours:

The Premier League is the best league there is. The stadiums, the atmosphere and the fans make football here so entertaining.

If Ozil was a sign of things to come, then maybe Arsene Wenger would consider making such an offer, it’s certainly an amount which Liverpool would truly struggle to turn down as they could buy two very good players for that kind of money.

Then again, so could we…..

Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato could be one of those players after Corinthians director Roberto de Andrade wouldn’t rule out selling the player in the January transfer window.

If those two clubs (Arsenal and Tottenham) are interested in Pato, we don’t rule out selling him in the winter transfer market.”

Speaking earlier this week, Pato said:

Tottenham had called Corinthians to ask for my transfer. I sat at the table with the club and my agent and I decided I wanted to stay.

So he didn’t want to go to the neighbours, can’t blame him for that but maybe he’d move to the better side of North London?

Anyway, he is just one possibility, there are no doubts other options for Arsene Wenger to explore but what would you rather?

£60 million for Suarez, or use that same amount on 2/3 players?

That’s it for today, have a good one….

Morning, great post Rico. Share your feeling this Monday.

I do worry that we will pick up more injuries before ManU. Seems to be the one thing that could stop us in our tracks. Not even going to dare mention who to! Although others such as Ramsay, Ozil, Arteta would also be dreadful.

I don’t think AW will go for many players and risk disrupting our setup, so one big one would be my choice. Even a medium one as long as we get cover for G. Someone as good so we could alternate. Benteke still my choice.

  2. rico says:

    Thanks Ah..

Play like that against Dortmund and we have a chance..

Scott – I am torn re Suarez, part of me thinks he’d be worth every penny but the other makes me think that 2 top signings would suit our needs more. I bet Pato would be less than £20 million, or Adams fav, Costa – £30 million maybe…

Then we are still left with money to sign another player to give us more strength/depth in the second half of the season..

  3. Adam says:

    Morning Rico.
Whenever Suarez gets the ball in the opponents half he is dangerous. When Bendtner gets the ball in the same area it’s time to put the kettle on. Pato never really made it in Italy though he seemed to be there for years. Very decent player though.
Diego Costa for £35 million every time. He is a bastard but less greedy than Suarez though both would give our attack much wider options and this would surely reflect through midfield too.

  4. Scott from Oz says:

Sturridge acted like a goose the other day, but he had a right to be pissed when Suarez took the shot.
Both greedy bastards, and the more they play together, the better 🙂
We seem to have one very, very happy squad right now.
Bringing Suarez in could hurt that.

  5. rico says:

I’m sure Wenger and Bould wouldn’t allow that Scott..

If I was a cynic, I’d say Suarez didn’t want to score on Saturday and he didn’t want anyone else too either…

  6. BrainwashedKev says:

    Morning All

Did I hear you say that your putting the kettle on Adam?
    I’m on my way… 😉

Morning Rico, great post, I sense a good debate today…

  7. TT says:

    Morning all. Great post Rico.

Have to disagree with you there Scott. There is dire need for a striker like Suarez. A player that can win games on his own is worth a lot of money, but I would not pay 60 million for him due to his past. Cant have him sitting half the season out because he is banned for trying to eat the opposition.

Lewendosky would be my choice right now and I don’t think the transfer to BM is as a done deal as many think. Besides I think BD would much rather sell to us than see him go for nothing to the main competitor next summer.

  8. rico says:

But he’s still only 24 years old Adam and his recent performances have seen him get back in the Brazil side..

He averaged just under a goal every other game for Inter but surely with the chances we create, he’d be much better..

I can see this one having legs…

  9. Scott from Oz says:

TT, what are you disagreeing with?
I never said don’t get a striker LIKE Suarez, just NOT Suarez.

  10. TT says:

Scott thats where the problem is. There are no strikers out there like Suarez, Lewendosky is different and so is Costa. Both very good but IMHO not as good as the cannibal.

I would love to have him, but not for 60 million, not with that baggage.

  11. bradster says:

    Morning all,

I don’t think we need to spend 60m to get Saurez.
Pluses for Suarez is his versatility to be an inside forward or a striker.
He has premiership experience so no need to adapt and has the ability to be a game changer.

I see Dortmund are trying to give Reus a new contract to counter him 34m buyout clause.

  12. Scott from Oz says:

Torres would do me, especially if Jose chases Lewandowski.
Will Lewandowski want to be another in a long list though?

  13. TT says:

Here there and everywhere Rico 🙂 Been very busy with work but starting to calm down a bit now.

Regarding the BD game I am quietly optimistic as we look to play better away in Europe recently.

  14. BrainwashedKev says:

Suarez? Lewandowski? Pato? Costa? A N Other?
    There is a growing list…

    Suarez is gone I think?
Liverpool don’t want to sell to us…
£60m is too much, although I would have gone to £50m in the Summer.
Now, I think we should look elsewhere.

I like the sound of Costa, and he makes great coffee. 😉
Atletico have a fantastic track record in producing quality strikers.
Defo worth a punt at £30/35m…

Lewandowski would be my favourite, not least from the financial point of the fee to Dortmund… Maybe we should offer Dortmund £40m for Lewandowski and Reus???

Pato didn’t make the grade at Milan, nor did Vieira!
Not sure what Corinthians would actually want?
But Wenger has been watching him for a few years now, and Arsene never forgets any player who catches his eye…

  15. rico says:

I wouldn’t like us to spend £60 million on Suarez either Bradster, as some have already said, not with the baggage he carries.

    Lewandowski for me…

Scott – I see Jose wanting Torres and Lew and he’d get rid of Ba and Eto…

  16. rico says:

You old gad about TT 😉

Take out or drink in Kev?

They were ready to deal with Spurs for £12.5 million I read…

    That’s AW’s price tag…

  17. botafoguense says:

Hi all, I think this may be my first post here and its motivated by this interesting striker discussion. First of all, as a keen follower of the Brazilian league i’d say Pato is worth 10mil at most, and i wouldn’t like to see him at Arsenal. He’s been crap for ages, and a few recent goals for Corinthians won’t change my mind on that.

60 for Suarez for me is too much, as the write up says, he’s just too volatile and that’s an enormous investment.

If Dortmund really are willing to sell, Lewandowski is by far the best choice for me. So much class in that playerand more worthy of whatever we’d pay for Suarez. I also watch Atletico play often and, though he may be an asshole, Costa is a going from strength to strength and a great team player. Plus he has that grit that we’re all loving so much in Flamini right now! Dunno what his contract situation is like but Atletico would need a hefty payment to let him go surely.

  18. Tim says:

hi everyone, we need a striker who haven’t played in europe, suarez fits the bill but not for 60 million,!maybe benteke for 25million then add a center back and a younger fullback..pato is good but he is injury phrone..BVB Here we come then Devils get ready.

  19. bradster says:

If we could, I’d take Lukaku. There’s a strong and fast finisher.
To me Maurinho was silly to loan him out when he needs a Drogba to fit his style of play. I mean he tells Torres to get angry to be that style of player.

  20. rico says:

I’m not sure that is a must Tim because it AW rotates, Giroud can do Europe but, it might put players off from moving to us if they are cup tied in Europe if their current club are still in the competition..

  21. rico says:

Yep, another good one to throw into the mix bradster..

There are players out there that’s for sure, Arsenal just need to find the right one and pay the right money…

  22. W.A.T.H says:

    Morning All,

I did tell you lot we’d beat the dippers but Grandad Kev told me I was miserable…..!

We’re gonna beat the mancs as well just so you all know….!

A striker and cover for Flamini for me and we can def win the league…!

What striker…. now thats the multi million $$$$ question…! I would say no to 60mil for Suarez how ever much I’d love him in an Arsenal shirt…! That kind of money is madness.

Lewandoski for me or that AlShawarreeeeeeeeeeeeeeey from Milan… lightning quick and young enough that he’s gonna get lots n lots better. We lack that lightning pace up front to really hurt teams, Theo n Ox would of had a field day on Sat…!

  23. BrainwashedKev says:

    Rico, what a shock…….

    Rachel was voted off…. OMG… 😛

I’m sticking with the Hairy Biker.
    Go on my son…

Morning Wath… Did you hear about Rachel??? 😉

  24. tsgh says:

    Morning all,
Costa would have been a decent buy last summer as would Negredo but Mr Wenger and his scoungers deliberated and lurked around for eternity…

Costa’s buyout clause went over 35M Euros last summer after the dippers failed with a bid. If he gets an EU passport his fee will sky rocket too imo…

Another Suarez type player is Maher. He is a player we should be going for imo… a young and dynamic forward with all the attributes to be as good as VP under the stewardship of AW.

I heard AW was looking at him last summer but he wanted to stay one more season in the Eredivisie.

Muriel is another winger/striker AW can enhance. Poldi will flourish with TR07 and Ozil now fit valuable members of the team.

If all fails AW should just give players like Akpom a chance has Klopp has given Hoffman a chance this season.

  25. rico says:

    Morning Wath.

    Elsharrrraaaawwwway would be perfect too….

I know Kev, couldn’t believe it, at least the boys went off on the X-factor 😉

  26. rico says:

Wath, Mark is my favourite 🙂

Both could be back for OT I think brad… Mind you, either could well be on the bus to Dortmund, I wouldn’t be at all surprised…

  27. Bergkampforlife says:

Hi All, need to add my bit. I believe we will go far in the CL this year, so we need a striker which can still qualify to play. That leaves us with Suarez, Benteke or Michu. From this three i would go for Michu any day. He will fit perfectly into our way of play and with our talented midfield assisting, will score plenty of goals. COYG’s

  28. Bergkampforlife says:

Yes Rico, bad day @ the office, but as i say, it is all about the service. If you look @ the shifts Michu has been putting in, and the amount of work he does in a game is really impressive.

  29. ArsenalDK says:

Personally I think that Michu was a one season wonder. What’s happened to Benteke too?

They’re not scoring the goals they used to.. By bying one of them this summer, would we have jumped the gun?

Although they are much better than Bendtner and Park..

  30. rico says:

Very bad day at the office Bfl..

Good question Adk, but I don’t think either are getting the best service from players around them and Benteke has been injured for a while hasn’t he?

You are probably better than Bendtner and Park 😉

  31. ArsenalDK says:

    ha ha ha 😀

Rico, I AM! Believe it or not, my little brother used to play with Bendtner when they were youth players in KB, a feederclub to FC Copenhagen. Everyone was impressed with Bedtner, and hailed him as the second coming.. But we know how that story went 😉
    Which is a shame really…

Pato would do the job for me, personally. He’s very fast, a dribbler and not afraid to shoot. Although he has only scored 8 goals in 22 games for Corinthians

  32. Keith says:

Arsenal will not spend big money on a striker in january, you are all wide off the mark with some of the strikers you mention…especially not Suarez, pato is a more realistic prospect! Wenger himself said he will not be spending big in january.

  33. rico says:

Nice one Adk – wish Arsenal had signed your brother…

El Shaarawy, Lew or Costa seem to be fans favs…

Bradster, £30 for either isn’t it? Way over the top…

Keith, since when was AW one to believed when he talks about spending and transfers?

You just don’t know what the club have planned, none of us do…

  34. ArsenalDK says:

Yeah me too rico… Unfortunately, he didn’t have the talent to be a top player, but an extraordinary work rate.. Just wish that Bendtner had that too!

Keith, you never know with Wenger… Who would have known that we would have an Özil on our hands this summer?

  35. snaparse says:

hi everyone,I don’t know if any one has mentioned his name but Luis Muriel is one I really like …………like I always say we don’t really need someone to relegate giroud permanently to the bench I will much rather someone who can play with him and if we are not getting Suarez(who I rate highly) we should be goin for Muriel Imho ……….nice read rico

  36. bradster says:

Depends what wenger is looking for. If Giroud keeps up his good form then we don’t need a replacement striker like we did in the last 2 transfer windows.
Then Wenger can buy a versatile winger/forward who can play up front if needed.

  37. rico says:

Great shame Adk, and when you see how lazy NB has been I bet it makes you, and your brother quite cheesed off..

Thanks snaparse, don’t know anything about Muriel..

Reus Bradster, or Draxler… Still think we’d need a striker though, Giroud is already starting to look exhausted… That’s a worry.

  38. BrainwashedKev says:

Sorry Rico, I’m more a Strictly man than an X Factor fan…

If you want to chat X Factor, then Adam is a big follower…

Lee is more into The Kardashians, whilst Rocky swears by Towie…

No Hansen again on MotD last night, the wanker is in hiding…

  39. Bergkampforlife says:

with all the names thrown around, it will be just like AW to buy a GEM that nobody even mentioned in this article, and turns him into a star. In AW we trust. Good read rico.

  40. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to the Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

I like Suarez as a player, but I wouldn’t pay £60 million for him. For that sort of money we could get a good striker and cover/future replacement for Arteta &/or Flamini.

Like Bradster, I’d be very interested in Lukaku. It was shear stupidity on Maureen Yo’s part to spike our proposed bid for Demba Ba and put Lukaku out on loan. He may now be kicking himself for his hubris.

  41. Canadian Gooner says:

Kev – Hansen in hiding is no great loss, in fact it’s a public service. May he never find his way back to a computer, microphone or broadcast studio.

  42. Canadian Gooner says:

I see some journos are speculating that Dortmund might try to sell Lewandowski in January for a greatly reduced fee rather than see him leave for free at the end of the season. If true, Arsene/Arsenal should make a move for him. Cup tied for the Champions League, but would put the icicng on the cake for us in the Premier League.

  43. Wavy says:

Surely AW has already found his new striker! He has plucked this chap Sani-a-go-go from the obscurity of the disco dance floor. He liked his moves so much he thought ah, a striker in the making, he saw him doing a Michael Jackson impression and was thrilled by what he saw! Signed him up, threw him in too early and Sani is injured he has yet to trouble the judges! But he remains a super mover!
Buy during the January sales? I doubt it! They only sell tat at Christmas time!

  44. BrainwashedKev says:

CG, Hansen, like Shearer, Lineker and Lawrenson are lazy, complacent and so obviously biased that it is painful to watch them pretending to be even-handed.

    MotD is an awful programme.
    Too much vacuous chat.
Too much Top of the Pops pyrotechnics before each game.
Just show us more of the highlights you stupid BBC idiots..

  45. Canadian Gooner says:

Wavy – Arsenal have bought some tat in the after Christmas sales, but they have also picked up some valuable players. Arsene isn’t restricted to the bargain basement buys, as in the past.

  46. Canadian Gooner says:

Hansen “pretending to be even-handed”? He, like the others you named, are enamoured by the sounds of their own voices and put little, if any, thought into their biased and inane ramblings.

It seems the broadcast studio has replaced the landlordship of a public house as the pasture of choice for wornout footballers.

  47. Tim says:

I agree rico,if we top up our group then lets get lewadowski because if they rotate with giroud then we wil be good..Garry neville referred us as early season pretenders, just as we answered allan hansen’s call we will answer his.

  48. NashuaGunners says:

    Good Afternoon All.
Rico, ManU is up my list and if we could return the favor of the 8-2 defeat and the ref sending off one or two of there players, it would be my Xmas gift.

Someone here in HH once said, I’m quoting, “Two vultures sitting on a tree and one says “I’m tired of waiting. I’m going down there to kill something.”

Well, my heart tells me AW is not going to miss this second chance come this window, he is going to get us another proving striker whether in the EPL or Europe. He sure knows how it feels when a world class player walk through the door. All the fans are behind him and the team now, 100%.

    Suarez yes, 60 Mils no.

  49. Micko says:

‘Two vultures sitting on a tree’
That’s a new one on me Nash.

Scott, all the best strikers are greedy, it’s part of their nature.

Makes a nice change going into the Man U game top of the league with the chance of extending our lead, a bit like the good ole double days of the past.

  50. rico says:

Keith, I said when it comes to transfers and signing players. Many times he has said he would sign/loan a player but then didn’t. The Jan we had no full backs was the most recent….

  51. rico says:

You are exaggerating my comment Keith, my point is, don’t believe AW when he talks transfers, after all, he’s hardly likely to tell the world what he plans are is he?

  52. BrainwashedKev says:

What Rico is saying Keith, is that Wenger is economical with the truth when discussing transfers and transfer policy…

    And why wouldn’t he be???!!!

Why tell your opponents or selling clubs, what your intentions are…
    It’s all smoke and mirrors…

  53. NashuaGunners says:

Keith, whenever AW or Arsenal’ scouts are looking or interested in a player to buy most of the other big name clubs become interested and out bid us (Arsenal) and we loss out. Hazard and Mata are typical example. In that case AW has to be clandestine in how he speaks and what he tells the media’s. If he is interested in a player, why would he tell the money bag-clubs or the world???

  54. rico says:

    Exactly Ng.

I think Keith just thought I was calling our manager a liar, period..

As if I’d do that eh…..

  55. rico says:

It is here too Adam, log fire is roaring, the woofa is fast asleep after a long walk earlier…. And Corrie is on in the background….

  56. roundleather says:

Lorente on loan, Chicharito and Richards =<60mil. I would rather have three than one volatile guy. The trio wouldnt mind staying off CL for the moment, assured EPL game time.

  57. BrainwashedKev says:

Arsenal’s fluid midfield revolves around Giroud, who is the apex of the team…

He is vital to the way we play, so maybe we need to get in somebody who can replicate his role in case he is injured or being rested.

Bendtner would, on the face of it, have all the assets to do the job.
But he just isn’t up to it.

    Sanogo maybe has the potential?
    But he’s never fit, so I don’t know…

Llorente still seems the most likely ‘Giroud type’ available.
Lewandowski could do the job, but Chelsea/Mourinho may get him to ensure we don’t get him…
Chelsea may sell Demba Ba in January, but I bet Mourinho will insist that he cannot join Arsenal. Remember how he interfered with Wenger’s attempt to sign Sahin…

    Don’t know anything about Costa…

Pato could be pure speculation driven by his agent?

  58. Canadian Gooner says:

Micko – You may be right, but only last season there were a lot of Arsenal fans saying Ramsey was shite. So, I’m willing to wait and give Sanogo a chance.

  59. HenryB says:

A very good morning to you all. 🙂

What’s up? Big day tomorrow — how’s it going to go?

Another great Post from Rico must be due soon. 🙂
