Classy Arsenal tame the pass masters..

Morning all.

Pinch, punch… No, it’s not the first day of a new month. It’s the end of a week in which Arsenal have beaten the newly appointed League Champions and the runners up.

Neither victory came with the kind of football one would associate with Arsenal. Not post George Graham anyway. Both were disciplined, determined, concentrated and committed. Both had everything from an early scare, strong challenges, goal mouth scrabbles, missed opportunities to score and moments of brilliance.

Not a single booking yesterday, not a refereeing decision to hog the headlines, VAR quieter than a church mouse. Just once it was called into action I believe and that was for a penalty claim made by Sterling. It took just seconds to show Mustafi had won the ball fair and square.

The opening fifteen minutes or so were a bit shaky but after the early lapse in concentration, we should have gone 1-0 up. I’d have put money on Aubameyang scoring after Luiz played an inch perfect ball through to him but as nerves might have affected the defence, perhaps our number 14 had his own flutterings too. Power didn’t beat Ederson.

It wasn’t long before Aubameyang was presented with another opportunity to score. This one though was difficult, very difficult. The cross from Pepe was perfect, the angle for Aubameyang, tight but having missed an easy chance, how typical of him to connect with the ball so well. With the outside of his boot, in it went off the back post. A really good goal after a flurry of passes between the Arsenal players. Mustafi nearly made it 2-0 with a good header from a Ceballos corner which Ederson tipped over the bar and then Martinez made a really crucial and strong one handed save from a low Mahrez shot.

Our second came courtesy of Aubameyang again. A different kind of goal but most welcome that’s for sure. Ederson won’t be happy to have been beaten through his legs. The finish was typical Aubameyang really, reminiscent of another number 14 once at the club. Two actually as Walcott scored one or two similar during his time. Pepe to Tierney, Tierney to Aubameyang, a few paces with the ball and Bob’s your uncle. 2-0.

We all knew that Man City would have the majority of possession because it’s what they do to most teams. It’s how Pep plays with a team full of players who can pass all day and night. They keep the ball and build up their passage of play, waiting for the right moment to either inject pace to beat a defence, or to play a defence splitting pass through to one of the front men. Arsenal were onto them.

Mikel Arteta didn’t need to do much homework on yesterday’s opposition because he was part of their training camp just a few months ago. For him it would be easy to nullify their strengths, in his head at least. Getting that plan through to his players was the hard part, but even harder was making them do it. He was in their ears all game. In French, English, Spanish, depending on who he was barking instructions at, he was at it in a big way.

The players responded. Again and again.

“I am sorry for the fans because we could’ve enjoyed a beautiful moment today with them. They are not here but I just want to tell them that we are thinking about them.” Mikel Arteta.

Yes City had chances but which teams don’t during a game of football? We had chances too don’t forget. We created openings too but sometimes the cross was intercepted, or the pass went astray, just as it did for City. The difference between the two sides barring the possession stats is that we defended better than City and when the opportunities came, we took two of them. Martinez save from Mahrez was superb.

It feels wrong to single out players for praise after such a great team performance but I’m going to because when they get it wrong, they are criticised. Mustafi, Xhaka, Pepe, Luiz, Bellerin and AMN.

Funny guy.

A great few days for the club we all love, for the players and of course, for Mikel Arteta and his coaches. The hard work everyone is putting in is beginning to pay off. It is just the beginning though and there’s a long way to go but finally, there’s hope that the right path has been found and Arsenal are walking down it.

There’ll be ups and there’ll be downs but at least we’re beginning to see changes. Flexibility towards different opponents, fringe players pushing their way forwards, bad apples being dumped. Mikel Arteta clearly has a plan. He knows what needs to be done and how he’ll go about it.

Right now he’s probably wondering who’ll be fit for the Villa game on Tuesday….

See you in the comments guys.

Good morning Rico, damp here today but who cares.

I woke up this morning and nipped down stairs to grab the Sunday Telegraph scanned it for the match report, nothing, nada, zilch was it all a dream? The only mention of the game was a tiny bit at the bottom of an inside page, “F A Cup Semi-Final. Arsenal v Manchester City. Late kick-off”. What a farce, a letter to the Sports Editor will shortly be winging it’s electronic way to let him know of my dissatisfaction. 😕

A much better effort on your part Rico, thank you.

As to the actual match, terrific! 100% effort from the whole team. It couldn’t be bettered. Bloody marvellous! I’m over the moon. 😉

  2. Sue says:

    Great post, Rico 👍
I’m absolutely flabbergasted at not having to moan once at Jon Moss!! It’s unheard of….
I hope Mustafi is ok, as it didn’t look too good when he went off… and I hope David Luiz hasn’t suffered whiplash, after all those headed clearances 😆
There’s only one thing I can wear today and it’s red and white!! Be lush being reaquainted with an Arsenal shirt again!!
And first thing Monday morning, I shall renew my membership 🙂
Who would you rather face in the final, Rico? The chavs, for me, would be more satisfying (for Baku)….

  3. rico says:

Thanks Sue. Morning to you and all.

Chelsea I hope. Utd seem to be on a bit of run. Either will be a really tough game though.

Mustafi will be fine I’m sure, he’s seldom injured for long.

  4. rico says:

Morning Cicero, ‘a much better effort’?

My ‘effort’ is far great than The Telegraph 365 days a year I’ll have you know. Even on the days there is no post… lol

  5. Sue says:

So nice to see on Twitter (& just about everywhere else!) everyone gushing over Tierney! And rightly so!
That was one hell of a team performance, everyone played their part… if that’s how it’ll be from now on, we’re in for a treat 😁

  6. andrewh1313 says:

Uplifting report rico, what a good morning all. After the spurs result, my head dropped for the first time this season. What a difference a week makes. What a goalie we have, he had always deputised well, but I don’t think even Arteta could have imagined him being this cool, calm and commanding. Luiz showed all defenders how to get distance on a header, bend your neck back as Sue said. Whether we win the final or not, this will be a game of the season I remember for a long time. Even the pundits are greatly praising us, shame Guadiola seemed sour and couldn’t.

  7. ScottfromOz says:

    Hello my English mates!
I’ve had a decent afternoon on the ales so I apologise in advance for my comments, but Mikel Arteta is already showing he’s the manager I always said he’d be.
We, as a club, have a long way to go but the improvement in a mere 6 months or so is immense.
It’s been awhile since we have a squad ready to give their all for the manager.
We now have a manager that everyone wants to play for.
Even Pep keeps talking him up.
She wore, she wore, she wore a yellow ribbon……

  8. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. I was proud of the team. Last night was when it all came together. Two halves of high concentration, effort and desire. All the boys were excellent but it must feel great for Luiz who has had a roller coaster ride at Arsenal. I really liked his interview after the game and can see what an asset he is for the team and not just on the pitch.
Huge credit to Mikel who decided he wouldn’t let MC play through us and restricted them to high balls into the box which Luiz and Co mopped up with relish.
Stan must see what he has on his hands and where the club could be heading. He really has to back him because Arteta gets players to dig deep to fulfil their potential and that’s when good things happen.
Really happy for the team, the club and the fans.

  9. Gazza says:

    Great morning post Rico.

I lost my voice last night shouting at the tv like I was our manager lol.

10 out of 10 for the whole team & especially Arteta ? Outstanding performance

  10. rico says:

I had my doubts about Tierney Sue. His injuries mainly but boy, I was wrong. He’s a real player and one who clearly understands what hard work means. More like him I say.

  11. frednerk says:

    Morning Rico and All
Was goner type in a few tributes to a
great result but Adam and you (Rico)
have summed it better than I can,so
will add just this about this player
The PEA at times looks two-bob(not by me)
a lot has been said he picks his games
to put in a shift, the first goal was amazing
the second was world class running at top
speed he looked up to fool the keeper to
    spread,then the nut-meg Wow.
I hope the chavs beat the mancs and
we can give them the payback from
    that game in Timbucktwo.

  12. rico says:

I can understand why Andrew but I’m trying to remember how long change takes, improvement takes too and had it not been ‘them’, it wouldn’t have felt like such a setback I’m sure. We’re far from being dependable Arsenal but it seems we’re heading in the right direction.

    Morning Adam.

    Welcome Gaza, thanks.

  13. ScottfromOz says:

    Hahahaha Sue,
    I’ve raised 10-12.
    Lost count 🙂
Adam, as I said earlier, I love the fact that you local and long term supporters are excited about what’s happening.
    It’s been too long!!!
It’s something you all need and I truly believe Mikel brings it.
We have players who’ve been going through the motions suddenly throwing their bodies on the line for the cause.
Young guys with some promise suddenly look like top class players.
Footballers who looked crap or just past it suddenly are different players.
Faaaark, it’s the Arsenal we’ve all been crying out for.
The buzz is alive around the world!!!

  14. ScottfromOz says:

Oh and let me add this.
Aubameyang, ffs, as much as I say his conversion rate is lacking, and I did question his ambition to stay at the club, what he did last night was ridiculous!!
Absolute world quality and we all know that, but if he wants to stay, I mean REALLY wants to stay, we must keep him!!

  15. Sue says:

Spot on, Rico… he puts his head down and works really hard… and I love how humble he is (tesco carrier bag for a start!) He’s giving his match-worn shirt to a cancer patient…. and reading what he said about it being an honour playing with Auba and that we’re building something big… you can’t help but love him! What a sweetheart! 10 more of him and we’ll be laughing 😀

  16. ScottfromOz says:

    Quantity over quality Sue hahahaha
I genuinely can’t remember the last time I was so happy being a Gooner.
We all know the circumstances, and yet we are 100% behind the lads.

  17. Sohara says:

Sue I agree with you that I want Chelsea in the Final, but I want them because we definitely do not want to give Man U the chance of getting as many FA cups as we have

  18. Adam says:

Rico. Me too. I think we could do with 2 to 3 quality players and the end of the ridiculous Ozil saga plus sending that twat Guendouzi off to moan about how good to he is to a new audience as the Arsenal family aren’t listening any more. Add Saliba and you never know.

  19. rico says:

Exactly Sue. I love players like him and agree, guys like him is what this squad needs. Talented, but grafters.

Talking of which, what a player AMN could be if he carries on as he’s doing. I really hope we don’t sell him.

  20. rico says:

The Ozil and Guendouzi saga certainly needs resolving Adam and there’s only one way. Out of the club.

I really like the fact that Mikel has his style and breach it at their peril. Lacazette sucked it up and put his head down, Ceballos and AMN too. The days of ‘face fits’ is well and truly over.

  21. Sue says:

Nice one, Sohara 👍 Yes, the cup is ours!! We shall all be glued to our TVs come 6pm!!! And hope before that, Leicester do us a favour!!

  22. ScottfromOz says:

Rico, AMN has always had the talent.
Seems his attitude has improves since Arteta arrived, and he’s one of many.
Mikel is the common denominator in many players improvement.
Just finished Watching the replay and that was a bloody good performance!!!!!

  23. ScottfromOz says:

Oh and watching Mikel absolutely bear hug Maitland-Niles, there is no way in the world he wants to sell the guy!!!!!!!

  24. Cicero says:

A good article on Xhaka in The Grauniad this morning. What a difference between Xhaka leaving the pitch against Crystal Palace in October and the joy on his face as he was greeted by Arteta and the end of yesterday’s game.

You must admit, Scott, Ramsey never had the type of all round influence on a game as Xhaka yesterday. 😉

  25. Wavy says:

What a game. What a result. What a turn up!
How good it is to get up on a Sunday morning with a smile on your face and your chest puffed up. Just like the good old days.
Despite the fact that the game was to a greater or lesser point was attritional and by Arsenals standards not too possessional, it mattered not a jot. The team ethic was there for all to see, the moments of magic, were typically Arsenal, well Auba’s finishing particularly. Every player gave absolutely everything. There’s an engagement, closeness that these players have forged, thanks to the commitment and courage of our new young manager. ( I wonder had long we’ll be able to keep him?)
I’ve read all the available reports. I’ve got a nice warm feeling inside. I’m ready to face the world whilst sitting on top of it! It’s been a long time since I’ve felt so satisfied. Long may it continue.

Thanks for the report Rico, a really good summary of all that occurred. Excellent.

  26. ScottfromOz says:

Hey, don’t tell me about how good our current players are.
    Mikel IS the difference 🙂
Cicero, Aaron was absolutely world class for quite a while there and you must admit that.
Xhaka was always underrated by Arsenal fans, imo, and now he has some support, is showing what he’s capable of.
It really is incredible what difference a manager can make.

  27. rico says:

Thanks Wavy. I’ve been reading them too and it’s good to finally see Arsenal getting much we’ll deserved credit instead of the opposition simply lacking on the day.

  28. rico says:

I thought that too Cicero but I think the latest on Partey is he’s staying in Spain.

I did smile at that Sue. I hope Arteta meant it.

  29. ScottfromOz says:

Rico, imo, there is no way AMN would be getting game time if he didn’t have a future at the club.

  30. Aussie Geoff says:

Hi Rico and All Thanks for the clip Rico I managed to watch a replay and we looked like a different team and for me Luiz was best on ground .
I liked the way after the match that Luiz gave advice to one of young players,
I did not like the way Arsenal fans turned on Xhaka which cost him the captaincy after all the whole club was a bloody mess but the sign of a champion is one who never given in and just keeps fighting untill all is well

  31. Aussie Geoff says:

I was AMN I would not turn back and take it easy after all how many clubs have said the coach or the player has the boards full backing only to find them self a few weeks later sacked or transferred.

  32. ScottfromOz says:

    Geoff, I agree.
Xhaka was treated disgrace full by a lot Arsenal fans, so I don’t condemn him for his reactions one bit.
Saying that, I’m glad he’s made amends with fans and is showing his worth.
Arteta has said City were looking at buying him.
Says plenty about the player, imo.

  33. Busayo Olawole says:

Sadly I couldn’t get to see the game. But I have to say that the revelation for the season for me has been Emi Martinez. He’s been utterly fantastic since the Leno injury. I won’t be surprised if he gets a call up to his national team pretty soon.

    COYG
    Busayo from Nigeria

  34. Paddy says:

Good morning Rico. Great team play yesterday. It’s difficult to single anyone out but permit me to mention AMN. Playing at an unusual left wingback position and the way he managed the space sometimes covering Tierney was excellent. It shows how much we need him to stay. He can play right and left sides of our defense as well as midfield.

We have 3 finals to end the season Villa and Watford on the EPL and the FA Cup final on 1 August. Winning on 1 August gives us our 14th FA Cup and a place in Europe. Winning the last 2 EPL games can also give us Europe slot if any of Toots, Wolves and Shelffield drop points. Let’s go for the kill guys.

  35. Le Coq Monster says:

Finally got my lap top and internet back since Thursday…………Did I miss anything ?…………not having my laptop( I dont have a fancy phone) made me realise that if it came to having to get rid of either my laptop or the wife! ………………………………… hahaha

So we are unofficially the best team in the world after last two games, not bad being the best with an average team!

I still say we were very fortunate against Bindippers, but from what I saw of yesterdays game and even though the stats were similar to the Bindipper game………….. we were the better team………great performance!.

If anyone thinks Kroenke will invest in the team from his own pocket……..welll I wont say what I think, all I will give you is the facts……………….Kroenkes total investment in team still stands at £0.

    Sue……………wear The Arse` mask in Tesco`s! 😆

  36. Le Coq Monster says:

If we win anything, Scott, it will be down our Mikel!……………………….who needs Magic Mike when you have Magic Mikel!………………………how me and you are not his honorary assistants is criminal !
    😆

  37. Aussie Geoff says:

Rico I don’t mind the straight swap of Guendozi for Philippe Coutinho he is around 29 years old and I believe he does have some premier experience but one thing that does worry me from what I have read is that he is currently on 240.000 pounds per week. the question would be can we afford him.

  38. Aussie Geoff says:

here is another one of my crazy ideas As for Ozil I wonder if Kroenke instead of refinancing our loan which does not do much for us would he of been better to make a deal with Ozil that if he scraps his current contract arsenal would hire him for 200.000 pounds per week for one year as an assistant coach for the under 23 saving us a fair bit over the year. or have another bottle of wine and go back to the drawing board

  39. allezkev says:

Only 10 to 12 Scott, are you cutting down or what? 😀

Afternoon one and all, great post Rico, some great comments, yes Sue I’m tempted to get my red currant shirt out but I’m saving that for cup final day…

  40. allezkev says:

Well said Busayo, I was talking to my cousin late last night and we’re both of a vintage to remember the late 1960’s and at the time a guy called Jim Furnell was the Arsenal goalkeeper, we’d signed him from Liverpool (I cant recall Arsenal ever signing anyone worth signing from them) and after a run of bad games Bertie Mee the then manager bought in the reserve goalkeeper Bob Wilson a guy who’d been at the club for a few years without ever threatening to take the No.1 jersey.

Well the rest is history Wilson went on to become an Arsenal goalkeeping legend being part of the team that won Arsenal it’s first european trophy and the original Double team.

Could Martinez usurp Leno in a similar fashion? He has a confidence about him and aura that he seems to spread to his team mates. Arteta has a big big decision to make over those two because whoever he picks will probably lead to the other leaving…

I really like Leno, he’s been excellent for us and a great signing but I’ve gotta admit that I’m in the Martinez camp.

  41. rico says:

Hi Paddy. I too thought AMN was excellent. Difficult with his final ball sometimes as he was crossing with his unnatural foot but apart from the one time Mahrez beat him, I don’t think he put a foot wrong. He looks as if he means business these days too.

  42. allezkev says:

My thoughts exactly Paddy, we messed up last season when it was in our hands so let’s give both Aston Villa and Watford a good old seeing to especially as goals scored could be vital with an energised and rested Nketiah who can really go for in those games, and if results do go our way then perhaps we can face the Final under no pressure.

  43. rico says:

Lc, if Mikel is the magician you keep on about, he won’t need Stan’s money. Lol

Has John Henry ever invested his own money into Liverpool? Mind you, buying all the shares didn’t come cheap for either owner.

  44. Le Coq Monster says:

Rico, I gave you chance with the VARdy headline, now because I like you, I`m giving you another chance to use the …Magic Mikel …headline hopefully sometime in the future……..or now!

I have total confidence that Magic Mikel will make us as competitive as we can possibly be without any money …………than any other manager out there and that includes Pep, simply because he knows Peps tactics, but he also knows everything about The Arsenal………………….given the same cheque book as Pep or any other rich clubs manager then we would be fully competitive wuth the best!……………………dont believe me ?…………………just ask Scott! 😆

  45. Cicero says:

I remember my dad’s comment on reading that we had signed a ‘ keeper, “Jim Funnel what sort of name is that for a goalie?? His eye site wasn’t the greatest but he did have dry sense of humour.

  46. rico says:

Arsenal have requested an extension to Dani Ceballos’ loan from Real Madrid, reports El Confidencial.

The Spaniard has been revitalised under Mikel Arteta and is happy to remain in north London next season, an outcome Real could entertain.

  47. rico says:

    Another from Sky Sports:

    GUNNERS TO TRIGGER JOELSON CLAUSE?

Arsenal are willing trigger Joelson Fernandes’ £41m release clause to sign the wonderkid from Sporting Lisbon, reports A Bola.

The 17-year-old – dubbed the next Cristiano Ronaldo – is being tracked by Barcelona and Juventus but the Gunners hope to steal a march and secure his services.

  48. Sue says:

Rico… thinking of heading to ‘arry land…. ooh that’s lush round there. Beautiful all year round beach for dogs… if we fancy a day out at the coast, we always head to Sandbanks!

How crap are Leicester?!! And Bournemouth on the brink….

  49. Le Coq Monster says:

There are countless people who could vouch for my imagination with humour, Rico, but I very much doubt you would print what I`m trully capable of!………………………..that is one department where I`m over flowing! 😆

  50. Le Coq Monster says:

Another thing which may have been over looked the first time around when Magic Mikel was after the job is sort of Wengeresque ………….. Arteta’s ability to communicate with the different nationality of the players.
He was heard barking orders to Nicolas Pepe in French, before flipping between English and Spanish seamlessly when speaking to Joe Willock and Dani Ceballos.

The Hair apparent( like that Rico?) speaks a staggering eight different languages and boasts skills in Spanish, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Catalan, Basque and Glaswegian which was the main reason KT was impressed with in joining Arsenal. 😆

  51. Sue says:

    I don’t like Weymouth either, Rico 😂
When the time comes, I’d love to retire to Tenerife!!

Le Coq.. I’ve only been to Cornwall twice.. the 2nd time was to Newquay… wasn’t overly keen, but a lot of people I know rave about Cornwall… I think what put me off was the journey down, took 6 hours!! Was so fed up 😆 So haven’t been since….

  52. Le Coq Monster says:

Newquay is a shithole, Sue!……………..everyone goes to Newquay, yet there are so many beautiful quiete spots that I know of which even most Cornish dont know of!…………………………………6 hours !!!………….was you stopping every 5 mins to check your partner hadn`t stole the wheel rims?………I get to the Ems in 4 hours and thats way past Oxfordshire!

  53. Sue says:

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Surprisingly not, Le Coq!! He kept slowing down to check everyone else’s out 😂😉
It was gridlocked everywhere – was horrendous!!

  54. Sue says:

Every season my head hurts thinking about who’s getting into Europe etc.. I came across this, so copied and pasted it:

If a team that wins the FA Cup finishes top four then the team in seventh gets the Europe League spot.

England gets just 3 Europa League spots, that is it, usually Carabao Cup winners, FA Cup winners and 5th, however, because Carabao cup winners City will finish in a champions league spot then the team 6th gets a Europa League spot. If a team wins the FA Cup and finishes top 4 then seventh gets a Europa League spot.

If Man Utd or Wolves finish outside top 4 and win europa league they go to champions league and so 8th is valid.

However, if Arsenal win FA Cup and neither English team wins Europa League then top 4 go to Champions League, 5th and 6th go to Europa League and FA Cup winners.

    Does that cover every scenario?!

  55. Sue says:

Well, Sohara, at least the mancs won’t equal our record! Now to avenge Baku and wipe that smirk off Giroud’s face!!

  56. Le Coq Monster says:

Any ideas how we can shorten that ?………………………….St. FAther Cupientius Day?

  57. Sue says:

Yes and they’re looking more and more jammy by the minute!! That first goal earlier 🙄

Santi has played his last game for Villarreal… ended 4-0, he assisted the first goal! Fingers crossed he’s coming home to be reunited with MA 🙂

  58. Sue says:

A super day of blogging, Rico! Thank you…. one other thing – how bad do you think Scott’s head will be in the morning?! 😆

  59. Potter says:

He’s happy, might not be In the morning. Cazorla as player coach ? We could do worse
As for this season :- 3 more wins and confidence will be high for the start of next . Huddersfield have sacked the manager trusted with ESR so he will be back and a mix of Arteta and Santi to finish his education is nigh on perfect.

  60. ScottfromOz says:

    I feel great this morning.
    Utd out!!
No love for the Chavs, but so many Utd fans here in Oz, all suddenly vocal again with their recent form so this will keep them quiet again for a while 🙂

  61. Sue says:

Glad to hear it, Scott! Nothing worse than a banging headache and feeling like you could eat for England (or in your case, Australia!)
Yes, was glad to see the mancs beaten.. although Chelsea have a lot to thank De Gea for 😝

  62. ScottfromOz says:

Sue, what’s happened to De Gea?
He’s made so many terrible blunders this past season or two, it’s incredible.

  63. Wavy says:

No wonder Camorra didn’t renew, Villarreal are interviewing Emery! Don’t get your hopes up that he’ll return, despite the fact that we all hoLd him dear.

  64. allezkev says:

I can’t believe that Huddersfield have sacked the Cowley brothers after they managed them to championship survival. Some clubs simply deserve to slide into decline for their abject stupidity.

Likewise Watford with the sacking of Pearson with two games left. Watford really deserve to go down, but will probably just survive after we beat Aston Villa.
    Stupid is as stupid does…

  65. Sue says:

Scott.. it seems to be ever since that move to Real fell through, he’s been dreadful – he even makes Kepa look world class 😂😂 couldn’t happen to a nicer team (well maybe Alisson hahaha)

Kev.. With regards to Pearson, who’d have thought after that wonderful night back in February (smashing Liverpool) 5 months down the line he’d be out of a job?!! Wow….

I wonder if the Cowley brothers will eventually end up back at Lincoln? Can’t see them being unemployed for long…. I bet Hull would have them!

  66. ScottfromOz says:

That’s true, Sue-he just hasn’t been the same keeper.
    Boo hoo 🙂
Clubs demand loyalty from players and managers yet often show little in return.
A League team here sacked their coach after winning 2 from 4 games after the virus restart.
This is a mid table team so hardly surprising to see them mid bloody table lol

  67. frednerk says:

    Morning Rico and All
Amazed the cowleys have been sacked
I know them and dad who I played against
many times also worked with nicky for district
    schoolboy rep games.
Kev I know you know the area well, just guessing
but Southend could be next for them.
