Chilean ‘insider’ confirms Vidal is ours! England stun hosts!

Morning all.

Only one place to start for me today and that’s with the Women’s World Cup and a huge well done to England who during the early hours of this morning defeated Canada 2-1 in front of 54,000 fans. Most I hasten to add were in support of the hosts, Canada.

England finally have a team in the semi-finals of a World Cup and that hasn’t been achieved since 1990 when Bobby Robson took the men that far. Robson’s boys fell at the next hurdle, England need to beat Japan to make sure they don’t follow suit.

Yesterday we talked about great headed goals, well I strongly suspect Lucy Bronze thinks right now that her looping one beyond the clutches of the Canadian goal-keeper Erin McLeod, sits right up there with one of her best. The scoreline was then 2-0, Jodie Taylor got the first with a super strike.

All didn’t go England’s way though and they had to defend with their lives and they did just that. Canada pulled one back but it was the Lionesses day…..

Superb stuff!

I’d hoped to stay awake and watch the game but tired eyes and a 00.30 kick-off got the better of me although I did watch Japan knock out Australia in what was a pretty good game I thought although the pundits thought it was quite drab. Japan will be a tough opposition but if England carry on defending as they are, I think they’ll be in the final.

Going back to the 54,000 crowd which is fantastic for Women’s football. Should England ever host the World Cup, would you go and watch the women play? I’m pretty sure I would, women’s football is on the rise it has been for many years now and some of the skill on show, certainly in that earlier game, is really good to watch..

All good stuff I think. Not for two regulars on HH though, one who is Canadian, the other an Aussie… lol

Yesterday we talked about some of Arsenal greatest goals scored and I can only applaud the memory some of you fans have. Plucking goals out from way back when is incredible as I can barely remember the ones in the FA Cup Final and that was just a few weeks ago….

But what about the most important goals from an Arsenal player.

Henry’s against Utd was mentioned, Alan Smith’s against Parma to win the European Cup Winners’ Cup Final, Ramsey’s against Hull City to clinch our first trophy for a few years, Michael Tomas 1989 winner at Anfield, Vieira’s penalty kick in the FA Cup Final 2005 and Pires in 2004 to secure the league title at White Hart Lane back in 2004, or Sylvain Wiltord’s winner against Man United in 2002 which meant we’d secured the league as winners at the Old Toilet. Now that was sweet!

There’s just a few so over to you and your super memories to pluck out what in your mind are the most important goals scored by Arsenal footballers…

As always, I’ll end with the transfer gossip:

Chilean journalist Hernán Feler (who says he has inside info) has apparently declared that Arsenal have signed Arturo Vidal on a radio station in his home country. He says that Alexis has convinced Vidal to sign a five year deal and as soon as Copa America is over, the big announcement will be made.

Basically, that equates to – Marca reported Vidal had agreed a deal to sign for a big European club which considering the source is Spanish, I suspect Barca is Vidal’s likely destination but Feler added his own spin to the tale by adding Arsenal to it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d be thrilled if Vidal became an Arsenal player but until something becomes official, we haven’t made any signings yet.

Arsenal and Liverpool target Luiz Adriano is available for just £5.5m claims Shakhtar Donetsk boss Mircea Lucescu. (Sunday Express)

There’s other recycled rumours but I’ll leave it there.

Petr Cech should be confirmed tomorrow so in the meantime, have a great Sunday…

Dont forget Overmars v MU 1998!

For me another obscure one was Bergy v MU in 1995. Beat them one nil and it seemed like seeds of belief started to appear for what eventually occurred in 1998.

  2. rico says:

I didn’t Naz, I just named a few to kick it off. That’s the idea….

Yes, Bergkamps goal was another very important goal, but I’m not sure it was that which turned the tables of belief but we’ll never know as Rioch was soon gone…

  3. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

Another good one boss. I wonder how you manage!!! must be a crystal mind.

I ask the question. Which one goal or performance is the one which has turned the tables of belief in this team?? Was it the cup final vs Hull?? The Charity shield vs Shitty??? Or what???

Imo it is last season’s FAcup win against Manure, when DW23 got the winner. That moment gave us the belief and impetus to surge forward in our quest to win.

  4. rico says:

Morning Devil, thanks – afc.com has to take the credit for nudging me… lol

Just thinking of the recent stuff, I’d say the win over Hull was key. The group learned what winning really meant and the way they did it after going 2-0 down should tremendous character and determination to win.

I know we had a poor start to this season but looking at who we were missing that was clearly an issue and then to return to Wembley and put in such a great performance was special.

  5. meadsy1982 says:

i did say about vidal! thats why pogba hasnt been sold. but two major signings b4 july is ere i think thats a pretty good start to the window. on another note morninggggg all and mr rico

  6. allezkev says:

    Good post Rico….

I’ll give you Paul Mersons goal at Anfield, 1990-91, in a 1-0 win, that finally broke the then current champions Liverpool.

And they’ve never really recovered have they? 😆

  7. rico says:

Morning Meadsy, we haven’t signed Vidal, it’s all just gossip and rubbish until anything is official..

    And it’s Mrs rico… 😉

I actually thought your girls would have won that game Scott, did you watch it?

  8. rico says:

Thanks Kev, good shout on Mersons goal and yes, the Dippers have been s***e ever since… 😉

Joe, how old are you if you don’t mind me asking?

  9. scottfromoz says:

I caught the second half, MRS Rico hahahahaha
They conceded a very scrappy goal late in the game, just down to poor defending but that can happen when players tire.
    Japan are a quality side.

  10. rico says:

And there was me thinking you were a young gunner Joe… You are quite an oldie really… 😉

They did Scott, great save to start with but then ‘Arsenal defending’ crept in… 😉

Japan surprised me, it was like watching ten Alexis on the pitch and one of their players nearly scored a superb goal at the near post with a Giroud like flick…

  11. meadsy1982 says:

lol sorry my bad “mrs” rico. around two days after copa america finishes hell complete his medical, then boom another chilean, ill run starkers around emirates if im wrong about the signing but its gonna be dun

  12. Joe says:

I see there’s 5 Arsenal ladies in the England squad, Scott putting you on the spot 😉 do you think England can beat Japan.

  13. Joe says:

I don’t know what would have given you that idea Rico with my Victor Meldrew like posts over the years. 🙂

  14. rico says:

Meadsy, I want whatever you are smoking…. lol

Yes Joe, England always seem to have many players in the England camp, was good to see our reserve keeper get on too and after playing only once all season for the Arsenal ladies…

    Ha ha Joe, good point.

  15. allezkev says:

Talking of vital goals again, how about 1970, Anderlecht, Arsenal trailing 3-0, Ray Kennedys goal to make it 3-1 and set it up for a victorious 2nd leg at Highbury….

  16. MRtin wengrow says:

Peter Storey’s last minute penalty goal v Stoke City in the FA Cup semi final was arguably the most important goal in Arsenal’s post war history.

  17. Adam says:

It could work out that way Rico but he had a decent squad last year too but they were generally quite average. He seems like a man in a hurry to me. The ghastly old git.

  18. allezkev says:

That Adam, was an occasion of, biblical proportions, as Lee would say in his colourful way… 😉

  19. Rick says:

Good Morning Rico and the House
Just a short visit busy day.
I have been offline for the past week so I have a lot of catching up to do.
I had my meeting Rico which went well and the key board is starting to behave,
    so things are looking up.
Best goal ever has got to be DB’s at Newcastle.
Most important, Ray’s header against the spuds on the Monday followed by the kings against the Dippers the following Sat The4y won us the First Double
    See you

  20. meadsy1982 says:

greatests goals for me were both by bergkamp. the magic v newcastle but hes first against southampton which took a bit of pressure off me getting the stick of why we bought him from my 3 yid brothers, great moment for me

  21. Joe says:

Thanks Scott aren’t Japan the current world champions and the matilda’s gave them a good match pushed them all the way.

  22. goonster says:

I ll go total ape shit crazy if we sign vidal. My God what’s going on ozil sanchez cech and vidal in less than 2 years! What’s arsene drinking lately? Me likey 😀 morning gooners.

  23. goonster says:

No one has mentioned this. Was still celebrating when this happened. Haha my scum supporting cnut of a neighbor almost had a coronary 😀 what a game.

  24. goonster says:

Seriously dev times have changed now we re being linked with some serious world class talents unlike a few seasons ago when our targets were kalou mulumbu et al. Am super chuffed 😀

  25. scottfromoz says:

Joe, they are the world champions but won it at home, and that’s worth a hell of a lot.
Also, the Aussies are getting closer to them all the time, so I’d suggest, based on gut feel, England will beat them.

  26. Micko says:

1987 League Cup Final, Liverpool had never lost a game when Ian Rush had scored for them, a record that went back something like a 100 years, up pops Champagne Charlie with a couple of blinders…ahem and puts that one to bed !!!

Not sure where that stands in the grand scheme of things but a great day for The Arsenal never the less.

  27. Dublingunner says:

Afternoon, my choice like Joes, would have to be the goal that changed my life, and set me out on this long arsenal loving journey, Alan Sunderland, What a game.
Meanwhile the debate goes on. Morgan or Arturo, if it,s to be believed, its between one of these fine players who will help fill our already stacked midfield talent.
ESPN have been quoted as saying that the Southampton midfielder had a straight choice between Old Trafford and The Emirates.
However, French football journalist Philippe Auclair tweeted to say Schneiderlin preferred Arsenal, but that the deal was far from done.
He said: “Schneiderlin, favours AFC, but also told of problems between club and representatives of the player.” Which could either means it,s down to money and United have offered a better package or Wenger had been told that Vidal was genuinely interested. I plucked this quote that was said by Arsene, Last transfer window.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed his admiration for Juventus’ Chile international Arturo Vidal, who is also a target for Manchester United, labelling him as “one of the best midfielders in the world”
“He has everything. Incredible stamina, perfect timing. He’s a marathon athlete who plays football.” I for one am not giving up on this Vidal story, its clear he thinks an awful lot of Vidal.

  28. allezkev says:

Yeah Mick, it was pretty special mate…

I thought that Paul Davis was outstanding that day…

  29. Bob John says:

Pleased for England ladies but it was like watching a park game compared with the quality of the France Germany game the day before.

  30. Micko says:

Mg, there was something about the 80’s I can’t put in to words ! And I’m not talking about Charlie Nicholas’s perm either !

Kev, Rocky’s winner against the scum in the semi, seems a few of the gang on here were there to witness it as well, a nite to remember, still don’t know how we got out alive !

  31. allezkev says:

Mick, that ground/stadium/karsey, has a feel of spiteful ness mixed with the frustration of seeing Arsenal leave them miles behind…

There is no love lost between the fans, but I cannot imagine that Spud fans feel as threatened visiting our place as our fans are at their shithole…

I guess that the Tottenham Police are just shit…

  32. allezkev says:

You only had to see how useless the Tottenham Police were when the locals decided to burn it down a few years ago…

As least the local Tottenham bobbies could have handed out a few jerrycans of petrol…

    Whatever happened to community policing?!

  33. Joaquim Moreira says:

Goals? So many… I remembre Charlie George 1971, Alan sunderland when we beat MU in F CUP, Ray Kennedy versus anderlect and so on. All the important moments, when we won, are memorable. Even when loose in europe against Galastasaray or Valencia…
Do we have 5 Arsenal ladies in England team?
Semi-.finals kick off on Tuesday (0:30) and Wednesday (0:30) here local time
William Carvalho grow up with u-21 European competition. We have been the man of the match for twice. Final: kick-off on tuesday Portugal-Sweden.
Chilian newspapers notice Vidal will be an Arsenal player and will be annouce next week.
When Arsenal return to work? Alexis and maybe Vidal haven’t be in holidays yet…..

  34. Wavy says:

Goals there’ve been so many! My first ever game, Gery Ward from 25 yards an absolute stonker! If I’d had any doubts of my loyalty to the Arsenal he cured me with a wonderful goal. No TV in those days although I think the club used to have the games recorded on ‘super 8’!
Most important goal, Charlie George 1971. All the players were knackered and it was heading towards a replay, a game I feel sure we would not have won! God bless yer Charlie! A Reyes goal against Blackburn, it was a tap in, but the speed of passing and movement both with and without the ball was outstanding. Henry could have scored but he ran over the ball to ‘let’ Reyes score as he needed a goal. And also Reyes goal against Chelsea, in his first ever game. What a cracker. Etc etc.
Good idea Rico. Seems to have set everybody off down nostalgia avenue…..again. Love it!

  35. Malaga gooner says:

JW10 is in Dubai, I know he could be on holiday, or is he on is way out with vidal coming in

  36. Rick says:

    Evening Rico.
Have been reading some of the posts and comments made during the past
fortnight. I honestly do not know how you think them up Rico and some of the debate’s have have been brilliant. I wish I could be as eloquent as some of the guys.
I have noticed that there has been some confusion over the transfer window.
This is how I understand it to be,
The English T/W is open from the 1st July until the 31st Aug and players can only be transferred during this period.
However negotiation’s and agreements can take place before the 1st July but the signing of the transfer cannot take place until the T/W officially opens.

  37. rico says:

    Evening Rick,

We sure have a good group here and it’s great so many different views are shared. I’m sure some of us think some of us are smoking something quite strong when we express our thoughts but hey, that’s what makes the world go around and makes life interesting….

Thankfully, most people don’t tell me I’m a plank for my views, otherwise it would be a good reason for me to bow out….. Lol

  38. Micko says:

Kev 2.38, I do love the smell of bacon !

Mg 7.19, they do say you can tell a lot about a woman by her hands, you wouldn’t want rico’s round your neck mate lol.

  39. Rick says:

    JM
Some of our younger players returned to training 2 days ago. 11 first team players return tomorrow, more in a fortnights time and others at the end of the month
It all depends how Chile fair in the Copa as to when Alex returns. Arsene has stated he will give him 28 days holiday now they play their Semifinal tomorrow lose that and he should be back end of July .If they reach the final played next
Sat (4th) he will miss the Charity Shield and the first match of the season

  40. Micko says:

rico, I was always in detention, 100 lines for me…….

I must not be so flippant
I must not be so flippant

Roll on Monday, Cech tomorrow and Vidal in the bag lol, happy days, keep it real Gooners.

  41. potter says:

My lines were :- My natural verbosity is in direct antithesis to the successful consummation of my academic career . x 100 for persistent talking in class .

  42. Wavy says:

You naughty, naughty boy Potter. Step to the front of the class and bring your ruler with you!
Lines like that could only be issued by a Grammar School teacher. Am I right?

It was said to me one more than one occasion, I think I had too much rattle, as well!

  43. allezkev says:

    My lines were:

‘I must stop playing with jerrycans of petrol and matches’….

But then I did go to The Somerset School in Tottenham…
Just 10 minutes walk up the road from Broadwater Farm Estate…
    Delightful place!

  44. rico says:

Micko, I was given a detention for not turning up for my detention! Who would on a Saturday morning….

    Morning all.

    No Vidal then, no surprise…

  45. Luznic says:

Vidal signed will be happy but doubt it, its tough when my mobile browser won’t let me comment, and my PC browser won’t even log me on to HH, miss contributing to the topics here, Hello to the lady of the house, TS Been a while, grandpa Kev, wath and all gooners in residence, hope I can contribute more in the coming days, but why cech is not on the official site yet I don’t understand

  46. tsgh says:

    Morning Rico, Dev and all,

Hey luznic, have you arrived just in time to kick-start the transfer activities for us…?

So Morgan is definitely signing for LvG? Goonie have a word with your fellow dutch man…

  47. Luznic says:

Howdy Ts, I don’t know what’s the delay with cech’s arrival, I just think Arsenal want to do this by the book and announce the signing after July 1st so till then no punching of F5 on the official site, Vidal and Cech in, Podolski,Sanogo,Flamini, Campbell out and we would have had a good summer and he should hold on to Boscielny
