Cheers!

Morning all.

I can’t remember which beer was on sale the last time I was at The Emirates. Probably that ghastly Fosters or something similar. Thinking about it, there’s nothing similar to Fosters really unless you’re into drinking washing up water. Ok, each to there own I know, I’m sure some people love it. Just not me. I’ve never tried anything produced by Camden Town Brewery either so who knows, it could be worse. No, I doubt it too.

Anyway, the club have signed up to a three year deal with the brewery and there’s a great story behind it as their beer was first brewed in 2010 by founder and lifelong Arsenal supporter, Jasper Cuppaidge, in his Hampstead pub, The Horseshoe. The Camden Town Brewery has seen significant growth in its relatively short history. Despite this growth, the original brewery is still based locally, just two miles from Emirates Stadium within the Victorian railway arches underneath Kentish Town West station. – Arsenal.com

So what’s in the news today. Well, we’ll find out later who becomes the new prime minister for the Uk. Boris Johnson or Jeremy Hunt. No, not that kind of news, Arsenal news….

We have Nacho Monreal talking about being one of Unai Emery’s ten captains which is something he wants to be:

To be one of the captains makes me happy and makes me feel like I have more responsibility,” he said.

“I have been playing for Arsenal for almost seven years and I think step by step I am feeling more important inside the group, and I am trying to help the younger players because a long time ago I was one of them!

“Now it is my moment to teach them and to give some advice to them. I want to feel important and to feel involved in the group.

Perhaps he could get get hold of 20 year old Tolaji Bola and help fast track him into first team contention because we need a left back and Celtic are playing silly buggers over the potential transfer of Kieren Tierney.

Monreal has been good for us and I’m pleased he’s staying for another season. Despite his ageing legs, he still has a lot to offer I think, off the pitch as well as on it.

Unai Emery has been talking to the Arsenal Player too. Transfers, a subject on all our minds right now. He’s been bugging up Ceballos:

We were speaking about the possibility to sign one player on loan and we have different names. The club was working on that. Ceballos is a very good player, I know him from Betis at the beginning and also at Real Madrid. He played very well with the under-21s, they won with his national team in this competition.

if there was any doubt about Cebellos joining us, I think we can put it to bed now. Emery wouldn’t talk so freely in my opinion if a deal wasn’t close. Ornstein has said its close too so it must be happening. Same with Saint-Etienne centre-back William Saliba, who Ornstein suggests will agree a move before heading back to France on loan for the season.

The Spaniard also talked about who would play in tonight’s fixture against Real Madrid, our last friendly in the USA.

We started to playing against Colorado Rapids with a lot of young players and progressively we are using less minutes and to share with the experienced players. It depends on the matches. Tomorrow, at the beginning I want to take more minutes with the players thinking about our progress for the first match against Newcastle. But also, we are going to use some young players at the beginning or during the match to continue trying with this difficult capacity against Real Madrid.

In in other words, pretty much same as before but perhaps with a bit more experience as the preparations for the new season go up a level. I think Willock will be in there though, unless he needs a breather because out of all the players from the academy, he’s the one I think Emery really believes to be ready. I’d love to see him alongside Torreria at some stage before the season kicks off, especially against a strong opposition like Real Madrid tonight or Barcelona in a few days time but sadly, that’s not going to happen as like Iwobi, Nelson and Guendouzi, he’s having a break after international duty this summer.

Talking of Nelson, there’s all sorts of rumours flying around on NewsNow that he’s been offered to Crystal Palace on loan as part of a deal for Wilfried Zaha. Must be poppycock surely as he should be staying at Arsenal and playing. In any case, why hand him a first team squad number if he’s off out on loan? Doesn’t make any sense to me but then that’s this time of year for you. Rumours, gossip, darn right poppycock.

Have a great Tuesday people…

Good morning Rico, lovely weather here in sun drenched Norfolk an early morning cup of tea in the garden with the paper, delivered as I got up at six-thirty, but it’s hotting up now so I’ve moved under the apple tree for breakfast.

Emery sounds a bit confused about his team selection, but it’s probably due to the language problem.

Don’t know what to expect this evening, it would be good to continue the winning run.

    Morning Cicero, all.

I think it’s a language problem too because he hardly ever answers a question properly. Must be difficult although, a year in and his English must be better. Better than my Spanish that’s for sure. Lol

  3. Potter says:

It’s a good deflection tactic using a language barrier. Is it only 2 miles from the new stadium to Kentish Town ? It always seemed longer when we walked back from Highbury mind you we did stop off a few times on the way 🤭

  4. rico says:

Poch did that too didn’t he. And Sarri I think but at least Emery learned the language.

‘Stop off on the way’. Can’t think why or what for… lol

  5. Paddywhack says:

Dont you just love the press when they say “it has been reported that Arsenal have signed ………”. It surely has been reported that Arsenal have only signed one youngster, no Tierney, Zaha etc etc. It thought Wenger and IG were the ditherers lol

    Afternoon Fosters, er Gooners.

Afternoon Rico, always handy having a few bottles in the fridge on a day like today.

Eddie, Eddie, Eddie Nketiah, he still isn’t sure whether to stay or to go on loan?

I guess if Unai Emery brings in another forward, then that might eventually convince him to join Charlton or Bristol City or one of the many clubs that want to take him for a season.

Personally I’d like to see him stay, why can’t he play wide left or wide right?
Do we think that Wilfred Zaha would score more goals than Eddie, given the same minutes on the pitch, I personally don’t think so?

Why spend upwards of £60m on a position where we’re well stocked when we’re crying out for new defenders?

It’s as daft as seeing Wenger sign another tippy tally attacking midfielder when we’ve got Silvestre and Gallas at centre back – I don’t get it?

We need a proper left back (forget Tierney) Kolasinac is an accident waiting to happen and Nachos legs have gone. That’s a scenario that’s really gonna smack us in the gob if it’s not attended to…

And right back, Maitland – Niles is struggling already and it’s only preseason, Hector won’t be fit until October at the earliest I reckon, we need a decent right back now, not next summer…
That’s another disaster cooking away, waiting to boil over.
    Never mind about bloody Zaha….

Centre back needs urgent attention, Mustafi will cost us points, he just can’t cut it, I’d rather play him at right back, Holding needs time, Koscielny is going, wtf is going on, why aren’t we fixing those areas that stand out like a sore thumb???

Centre midfield, the new Spanish guy might be good, but really, we need a proper defensive midfielder, Xhaka isn’t good enough, but he’ll play and in stressful situations he’ll fail as he always does and it will cost us points.

It worries me because our recruitment still isn’t prioritising the areas that are crying out for improvement, a bit like January, when we needed a centre back and Emery wanted Suarez.
    That really worked didn’t it?

    Kim Kallstrom reloaded…

Come on Raul, focus mate, focus on our weaknesses ffs….

    Afternoon Kev.

I’m on the same page re Zaha. If we don’t sign some reinforcements at the back and in midfield in terms of defence, we’re stuffed from the off.

Surely Edu can see it, he’s no fool..

  8. Limey says:

Absolutely agree with Kev about Kolasinac,he just isn’t a very good footballer. Also Mustafi,he is less of a risk at Right Back, he’s not just a mistake waiting to happen, he’s a guaranteed mistake. He can be good, works hard but you just know the mistake will be just around the corner, and always seems to cost us.

  9. Cicero says:

Real Madrid 2 – 2 Arsenal full-time but Real win on penalties. Sokratis sent off with two yellow cards in a couple of minutes.

    Thunderstorm here right now!.

  10. potter says:

Officious refereeing apparently , 2 players off in the first 40 minutes . Tim Ford in 20 matches since 2017 has now 72 yellows on his belt and 4 reds to his name. I didn’t see the match the storms cut off electric , so I would like to hear the truth off the bookings and not just see the highlights which will not show the build ups and the circumstances surrounding them .
Reckon you heard the thunder Cicero , you are about 30 minutes away but here the gap between lightning and thunder was almost immediate , our house shook a couple of times .
Seems that Willock is getting the praises and Jenkinson was good too , so Emery has lots to think about ,also the Ceballos deal could be off as Asensio might be out for the season .
    What to do ?

  11. Cicero says:

‘ morning Potter, yep I heard the thunder all right, the storm lasted for about an hour with more rumbles around 6am.

Real’s Nacho was sent off for handball in the penalty area which led to Lacazette scoring from the spot. Both of the bookings Sokratis got were described as “harsh”.

Losing the Ceballos deal at this stage would be an indictment of our negotiating team, they totally lack any sense of urgency. The Tierney move has also stalled, again where was the desire to get the deal done quickly.

We’re a bit like the people who used to hang around Smithfield on Christmas Eve hoping to get a cheap turkey at the last minute.

Last night Emery said “Arsenal must improve defensively”. No s**t Sherlock! He also admitted that an Arsenal title challenge is “unrealistic” but that was stating the bleeding obvious.

  12. rico says:

    Morning Cicero, Potter, all.

Both sendings off looked harsh to me. I guess some officials like to hog the limelight.
