Cheap Arsenal deal confirmed! Two doubts ahead of Palace fixture….

Morning all.

Arsenal FC have done something good, very good for it’s fans.

As announced previously by the official site, there will be no mainline trains running back from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston after the match against Utd so the club has worked with Virgin Trains to charter a train for 450 fans to make the journey. I know, 450 is not that many in numbers but they are also laying on extra coaches.

Not only is that a fine gesture but both train and coach travel are being subsidised by the club which will of course to reduce costs for the fans.

Train tickets will be £30 (first class) and £20 (standard class). Return coach travel will be £10 a head. Travel will only be available for supporters with a valid away ticket for the game.

Classy eh? It costs me more than that to get to The Emirates….

Keep an eye on the official website from 10am today for more travel information. Tickets go on sale then too.

Before that FA Cup encounter, we have a few tricky matches to overcome starting with Crystal Palace tomorrow and a few players need late fitness tests which is never good to hear. Hector Bellerin has some kind of ankle problem and Mathieu Flamini has a tight hamstring.

Aaron Ramsey is a couple of weeks away from returning to training but better news for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as he resumed full training yesterday. Good. Jack Wilshere is fit and healthy and should return to the squad tomorrow but Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Debuchy are still tasked with keeping Abou Diaby company.

It’ll be interesting to see who Arsene Wenger selects tomorrow as just four days later we face Monaco in the Champions League.

That’s it for today, short and sweet…..

Have a good Friday….

Palace have a few ‘speed merchants’ up front, so maybe Wenger will play a deeper line tomorrow…
Hopefully Bellerin recovers, but Chambers played really well vs M’Boro so I’d not worry to much if he started…
It’s gonna be a hard, typical London derby.
Forget Monaco, let’s deal with this one.
    You listening Arsene???

Joint statement from Arsenal fans’ organisations

    By Kevin Whitcher

    & The Gooner

Joint statement from The Gooner, REDaction, AST and BSM

Working together for the matchgoing fans

Today, three leading Arsenal fans’ organisations and the club’s main fanzine wrote to Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis, asking for a meeting to discuss how we can get a better deal for match-going fans.

The Gooner, together with REDaction, the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust and the Black Scarf Movement, also shared the results of our recent joint survey of over 2,000 Arsenal fans. This covered issues including atmosphere, kick-off times, ticket prices, and access to live football for younger fans.

The survey ran before the announcement of the new Premier League TV deal, but the main conclusions were very clear:
    • Over 97% of fans want to see some of the additional money from the new TV deal used to reduce ticket prices.
    • 96% support existing campaigns for standard pricing for away fans – in contrast to the current situation which sees Arsenal fans charged ‘Category A’ prices at most away grounds.
    • 95% of fans think that when a game is moved for TV coverage, some of the money earned by clubs should be used to compensate fans for inconvenience via lower ticket prices.
    • In addition, over 85% of fans think that some TV money should be ringfenced to provide cheaper tickets for younger (16 to 21 year old) fans; and the same number support the idea of Arsenal issuing ‘home credits’ to ensure that seats are used for all games.

It is obvious who benefits from ever bigger TV deals – club owners, players and their agents, TV viewers and TV companies. It is also very clear that match-going fans get the rough end of this deal – as games are moved to inconvenient kick-off times, and ticket prices remain high despite the amount of TV money flowing into the game.

Our aim in writing to Ivan Gazidis today is to open constructive dialogue on ensuring match-going fans share in the benefits of bumper TV deals – or at least are not completely disregarded along the way. The three Arsenal fans’ organisations involved and The Gooner are in complete agreement on this – and will work with each other and with groups from other clubs to keep the views of match-going fans on the agenda.

Joint action , at last I wonder if it will fall on deaf ears. This needs to be publicised to garner support from other clubs . It’s about time that the fans started to use their influence over the clubs and the media to shame them into doing it.

Talking of Leyton Orient, why Rick, don’t Arsenal switch their Youth Cup game to Brisbane Road?

Who wants to slap it up to Barnet after a days work?!

  10. Wavy says:

Because Kev, Barnet is such a pleasant village to visit ,as opposed to Leyton, inner city, almost, East end!! Not to mention Leyton for most supporters is far more convenient and lastly we wouldn’t want to give any cash to our nearby neighbours and possible rivals!!!
    Night all

  11. Wavy says:

Morning all. Beautiful blue skies here. Shame there will be very little ‘blue skies’ thinking from this location though!

Gave up Eastenders when Todd Carty’s character contracted AIDS. It was just a storyline too far. There were also side effects to watching the soap twice a week..I frequently went to work the following day will a huge sad on as a result of yet another miserable storyline!

Who killed the Beale child? I could care less. Sorry to all the addicts but it’s not for me nor any other soap operas. The only exception is the Archers which I listen to avidly. However, if the storylines deviate much more from the tales of ‘simple countryfolk’ this too will get the old heave ho! I want distraction not melancholy and misery!

The Arsenal? Now there’s a soap opera all on its own! Speaking of melancholy and misery, excitement and elation etc it has all the elements of a well written daily drama. It’s enough for me, anyway.

Crystal Palace today? Should win but I don’t think it will be an easy ride. On their day they are not a bad side. Let’s hope this is not one of their days and we are businesslike in our demolition of the south London club.
