Cech done, Carvalho and Lacazette to join him? Ospina set for French move?

Good morning you lovely people!

Ding Dong, Petr Cech is an Arsenal player!

Happy? You bet I am….

Welcome to Arsenal FC Petr!
Welcome to Arsenal FC Petr!

What is there really to say?

Well some people say Petr Cech isn’t the keeper he used to be….

Some people say he wasn’t a priority…

But then some, mainly on the Chesea side of the fence, say this transfer should never have been allowed. Well I think we all know that had jumped up Jose had his way, it wouldn’t have!

One could easily believe that all the crap spouted by Jose about getting a home-grown player included in the deal was all about the little man trying to act big, perhaps even trying to reassure the Chelsea fans that he was in control but reality is, Roman was having none of it and he remained true to his word. Petr Cech really was allowed to choose his future.

And he chose Arsenal! Up yours Jose!

Massive signing for Arsenal imo, a huge statement of intent. We’ve got a great goalkeeper, a player Jose didn’t want to sell to us and a player who may very well save us ten points a season as that’s what class keepers do. Just look at how many times we’ve faced a side, battered them all game but their keeper has been outstanding and kept everything we have thrown at the goal, out. Sometimes that team has the hit us on the break and made us pay.

Well as much as Cech is a good keeper, he’s an organiser too and he’ll surely keep the defence focussed. I can’t wait to see him in an Arsenal shirt. Quality, experienced and a winner!

Arsene Wenger is clearly quite happy:

Petr Cech is a player that I have admired for a long time and I am very pleased that he has decided to join us. He has proven over many seasons that he is one of the outstanding keepers in the world and he will add great strength to our squad.

Cech did the decent thing yesterday as he thanked his old club, the owner and managers gone by etc etc and then wham, in an interview on the official site he said: ‘I’m here to win silverware’.

Good because that’s where we need to be heading but as said before, just adding a top class goalkeeper to this squad isn’t enough, I’d be happy with two more now, a DM/HM and either a striker or a winger who can get goals for fun.

I’m of the view that a striker/winger and a strong midfielder is all we need now to finally lift a bigger trophy than the FA Cup.

Come on Arsene, come on Arsenal, don’t disappoint us this summer, we are so so close….

Gossip:

  • Atletico Madrid’s attacking midfielder Arda Turan could be heading to the Premier League with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal reportedly interested in signing the 28-year-old Turkey international. (Express)
  • Arsenal are no longer interested in Juventus’ Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal (Daily Telegraph).
  • Instead, Arsene Wenger will turn his attentions to Portugal Under-21 star William Carvalho (London Evening Standard).
  • Lyon offer Arsene Wenger striker Alexandre Lacazette for £21m. (Telegraph)
  • Marseille are considering a move for David Ospina.

Carvalho has been quite impressive in the Under 21 European Cup and Lacazette scores for fun it seems. 31 goals in 40 appearances last season and isn’t that the kind of goal tally each term we are looking for?

If by some miracle we signed the Portuguese midfielder and the French striker, would you be happy?

Finally, well done to Chile for beating Peru last night to reach the Copa America Cup Final.

Happy Tuesday guys, the Arsenal transfer window is open and it’s not even the 1st July!

Nothing quite like getting a big Cech in…

Estrella and San Miguel have been duly warned Lee, production doubled I am assured..!

  2. Alistair Stuart Mcmillan says:

Certainly a statement of intent , ideally what do we need more a dm to give the squad more depth or a striker who can play on the wings too

  3. rogerbij says:

    Nice rallying call Rico!!
    >If by some miracle we signed the Portuguese midfielder and the French striker, would you be happy?

    Short answer, yup.

You could also swap Carvalho for MorganS and I would also be super happy, maybe happier because of the PL experience he brings…

  4. bondex says:

Morning all,im still really excited by petr’s move….still; watching to see what AW does in the next few days..

  5. rico says:

You maybe right Drake but I hope not, not Monreal, wouldn’t make sense to me…

    Thanks Roger.

Same here, Morgan or Carvalho, I’d be happy. Pogba, even more happy…. lol

  6. rico says:

    Welcome Asm, agree there..

Morning Adam. I haven’t seen him play either but he’s been getting a lot of good reviews…

  7. Brian Price says:

    Hi Rico
‘mainly on the Chelsea side of the fence’ means everyone except a Gooner 🙂
Lets not forget the great job David did for us last season
    Brian

  8. Adam says:

Rico. So did Gervinho. Hazard said he was the best player he had ever played with. History does not mention if he dissolved into fits of laughter afterwards though.

  9. allezkev says:

The roads around the Elephant/Kennington are totally fcuked up…

Great to see TFL and that blond buffoon Boris are ‘on it’….. Not

  10. Luznic says:

Morning House, hello grandpa Kev, Arsenal fooled me there I was waiting for the announcement to be made on Wednesday then boom!! We signed Cech yesterday. Like Ozil would say Ya gunners Ya……now Fast forward to August 2

  11. Lee says:

I hear that Francis Umbongo is unhappy at FK Dukla Prague….. now might be the time to activate his release clause?!?! 30m euros well invested in my book! 😉

  12. Alistair Stuart Mcmillan says:

All these links with centre backs is strange unless hes going to use chambers as coquelins understudy.

  13. rico says:

Hi Brian, no-one will forget how well Ospina did..

One I enjoyed writing Kev.. 😉

Can’t see Debuchy starting at right-back Drake, I really can’t..

  14. Wavy says:

Kev, it’s not about the size of Willys or le Coq but the way they use it! Their balls that is!
    I’ve got my coat on!
    Cech, what a buy!
Who’s next through the turnstiles? The mind boggles. Stan the man has opened his purse and out of it are flying the best players in the world, no crap!!

  15. tsgh says:

Drake Kimmich is better and has more playing experience than Goudino so maybe that is the only difference.

None better than Keiss though… 🙂

I think Seb Rode is the next best thing from Fc Hollywood…

A similar comparison will be Serge and Ox; both technically good but Ox shades now because he plays more although Serge is tactically superior imo…

  16. allezkev says:

You know what Ginge, all that terrorist stuff has never stopped me going about my business. Never has done. Never will…

I worked all through 7/7, and before that the IRA, plus numerous demonstrations and riots…

Stiff upper lip and all that jazz…

Or, as they say around Balls Pond Road, fcuk ’em…

  17. AndrewH says:

The post I’ve been waiting for you to write rico! Morning. Some Extremely nasty tweets yesterday, as low as some could get.

  18. Anders says:

Drake I have seen Sisto play a lot for Fc Midtjylland and he is playing really good, taking on players and scoring goals. Voted best player in Denmark

  19. Dublingunner says:

Morning, great post Rico, I ran around my kitchen punching the air, yesterday late when i heard it was confirmed.to those who are not as excited or dont class he,s capture as a priority, I think only time will prove how important it was to bring him in. Opinions may differ, but imo he was been kept out of the team, by potentially, as much as i hate to say it, the best stopper in the world. he will be out to prove that he,a still as good as these young, fantastic keepers, no doubt about it. Valuable points will be gained in very important games and close cup ties, thats what sets these great keepers apart, from the rest, Lets rejoice Lol!!!.

  20. tsgh says:

    😀 Kev

I was in Ashford the other day and I saw this decked out Black Cab with Arsenal flags etc…; I was thinking what was kev doing here…

  21. Wavy says:

Mainland-miles has gone on loan to Ipswich. I wonder if he’ll take his mother with him????
    Another one gone then!

  22. Dublingunner says:

A solid start to hopefully a very good transfer window, Has anyone seen the terms of his contract, theres not much written as yet about the details.

  23. Luznic says:

I am good grandpa Kev, still grinning because of the gift Arsenal Gave me yesterday, TS I watched Lacazette in the U20 WC 2011 and I knew he would be a big hit ( anyway I thought of that with Sinama pongolle in 2001 also), its a pity we won’t sign him, I see Wenger getting one more person in and I hope its a DM, I haven’t seen WC play but with all that has been mentioned here, I think we need him more than Vidal or Morgan because he is the type that just protect the back 4 and makes it easy for the attacking players to perform at the other end, on the other hand Vidal is a box to box IMO something like Ramsey, Morgan is nothing like le coq, I think WC even without watching him play yet and just basing things on what I read here is that man that can sit in front of the defence, with him in the side I think I won’t be joking if I say the EPL trophy should be all that matters this coming season nothing less than that should be accepted, and Rico thanks for always giving me something to read daily, your service is a global service and I hope you know how much you are appreciated……..

  24. Joe says:

Balls pond Rd as a child the family and I used to live just of it on Birder Rd before we returned to Ireland haven’t thought about it for a long time thanks Allezkev for bring back some memories.

  25. Drake says:

Ts It geis.players like leno, gnabry and geis should have started games but it seems like you get to be a starter based on which club do you play for

  26. Dublingunner says:

Vidal anyday for me Luznic, although another box to box player, which we have already, what we dont have is a player like him, a beast,a player to drag us kicking and screaming over the line and will give blood, sweat and tears. players like that are few and far between. If Cech was a no brainer, and we actually have a chance of getting Vidal, it is imo another no brainer.

  27. rico says:

I think it was only me who wanted Sakho but I don’t mind putting my hands up and say I got that one wrong.

Adam Capoue might have been a good signing, didn’t he suffer a serious injury not long after joining the neighbours? Against us I think and that did him….

  28. Dublingunner says:

I can,t see Lacazette coming to us, I,d very cautious on that one, although he scored 27 league goals last season, the previous 2 seasons he only managed 18 league goals in 67 app,. I dont think Wenger brings in players on having 1 good season. Not for me im afraid.

  29. tsgh says:

The sperds make almost every player shite.

Lamela was a top top player for both Roma and Argentina before he wore the sperds jersey.

Next season lamella and Mandzukic will be leading the old lady’s front line in the UCL and we will see the calibre of player he was.

  30. Adam says:

You’re right Rico. He might have been a good signing. I have wondered if Costa would have been a different player for us than the revolting pig has has turned out at Chelsea.
It’s always the players you don’t have that are the answer though.
I don’t know many of the, because I usually only watch the Spanish games. I don’t really like football very much but I was born and bought up in Highbury so it’s more of a cultural thing for me.

  31. tsgh says:

Roger- our in-house portugese expert does not rate WC much…

I think WC will suit Italian or Spanish leagues.

Agreed Drake re kimmich; Oh and Fc Munech fans talk shite.. 🙂 All they do is bully the rest of the Bundesliga..

  32. rico says:

I reckon you are right there Ts. They signed some good players but ruined them…

    Spot on Lee.

Adam, I think you are right too, there’s no way AW would have allowed Costa to play the way he did last season, but then perhaps he knew what he was like a stayed well away. He was a bit of a thing in Spain wasn’t he?

  33. Adam says:

He was Rico. Every time I saw him he was causing problems with his underhand ways. Winding people up etc. Strangely enough he can actually play a bit so it must be a personality trait.

  34. allezkev says:

I liked Sakho as well Rico…
    Glad we didn’t get him…

    I also liked M’Villa, Rico…
Glad we didn’t get him either…

    Capoue as well…
    Etc etc 😀

  35. Dublingunner says:

Piss Mourinho off, bring Drogba in on a free, leave im rotting on the bench. Win the league and have Cech and Drogba run around the Emirates with the trophy, Everyones a winner.

  36. Dublingunner says:

Playing most of his time on his back, all of his career, Adam. although i don,t like the man, it Would be funny.

  37. Adam says:

DG. If Abramovich had never happened I think Drogba might have come to us. Possibly Cech and even Essien too. Best thing would be that Chelsea might have gone out of business and there would be a supermarket there now. I wonder where their legions of racists would have gone? BNP FC I suppose.

  38. Dublingunner says:

Any word on the length of Cechs contract, all a bit vague at the moment, or am i missing something

  39. Micko says:

Dublin, I read it was 4 years, what I don’t get is the undisclosed fee, what’s that all about !

  40. Dublingunner says:

Most probably chelsea wrangled some add-ons or bonus,s to be paid from us in due course. these sales shouldn,t have to be so complicated.

  41. Micko says:

How do Lee, may all your problems be bottled ones !

rico, I’ve told Grumpy to keep the last week in August free !

  42. Tai says:

I would have preferred Vidal to any midfielder…if there was no Ramsey. I’d never sign any player, however good, that’d derail Ramsey and Wilshere. And take it or leave it, the difference between Vidal and Ramsey is injury. Give Ramsey two injury-free seasons and he’d give you whatever Vidal can…of course, Vidal is more physical and powerful…but whatever Ramsey loses in comparison to rough house he more than makes up in assists and goals.

Then Coquelin…here lies Wenger’s dilemma. Le Coq’s last half-season couldn’t have been better. He played every match, including big ones, with every assurance and confidence of a big player. Bringing any other player to consign the French battler to the bench is injustice of the highest order. We need another DM but I don’t see Wenger signing one that would confine Le Coq to second fiddle.

The only Arsenal starter I’d sacrifice in the team is Mertesacker…and I’d look for a defender who’d defend and run as well…

Cech done, solid defense , relieve Sanchez and Walcott of defensive duties and we’d score more than enough goals without bothering for a new striker.

  43. Dublingunner says:

The funny thing about these transfer windows is all the names mentioned so far, could absolutely mean nothing, as has happened time and time again, Wenger will most probably bring in a great player who hasn,t been even mentioned yet. Pogba sounds good, at this stage of he,s career, where he still has alot to prove, should not be out of our price range. yet.

  44. Malaga gooner says:

Rico what is expensive now a days, i can see wenger pulling one out of the bag and no 1 will see it coming

  45. rico says:

Dublin, most we read is bollox as we all know, Cech is big but like you, I think he has a real biggie in his plans… Pogba fits that criteria lol

  46. rico says:

Good question Mg, the transfer valuations have gone mad…

£15million for Chambers seems a lot right now considering Clyne is about to be sold for less…

  47. allezkev says:

Rico, give Chambers time, he’s still very young, but he’s going to be a really top player…

  48. allezkev says:

Ok, fair comment Rico, I’m not digging you out its just that I think it’s a bit too early to judge…

You know what Wenger is like at spending money, so he must have seen something in him to lay out that kind of dough…

  49. rico says:

I know you weren’t Kev, like you I think he Chambers will be a good un but I’m not sure where he’ll play. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him in midfield in a year or so….

Spot on re AW though, he doesnt waste money in rubbish, well, apart from…… 😉

  50. rico says:

Now I appreciate how an iPad makes up its own words!

Sorry Adam but I can’t be bothered to rectify the errors…. 😉

  51. Adam says:

Come on Rico. It’s worth it. 🙂
Kev and brudder never cut me any slack. They come down hard if I even use a colon when a semi-colon would be more appropriate.

  52. rico says:

Adam, but I’m me, you are you… And as you know, I don’t give a toot about grammar or spelling…. 😉 😉

Well, not on a footie blog…..

  53. allezkev says:

Outrageous grammatical errors on here today….

    It’s totally unacceptable.

I will certainly write to my MP to complain…

  54. allezkev says:

I don’t think Pearson will too much trouble getting another job…

Think I might put a Fiver on Leicester going down…

  55. allezkev says:

In a statement on their official website, Huddersfield Town have announced that their Head of Medical and first team physio, James Haycock, has left to join Arsenal.

  56. allezkev says:

The appointment comes in the wake of the departure of Declan Lynch, who left the Gunners to join Bath Rugby club.

  57. allezkev says:

Not sure Rico, but it’s good to see the club working to improve their terrible injury record…

You might be right about Shad…

Before he arrived things just seemed to drift…

  58. Lee says:

It’s warm already in London Town…. Kev you be careful in that cab today, I don’t want you gently sautéing in your driver’s seat! 😉

  59. tsgh says:

    Morning Rico and all,

    Drake you left out Asier…;
turan may end up at Yanited if Di Maria.
Also if the bin-dippers get him at the price Perez wants, that will mean RM will have more money to chase Pogba.

Perez is looking to ship Asier off to turin as part of a deal for Pogba/Vidal apparently

  60. tsgh says:

Turan may end up at Yanited if a hefty offer is received from Barca for Di Maria courtesy of Messi ….

oh apparently one of Perez/ Rafa wants to Isco but Juve would only consider cash plus Isco for Pogba.

That is if Barca have not already signed Pogba as rumoured…
Barca need a replacement for Xavi…

  61. Marshall says:

    Morning all.
Love your articles Rico. Good to see that Petr guy has joined us! Now about a cdm/cm am not really sure, cause it seems we are forgetting how outstanding le coq was for us. imo i don’t think wenger will sign a player hence hindering Columbo coq’s development. I thinkWenger sees arteta and (unfortunately) flamini as his back ups- even chambers.

as for the CM role we have wilshere, ramsey and Carzola who have made it his own. we are abit crowded there- unless someone clears first- flamini – won’t be suprised if we don’t sign anybody.

  62. tsgh says:

As best as my interpretation/undersanding of the ban is, Barca can buy a player but they can’t register or play him…

The restriction will be that a club like Barca can’t buy a top player plying his trade in EU and expect the said player to only train an not play matches or play league matches on loan somewhere but not play UCL football…
The risk is too huge as if Juve and Barca have an agreement on someone like Pogba to stay with them until January then who pays Pauls’ wages…

  63. tsgh says:

    Agreed Drake-
I read Isco was meant to be sold but rafa and fans want to keep him apparently…

So Shitty and Jose/Roman are in talks with Bulut for Arda.
If Jose gets Turan, and Bergovic they will win the EPL again imho…
    Psg also interested

  64. tsgh says:

Drake- RM will only have Silva as their CDM if Modric is sold. I doubt Asier fits into Rafa’s plan.
If Ramos goes to Yanited/Shitty then they will need another DM/CDM.
Kroos did a job there but he is will need someone with ‘legs’ next to him e.g Khedira of 3 years ago
