Cavani In, Campbell Out? Wenger confirms he will be making signings on deadline day….

Morning all.

Did you know that on this day back in 1919, Arsenal FC began their unbroken run in the Top Division of English football? Yes, of course you did.

Portuguese newspaper Record reports that Arsenal are still working on trying to sign Cavani and we can agree a deal for him, Joel Campbell will be allowed to move to Benfica, who have made an offer. Hmmm!

Arsene Wenger held his usual press conference yesterday and of course, everyone wanted to know if he’d be heading off to Lidil with his basket in hand….

It’s harder to buy top, top, top players, yes. Many clubs are on the market and everybody knows each other.

The last few days are poker games. There’s a lot of lies there in the few days, everybody is interested in the same player even if you’re the only one who wants the player. [When you are experienced] you can call it a bluff when it is a bluff.

What on earth is he on about?

Then of course came the big question about about whether of not he’ll be signing a striker after Olivier Giroud has been confirmed to be out until 2015:

You have decided that I have to buy strikers – I have not necessarily decided that! I promise you that if we sign somebody, we’ll inform you.

I will be actively involved but on the last day of the window. I will of course be on alert until the last minute of the transfer deadline.

Heard it all before Arsene.

Our best striker is out and yes, Olivier Giroud is our best striker until Alexis truly finds his feet and the only way to deal with that loss is by signing another striker. Forget all the stuff about Podolski, Walcott, Campbell and Sanogo because he’s barely played some, and he’s hardly played any of them up front so to think they’ll suddenly will be our saviour would be naive and simply stupid!

I don’t know if Podolski was truly on the verge of leaving but from what the player has been posting on the social media networks, it certainly appeared that way, now though those plans have been scuppered. This is another Bendtner situation isn’t it, a player not deemed good enough by the manager who was keen to sell him and then at the last minute he pulled the plug because he lost out on Ba.. Not that I’m suggesting Bendtner is on the same playing level as Podolski, he’s not. I feel sorry for Lukas Podolski, he wants to play football but despite Wenger insisting that he’s staying, I seriously doubt he’ll play much.

Both Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil have been on the end of some cruel stuff in the media for a while now. Wilshere in the summer for his smoking and Ozil because, well I’m not really sure why but perhaps it’s because he cost the club £42 million and this couch potato experts think he should be doing better. Perhaps it’s just because he’s world class and those buffoons don’t like Arsenal having such gifted players!

Robbie Savage came out in defence of Jack Wilshere after the Besiktas match:

Suddenly, it has become the easiest game in town to jump on the bandwagon, pick holes in Wilshere’s performances for Arsenal and hammer him for every mistake.

Sorry. I’m not having that.

I thought he was magnificent in the two games against Besiktas – although Sanchez took the headlines for scoring the all-important goal, it was Wilshere’s persistence that set it up. I hope Wilshere’s most vocal critics will lay off him. I will not be criticising him just to conform with other people’s opinions. I am not going to be a negative pundit for the sake of it.

If Arsenal reach the later stages of the Champions League this season, I’m sure their knowledgeable fans will remember Wilshere’s role in getting them past first base.

Good on you Robbie, perhaps a few Arsenal fans could follow suit, yes, including me..

Yesterday, Arsene Wenger defended Mesut Ozil:

People are very harsh with Ozil because he’s a player who’s always very easy on his play but when you watch the game again after, the next day, you see what a player he is. Everything he does is intelligent. The timing of everything he does is absolutely perfect. You never catch him giving the ball too late.

The number of players you catch giving the ball too late is unbelievable. You never get that with Ozil. The timing, he’s like a guy who plays the music, the timing of what he does is perfect, you don’t get many players like that.

He is not getting enough praise. He came back as a World Cup winner. He played all seven games [during the tournament] and he played some good games.

Play the guy central, stick a top striker ahead of him and I’m sure the whole world will agree but all the time he is played out of position and not able to do what he does best, the world will forever be on his back. We all know Mesut Ozil is a world class player, just as Alexis Sanchez is but they can create all the chances they like but who can guarantee that one of Joel Campbell or Yaya Sanogo will take them?

I guess we’ll just have to carry on hoping that Aaron Ramsey is lurking in the box…..

Mesut himself is full of confidence:

It is important to remember that we won the FA Cup and that’s given us a lot of confidence. Arsenal can win the Premier League.

I doubt it Mesut, not with this squad………..

That’s it for another day….

Well written rico shame arsene just won’t listen. Why bother spend 42 million quid on the best no 10 in the world if you re gonna play an injury prone young inexperienced striker like sanogo in front of him. How does that I still confidence? We have always been 3 players short of a cracking team but as always we never get them. Now I hear campbell is off to benfica. God help me. Morning HH.

  2. rogerbij says:

No ideas of Remy for support either… heading to Chelsea it looks. Good enough for them, not good enough for us? hmmm

  3. Joywedsjeff says:

    Morning all…
As it stands, we’ve done a like for like business and brought in a striker Alexis to play with Walcott upfront as plan A even if Giroud was healthy.. Personally i expect one player in. A cb/dm hybrid. Is this good enough? No is the answer but i’ll support the team as will most fans.
Ozil has not done any preseason in two years. We need to be patient with him imo.

  4. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning guys.
    Relax.
    Watch what unfolds.
    Meanwhile, was unleash on Leicester.
The pressure if CL is off, and a few boys had a rest, so we should be ready to rock.

  5. Joywedsjeff says:

    Goonster
yep no Falcao. Considering who his agent is. Jose has just given Torres out for the remainder of his contract with Chelsea and he is about to get Remy or nobody. He will pay Mino Raiola to keep Him away from us if we were interested to begin with.

  6. goonster says:

Morning joy but don’t the falcao have the final say where he wants to go. Maureen can fart dust but I’d falcao wants to join us there’s nothing he or his agent can do about it. Am a very patient guy. I ll wait this one out. If campbell is off then something big is coming. I have faith. COYFGS

  7. Lee says:

I’ve a feeling that Falcao is more than just a pipe dream…..
If and it’s a big if we need more than just him to be really competitive.

  8. southyorkshiregunner says:

For years I raved about Bergkamp, Lee, whilst with Ajax and with Inter. I never ever thought a player like that would come to Arsenal – but he did. Never say never.
Arsenal is “The Arsene Wenger Show”. If he wants him – he’ll get him. He certainly needs him of that there is no doubt.

  9. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. Wenger’s press conference yesterday showed me that he is still giving it large over other people’s opinions. He says they are often wrong and of course he is right, but wasn’t his opinion that we had the right squad to win about 40 trophies over the last decade? So, it turns out that even a genius can also be wrong.

  10. Lee says:

We’ve got plenty of ammo for a good striker…..think how many goals a Wrighty or Henry would score for us?

  11. Scott from Oz says:

    Giroud scores 18-20.
Has more than a few assists, so is not greedy.
Misses plenty of bloody decent opportunities.
    Thierry would bang 35 in.

  12. Lee says:

100% agree….why can’t le stubborn one see it? Will it stifle Sanogo’s career? Doubt it he’s a fucking postman!

  13. Scott from Oz says:

Lee, IMO, Wengers biggest problem is his relentless pursuit of perfection, and that means winning while playing beautiful football, and making money.
It seems to me he just wants to win the League once HIS way so he can thumb his nose at everyone.
No doubt it’s to the detriment of the fans and the club….well, except the muppets up top.

  14. Danish Gooner says:

This is absurd,Manure have just taken their summer spending past 150 million pounds without having a single penny in their bank account and we are procrastinating over this and that also ran player with 170 mil in the bank.

  15. Adam says:

Scott. Apart from the first half against Napoli last year it has been a long time since I saw us play beautiful football.

  16. Adam says:

I see no evidence of that myself Scott. He makes no allowance for any team we are playing against. It has all looked like a bit of a struggle to me for ages. The balance of Wenger’s teams over the past few years has been lop sided. I think that his past has overshadowed the present reality and that the game has changed a lot since the years when he had that real sparkle and drive. Mind you, I am only going on the evidence of the past several seasons. Some excellent players but no real balance, especially against the big challenges. Exceptions for sure, like the incredible win against Barcelona at the Emirates and a few others but the trend has been toward pragmatism rather than flair for me.

  17. Luznic says:

Howdy Stan……..Falcao makes his own decision but why he would choose Arsenal is what I am trying to understand

  18. Scott from Oz says:

Adam, I never suggested he was succeeding, just that, IMO, he wants to win but with everything done HIS way.
We have little spurts of brilliance, but it never last more than a minute or so at a time.
Still, I say that’s what he’s trying for, but in no way has he been even close of late.

  19. Adam says:

Scott. I agree and as the years have passed the goal must have seemed even further away and people like Wenger deal with that challenge in the way we have seen. As I said, yesterday’s press conference was striking but hardly surprising. Still, be careful what you wish for eh?

  20. dublingunner says:

Morning all. a true stat i dug out last night
Falcao has scored two goals from two shots on target so far this season for Monaco.
    thats says it all,
Monaco are in financial difficulty as we know, hence selling james rodriques, and now
looking to offload Falcoa off there books. Could it be that wiley old fox Wenger new this was
coming. and refused to buy a striker in january, knowing this opportunity would arise.

  21. Adam says:

And a CB Scott and probably a specialist wide man. Even then you would have to play each player in the position where they are most effective.

  22. Scott from Oz says:

Adam, that is an absolute given…….again, Arsene almost trying to show everyone he knows better.
CB I’m not quite so stressed about.
If we get the other two sorted then yes…..

  23. rico says:

    I might be wrong Syg.

But weren’t City handed a restriction on their spending this summer after breaching FFP?

    Surely they couldn’t afford Falcao…

  24. rico says:

I like your theory too dublin… lol

    Lee, that’s simply cruel… 😉

Scott, my thought is if we sign a DM, Chambers will stay in defence, if we sign a defender, Chambers may just fill the DM role.

Of course it shouldn’t be that way as we have enough money to sign in both positions and a striker…

  25. Adam says:

But Scott an injury to Merts or Kos or even both and we are deep in it. Definitely a CB for sure. Even Wenger said we needed one. 🙂

  26. Gonerjoe says:

Morning all this Falco thing just wont go away but why would he come to Arsenal.
Money maybe not as much as he would get at other clubs but he won’t go broke.
    London
There are some players at Arsenal that would make Falco look very good.
I know some people won’t like this but to play under Wenger not just me saying this it’s our new players.
    Oh yes it’s Arsenal

  27. Scott from Oz says:

Chambers and from the bit I saw of Nacho showed they can do a decent job.
Then again, Nacho is busy ATM at LB so I will go with you.

  28. Scott from Oz says:

Joe, Wenger is still seen as one of the very best managers In The world by players, and opposition fans.

  29. southyorkshiregunner says:

Why wouldn’t Falcao come to Arsenal. He joined Monaco from Athletico Madrid. Neither are any better than Arsenal.

Ozil, Sanchez are two of the worlds most gifted players.

A team packed full of internationals.

  30. Adam says:

I agree Scott. You really need a settled spine through the middle and your flair players to make the difference which is why Ozil seems so wasted wide left. I like width, especially on the bigger pitches but a proper wide man could be great.

  31. BT62 Gooner says:

Syg, your 10:57 Ahmed, forgot to mention his agent is pushing hard, for RM…But Perez is unsure, because he doesn’t want to destabilise, his beloved Bale, CR7 and Benzema combo.

  32. Luznic says:

SYG I would choose Arsenal too, but it always looks like one club ready to give everything will snatch that player, I will be so happy to the extent of fainting if he signs but I am a skeptic on this case and its just that I don’t want to get my hopes up and allow le prof to dash it as Falcao is a top top top quality striker

  33. dublingunner says:

I think city buying mangala took there spend to 49 million, thats the cap they were given by u.e.f.a. so they,d definitely have to offload players, plus there restricted to only 21 players in europe,so they already have to leave out 1 or 2 of their foreign players, because they,ve to play at least 5 home grown players.

  34. rico says:

Scott, Barca was all about signing kids I think rather than breaching FFP..

Morning Bt, thanks. I did too, had to laugh otherwise I’d cry…

  35. BrainwashedKev says:

Carvalho, Reus, Cavani, Podolski even, I reckon that there’s still a few suprise’s due in this TW.
Not sure if Arsenal will be involved unfortunately….

  36. El Tel 1 says:

    Cavani or Falcao?

    Reuss or the Torino player?

    Rabiot or Carvalho?

    Popolopodopolus or Arbeloa?

We are pro ably in for all these players but as Wenger syas it is a game of poker.

I reckon it will end up dissapointing with Wellbeck,Song and some unknown Stepanovs type CB coming in.

  37. El Tel 1 says:

I would be very excited if we signed Reuss,Khadeira and Cavani. I would even accept a Stepanovs type CB too.

  38. reversat says:

sold cambell, poldi, akpong mean cavani or falcao for free ,once again the magic hat !! who beilive in wengerout???? no body!!!! no more !!!! arsen is a magician !!in arsene everybody trust!!!!

  39. El Tel 1 says:

Remember Wenger has very close ties with Monaco. Falcao is not out of the question.

Falcao will probably also remember the way Arsenal fans cheered him on at the Emirates Cup matches.

Also Arsenal good enough for DB10 and TH14. Why would other great strikers be too good for our great Club?

  40. frednerk says:

Syg..that is the reason why Falcao would like a move to us,
    Ozil and Sanchez..if it’s on.

The manc’s have just bought another leftback,Danny Blind thats 3 for now.

  41. frednerk says:

Kev..Always the same with wenger Khadira wants to come to us,and be with his mate,Real want to mug us and wenger wants to mug them and they know it,so will just move on to the next one.
wenger done that to the french lad a couple years ago,he ended up in russia not heard about him since.

  42. bondex says:

Good afternoon all. Great post rico,it seems we all have to wait till the last minute of this transfer window before we can truely assess our chances this season.Getting falcaoa and at least a CB might get us there.

  43. naked goon says:

Pundit – from Sanskrit- Pandit = Wise, learned man.
I think Robbie Savage is in the super optimistic category if he thinks he qualifies as one, positive or negative. The same goes for the others who masquerade as the great informed.

Mesut really IS one of the world’s best no 10s. I think he is just reminding Arsene of that fact.

  44. naked goon says:

I reckon we should all copy the first paragraph from this post and paste it on every spuds blog today, just in case they forgot.

  45. Joaquim Moreira says:

toots signed Stambouli yestreday. For me, was a player we need for DM ans central back. Not expensve

  46. Scott From Oz says:

    I’m back 🙂
    BT, that’s a tough question.
I’ve always said Wenger is no great tactician…..even when we were winning everything, you just put those guys out on the pitch and they did the rest.
He’s assembled a very decent, though thin, squad at present.
What other top class manager would take it on without the promise of more signings though?
If we fill a few positions with quality players, we are capable of beating anyone on a given day, whether Arsene is in charge or not.
As it stands, with our obvious shortcomings, could anyone do better?
    Maybe, maybe not.
The question is why should ANY manager at Arsenal right now have to cope with a thin squad.

  47. Scott From Oz says:

SYG, what a pity but good on Song…..he’s worked hard to better himself and play for such a big club 🙂

  48. Gonerjoe says:

BT 62 no shopping heading to the ship for the cruise no free wifi bloody hell first world problems. 🙂

  49. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Nice one Scott.

I love the fact that the ‘big fckung I am’ tried it and failed.

just because Wenger persevered with shite doesn’t mean shite is good. Shite is always shite. And it stinks.

Song stunk the place out at both Arsenal and Barca and the latter couldn’t wait to get rid.

Lazy, petulant and with delusions of grandeur.

West Ham are at his level. They’ll be good for each other. I wonder if they want Sanogo?

  50. agirlagunner says:

Lol on United, Scott. 🙂 Can’t stop laughing.

Choose your own gravatar, Scott. I was fairly familiar with the old alien ones, so I could tell who was posting, there are too many triangles now. Soo weird. Haha. I hope no one gets to be “square”. 😀

  51. agirlagunner says:

Scottie, just create a wordpress account with the email address you customarily use, and then there will be a prompt that would allow you to upload your photo of choice.

  52. Joywedsjeff says:

LVG will soon run out of excuses. They are yet to play any of last season’s top ten.
Falcao not in Monaco’s squad for tonight’s game. Chelsea have bid for Remy. Can i begin to dream?

  53. agirlagunner says:

The Pre-Season One must be livid, this is just a supremely clueless United side, BT. Fergie created this mess– and he is adored by all of United… Not that I care, of course…

  54. BT62 Gooner says:

Agag, so true, Fergie left a squad in a mess and a club lacking direction. He gave them Moyes and they still want, to wipe his arse for him…lol

  55. Adam says:

Oh sorry BT. I can’t imagine why but for some reason I thought that’s where you were based.
I would have dropped by otherwise. 🙂

  56. BrainwashedKev says:

Fred, my expectations this Window are lower than a snakes belly…

Not sure that I’ll even bother listening to the deadline on the radio this year..

  57. agirlagunner says:

Scott, yay!!! 🙂 Much, much, better than that purple thingie. 😛

Hello, Adam, it was a cool day in Manila, for a change. 🙂

    Hello, Kev, you’re a pink diamond. 🙂 🙂 A girl’s best friend! 😉

  58. Adam says:

Kev your avatar looks like you’ve been chloroformed. 😉
BT. That is very kind of you and I appreciate it. One day I very much hope. 🙂

  59. BrainwashedKev says:

    Adam 😆

The last couple of days are a blank… 😉

How are ya going Agag, New Bond Street would have you in a spin buddy…
    It’s shopping heaven… 😀
They also have a massive branch of Victorias Secret…

  60. agirlagunner says:

Adam, yes. 😛 That is cool by our standards. If you guys have some wind chill factor, we have a humidity “realfeel”, and that makes it always hotter, unfortunately.

BT, I have a short temper, but yeah, I’m generally a happy girl. 🙂

    Wavy, you’re square. 😆

Kev, you know me, I’m back to shoe shopping ways, Giuseppe Zanotti is set to open a store here, woot!! I went to the mall earlier for brunch with friends and it was dinnertime when we called it a day. Tsk tsk.

  61. Joaquim Moreira says:

And Remy is a Chelsea player (Mourinho said the day before yesteday, that the market was close for Chelsea)

  62. rico says:

Funny how Remy is fit for Chelsea but not Liverpool…

I saw that too Bt, hope he has a cracking season for the Dons…

  63. BrainwashedKev says:

Agag, you should never rush a brunch, especially in the Mall…

Good to see you back on form… 😉

  64. Sukky says:

    Chelsea scored,35s.Costa †̥ђƺ goal scorer,Fabregas †̥ђƺ provider.Wenger make a huge mistake with cesc.

  65. agirlagunner says:

I always did say, Cesc is truly extraordinary. 😉 But he left us on a lurch, and to have allowed him to return was to hold Jack back. 😀 (If I keep saying it, I might believe myself. Power of suggestion and all that. 😀 😀 )

Hello, rico. 🙂 🙂 HI, JM.How are your hols? GDNA and Sukky how are you?

  66. Gunnerdna says:

Ag, I’m good, just enjoying Lord Fabregas giving the manager with the fucked up hair line mental problems. lol

  67. Micko says:

    Evening all,

Burnley fans apparently not happy dropping points at home to teams around them, hilarious stuff.

Kev, a diamond geezer with high blood pressure, hardly surprising.

BT62, you no interest in the Gaelic football, cracking game.

  68. Gunnerdna says:

Adam, kool, i thought you have genuine connect at the club. The silence on incoming transfers are deafening, i’m wondering if these games are watched by the manager.

  69. agirlagunner says:

rico, it’s a different sort of headache; working for a foreign company is haha-funny; the things that get lost in translation is always cause for amusement, bemusement, headache. 😉

GDNA and Adam, I can’t shake the feeling that another big signing is coming along.

Kev, it was shop, lunch, talktalktalk, tea, shop. 😀 😀

Hey, Mick. 🙂 Does your goldfish have any predictions for deadline day signings?

  70. Adam says:

Gdna. Holidays have cruelly intervened with the usual flow of info I’m afraid. I do know the club were in for a ‘ big’ player several weeks back but the plug was pulled when finances got in the way.

  71. Micko says:

Sorry agag but during the transfer windows my goldfish aren’t that very well furnished in the brain department for some unknown reason, bit like some-one I know.

  72. agirlagunner says:

rico, not you. You write Englishy stuff everyday. 😛 RvP has become a journey man. 😕

    Mick, you mean AW? 😀

  73. rico says:

I do agag, but I’m not that good at it all… 😉

Didn’t we all know that Falcao would end up there?

    Cavani it is then… 😆

  74. potter says:

Costa is the new Suarez of the PL,

Drogba mk 2. Funny what a top top striker gives you , even if he is shit.

  75. rico says:

Did anyone on here actually say Costa is shit?

I’m not so sure they did, just a few, including me, didn’t think he’d fit into our style of play…

However, right now he is on good form which is bloody annoying….

  76. goonster says:

3.6 huh? I fear for arsenal then. They didn’t have costa and fiberglass last year yet thumped us 6.0. Wonder what the score ll be this time and trust me maureen ll love to make it 19.0 against wenger just to prove a point. God help us. Am quivering in fear. Afternoon guys.

  77. goonster says:

Hey rico, potter I didn’t see the game but please can you allay my fears and tell me the score line flattered chelshit. That they weren’t imperious like tthe result suggests. God help me. Am having a panic attack.

  78. potter says:

I only listened to it on the car radio but it seemed that they just rolled Everton’s defence with ease. Seeing as how last week we struggled for 80 minutes against the same team it doesn’t bode particularly well. However Terry and Cahill were being criticised by the commentators and Maureen even went on the pitch to remonstrate with them apparently.

  79. goonster says:

Lord God in heaven I see maureen going unbeaten this season. He’s after arsene’s record. He wants it. With the nancs stuttering and arsenal not up to gear I fear they ll run away with it.

  80. rico says:

Chelsea won’t go unbeaten goonster, chill out, the season is just 3 games old..

Let’s just see what happens over the nest two days before stressing…

  81. Gunnerdna says:

Rico, what if nothing happens over the next two days, are you gonna tell us it will happen in January? lol

  82. goonster says:

Rico 3 games 3 wins and they still haven’t moved up a gear. I fear for us. Maureen ll want to humiliate us again. I feel sick to my stomach
Why did dick pound sell out to oblomovich??? My life haven’t been the same since this short cuss warm the English channel. He haunts me even in my dreams. Laughing at my karma as I pass the pearly gates. God help me. Gosh I hate mourinho….grrrrrr.

  83. rico says:

Gdna, I find your comment rather stupid really. When have I ever said or suggested such a thing?

I am as pissed off as anyone else on here and you know it! Our signings should have been done and dusted long before now. I just hope that something good comes our way in the next two days. Don’t you??

Or do you hope they don’t so you can feel justified in banging the same boring drum about Arsene Wenger??

  84. goonster says:

Bt you kidding right??? Dna don’t forget striker too. Diego Costa looks more at home in the epl than la liga. Christ help me. Who was that on here that said he was shit??? He looks like he’s been on that chelshit team since the dead sea was alive. I feel my nausea rising. Somebody help me. They are gonna humiliate us again. Oh God in heaven give me strength. I can’t take another 6.3 5.1 6.0. I just cant. Arggghhh.

  85. Gunnerdna says:

Rico, did u notice i use lol. There wasn’t any malice to the comment. I don’t have to justify anything about AW, i’m just critical of a manager who is a continuous failure and is incompetent, the banging of boring drum comment just proves its a fact.

  86. rico says:

Ok Gdna, just thought for a minute that i’d become some kind of AW lover, when you should know by now that I am not.

What started great this summer is on the verge of being a disastrous ending..

  87. potter says:

Gdna , it actually shows that it’s your opinion . I tend to agree with a lot of your points although my criticism of him is more tactical than anything else.

  88. goonster says:

Lord God I just saw the movement for their first two goals. This guys ll rip us to shreds with arsene always pushing his wing backs up the pitch they ll kill us. Fabregas is the best in the business for over the top pass. Remember the one he sent to lord punk boots against Slavia Prague or the one against poop which van herpes scored. The same game Alonzo broke his foot. God help me maureen ll humiliate us again. He’s rubbing his hands together in glee. Christ. I think I just shit myself. Look at my hands shaking and eyes twitching. Somebody help me. Am losing my wits.

  89. Gunnerdna says:

Potter, its a fact that AW is a failure & incompetent. 10 season without a PL title & 17 seasons in the CL with 1 final appearance. Forget about signings when was the last time we look convincing on the field?

  90. goonster says:

Which is why I winder why we all clamor for signings and put ourselves through this season after season. Only arsene wenger ll buy the world best no 10 and play him on the wings. We need a striker before OG’s injury now he’s injured yet he thinks sanogo and sanchez can fill his boots. I ll love to see sanchez in January against stoke at the brittania.

  91. goonster says:

This is the Same man that never believes theo could play up top now after an injury to our top striker he cites Walcott as another who can play up top. I mean seriously? ?

  92. potter says:

Gdna , I will give your comments a degree of credence if you look at cold hard statistical fact. However he can only be called incompetent if you believe that his remit from his bosses is to actually win things. If as I believe his instructions do not encompass cups and trophies but are related to profit against outlay , then he has not failed to meet his target. I do however consider him to be a coward because I would not accept a job that did not strive for being the best. As an ex player I only played to win ,I can’t see that he should allow himself to settle for second best.
His tactics are another thing, in those, the word failure fits in my mind. Players should be flexible enough to switch formations at any given time in his style everything is choreographed even to the timing of his substitutions . His system worked when he had a team with 6 or 7 superstars that could switch things around at the drop of a hat. Currently he wants to mould lesser players into his system instead of altering his play to suit the strengths of the players he has.

  93. goonster says:

Am hurt dna wenger is a great man by all accounts. He’s well respected and I envy his persona. He carries himself with dignity and pride. I like that and covets it. He’s been through thick and thin with us. Yes he transformed us from an ordinary club to a global super power. Arsenal is known the works over. Check this out….chelsea won the epl and at their trophy parade in London could only muster 60000 fans….arsenal won the da cup and 250000 fans showed up. What does that tell you. Am saddened to see him like this. I used to love this man but he’s pushed me so far to the wall that I can barely say his name without tasting bile in my mouth. He’s a shadow of himself. So sad.

  94. goonster says:

I stayed up all night last night cause brianna was being herself….drama queen . lol. I logged on my YouTube account and watched the unbeaten season. I shed a tear each time we broke away in numbers and score at the other end. It was sheer brilliance. That was wenger at his best he left his opponents sprawling in the dust what happened to him? Where did it all go wrong for him?? From Henry Bergkamp Pires ljunberg and paddy v to yaya sanogo shitvestre skilless shit gerwanko and Andre Santos! Sometimes I pinch myself and wonder if he’s the same man or did some aliens abduct the real arsene wenger. It’s so sad.

  95. goonster says:

Thanks jm I have el globo. I should catch the superliga then but wasn’t he suspended for this match. I read somewhere he got sent off last weekend.

  96. Gunnerdna says:

Potter, I agree. lol. But this season according to the club they are in a better financial situation to compete and its the same thing as the previous 10 yrs, its just not adding up to the hard statistical facts. I see this manager as a man who is scared to fail in order to avoid being question.

  97. Gunnerdna says:

Goon, he should have walked away with the FA Cup, i respect him as a persons but not his actions, arguments like this is 1 of the many reasons i’m not his biggest fan:

“We live in a society of opinions. People are better informed today – many of them are even better informed than I am! All the opinions do not necessarily mean that people are right. Everybody is entitled to have an opinion but that doesn’t necessarily mean that their opinion is right. In fact, many opinions have been wrong in the past [and] people have never come out and said ‘sorry, I was wrong’. The easiest thing to do is have an opinion.”

Have you ever heard AW admit he got it wrong?

  98. Nashua gunner says:

Can someone please tell me, because I seem to forget, how many years Mancity went without winning the EPL?

And while you are at it, can you please tell me how many managers are there at the EPL?

  99. Micko says:

Nash, did you see Song being paraded before the game at west ham today, I dare any gooner to say they didn’t shed a tear, even I was welling up, very emotional, he could of been a contender !!!

  100. BrainwashedKev says:

Falcao was always a bit of a pipe dream…

Quality player, but the financial package was mental…
He wasn’t worth £20m for just one season…

Apparently Arsenal have matched Chelsea’s bid for Loic Remy.

  101. NashuaGunners says:

Micko. To be honest, I’ve no sympathy for Song even though all the facts are not known about the way he left. Ungrateful players I shed no tear for. What did he achieved with short spell with Barc.

  102. NashuaGunners says:

Kev. I said it the other day, 20m for just one season? Why don’t we pay the 60m instead for 4 seasons.

  103. Micko says:

Loic remy kev, would rather staple my tongue to the floor ! Fcuk me shouldn’t we be aiming higher than that, the chav’s are welcolme to him, no disputing arsene is an intelligent man, surely he must have something up his sleeve.

  104. BrainwashedKev says:

Looks like he has Remy up his sleeve Mick..

I’m like you, underwhelmed by the prospect of Remy.
But nicking him from under the arrogant hooter of Abramovitch would have a enjoyable feel to it, coming on the heels of them releasing Torres…

  105. BrainwashedKev says:

Nasher, £60m for Falcao is a bit too steep mate…

BT, it was a nice thought, and I was hopeful that Wenger might get him with a more realistic fee, but the Petrodollar mob must have been all over him as well…

    C’est la vie mate

  106. NashuaGunners says:

Micko say “…no disputing arsene is an intelligent man,…” while other says ‘he is incompetent.’

I’m lost, people please make up your minds

  107. BrainwashedKev says:

Mick, tbh, I couldn’t give a fcuk if he joins us or not…

Like you, I never really rated him that highly.
Just found the thought of getting one over P Prick appealing…

    Night All

  108. Wavy says:

Yeh, Song could have been a contender, but he wasn’t! Why? Because he was/is a knob!
His violent act in the WC should be enough to condemn him.
All the arguments have been very well rehearsed on here, and not extolling his virtues!
We made an unbelievable profit when we sold him, got far more than he was worth, and we should be grateful he is no longer a gunner. He may well achieve leg end status but he will never, ever be a legend. No, I’ve convinced myself, he is a knob!

  109. potter says:

BTW Nashua , you can only count City’s success in the post Mansour period . Their record in that is 2 league titles in 5 seasons.

  110. Micko says:

Kev, hows about a half way meet with Benzema, granted an average french bottler but still better than what we have ! to all those saying we should be patient back in june it’s gone way past that stage now, we need to get down on our knee’s and pray !

  111. BT62 Gooner says:

Kev, to true mate, nice but never realistic, as for Remy.. i just don’t know, leaves me a bit numb, to be honest…

  112. NashuaGunners says:

Potter. 2 league titles in 5 seasons, how much those 2 titles cost them?

And how much those it cost Arsenal for 10 seasons without a title?

  113. NashuaGunners says:

This is what it cost them for 2 league titles…

Manchester City’s £930 million spending spree to turn club into Premier League title contenders
Exclusive: Manchester City have spent £930.4 million turning themselves into Premier League title contenders, a special Telegraph Sport survey of English football’s finances has revealed.

  114. Micko says:

Kev, I know mate, nite me ole mucker.

Yes BT, on the border with those shaggers from limerick.

Wavy, did we not have first option on song, if so it’s unforgiveable !

  115. Wavy says:

Yeh, we did, have a clause foe song, it was entitled, “It’s a long way to Tipperary” and that’s where he should probably be right now, eating Nachos!
Incidentally, I loved Tipperary when I visited it last year!

  116. NashuaGunners says:

The ways other clubs spend and still can’t make Top 4, make methink AW is a Genius. Some say the man is incompetent. wow

That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t buy what we need… No excuse whatsoever…

  117. Micko says:

Haha wavy, we’re both singing from the same hymn sheet ! Personally tipperary’s a bit too close for my liking, I would have sent him to coventry !

Nite Gooners, over land and sea tomorrow.

  118. NashuaGunners says:

The study has uncovered that in the 2010-11 season:
    • Top-flight clubs spent £2.51 billion in cash, which was £285.8 million more than they earned.
    • The Premier League generated £2.23 billion of income, which equates to 0.148 per cent of the entire output of the UK economy.
    • Clubs spent almost £400 million on signings after player sales.
    • Wages for players and staff cost clubs £1.52 billion.
    • Premier League clubs’ net debt was £1.39 billion, costing them £97.2 million in debt-interest payments.
    • City’s spending loomed large in the results for the league as a whole.
Between 2008, when Abu-Dhabi-based oil magnate Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al-Nahyan bought them, and the end of last season, the club’s total cash outlay was £930.4m, of which only £365.3m was generated from their own operations.
The remainder – £565.1m – had to be supplied by Mansour, the club’s billionaire benefactor.
That figure will have risen significantly over the course of the current season, although the exact final cost of winning the league will only be known when the next accounts are published in 2013.
Last summer, the club spent a further £53.6m net on new arrivals, which will be reflected in those accounts, although they also secured a sponsorship deal with Etihad Airways which was reported to be worth £400m.
When the gap between their income and expenditure peaked in the 2009-10 season, City were spending £3.04 for every £1 they earned, figures that show the battle they face to meet the “break-even requirement” of Uefa’s new rules.
Telegraph Sport’s survey uses the accounts of 19 of the 20 clubs who were in the Premier League last season.
Birmingham have been omitted because they have not met their statutory requirement to file accounts, which has led to the Football League issuing them with a transfer embargo.
This analysis gives supporters a clear picture of the health of their club’s finances and exposes to what extent they rely on the support of benefactors such as Mansour or Chelsea’s Roman Abramovich.
It may make alarming reading for fans of Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Everton and West Ham United, whose clubs have spent significantly more than they have earned.
Over the years Villa’s owner, Randy Lerner, and Bolton’s Eddie Davies, have shown a willingness to cover these costs, but would leave their clubs with major problems should they chose to stop doing so.
Blackburn and Everton, by contrast, have no such benefactor support to rely on, meaning they must sell players to close the gap between spending and income.
As Blackburn’s relegation has shown this season, those sales can have a severe, negative effect on results on the pitch.
The analysis also highlights some fascinating trends which challenge conventional ideas – not least that spending large sums on signing players can actually have a negative impact on final league position.
Previous studies have shown that a club’s league position tends to reflect their spending on wages. Telegraph Sport’s study suggests this to be accurate, so clubs which pay their players the most tend to finish highest in the league.
But, analysing the period between 2009 and 2011, it also found that clubs who spent greater sums than direct rivals on transfers actually suffered in the league.
West Ham, for example, spent a net £20 million on transfers over the two-year period, which put them among the top 10 spenders.
But it was not enough to buy them Premier League security. In 2009-10 they finished 17th, six places lower than their wage bill ranked; the following year, they were relegated despite their signings and a wage bill which was 12th highest in the league.
Among the elite clubs last season, Chelsea and City both spent more money than Manchester United and paid higher salaries than United, but it was Sir Alex Ferguson’s team who won the league.
The study also shows how some teams manage to prosper despite being ‘selling clubs’.
Wigan Athletic (£574,000 profit), Blackburn (£2.2 million) and Arsenal (£15.9 million) all made more money in the transfer market than they spent in 2009-2010, and yet all three finished higher than teams with bigger wage bills.
Chelsea did the ‘double’ that season and yet made a profit of £18.2 million on transfers.
Last season, Newcastle United over-achieved more than anyone in this regard, making £5.4 million in the transfer market and yet finishing six places higher than their wage bill indicated they would.
The figures point to how the club have skilfully identified talent at bargain prices while attracting big fees for selling players whose departures have not prompted a slump in the team’s form.
Manchester City have been the dominant force in the transfer market since Mansour’s takeover, which came two months into the 2008-09 season (Telegraph Sport’s financial analysis includes the short period in that year’s accounts under previous ownership).
In the first three years under Mansour, they spent £266 million cash on players after sales.
Over the same period the cumulative outlay on wages was £390 million, meaning City were spending on salaries alone more than their income, of £365.3 million, although the club would point to the £61.6 million they spent on the regeneration of area of Manchester in which they are based.
Barring any slip up against Queens Park Rangers this weekend, Mansour will have a Premier League trophy to show for his investment, but it will have come at a 10-figure cost.

  119. scottfromoz says:

    Morning all.
Yes, we should be aiming higher than Remy, but I’ll yell you this, if he’s what we are after, we’d better get him else we really will be up shit creek.
Arsene truly is playing with fire ATM.

  120. scottfromoz says:

First time posting using WordPress….not a fan lol.
Anyway, yes, we should be aiming higher than Remy, but what if we don’t even get him?
We really will be up shit creek.

  121. tsgh says:

My apologies to anyone my ‘bipolar’ comment offended.

    Thanks Rico and Wath…

Cerci and Arunguiz.. on their way. maybe

  122. Nashua gunner says:

I hold him responsible for not buying an individual completely different that would alternate with OG12 depending on whom we face. One that has that strikerish character that would drive fears into your opponent. But he let most of us down last season that should have known better.

But does that mean the man is incompetent? Stubborn maybe but not incompetent. Mancity have gone 30 years and some without winning the EPL until recently. With all the money spent they still have not pass the rounds of 16 in the UEFA Champions League let alone win it.
Some Arsenal supporters just think Arsenal has the RIGHT to win every single thing pertaining to football.

AW is not the problem; Silent Stan is the the problem.

  123. Lee says:

    That Costa is shit.
    We didn’t need Fabregas.
I’m in Spain where’s Cynthia or was it a fucking weirdo?!?!

  124. potter says:

I have no love for Kroenke or his group of sell out money grabbing acolytes aka the board. However i hold back on calling Wenger a genius because of his tactical flaws and inability to go head to head with more astute footballing managers.

  125. Scott From Oz says:

Who ever said Costa was shit?
I saw Rico asked but missed an answer.
    Potter, he’s a genius.
Maybe not a tactical genius, but he has done more than just manage a side on the pitch, so I wouldn’t judge him on that alone.
If we did, he’s average……I’ve always said he’s never been a great manager, tactically speaking.
    Morning everyone.
    Game day!!!!

  126. Adam says:

Morning Rico, Lee and Potter. The article posted earlier about PL’s club’s finances makes for interesting reading. I find that the problem with discussing Wenger is one of degree. If you believe that he has come up short in both equipping the squad adequately and tactically on the field then that is often taken to mean you are totally against him. Yet I have an admiration for both the manager he used to be and his consistency while still not liking his extraordinary arrogance or point blank refusal to accept what many see as obvious.
When you look at the PL finances, none of it makes for much in the way of common sense but I believe that Wenger turned a corner with free minded fans when he embarked on telling lies and misleading people a few years back. The prophesies he made and his embarrassing insistence regarding squad depth were exposed as either crass ineptitude or just plain porkies. Of the 40 trophies he predicted we would win in the last decade, we have won just one.
Nobody wants him to bankrupt the club. That assertion is as crass as the fools who make it, but all Arsenal fans want him to do his job properly and that isn’t 4th place finishes, regardless of the financial bounties they may unlock.

  127. frednerk says:

    Morning All,
Wenger has been told who to buy and what we need for season’s now, from every news paper, every pundit, little kids to old age pensioners,
yes we get away with it against the lesser teams and I know he wants to play like the barca team of a few years ago,
but this league against the big boy’s always finds us out.
All the 6 pointer’s we get thrashed away.

  128. George says:

Akpom , poldi and campbell will be gone by 1st of september and we will run Sanchez into the ground…

    Thats my biggest fear.

Miguel is off to norwich as Ryo off on loan to a dutch team for a year..

    Some squad in depth…

I will come out of retirement and get the predators out

  129. BrainwashedKev says:

Funny that, I always saw you, Adam, as a central midfielder, in the middle of the pitch, directing operations, lambasting the referee and correcting everyone’s grammar… 😛

  130. Scott From Oz says:

    Lee, fair enough……I missed that.
I’d have taken the little grubby goal scoring prick lol.
    Morning Adam, George.
    Are we winning today?

  131. BrainwashedKev says:

Whether we get Remy or not mate, it’s indicative of the second half of this transfer window and classic Wenger…

What’s he gonna do when Remy goes to Chelsea…???

Faff around trying to get a ‘Bendtner’ or Chamackh on loan?!

  132. Scott From Oz says:

Mate, I only shagged Liz once…she was crap.
I’ve never had plastic surgery, and could out drink that tosser any day of the week.
My wrong’un is dodgy though….bad shoulder, and all 🙂

  133. frednerk says:

We all new did’nt we 31st august,
wenger sharpens his pencil, chargers up switches on his mobile, and starts pulling that stupid face of his.like his got a rabbit up his sleeve.
Lets all hope we don’t here that stupid statement from him again.

We tried to get this one and that one.but just run out of time.

  134. rico says:

Morning Lee, Adam, Scott, Kev, Fred, George, Potter and all…..

Cynthia is in Spain, she got caught up in a situation which has now been resolved…

  135. Luznic says:

Costa is still shit because he plays for the chavs, I envy Chelsea for having cesc but do we miss him? NO, for all I care we can cry about players in other team but until we realize at the end of the tw we will still be supporting Arsenal then I guess we will appreciate the ones we got, I dislike Wenger, if it were to be for him I will stop following the Arsenal but I ignore him because his pressers are full of crap talk like his tactics, rather I find joy in watching Oezil, Sanchez and Ramsey play and I can’t wait to see Ospina between the sticks not forgetting Debuchy has got more stamina than Sagna, so Costa is shit has been and will always be and who is Cesc I never heard of him but I know an Oezil……Morning everyone

  136. Lee says:

Who’s crying about other players in other teams? I could cry that Wenger hasn’t bought what we need to compete! As for Costa & Fabregas they’d get in my starting 11 ahead of cnuts like Sanogo etc.
    Maybe it was Cynthia Payne?

  137. emma says:

    Good morning all,
    Matchday! COYG
I see Remy is looking for ways to increase his purse before joining the chavs. Doubt if we are in for him. I think its all agent talk feeding the media with bullsh*t

  138. Wavy says:

Remy is this years Demba Ba,
“We tried very ‘ard but we could not find any pliers of top top quality. So we go wiv what we’ve got”
    Same old, same old!

  139. emma says:

So far we’ve signed 4 players. 3 replacements(Callum for TV, Ospina for Fabianski and Debuchy for Sagna) and 1 new signing(alexis). There are 2 spaces left for Non-HG, hopefully we get a CDM and CB before the window closes 😉

  140. rico says:

    🙂 Lee, I hope not…

If AW goes and signs a striker, DM and CB in the next two days, who other sides have will not matter quite so much. The way Costa is going, he’ll be off and banned soon… 😉

    Morning Luznic and Bt..

  141. Scott From Oz says:

    Now they ARE there.
    What’s the go, everyone?
Since I’m now logging through WordPress, things disappear, then reappear……..it’s strange.
