Carrick was so close. Lacazette double and a recall for Leno..

Morning guys.

Well well, Alexandre Lacazette has not only scooped the Arsenal player of the month award but he’s nabbed the goal of the month one too. Good for him and utterly deserved. All we need now is for Unai Emery to pip the other three nominees for the EPL manager of the month and it’s possible if not probable.

‘We’ve got our Arsenal back’ – a little song the away fans were singing at Craven Cottage seems to have caused a stir. Perhaps it was tongue in cheek, perhaps and more likely imo was it down to watching our boys thump in five goals away from home. Seeing the players celebrating together, Lacazette racing to the sideline to hug his buddy, watching the team enjoying themselves again. Then there’s the manager, celebrating each goal as if he was one those in the stands rather than just a rise from his seat with a clap of his hands. There’s emotion running through the Spaniard, there’s happiness and it’s rubbing off on the players. It’s been a long time since our lot played with a smile on their faces but now they are.  Yes, we’ve got ou4 Arsenal back.

Sportsmen and women were born with a gift, a gift many of us would have liked to have. To be able to play a sport we love and excel at it. Getting paid for it is a massive bonus. Massive being the key word in many cases.  They should be enjoying themselves when they play whatever it is they’re good at otherwise what’s the point? Of course I don’t mean running around with a stupid grin on their faces all match but when something they attempt comes off, then be happy. Enjoy the moment then start all over again. Get back to the serious stuff.

It hasn’t always been like that though and certainly not in the last few years. Perhaps the last time was just after beating Chelsea in the FA Cup but since then, there’s not really been much to smile about. Not for the players and certainly not the fans. So why shouldn’t we all enjoy the way things have been going?

It’s a great shame the international break arrived when it did really but not all are away with their respective countries. Why Lacazette isn’t in the French squad beggars belief but carry on like he’s playing and it won’t be long before Deschamps will change that. I’m not fussed though selfishly because staying at home means it’s less likely he’ll get injured, just as will for the others who’ve remained at the club. The more they train with Unai Emery and his coaches, the more they’ll benefit.

So who is away on international duty and when are they playing?

Bernd Leno – Netherlands 13th and France 16th October.

Danny Welbeck – Croatia on Friday, October 12 and Spain on Monday, October 15.

Aaron Ramsey – Thursday, October 11 against Spain Republic of Ireland on Tuesday, October 16.

Sokratis – Hungary October 12th and Finland on Monday, October 15.

Granit Xhaka –  Belgium on Friday, October 10 and Iceland on Monday, October 15.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Gibraltar on Saturday, October 10 and Macedonia on Tuesday, October 16.

ACON’s

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – South Sudan on Friday, October 12 and Tuesday, October 16.

Alex Iwobi – Libya on Friday, October 12 and Monday, October 15.

Mohamed Elneny – Swaziland on Friday, October 12 and Tuesday, October 16.

Friendlies:

Lucas Torreira – Korea Republic on Friday, October 12 and Japan on Tuesday, October 16.

That’s ten players away, most of whom will get plenty of playing time I’d imagine. Maybe not Torreira, Welbeck or Leno though.

Lastly, we can add Michael Carrick to the long list of players who Arsene Wenger nearly signed. But for Cesc Fabregas, he would have. There’s an article in The Metro where the ex England international spills all.

Have a good one guys, it’s going to be a warm…

    Re :- yesterday’s post.

Merson is probably right although thrashing might be an over exaggeration as despite the fact that we will let in four or five goals chances are we will score a couple ourselves.
The question is how we react to the situation , whether the players drop into their shells and how Emery reacts with substitutes. That will show us more than just the loss of 3 points.

  2. rico says:

It’s highly likely we’ll lose at some stage because our defending still has a lot of improvements to be made but like you Potter, I think the term thrashing is rather harsh.

When Liverpool turn up next month, how Emery approaches the game will tell us a lot. He’d have done his homework I’m sure and will set out to stopping their front three from getting the ball. Emery is no fool that’s for sure.

At least we know he’ll prepare for the game and not just play his way regardless. I can see us beating Liverpool at home.

Morning all and thank you Rico.

Blimey !……………..more players on international duty than I realised, everything crossed !

Quite noticeable the way the boys are celebrating, more than just a team, more like a camaraderie brotherhood.

    Nice post rico, cheers.

We’ve got our Arsenal back. Lovely to hear that being sung at Craven Cottage.

Early days, but Emery is slowly sorting the team out. I love that he doesn’t stand on ceremony and plays who he thinks will perform and win the game. No prima dona’s with this Spaniard.

Not sure rico. I didn’t know much about I’m before he came to our wonderful Arsenal.

He’s given me my mojo back thats for sure.

I get the old buzz on match day mornings again.

I’ll be made up if we play in that yellow zig zag shirt again next year. I for one loved it.

Bruised banana , morning after , that shirt had a few names but it was distinctive . I’m too old for football shirts now but my grandkids might get one.

G’day to you all, Your line the other day Rico, one swallow not making a summer is very true but nine wins on the bounce with the sun shining certainly makes for a lovely early autumn.

You have to feel sorry for Cesc Fabregas, not only is he seemingly a permanent member of the Chelsea bench, but someone nicked his bike. A clever dick hacker got the bike supplier to allow him to change the security code and fingerprint recognition system on the £8,500 high tech, customized electric bike.

Fear not though, our gallant Metropolitan Police traced the thief, arrested him, recovered the bike and returned it to the grateful Spaniard. The Met can’t protect the Houses of Parliament, nor can they prevent a lone terrorist killing one of their own but by golly they can collar a bike thief.

    Winter is coming; be ready.

    Last year’s experience:

    8:00 a.m. I built a snowman.

8:10 A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn’t make a snow woman.

    8:15 So, I built a snow woman.

8:17 My feminist neighbor complained about the snow woman’s voluptuous chest saying it objectified snow women everywhere.

8:20 The gay couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it could have been two snow men instead.

8:22 The transgender ma..wom…person asked why I didn’t just build one snow person with detachable parts.

8:25 The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.

8:28 I am being called a racist, because the snow couple is white.

8:31 The Muslim gent across the road demands the snow woman wear a burka.

8:40 The Police arrive saying someone has been offended.

8:42 The feminist neighbor complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needs to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role.

8:43 The council equality officer arrived and threatened me with eviction.

8:45 TV news crew from the ABC shows up. I am asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I reply, “Snowballs?
I am now called a sexist.

9:00 I’m on the News as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobic sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.

9:10 I am asked if I have any accomplices.

My children are taken by social services.

9:29 Far left protesters offended by everything are marching down the street.

    Moral:

There is no moral to this story.
It’s just a view of the world in which we live today

  9. Le Coq Monster says:

That`s the problem nowadays, Cicero, one word out of place offending someone and you`ld have your Icicles squeezed !

Alway wondered why the Michael Carrick deal fell through now we know because of cesc. Surely they would have made a great partnership in the middle and he was only 3m unbelievable shows wenger was starting to lose it back then plus I thought it was 2005 not 2004 after we played chelsea in the charity shield he went to the spuds.
Harry was at Portsmouth and was not happy we scuppered the deal to them. I remember it well because I was gutted we did not get him.

  11. rico says:

Stevey, its a shame Wenger couldn’t fit Carrick into the team. Although I’m sure he could had he tried, who else did we have in midfield back then other than Cesc?

    Morning guys.
