‘Can’t wait to get to Arsenal’ – The Unai Emery effect underway..

Morning all.

Well well, shows what I know eh? Actually, it shows that perhaps all the words muttered in support of Arsene Wenger staying at the club longer were not quite as true as they were supposed to be. Aaron Ramsey, who I thought might be tempted to jump ship after the departure of the Frenchman, clearly has no thoughts about doing so. He’s excited, he can’t wait for pre-season to get going, he can’t wait to work under the new Arsenal regime. Rumour has it, he’s in talks over extending his contract. Anyway, that’s him, Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan who have spoken out. Aubameyang, if the quotes in the media are true, made it quite clear that he thought the club had stagnated. He’s right, well, imo anyway. Arsenal were like an apple which had fallen from the tree and left. Over the weeks it gradually turned from being something which looked appetising to eat, to being rotten to the core and ending up in the compost bin.

As the weeks go by, im sure we’ll hear from other players at Arsenal too as they look ahead to the new season and change. For so long now they’ve been going into training on a daily basis, knowing what to expect, what drills would take place along with the rest of it but now they’ve got no idea. Put yourself in their shoes, it must be a great feeling although perhaps for a few, a feeling of fear. How I’d love to be a fly on the fence around the training camp on that very first day and the days which followed….

Its kind of annoying that this change has taken place during a time of a World Cup tournament because our boys could have done with a full pre-season under Unai Emery and his team but it is what it is.

Talking of the training, details of the Spaniards new coaching team has been leaked, or made up, whichever turns out to be correct, but this is what’s being reported. ESPN have an article about them if you’re interested.

Goalkeeping coach Javi Garcia, together with assistants Juan Carlos Carcedo and Pablo Villanueva are to make up his team. Physical trainer Julen Masach and video analyst Victor Manas will also join Emery’s staff.

Whats next for Robert Pires, Steve Bould and Jens Lehmann remains to be seen.

So it’s all falling into place or at least it seems to be. All we need now though is the World Cup to get going, the countries whom our players representative to get knocked out and then come July, they’re all back at Arsenal fighting fit, healthy and raring to go.

Simples eh.

Absolutely 3 years Kelsey, I totally agree, for me it’s so refreshing to see us under a new management regime.
Although I’m not sure that the Twitter generation will be as patient unfortunately.
And of course the click-bait sites pick up on that negativity and run with it to create a fcuked up atmosphere around the club.
Fortunately being from the press button A or B generation I don’t go on Twitter and I don’t honestly think that I’m missing too much intellectual inspiration by not doing so…

Morning all and thank you Rico.

Not sure we have as many players going to WC as the other top 6 teams……………….only one with England and I dont think Danny will get much playing time, maybe from bench.
Ozil with Germany……………………………I`m struggling now !

I agree with most at the moment that Dick will probably need a couple of years, although I genuinely believe we cant be worse than last year and I expect top 4 minimum for the reasons of………………..not many players at WC and no CL football !
As said yesterday though I`m disappointed by rumoured signings and hope Dick comes up with something more to get us fans excited………………………I`m afraid we are in the age of wanting instant success and who can blame when the likes of Chav owner changes his managers quicker than he changes his underwear……………….if the owners of the big 3 expect instant success, then why shouldn`t we.

My birthday today and sharing it with Eddie Nketiah……………………..if I wasn`t white and 43 years older than him we could be mistaken for twins !……………………………………………….I got an Arsenal card and it`s signed by Arsene !………………………no Dick for me !
    🙂

  3. Le Coq Monster says:

Just had a look…………………………..only Ospina, Xhaka, Iwobi, Monreal, Elneny, Ozil and Welbeck.

Elneny must still be coming back from injury……………………..Ospina I dont give a shit about, so it`s only Ozil, Xhaka and Iwobi who will probably feature reguarly.

Cicero said the same Lc, not so many will be playing during the summer although I think there are other matches going on which will involve our players. Under 21’s have a tournament too.

Have to say that I am twitterless too and I will keep it rhat way .
We have a new broom and all remains of Wenger’s empire will be swept away. Only per will survive as coach to non first-teamers. I know that many didn’t rate him but he got his 100 caps with Swienstieger and Khedira in front of him the likes of which Wenger never provided.
Emery will do his own thing and will take a couple of years to execute his plan, so those wanting an immediate run of success may well be disappointed. Still Rico is right the training drills will be different and it already seems to be sparking the interest of the squad.Soo things are looking Hopefully..

  6. Cicero says:

Happy Birthday Le Coq ??? As a white, middle-aged male you are becoming an irrelevance in today’s feminist, diversity obsessed society, but don’t let it get to you, go and have a pasty and a pint and enjoy your birthday. ?

Good post Rico btw, I’ve just been polishing my windows, they’re sparkling now… ?

Strange as it seems Cocker, I’m not too fussed about high profile signings, what I want to see is what Unai can do with what he has and if Ramsey stays it could be the making of him as almost a deep lying striker?

Cast your mind back Cocker, to Gazides talking about Emery’s initial interview and the dossiers he brought with him on our present squad and how he saw where he could improve them. (not great grammar-sorry Adam).

I’d rather we were a bit more circumspect this window, make a few well thought out signings instead of some or a few big splashes for PR reasons. Of course if a really good player is get’able, then fine, but I’m not too hung up over headline grabbing transfers for the sake of it…

  8. rico says:

At last, I can get back on here…

Similar with a lot of our defenders Potter, with a soft/weak midfield, they have often been left exposed…

I’m sure Emery will sort that out.

  9. Le Coq Monster says:

Agree mostly Kev, but I`d like quality signings in the positions we are struggling in……………………..Goalie, CD and DM………………………………..I`m quite happy with the strikers and attacking midfielders and wing backs we have, but everyone apart from Arsene knew our defence has been a shambles and not whether even Dick can salvage anything from the injury riddled Koz, Mustafi and others, hope I`m wrong .

  10. Le Coq Monster says:

    Cheers Boss !………………… 🙂

You know what Rico, I always thought that saying about a decent goalie gets you so many points per season was an overated exageration, but when when Manshafter won at our place when we had 75% possession and a guiness book of records amount of shots on goal I changed my mind…………………a top keeper like DeGea is worth the extra money, of that I now have no doubt, but true world class keepers are few and far between aren`t they ?…………………..I`d blow the whole budget on one ! 🙂

  11. Le Coq Monster says:

Me too…………………………I`d give them Cech, Ospina, Gerry Peyton and £50M ! 😆

  12. Wavy says:

Happy birthday LC another year towards retirement and 100% sun bathing time!

Dick, I reckon is going for the short term fix whilst sharpening up the youngsters who have fallen so far behind in their development that they now need major surgery before hitting the first team again! But they are the future whilst the old brigade he seems likely to bring in will prop up the defensive deficiencies we have suffered for so long!

What a miserable day it’s been today rain, muzzle, mist and cold. Just like Cornwall?

  13. Paddywhack says:

Good post Rico. What pisses me off is you see reports such as “it is reported that Arsenal have signed xxxxxxxx.” or “Arsenal on the brink of signing xxxxxxx”. Why can’t they just be like the Bin Dippers and get the job done!!!

  14. rico says:

It’s mizzle or missle Cicero, although not sure of the spelling. It’s a cross between mist and drizzle..

Thanks Paddy, that’s why the media do that kind of thing, to get us going. Just because they report it, doesn’t mean to say they’re right. Patience my friend, patience ?

  15. Wavy says:

Rico’s right it should have been mizzle not muzzle or any other iPad rewrites. You know well enough it’s misty liquid drenched cloud that has the effrontery to come down to earth and wet us all through.
Sodding auto correct. Reminder to self, don’t post until you have reread what should have been written!

  16. Le Coq Monster says:

Thanks Wavy……………………..quite weird here today we had this stuff falling from the sky that had a water like texture !

Hands up who wants the Ballotelli rumour to be true ……………………………..I`d rather re-sign Jeffers !…………….hahaha

  17. Obi says:

Imo, I believe that Emery underachieved at PSG and to a point at Seville, Europa success notwithstanding. However I do think that he will be a success much faster at Arsenal than people think.
My reasons is tactics; aside from Pep (400m budget and all) is there any other top 6 manager in the EPL who is truly tactical or a systems guy – long ball and parking the bus does not qualify as master strokes. I think that when you compared his overall combination of defensive and offensive tactics he’s is better than any of the top six teams aside from maybe Pep – who spends a lots of money to get players that can play in his system, players make Pep, Pep doesn’t make players. Klop has always been defensively challenge and doesn’t have a plan B in most games (i,e., AW). Jose has been figured out since RM – park the bus and counter. Poch doesn’t make in game adjustments and Conte’s issue is the same as Emery’s – Man Management. In the situations that Emery underachieved it was largely due to man management. Thus far, it doesn’t seems that it will be a problem at Arsenal, that is the reason I believe he will be successful quicker.

  18. Thabang says:

Is it me or is it exciting to write anything about the Arsenal again? Rico has started dropping a post daily again. The transfer talk has also gone into a crazy spin. I for one am very excited about the future. As for Arsene Wenger,he didn’t set the bar too high performancewise, it will not be too difficult for Emery to match or even exceed our recent performances.
