Big clear out before big deadline day signing? Gnabry gone, Wilshere and Chambers to follow…

Morning all.

Jack Wilshere is off out on loan then which imo, can only be a good thing for both him and Arsenal. He’s not going to get much playing time this season if he stays put, not when one considers how many midfielders we have. He needs to sort his career out, his game out too and he certainly needs to have a relatively injury free season. Playing abroad might be his best option, where players don’t target his fragile bones as they do here in England. I doubt overseas referees would allow such things either, unlike in the Premier League. I suspect this decision is off the back of not being selected for England and after Big Sam saying that if he’s not playing regular football, he won’t be playing for his country. I think we all know how much Jack loves playing for his country. Anyway, good luck to him, I hope it works out. Will he ever come back?

I like Estrella....
I like Estrella….

Lucas Perez landed at Heathrow yesterday evening and made the short trip across town to Arsenal. Both he and Mustafi are expected to be confirmed as Arsenal players this morning and with Wilshere and Chambers going, maybe there’s room for one or two late signings yet for Arsenal, especially once Sanogo goes which surely he will before 11pm tomorrow.

Another central defender, one who can play at right-back equally as well as he can central would be ideal, even if it’s a loan and a striker or winger wouldn’t go amiss either but I doubt the latter will arrive, not all the time Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gnabry are with us although according to Sky Sports in Germany, Gnabry is heading off to Bayern Munich for good, well, after he’s spent a season at Werder Bremen. Big mistake imo, he looks like his has a lot more to offer than both of our Englishman.

I don’t know why but I still have a feeling there’s a big one to come, I often do but usually i’m wrong!

I still think we are an injury away from a crisis at the back and up front, especially as Koscielny has a bad back. Yes, Holding looks good but lumping too much pressure on his too soon may just do more harm than good and let’s not forget, he’s still only 20 years old. There’s fitness doubts over Giroud too and knowing our luck, one or both will play for France and come back crocked, the transfer window will be shut and already things will get tricky as the fixtures come thick and fast between now and Christmas.

36 hours to go and then this transfer window closes…..

Who would you love Arsene Wenger to sign before it does?

Morning House, rico. Not over-pleased with all these departures especially Gnabry. Thought we would have a squad to compete for 4 trophies. But come ELC, we will be short after our usual run of injuries, we have half a dozen at moment and only three weeks in!

  2. Arsenal01 says:

Draxler. 22 and would soften the blow of losing Gnabry. PSG might be bidding £64million, but when’s he going to play?

  3. andrewh1313 says:

Now that would round the window off Scott/rico. I’d put a poster of AW up on the wall for a week!!
    And no darts 😉

I don’t mind not winning the league, cant see us in top two whatever we do, but I hate sitting on the millions we have had the last two seasons, while we have obvious deficient areas.

  4. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

Draxler for me. Or Klaasen from Ajax.

Jonny Castro is another good defender. he plays all across the backline….RB, LB and CB for Celta Vigo. Erik Durm is also a good defender who plays both RB and LB positions.

Sell Ospina and Ches and get Timo Horn from Cologne.

Do we have to pay someone to get them to take Sanogo???

  5. Stanley Simons says:

Crazy to let gantry go,great talent.can’t see the point of getting young talent in,and not giving them a chance. We are in all competitions again and we need a good squad,as our injury history is so poor ,why let exiting young players go out on loan we will need them!!!!!

  6. Bob John says:

    Hi all
Such a tradegy about Jack. When he first emerged he was the nearest thing to Liam Brady I had seen and thats the highest praise I can give. A friend warned me that he would be prone to ankle problems because of his running style. Hope he can go abroad and play the type of football that suits him. One thing is for sure, he has no chance of getting in a Fat Sam Englamd squad. Allardyce was actually trying to get Stephen Nzonzi in the squad which tells you all you need to know! Luckily he has a French u21 cap so didn’t qualify.

  7. kelsey says:

I would like to know when we buy all these youngsters like Campbell, Gnabry Wellington etc what defines being good enough for the first team. They may get the occasional game or CC game and then loaned out or loaned out before s invariably no one thought about a work permit. What’s the point, you can’t judge them or their potential yet he’s held on to Walcott now for about 11 years, never loaned him out, just kept paying him more. Football is a business I am told well we sure have a funny way of doing things. There is no set rule under AW, even the over 30 rule differs from player to player.

  8. Marshall says:

    Reus for me(i wish).
Though I think our Transfer business is over. Maybe the clearout. Gnabry shouldn’t have gone

  9. kelsey says:

Something doesn’t add up here.Jack would have known weeks ago he wasn’t go to feature for England and after an uninjured cameo for us at the end of the season and a few minutes at The Euros why loan him out the day before the window closes……unless someone else is coming in, as Rico suggested.

His character might not appear relevent as Dennis Wise and John Terry to name just two aren’t the nicest people in the world but Jack is a rebel and Wenger doesn’t like it, warned him but he stuck two fingers up at him. That is a decision Wenger will judge but I honestly think Jack has had far too many injuries for one so young and his ankles are knackered.

  10. allezkev says:

    Morning All

    Morning Rico…

More signings, that’s a nice thought, but, I suspect all we’re seeing is a classic case of – balancing the books…

Remember, this is the Bank of Arsene we’re talking about…

  11. Hell Raising Devil says:

hmmmm. some tweets on JW loan……. 😀

AW surely must be worried about the money.

He wants to send JW on loan so that he will get the physios off the pay roll. 600-1-2 (physios) now.

surely it is a nice gesture by AW to allow JW to experience some hospitals around the country.

Brexit has affected JW so much that he wants to go to Juve to remain in Europe.

  12. scottfromoz says:

Kev, he spent over 90 million…….I doubt any of us suspected that’s happen.
You’re right, this is Arsene, and one thing we know about him is we will never know what he’s going to do next 🙂

  13. Wavy says:

Has Gnarbry really gone? The only report I’ve read stated that BM were interested after his impressive goalscoring feats during the Olympics. Not that he’d been sold. Arsenal.com?

I’m surprised Jack is still playing at all! I was convinced that we would never see him on the playing field again after his last near season long injury. Not sure we’ll ever see him play for Arsenal again. I think he’s been ‘dumped’.

    Morning all.

  14. potter says:

Has Gnabry’s head been turned after the Olympic experience with Germany. After his time with Pulis I wouldn’t blame him for wanting to go home . Shame and maybe uncertainty over Brexit may have contributed as well.

  15. potter says:

Jack needs to go abroad where his ankles won’t be an immediate target . He needs a less pressurised game than he gets here where that is the latest technique for lesser teams to compete. It is symptomatic of English football that the Get in their faces mantra has never left us. Until it does world football success will always be miles away.

  16. frednerk says:

    Morning All
Can’t be sure if this is true?
But wenger has said to Jack
Can’t have you setting a bad example
    to our young fans mate.
    What do you mean..Jack say’s

You going around with a tow-rag
hanging to the side of your mouth.

You can go on loan to Italy son
and learn how to smoke properly.

  17. Hell Raising Devil says:

Jack may have one or two unscrewed nuts but he is no idiot.

He knows that he will never get on the pitch before Ozil. He knows that Aaron and Cazorla are ahead of him in the pecking order for the B2B player. He knows that he will never play ahead of Xhaka, Elneny and Coquelin. He knows that to play he will have to move elsewhere.

He might also want a new contract. But this might backfire as I don’t think it will be a good move from AW to hand him a new contract. So he asks for a loan move.

Deep down I feel that AW also wants Jack out of the way because good as he might be he is injured most of the time. And sitting on such an amount of money makes JW a liability. AW knows that he can sell JW for anything between 30-40 million and get a stronger player in his place. Not necessarily of the same technical level but with stronger ankles.

Take Elneny. Is he technically better than Jack?? No. Is he a typical English type player?? No. Is he tactically more aware than Jack?? YES. Is he a better team player than JAck?? Yes. Is he stronger than Jack??? You can bet on it.

A coach would love to have Jack. Any coach would. But at the end of the day it will be Elneny who will be chosen because he is more balanced in his approach, attitude and physical strength than Jack can ever dream to be.

  18. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to The Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

It is probably best that Jack goes out on loan and plays regularly, rather than fight for a place in our already crowded midfield. I like Jack, but could never figure out where he best fitted into our game/team, if he fitted at all.

As for Serge, he too needs to playing regularly so that his development doesn’t stall. A loan to a German team is probably for the best. Last year’s fiasco loan to West Brom and that cretin Tony ‘Clueless’ Pubis can’t have done anything for Serge’s confidence or development. However, I’d be surprised if was sold. He is a very promising player.

  19. Dublingunner says:

Afternoon, Sad to see the passing of Gene wilder, such laughter he gave to every household R.I.P

I think it,s all but confirmed now, twitter suggesting, “Serge Gnabry’s father has confirmed that his son has signed for Bayern”, sad really, with one year left on his contract, I think we,ve seen of him, who can blame him for wanting to go to Bayern , it must be every German boys dream, Good luck to him, we obviously didn,t appreciate him enough.

Wilshere to me is a shock, but I agree with it,He,s just too much of a risk.
Campbell,Serge and Wilshere out, Have we something big coming ?

Wilshere rumours suggesting Juventus, could be his Destination, interesting.

  20. Joaquim Moreira says:

Draxler? Probably to PSG. They make a bid of 60millions…
With Wilshere on loan our squad still not deep enought

  21. Wavy says:

    Ah! David Ornstein has spoken:

Wilshere loan 1yr no break clause if right club found. #AFC want to keep Gnabry but big #FCBayern offer may change things. No more signings

    His Twitter account

Now we know the score for both Jack and Serge!

  22. allezkev says:

Wenger probably doesn’t want to let Gnabry leave, but with only a year left on his contract AW probably realises he can walk on a Bosman in 12months so he’s taking a fee for him now rather than zilch next summer…

Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain will be happy.

I wonder if Wenger would have allowed Campbell to leave if this scenario had occurred earlier in the summer?

  23. Dublingunner says:

    Remy loan deal to Palace

Wilshere loan 1yr no break clause if right club found. what,s that mean, Wavy….

Apparently Wilshere demanded the loan deal, wouldn,t know what to believe, wherever he ends up, there,ll be no shortage of Offers

Got to love Barca,s ambition, Neymar, Suarez, Messi, and they go out and buy Alcacer another striker for 25 million.

  24. TT says:

I don’t understand peoples disappointment regarding Gnabry. He never show enough for me to be considered a top player in the making. If he had the talent to succeed he would have come through and there has always been this rumbling about attitude when it comes to training and I don’t think that will change. He is old enough to have grown out of that if he was going to in the first place.

  25. allezkev says:

    Email on the way Coach…

I hope you’re right about another signing Rico, because since Mustafi and Perez were announced, and we were thinking what a large, competitive and strong squad we had, Wenger seems intent on weakening it again with Chambers, Wilshere, Gnabry, plus who knows who else departing…

Can’t sed Draxler coming in, for whatever inflated fee being reported…

I mean why would the club fanny about over a fee for Lacazette and then pay a record sum for Draxler?
    Can’t see it myself…

As for James Rodriguez, I never thought that that was a go’er…

Nope Rico, I think that Arsene has done all his business, so I’d have an early night on deadline day if I was you… ?

  26. Dublingunner says:

Campbell, and Gnabry are fine players, but I,m sure under different managers, “Good managers” they will fullfill their potential, but they need to do it now,
Wenger still wants to keep Gnabry, but if I was him, i,d run a mile, their careers are stalling at Arsenal.
Frenetic I think was the word AW used for the last few days of the window, but I think he meant it just for all outgoing players, unfortunately.
With Chambers gone, surely it,s now vital we we keep Debuchy.

  27. potter says:

TT I think the disappointment comes from the time and effort that we seem to spend on developing footballers that just don’t make it. . Today you could easily add Jack to that list.

  28. Bob John says:

Must have been stupid to think we may have something up our sleeves for deadline day. AW learns nothing by continuously sending players on loan when we have an injury prone squad and a mega fixture list. Sheffield Wednesday last season springs to mind when we ended up using players we didn’t really want to due to loans and iniuries. Result more injuries!
Anyone remember 2007/8 when we sent Djorou on loan to Birmingham? At the time he was looking a really good prospect and we already had injuries at the back. 1game later another CB gets injured and we have to play Gilberto there at WHL! Not only that but Djorou’s confidence was shot to shit at Birmingham and he returned a broken player. Lose/Lose

  29. rico says:

I can understand Jack going Bob but not Campbell or Gnabry… It’s crazy when you look at our alternative options. OC and Walcott will soon be injured, they always or usually are… Then we are stuffed yet again…

Always always two or three short….

  30. kelsey says:

Can someone tell me including the three first teamers that retired who else has gone be it on loan or loan with an option to buy. We aren’t very good sorting out contracts or work permits
    .
We bought Campbell, no work permit, on loan for at least three years has a reasonable world cup when he had value, out on loan again, then gets a very few games for us, looks as good as most others that drift in and out of the team and then we get rid of him for the sixth time.

The Costa Rica international completed a temporary move to Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon last weekend despite Arsenal’s lack of options up front due to Danny Welbeck’s injury.

Campbell enjoyed a run in Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up in the 2015/16 season and the 24-year-old finished with a return of four goals in all competitions for the Gunners.

The South American has now gone on the sixth loan spell of his journeyman career so far after previously moving to Puntarenas, Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiakos and Villarreal

  31. kelsey says:

I reckon if Kos gets injured which he will because he is playing whilst not fully fit our defensive woes will be as bad as ever.

Dreadful planning yet again even if mustafi is good he will need time.

Our defence especially in the second half against Watford looked extremely shaky. Why.You haave Bould who isn’t allowed to speak who played in a great back four just looking on, chewing gum and looking totally pissed off.

  32. rico says:

    🙂 Kev.

Re Gnabry, didn’t Wenger say he was sending him on loan, but only after he signed a contract extension?

The Bayern stories could be all boolards….

  33. Joaquim Moreira says:

And he is very happy in Lisbon and will play almost all the games. Is a good League for him..
    Can he return on January?
And about Benzema? We are not interesting in him?
I don’t understand this politic: we have a squad too short but we sell/loan more effective players then we buy.

  34. Obi says:

Who would you love Arsene Wenger to sign before it does? Realistically, I will bid for Andre Siva of Porto (CF), about 20 years old, but is full of class, ability and confidence – I have been saying that for a while and I heard this morning that LC has put in a bid for him. For a defender, I will go for Wolfsburg’s Robin Knoche 6’3 and is ideally built for the English game. Unrealistically, Lewandowski or Draxler and for CB Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

  35. Micko says:

rico 3.37, spot on, we have the core of a great team but always end up a couple of players short to challenge for the league every season, isn’t that what it’s all about.

Jm, you could have broken the Benzema news more subtly, tsgh will be in pieces ! Hope your proud of yourself.

  36. kelsey says:

After Gnabry’s outstanding performances at the 2016 Olympics, where he helped Germany secure a silver medal, Wenger insisted his future lay in north London.

Gnabry nabbed five goals in six games, and an enamoured Arsenal boss told Jack Bezants of MailOnline : “I want to keep Serge Gnabry and extend his contract. I think we stood by him. He went to West Brom, didn’t play, we had to rebuild his confidence. I allowed him to go to the Olympics to help Germany. I think he’s here now for a long time.”

The decision to allow Joel Campbell to join Sporting Lisbon on loan looked like an attempt to create room for Gnabry in the squad. However, those efforts may prove to have been in vain—the player is now linked with a move to German giants Bayern Munich.
    ——————————————————————————————————————

So Wenger lies again and even if Gnabry doesn’t finish up at Bayern munich they think he is good enough for them but now obviously not for us.

BT, I would imagine that, when you was at school, that you was a prefect… ?

Yeah Rico, I’m gonna be watching the Channel 5 highlights tonight…

I do prefer the 5 day format, but Hales has had one hell of a day today…

  39. Gd10 says:

    Cunning new plan from Wenger

Usually he leaves himself too short on numbers, usually by not strengthening the squad sufficiently in the window.

This time he knew he had to spend money. So hes got a big somewhat balanced squad and nowhere to run if we bottle it again.

Solution – sell or loan a load of decent squad players. That’ll give us the gaps and excuses when injuries hit and we fall away.

    I jest…

  40. scottfromoz says:

I just read an archipelago suggesting we’ve sold Gnabry to Bayern, and how excited Werder Bremen are at they’ve almost agreed with Arsenal to a season long loan.
    All in the SAME article??
How do some of these people make a living from journalism?
    Morning all.

  41. BT62 Gooner says:

Howdy Scott, think i saw that one earlier and laughed plus Bayern buying him and loaning him straight to Bremen..

Then Bremen saying Bayern would have no part in the deal…

Palace seem favourites to get Jack on loan with an option to buy, though wages could be a problem,Watford and other lower placed clubs interested.IMO that’s the end of his career with Arsenal and in all probability best for both.I wonder what he is worth in monetary terms.

  45. kelsey says:

I thought the site was down 😉

Bournemouth or Palace for Jack.Surprised either can afford his reported 80/90 k a week. Gascoine lives in Bournemouth and old Arry is down the road in Poole.

I honestly think we won’t see Jack again in an Arsenal shirt, that just leaves Walcott 🙂

  46. Hell Raising Devil says:

Good Morning you rain soaked miserable lovelies and Hunkies

Morning Scott……you are getting near Spring now. Have you done maintenance work on the mud hut yet>???

Morning Kelsey. JW again in an Arsenal shirt??? yes if he manages to get his head around to play for the team and not for himself.

Many on the blogs are lamenting the loan of Campbell and the selling of Gnabry. Well there is a logical reason for it…..AW wanted to loan Campbell as he will be a surplus with the overseas player quota if everything remained as it is, while he wanted to keep Gnabry as he is homegrown and wanted to make him part of the first team. Unfortunately it backfired as Gnabry wanted to leave permanently. Even if AW knew beforehand that Serge would go, he still would have had to send JC on loan.

The problem now is replacing JW with a homegrown player. Getting in Almiron would not solve it as he is listed as an overseas player.

  47. kelsey says:

    Sorry lads

finding it hard to comment. The site is jumping allover the place. So in all probability we are done this window. What’s the position with Akpom is he still out on loan,I have lost track

Has Arsene planned for all this to happen on the last day
Have we won the Gold Medal for poker Games?
Why has he waited so long and ruined our summer.
Lets be fair would you,if you were Arsene want to

  52. Marshall says:

Pogba shirts has surpassed 190M. That’s the sort of business our club doesn’t seem to be keen on. Not sure how they approach it but if we can afford a big name (which equals to big price) we can recoup almost all his transfer fee through shirt sales and endorsements.

A messi, Suarez or Griezmann would get shirts moving off the shelves and fans excited, hence increase in revenue. Right now I am content but not excited….fans should be excited going into the season. Am just ok.

I hope we keep an interest in him so if, by some miracle he comes good, we have an option on him.
Rico, apart from that bloody dance, I’d take Sturridge.
He’s got everything needed to be sensational in front of Ozil.

  61. Bob John says:

    Morning all
Wasn’t gonna bother with Transfer Window but as I am stuck at home recovering from a Triple Heart Bypass last week I’ve got nothing better to do!

  62. Bob John says:

    Thanks Rico/Scott.
Rico you are a cricket fan. any idea why there is only one team promoted from Div Two this year? I’ve been quite confident that Essex would get promotion until I just read only one team is going up!

  63. potter says:

Kelsey , Me and now you Bob , is it old age or just Arsenal that’s not good for our hearts. Good luck with it, keep taking the tablets and you’ll be fine.

  64. rico says:

I just googled the reason Bob and it’s down to the players having to switch formats of the games too many times during a season which Strauss said doesn’t help the England team and seeing as most of the international players are playing in Div one, with only having 8 teams next season, they won’t have to swap so often…

  65. rico says:

According to reports, there’s a sell on clause in Gnabry’s contract but no mention f a first refusal. I guess Arsenal are thinking about Bayern making a big offer for him next summer…

  66. allezkev says:

I’ve heard the Bayern rumours Rico, this is coming across as a very murky transfer.
Apparently Grabry senior is the agent of Serge and from what I’ve read is out of the Anelka brothers stable…

  67. BT62 Gooner says:

Kev, from apparent quotes from Serge’s father yesterday, he was disappointed that his son was not prepared to stay at Arsenal.

  68. Bob John says:

Thanks for everyone’s good wishes. As I am only mid-fifties, non-smoker, low cholestrol and none of the other usual signs I can only agree with Potter that it must be Arsenal related:-D

  69. Hell Raising Devil says:

Put yourself in Gnabry’s shoes mates. A german kid growing up dreams of Bayern Munich. He comes to Arsenal. But in the final year of his contract BM contact his agent (dad) and tell him to go to Germany so that he will continue to develop there. They promise him that within two to three years they will bid for him knowing fully well that if AW gets it into his mind to keep him he will keep him especially as now there is no money issues. If Gnabry goes to German club it will be easier for Munich to get him.

Gnabry decides to go and play elsewhere regularly knowing that at AFC he will always be 3rd or 4th choice behind…..Alexis, Theo, Ox, Iwobi……unless injuries strike. So in his final year he tells AW he will leave either now or next summer.

    AW’s hands are tied.

So imo selling Gnabry is best for everyone concerned.

A figure of Eur10mill is mentioned

If Almiron comes he is going to be bought for 11 million. He is a left footed winger who plays on the Left hand side of attack and AM.

    Makes sense imo.

The only snag is that Gnabry is listed as homegrown.

Almiron will come only if we don’t get Sturridge.

  70. rico says:

Good to see you’ve kept your sense of humour Bob…

The hearts a funny old thing isn’t it, sometimes even a healthy lifestyle doesn’t help, if it’s in the genes, it’s in the genes… 🙁

  71. Hell Raising Devil says:

Get well soon Bob. The road is long and winding…..but if you nurse yourself gradually and build up your cardio strength gradually and how the medics tell you than you will be healthier than ever before.

Be happy with little steps……in ten years time you will look back and see that they were giant leaps.

  72. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Hart has joined Torino.

I have been saying it for a long time…..if English clubs want their Keepers and defenders to learn the tactical (and dark) sides of defending then they need to be loaned to Italian clubs. They will learn a lot there.

If they want their midfielders to learn how to play then loan them to France or Spain.

If they want their strikers to become more clinical loan them to the championship or premier clubs in England.

  73. Hell Raising Devil says:

I don’t think so BT62. He is an international and will not find it difficult imo.

I prefer a European player though.

Yes Almiron is technically gifted and is also good athlete….but I prefer Europeans because they don’t have to jet all over the world during internationals.

  74. Hell Raising Devil says:

If I was in Perez’ place and wanted to be unique I would not go for the number 9….too many flops or injury prone players have worn lately. I would not go for any number either.

I would go for the number vacated by Ches…..1. Argentina did it in 1978…remember Ardiles wearing the number 1 on his back???

    Why not??

    LP01.

  75. kelsey says:

Sorry to hear that Bob. Most probably too much of the Erroll Flynn’s at your age 😉 (what a way to go)

Debuchy is staying put, the very Debuchy who twice this Summer we were trying to offload for 3 million.

All gone quiet on Walcott.Maybe the boss is going to give him another chance by upping his wages to a round 200K and a new extended 10 year contract to coincide with Wengers’s 80th birthday and thirty years at the club.

Sissoko to Spurs, they can have him. I wanted Draxler or Isco but never mind I will keep taking the pills

Bob what you on. I take aspirun, rampiril and statins and Xanax for increased anxiety. I sincerely hope you are up and about very soon, just gentlr walking is a good stimulant for the heart, but I am sure you know that.

Surely AW planned this move with jack being loaned out quite a while ago and if he stays in the PL as I said earlier the two clubs interested aren’t exactly ones that spring to mind.

Oh in Ripper Street (BBC2 ) why do some coppers have coloured shirts and jackets like torquise,it’s meant to be 1889

  76. kelsey says:

“If they want their strikers to become more clinical loan them to the championship or premier clubs in England” so any takers for Giroud or Walcott ;).

  77. Hell Raising Devil says:

I meant for the young ones Kelsey……Ollie and Theo are past it now.

But players who are still under 24 years (Chambers, Akpom, Reine Adelaide, etc) the moves can be good ones. If Jack goes to Italy he will benefit for sure. Whether its what AW or the club requires is another story. For all we know he might want to stay there.

Ollie is 29 now….Theo is 27….so they will not learn much now.

But Jack can still learn at 24. Especailly if he goes to Italy.

  78. Bob John says:

    Hi Kelsey.
As it was only last week I am on a whole host of drugs for a while. From what I gather the eventual aim is to just be on statins and aspirin. As I had none of the usual things that make you a heart attack candidate its a bit difficult to assess I guess.

  79. kelsey says:

I would imagine you are on blood thinners for a year like Warfrin .You may bruise easily and if you cut yourself it can be difficult to ste,. I forgot about the beta blockers as Potter and I had to stop those as it lowered our BP too much.I hope you make a full recovery. They may give you Rampiril as well which is already proven to be very good for the heart. All the very best.

  80. allezkev says:

Blimey Bob, it might be genetic mate…

I think I copped my dose from my Mothers side, my maternal Uncle had a by-pass, but he had a great innings and he was a Spud, God bless him…

  81. kelsey says:

Fags are cheaper in Italy Rico 😉

Sturridge appears not to be in Klopp’s plans but injury prone so we must be first in line but only if we do a swap with …..

  82. rico says:

    🙂 Andrew and Kelsey…

But will the showers have smoke alarms in Italy?

Good re Wenger, hopefully Ivan is on the transfer case or Dickie Law whatever his name is…

  83. Hell Raising Devil says:

Cant we exchange Jack for Sturridge? Straight swap. both of them injury prone. Both English. both want to play. we need a CF. They need a midfielder.

not rocket science thinking is it.

  84. rico says:

Arsenal playing hardball with Roma over Wilshere
    Posted at
    14:28
You know talked about soap-style plots? Well there could be a few twists and turns in the Jack Wilshere to Roma storyline.

I’ll let our reporter David Ornstein explain…

“For context, Arsenal were aggrieved by Roma’s conduct in talks over a possible move by Arsenal for Roma defender Kostas Manolas earlier this summer,” he says.

“So an agreement will not be easy. Still hope for Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.”

  85. Joaquim Moreira says:

    I hope Sissoko…
    Slimani and Adrien – Leicester
wilshere – I think it’s not he not the best solution in Rome.
    Isco – Totts ?

  86. allezkev says:

Listened to English agent John Smith in an interview given on ArsenalFanTV yesterday, he said Arsenal were very difficult to negotiate with in transfers (yeah, really ?) but he was full of praise for Law and Gazides…

It’s worth watching if you get a chance, it’s on YouTube

  87. Obi says:

Devil @ 12:24, agree but for strikers South America for me all day. Even in the lower divisions those guys do not miss chances. Their movement and ability to bring others into play even as strikers are much more better than any level in English football. I watch the English championship every weekend most of the strikers are horrid coach.

  88. allezkev says:

Rico, John Smith did allude to fact that Wenger is a bit on the dithering side, in not so many words… ?

AC Milan now rumoured to be in for Wilshere…

  89. Wavy says:

You know your stats are wrong Rico. It’s now 599 since the shop assistant hand in his resignation for economic reasons! I wonder if he’s got another ‘position’ yet? I hope so, he seemed to reflect the more caring side of the Arsenal ‘family’.

Very sad to see Gnabry leave. It’s the way Wenger treats ’em. Imo.

Not sure now, with al the loanees gone that we have sufficient depth to make any realistic challenge on the top 4 this season or for any other silverware, come to that.

The silver haired goat has cocked up again, unless…………a spectacular signing is revealed before 23.00 tonight!

I’ve just seen another pig fly over my house!

  90. kelsey says:

I have been called a few things in my life but “a silver haired goat”

    Remember Wilshere instigated this move.

Can’t wait to see Walcott put (let’s be generous) three good consecutive games together 🙂

  91. rico says:

    I’m shocked Kev…. Lol

    My apologises Wavy… 😉

Micko, I didn’t mention the fans because the club don’t… And aren’t we customers these days?

  92. Marshall says:

I believe we have a better squad than we had on deadline day last year. One of the Manchester teams will definitely drop points in the derby(I hope both drop).

    We can dare dream again.

  93. Bearman says:

Really do not agree with letting Wilshere go on loan, Arteta, Rosicky, Flamini, Campbell, Gnabry and now Wilshere all gone from the midfield and all we have brought in is Xhaka, strongly think this is leaving us short again.

  94. Le Coq Monster says:

    Evening all !

    From Bournemouth`s official website………………………
” We happy to see Jack Wilshere join us on a season long loan, he is currently in an isolation unit under observation awaiting results to see whether his injuries are contageous whilst our medical research facilities are on high alert just incase we need a cure ! “

  95. Wavy says:

I hear Jack has bought a warden assisted bungalow in Eastbourne in readiness for his imminent retirement from football. Apparently his bones have just outstripped his chronological age by fifty years! Shame because he could have been a contender!

Kelsey, just a post script. I would never ever refer to any blogger as an ‘old goat’ Wenger, yes! Apart from which Jack Kelsey was the first Arsenal goalkeeper I ever saw, what a star he was. Don’t think I’d ever diss (geographical pun?) anyone who adopted the great man’s name. You’re too good a blogger to take objection to. Keep up the good work, please.

  96. tsgh says:

So are we now a counter-attacking team based on our midfield? Deducing from the players we have we can definitely not be a possession team…
Bearman I must agree, midfield is a worry for a team hoping to play in the UCL…

  97. tsgh says:

Since starting over far east tours in 2011; we have taken 1.28 points per game in August. Before that under Aw it was 2.1pts per game in August. Between 2006 to 2011 it was 2.01 points…

  98. tsgh says:

With Mustafi making more interceptions in La liga in the last 2 years but having the 9th highest (despite being one of the tallest) header success as a CB and 22 highest number of blocks I guess we may not be improving on our weakness i.e conceding from set-pieces 4th highest in EPl and 2nd highest number of goals from long range…

  99. tsgh says:

With this Cv maybe we should get Senderos back… 🙂

Arsenal, Milan, Everton, Valencia, Rangers, Villa & Fulham. Plus 57 Swiss caps. Remarkable.

Micko- you see AW is not bad at making defensive signings after all… The Chelskis have now spent £57m on three left-backs since Ashley left in 2014

  100. tsgh says:

10 EPL clubs have broken their own club recording fees…

Mustafi a CB become 2 times more expensive than our most expensive striker ever…

  101. allezkev says:

Evening Ginge, yeah good move for him, I can’t see him having any kind of future at Arsenal so Colchester is a positive step to some regular senior football…

  102. tsgh says:

agreed. I hope JW10 has an injury free season too.. I would like to see him and Afobe link up like the good old days at Underhill

  103. allezkev says:

Afobe is the Godfather to Jacks children Ginge, apparently Benik is his best friend…

Such a pity about Afobes injuries,me really looked the business before them…

  104. Micko says:

tsgh, I read somewhere that Mustafi picked up 2 or 3 red cards last season, he won’t be a soft touch, gotta admit I was gutted when I heard Senderos had signed for Rangers this evening, lifes a bitch !

  105. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Sissoko goes to Totts…
Have we enought players? (Sanoko, Adelaide,Jenkinson, don’t count for me. Don’t forget the long term injuries)

  106. Wavy says:

Perhaps, Bournebroth’s training methods and pitches are less pernicious the the Arsenal’s grass and Jack has a full season without injurythat would be encouraging, and it may suggest that the home club’s surfaces are just not ‘fit’ for purpose!.

  107. Obi says:

Hmmmm could it possibly be that is JW is playing for his next manager at Arsenal? Wait and see. The dude turned down 21 other team to go there….# am just saying…..

  108. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

Well, well, well we did not sign anyone yesterday. rather signed off some players. one of them is JW.

I would have loved him to go to an Italian team….he would have learnt a lot there. But thinking about it I think the Cherries are much better for him physically. Why?? because there he will have a lot of time to rest between games. JW and also AW know that Bournemouth have only 35 league games left. They might not advance much in the cups and in the early rounds Jack might not be used. So he will be playing just a max of 35 games in 9 months. Around 4 games a month. At Roma they will have the Serie A, the coppa Italia and maybe the CL. He would have been risked more. So all around its a better move for Jack it seems.

deep down I would have loved Jack to be exchanged with Sturridge. Both are English and both are on the wrong end of injuries. But do we need too many bodies in midfield?? Honestly how much was Jack going to play with the midfield quality and depth we have?? Atm we don’t even need a striker as every position is amply covered by two players……

    Cech, Ospina, Martinez
    Bellerin, Debuchy
    Nacho, Gibbs
    Kos, Holding
    Mustafi, Gabi
    Xhaka, Coquelin
    Cazorla, Elneny
    Ozil, Aaron
    Alexis, Iwobi
    Theo, Ox
    Ollie, Perez.

We still have Per, Danny, Jenks who are injured and also Akpom who is still here. Yes we will have injuries but how many players can one have???

We also have a couple of youth players who can come in.

Am I satisfied??? Yes and no. I think that having two quality players for every position plus three who are injured and will come back in the next three months (Gabi will return soon so did not include him in the injured list) is good enough cover. However I feel that AW should have scoured the lower leagues to find someone (not cost much like Holding) who can play all across the back four and another who can play all across midfield. We need those type of players

  109. rico says:

    Morning Devil, Kelsey and all.

  110. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. Looking at that Chelsea list you have to wonder what the strategy was when it came to new players. Perhaps it’s just a ‘buy everybody’ approach.
Unless the team blows out badly this season I imagine that Arsene will sign up for another few years. Mustafi, as you mentioned the other day, would have wanted assurances to that effect.

  111. rico says:

Morning Adam. That’s my fear too as you know. Mind you, Mustafi would probably have wanted reassurances over Ozil, Alexis and co too so perhaps he knows they are staying which is only good news.

I think your suggestion is close to the truth, buy everybody just so other clubs can’t…

  112. frednerk says:

    Morning All
Had a butchers at our new german
    last night.
He looked a leader….He said his not.
    It must be me then?
Not used to players telling other players
    to mark up.

  113. Adam says:

Rico. We have spoken about this day on many occasions. 🙂
When you look at our squad in its present form, do you see it as a PL title winning one?

  114. scottfromoz says:

    Morning all.
I’d say our squad is better than we’ve had for 10 years or so.
The balance is there, as is the depth.
Other clubs are strong as well, though, so at present, it’s hard to say how we will fare.

  115. potter says:

Hopefully Wenger’s buys will herald a change in the style of football we play and we will be stronger at the back and play through the midfield a little quicker . The Barca lite system we have used since Cesc has enabled too many teams to have the time to sit back and get at us when we push too far forward. We have a stronger midfield base which should allow the more creative players to play with more freedom and hopefully Perez will turn out to be a quicker more mobile goalscorer than Giroud and maybe just maybe Wenger will utilise his full squad and not be so predictable in his set up. You never know our opponents might have to start thinking again if we change tactics a few times in the 90 minutes.
I think if by the January window we are there or thereabouts he will sign up again . Should we be adrift then a new manager might be on the cards. It’s difficult to get too worked up over it though . This particular close season has been quite cathartic though. It has enabled me to get all my gripes off of my chest and there is little left to say that has not already been said. So I will just sit back and watch things unfold , we have what we have and now it;’s down to the club to perform . Should be interesting.

  116. kelsey says:

Daniel Sturridge nearly went to Arsenal on loan – the only way to travel if you’re an out-of-favour England international these days – but Jurg said no.(from The Guardian)

  117. kelsey says:

I think all in all we have purchased quite well but the proof will be in the eating, so to say. Can’t judge players until they have had a godd crack (wrong choice of words)

If we can get our injuries down that would be a blessing in disquise.

My main concern would be cover for both full back positions.

  118. potter says:

In effect there is little wrong with either Gibbs or Debuchy if they are used as back up players, If they have to come in it is down to the players around them to adapt to the change and make the allowance that they are not clones of the player they are replacing. If Wenger uses them judiciously it could cut the playing time of the first picks and possibly reduce their chances of getting stress injuries. All the players in our squad are good or high standard , now it’s down to the manager to get the best from them.

  119. scottfromoz says:

Rico, we have a lot less leeway to make than other clubs, and we have strengthened, so you never know……..
We are a chance, I reckon.
I’m a little more confident than at this stage last year, though who knew so many clubs would trip up?
Still a wasted opportunity we will never get back, that one.

  120. Wavy says:

No, not a silverware winning combination. Talking to a fellow supporter the other day, we concluded that the squad is strong but the really isn’t any “wow” factor, no outstanding player or players who can turn a game with a piece of unbelievable magic, á la Henri, Pires, Adams, Freddie, Edu, Petit etc etc. Each one of those players had what it takes to produce game changing moments. Our present squad does not, not really. I’m waiting for Ozil or Sanchez to take a game by the scruff of the neck and alter its course. They are very good players but far too often they have been found to be ineffective at times when it really mattered.

A good squad but not the whole biscuit, yet. Can Wenger, at his advanced age make a difference, well no, I don’t think so. His nest days and innovative ‘tactical’ thinking has been left behind, long ago!

So, we’re just not good enough and not properly equipped to have a tilt at the title. Shame.
