Big announcement today as Arsenal forced to show their hand? Pink??!!

Morning all.

This could be fake. Last week a fake Ornstein Twitter account confirmed Mikel Arteta had the Arsenal managers job so view with caution. This is what people do, make stuff up just because they can in this very odd social media world. Don’t get me wrong, social media is great when used in the right way but it’s wide open for internet hackers who think spreading fake news is grown up and exciting. It’s not, it’s childish and often cruel. If the above is fake though, it’s good, it looks real but soon after it went public, it was gone. Clearly not before a few newspapers etc managed to print it. If it’s genuine, Arsenal FC might now react by making an announcement confirming just who has got the vacant managerial position. I’d laugh big time though if out of the blue they announce Jardim or Allegri.

Whoever it’s going to be, I just wish we’d all be put out of our misery and then watch the summer unfold however it does, enjoy the weeks of glorious sunshine, the World Cup, Wimbledon and any other sporting event which floats our boats and go into the new season with some real optimism. A feeling I haven’t experienced in a long while. A new manager, a new coaching team, a few new players hopefully and a whole new different ball game. Literally!

A new kit too although that might take some getting used to. Pink trim? What’s that all about I wonder but just like the clubs managerial choice, we can’t change it.

Ok, it’s not so bad. Well, I’ll get used to it. The away kit will be better I hope, full of colours which bring us more fortune on the road this coming season, mind you, improving on our away results won’t be a difficult challenge as last season we were simply awful. Not just results wise either but performance and for much of it, our home efforts weren’t often much better either. There were a few great matches but that’s all they were, few and certainly not what any Arsenal fan would expect from a team challenging for the league. Reality is though, Arsenal haven’t looked like a club/team set up to challenge for much for a while now.

Emery is a coach first and foremost. He adapts to teams and his players. He’s thorough/meticulous which by the way has been missing at AFC for a while. He’ll add structure/purpose, players will learn of their obligations and responsibilities, will have to come out of comfort zone – Guillem Balague

That might change now though as players will have to wake up from their Arsenal slumber, no longer will they be able to jog around on a match day knowing that it matters not how they perform, they’ll be in the team the next week. Those days are hopefully over and if it is Emery who comes in, he leaves no stone un-turned when preparing for his next match. He studies his opposition and has a plan. If that isn’t working, he’ll change it, at the time from the sideline and not a week later, or never. He’ll be on the touchline barking orders, not sat in his chair watching on as if what’s happening is someone else’s problem rather his. He’ll make substitutions when they are needed and not because the clock tells him to. I doubt we’ll ever see the continual defensive errors we’ve seen for much longer either, if at all because things like that will be addressed on the training pitch instead of ignored in hope that we’ll simply outscore the opposition on the day. Heck, we might even see a proper defensive midfield player signed this summer which by my reckoning would be the first time since Gilberto was our Mr reliable.

If Arsenal fans can’t get excited about that, then, well, I simply don’t know….

He seems to have signed up then. Dick Emery it is. Wenger is gone long live Emery the active coach!

Morning all. A new dawn, a new day, a new beginning. No more same old, same old. Now we all look forward to a new era. Let’s hope it’s going to be a really successful one and that our new coach is at the vanguard of our renewed achievements!

A toast, with my glass half full. To the new Emery era may it be truly wonderful. Full of success and loads of silverware. To put us back to where we belong!

Misty morning here today and not at all warm……yet

  2. rico says:

Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague says Unai Emery’s remit at Arsenal will be different to Arsene Wenger’s.

“They will be doing a different role. Up until now, as everybody knows, everything had to go through Arsene Wenger but now, Unai Emery is happy to repeat the same position he has had at Sevilla, Valencia and PSG, in which he was a head coach.

“This means – if it’s the same infrastructure – he can advise on what kind of players he needs and the club goes and gets them for instance and he won’t have much of a say in the amount of budget that’s needed.”

  3. Le Coq Monster says:

Morning all from a place warmer than the friction burns on Stans wallet !………………….and thank you Rico.

Yes Arsenal have confirmed it after Dick confirmed it and all after Ornstein officially confirmed it !……………
    😆

    Interesting times ahead.

Is it pink on the sleaves or is it because the red lines are so thin and mixed with the white lines to make it look pink ?

In Dick We Trust ?…………………………..what a great headline that would make Rico………..please use it at some point …………

    😆

  4. rico says:

Tell you what Lc, write 700 words to go with the heading and I’ll think about it…

    Arsene – Arsenal

    Emery – Emeryates

    🙂

  5. Le Coq Monster says:

Here is a comment from another site by a PSG fan who also is a Gooner and gives an insight to what he expects from Dick …………………mostly an opinion though !

Guys – I can tell you all about Emery. The guy is a football fanatic…He is so meticulous and he wants his teams to play with character and agression. He wants the teams to play:
    1. Direct football – get to the box as fast as possible
    2. Fast counter attack based on placed attacks
    3. High press

At PSG, his desire, attention to details and agression were not well appreciated by some players. He loves videos and he loves tactical chats.

With him as a coach, I am worried for either Miky or Ozil because there will be space for only one of them in the team. He will move Ramsey up the pitch for sure. He will also heavily rely on Auba and I think Lacaz will have a role to play up front as well so I can see the front three to be:

    Ramsey, Auba – Lacaz

He will also want 3 mids with quite an engine so I expect to see Emery keep Xhaka as a starter but in a different role and I think that he will try to recruit a DM and if he doesn’t get the one he wants, he will ask Wilshere to play there so you will have

Xhaka, RECRUIT, Miky OR Xhaka, Jack, Miky

In terms of his full-backs, he relies on attacking minded full backs so expect Bellerin and Koli to be starters

In terms of his CB, he wants 1 old school CB that is strong in the air and on the man and 1 CB that is more modern with pace, positional awareness and good passing range. Expect us to recruit another CB.

    Possible team:
Cech – Bellerin, Mavropanos, RECRUIT, Koli – Xhaka, RECRUIT, Miky – Ramsey, Auba – Lacaz

That leaves Wilshere and Ozil on the bench but he will make that team work because all of them are ready to play with heart. They will give him what he wants and they will maximize their potential.

Expect players like Mustafi, Chambers, Holding, Iwobi to be sidelined.

Expect players like Ozil, Wilshere to be frustrated but to fight for their place.

Expect players like Wellbeck, AMN and Ntiah to be given a chance.

The guys is a football freak but he can maximize a team s potential. With him, I feel that Top 4 is achievable and that a Cup win is on the cards.

If our recruitment team can get him a solid CB (Koulibaly), a solid DM (Gueye) and maybe 2 promising defenders (1 RB and 1 CB), he will deliver to meet clubs and fans expectations.

  6. potter says:

From all accounts the man is tactically motivated and gets the best out of the players that want to change to suit the style . The ones that do will play and the others will be slowly shipped out and replaced. It won’t happen overnight so I say say Judge him in May 2020.

  7. rico says:

That’s just how it should be imo. Not just be left to play as they please but still get selected…

This chance could prove to be perfect for many reasons. Time will tell of course.

  8. Cicero says:

……….Right a Head Coach appointed, that’s the first priority sorted. A day or two in order to agree the squad areas that need attention and then it’s up to the Three Wise Men to get the transfers done.

I’m quite optimistic about our new man. I think we could be on a winner. I certainly think he deserves our support rather than some of the infantile hints and references to a long deceased comedian.

  9. andrewh1313 says:

Morning all, as you forecast rico, Arsenal had to move or look silly. How West Ham and most other clubs can just announce a new manager or signing but we always dilly dally is beyond me.

Le Coq, thanks for re-posting that view, I think that’s what most of us are hoping for. I think he will have learnt from dealings with Neymar, this time it must be his way and not give ground to star players.

Hoping we sign up Wilshere and especially Ramsey to retain a British heart. Got a feeling Ramsey could finally flourish next season, hopefully now as a mature captain.

And gone are the days when no one got on the end of endless chances, Auba finally looks the striker we wanted six years ago.

    Feeling good.

  10. Kk says:

Welcome Emery. .sensible appointment imo. .
I dont know who is/was Dick Emery!

I certainly won’t be buying that awful home kit. .I don’t know who design for puma, but man, they do suck most of the time!
Red and pink just don’t go together!

  11. rico says:

Cicero, I don’t think people on here are trying to ridicule the appointment of Emery, in fact, the opposite as I’m sure they welcome his appointment with open arms…

Like you, I think we might have a good one, time will tell..

    Pure luck for me Andrew..

  12. Adam says:

Hi Andrew. I think that is in the nature of Arsenal’s relationship with the press. After all, nothing came out of the club between Wenger leaving and Emery being announced. It was all speculation and the usual suspects, claiming to be in the know, trying to extract a few quid by getting their noses in the trough. Everybody has a view where the Arsenal manager is concerned whereas only West Ham fans are interested in their new manager.
Personally, I think that Pellegrini is a good appointment for them though as long as they back him in the market, which I very much doubt they will. I have a lot of long-term WH mate’s and they say that the club has completely lost its identity over recent years.

  13. potter says:

That could be said of us too I suppose . We probably had to wait for the board to have a coffee meeting before they made the announcement so that they could have a cheeky brandy to celebrate afterwards.
You know how the old school tiesystem works.

  14. andrewh1313 says:

Adam, a lot of football fans don’t like change. Or Allardyce even after West Ham promotion and mid table. Well ok, can understand that 🙂

Arsenal have a few who are looking forward to Arsene returning after Xmas to sort out the mess, crikes.

  15. andrewh1313 says:

Impressed that Unai spoke unscripted, then replied to questions taking iem’s out and in full English. In fact understood him much better than Carragher! Very measured in his responses and correctly, wouldn’t speak about individuals until he has spoken to them face to face.

  16. rico says:

    I thought so Adam.

I got the impression that Ivan and co have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes for the last few years and the final piece of the jigsaw was getting the manager.

Think it was Potter who remarked on exactly that a couple of weeks ago on here.

Seemed to me he also wanted to bottom out all the bollox the media have written too.

    Impressive I thought.

  17. Le Coq Monster says:

No pun intended in not taking the piss out of our Dick, I will support him if until it starts to go tits up.

Kk doesn`t know who Dick Emery is !…………………….you must be the youngest HHer then !… 🙂

  18. Wavy says:

Judgement day will be next May! As old Arsene always asserted!
I think Ivan did a good salesman’s job in selling Unai to the fans. He seems to have all the qualities and history to make a good fist of the coach”s job at the Arsenal. Whether he’ll develop the club and players into a top 4 side or not, only time will tell. Our first indicator of what he’s about is who is acquired and who is fired from the squad before the season starts. The opening signs of his commitment and energy seem to be all well placed. However, we’ll see.
He’s got my vote, for now, at least. To win me over totally, and I suspect most other supporters, he must get better results and provide exciting and fluid football that will put us in with a better than good chance of winning some of the glittering prizes.
We are all living in hope and ingredient that was rather lost during the last few years of the Wenger era. And hope is everything. So far so good though!

  19. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Hello
I couldn’t forget he lost French League to Monaco two years ago.
Judge in May if he still there…

  20. rico says:

He did Adam, nice of him to apologise for his English although he didn’t need to as it was better than some English people I’ve known ?

Jm, does that really prove anything though?

  21. micko says:

rico, thought a noticed a crease in his suit during the press conference, never would have happened under Wegner.

If he knows how to organise a defence we should get of to a flyer, reasons to be cheerful at last !

  22. micko says:

Would like to think a lot of our squad will come back playing out of their skins now, either that or be part of the summer clear out……breaking up is hard to do ! The comfort blanket has been binned at last.

  23. Le Coq Monster says:

Have to say I`m impressed with what Dick came out with, mainly, high pressing when we dont have the ball, what I`ve wanted for years !

Our man Gazidis said that Arsenal are a self sufficient club ( we all know this anyway) and that the manager (inc Wenger) had/has what money is in the bank and that seeing as Arsenal are a PLC anyone can look it up.

Last report was for the year ending 30th Nov` 2017 and we have £137.6M cash in the bank, so if I/we take Gazidis for his word then it`s that amount which is available to Dick and obviously more if he sells some players……………………he already has the wages of Santi at his disposal !……………………..

Carry on Dick !………………………..incase Kk doesn`t understand that, it was a Carry On film ! 🙂

    In Dick We Trust.

And I haven`t forgot about you Kroenke !

    Kroenke Out !

    🙂

  24. Le Coq Monster says:

Last amount I could find for Mansour City was end of 2016 season when they had £56M in the bank !………………how the fcuk do they manage to spend so much with less than we have ?

    😉

  25. Le Coq Monster says:

Interesting read…………………..and highlights that we have the most valuable fixed assets of any club in the world along with the lowest debt of any team in the league !……………………….all that and still Kroenke has invested ……………………….£0………………which because he`s a yank equats to even less $`s ……………..hahaha

    https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/5266342/manchester-city-world-finance-list-arsenal-psg-manchester-united/

  26. Le Coq Monster says:

Hey Rico boss woman……………put all my comments together and it is probably enough for the 700 words and we can have the headline I suggested !……………….

    😆

  27. Obi says:

Imho, approximately 75% of coaching success depends on players buying into the coaching philosophy, 20% is talent and 5% is luck. I think the problem with Emery at PSG was that the players did not buy into his philosophy and refused to play for him.

The Neymar/ Cavani issue aside, his biggest problem was the fact that he wanted to bench Tiago Silva – for a younger player, I think Kimpembe – and the Brazilian/ South American players rebelled against him. So instead of benching Tiago he didn’t. This became an issue for other players; so man management could be an issues at arsenal also given that some of the players who do not always give a 100% effort (Ozil, Iwobi) or with deteriorating skills (Kos, Cech, Mustafi) may need to be benched. We all have seen what “player power” can do in modern day football. With that aside, I hope he is successful, so he can bring Arsenal fans all over some much needed joy.

  28. rico says:

I’m of the view that our players have been bored to tears with what has been going on both off and on the pitch for a long time which is why they have been performing as badly as they have. Imo, they’ll buy into Emery and his football very quickly and we’ll see vast improvement as the season goes on.

  29. Le Coq Monster says:

I will bang that drum, Rico, until he finally goes !……………………………………….I hear the sound …………..of distant drums………..far away……..far away…………..well, only just down the road in Cornwall !…………………..
    😆

Have to admit though Rico, a good read (if you read it ) about how well off we are with a debt of £8M…………………….is it a coincidense that was the same amount as Wengers wages ? hahaha

  30. Kk says:

    LC lol. .
That’s dick emery was awful but I do like him..??..
I suppose it would be nice if Stan digs deep into his pocket, but I thought AFC has always been a self sustained business even before he took over..

I think we should at least spend what the club has in reserves before we look into that.
The squad needs major overhaul. .almost all the players suffers from the condition now known as chronic wengeritis. .it’s a debilitating condition requires time and careful management to eradicate.

It’s too late for some of them and ablative surgery is the only option.
    Over to you Dr Emery.?

    Night rico
    Night gooners
