Better than watching the internationals..?

Morning all.

At least that’s almost a week of this boring break over and done with. Ramsey scored for Wales last night, Guendouzi embarrassed all the senior players in the squad by scooping up the Arsenal Player of the Month award and Mesut Ozil has been telling us how exciting yet nerve wracking it was when he first met Zidane. The latter is no great surprise really as we all have our own heroes we worship and I know if I met mine, I’d be as nervous as heck. I had the chance actually one day many years ago but at the last minute I bottled it. I think fear took over really as all I could think about was what if the police turned up and whisked me away for stalking. The posh people of Wimbledon don’t like fans turning up outside players homes which they’re rented for two weeks. No, it wasn’t John McEnroe, I’d already cheesed him off earlier in the tournament after sneezing as he was about to serve.

Anyway, the reason I mention Ozil and Zidane is because tomorrow our legends take on Real Madrid with both sides full of world class players. Well, they were in their time but that was a few years ago now. Most wont have lost their ability but they’ll just do what they do a bit slower. You know, a bit like Xhaka does now.

From The Arsenal Player – Ozil has picked a five a side team from both clubs:

“I’ll start with Madrid. “I think Zidane of course, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ramos, Raul… that’s already four or five. And obviously Casillas. Those players are legends and played a lot of games for the club, and won everything with the club.

I could also say Roberto Carlos, Guti or Ronaldo, the Brazilian one, but I didn’t play with them. They’ve had really, really good players in the past.

“For Arsenal, it would be Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, Ljungberg and the goalkeeper would be David Seaman. That’s my legendary team for Arsenal.”

Not a defender to be seen in the Arsenal five, funny eh!

Tomorrows match kicks off at 2pm and it’s being shown live on the official Arsenal website. Back in June Real Madrid beat us 2-1 so our old boys will be out to level things up. Both matches are in aid of charity so I think it’s a great idea, anything the game does for a good cause always gets the thumbs up from me.

The likes of Freddie Ljungberg and Robert Pires of the ‘Invincibles’ to Roberto Carlos and Fernando Morientes from Real. Sol Campbell, Ray Parlour, Lauren and Gilberto Silva are likely to feature for Arsenal, with Guti and Xabi Alonso reportedly set to wear the famous white strip.

I’d imagine tickets are still available on Arsenal.com. What a great match to watch for all football fans, especially those of Arsenal and Real Madrid. Better than a boring international fixture full off players who put money before the game. The guys who turn out tomorrow, we’ll, perhaps not Anelka, played football because they loved the game and had pride in what they did for the club they did it for. Not forgetting their respective countries…

If you’re going to The Emirates, and I wish I was, have a great afternoon watching some of the best players to have ever played the game..

    Morning all.
    Rico,
Much better you post about those legends than these bloody Internationals.
As for heroes-I got to finally see one live in concert early this year, and it was one massive buzz!!!
As for a Sporting hero-Sean is a decent chance of meeting Dennis when he heads to the Netherlands next week-fingers are crossed.
They’re the two and while I didn’t meet the first one, seeing him live was pretty damn good and if Sean happens to get a picture with the great man, that’ll be even better than me meeting him, I reckon!!

Hi Andrew, it was Paul Weller.
Brilliant performer, and at his tender age, sounded better at the end than he did at the start.

    Evening all and thanks Rico.

Cant wait for The Stagnation Cup games to be over and back to proper stuff.

This link says it all for me why Wenger failed…………….the arrogance of thinking his style of football would beat all !

Whether he succeeds or fails, Dick is a proper football coach who respects the opposition.

LC, his style was fine when he had a brilliantly talented squad.
He never changed, though, even when he had lesser quality players and that was his downfall, imo.

I just saw the stats that show Cech is the 4th most efficient and accurate keeper in the League playing our from the back, and has made the most passes by any keeper easily.

Scott, that just shows how misleading stats can be. Cech has made the most passes because he frequently passes to his centre backs who have no option open to them other than to pass the ball back to him, and so the cycle continues. Most of the time it’s not entirely his fault, frequently the centre backs are way to deep and are pressed by the oppositions forwards, yet Cech continues to pass to them when the better thing to do is to kick the ball up-field and relieve the pressure. No doubt his excuse is “I was only following orders”!

    Cicero, hi mate.
They didn’t mislead me, just surprised me.
I’m astounded that his lack of ability with his feet hasn’t seen him focus on banging it long, but it does show how poor some of the other keepers are, and perhaps all clubs need to play to their strengths.
    Morning all.

Guys, I’m away this week and there’s no internet as it’s crashed, should be fixed tomorrow or Tuesday. I don’t fancy sitting in Waitrose just to get their Wi-fi until then. In any case, I can’t not then go in and buy something…

Catch up in a couple of days all being well..

The ladies are doing okay just now. They are leading 4-0 at half time against the dippers! I think they made a few good investments over the summer and are now reaping the rewards!

I wonder if the men will do as well?

Sunny intervals here and quite warm.

Evening all and it`s hot hot hot !………………………just back from Plymouth with my grandson, I bought him an Arsenal kit and boots for his birthday. I did`nt like the third kit when I saw it on line, but changed my mind when I saw it in pre-season game. Grandson chose it and he looks the dogs in it ! 🙂

Right, off for a high intensity training session on the spin bike, will do 10 miles but wont move an inch !……………….but will sweat more than Kroenke`s wallet at the thought of spending money on a player !
    🙂

If I may get a word in edgeways ! 🙂

Just read an article that said for the first time at The Ems Arsenal didn`t water the pitch against Man City in an attempt to stifle their passing game, OK, it didn`t work result wise, but I like it that Dick tried something Wenger would have never tried !………………….try to level the playing field against superior opponent`s ……………personally I would have done what Pulis did at Stoke and left the grass 1 ft high, then played hoof ball !

More dark arts Dick and you will go up even more in my estimation……….take a leaf out of my book, when I play the grandchildren at Monopoly I keep the photocopier hidden beside me so I can print more money.

We are in transition both as a club and tactically, but my furry fiends so are The Chavs, they have gone from a defensive coach to a pressing game coach aswell (quote Ruddiger), yet they are flying !……….hasn`t took them long !………………………….just thought I`d post that to maybe start a discussion, but feel free to carry on having a nap !………………………Kev probably does that as he has one of those driverless Taxi`s with a mannequin Kev sat in the front asking a tip !
