Benzema and Cahill in? Or just another window of dissapointment?? Spill Arsene!!

Season over…

And what a shocking one it was in the end….

Let me highlight something which has been in the media, something which may be relevant at our club and the problems within…..

A couple of weeks ago, me and the Mrs was watching Piers Morgan’s programme on television, his  guest was John Prescott the ex deputy Prime Minister! I must admit, this man is not one of my favourite people but I started to watch regardless.

I was quite surprised to hear that this once powerful Politician had a ten-year eating disorder and after gorging himself, he used to make him self sick to relieve the bloated feeling he felt.

He also went on to talk about his affair with an aide in his office. He wanted to apologise to his wife publicly while she was sat in the audience.

He explained that his affair ‘just happened’ and slowly.

He admitted how stupid he had been and how he loved her today, he now realises what a fool he was and how much he appreciates her loyalty.

Strange, it took 3 years of liaisons before he felt guilty!

It may of not helped that the woman that he had been seeing had decided to sell her story and made it public.

Now this story made me think of the Arsenal, why I am not really sure.

But I feel that supporters have been kept in the dark for to long, we have been supportive, we turn up and do what we consider to be our duty, we support through thick and thin but, just like Prescott’s wife, we get s**t on.

Prescott, always being a staunch Labour man, is now in a job that a few years ago he would have scoffed at but when a position in the house of Lords was offered, he readily accepted the offer, that seems to be the way the man is!

Now I am not casting dispersion over our present manager but personally, I haven’t waited three years like Mrs Prescott, I’ve waited six years. Six years of empty of promises and I now feel our manager must come clean.

Surely it is time for Arsene Wenger to explain publicly what his game is?

Is he bigging up targets so that fans renew their season tickets, or his he really going to be ‘very active in the transfer market’ and finally add some experience to our squad in the areas we need?

Has he got a hidden agenda?

If he has, come out and tell us or maybe he should think about moving on, allow a new man to come in and endeavour to put his wrongs right. I for one can remember Arsenal in a better light than they are in at the moment and I want them back!

Six years in my opinion is too long to wait for success. The Emirates is a sixty thousand seater stadium with gate receipts of £3million for every home game and in my opinion, with that kind of income we should be able to afford better players than the present Manager is employing.

Supporters have started to stay at home, go to the pub or anywhere rather than attend The Emirates, empty seats were clear to see during our last home game against Aston Villa, surely if things don’t change for the better, this will just become the norm?

Arsenal and Arsene Wenger – please change your views, your policies and certainly the way you perform in the transfer window. I believe you have one transfer window left, either come clean and move on, or buy what we really need to progress…..

Just one transfer window, just one to prove that you do care about the fans, but more importantly, prove that you really do care about OUR club, the club we all support and love…..

Are the club really thinking of buying big, or is it just another game being played in the media by Wenger? He has deliberately not brought the quality players that we all believe we should have a few seasons ago why do some think he is about to change his ways?

He has talked about ‘the possibility of signing  Benzema’, we have heard things about Cahill and other good players, but will we just end up with Oxlade-Chamberlain, Squillaci the 2nd or similar?

If it’s the latter and a few other players we have never heard of, fans won’t be happy will they?

Everything at Arsenal seems to be increasing when it comes to cost but one thing that doesn’t look to be on the increase is quality and experience in our players. In fact, any quality and experience we do have are linked to a move away over the next few weeks.

At least they were cheaper back then, look what they cost now!!

So right now things look a bit grim and if it stays the same, it will cost a lot more money to watch a less attractive side and as Paul Merson said after the Aston Villa game….

If you had a dress shop and couldn’t sell your dresses, You wouldn’t put your prices up would you.

Precisely Paul………

Joaquim Moreira left this comment last night, it’s very interesting and no doubt why AW chooses Austria…

Austria is a great place to “oxygenate” to recover physically and gain endurance. It is a local mountain in the middle of woods, with healthy air, mild temprature and moisture away from London, the daily routine. Malaysia and China have a horrible climate, very damp, intense heat that is not meant to “oxygenate”and gain physical freshness. It’s just a matter of marketing and deployment location.

  2. rico says:

    Morning all –

Nice one Steve, I didn’t realise that stuff about Presscott, mind you…

Anyway, as for Wenger, I seem to be a little less positive the last few days, Wenger doesn’t ‘talk targets’ so the more he speaks about players, the less i believe we will sign him..

Especially Benzema and prob even Cahill….

    🙁

  3. Northern Gooner says:

If he has a hidden agenda it would be very stupid of him to “come out and tell us” as you say: what is the point of having a pubicly known hidden agenda?

  4. rico says:

What do you reckon his hidden agenda is Northern Gooner?

More young unknowns…. or are we in for a surprise signing or two??

  5. Northern Gooner says:

I dont claim he has a hidden agenda, Mr. Palmer does. My point was just that it wouldn’t be a hidden agenda if he told us what this agenda was, and that would be stupid if he had a hidden agenda… I dont know what to expect from Wenger any more, I am very ambivalent towards him: on the one hand he has changed Arsenal and the English game totally, but on the other hand he seems to have lost his brilliance and become totally out of tuch with reality. I, like many others, have lost faith and lot of my interest because it seems like there will be no change, just more of the same mediocre signings and football

  6. KING gooner says:

either way whatever the “agenda”has been or will be,he is clearly in”the last chance saloon”this window,so we’ll find out soon enough because if he doesn’t fix the numerous problems & fast it’s “taxi for wenger”!

  7. rico says:

I read Steve to be saying, tell us the truth AW rather than just raise our hopes just be let down at the end of the summer..

If AW is not looking to buy players of great quality, don’t start telling the media he is…

Fans are not his toy, he needs to start telling the truth, he promised us a CH in Jan, who did he buy? Mr N.O. Body….

Otherwise, he should just say nothing and themn no-one gets let down….

  8. Will says:

    Some points.

I now see people are complaining that this over-seas tour is just for money. Come on people, you moaned that he went to Austria and missed out on the money Chelsea and Man Utd got on their tours and now he has said we are going, we are only going because we are money grabbing. It seems for me that we have a few damn if he does, damn if we don’t fans.

Also, we do not have a god given right to win things so can we stop with the media driven campaign of “nothing for 6 years”? I went to Highbury when we were battling at the bottom of the table so being constantly in the top 4 is a dream.

All I want are players who show fight to want to win and know what an honour it is to wear the famous red and white of The Arsenal.

  9. K-TR7 says:

Did you know nasri was the most accurate shooter in the league with 64.5% of his shots on target?we were also the most accurate shooters with 47.5% on target.this stats may look impressive but mean nuff all if most of those shots were hit straight at the GK culminating in visiting gks winning MOM awards.i prefer someone who takes a risk by aiming for the corners like rvp although it may result in a fair amount of his shots rattling the woodwork.there is no need to hit shots that lack precision.

  10. rico says:

    Hi KING,

I hope that is something ‘Arsene Knows’ too, this has to be the window he changes his ways…

  11. Steve Palmer says:

Morning all’ Northern Gooner you make some good points and maybe I could have worded a little better. We have been on the end of some horrendous refereeing decisions over the past few years, and I would say a few to many to be coincidence, I don’t know if you would agree, I don’t understand why, and I put that down to a hidden agenda somewhere, I also don’t understand some of the things Wenger does, and wonder why he does it, is that not an agenda.

  12. cin says:

AW will not do anything in this summer also as he is happy with CL birth.

We fans will be cheated again by AW words.

  13. rico says:

    Morning Kt and Will

Agree it’s not our right to win things, but its the way we were to the way we are, we could have kept some of the experience, the same players had that heart and passion, and those around them would have ‘caught on’ – who do we have now to ‘drive’ this crop onwards and upwards??

  14. K-TR7 says:

Stephen hunt had the lowest dribbling success rate beating his man only 3 times in 36 attempts…i thought it was denilson…he probably had 100% success rate as he didn’t attempt to go past a player at all and thus never failed.

  15. Northern Gooner says:

rico, I totally agree with you: Wenger should not “promiss” us world class signings when he doesnt intend to sign them. Just like Myles Palmer has said for years; Wenger is the biggest spin doctor in the history of football. Dont listen to what he says, but to what he does

  16. JOEL says:

We are all awaiting pro-active signings.Parker Cahill and Benzema all make sense on so many levels. We hear that the ever disappointing Denilson and Bentner are looking to leave.Whilst Nasri and Clichy are considering their futures.

Given this speculation, any Arsenal Fan would understandably believe that a plan is in place-one that takes all these factors and more into coinsideration-but history indicates that this couldn’t be further from the truth!Wouldn’t it make more sense to get involved in the Transfer Market before Citeh,Chelsea, and United start inflating prices.

Bring in Cahill to bolster the Defence;Parker to give the squad a backbone and some leadership qualities;Benzema to show that we ARE able to stand side by side with Europe’s Top Teams. At the same time this would show Cesc and Samir that Arsenal are going to be able to compete with the best-with or without them! But,since Gazidas’ appointment Arsenal have struggled to tie up any transfer dealings with any form of expediency. So we will wait and wait..probably see an obscure Argentinian and another 18 year old turn up;watch a steady steam of “links” march into Manchester,Liverpool and every other part of London;and read about our best players looking for “New Challenges”!

I’m still hoping that I might be proved wrong but just as Arsenal managed to finish forth in a two horse race ;so they will continue to lag behind their main competitors and only realise that things need to change once it’s a little too late!!

  17. rico says:

I’m glad we are off to asia for the pre-season tour, it’s the only way we can generate the kind of money we need to keep up. I didn’t realise about the atmosphere there though in comparrison to Austria.

Asia should test their fitness I guess… 😉

  18. rico says:

    Morning Steve,

    Blame me 😉

Northern Gooner, i gave up believing him a while ago but as long but this time he seems to sure that he’s going to be busy this window, let’s hope he is truthing this time round…

    July 1st sems a long way away….

  19. K-TR7 says:

Nzogbia attempted 301 dribbles this season the highest in the league.Guttierez was 2nd with 219.in the past two seasons Nzogbia has attempted 554 dribbles with only Bale coming close with 259.

  20. Goona says:

In the past year or two we have become a SERIAL LOSER of vital points and like yours truly many other Gooners know very well that we were taken on a rollercoaster ride to a play off for a European spot where a month or two ago the world was our oyster providing we didn’t fall off and fall off we did big time losers without so much as a whimper.
No wonder Gooners have lost confidence especially when the boss has money to spend but will he spend it? he sez he’s going too but will he? I mean spend only on the top quality players and not just a few cheapies just to keep the board happy.
I’ll believe only on these so called bigger signings when and if they happen..We’ve had a very disappointing season which promised so much, better than a lot of other clubs i’ll admit but this is Arsenal F.C. 6 years of drought.
I said this on another blog the other day and got accused of having no faith of being anti Arsenal and that fellow Gooners couldn’t be further from the truth……

  21. K-TR7 says:

Rvp scored every 98.2 minutes in the league which was the highest ratio last season.if assists are taken into account he contributed a goal every 50/60 (not sure of exact value) minutes.as of March he contributed to a goal every 52 minutes.

  22. Lee says:

Let’s cut AW some slack, the windows not even open yet and the media band-wagon is rolling! I think we’ll be surprised by the new recruits…

  23. rico says:

    Goona,

i think we pretty much believe that here too, we’ll only believe a big signing if/when we see it, personally i don’t expect any big signings – but maybe middle of the road ones like Cahill & Samba..

  24. arsenal fan says:

i think he will get one big signing
also heard that if nasri departs then wenger could sign hazard as replacement!!!!

  25. rico says:

i wouldn’t be surprised if Wenger looked at Nzogbia Kt

    Hi Lee,

i don’t think wenger is getting too much of a hard time, for me i just don’t believe what he says about Benzema but I do think he’ll sign players. Sadly, his little muck up over the last 4/5 seasons is coming back to bite him on the butt… 😉

  26. rico says:

    Lee,

That’s just it, they would do for me, big time. I’ve always thought we don’t need the 50M or even £35Miliion players, Cahill and Samba together would cost the same as Benzema..

What do we need more? Two defenders or one striker?

  27. Gooner4life&beyond says:

Nicely put, that’s part of the problem as well. Some fans rightly point out that we have had longer barren spells in our history, but other fans explain that things have changed.

We have a huge fancy stadium, exorbitant (such a great word, I hope I did it justice) ticket prices, and yet our top star is likley 23 year old Fabregas who we pilfered (another nice one, slightly antiquated) from Barca.

Or maybe it’s Van Persie, a £4m bargain from Feyenord, who’s finally just about had enough injury free time to show he is a real gem.

I dunno, who’d be an Arsenal supporter eh? Respect to anyone who has fallen in love with and decided to support Arsenal during recent seasons.

  28. alan b'stard M P says:

RVP is great. Perhaps a fellow Dutch striker for us so RvP could coordinate better Sneijder perhaps? Too much money sadly

  29. rico says:

I tend to agree re RvP, great player, in fact i’d say he’s our best but he gets injured so often to be relied on for a whole season – we need another quality player to give us the goals he does when he’s not fit..

Just think what could have happened had he not returned….

  30. Gooner4life&beyond says:

What is the point of talking about N’Zogbia? That is yet ANOTHER player who came out and said I want to play for Arsenal, please come and get me, let me lick your balls Arsene.
Only to be ignored and overlooked, after which they start begging to all the other clubs they can think of till they move.

  31. rico says:

Arsenal have finalised the capture of Barcelona starlets Jon Toral and Hector Bellerin.

Barca have been left fuming at losing two of their latest top talents from their ‘Cadet’ squad.

Barcelona offered the 16-year-olds contracts at Camp Nou, but both have decided their futures would be best served in England.

Arsenal agreed a deal for central midfielder Toral – who has an English mother – earlier in the year and they have now followed that up by finalising a deal for the equally highly-rated Bellerin.

The young forward, also 16, had offers from Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa but he instead opted to move to Arsenal, a path a number of players have now opted to take when leaving Barca.

In recent years, the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Fran Merida and Ignasi Miquel have all left Catalunya for Colney.

Both Toral and Bellerin have signed five-year deals with Arsenal and Arsene Wenger is sure to be delighted to have landed two of Spain’s brightest young prospects.

The deals were completed ironically as Barca’s senior squad trained at Arsenal ahead of their UEFA Champions League final clash with Manchester United this Saturday.

  32. rico says:

    alan,

we have our own dutchman waiting in the wings, he’s meant to be the mutts nutts 😉

    Kyle Ebecilio

  33. Gooner4life&beyond says:

Rico, OMG. Why’d you remind me? At that time Valencia were broke, they were only looking for about £17m.

  34. alan b'stard M P says:

You know that Arsenal youth team looks like it has no English youth in it

    Another generation of foreigners

  35. W.A.T.H says:

Morning all, nice post Steve, my take is the hidden agenda is the spin to generate ST renewals nothing more, he’s done similar the last few seasons so nothing new and if he was actually in for Benzema the last thing you do is go tell the media you just go do it…!

  36. rico says:

alan, was kidding, yes he is meant to be good, but he’s 17 i think 😉

G4L – I know, and he said he wanted to join us, what did Wenger do… Look away, that’s what he did but back then i guess it was all about paying debts off…..

In fact – it still is isn’t it …. 🙁

  37. Gooner4life&beyond says:

Rico, I think so. If we really had money free, would Wenger really be that dumb not to spend it? I just don’t see it, there’s stubborn, then there’s mental retardation. I think our scouts need an upgrade though.

  38. Danish Gooner says:

I dont wanna sound like an pompous twat but if he do have a hidden agenda he is probably not gonna spill it to anyone,it is hidden you know !!!

  39. Stephen says:

Don’t judge Wenger by what he says, judge him by what he does. When he addresses the media I would suggest he often has a hidden agenda – eg, when he says he admires Benzema that might be because he is a friend of the player, it may be he want’s to buy him, or he is trying to buy Falcao and want’s to talk down the price, or he is saying to NB52 next season you could be further down the pecking order so get on your bike now. Whatever it is we won’t know until the window closes.

  40. W.A.T.H says:

Thing is DG it’s hardly a hidden agenda when we know what he’s trying to do he’s done it for yrs now…. He obviously just thinks we’re all still gullable and the funny thing is thousands still are..!

  41. W.A.T.H says:

What it actually means is he’s getting his excuses lined up already Stephen for when the window closes and we ain’t bought anyone, he will say well i was so close to Benzema,Cahill,Samba,Hazard but the price was a little to high and we have quality in the youth and if i buy i kill the youth……… Wonder where we heard that b4..!

  42. Stephen says:

    Yes that’s another alternative I didn’t mention.

See – you’re getting the hang of this very quickly.

  43. W.A.T.H says:

None of us need to be Einstien to get it do we…. He’s been preaching this crap for years…! We need to see actions not listen to drivel anymore.

  44. Lee says:

WATH, and the “like a new signing” when someone comes back from injury….all pretty tedious!

  45. W.A.T.H says:

It’s why I’m surprised he played TV the last two games Lee, he can’t now use him in August as a new signing surely 😉

  46. Joaquim moreira says:

    Good morning !
Can someone tell me what is/are English clubs interested in the player Leadro Damião, from International Porto Alegre, Brazil?

  47. W.A.T.H says:

Hi JM, I saw his name mentioned before but have not seen any links in the papers mentioning him and any English teams. Maybe someone else has seen something?.

  48. arsenal fan says:

we are even linked with falcao…
but whats the difference btw him n chamakh on the other hand chamakh has cl experience.

  49. W.A.T.H says:

One was free the other would cost a fortune………

Ah nice one Rico…. smart arse 😛

I see Usmanov been snapping up more shares…!

  50. rico says:

    😆 Lee, i think so….

Our website makes me laugh, big countdown on the player of the season. Almost like we had a wonderful season, i’m only interested about next season 😉

  51. W.A.T.H says:

We’ve bought 2 x 16yr olds, a 19yr old ( thats the experience we were after by the way ) and now for the 2/3 16yr olds at a fiver from the Congo…! That’s our transfers done then.

  52. Joaquim moreira says:

    News:
The representative of the Colombian striker, Claudio Mossi confirmed that Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in securing the employment of advanced FC Porto.
“Arsenal and Tottenham are two clubs interested in hiring him and has submitted a proposal for Falcon, ” Claudio Mossi revealed in statements in the English press.
The manager also confirmed the intention of FC Porto in trying to renew his contract and increasing the termination clause: “The club have to pay the clause has a good chance to secure his signature. However, FC Porto are interested in renewing his contract and raise the termination clause. ”
The chance to play in Italy also exists, but acknowledged that Claudio Mossi is further complicated by the Community is not advanced.

  53. alan b'stard M P says:

Hi Rico, yes fingers crossed, but I can’t see it happening. To purchase these guys is against the business model of the board

They won’t pay for decent players that cost them

However, I hope I’m wrong and Wenger proves I’m wrong

  54. Joaquim moreira says:

a)Fulham will attend the next edition of the Europa League, having won the prize ‘Fair Play’ UEFA.
UEFA analyzed the performance of all the clubs at home and abroad and gave one more seat in European competitions in England and also Norway.
Fulham only had one player sent off in the last game against Arsenal.
    (and to late… :-))
b)Although the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is committed to ensuring the successor to Carlo Ancelotti, the owner of Chelsea defends the immediate recruitment of young advanced Lukaku, Anderlecht.
According to the Daily Mail, Abramovich talked to members of his “staff” and approved the hiring of Lukaku of 18 years, although not yet secured a new coachChelsea would be willing to offer about 23 million pledge by the Belgian, but Anderlecht will be asking about 34.5 million. .
(Drogba out… Torres out ?? Lukaku is a good player but is expensive)
c)The goalkeeper for Atletico Madrid, David De Gea, denied Thursday that he had signed for Manchester United.
In a statement released by attorney player to the Spanish press, the young keeper says he will not consider any offer to renew the athletic contract or any other club until the end of June, when it ends the UEFA European Under-21.
Gea will thus deny Alex Ferguson who had said this Wednesday that the Atletico goalkeeper was close to signing by the Red Devils to replace Van der Sar, who will quit football after the finals of the Champions League.

  55. rico says:

WATH, you old cynic you, what on earth would make you believe in such things…

mme, let me think, Arsene Wenger 😉

  56. arsenal fan says:

manu signing de gea is quite emminent they know how to get players signed for big moey while we know to to bargain for average players….

  57. rico says:

alan, i think it will be Samba, £10M should get him…

Hi JM, we need to go and snap Drogba up, he’s got another couple of seasons in him yet 🙂

  58. rico says:

we don’t need de gea, they are in dire need of a keeper, they can’t afford to leave that til the end of the season…

  59. rico says:

Viktor Kassai is the ref for Saturday, could be fun for Barca, he booked Vela in the CL for diving, after he’d been hacked down….

Barca could end up with five on the pitch 🙂

Don’t tell me he has not been hand picked to ensure the Mancs win…

  60. W.A.T.H says:

Have you seen the Lansbury faces Arsenal exit story…..
That will be piss poor if true, we have had to endure 150 games of that twat denilson and Lansbury doesn’t even get a chance…..!

  61. alan b'stard M P says:

Any money Wenger will be invited onto the board to continue this legal but disastrous method of running a club

  62. rico says:

No WATH, where is that, i will be gutted, the poor kid has not been given a F*****g chance with us…

  63. rico says:

just seen it, he’s in the same boat as Clichy and Nasri, sign a new contract or be sold….

They are not taking any chances on losing players for free i guess, you’d have thought the club would have learned that a long time ago….

I thought he signed a contract extension back in 2009/10??

  64. rico says:

They should have done that years ago, how many have we lost on a free?

    Gilberto
    Flamini
    Merida
    Gallas

I’m sure there are many more…

  65. arsenal fan says:

hey anyone seen the pic on twitter in which pique and puyol hold a picture of fabregas on our training ground it is on twiter!!!

  66. rico says:

I’m off for dinner then a chill out evening…

Be good all and catch you tomorrow…

    Nighty….
