Beat the top clubs? We need to start beating those below….

Morning all.

Mesut Mania continues and the latest player to voice his view is our very own Santi…. He’s been talking to Marca:

I am very happy that Özil is here. He is a spectacular player and we are very lucky that we are going to learn alongside him.

I don’t understand that (why Real Madrid sold him), he is a unique player.

You will have to ask the club for reasons why they sold them, but at the same time he didn’t think he was getting the opportunities he deserved and luckily he has come to us.

He is an important player and he is going to be very good for the team and the way we play. I hope he can help us fight against the big teams in the Premier League.

I always find it quite funny to read things relating to us beating the so called big teams. Of course we need to be beating those sides who sit at the top of the league season after season but what about those who are mid/bottom half of the table clubs?

Last season we dropped points against:

Sunderland

Stoke

Norwich

Fulham

Aston Villa

Everton (Twice)

Swansea

Southampton

Liverpool

And of course, the neighbours at their ground.

All in all, that was a huge 25 points!

Winning the Premier League isn’t only about beating the top sides, by beating those below us we will always remain somewhere around the top 3/4.

Of course we need to win a few more matches against the Manchester sides and Chelsea but where we seriously let ourselves down last season was in fixtures we really should be winning.

Not only in the league did we struggle but in both domestic cups. We were knocked out by clubs from lower leagues and we really were poor during both.

If Mesut Ozil helps us to beat them all, then things will be very rosy. Somehow, I think it will take a lot more than just one man signing on the dotted line.

Talking of the messiah, he has landed at Arsenal.

Welcome...
Welcome…

I’ll be glad when he’s played his first game and things calm down…..

Until then, have a good day……

Morning all, Who was the mystery player talking Rico did i miss some thing. So far we have lost to one club and to be honest that was down to a Referee’s decision. We beat Fulham and we beat the Spuds all teams below us from last season, and still below us this season. Mesut Ozil never helped in any of those games and he also never helped us qualifi for Champions Leage either, and also believe it or not helped us get top 4 last season, so in my mind its not what Ozil can give us its what we can give Ozil. He may be a very good player but he is just a team player not the Messia. £42and a half mill is not his Valuation its the club that sold him and why did they if he’s so good, only time will tell.

Morning all, totally agree we need to beat those below us but the last few years its so depressing knowing before we go on to the pitch that man u are going to win the game. Even when they had the league won last year we couldn’t win at our place when we desperately needed the points. We need that winner mentality back in the squad and I just hope the signing of ozil is the kick start we need.

good post, hi guys. We really do have to remember he is just one player and we’re an injury away from being back to square one, apart from Flamini of course who might just turn out to be a great help but no convinced with players back he’ll be a auto starter

Just read that Ozil’s father is considering suing ‘whoever’ for the comments about his son wanting to go to Man utd…

Good read.we really need to improve that record.

I’ve always maintained we don’t need a speciaist DM. Its ironic that goal.com have written a very good article on the matter that is worth a read for any gooner

    🙂 Wath, no such joy…

    Thanks Oz, Kt…

My point is, for those who are missing it, to improve on last season’s position, it’s not only the top sides we need to be beating..

    Morning all,

I have to agree with your post. Yanited have won titles by not taking 6 points from most of their title contenders in the past… in their treble winning season we took 4 points from them…

Chelsea this season tipped to be champions went to Old Trafford with the most negative 4-6-0 formation ever played by a CL winning team. Jose was expecting a point only but with the hope of knicking 3 points from a set-piece or sheer luck. In the end we will find out if the point at Yanited was 2 points dropped or 1 point won…

  8. tsgh says:

Oz, I have to agree with your 10:36 comment.

Ozil is a very laid back character and I am concerned most fans may think he does not care too much because of his body language and his traits that include him sitting on the pitch for minutes fixing his white arm band or tying and untying his boot laces…

Ozil also keeps things very simple for such a natural or world class no.10. Ozil. In most cases he will recycle the ball backwards instead of just going forward for the sake of it. He does not have or perform the darting runs English fans prefer; such as when players like JW and Ox may just run with the ball into no man land in the spirit of going forward…

Morning Ginge, Ozil is a record signing, i can remember when Arshavin joined and how supporters expected miracles from him. They will expect more from him than can be expected and of course every pundit who has his say will have an opinion. Laid back or not he will certainly have pressure on him. Sanogo was a free supporters expected nothing from him and still dont but Ozil was a signing that supporters have waited for for an eternity. Back passes will not go down well we have a team of them all ready. 🙂

  10. ozgunner says:

tsgh 11.34. I agree mate and he will cop a fair share of stick from the press as the season progresses. He’s a thinker on the pitch and his quality gives him that time. Not something we’re used to in the EPL ha! We will be looking for his movement and invention and am sure he will bring plenty of both. There was quality and intelligence around him at Madrid, for him to be effective he will need the same at Arsenal

  11. tsgh says:

Sp1, funnily enough Arshavin made his debut vs Sunderland and it ended 0-0. Also Santi, Poldi & Giroud vs Sunderland last season and it also ended 0-0. hmmm

  12. tsgh says:

Ozil: ‘It feels great, I feel very good here. I’m sure the boss will improve me and I’m proud to be part of the team’

  13. HenryB says:

SP1 has a good point in that Ozil will carry the weight of expectation on his shoulders.

However, the praise he has received from past and present footballers all over Europe, and the astonishment expressed by so many that RM let him go means he has every possibility of doing the biz for us.

One man does not make a team on his own, but we have some other good players too and together they have got to be better than we were without him.

    Another good Post, Rico, thanks.

  14. tsgh says:

It looks like AW has got as many ‘shoes’ as Agag… 🙂

Those white trainers must be from chav-ville though. 😛

  15. Wavy says:

    Nice one Rico.
On the RM vilification of Ozil, since his untimely departure from them I have the following take on this abuse! Vis, in part it has to do with FFP, the sale of Higuain + the sale off Ozil = £77m approx +any other lesser players they sold or got off the payroll during the TW minus £72m or £86m they paid for the monkey they come out about even, fair business. However, RM would never admit that they had to balance the books or even accede to the suggestion that the only way to buy Bale was to sell to cover the cost for yet another gallactico. Furthermore I believe the bottomless spanish banks do not have the wherewithal to “give” them cash to buy whomsoever they fancy, anymore. To cover RMs embarrassment they have constructed a series of ‘stories’ concerning Ozil to show him in a very bad light and so justifying their sales policy. Arguably Ozil was their most valuable jewell and so commanded the best price, we had cash up front, a staged deal would not have done, and hence we bought and they sold but are now trying all sorts, to save face. I guess if their fans reaction had been less critical and players’ too, their strategy to show MO11 in such a negative light, would not have occurred. Just my opinion of course.

Finally, of Wenger’s trainers; My research shows that old men who have velcro fastenings do so because they can no longer manage to tie shoelaces sufficiently well to keep their shoes on their feet! Is it arthritis of just stiffening of the finger joints? Tempus fugit!

I think they look rather smart , I shall consider a pair to get better grip on my mobility scooter can you get them in Town and Country, winter spec or just standard road use.?

  17. frednerk says:

    Afternoon rico & all,
We have a good side when fit,
we now have a better side because
we have Ozil.. a world class player
One world class player will make a
    difference to our team,
listen to our players bragging about Ozil
listen to the Real players moaning.
Ozil is streets ahead of most players,
    when linking play.
Ozil will give our players a certain lift.
He will also attract the better player to us.

Not saying the trophys are coming,
but we now have a better chance with Ozil.

  18. tsgh says:

    Almost time for kick-off.

A very strong line up for £4

U Macey, Bellerin, Boateng, Frimpong, Ajayi, Hayden, Ryo, Olsson, Akpom, Eisfeld, Gnabry

  19. Scott from Ozil says:

Ooohhhh, a little negativity has crept in.
Ozil is exactly the type of player that can help us beat the top teams.
People can say what they like, but we have struggled to beat those above us for a few years now.
Teamwork is whats required to beat tose below us, and a look back at results in 2013 shows we are working as a team better than we have for years.
Ozil is not god, but we do not need god.
We needed world class brought in and this guys is world class, so why are we looking for negatives?
    Give the guy a chance.
    Bring on game day.

I notice that following the U 18 game vs ManUre a few days ago, that not only did we lose Zelamem for 2 months, but we also lost Dan Crowley for 2 months….

Just like the Manc seniors, ‘lets kick the shit out of Arsenal, as the ref is weak and will do fcuk all’….

  21. tsgh says:

    Morning peeps,

I agree Kev re Yanited antics; having watched the highlights, I would say maybe Zelalem needs to play in the u-19 UEFA competition until January at least. I was surprised how little he put himself about especially without the ball. Has the promotion come too early for him?

During the u-21 game last night a few fans were wondering why Ryo is ahead of Gnabry.

Olsson will be a player and a half; I hope he will be patient; Eisfield played centrally and with Frimps and that partnership was quite good.

Bellerin looks far better on the ball but maybe needs to work on his defensive game a bit…

Its also a serious concern that players like Boateng are not developing any further tactically even though everyone can see he is an amazing player. He played left back yesterday. Trialist Iwobi was far superior tactically at CB and he comes from Charlton academy…

Is our academy that good or its just a finishing school for some, I will ask?

Toral has been injured for a while? He has grown quite a lot in the last 12 to 18 months and maybe that is the reason for some of his unknown injuries. He has a left foot and a half. I wonder of he will feature for England or Spain?
