Barcelona humiliated!!The one thing they will never achieve, don't forget that Gooners!

Morning all,

I’ve been busy at work recently, early starts and late finishes have led me to miss out on much of the recent discussion.

But I have been reading and it seems that one loss has unsettled supporters. Some are saying that Koscielny is all washed up, Diaby is like a glass doll and Giroud couldn’t hit a barn door! Mannone has had his fair share of criticism too for the goals we have conceded.

I understand that supporters are upset that we have registered our first loss of the season, but are you upset as I was, because we now have to wait another season before we can have another Invincible squad?

All football teams lose matches, that’s the nature of the game, just look at City and United. Both have spent millions but they have still lost games when you least expected it and we are no different.

Our defeat came against one of the best sides in the Premier League and I might add the only team yet to lose a game. Yes we were at home and ordinarily you would expect us to win but lets not take anything away from Chelsea, they played very sensibly and on the day they had their bit of luck. They were physical, they harried our players and we hardly had a minute to settle on the ball before a Chelsea player muscled in.

It’s my belief that every season since the Invincibles we aspire to repeat that season but let me tell you, that happens once in a lifetime and you may never see that again. Achieving what we did back then is harder to do than winning of all the trophies up for grabs, so don’t take one loss to heart.

We will come up against many good teams this season and there will be some tough games, there will be decisions for and decisions against. We will have our share of luck and we will also feel that we have been harshly treated, but that is football.

Premier League football is the hardest in the world, we attract the best footballers from all over the world as most seem to want to play in our league and that’s because it’s the best!

Make no mistake, we are building a squad of players that will compete with the best teams in the world but we wont win them all. We have seen throughout the years the dominance of Manchester United the Chelsea era and of course the Liverpool’s success but none of them have achieved what we did back in 2004.

What we have to do now is knuckle down, take that defeat on the chin and learn from it.

This team we have at the moment is fairly new, we have players bedding in and youngsters finding their way in the top flight but make no mistake we are gelling into a fine team.

It’s my belief that we have a squad of players that can win something but we will have our knock backs just like every other team throughout the season. Don’t knock our players just because we have had a bad result as I’m sure there will be more along the way, but we will definitely inflict many painful results on other teams as well.

The important thing is that we inflict more on them than they do on us and I have faith that we will.

Koscielny made a couple of mistakes in the Chelsea game, as he did on Wednesday too and Vermaelen needs to improve too, neither have become bad players overnight!

Look at the likes of young Jenkinson in only his second season, he is battling for his life knowing that Sagna the best right back in the Premier League is nearing fitness. Podolski is a resolute German that will run all day for you just like the old Volkswagen Beetle. Per Mertesacker will be back soon and I have to say admit, I thought at first he was a carthorse but he has proved me wrong.

We have without doubt the makings of a great team and they need our support throughout the bad times as well as the good, give this team the time and they will deliver, make no bones about that!

Finally a word about the ladies who yesterday battered Barcelona in the WCL 4-0, making a 7-0 overall scoreline! That result takes them into the last sixteen of the competition.

And second!! With a copy paste from yesterday.

    Morning Gunners,

    Devil

Good balanced write-up Coach, although you have been kind on Manno. He seemed nervous to me. Did you see his miss-timing frog jump straight up? What the hell? Never seen something that clownish. Even late on, he tried to rush out on a ball that fell far from the area he should be commanding.

On the Vermanator speeding into scoring position on a fragile 2-1 up, pure frustration to me. Think he felt like; kill this game now and be done with it.

On defence performance, well, Capoue would have been ideal to provide extra length on set pieces. The man is a beast in air-to-air combat. Would have covered the Diaby curse, doubled the DM position if pressure requires and still provide flexibility to change game tactics/strategy on the fly.

Furthermore Capoue would have allowed Arteta to move forward when calm distribution is needed higher up the pitch. Santi could then concentrate on making more splitting runs to draw out opposition shape and slip through his well weighed passes given time for vision when he receives balls in space. It drains much unnecessary energy if Carzola has to shake off dogs whilst ball on feet.

I believe that the headline was ‘Barcelona humiliated’, yet I see no mention of them….oh wait yeah there’s three lines at the bottom where where you mention some crap about the woman’s football team. Thanks for wasting everyone’s time,

    Morning all,

Good down to earth post there Steve. As Ak mentioned overnight, if we could start scoring more, the defensive errors would be easier to take, and to be honest, we are not scoring enough in the PL.

    Dg says,

I couldn’t agree with you more, Arteta is wasted playing so deep imho…

If Diaby really struggles with his fitness between now and Dec 31st, I really hope AW signs Capoue…

  4. rico says:

Jonathan – some of us care about the ladies results, certainly more than the Barcelona men’s team.

Arsenal are a club and the ladies are part of that!!

  5. DutchGooner10 says:

Okay no takers for third? Then it’s mine as well. On LG that would have stood as a legendary coupe. 😉

    Off to read Steve’s post.

  6. bondex says:

morning all…. good post Steve… good to see we are not all negative…. 40% of our major players a new..better days ahead i beleive.

  7. bondex says:

my time wasn’t wasted Jonathan….. any win over Barcelona brings joy even if its arsenal goats vs barca goats i don t care as far as it has Barcelona written on it..this could be the year the men’s team beat them home and away….

  8. Scott from Oz says:

    Aaaaagggghhhhhh,,Jonathon……back in your hole,lad!!
Some how i think the two minutes you “wasted” reading this post will still be the highlight of your miserable day 🙂
Steve, suffice to say you know how i feel about a positive post….cheers mate!!
I make a massive comeback tomorrow……18 years out of the game, and my mate convinces me cricket might be fun!!
    We shall see!
    Evening all.

  9. rico says:

You often get one guys, normally it’s on a weekend when the kids are allowed on the computer….

    bondex 😆 re the goats..

Thought it was a village Lee…

  10. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

Later that year, Wiley was given another United game to referee and despite sending off Kieran Richardson of Sunderland, Wiley was lambasted by Ferguson for being “fat and unfit”. The game ended 2-2.

That would be the end of Wiley’s refereeing career. Wiley, it says cryptically on his Wikipedia page, “agreed to retire” at the end of that season. Agreed with whom? No one knows.

Last season, Manchester City romped to a 6-1 win at Old Trafford, inflicting on their rivals their biggest embarrassment under Ferguson. The referee on that day was Mark Clattenburg. He sent Johnny Evans off in the second half for a clear professional foul.

There have been 34 Man United league games since that day. The number of times times Clattenburg has refereed them? Zero. Not a single one.

It seems that the FA, for whatever reason, doesn’t want Clattenburg to referee Man United games anymore. Some of us more paranoid folk may just wonder who’s behind that decision.
The FA has no hesitation to hand United games to Howard Webb though: he’s been the most used referee in 34 United games since the 6-1 defeat to City.

Webb’s history in Man United games are well known and documented. All I have to say on the matter is that more than 18% of the penalties he’s awarded in his ENTIRE premier league refereeing career have gone to Manchester United. Over a 9 year period, that’s a huge percentage.
    Referee%20Howard%20Webb_7036_1_1___Selected

So in closing, let’s resume what we’ve discovered. We have an ex premier league referee who has openly stated he was not handed a Manchester United game for 2 years after sending off one of their players. We have an FA who, in said referee’s words, don’t hand Manchester United games to referees that the United manager has previously criticized.

We have a referee who took charge of a heavy United defeat and “agreed to retire” a year later after being called unfit by Alex Ferguson. We have another referee who hasn’t been handed a United game to officiate since he reffed a heavy United defeat 34 league games ago.

Meanwhile, the most used official in United games in that time is the man who has handed 18% of his entire career penalty awards to Ferguson’s team.

Factor in the fact that Manchester United CEO is ON THE BOARD OF the English FA, Alex Ferguson is a knight of the realm with political connections that go a lot deeper than football (just read Allistair Campbell’s diaries if you don’t believe me), and the evidence in the Darren Ferguson sacking that clubs that cross Ferguson get punished by his friends, and you have all the tools there for someone more investigative than me to really delve into.

But yet, nothing happens. Year on year, I watch as not a single journalist utters a peep on the subject. I watch as decision after decision goes United’s way and people in the UK, so much better than everyone else and trusting of their institutions remember, brush them off with insouciance.

In Italy, there would have been phone tap investigations a long time ago. In “so much cleaner than everywhere else” England, we’re paranoid.

    Why is that?

Well, when you look at who runs the sport in the country, you understand a bit more. Rupert Murdoch’s Sky live off the premier league. So do his other publications like the Sun. The English media’s last priority is going to investigate and damage one of their biggest cash cows.
    RupertMurdoch460

Imagine the hit to the revenue streams of the media and clubs if corruption is proved in the premier league? The richest league in the world, so carefully and beautifully marketed across the world, would suffer a huge blow. The effects an investigation would have on Manchester United, the cash cow’s biggest cash cow, would also be devastating.

So it’s all swept under the tabled and every refereeing decision shrugged off. “They even themselves out” we’re told by journalists who get banned from United press conferences for asking a question about team selection.

God knows what would happen to them if they investigate United’s behind the scenes dealings.

Maybe, like Preston, they’ll learn that if you cross Man United, all of football will turn their backs on you too…

  11. Potter says:

Referencing Ramsey , I would think it’s because Hodgson has called up Shawcross and Coleman blames Ramsey for him not going to Wales.

  12. Scott from Oz says:

Rico,i must say that i am hitting the ball as well as ever, not that it’s a massive feat lol.
    Still,it will be fun.
Ginger, check out Untold Arsenal if you want to see just how much intereference is done by Utd,and just how “suspicious” the PL can be.

  13. DutchGooner10 says:

Sorry Rico realy messed that up. (Copy/paste) Feel free to sweep it under the carpet. 😉

Morning Madam, Lee, TSGH, Scott, Bondex, IIMAVII.

Steve great piece to murder the moaning. Time to look onward and upwards.

  14. rico says:

Thanks potter, for us, i think him losing the armband could be good, pressure off and we could start seeing the real player again…

Especially if Weds was anything to go by…

  15. Scott from Oz says:

Bloody hope so Rico, else the comeback may be short lived lol.
They’ve even thrown the captaincy at me,which is a worry.
18 years out,and i was deemed to be the best choice??
It doesn’t fill me with confidence that i a have quality players!!
Nah,it will be a truly social outing each saturday.

  16. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

The FA is 2nd to the city of london businesses interest in this country in terms of revenue and the lack of regulation.

something has to be done about it.

  17. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

Ramsey is a fine player. He just needs to relax and play a simple game. He plays like very game is an audition.

  18. DutchGooner10 says:

TSGH fine dropping re Old Red Nose running the appointments including press louts. See the empire crumbling sooner rather then later. There’s a tipping point when you leave so many enemies in your wake. It’s past much ado about nothing.

Scott you be a fine captain. Just don’t use the bat for spanking. 😉

  19. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

DG- its like the Cosa Nostra. That is why he will never retire. The moment he retires the beans will be spilled. I can’t wait by the way. 😀

  20. hakzah says:

    morning all HHers

    great read…positive and hopeful

all in all,we started much better than last season debacle…a draw or win against chelsea and its all a different picture…but as mentioned
its only one game and have many to come. i keep the faith.

with few players coming back to fitness ,we will ‘ve strength
in depth and lots of options to rotate & keep everyone afresh.

Tsgh….good article and frightening one too !! waw..i thought its only the italian league is full of scumbags…but by the sound of that ,there might be others too….

Re Capoue,i see him playing for Toulouse Fc..and he is some player ..energy and strength , we can do with …he is a
powerhouse and someone can protect our fragile mids/defence.

or convert DJ to that role..he started there firstly… he has all the attributes to be a powerful DMF …he can sit in front of the two CBs
and give freedom to Arteta to play further up who is doing really well
but we can do with his creativity up front too.

having the options of DJ & Frimmy ,will give us some physicality
    that we lack at times.

  21. Scott from Oz says:

Im off guys….our A league has started, and a feisty game is being played…good viewing to be had.
Then, off to bed and dreams of a first up hundred….haven’t scored on in a while, after all 🙂
    See ya tomorrow night guys.

  22. Lewis says:

Morning all. Nice positive post Steve. All us goners need to start getting behind the team and stop being so critical, the Chelsea game wasn’t the result we all wanted but it could so easily have been a draw or a win. The games against the big teams can go either way as they have top players that can change games on their own.

  23. rico says:

    I can’t wait either…

Hak, Capoue is a real beast, still can’t believe we didn’t go for him in the summer, his value will go up after a good season, unless of course his contract is soon up….

  24. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

It was a poor decision Rico re captaincy I agree.

I rate Rambo higher than Cleverley even though he can be as frustrating as Kouassi.

I believe he needs to just adjust his game a lil bit to take him a step nearer to being consistent as someone like Ramires. Maybe that will come with experience because he seems to play the same way in every position in every situation which is very naive in my opinion.

  25. rico says:

2014 Capoue’s contract expires, maybe there is still hope….

Lewis, it’s not so much being critical, it is just talking about mistakes we make. We talk about the great things we do, we have to moan about the bad bits too 😉

  26. Lewis says:

West Ham and Fat Sam ‘he looks like a big frog that’s died’ Allardyce this weekend, god I hate him, he’s right up there with Pulis for me. Expect the same tactics to be employed, but its got to be no less than 3 points to the arsenal.

  27. Micko says:

    Morning all,
SteveyP, think most of us on here are pretty realistic and as much as we would like an invincible season just turning the Emirates into a fortress and going unbeaten at home would be a bloody good start.

  28. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

Lewis that man thinks he should be coaching Real Madrid with his route 1 tactics. 😀

He buys more foreigners than arsenal and complains about the state of the English national team. He and Poo-lis are pure scum. They would be a thieving benefits cheats if they weren’t football managers. Both of them are the Red Noses’s puppets who field weaken teams and change tactics when it comes to playing manure but resort to Aussie rule pub rugby when our beloveds come along.

  29. hakzah says:

    hi again all

    hi Rico & Tsgh

Rico…for me either we buy Capoue(9-10mil) or convert DJ to give us height and strength in the middle of the park..each team needs
that big figure to intimidate opposition and not to be bullied like how
    we were against the chavs.

Merts seems is back against W/Ham…good news

the schez ,still 2-3 weeks away from training ! 5-6 weeks to heal !
    longer than i hoped for.

  30. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

    Allardyce vs Wenger

    Sam’s high point – Bolton 3 Arsenal 1 (Nov 25, 2006)

Wenger had promised to match Bolton’s physical approach but Nicolas Anelka’s brace against his former club ensured Arsenal’s poor record at the Reebok continued.

    . . . and his Low point – Arsenal 6 Blackburn 2 (Oct 4, 2009)

As Wenger celebrated 13 years in charge, Arsenal put on a masterclass of flair and invention as Blackburn were put to the sword at Emirates Stadium.

Their last meeting – Blackburn 1–2 Arsenal (Aug 28, 2010)

Wenger wanted to prove that Arsenal were capable of dealing with Blackburn’s physical approach and his team showed character to come out on top at Ewood Park.

  31. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

Since Squillaci received a run-out against Norwich City U21 they are becoming very poor.

The last 3 results show Conor Henderson’s importance to the U-21

  32. rico says:

Micko, that would do me too, for starters….

JD was a Dm i think Hak, guess just not a very good one or surely AW would have done that by now?

I really hope we batter Fat Sam, Carroll is still a doubt…

  33. DutchGooner10 says:

    Hakzah

Shame JD had a stop gap function outside his comfort zone last season. He racked some applause as CB in the 2010 season. Fear him putting a transfer request in come January if not given a proper run in the squad. The DM role cold from the bench would be asked too much, imho. Although I’m also of the opinion that a professional shouldn’t need that many pats on the back to raise his confidence. Mental resilience is part of the job. Can’t hide behind it forever.

  34. DutchGooner10 says:

    Micko 😛

I always understood him playing Rodeo with his umbilical at birth to wrangle the nurses.

  35. Bob John says:

    TSGH 10.07
Nothing surprises me about refs. After all, the biggest Manc lover of all, who was responsible for the worst and in my opinion, corrupt, refereeing performance of all time ending our 49 game unbeaten run is now head of referees!

  36. Micko says:

rico, didn’t Carroll come off the bench Monday night against Qpr, Bouldy will have been earning his corn the last couple of days “Thou shalt not pass” will be ringing in a few players ear-holes you would hope.

  37. hakzah says:

    hi DG

i agree, a professional should rise to the occasion when presented to them..so much potential talked about JD but i can’t see him breaking through at the moment unless we have injury crisis(God forbid)..

Rico – i say give him a chance in the DMF role when its needed and let’s see,we can’t judge him without seeing him there. he can’t be worst than Obi ,who stopped us last weekend !

my concern and may be others too is our physique in the middle of the park..apart from oftenly injured Diaby ,we don’t have that imposing figure ,strength is vital when playing against any team and specially some like Stove city & Co

  38. rico says:

Must have been FS playing mind games then Micko, he said yesterday I think, that Carroll was not a cert…

  39. rico says:

hak, it’s not me you have to convince 😉

And you have a point, why not try him there, until we do, we won’t know and his true position is a DM isn’t it, but AW changed him…

    Very unlike our manager 😉

  40. rico says:

Wenger on a possible loan deal for Frimpong…

I do not know yet. He needs to play, so before we envisage that, he needs to play games. He is not ready yet. I have heard of Wolves’ interest, but at the moment I feel he needs to get back to a competitive edge before we plan anything for him.

I’m surprised if he goes on loan with Coquelin out injured

  41. hakzah says:

yes, will be surprised to see Frimpong loaned out..
do we have enough in that department to send him away ?
already seeing Ryo not playing enough for Wigan anyway!

hoping to see the pingpong ‘s tenacity in the middle of the park, just to give us that extra power/strength.

  42. Lewis says:

Micko, lets hope that ringing in the ears only refers to the other team and not when we have the ball 😉

  43. Will XL says:

Hi all. Anyone seen the boss’ press conference today? Speaking about gerv and Theo as centre forwards.

  44. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

    Back already Rico?

How did you manage with your needles phobia?

I am told you are covered in tattoos so I am wrong there. 😀

  45. rico says:

Me neither Tsgh, not one bit. Frimps is the only ‘proper’ DM we have, send he out on loan and we are doomed if Arteta gets injured…

Wenger say anything about Diaby in his press release?

  46. rico says:

Ha ha Tsgh, just about survived, grit teeth and look away and it was over in seconds… the jab i mean 😉

The only thing I have in common with ‘Tattoo’ is my height 😆

  47. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

I can’t comment on press conference as I didn’t see it.

I am getting fed up with AW always running 16/17 players off to the ground and then towards the business end when we need the whole squad the others will be too rusty. This is the year we need our whole squad to be contributing.

  48. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

Ha ha Rico. Re @The only thing I have in common with ‘Tattoo’ is my height’.

Are you 6 feet tall? I foot for each letter.

  49. rico says:

You aren’t alone Tsgh, and we all know that once Jack steps foot on the turf, it will happen to him again.

Being overplayed is what did him in first time….

He moans about the French over playing Diaby, but isn’t he guilty of doing the same?

  50. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

I am one of his biggest fans but I am getting fed up with his defensive ineptness. No one can win anything with 11 Maradonas or Messis’. You need a bit of Franz Beckenbauer, Dunga and Cafu in there.

  51. rico says:

    You are very chirpy Micko..

You won’t hear me disagreeing Tsgh…

Talking of Stanley, no sign of him these days….

  52. Lee says:

    It’s de plane boss…..
These hamsters are really getting on my tits lets hope we put the fuckers to the sword tomorrow!

  53. stevepalmer1 says:

afternoon all, thank you Rico as always.
Just got home from a 24 hour stint down the lake needless to say Arsenal got more out of their game with the Greeks than i did out of that stuborn lake. Spurs held to a draw against Udenese shame 🙂

  54. stevepalmer1 says:

Cheers Lee i heared it on talk sport last night but had to have it quiet but i still smiled 🙂

  55. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

SP, listening to the idiots on talkshite dishing out anti-arsenal rhetoric whilst fishing by a lake may be hazardous to your health especially with the chief instigator – Gingerman on blast. 😀

  56. stevepalmer1 says:

Hiya Ginge, no matter how they jaz it up with bull shit they still lost.tickles me that when they talk on that program they always have to have a dig at us whether were involved or not i used to get the hump but now i just smile.

  57. Joaquim Moreira says:

West Ham plus London Orient share in the Olympic Stadium?
yes, Leyton Orient changes his name to London Orient …
It is just a proposal for the moment…
If Frips goes on loan we are ver weak in the midfield. Diaby,,AA and Rosicky it’s always uncertainty; Arteta,Coq,Cazorla,Ox,Ramsey … who more? And we have many games, arround two per week. We need 7/8 players confident and fit for playing in the midfield.

  58. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

SP on sky they tried to sugar-coated and down play their lacklustre performances as just due to players switching off. Contrast that to their remarks about us on Thursday morning even after our win.

  59. rico says:

Hi JM, agree, and we don’t know how long Diaby, Rosicky and Coquelin will be out for, if of course he is injured after Wednesday…

  60. rico says:

I see Tony Adams has been talking about us again today, he reckons we will fall short of winning anything… again…

  61. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

    Its a shame Rico. 🙁

So has he given any suggestions to improve the team?

He is rich enough to offer his services to his beloved club for free if he wishes.

Actually if he was competent enough to be a manager he could have succeeded at PSV or done better at Fratton Park when his old boss Harry Brown Envelope left for Southampton and left behind Arsenal B team.

  62. DutchGooner10 says:

Big Tony is throwing too many sticks and stones against our window. Doesn’t do his ambition any favours. Or he must have resigned it’s never gonna happen anyway.

  63. rico says:

Not sure Coquelin being fit is a good thing 😉

I think Adams would love to be back helping out, just don’t think AW wants him there right now….

  64. rico says:

I think he is waiting for when AW leaves Dg, fresh start and maybe a different manager would welcome him…

  65. martin wengrow says:

This a brilliant post. Does anyone else think that our supporters are the most ignorant and unreasonable in the premiership?

  66. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

If he loves the club he could have spoken with Liam to be the reserve coach instead of Burton.

He just can’t stomach SB being the assistant manager. At portsmouth he had 2 of the 4 invincible back 4 and still conceded over 40 goals in the EPL albeit he went on to win the FA cup.

  67. TalkShiteGingerHater says:

Good point Rico at 5:08. But a loyal servant is a loyal servant. AW prolonged his career and he should be grateful for that. He even allowed him to do some of his badges with us. So why the animosity.

I doubt a decent manager will change the whole backroom staff straight away when AW leaves unless there was a major scandal.
Guardiola did not change Rijkard staff straight away at Barca as an example.

  68. DutchGooner10 says:

Rico re TA, could be so. Depends on who gets top job, some bring in their own network exclusively.

  69. rico says:

Think you are right Tsgh, but the difference is, Bould stayed with us, he popped off for a while then came straight back into the coaching set up and was patient. Adam jumped into management far too soon imho and it backfired.

And yes, Wenger not only prolonged his career, but he may very well have saved his life….

However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t agree with some of the stuff he says 😉

  70. rico says:

Cg, if AU does buy SK out, anything could happen, especially if AW really is against spending big money on big players.

And lets not forget, we can be 99% sure that he was the one who bought the last lot of shares….

  71. Adam says:

Where cricket is concerned it’s anyone but the Aussies for me.
I will be ready to enter management Rico, as soon as Wenger goes and Usmanov gives me the money to spend.

  72. rico says:

Ditto here Adam, England Ladies are up against Australia on Sunday in the T20 Final…. Should be a good game..

20 years, AW will be old and grey by then 😉
