Morning all..

Arsene Wenger wouldn’t be drawn on transfer targets yesterday. Luis Suarez ate a bit of humble pie in front of his team-mates so all is rosy there and then, the question put to Wenger about Wayne Rooney was glossed over by our manager in his pre-match interview so of course, all the newspapers think we are back in for the England man…..

Arsene Wenger did say that he’s still going to be busy and wants to bring in players of top top quality!

Stop talking Arsene, start doing!!

Talking of signings, here’s your chance:

I’m sure there are many fans who believe that this should be our managers last season at our club. At the same time, there are probably many who think he should have already been history.

Equally, there will be many who believe that all this once great manager has done for our club should be enough to carry him through many seasons ahead.

There is still time for those fans to change their opinion and of course, I hope, as I would hope most would, that somehow, Arsene Wenger surprises everyone and makes 4/5 signings which make us go ‘wow’……

That of course remains to be seen but today it’s about Arsenal the club, Arsenal the players and boy do they need our support.

The stuff going on behind the scenes needs to be forgotten at 3pm today, that’s for after the final whistle blows…..

The players we wanted gone have in the main been sold or loaned. Only Bendtner and Park remain, but I suspect they will be gone before 2nd September.

We are left with the players we wanted to stay, well mostly, so let’s get behind them, let’s support them from now until the end of May 2014…

Well there is only one piece of info I couldn’t let go by:

Arteta, Monreal and Vermaelen are all out injured as we know and new boy Sanogo should be included in the squad.

Now is the time to stop the bore draws on the opening day of the season, let’s kick this one off with three big points and start as we mean to go on.

Who knows, maybe by the time our next league fixture is upon us, we’ll have fresh faces on board and a much stronger, deeper squad.

    Arsenal manager is mentally disturbed, he should be taken to hospital for proper examinations. Before the January transfers last season he promised to sign a player who will change arsenal team to better. After transfer closes only one defender was added because of gibbs injury. He promised to buy at least four super quality by this summer, up till date he did nothing, with all these comments from him i strongly believed he is mentally disturbed but because of his past records with arsenal it looks as if he is right. He said his is thin to play all the 52 matches this season. How many days remain for the transfer window to close? He is a big fool.

    Please wenger try and listen to fans. Many players are now fearing to join your team. You caused it. With arsenal on champions league spot is better for tottenham to have come fourth because they are prepared. With the current tottenham squad arsenal will not qualify for top four again

    Tbh, I can even get excited for today, im honestly trying to be upbeat, but I just cant get my head around us having £80m and not strengthening for the start of the season. Come 3pm tho i’ll be cheering the boys on, alto it wont take much for the atmosphere At the emirates to turn poisonous.

    Good morning all, firstly may I commend you on a great site. I have never written on this site before but having heard some interesting news this morning, I thought that I would share this with you. Ok here goes. My work colleague’s brother is a scout at arsenal, and he asked him how things are regarding transfer news, the response was such, “the mood at the training ground is not good as the senior players are desperate for new blood to come in, Arsene wenger has only made one enquiry this week and that was regarding Michu. The response from Swansea was that he is not for sale. There have been no other enquires made this week.” interesting in its own right, however there is further news with a rumour floating around that Wenger will not renew his contract and has already agreed to sign for psg next year, the board are aware and have decided ” to write this season off !!!”

    My take on all this is that we are not as active in the transfer market as is being made out, the board and players are just as unhappy as us fans but are putting a “brave face on things.”

    I fear for our club if this is true, and wonder what the next stage of our will be , ie Europa league football?

    Time to get behind the players, but there’s one important point to bear in mind: if the team hasn’t been strengthened by using the resources at the manager’s disposal by the 2nd of September, then after that there is still one position that can be strengthened, namely the managerial position.
    Wenger has had more than ample opportunity to strengthen.
    There have been many options available, he just hasn’t managed to take any of them, either through incompetence or pure maliciousness.
    Either way, he’s on the brink.
    No attempt to strengthen before the 2nd and we are two or three bad results away from going down the Blackburn Rover’s recent path.

    There you go , first match and sickness prevents me going, so that’s 2 empty seats on the North Bank. In any profession word gets around about which companies to join and which to avoid. Seems we have become one of the latter and this is why Wenger wants a marquee signing to signal that the clubs reticence to buy quality and in fact sell it is over and that it is safe to join us.We have queered our pitch in Europe with big players leaving usually with little ambition as their Mantra. Cesc,RVP, even back to Henry all left to win things. Africa emerging players see us as a stepping stone and once they are established internationals they are off too. Adebayor, Eboue, Gervinho all left being booed off the pitch and Asian , Arshavin , Park , Inamoto and now Myaichi going on loan for most of his time with us, left feeling misused or under appreciated. As I said word gets round and our reputation is not as good as these player’s egos.

    I have great faith in Wenger and his vision for the future. I have great faith in his ability to spot potential greatness in young(ish) players. I understand his preference to developing his players, his way. I think he has done a remarkable job with the current squad. There are one or two who will become world class players, eventually and for that we should embrace his confidence and hubris. However, what he seems unable to do, for a while now, is to accept that there are many players out ther who are very competent and would fill a gap, as a squad member, for when times are dark and injuries are plentiful, but he seems unable to pick ‘goodish’ players to support the team, in times of need.. At present, having culled the dead wood, and rightly so, we now have no bodies to fill the gaps and we need some from somewhere……….but where? And who? Have all the best players already signed up eleswhere or are staying put so, who is left for Arsenal to buy?
    Watch this space!

    The ref goes advantage and when Villa miss a chance he awards a pen. what a shamble. The same ref who was at the Erms to demonstrate hawkeye… maybe AW and AFC pissed him off when he was there…

    I am not one to blame the ref usually and if our team is a bit weak I say so. But the ref is giving all the little decisions in favour of AV. And by doing so and allowing the niggly fouls to happen on our players he is loosing the game.

    I know that our players should start to pass more and run with the ball less especially the midfielders, but the ref is allowing the little fouls on AFC players while punishing AFC with controversial decisions.

    The penalty decision was right, but it beggars belief when OG won the ball cleanly and was penalised and then JW was fouled and was booked.

    The reason for no red card was simple. Twofold.

    First and most important……Agbonlahor was not going straight in direction of goal. He was facing where the 6 yard box connects with the touchline.

    Secondly, Chezzer got a slight touch before fouling Agbonlahor. And both decisions were correct.

    Dev- I think we need to go 3 at the back and close the gap between defence and midfield.

    A ref can award advantage and call the ball back if the attacking team do not get possession when an advantage is awrded …

    So as an example if we are attacking and our player gets fouled, the ref can award an advantage and recalling for a foul if the advantage awarded made the lose ball go to the defending team …

    In this instance the advantage went to AV, AV got the ball and missed a chance. It is completely wrong for him to have awarded the pen. in my imho…
    Dev may correct me if I am wrong…

    Dna, I wouldn’t want to go on about JW and Ramsey again but this match tells me all we need to know about 1 or 2 of the players who most fans think should be starting no matter what.

    JW is very good as a DM until we are losing or drawing. He wants to win too much he forgets he has to watch his positioning.

    Regarding the midfield that is why I was livid that Perez was not given a work permit. He would have kept the ball zipping from left to right, from backward to forward and diagonal passes to the wingers. He does not dribble but passes and moves in space and releases players quickly.

    Neither JW, Aaron nor TR07 should be playing in the DM positions. They should be AM in a 4-1-2-3 formation.

    CB’s were not given enough protection. We now see the essence of having Arteta or a specialist DM in the team. Wilshere should have being replaced in the first 25mins. The only way Wilshere can play in this team is if he is the AM. No balance in the midfield. Now we are going to pay above the odds to get players in now. Anthony taylor is just a joke of a referee. MOTD is a pass for me tonight.

    If Frimpong is fit enough to be on the bench, why on earth wasn’t he brought on, he’s the only DM we have. Not the ideal solution but he may have given the back four some protection…

    Mine was o.k Agag but that’s the only thing that was. I felt the ref turned the game both Szczesny and Kos touched the ball but Agbonlahor has always gone down well. On to the game however all our weaknesses were on show . Too many passes through the middle , no width and relying on Giroud to get onto hopeful forward balls. I know that the blame will be put at Wenger’s feet for not spending but today’s defeat goes down to bad tactical coaching and not having a true leader on the pitch. We were by far the better team for 20 minutes but even though the ref was giving them the best end of the 50 – 50’s we needed the leader to calm the players down and to get them back to football and not show their frustrations. However we lost it and once Villa realised that they were getting away with it we were lost.

    ts – this team should rollover Aston villa for sure. Problem was the pivot role(Ramsey/wilshere) which doesn’t and will never work. Defensive and Positionwise wilshere was all over the place. The safest place to play wilshere would have being the AM role were we will suffer little or no damage

    The same back 4 minus Gibbs, Poldi will come in for Ox;if Ramsey is not fit we see Frimpong come in. TR07 may be rested…

    If I was the manager I will drop Scez, and play 3 at the back and drop Ramsey,TR07 and make sure they are ok for Fulham who won today. My midfield will be Poldi,Frimpong,Yennaris and JW if fit.
