Aubameyang baggage, No defending Mkhitaryan & Giroud heading to Chelsea?

Morning all.

How many headlines can the media make out of one man, one subject or one club eh? Loads is the answer and what makes these writers views so special I often wonder, so special that they think what they write is, well, right.

The Mirror have to be up there with some of the worst, in fact they are often so bad they can even be involved in an live Arsene Wenger interview, yet still not quote him verbatim. Perhaps they’re not quite as bad as fabricating stuff as the likes of the Star, Sun and Express but still, I do wonder who John Cross really thinks he is or rather what he really knows about our club as hes typing his tenth Arsenal ITK story of the day. Slight exaggeration perhaps but as we know, the club are so cloak and dagger, they’re hardly likely to feed him too much honest information, if any. In fact I’d go so far as to suggest that mostly, they just leak stuff that the club want the fans to hear, rather than the truth. And to think they think we fall for it…

But we do, well, kind of. Just look at all the stories surrounding Mesut Ozil being targeted by Man Utd, ones which began quite a few months ago, yet now it all looks like a big fat smoke screen. Sanchez was the player Mourinho probably wanted all along and Wenger probably knew it, just like he possibly knew he wanted Mkhitaryan in exchange.

Aubameyang is the latest. He’s coming to Arsenal, then he’s not, Ollie is heading to BvB as part of the deal but then he’s not and now, the deal is close to collapsing apparently. Yet how do they know all that as neither Wenger or the Dortmund manager have had much to say about it. I know there’s often no smoke without fire and Dortmund have now confirmed we’ve made an offer for their player but the media do like to dramatise a story, or perhaps exaggerate is a better word just to keep us fans interested. They have a newspaper to sell, or hits to be gained after all. Arsenal forums/blogs are no different, HH is no different as we all want one thing, to be read but trust me, when I repeat these much fabricated stories in the media, I shake my head in disbelief most of the time.

I guess what I’m trying to say is believe nothing we read, unless it’s on the official site. Even Sky Sports get it wrong sometimes as didn’t they once suggest we’d signed Jonathon Woodgate? Only to see him sign for some small club in London.

Aubameyang would be a great signing for us, especially with Mesut Ozil Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexandre Lacazette in our attacking unit but if he arrives, he’ll do so with baggage and my worry is the way Arsene Wenger will handle him. Sanchez had a way about him and I’m not for one minute criticising him but imo, Wenger struggled with his personality. Sanchez was demanding both of himself and of others and I reckon Aubameyang might be of a similar nature. However, should that put Arsenal off of signing him? Well not according to one ex footballer turned pundit:

You can’t just not buy them on the basis of their character – it’s what makes them who they are. “It’s fair to say they’re bringing in a problematic type player. I played with players that I didn’t get on with, players that probably wasn’t liked, but on a Saturday afternoon when it came to game time they were massive for us.

“And I think if you go through Aubameyang’s figures and record of putting the ball into the back of the net he has probably been one of the best in the Bundesliga for a number of years and one of Dortmund’s better strikers during the time that he’s been there.

“It’s up to Arsene Wenger and Arsenal football club to try and tame that beast, it’s as simple as that. The thing that you can do is put him in the side, expect him to score goals.”

Simples!

On to not such a problem player but a problem manager. Yep, you guessed it, Jose Mourinho! Hes been accused of damaging Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s footballing career by Artur Petrosyan, Manager of the Armenia national team:

“I think Henrikh had a problem with the United coach and at Arsenal, it will be another thing and not the same situation. There will not be so much pressure on him defensively.

“Yes, he (Wenger) likes them to play better football. I think Wenger is better for Henrikh.

Well, I guess the proof will be in the pudding as the saying goes but if Mkhitaryan thinks he won’t have to put in a defensive shift when needed then he’s soon going to cheese off the fans. Saying that, if Arsene Wenger    made it clear to Ivan and co that he needs a defensive midfielder and a central defender, he might not have to be chasing back after the ball too often. But all of that should have been done back in the summer, just as the sale of Alexis should have and had it been, we might not be sitting so many points away from Man City. We might not be desperately trying to get ahead of Totts, Liverpool, Chelsea and Utd for a top four place because a strong and balanced squad would have had a much better chance of being ahead in the table of all of them. Heck, we might even have been in with a chance to chase down City for the league title. Instead though there’s exactly the same points between us and City as there is between us and a relegation place.

I’d love us to sign Aubameyang, a defender and a central midfielder and yes, that contradicts my previous views about hoping Wenger wouldn’t waste anymore of the clubs money but now it seems Sven is involved in who we sign which is perhaps why we’re going after the Dortmund man in the first place so things are looking up. It might be too late for this season although there’s still the League and European Cups to go for, but maybe next season things might look better, especially as a few more might be shown the door with better quality players coming in.

Yes I know, the downside to that would be Wenger thinking he’s still the man to turn us into League Champions again…

Transfer gossip:

Chelsea seem to have run out of striker options this month so now they’ve turned their attention to Oliver Giroud and hope to prise him away from Arsenal. Yep, im shaking my head in disbelief at this one….

Anyway, I’ve gone on a bit and after reading back, I hope you understand what I’m getting at better than I do….

Have a good Friday guys, I’ll be cheering on Yeovil this weekend…

So Ollie isn’t going says AW, however, if someone comes in he might, but if no-one comes in, no-one goes out although a couple of reserves players could go out on loan..

    Clear then? 😉

  2. Goonster says:

You ‘re not surprised are ya rico?? The club is in shambles. Can’t even get a deal done all window. Shame really. Afternoon maam.

  3. Goonster says:

Rico it’s looking unlikely ma’am. Reeks off saurez saga all over again…heck even higuain too. I have my reservation Rico. Don’t think it will. They have to buy a replacement to sell. It’s 5 days till the end of the window doubt if they can find one so that’s auba gone ma’am.

  4. Goonster says:

On the other hand Dortmund don’t fuck about when it comes to signing players heck no other club does. Just us.

  5. Kk says:

    Afternoon rico and all..
Good post and as you said it’s all hot air speculation at the moment regarding Auba…
it wouldn’t be arsenal if there is no dithering or drama in every transfer window would it?.
I hope by the end of January we would reveal our new no14 (just guessing) otherwise it’s gonna be painful and miserable. .

  6. Wavy says:

    Morning all.

Shouldn’t lose any sleep over transfers that won’t take place. Wenger won’t, he’s already settled for sixth or fifth if he’s lucky! Why should he worry, his job is secure now. He’s got to another final at Wembley, that’ll be two appearances there this season. Judge me in May seems to suggest that his success rating is going to be okay with the club and, what a relief, we can look forward to another year of his miserable, non-interventional ‘coaching’.
    Oh joy!
    Unbelievably sunny here today.

  7. Kk says:

Just read this from another miserable gooner. ??

“Remember the Higuain fiasco, the Suarez £40,000,001 fiasco, the Lemar fiasco and now the Aubamayang fiasco. Wenger/Arsenal are simulating/pretending. Once is chance, twice is co-incidence, three times is enemy action. Answer that Wenger. Abamayang was never coming to Arsenal. Hundreds of supporters wrote that two weeks ago. We must be psychic. Arsenal will not sign Aubamayang. They will sit on the £30,000,000 from the Walcott, Coquelin sales. They will not spend a penny more if they were to spend”

  8. Goonster says:

There you go kk exactly my point. These guys take us all for a couple of suckers. God help us. Why did nina bracewell ever sell to this cnut?

  9. rico says:

But let’s not forget, this isn’t Wenger and his cronies sorting the deal, it’s Ivan and the two new guys. That could be the difference here..

    Afternoon Kk, Wavy.

  10. Goonster says:

Well Rico i don’t see any difference Rico. They ‘ve been in Dortmund for a week!!! In that time shitty and west fucking ham has brought in New players. How hard is it?? They ask for 60m arsenal offers 40m?? Do they do these things just to piss us off?? Well they are right…I AM FUCKING PISSED OFF. Boy what I ‘ll give to have a one on one with Wenger kroenke and gazidis. God am so livid.

  11. Adam says:

Morning Rico. All this nonsense in the press is just trying to stir up crap between clubs. Wenger complained that Arsenal get a bad press while clubs like Liverpool and Spurs, who are both generally unsuccessful, get a free ride and find praise heaped upon them. Within 24 hours this had become a challenge to the increasingly-ordinary Pochettino who has reacted. This gives the papers the chance to suggest that he would rather work on a farm instead of managing Arsenal. Clearly total bollocks and yet it becomes click-bait because nothing attracts these odd people like a shit-storm at Arsenal.
Even Sky feel no compulsion to actually report news and have a complete industry devoted to false stories and outright lies. For them the transfer windows are an excuse to wheel out the irritating Jim White and now he is joined by Chipmunk in chief, Balague for his expert insight. Whoever the complete twat was who tried to get funny with Dortmund’s coach on a Sky Report yesterday should be sacked for being a completely embarrassing moron.
They have a narrative to drag supporters onto their dreary reports and presumably to ultimately sell advertising that might appeal. Cheese snack products, car insurance and options for funerals for instance.

  12. allezkev says:

Ahhh, Jim White, I can actually feel it, as it builds up to a crescendo of hyperbolic bollocks.
God, I can’t wait until February 1st, then those mugs in the media can starting cranking up the summer window… Zzzzzzz

    Nobody does transfers like Arsenal.
If we fail to get Aubameyang on the back of those other failures mentioned, then I will be seriously pissed off, but not surprised.
Tbh, I’m a bit worried that Chelsea will get their act together and get him as we argue over £3.45p…

  13. rico says:

But West Ham aren’t after players like Auba Goonie and City are different as they have no limits with money. I’m not overly concerned as long as Ivan and co get there in the end. There’s always two clubs involved so it’s not an easy thing to get done..

  14. potter says:

Why did nina bracewell ever sell to kroenke

Because Danny Fiszman persuaded her to keep Usmanov and in consequence Dein ever getting back into a club that he knew he was leaving. . The fued between the two coupled with Hill- Woods bitterness took the only man that could control Wenger out of the club . I am not saying that Dein was a saint and in his dealings with club shares he made money from Usmanov but then so did all the others selling to Kroenke.

  15. rico says:

    Afternoon Adam.

I liked Wenger’s response to all of that rubbish, he said he didn’t actually name Tottenham so if the cap fits Poch, wear it…

  16. rico says:

Kev, Chelsea seem to be after a target striker, but with Conte’s career up in the air, I can’t see Roman giving him £60m to spend.. If they were going to spend money like that, I’d have thought they’d have gone for Sanchez.

  17. rico says:

This might sound very cruel but I’d kind of find it funny if Sanchez get’s a Rio type ban for missing his drugs test…

    Mourinho’s face would be a picture…

  18. allezkev says:

Hmm, good point Rico, I wouldn’t sell them Giroud even if we get Aubameyang, because it’s quite possible that we can catch them up.

Alexis was just too expensive, I mean he was too expensive for a ManC let alone Chelsea.
Mourinho has history, what with the kings ransom he pays to old man Zlatan.
    Good luck to ManU…

Once the Champions League starts again and all the clubs above us are still in the FACup as well, we might just be able to reel them in, but winning the UEFA Cup would be a my priority.

  19. rico says:

Neither would I Kev. I’d sell him if we get Auba, but either abroad or to a club like West Ham etc.

If we can get Auba, I reckon we could overtake the Chavs too. We’ll have perhaps the second or third best attacking force in the PL imo..

If only we could say the same about the defending..

  20. Wavy says:

Fairly sure Auba won’t be coming because the old man doesn’t want his type in the dressing room! The stories are all ‘fake noos’!

    Still, time will tell?………

  21. Le Coq Monster says:

Afternoon all and thank you Rico.

You have missed one out in the media, Rico,…………………Ornstein !……………….only listen to him !
    🙂

I agree with you Rico that this Aubameyanadingdong stuff is different to normal because of Ivan and Sven being in Dortmund and not Wenger, however it will not surpries any of us if Wenger has told them not to go above a certain price, so my thought is…………………….show some Jacobs Ivan and just pay what Dortmund want, fcuk Arsene !.

I shall check in on Ornstein, be a sec` !.

  22. Le Coq Monster says:

Nope !……………….nothing from Ornstein since 21st January !

Right !………………7 tonne of granite chippings manouver with only buckets as cant get wheel barrow up some stairs to higher garden !………………where`s Potter, thought he might help !
    🙂

    Poor Goonsters Livid………….
    😆

  23. allezkev says:

Rico, I’m sure that Gazides would push the boat out to get the deal done, but I suspect that Wenger is either holding up things or that Dortmund are having a problem getting a replacement for Aubameyang?

I was hoping that the deal would have seen some progress today with it being completed on Monday, but if it isn’t done by Monday then we might have to wait until the 31st to either complete or see it break down.

Wenger will be preparing his excuses whilst I write (type)…

If Wenger thinks that Mkhitaryan alone will save his arse after his monumental miscalculation over the Alexis fiasco, then he’s in for a big surprise.
The League Cup final will prove to be a brief distraction and if we get tanked he could be in for a rocky few weeks up to the conclusion of this most disappointing season.

  24. allezkev says:

I wonder what Mesut Ozil will think if we miss out on Aubameyang?

It might not make any difference because he might have made up his mind to leave, but it isn’t going to help if he sees Wenger procrastinating over another transfer, one that we really need to get done.

  25. allezkev says:

The many empty seats in recent Emirates games seems to have had an effect with the club announcing that ticket prices will be frozen for next season, the 4th year in succession!

Amazing that, given the much vaunted waiting list for season tickets.

Nevermind that the club earns more from TV and other business associations than at the box office, it still shows what an effect empty seats has on the biggest show in town…

  26. rico says:

Kev, I was too to be honest, maybe over the weekend we’ll get some news. I see Dortmund have suggested he’ll be in the squad this weekend which imo is just to hurry us up. I hold hope purely because Wenger doesn’t seem to be involved.

Agree, Auba won’t save his butt, or rather it shouldn’t and if miss out on him, I doubt Ozil will be too thrilled..

This kind of reminds me of when RvP went, we signed Santi, Podolski etc and RvP had a change of heart so the rumours go. We’ve lost Sanchez and now the club are looking to be bold.. Looking, I did say looking… 😉

  27. rico says:

Arsenal continue to work on a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Arsenal had a bid in excess of £50m rejected this week. Dortmund are already looking at potential replacement, and it is understood Olivier Giroud will not be part of the deal.

We have been told if Aubameyang does leave, Dortmund’s number one target is PSG winger Lucas Moura. However, Moura’s preference is to move to the Premier League and Tottenham remain very interested.

PSG will only consider permanent offers for the player as they are conscious of complying with Financial Fair Play Rules following the signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and would be willing to sell for around £23m.

It seems a lot of these moves will depend on Arsenal signing Aubameyang.

  28. Le Coq Monster says:

Bloody Hell, I missed that joke,Rico !……………………………PSG conscious of complying with FFP rules ……………hahaha……………………….you must think I was born yesterday, next you`ll be saying Mansour City are conscious of complying with FFP rules !………..hahaha

Anyone see how much Mansour lot pay for defenders ?……………….think they have about a dozen who cost £50M !……………………………….alright I might be exagerrating, but their defenders cost more than our forwards !…………….and they get their deals done with no fuss, whereas we know Wenger has Ivan on speed dial telling him to raise bids in 50p increments for Aubameyangadingdong ! …………hahaha

  29. rico says:

Re City’s latest signing made quickly, it’s easier for them as the player has a buyout clause, whereas Auba doesnt I think…

  30. Le Coq Monster says:

Somewhere there is a photo of his son in full Arsenal kit on the Whitehouse lawns !…………………….so there is an Arsenal connection !
    😆

  31. Le Coq Monster says:

Conspiracy theory ?……………………………..Kroenke donated $1M to the Trump inaugural fund !!!!!…………………………….love to see Trump doing a press conferance after a game !
    😆

  32. micko says:

Ahhh Arshavin on dead-line day, first it was on, then it was off, then it was back on again at half 12 in the morning in the snow in the freezing cold at The Village Hotel in Elstree, can’t beat the good ole days !

For what it’s worth and it’s not worth a lot I got a good feeling we’ll get this PEA over the line as well.

What with Danny Boy only living 2 minutes around the corner from the Hotel I’m sure he won’t mind putting him up for the night if we wanna push our luck again.

Gotta luv the FA Cup, gives us Gooners a well deserved break from the premiership this weekend !!!
