Arsene's Failures Hurt Deep!!

No match report today, what’s the point really? It seems we write about the same things after each game recently. Instead we have a peice from a Highbury House regular who like most of us I am sure, feels let down.

I must admit I was speechless after that pathetic draw but lets face it, we never really imagined in our wildest dream that we would be champions this year did we.

I had us down to win this game but it was never going to happen.

Arsene stood there as he has all season with frustration all over his face but could not come up with the right solution, I suppose it’s still mathematically possible, but if we can’t beat one of the worst teams in the league then we don’t really deserve it.

Arsene put our three centre forwards on to show the crowd he meant business, he brought our inspirational captain on, in fact he did all he could to push the players to return a result but sadly to no avail. With a man down Blackburn defended with all their might, some may say they had parked the bus but at the end of the day, they deserved their point and fair play to them.

I did say that Arsene had done all he could, I also said he looked frustrated but what I didn’t say, was that this loss of points and the previous loss of points was down exclusively to Arsene. Money in the kitty, lots of money in the kitty and it’s still there.

January was the time to buy cover for our defence, I knew we wanted cover because the defence had struggled for long spells leading up to the transfer window, we knew we had passengers in other positions, we also knew we had goal keeping problems, even though the keepers were better this year than in previous years, problems still persisted.

But Arsene refused to budge, so the window passed and the likes of Cahill Parker Adams and others we could have picked up for peanuts, had escaped our grasp.

Some say Arsene’s the manager and he knows best, others say the mans a genius, a few say he has added history to the club, all I know is that at Christmas we were the only team left that still stood a chance of the quadruple but I also knew we had problems in defence. I knew we wouldn’t be able to keep our assault up for all four competitions unless we strengthened our squad, so being in this position now doesn’t surprise me at all and that’s why I blame Wenger.

I don’t get any satisfaction from saying that I was right, in fact I get a really obnoxious feeling as if I want to be sick but what worries me is knowing that I will be feeling like this next year as well, because leopards don’t change their spots and I put Arsene in that category.

I think I may have to wait for quite sometime before the Arsenal that I love and support will be back to the old Arsenal winning ways. Arsene may have to retire before I see that, so I will just have to wait. Nobody and I mean nobody is bigger than the club, so I am prepared to wait.

I have stated before that I think we only need a few new players to turn us into champions as in all honesty Arsene has built a fairly good squad and is very loyal to his players. Very seldom will he say anything derogatory about them even if they have done something horrendous, he would rather say he didn’t see it or will not comment on it. What he says behind closed doors may be something else but he tends to keep anything negative hidden.

I believe that may be Arsene’s Achilles heel, he finds it hard to actually blame some body when they have made a mistake and if they constantly make mistakes he bears with them.

Well I am sorry I don’t go along with that theory, you make a mistake shame on you.

That appears to be the position we are in and the only way to change is a new man at the helm, a man who won’t put up with such mistakes, a man who doesn’t fear dropping players or replacing players with someone better.

Once the players realise constant mistakes will not be tolerated, that’s the day our fortunes change.

    Morning all

Good one Steve and I must admit I am losing patience with our manager and players right now, how we could not beat BB yesterday is beyond me….

  2. rico says:

I’m out and about today so catch up a little later,

Happy Mothers Day to all the Mums out there 🙂

  3. Panicos says:

Failure hurts deep, but do the players care?

When a team is built around bought in players who know that a top European team is always around the corner how much will they “bust a gut” for the club?

Three woeful performances and we have dropped 6 points and any chance we had of the title.

Wenger needs to re-shape the team with quality players, Given or Stekelenburg, Cahill, a decent midfielder or two and a quality striker Benzema will do. Wenger needs to invest or leave.

  4. David Bell says:

Wenger went for all four trophies without having the back up in some areas to keep us going.I still feel Wenger made mistakes in not buying at least another two players,he knew vermalen wont make it in January and we needed a keeper, sadly we lost our way after the leauge cup final and the Barcelona game..Cesc should not have played yesterday he looked off the pace,Arshavin was playing well and I dont understand the substitution at all…Leaving Song on the pitch with a yellow card for long parts of the game he wasnt at his best,Walcott played a good first half, but lacked energy in the 2nd,Sagna was not in the game horrible crossing, van persie looked tired after internationals.

  5. Anthony Timothy says:

This is not the first time the gunner have let slip a golden opportunity.Neither will it be the last.I guess even if the gunners had a two goal lead at half time, they could blow it up. Frankly I can’t wait for the season to end.

  6. kelsey says:

the key for me was the injury to Nasri especially and then Sagna.
I thought up to that point we could have bagged a couple with a bit of luck, and Theo was outstanding, yet not for the first time drifted out of the game. Those opening 10+ minutes there was fluidity and pace, but then we ran out of ideas.cross after cross, yet no one in the box.
The diaby and denilson distractors have no arguement on this performance.
To me RVP is not fully fit and as I have maintained all season cesc has his mind elsewhere.
I feel sorry for almunia, he shouldn’t be playing,he is shot, but we have no ther choice.
The winning mentality is just not there, and that is what puts us apart from United.player for player (on their day)we are just as good but more and more teams now know how to play against us and obviously there must be a loss of confidence amongst the players after these past three weeks.
As already mentioned, we have lost our pace, maybe too many games have caught up with us,unfortunately at a critical part of the seaso.
I would argue that being critical sometimes makes one a real supporter,as deep down we all regard Arsenal as part of our family.
When you have players like samba in defence surely we should have started with either chamakh or bendtner to assist RVP, not bring them on when we are chasing the game for a result against ten men, which in some ways made it harder for us as Blackburn just defended even more in numbers.
I can’t comment on the crowd as i wasn’t there, but to boo the players off the pitch, helps no one.
maybe our expectations were too high for if you look at the points we have dropped at home this season, not many would have envisaged that.
The trouble is that i don’t know the answer and each game in the run in will be massive as we are so unpredictable,as we have been all season.

The wenger out brigade will grow, but to no avail.he has a job for as long as he wants.no pressure from the board, which in itself is unique.
Apart from jack, there is not one player anymore that i would believe would be loyal to the club and give 100% every game, that’s what money has done to the game and fans are more distant than ever to the players.

  7. K-TR7 says:

Morning all.i wasn’t even hurt yesterday because i gave up mentally.i believe we have turned stale and we need to freshen up abit.the talent is clearly there:rvp and nasri were dazzling with the ball at their feet, theo looked electric at times…but there is something missing in the jiggsaw.i believe we are at a point similar to barca in 07/08 season under Rijkaard.he had built a pretty good team but something was missing.Guardiola came in with fresh ideas and a couple of signings (alves/hleb/keita/pique) while weeding out their lazy/past it stars in deco and ronaldinho.they went on to win 6 trophies in 1 year.i believe thats what we need:a few signings and freshening up of the coaching staff.

  8. Danish Gooner says:

If he spends 100 mil in the summer it will change nothing,it is down to playing style, tactics and lack of commitment, unless he decides to change those main points he can buy all the Messis in the world and it wont matter.

  9. Will says:

For the first time since I first started supporting The Arsenal, I don’t care. I honestly don’t care what happens this season. We have all said what needs to be done for 4 seasons now.

All the top pundits have said what needed to be done, every Arsenal fan has said what is needed but Wenger will not listen and there is no one at the club to make him listen.

We need 4 players. 4 fucking players. Not a mass buying session. 4 players and to be honest, I am bored saying what and who we need. I am bored with this season. I am bored with Wenger and I am bored with Arsenal and I never thought that could happen.

  10. K-TR7 says:

I feel you will.i may not even watch a single Arsenal game till next season.its disappointing to say the least.

  11. K-TR7 says:

After Guardiola took over from Rijkaard it rejuvenated the whole club including the players.since he took over messi has scored 140 goals in 146 games…!we need new ideas in the coaching staff and a couple of players.

  12. K-TR7 says:

For those who have not heard Mourinho’s 9 year unbeaten home league record was broken yesterday by Sporting Gijon.he had gone 150 games unbeaten.

  13. Will says:

What we need is someone to rejuvenate Wenger and get him fired up again. I remember the fire he had when he came in.

  14. K-TR7 says:

Wenger looked broken yesterday.the team he trusted has let him down again.if that disappointment isn’t enough to fire him up then maybe he should just quit.

  15. agirlagunner says:

Good one, Steve! I’m in equal measure hurt and angry at last night’s performance. Maybe, anger edges hurt out a bit. We were ordinary, uninspired; and if we struggle to get points off of relegation fodder, then that can only mean we’re pretty rubbish too. 🙁

  16. agirlagunner says:

Gents, remember to be extra nice and sweet and giving 😀 to your wives today!

rico, I hope you have a good one! 🙂

  17. JonJon says:

    bonjour amigos..
    what a bunch of losers…
the post is right theres no point talking about it…we go over the same ground over and over again..
everyone makes mistakes and is unlucky but 6 years of the same mistakes and the same lack of luck isnt unlucky…
    its neglect and severe mismanagement..
after this season ive finally had enough..no matter what happens i want changes in the summer…if i see another transfer window of mismanagement and mispending im boycotting everything arsenal…
the games the shirts the merchandise..
    they can fuck off..
the fans want their club back and im going to do my bit…
    oh rocky rocky….

  18. JonJon says:

    wenger did look broken…
but he only has himself to blame…
he walks into gunfights with a sharpened peg year after year and then scrathes his head as to what went wrong..

  19. Joaquim Moreira says:

yesterday,I put this comments on Facebook arsenal american-latin fans:
In short, fear of gaining AW, nothing ventured, nothing makes substitutions when and refuses to take advantage. To go no further, saying I had not lost so early in the League last year, today reinforced my opinion. How do I run the game on 20 minutes that have entered into an advanced center for grabs, you plant two or unloading, and make room for the mids. Let rise in the BR ground counterpoise midfield, losttheir flanks and never had any reference in the area. When they were 11-10, two forwards and went downtown instead of moving the ball quickly forcing defenses and create open spaces, they decided to cross into the area, which simplifies the job of defense, without any clarity.
I have much more to say. I’m agree with Kelsen opinion. By the way, yesterday in Spain, England, Scotland,Germany, Italy, maybe France, today Portugal the leagues were decide.

  20. rico says:

That’s how I feel Will, why can’t we have a manager who can give his side a half time talking to and bring them from a 2-0 trail to win 4-2??

Why haven’t we got a player who can change a game as shrek did yesterday??

    Henry could….

  21. The BearMan says:

The only thing Arsene and Arsenal players can do is to put a gag on until the end of the season. Forget about trophies and focus on enjoying each moment. We are still playing panic football, which is caused by unnecessary pressure.

End the season the way you started playing for the joy of it and expressing yourselves with all freedom. Our team cannot play when under pressure therefore we have to have a change of mindset!

  22. K-TR7 says:

How the hell did jack miss from a few yards in the 1st half?why did he not shoot when he was 1 vs 1 with Robinson?

  23. Will says:

I agree Bear about we should just play football now. The league has gone. Time to just enjoy and give the fans something.

At least when we were not winning a few seasons ago, we had amazing football to watch. The likes of Henry, Pires, Vieira and Bergkamp. We played stunning football but now it is just pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, lose the ball.

  24. rico says:

BearMan, that is just what wenger has said too, forget manure, just focus on ourseleves and get our performances sorted out…

Blackpool won’t be fearing us next saturday thats for sure….

  25. rico says:

KT, i was shocked when he came off and Theo, they were our better players – i laso believe that Nasri should have been straight off after his bump on the head, it was from then on that we looked lost….

  26. Steve Palmer says:

eeEvening all, i must apologise for not being on today to answer some of my comments, as i didnt think i’de be posted, i just wrote that because i was so pissed off i wanted to share my mood with rico, so i am sorry, that is if anyone is there. i went to play golf, just wanted to get away from football, but with all the lads down my club, probably the worst place to go when your sulking, they loved it when i walked in they absolutely loved it. Mancs spuds chavs you name it every fucker was in there, i had a row with her indoors because i soded off to golf, maybe i should just have gone to church and asked for a result, if i thought it would help i surly would, i may even find my faith again, it left me many years ago. Well fellow supporters what do we do now, sit in a corner for the rest of the season, or get behind this shower of shit and gee them up. I’m all for geeing them up, and hope the tight Frenchman losens the purse strings. And i know, although your pissed, by the time our next game comes round you will be there with your support for we are Asenal supporters and we allways will be.

  27. rico says:

    Steve,

it seems that after every game these days the match report highlights the same deficiencies, something is seriously wrong in the mind of our players….

  28. rico says:

You didn’t Steve, and don’t worry – i’ve benn busy today to and out and about – i think we are all feeling pretty low right now after yesterday…. 🙁

  29. Steve Palmer says:

We said a couple of months ago, that winning things breeds a hunger for more, these players are in all honesty losers, they dont know how to win, and they wont win, until men with winning mentalities come in.

  30. rico says:

But winning won’t become second nature Steve until we have winners within the squad – right now we have only Cesc, a player who has his mind elsewhere….

We need chnages alright, maybe managerial ones, i don’t know, but we certainly need a few players who know how to win….

Players who know how to grab victory from the jaw of defeat…..

  31. K-TR7 says:

What is the point of debating about Arsenal anyway?we seem to agree on what we need but the man who matters the most simply ignores it.its getting boring as there is a sense of de javu about the season finale…

  32. Steve Palmer says:

    Evening Ktr7,
Thats the whole point, word is spreading to the people who run the club, when supporters like yourself and Will Jon Jon Rico and the rest start saying i dont give a fcuk, thats when they know the club needs change.

  33. K-TR7 says:

Hi steve.i don’t care how the season will end.i may even miss the rest of the season now as i simply don’t give a crap.they even have the nerve to hike ticket prices but we know that cash will go to the bank and sit there.am sick of it all.

  34. W.A.T.H says:

Steve, the booing at the end of the game would of been noted me thinks even by those utter idiots on the board….! The root of all the problems is from the top, the board and the manager they are the only ones to blame for what is wrong at the club. A vast majority of those players are a disgrace to the shirt Blackburn wanted it more than we did what does that tell you about a bunch of pricks that are supposedly playing to win the league?. No bollox no passion no nothing and we been saying that how many times this season???? pathetic that the board and wenger just ignore it.

  35. rico says:

I care how the season ends guys, yes i do not believe we have it in us to win the league but i want us to now relax and play some bloody good football – otherwise our club will no longer be a club that good players want to play for….

On a final note before i sign off for the night, i think the international break actually came at the wrong time for us – we have so many away on international duty, they all returned knackered…

no excues i know as most clubs have a similar problem but we are down, very down and i am not sure how wenger is going to get us back up again….

  36. Steve Palmer says:

I honestly think things will be different next year, as i dont believe a club like ours can stay among the top clubs in the world, and be able to hold our heads up without change, we know that Wenger knows that and most importantly the Board know that. It will be very difficult to bring the right players to the club when the whole world watches performancies like we have witnessed. They will be forced to change our aproach for financial reasons, and also credibility.

  37. rico says:

    Hi WATH, ‘

    ‘no bollox no passion’

how true, and on a day when we had not long remembered a man who had both, and in abundance…

  38. K-TR7 says:

‘No one expected us to challenge for the title’ ‘we don’t care about them(booing fans)’…f*ck you Wenger!

  39. Steve Palmer says:

How many times have we said, read, that this game is a must win game, and every time a shit result, these players struggle with pressure they always have, once there is no chance left of winning the league, you could bet your life on them playing out of their skins, shame we wont see that because after were out of the league, we have to fight for a CL place and that will mean plenty of must win games. right i’m off for the night nighty night you luvly people and Wath go and warm rico’s side up, ha ha

  40. K-TR7 says:

‘we lacked sharpness’ ‘we played with the handbrake on’ ‘we were not fluid enough’ ‘The pitch was poor’ ‘We were on the wrong end of refereeing decisions’ ‘we have to show our mental strength’…FFS!

  41. W.A.T.H says:

KT, If wenger has said we don’t care about the booing fans he is a compete and utter idiot and a pig ignorant man… It’s those ppl that booed that pay his bloody wages, what arrogance….!

Nite Steve, she is all bitter and cold Steve, very frosty so am staying well away mate 😉

  42. rico says:

    You fibber WATH…. 😉

Has Wenger actually said that? I read he kept them behind after the game, read the riot act, told them to forget the league and concentrate on playing football they way they should….

He said we were ‘poor offensively’ – he wasn’t wrong….

  43. W.A.T.H says:

We were poor full stop and the buck stops with him simple as that….! 6 million a year to wrap kids in cotton wool and tell us all how great they are… Do me a favour…..!

  44. rico says:

it does, he bought them, if they can’t ‘do it’ – get rid, stop giving them chance after chance, be ruthless….

  45. W.A.T.H says:

The team is a reflcetion of the manager they have no guts and no fight and they not ruthless either they going through the motions….. one is the same as the other manager = team team = manager….!

  46. Joaquim Moreira says:

    I’m watching Brnfica-FC Porto (1-2 at 41 th minute).
With this score, Porto will be the new champion.

  47. Joaquim Moreira says:

Porto was for the 25th Portuguese champion. Miss 6 games until the end. In ten years, Porto won 7 of 10 titles.

  48. Joaquim Moreira says:

What you need for a goalkeeper. A true old history of a goalkeeper starting in Arsenal:
Almost nobody knows is that the first goal by a goalkeeper in history took place over 100 years and was made by an English that we know now.
Much thought to the archers only started to score well lately, but a good number of them already did what your 111 years ago. Both the first was marked by an Englishman in his starting team, Manchester City, Sunderland before the distant day in April 14, 1900 Premier League. Charles Albert Williams – or just Charlie Williams – was the author of this historical feat. Indeed, to enter the records of football was his specialty – were three notable achievements. Curiously had two spells with Brazilian football in years 10 and 20 as we shall see.
Williams was born on November 19, 1873 in Welling, situated in the county of Kent in southeast England. Little has been record numbers over his career, but Bowman began his career at Arsenal in 1891. He worked a few times in the Gunners first team until season 1893/94 when he became the target of the London club. This even was the last year of the player at the club after the hiring of Harry Storer.
In 1894 Charlie Williams was hired by Manchester City, where some time later to enter history and football team as a whole. He arrived as the owner and soon became a favorite of players and the direction of the crowd for their good performances. Entered the history of Citizens to be part of the team’s first title since its inception in the 1898/99 season, the English second division.
A year later he entered the historical records of football by scoring the first goal by a goalkeeper who has the official record. It was up to “means not wanting to” if you can say. In the match against Sunderland in the aforementioned April 14, 1900, Williams gave a shoot forward to clear the ball from the enemy. What happened is that the kick was so strong that the archer took the opposite side off guard and the ball ended up in the back of the net.
After eight seasons with the City, two titles and more than 200 matches, Charlie Williams went to Tottenham Hotspur where he played for three seasons and just raised a trophy of lower expression, the Western League in the 1903/04 edition, tournament involving English teams from the west.
Despite the good service to English clubs Williams was never summoned to the England squad. After passing by the Spurs still served by Norwich City and Brentford to end his career on the pitch in 1908.
After hanging up his gloves, the historic English goalkeeper has embarked on a coaching career and assumed command of the selection of Denmark the same year. He started his career very well winning the silver medal in London Olympics.
Charlie Williams had a passage for Brazilian football as a coach. In 1911 he was invited by Fluminense to be the coach for a monthly salary of 12 pounds, plus food and housing in addition to transport London-Rio. Once again Williams was a pioneer, since that time has become the first professional to assume the helm of a football team in Rio and also for having participated in the first “Fla-Flu” of the story on July 07, 1912 stadium Laranjeiras (Fluminense win by 3 to 2). Carioca champion in just his rookie year.
After Brazil also coached the B93 and Olympique Lillois of Denmark (now Lille) France to return to Fluminense in 1924 – when he took another title in Rio – to close down his football career in 1926.
Williams went on to have permanent residence in Brazil than in England and died in 1952 aged 79. As another curiosity, his great-grandson Seth Burkett, born in Peterborough in 1991, became the first British player to play professionally in Brazil, to sign contract with the smile of Mato Grosso in 2009. It acts as left-back. More proof that the pioneer was the hallmark of the DNA sporting Charlie Williams, the muse inspiring “gunners” of the goalkeepers.
Below, data and statistics on the first scorer in the history keeper.
