Arsene Who??

A lot has been written about our current Manager but what do we really know about him?

Many older supporters will probably know a fair bit but for our younger supporters I thought I would take this quiet spell as a way of showing you why this popular Arsenal manager is so highly acclaimed.

Arsene Charles Ernest Wenger: OBE, was born in Strasbourg France on October 22 1949.

Hhe has managed Arsenal Football Club from 1996 and is the longest-serving manager the club have ever had.

He has a Bachelors and Masters degree in both Electrical Engineering and Economics respectively from the University of Strasbourg.

He had a short playing career which spanned eight years and finished his playing days with RS Strasbourg in 1981 his position Defender.
He obtained his managers diploma in 1981 and took up his first post as coach to Strasbourg youth team, then after that joined AS Cannes as assistant manager in 1983

In 1984 he took over at Nancy-Lorrrain then onto AS Monaco in 1987 which was his start to success, winning the league in his first year, and the French Cup in 1999. He then went to Japanese side Grampus eight where he won the Emperors Cup and moved their bottom position in the league to third in eighteen months.

Wenger had met David Dein prior to his appointment in 1988 when Arsenal played Queens Park Rangers and they remained friends until 1996 when Bruce Rioch got the sack as Arsenal Manager. Wenger was then recommended to David Dein the then vice chairman of Arsenal FC by Gerard Houllier, the then technical director of French football and through that recommendation Wenger was appointed Manager of Arsenal football club 30 September 1996 and took up his post in 1996.

Arsene’s Arsenal appointment made headlines in the national papers seeing how he was a virtual unknown in England at the time and the first Manager in Arsenals history to be appointed from outside of the British Isles. The headlines were “Arsene Who”?

Well they certainly know who he is now. With Three FA premier titles in 1998, 2002 & 2004Β  Four FA Cups 1998, 2003, 2004 & 200505 and Four FA Community Shields 1998, 1999, 2002 & 2004 he has certainly made his mark on English football.

World Coach of the Decade

Arsene Wenger is not finished yet, he is at present scouting for new talent in South America.

The Transfer Window is open and Wenger is about to return, will he bring the talent back with him to put a few more trophies on his impressive list? I wouldn’t bet against it.

His searching shows he is still enthusiastic and hopefully he still possesses the power to see a bargain and future superstar. We look forward to the new season ahead and a return of Arsene’s winning ways.

Arsene Charles Ernest Wenger OBE – a true Arsenal Legend in every way.

Morning All, sorry it’s late, internet probs πŸ™

Good Post Steve, positive stuff about our manager, right now there is many a suggestion that we are going to announce 3/4 or even more signings real soon

    Gervinho
    Alavez
    Chamberlain

AND, Wenger is reported to be looking for two Defenders …

  2. rico says:

What I think is a great shame about him though is how he let the invincibles break up so quickly without replacing them with experience, had he done that, we’d have won a lot mot more and he’d really be our greatest manager to date..

    However…..

  3. Goonerjim says:

Rico, sadly we will never know how much dominance that team could have had. He was forced to sell to cut costs in order to build the new stadium.

  4. K-TR7 says:

Good read steve.i didn’t know Wenger was called Charles.its also good to see we share some similarities in the educational background.

  5. Peter Rice says:

I had to take a double take “Arsene Charles Ernest Wenger ” I thought this was some joke, some weird gunner joke that I diont understand. Thanks for the posting appreciate.

Be interested to find out why he was called those names.

  6. rico says:

jim, i know, but if we look at the money he has spent on rubbish, and the wages he has paid them – add to that keping players that maybe should have gone a long time ago, that money would have funded better players…

all in the past now i guess, just hope this summer he surpirises us all again…

  7. arsenal fan says:

    good post,
have a funny feeling about ricky alvarez
hes gonna be great hopefully and anyway people with the name ricky are great players eg
    Ricky ponting anyone…….

  8. Edmund Harrison Iyape (2347062625893) says:

From 1996 till now? Started with a very good record and now wanna end with a very bad one why? Arsene Charles Ernest Wenger what went wrong? The destiny of the club (Arsenal) is in your hand & now you wanna tarnish it with your policy why? Sir (WENGER) you can do even more than the special one (Jose .M) as he is called right now simply by reverting that your so called policy of managing the finance of the club. In short, are you the club’s financial manager? Gosh! then use the money and bring in more experienced and talented players. One special thing about you is that you know the good players but you don’t know how to get them & that is very bad because your rivals get them @ the end… PLS spend jst this year and see what will culminate @ the end. In fact your choice of players (not babies) @ the moment= fantastic+great+success. Go man & make us the fans proud! Up gunners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. arsenal fan says:

the thing that excites me is about alvarez he is not a very young(17 or 18) hes 23 at the age of about fabregas and nasri and is different from what we have and likes to shoot……
hopefully the next signing is one of a cb or two….not gervinho…..

  10. Will says:

I have a feeling there will be a press conference and all players lined up with a grinning Wenger.

    Top entry by the way.

  11. allezkev says:

If the rumours are correct, a big IF, then this summer could mirror 1997 insofar as transfer business and rebooting the squad…
Therefore, i’ll see ya all outside Islington Town Hall next May….[fingers & toes crossed]

  12. rico says:

    Morning AK,

Must say, i have been pretty negative in the last few weeks, out of frustration i think having seen the mancs and dippers sign players but, just maybe Wenger has been busier than we thought…

Just wish they would hurry up and raise the heart of all afc fans….

  13. K-TR7 says:

If reports are to be believed we are after 2 CBs.if clichy does leave i reckon we’ll get a CB and a LB.

  14. allezkev says:

Hiya Rico, yeah, we’re up one moment, down the next, no grey areas, just your average footie fans i suppose…
As you say, our need for fresh blood, is greater that the Mancs, so it was frustrating to see them off and running whilst we are still getting changed!!!
Not least the fact that they signed two players most of us would have liked at AFC…

  15. allezkev says:

Whats your gut feeling on the c/b’s KT [afternoon btw], Cahill and Samba, or a complete suprise???

  16. rico says:

    Hi Will

Won’t just be Wenger grinning if we get what we all hope for πŸ™‚

Thats just it AK, in a flash we’d have both of them, but lets not let the Mancs know πŸ˜‰

  17. rico says:

Re the defenders, i’m starting to think TV might go to LB and he buys to central, Cahill and Samba πŸ™‚

  18. Steve Palmer says:

    Morning Gooners,
I hope I find you all well.
Arsene of course will always go down as an Arsenal Great no disputing that, But,, and I stress But, as the old saying goes your only as good as your last game, and as I remember it, not to memorable.Wenger has a lot to do this season, supporters are getting impatient and six years, whether you have a good past or not, will not protect you for ever. There is many things left out of the story above, the Building of the Emirates The multi million Training facilities, the youth program, so many things that Arsene has been the instigator of, but at the end of the day success On the pitch is the ultimate goal. Success is not just a profitable club its more important than that. Arsenal football club was here before all of those who are involved now, it survived all these years, and it will still be around after we are gone, History is the things that set teams apart, and that should be the most important legacy that any Manager leaves. Arsenal need success and they have waited too long. Arsene this is the make or break season in my view, success this year will put you back in the game. We are all expecting miracles please don’t let us down.

  20. rico says:

    Morning Steve

Top Post, followed by a top comment – he is only as good as his last game and right now that isn’t good…

Big summer, massive summer for Wenger – it’s all well and good hearing about Gervinho, Ricky and Chamberlain BUT we won’t improve if we don’t sign the defenders we need – so if those three are soon to be announced, I hope we see Samba or Cahill stood alongside them….

  21. agirlagunner says:

Boo! You back, rico? It’s high time AW, brilliant man that he is, brings us back to winning ways.

I like the sound of this Ricky. πŸ™‚

    Hello, everyone! πŸ™‚

  22. rico says:

We’ll see Will.. All the papers are reporting those i just mention, this week should see something announced, i’m still believing it will be on the first day of the official transfer window….

  23. K-TR7 says:

I have taken a trip down memory lane when Henry destroyed inter at the San siro.what made him exceptional is that he had those afterburners that could take him to a whole new level.i wonder how many of our players have that…

  24. rico says:

    Hi Stan and agag

Samba has told BB he wants to sign for us, not sure if we have made an offer yet though…

Not back yet agag, leaving monday morning so will be back in time to see all our new signings lined up πŸ™‚

  26. Steve Palmer says:

    Morning rico thank you,
I was scanning the internet for Defenders from South Americe and come up with three i think Arsene may show interest in.
    Brian Carrasco 20
    Niccolas Otamendi 22
    Diego Godin 24
I think Wenger would like these for their height and age.
    The top eleven defenders are

    Brian Carrasco
    Diego Lugano
    Luisao
    Walter Samuel
    Lucio
    Martin Demichelis
    Jorge Fucile
    Nicolas Otamendi
    Waldo Ponce
    Diego Godin
    Pablo Contreras

  27. rico says:

That’s interesting Steve – do you think Cahill and Samba are both smokescreens and he’s bought SA defenders??

  28. Joaquim moreira says:

    Interesting post about the “engineer”.
However, all the focus teams of the post, were disapear from the 1st French League: R. c. Strasbourg, (champions maybe twice or more, in last 25 years). A.S. Nancy Lorrayne (Platini club) A.S. Monaco (relegate this year, champion a few times and also have been in League Champion final).
We haven’t won the Carling Cup during this period?
More: Arsenal were beaten in the Champions League in 2006 and the UEFA Cup in 2000.
    F.A. Cup Finalists in 2001.
League Cup Finalists in 2007 and 2011.
    And Premier League positions were: 96/97 third, 98/99 second, 99-2000 second,00/01 second, 02/03 second, 04/05 second, 07/08 third, 09-10 third, (just the 2th and 3th positions – podium places πŸ™‚ )

  29. Steve Palmer says:

Morning JM all good points mate, i realise that i only scratched the surface but i had to leave something for the rest of you

  30. agirlagunner says:

You playing golf, Steve? Have a good round! πŸ™‚

rico, it would be nice to come back to a few signings. Let’s hope you’re right. I think Steve menas Charlie Wenger. πŸ™‚

  31. agirlagunner says:

rico, some not-so-good news for you, Borussia boss has just refuted the Bendy rumors. πŸ˜‰ I don’t really mind Bendy; although he was poor last season.

  32. rico says:

    Thanks agag

That is not good news, I hope we don’t see Nik here next season, after saying he wants out, he can go – take his little brazillian friend with him too….

  33. Joaquim moreira says:

The ideal Arsenal of all time is as follows: (www.arsenal.com)
    David Seaman
    Lee Dixon
    Nigel Winterburn
    comments?
I follow Arsenal since 60th ends.
Goalkeepers: Bob wilson, Pat Jennings (I know was spud…) Seaman. Ok. Seaman
RB: Sagna, Pat Rice,… Sagna maybe
LB: Sanson, Nelson, McNab, Clichy (yes, Clichy!)… Samson
CB: Probably Adams and O’Leary… Campbell,Macclintock,Simpson,Young.Keown…

  34. Joaquim moreira says:

Steve: Luisao(Benfica), Fucile (Porto), Otamendi (Porto)…and so on..
Arround 40 degrees here… too hot!
Beach in the early morny and at the sunset! πŸ™‚

  35. goonerstan says:

Rico there’s no cesc is leaving us this summer. The c**tolonians oops cataloonies are skint. Those scums can’t afford him. He’s way too expensive for them so there u have it… I want nasri gone instead what a dope.

  36. Joaquim moreira says:

The joke of the weekend: “This gentleman (Abramovich) wants to be champions of Europe and from time to time there comes to spend a few million in Porto. It was much cheaper to him, be a member of F. C. Porto …”

  37. Steve Palmer says:

Sorry had all sorts of problems with my internet connection but back in business for how long who knows, any good news anyone (PLEASE)

  38. Steve Palmer says:

    Saw your comment Goonerstan,
Hope your right but i have a sneaky feeling he won’t start for us again, i do hope this gut feeling is wrong.

  39. K-TR7 says:

Why doesn’t Arsene just tell us that a deal is close at least like how the red nose told their fans the De Gea deal is close.the silence is killing me!

  40. Gooner Ralf says:

Wnger is buying players to keep us in the top 4 not win it.We finished 4th last season and with Cesc and nasri likely to go we can forget any hopes of CL football unless we spent some fucking money. In 2008 we finished 4 pts behind the champions. We havent got anywhere close since

  41. Steve Palmer says:

Does anybody know where Wenger is, or when he returns if he hasn’t already, that would be a start KT

  42. K-TR7 says:

If we dally on this deal you can bet the likes of city will come snooping around.we have scouted him for 3 years!we scouted kompany since he was 15 but we hesitated and city are now reaping the benefits.you can feel ricky has that edge and it would be awful if we were to lose out.

  43. allezkev says:

    Get me to the ball…….
Good piece on the BBC website re: cesc 7 AFC, although a lot of it is rehashed… As is the habit with most journos these days..

  44. allezkev says:

I’ve kinda accepted that he’s going to go, but if he stayed i’d be delighted. Injuries are becoming a bit of a problem, i think he may have played on many occassions when maybe he should have rested.
I don’t think Wenger protects his best players enough. If i recall correctly, TH14 was always breaking down as the season moved into April/May..?

  45. Steve Palmer says:

I would imagine on sky Osi
Ak it seems the longer the saga goes on the more i get uninterested

  46. allezkev says:

Do you think that building the team around him has seen us lose something?
Have we lost a bit of resilience, losing Flamini certainly left us weak in that area?
I’m not sure that Song has, or will ever, be the answer to that problem…

  47. Steve Palmer says:

I think Pat7 the other week got it right when he said that certain training can help in certain situations, Cesc problems could be helped with alternative training maybe somthing to look into if he stays

  48. allezkev says:

Uninterested? Hmm, yeah, i know what you mean. I think i’d be more upset if Nasri went that’s for sure.
Having Ramsey back is a big compensation, he and Wilshire are just so…so Arsenal…I look at them and i get a good vibe. Because i feel that the midfield is in safe hands…

  49. allezkev says:

Pat 7 certainly brings a insightfull view into the debate, i hope he can do a few more posts.
Do you think that Arsenal’s medical team is up to scratch?
We could certainly do with poaching some of the medical staff from AC Milan…

  50. allezkev says:

Hi Osi, AFC.com have the games.
With a bit of luck one or two of them might be on Channel 5 as i haven’t got Sky…

  51. Steve Palmer says:

I would imagine that Wenger has got good people in there, but if their anything like the defensive coaching, maybe add a few more.

  52. allezkev says:

    Well Steve…. the big questions.
Do you think Cesc will go?

If Cesc goes how do you think it’ll effect the team??

Can Cesc leaving have a positive effect on the style of play???

  53. Osi says:

thanks AK, how many games would arsenal play?

StevePalmer, do you think that we always had this problem of a lack of defensive coaching , as it usually claimed, during all the Arsene reign, or something that appeared in the last few barren seasons?

Did we change the defensive coaching team or have they suddenly become out of ideas? Or is it something to do with acquisition of players?

  54. Steve Palmer says:

I see where your coming from Osi, We have had good defences in the past and they have Gelled together, probably not a great deal of coaching needed as they were perhaps better players, but as we changed players and brought more new guys in they have not gelled as well thats when coaching comes in to get them working together, as soon as a problem presents its self its no good leaving it to sort itself out, the problem needs a helping hand

  55. K-TR7 says:

We have no readymade cesc replacement AK.Arsene won’t change the system so we’ll be worse if he leaves.

  56. Steve Palmer says:

Ak, in all fairness, we have relied on Cesc to be the playmaker and the others have fed him, if he were to go somone else would step up to the plate, maybe not an overnight solution but it wouldn’t take long

  57. Steve Palmer says:

Osi, i guess like me you have played a bit yourself, if you were defending and an attacker was in the box would you fly in with a tackle or try and manouver him to a less dangerous position, its not rocket science. Likewise goalkeeping on crosses do you make up your mind before the corner is taken, whether to go for it or wait and see if you can safely collect the ball ahead of anybody else and when you have made your mind up be very vocal

  58. allezkev says:

KT, if you’re correct, and i’ve no reason to think otherwise, then surely that’s got to be a poor tatical and strategic approach by Wenger.
Whatever system a team has, it surely is a mistake to base your style around and dependent on one player, as that then leaves you vunerable to injuries…

  59. Osi says:

we can replace cesc if we change this pass pass approach and go back to quick passing and clinical finishing of the unbeaten team. That team have pires, perkp, Viera as interchangeable playmakers with vision. We can build a similar system where Nasri, Arshavin, and Diaby or Wilshere or Alvarez can interchange to playmaking.

  60. K-TR7 says:

Osi i get your point but its not as easy as it seems.teams nowadays pack the midfield against us and sit deep.during the invincibles era teams didn’t park the bus and it was much easier to play direct footy then but now we have to pick the locks.what we need to do is pass the ball at a much faster rate and move off the ball more aggressively.the 07/08 team is what we should aim to emulate in that respect.

  61. allezkev says:

Osi, Arsenal have 6 pre-season games [so far]

    July 13th Malaysia XI
    ” 16th Hangzhou Greentown
    ” 23rd F.C. Cologne
    ” 30th Boca Juniors
” 31st New York Red Bulls
    Aug 6th Benfica

    Hope that helps

  62. Osi says:

Dear Steve Palmer I played as playmaker and don’t much about the art of defending, however, i’m an intelligent man and I can analyse football and critique like any other topic. In the debate of arsenal defending, it seems that most , if not all of them, critics, pundits, and fans point out to seemingly lack of defensive coaching skills of Wenger and Co, lack of defensive strategy and so on, but I think they need is a lit bit of objectivity in their analysis, a little bit of historicism. there’s lack of multiple perspective analysis, for example this naive comparison between arsenal defending and chelsea, manu defending must stop, why? because we all know arsenal is an offensive team with attacking and ball possession philosophy, and as result, our defenders usually are holding a high line as they contribute to attacking which means they get caught when a nonchalant pass go to opposition players. I’m not saying we have perfect defenders, but our lack finishing is part of our defensive problem as well. add to that the fact that we have less money to spend on quality, world class defenders.

  63. Steve Palmer says:

KT i agree with the faster attacking way, some of our best goals have come from fast breakaways, the slow build up of methodical passing lets every body get back to defend bloody hopeless, catch them on the hop, quick slick passes and we have the players to do it thats the anoying thing

  64. allezkev says:

Hiya Lee, great minds think alike eh?

    Cesc, don’t know mate, probably, it’s all down to Β£ s p…

  65. Steve Palmer says:

Osi, i dont believe we can ever say we have a bad defence because of money, we are one of the wealthiest clubs around. They have been found out time and time again, we either cure the problem with coaching or sell them and hopefully find better ones it appears Wenger favours buying them.

  66. rico says:

Not this way AK, I’d know his nose anywhere πŸ˜‰

Osi, the guy from Porto, he’s only 33 years old…. BUT he learned all from Jose…

  67. Osi says:

SP, I’am not saying we don’t have enough money, I’m saying we cannot be compared to Chelsea and Manu as they superior financial resources.

I’m also acknowledging that we have defensive problems that result from:
    1) footballing philosophy built on attacking effectively. this means that we will always have defensive fragility no matter how good our defenders are.
    2) Some of the bad defending from midfield
    3) we cannot compete in the transfers market with ManU, and Chelsea for world class acquisition, therefore, having less talented defenders.
    4) Playing pass pass without hurting teams usually leaves our defenders with much harder work than any other team, so in that regard we need to improve our striking force as well as part of overall team improvement.
    5) Gelling problems; our defenders need time to gel and increase their understanding of each other and digest well the defending philosophy. plus we had the best defender out injured
    6) Yes, it seems we have less skilled coaching philosophy.

For me we should consider these matters when analysing our defensive fragility.

  68. K-TR7 says:

The AA goal against barca is the Wenger blueprint for attacking play.the 07/08 team is the closest we have come to tiki taka and direct play.we had shades of it last season Jan/feb so it can be done.

  69. Osi says:

thanks rico, for that information, is he defensive minded as Jose then?

He’s too young, was he a successful coach at Porto?

  70. rico says:

Steve – a club like ours should have a mixture of both, buying what we need to keep the defence secure and coaching the youth better than they seem to be…

I am with you, AW prefers to buy them, but imho he doesn’t buy well in the defence department….

  71. rico says:

JM is best to answer that one Osi, but from what i have heard/read, he’s more of a Wenger/Pep than Mourinho in his approach…

I alos think he is a tad young for the PL, but, i wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him do really well…

  72. K-TR7 says:

The invincibles were so good in attack due to constant off the ball movement of pires/henry/freddy/vieira in the knowledge that bergkamp would find them no matter what.if cesc leaves thats where we’ll suffer the most as we’ll have no one to do that.nasri/jack/ramsey can’t just yet and losing cesc will prove to be very costly.

  73. Lee says:

So what’s the master plan from Charlie when Cesc does the Frank Bough?? Nasri? What you reckon gang?

  74. K-TR7 says:

Villas boas prefers attacking football in a 4-3-3 system.he was excellent last year but England is a totally different proposition.he’ll have to manage the likes of Drogba who are his agemates which can’t be easy.

  75. Osi says:

I welcome anyone who makes the premiership better footballing competition. It’s not good to see a team buying all good players in the world, assembling a group very talented players and then play negatively to win one nils to clinch the title.

Football should be about entertainment first, then trophies. As a fan I like to be entertained first then have a trophy. If my team plays and wins all trophies in the world without entertaining I would be mad at them. Not everybody agrees with me as fans becoming trophyhunters themselves, but I think that entertainment should be the aim especially with teams like Chelsea who can acquire anybody they like, and won titles as well.

  76. rico says:

I reckon if Nasri signs, Cesc will go…..

To be honest, we should let him go too – but not for cheap… I’d actually take a David Villa and Β£20 Million deal….

  77. K-TR7 says:

To play the brand of attacking football you need an exceptional playmaker that can slice apart defences.almost every team that has won the CL recently has at least one such player:kaka/sneijder/iniesta/xavi.they are a rare breed and Aw knows it thats why he is fighting so hard to keep cesc.

  78. Steve Palmer says:

Lee, i dont think Charley will change anything at all, if it turns out that we have this new guy he will slot in Cesc position and i believe he will buy other players ie defenders and hope that as a unit they just perform better. He believes this system will work with the right players and i think he will stick with it

  79. rico says:

Osi, right now i’d love us to win a trophy and if that means hoofing the ball up the pitch and us scoring the winner, i don’t care πŸ˜‰

Lee, spot on, me too…. MK should never have been let go from his last coaching role…

    ..

  80. K-TR7 says:

Osi thats why if i was a madridista i would’ve been mad last season with the roster of players they had to go on and play the manner they did in the CL semis.they have even added more players so it will be interesting to see how their season pans out.

  81. allezkev says:

KT, maybe the way Madrid played under Mourinho shows that he isn’t as special as he likes to think he is?
Maybe Jose doesn’t have the imagination to construct an attacking style??

  82. K-TR7 says:

AK Mou doesn’t have the balls to do it.destroying is always easier than to build.it took barca 2 decades to do it,red nose does it but he can’t.

  83. allezkev says:

It’s a bit of a joke KT considering some of the fantastic players he had at his disposal.
Barca are very good, but they aren’t supermen. Eventually even they get tired, and as Arsenal showed at The Grove they are beatable if you stick with them and keep the score to a managable level.

  84. rico says:

Until he makes good all he has mucked up, i have little time for Wenger, he may have been great but right now……

Don’t anyone forget what they were saying six weeks before the season ended….

  85. K-TR7 says:

I agree rico.this time it seems he’ll be very busy and lets hope ACE builds a team that will wow us again.

  86. rico says:

That remains to be seen Kt, i am not coninced – as i said earlier, he can buy all he wants in the attack/midfield, but our biggest weakness is in defence and if he doesn’t sort that out, he can take a hike as far as i’m concerned…

I am sick and tired of watching us gift sides goals…. Oh, and I am with Steve, we need a keeper….

  87. allezkev says:

KT what do you think of Jose Enrique and do you think he’s a good option if/when Clichy leaves [sorry agag]…

  88. K-TR7 says:

Am with you rico.its frustrating to see us waste chance after chance only for us to concede from a setpiece/long ball.if we had defended them better last season we would’ve won the league with pretty much the same squad.

  89. K-TR7 says:

Im not going to say i watch the magpies week in week out but the few times i’ve watched him he never stood out.

  90. allezkev says:

Is that right Rico…? A g/k…. I thought Szczesny did good and with the exception of Wembley, who i blame Koscielny more for, i can’t think of another game where he made a massive blunder…

  91. Steve Palmer says:

Another day of nothing news and i am honestly getting browned off so catch you all tomorow nte nte

  92. rico says:

Chesney is quality AK, but don’t you think he needs a better keeper to compete with?

He’s young and I don’t understand why in such a high profile position Wenger risks youth – but on the field he lets some fester while others get time after time playing rubbish…..

  93. Lee says:

Chaz has his work cut out this wummer….. But as everyone has stated on here, we’re so close and with right additions old chaz will be plotted up in a high back leather chair stroking a white cat…. “global domination…..ha ha ha!!”

  94. agirlagunner says:

Some really good discussion in here, today! πŸ™‚ Shame work always gets in the way of blogging. πŸ™‚

AK, Clichy going form Gunner to goner makes me sad. πŸ™

rico, I emailed you stuff. πŸ™‚

  95. rico says:

I also blame Kos for Wembley, row Z should have been found…

Too true Kt, and that is why all this talk about midfileders and strikers is ok, but i want us to secure a CH at the same time, well, two actually….

  96. Lee says:

AW inherited a top back five and kicked on with some tweaking…. his priority is to get some of that steel back into AFC…. then the trophies will start to come IMHO!!!

  97. rico says:

Lee – I think both of our keepers suffer because of who plays in front of them – but, Fabianski makes the same old mistakes on crosses and set pieces – Ches is better but he makes other silly errors which he will get over as he’s young and full of the right attitude…

If Fabs shoulder isn’t 100%, we are snookered next season…

  98. allezkev says:

Rico, i respect your view, but i don’t think Szczesny needs motivating, he just needs games and experience, in my humble opinion…..

Hi Agag, you sound like you need a holiday…lol

  99. rico says:

No no no AK, I think Ches is full of the best attitude, he’s a real winner – i just think he needs a better defence in front of him… πŸ™‚

And, a better goal keeping coach, how come our keepers make the same mistakes time after time

  100. Lee says:

Scrimping and scraping has got to stop…we all know the problem areas, go and fix it Chaz!!! Next season will extremely tough and we need to be raring to go from the off…. I’d have chez in front of fab personally…

  101. allezkev says:

Rico/KT, i never feel comfortable when we have Fabianski in goal, he might be ‘Harry Champion’ in training, but he scares the life outta me..
Szczesny’ on the other hand, never gives me the heebie-jeebies at all. All g/k’s drop clangers, even ‘Safe-Hands’ but when Chezzer does it i’m suprised, with Fabianski, i expect it…

  102. agirlagunner says:

Fabianski is better than Almunia but is super panicky. Chez doesn’t really distribute the ball well, and can be rash at times, but I do like his confidence.

AK, I think I’m overworked cos I’m so busy playing catch up with stuff that accumulates while on hols. πŸ˜‰ Oh, and don’t worry, I have even more coming up. (gulps)

    Hi, Lee. Howdy?

  103. allezkev says:

Ditto Rico, that’s exactly where i see the problem, the back-four.
And yes, i’m not sure about the g/k coach either.
Maybe Wenger has his doubts also, wasn’t part of the Schwarzer deal a coaching role as well???

  104. rico says:

    Lee – Spot on…

AK, same goes, if Ches is fit, he’d always be my preferred keeper….

But, don’t you guys think with better Keeper coach both would improve??

We need a defensive coach too, get rid of all the silly mistakes at the back and we are unbeatable…

  105. allezkev says:

Rico i still find it mystifying that Keown wasn’t offered a role at the club. Maybe he spoke out of turn? Ace Charley doesn’t suffer dissent from the ranks…

  106. Joaquim moreira says:

We must start the season winning Emirates cup and Eusebio cup πŸ™‚
We need a goalkeeper. Fabiansky is worst in crosses and aerial game. The level of trust and security that transmits the team is low.
Enrique is not a player for Arsenal level. (first team)

  107. Lee says:

Our back four cannot of had confidence in our lack lustre goalkeeping efforts over the past few seasons….as a team we need to defend more as a unit we can score goals as a unit, why not vica versa? Typified by; AA v the mancs at the grove last season, superb tracking back and tackling but he/ others need to do more of this week in week out……

  108. rico says:

Nor can I AK, he got us to the 2006 CL Final, why he was ever let go, I’ll never understand….

Hi JM, I like that, we must win the emirates cup πŸ™‚

agag, Ches’s kicking is appauling, but, it did get a little better whaen he came back from injury – i just think its all a bit too much pressure on him…

  109. Lee says:

Howdy AGAG, how rude of me….AK you’ll have the needle I’ve just ironed out a chicken shaslick/ madras sauce plus the trimmings!! Sorry Pat7 πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  110. rico says:

Lee – good point, the keeprs have been awful, that could unsettle the defence, maybe that is what has been wrong with Clichy….

Buffon, 2/3 seasons, Ches as the Cup keeper and use him in certain league games and watch him learn… He’ll soon be one of the best in the world….

  111. allezkev says:

Rico, maybe the fact that Friedel choose the Scummers instead of AFC shows that Ace is going to go with Chezzer…

  112. rico says:

Guys, thats me done, the sea air is so so tiring… πŸ˜‰

Catch you all tomorrow my friends, rest well and be good.

    πŸ™‚

  113. allezkev says:

You read my mind Rico, i’m off to, see all you Gooners tomorrow.
Lee, save me a bit of nan eh, be a mate…..lol

  114. rico says:

Good point AK, but Swarzer or Jassilingham (bad spelling or what) could still be on the cards πŸ˜‰

    I’m off… πŸ™‚
