Arsene Wenger’s press conference brings very good news….

Morning all.

Arsene Wenger is still an unhappy man this morning. Stoke, Watford, Man City and West Brom, all matches he cites where poor refereeing was on show and dodgy decisions made. Ours of course hit hardest as we try desperately to make up the points between us and second place but that’s because we’re Arsenal fans. City are after bigger and better things and had Palace converted the spot kick they were wrongly awarded, their chances of equalling what we did back in 2003/04 were gone.

Regardless of which team it is on the end of a bad decision, it costs points, points which for some could be the difference between Premier League survival or relegation, not forgetting the £100 million which comes with the survival. This is why it’s important, no, crucial that there’s consistency throughout the team of officials and not just a group of blokes who think they can change the rules to suit their own agenda. We all saw this clip doing the rounds yesterday on Twitter and it really does show how bad the officials are, especially Mike Dean. If he has seen this he should be ashamed of himself!

No wonder he’s a visual likeness to Jasper Carrot! If he thinks this kind of inconsistency is acceptable he’s having a laugh because it’s not. It shows how incompetent the bloke is and he’s not alone. VAR is not far away, in fact I believe our League Cup semi-final will see it in action and I for one can’t wait to see it working full time. Rugby, cricket and tennis all use it and it’s long overdue in football. These useless officials will then have nowhere to hide.

Arsene Wenger has nowhere to hide either, he does his best to find excuses for our poor performances and results and decisions such as Dean made the other evening help him to deflect our own, or rather his own inefficiencies. Whilst Dean hits the headlines, taking the blame for us dropping two points, our poor performance slips under the radar but for many of us, we’re not so stupid. I’m angry with Dean but I’m more angry and frustrated about the fact we couldn’t batter a team like West Brom, a team who are bottom of the league.

But in a way it sums up exactly where we are right now under Arsene Wenger management. Average, in fact we look more like a club struggling with relegation than we do a team fighting to win a league title which is what we should be doing. I’m not saying we should be winning it because sometimes we have to accept other clubs have better resources to do so but come on, only City really can brag about that right now. We should be challenging them though regardless but were miles apart. Miles!

Things have taken a turn for the worst too and both Koscielny and Kolasinac are ruled out of tomorrow’s fixture against a Chelsea side who are in good form. They hit five past Stoke at the weekend which doesn’t bode well for us and before anyone suggests it’s only Stoke, they beat us earlier in the season don’t forget. Mesut Ozil remains a doubt and Arsene admitted in his press conference this morning, we’re getting down to the bare bones now. We can’t afford anymore injuries he said.

But with Jack Wilshere heading into what will be his sixth game in a row and in a short space of time too, alarm bells should be ringing. He’s already been on the end of a few meaty challenges and there’s little doubt tomorrow will be any different. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to see Jack back, but don’t flog him to death. Santi Cazorla won’t argue with that view I’m sure.

A bit of good news from Wenger’s conference though as he’s confirmed he’s not interested in signing David Luiz, but again, he did say he’ll be busy this month and I wonder if for once he actually means it? Not that I’m bothered either way really because I’d rather a big transfer kitty gets handed to a manager who knows what to do with it and what to do with who he spends it on.

Mind you, he did say if Ozil and Sanchez leave, they’ll be replaced with top quality players…

Go Sven….

Good post Rico, right to the heart of the matter.

Wilshere needs a breather, but Wenger will play him vs Chelsea because that’s what he always does, he used to flog Thierry Henry to death until he broke down, usually around late March early April time.

Wenger is far far too conservative when it comes to saving his players, his substitutions show a total lack of imagination, he bigs up his squad and then fails to utilise it properly overloading his first choice starting XI until they break down.

He could have rested Koscielny, but he under too much pressure to make up the growing gap between us and those teams above us, I think he is running scared of missing out on the top four again. But when you look at those clubs in the top six, we should be finishing 3rd with our squad – if it was being coached properly…

Kroenke has been the deciding vote that has kept Wenger in situ especially last summer, but will Wenger retain the absent owners support if he misses out on the CL gravy train again???

Great post again. The Leicester video should be taken to whoever runs the lamentable band of idiots pretending to be refs! Add to this the video doing the rounds today of Dean repeatedly saying ‘I’m sorry’ to AW on the touchline! How much longer do we have to put up with this garbage?

There’s only one thing new about the situation at The Arsenal and thats the date . How long have we known about Kos and his achillies ? Over a year but we sold off Gabriel who despite his critics was a ready made replacement . Now it’s mix and mend . We are coming into a busy period potentially 8 games in 28 days and our squad is paper thin with injuries ravaging it.
Who would have seen that coming ? 7 players currently out,……… 3 from the back line if we play 442 from a defence that hardly inspires when they are all present and correct.
We head into a transfer window , a chance to put a sticky patch over the defensive cracks but all we hear is that losing our top players because of contract anomalies is not a problem .
We are already out of contention for the league ,( if we were ever in it) and this month we have Carabou cup , F.A cup matches to go with league points and if we don’t do something drastic and quick, we could easily find February arriving with just the Europa League to play for..
With that in mind how do we go about firming up our squad to at least take a punt at that . We have a good draw which takes the competition into March ,enough time to bed new players in to strengthen. However to do this we need to move players out to make space. So who goes and who comes in is really the only thing of interest in the next few days.

    Thanks Kev.

I do worry about Jack, goodness knows why he didn’t play Elneny against West Brom to give hi a break, or even MN’s in his proper position.

I know Walcott isn’t our future but we needed pace and width against WBA and yet he remained on the bench. Some of his choices are odd to say the least..

Thanks Db, what good is an empty apology after the game, Dean needs to be demoted or like Arsene, told his days are done at the end of the season.

Good comment Potter, but I think it matters not who comes or who goes. The way they are coached and the way we play won’t change.

I still struggle to understand what Wenger was thinking when he sold Gabriel..

  7. potter says:

Every time I look for the video it says that it can’t be played. But I would ask if the I’m sorry comment was followed by it was a penalty or it wasn’t.

  8. Adam says:

Rico. Of course I’m excited. I just heard Arsene on the radio saying that he will replace both our contract rebels with World-Class players if they leave.

  9. potter says:

I refer you to my comments yesterday . For all of his sins Wenger is a person that believes in fairness. Maybe it’s time that he took the F.A on he is one person that could do it. He would have to leave Arsenal first , so it’s win win for us.

  10. Wavy says:

Wenger charged for misconduct! Begs a question doesn’t it! Whose misconduct his or the referees?
I don’t often have much sympathy for the old wrinkly one but, in this instance I do. However, I suspect hell just roll over and let them tickle his tummy! He could though, if he has the mind to, take them on, the FA that is and show them just how fraudulent we think their unaccountable and furtive dealings are bankrupts! The absolute need for tv reviews, a la the German system which allegedly takes less than 5 seconds to make a decision even with the play continuing. None of this bullshit about conversations and controversy that lasts a week in clubs and pub. What bollocks of an argiment for the retention of an overtired and antique system, is that?

Time for the FA and the PRAO(?) refs assn to embrace the 21st century and all the helpful technology the boffins and geeks can offer – in the interest of accuracy, fairness and even handedness, and disallow rabid managers and coaches to accuse officials of a lack of integrity!

Oh for an equitable world where all animals are equal and NONE ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS!

Mini rant over. Another resolution broken already! Oh my blood pressure!

  11. Le Coq Monster says:

Thanks Rico for another good one !.

The injuries are starting to add up and I thought being out of the CL would help our lads without so many games, but we`re in the darn EL, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and EPL, no rest and np players soon !.

Yeah !…….Wenger will replace Ozil and Alexis with World Class players
    😉
…………………….what is a World Class player anyway I ask, for a far as I know someone could only be classed a world class players if we (Earth) were playing another planet !………………..and to tell the truth as good as us Earthlings are at football, I think we would struggle with Uranus !

    Boom Boom !

  12. Wavy says:

He was apparently and I typically rude, foul mouthed and abusive to Dean when he was taking his make up ft er his performance in his changing room! Poor dear!
