Arsene wants Leicester winger? Newcastle didn’t deserve red card, they deserved three!!

Morning all.

Well I thought that game was going to be a real toughie. Lunchtime kick-off, the hostilities of St James Park and its rowdy fans and our slow start to the season.

But in reality, it was a breeze wasn’t it. Did Petr Cech have a save to make? I don’t think so and as one of the commentators on BT Sport said, our keeper could have read a book during the game, especially the first half, as he had so little to do…

But, as much as we were at ease in possession, all the time we can only manage to churn out one goal, and an own goal at that, we will always be vulnerable to a smash and grab equaliser and that’s the one huge flaw in our game.

Having bleated on all summer that I wasn’t sure we needed a striker, I’ll concede, we do.

I’m not knocking Theo Walcott or Ollie but yesterday neither had a game to remember but for Walcott, once Newcastle went down to ten men, there was always a brick wall, one that was already on show when the game begun and the two chances he had, he squandered. When Ollie came on, he struggled to make his presence tell. For a big strong guy, he goes over to easily.

Another flaw is our wide men drift in far too much, or drop too deep because they want to get hold of the ball, we lose our width and what should have been a forward line full of pace and width, was pretty much non-existent. Monreal and Bellerin were the only players getting in behind the defence to get a cross in, even then they often hit one of the bricks in the ten man wall.

Imo, the most obvious thing to do yesterday was to get the ball and shoot at every opportunity, really test the keeper but again, we didn’t, not really and when you consider how our goal came about, as it did at Palace, you’d think Arsene Wenger would encourage such a thing.  Perhaps he does but it sure doesn’t look like…. I know some will point to our 21 shots recorded yesterday but how many times did we really test Krul from distance. Alexis, Ramsey and Santi tried, in fact Theo’s best chance came after a shot from Alexis…

The sending off ruined what may have been a great game, but as much as the Newcastle fans were up in arms about the decision made yesterday, I’m sure having watched the replays when they got home, will be silent today. In fact they should count their blessings that Mitrovic was the only player to see red as Thauvin should have had an early bath. His studs on Bellerin’s ankle in the box should have resulted in a penalty and a booking at least, his foul on Francis Coquelin was in my opinion, a straight red. Mariner got both decisions dreadfully wrong. The stamp on Monreal by Sissoko could on another day with a different referee been deemed more than just a booking too.

Newcastle clearly targeted Francis Coquelin yesterday, he really must be sore this morning and how he left the pitch walking I don’t know. He did well to keep his head, as did others who were time after time fouled just to break up play and stop us. Steve McClaren said after the game that his side had been hard done by and and that Mitrovic shouldn’t have been sent off. The tackle was ‘clumsy’ he said.

What utter garbage… He sent his team out to do a ‘job’ on our boys and they did all they could to follow orders. Thankfully, no-one ended up seriously hurt although how, I don’t know.

If I was Arsene Wenger, I’d be on the phone to McClaren this morning. No, not to moan although that would be tempting but to ask him how much he wants for Moussa Sissoko…

Anyway, three points but Arsenal seriously need to improve if they are to challenge City for the title….

Gossip:

Arsenal could make a shock move for Leicester’s star man Riyad Mahrez, according to the Daily Star on Sunday.

Arsenal are ready to go for Gonzalo Higuain after missing out on Karim Benzema. Sunday Telegraph.

That’s it for Sunday, now it’s the international break and hopefully and exciting three days in the Arsenal transfer window….

Have a good day guys and gals…

  1. Adam says:

Just as long as Wenger spends, purely for the sake of it and sends the club spiralling close to bankruptcy we’ll probably win the lot.

  2. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

you are right Rico. they did not deserve the red card. They deserved THREE.

As I said……2005 Sir Red nose instructed his team to roughen up AFC. Mclaren did just that as well. Good thing we won.

Sissoko I like. And why not Coloccini as well and give them Chambers on loan for the rest of the season???

  3. rico says:

Just as long as he spends on the right players, we might……

But, the best money he could spend would be on Football in 2015 manual… 😉

  4. Adam says:

It’s true Rico. It’s always best to leave your transfer business to the final hours of the window. That way you get the best prices. But nothing can account for poor referees, badly prepared pitches, acts of God and the like. It’s a tricky balancing act.

  5. Wavy says:

I posted this on yesterday’s blog. It seems relevant to today’s so you can have it again!
It should be entitled ‘football or do we prefer foot fights?’

Keown’s remarks on MOTD, unless I misunderstood what he was implying, was that he expected our players to “crowd the referee” at times of dispute or a bad tackle, this season they, the refs, ahave been told that they employ zero tolerance of mass mobbing and all who are involved should be booked! Not very good advice, the old Arsenal way! Violent by intent and usually unsuccessful so……? Also he seems to imply that if the players were getting shit kicked out of them as per yesterday or against Chelsea in the CS that the players should take the law into their own hands and treat like with like in defence of those who had been assaulted. In both examples the ref called the last involved player and the captain to listen him and issued a final warning. I’m sure every supporter who witnessed the final word from the ref will have noticed that the level of deliberately bad tackles disappeared from the game! And football was resumed.
6 yellow cards and one red rather illustrates the level of foul play employed by the toon yesterday, and most of the cards came early! It was sorted by the ref. the toon paid the price of McClarens stupid and dubious instructions and his team went down the toilet. We won, the ref won and the magpies lost!
I don’t think, much though I like Keown as a pundit, that his get your retaliation in first is the way I want to see the game played. It reminds me a little of manure under old red nose. The good old days, I don’t think so.

  6. rico says:

I’m actually just really glad we got three points. We are poor, that cant be denied but at some stage that has to change….

Roger, I hate the interlull, it’s so boring…

If AW gets a striker and midfielder in the next 3 days, I’ll be happy, but frankly amazed….

  7. rico says:

Wavy, Keown suggested we needed to crowd the offending player, not the ref as they’ll get booked…

Anyway, yesterday I watched paint dry, today it’s painting so catch up later…

  8. Steve says:

    Steve McClaren-dead man walking !

We really are struggling to find our form this season. There were long periods yesterday when I thought we were watching the filming of a new Barclays advert for walking football. I do hope this is not the latest reincarnation of ‘Wengerball’.

It should be mentioned that we are not alone. Apart from Man City, the whole Premier Leaque seems to be in some sort of turmoil at present.

  9. allezkev says:

    Higuain!!!

The Telegraph, what a croc of shit….

    Good post Rico…

I actually thought that the referee had a good game, all things considered….

Loved seeing two Stoke players getting the red card as well.
    Long overdue imo..,

  10. Adam says:

I really didn’t get Keown’s rather laboured points on what is essentially gamesmanship. Swarming around the referee as a tactic seems strange. But then again I suppose dear old Martin is trying to cement himself a pundit’s role to earn a few quid.
    Odd shaped head though.

  11. rico says:

Me too re the ref Kev although Santi’s booking was soft I thought..

Adam, Keown didn’t say crowd the ref, both he and Gullitt (spelling) just said let the offending player know they are not happy. No violence, no cheating just looking out for each other…

  12. Brian Price says:

I listened to the match on the BBC and it was easily the most biased commentary EVER. Danny Mills (who?) set the tone when he said McLaren was the best couch he had ever known, which shows which side he was on and how little he knew about the game. Every yellow was ‘harsh’ and the red was ‘a travesty’, and how the ref had a ‘nightmare’. It was only when I started reading reports and watching MOTD that I realised just how dirty they were and how much we were on top.
As for Keowns comments on crowding the ref, we didn’t and got one yellow, they did and got six and one red. Which is best?

    Brian

  13. allezkev says:

Rico, some of our results have been poor, but we haven’t had a lot of luck either…

    Ramseys disallowed goal vs Liverpool.
    Bellerins penalty yesterday.

Apparently we totally dominated West Ham for most of the first half, until they scored…

Get an early goal and you could see a different Arsenal…

Walcott and Giroud have taken a lot of criticism this season, and it seems to be having an adverse effect on their confidence…

Giroud scored a great goal at Palace and he still gets caned…
I’m not saying that we can’t improve in that dept, and his finishing yesterday was quite poor, as was Theo’s, but I don’t think he is as inept as he is being caricatured in certain sections of the media….

  14. rogerbij says:

no one is inept Kev, they are all good players. Its just that we are short of that top quality to bang in 100 goals and change games. Who would love an Aguero, or Suarez or [add name here].

The issue is that as much as I would like a top quality striker too, it very difficult to come up with a name of one who might actually be available, even when paying over the odds.

I somehow agree with Wenger when he says he wants to buy to improve the squad. What we dont need is another ‘reasonably-good-but-kinda-average’ striker in the team. We already have Welbeck as an average option!

  15. scottfromoz says:

I’ve been very surprised some parts of the media have suggested the red card wasn’t deserved.
Studs up, above the ankle and it’s not a red?
    Slanted journalism?
    Yep.
    Morning all.

  16. rico says:

I agree Kev. That Ramsey goal was a shocker by the linesman..

I thought I kind to Ollie and Walcott.. 😉

Yes, we could sign better, but they both have a part to play in our season imo…

Adam, I guess what he was saying is the lack of passion showed when a team-mate takes a nasty tackle. In his day, the whole team were behind each-other. Coq had just been studded good and hard and no-one reacted, almost if that kind of tackle was acceptable…

Where’s the team spirit gone. Perhaps that’s half the reason we are having an odd season, there’s no-one out there giving it large. Alexis was possibly the only one questioning why rotational fouling was acceptable..

  17. allezkev says:

I know Roger, most of the strikers who would be an upgrade on what we have are settled at clubs bigger, richer and in leagues where success in nailed on…

I’d love Lewandowski and we should have moved heaven and earth to get him when he was at Dortmund, but we didn’t and he ain’t gonna leave Bayern anytime soon…

  18. allezkev says:

Scott, that shouldn’t surprise you at all mate.

What surprises me is that referees are actually, at long last, punishing these thugs for their foul play….

As Rico said, they could have had three sent off.
    The stamp on Monreal.
    The penalty.
And that ginger git they had running around kicking everything for an accumulation of fouls…

  19. Tai says:

    Great report Rico…

Before the red, we were all over them… but after they moved into a shell and we became extra cautious.

I hate it when teams are reduced to 10 men… however deserved the card, the team immediately gets the sympathy of neutrals and the other team to be considered shit if they ended the game without evident convincing victory. It gets to the team with 11 men and our boys played smart to it. It’s more difficult to play against 10 men than 11, especially if they feel inferior and know a thing about defending.

The first 15 mins of that game saw us at our best…I moaned when I saw the red because I knew the negative impact it presented after. From the way we started I was hoping for 3- 0 but getting three points in such a match where the crowd did everything to take over officiating was very crucial and I believe mattered most. Well done boys!

    Morning All.

  20. Cockneytrev says:

What a totally biased post, 3 red cards, have you been on the pipe? Newcastle had at least two bookings that should not have been, Anita’s and collocinis, also they had a booking for a player who brandished an imaginary card, carzola did the same and was not given the same penalty, I thought the refereeing was inconsistent and embarrassed us, we did not need the refs help to beat them

  21. allezkev says:

Really Rico, I’ve been up there, they’re all a bit odd….

Len Shackleton when comparing Newcastle and Sunderland fans said that Newcastle fans were that one-eyed to such a degree that they were a bit thick….

Or something along those lines… 😉

Relegation fight for the Geordies this season methinks…. 🙂

  22. rico says:

Tai, I too reckon 11 v 11 would have not only been a better and more open game, but we could so easily scored a few goals…

Thought Gabriel was good again, he sure gets some distance on his headed clearances…

  23. Joe says:

Would that be the southern softies that don’t have to go back to the 1950’s since those
    Northern tuggs won a trophy

  24. Simon Ngulube says:

Scott, ignore some of these media people…they are biased as they are supporters of our rival teams..am feeling alot better today. I have a feeling Wenger has a huge surprise for the team…eagerly waiting.

  25. allezkev says:

I think it was Shackleton who said if somebody hung 11 Newcastle shirts on a washing line, it would attract a crowd….

    I quite like Len Shackleton….
    He was brilliant for Sunderland…

I always seen Sunderland as the biggest club in the North-East anyway…

  26. Dublingunner says:

Afternoon, I think what Keown was saying was he couldn,t understand why arsenal players don,t protect their own players when their getting kicked about, too nice.
It showed Coquelin and others getting badly treated, and not one of our lads went over to protest or have a word with the Ref. logic I think.

  27. Adam says:

At the moment it seems like there is less and less appetite for whatever the PL is dishing up. Pragmatism is the basis for today’s tactics. Steve McLaren aka the wally with the brolley, is a comic figure. A kind of 70’s throwback. I can see him, with his extremely sparse Quiff, dressed in a leather jump suit cavorting to Alvin Stardust records in front of a mirror in his home with a quilted bar in the corner and a faux chandelier hanging from a ceiling covered in period coving features – while speaking in a Dutch accent of course.

  28. Tai says:

Known was right imho. At least we have a pundit shouting for us and slating him by us is the worst way to acknowledge his passion.

However, our boys yesterday did everything to avoid giving the ref any slightest reason to go with the crowd. Carzola…was wrongly booked to appease the crowd.

  29. allezkev says:

Adam, do you think that Steve the Brolly would look cool in a pair of black n white striped spandex pants….?

  30. rico says:

Cockneytrev, we’ll have to agree to differ. There were three studs up tackles on our players. Monreal, Bellerin and Coquelin…

As said, I’d rather it was 11 v 11 but it seems you are one of a few who think Newcastle weren’t a bit ott with their tackling…

  31. Adam says:

Kev. I think the comic nature of the man should never be underestimated. Like the continents, the hair at the front of his head, which is decidedly Teddy Boy, has moved from the sparce stuff further back to form a look reminiscent of Coco The Clown. Add to this the unutterable crap that he spews and his rather obvious attempts to try and ingratiate himself with the Geordie fans and you have comedy gold.

  32. allezkev says:

Ha ha ha, yeah, absolutely, that post-match interview was just, so obviously an attempt to deflect attention away from his unimaginative tactics by brown nosing the Geordie Nation….

    Geordie Nation…. Lmao

  33. Dublingunner says:

I don,t think it was Walcotts type of game yesterday, I think we should of set up with a target man from the off, Newcastle under Mclaren, as we seen from their hardy and well set up defensive display against United last week were always going to be tough to break through with 10 or 11, Giroud who had scored more goals against Newcastle (8) than any other team, I think would,ve offered more from the start.

  34. Adam says:

Passion is a much overused term in my opinion. Known wasn’t passionate on the pitch, he was angry and gave away too many free kicks on the edge of the box. You notice that it’s the word that McLaren is hiding behind since the game to deflect attention away from his loathsome tactics.
I await someone to come along to say that they wish we had some of what Keown had today.

  35. C says:

Good Afternoon to The Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Rico – A great summary of the game. “…Another flaw is our wide men drift in far too much, or drop too deep because they want to get hold of the ball, we lose our width and what should have been a forward line full of pace and width, was pretty much non-existent…” I couldn’t agree more.

After our game I watched Liverpool vs. West Ham and it was the the complete opposite. West Ham used the full width of the park, transitioned from defence to offence quickly and attacked with pace. They made the Dippers look quite ordinary and won away at Anfield for the first time in 23? years.

So, the Hammers have beaten Arsenal (0-2) and the Dippers (0-3). Arsene and the team need to take note that possession isn’t any good unless you make use of it and attack with purpose and commitment.

  36. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Higuain??’…well… is expensive!
Why we try always “big” names and expensive players?
In my opinion: Sissoko is a good striker and play for the team,. Another player, Rincon (WBA) is a very good center forward. With Higuain price, we can buy one of them, the DM we need and probably another player (a winger- Marcial).
another question: why yesterday goal was an own goal? the ball hit in Colloccinii; has he a clear interference in the goal? with those parameters, there will be many own goals during the season.

  37. Canadian Gooner says:

Scott – I think someone in London should raise a headstone in Fleet Street to commemorate the demise of journalism.

I’m reminded of the comment of an executive of the American network CNN (Cable News Network) when taken to task over their patently biased and inaccurate reporting replied that they were not a news channel, but an entertainment channel.

True journalism is a rare and precious thing and should be treated with reverence. Most sports pundit are only interested in the quantity of their sound bites, not in their quality or accuracy.

  38. rico says:

I do Adam, him Paddy, Tony, Bouldy, Petit, they all showed passion for the game imo…

Afternoon Cg. It’s hard to believe we play so narrow isn’t it. What’s the point in playing a front three when they all cluster together in the middle…

  39. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – We’ll let the Hovis slide and maybe a flat cap, if you take the fancy, but you/we don’t have to worry about the Whippet(s). You’d never get one as they are hell on chickens. I can’t see you putting your girls at risk. So, you’ll never qualify as being from ‘oop there’.

    Your Southern credentials are safe.

  40. Dublingunner says:

    He,ll do for me Adam.

Fair play to Martinez and Everton for proving that the so called big clubs, can,t just snap their fingers.

  41. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – If you are really interested in becoming a Northerner, we could send Pete Postlethwaite around to give you lessons. Unfortunately he is no longer with us. Maybe we could do it with a intense and prolonged exposure to colliery and factory brass band music.

Before you know it, you’ll be eating black pudding with your brown ale.

  42. Canadian Gooner says:

Kev – That question makes about as much sense as me asking you how things are in the Pennines. Other than that, I’m great and I trust you are the same.

  43. Lewis says:

    Afternoon all.

We signed a strike yet?! Our chance conversion stats are getting a little comical.

Refs performance was poor yesterday, but why do we expect anything less? The standard of reffing in this country is bloody awful, every game has 3 or 4 incorrect decisions and these decisions generally go the way of the team that is trying to rough the other side up. I don’t think the refs here believe in the ‘beautiful game’.

  44. andrewh1313 says:

Good post rico, afternoon all. Three points, main objective.

Just read Wanyama left out of Soton team for transfer reasons. Who’s after him, we were linked once?

  45. rico says:

Cg, I’ll stick to being Southern thanks… lol

    Totts want Wanyama Andrew..

Lewis, in what way re the ref? The pen or bookings?

    Afternoon all..

  46. Dublingunner says:

Borussia Dortmund are close to signing Andriy Yarmolenko for €15m from Dynamo Kiev. Could they be expecting a last minute Reus departure?
According to the report, Dortmund believe they can sign Yarmolenko for a cut-price £8.7m fee as Kiev seek to sell.

  47. Joe says:

There’s perspective and then there’s delusion its hard to believe that Newcastle fans can still think they got a hard time from the ref.

  48. Dublingunner says:

Sure am joe, on tv, though, not a great game, but once we get there
A Dublin, Kerry Final hopefully awaits.

  49. rico says:

But Williams and Gomis have been deemed not good enough on here over the months/years gone by… Lol

Have to say I’ve always been a huge fan of Williams…

  50. Nashua Gunner says:

    Good Evening Rico and All.
Still hoping for that final touch from AW. If it just one player coming I’d hope and prefer a striker.

And if there is no DM coming, then let use kev. Let him sit next to the Le Coq. I believe he still have those boots stored somewhere.

AW instructions to Allezkev. If you miss the ball don’t miss the man. Anything that moves in front of you you kick. And that goes for the ref as well. 🙂

  51. Dublingunner says:

I knew swansea would do damage today, called it this morning.
Our 3 points certainly look very important now.
    I realised 2 things lately
    Monk is a great manager,
and Pochettino is a shit manager.

  52. Micko says:

Plenty of time yet Adam, see Citeh have confirmed Kevin De Bruyne for around 58 mill today, like they really need him.

Brendan Foster reckons he’s the best British sportsmen ever rico and he’s not finished yet !

  53. rico says:

Monk has been really impressive Dublin, good to see a club give a young and unknown quantity the job in the first place…

Bet Arsenal or many of its fans wouldnt welcome Bould to take over from Wenger when he retires..

  54. rico says:

I saw Micko, yet Lordy Coe reckons he’s got a long way to go before that…. Bitter and twisted old posh boy that he is….

  55. Dublingunner says:

Definitely enjoyed watching Mo this week, and Bolt.
Be nice to see im break a world record, though. I think it,s only a matter of time.

  56. rogerbij says:

Of course DeBruyne is not ‘worth’ 60 million!

However, this is an example of an oil rich club paying what it takes to buy a player they want from a club that doesnt want to sell.

I would go nuts if Wenger paid 60m for DeBruyne because I dont see the value and we have needs in other areas where that could go. But hey, each to their own.

  57. rogerbij says:

God Rooney having a shocking start to the season – great for us, and a wee bit of schadenfreude.
Horrible for my fantasy football team though, he’s out the door tomorrow.

  58. frednerk says:

Really getting fed up with all you
arsenal fans having a go at poor
    old arsene.
    None of you know this..
But arsene and his team of negotiators
have been working day and night
    throughtout the transfer window
to get us top,yes top quality signing’s
Lots of you lot don’t know how hard it is
to have only £200 million just sitting
in the bank not earning any interest.
So please spare a thought when the
trolley dash starts, and we are all
    awaiting news on our Top,Top
    players signings,that Man City
had to pay through the nose
    for them over priced players.
    Ha,Ha,Ha

  59. Dublingunner says:

I think the fear now is with United,Chelsea and Ourselves still in the market, we could simply be outbid for whoever comes available.
Nightmare scenario, getting told by Wenger after the T.W shuts, that he,s targets weren,t available.

  60. rico says:

Dublin, can’t see us being after players Mourinho wants tbh. Utd might go for Benzema I guess but I hope Wenger is after someone other than him….

  61. Tai says:

Something tells me one team will make top 4 for the first time this season…and it’s not beyond Swansea, Soton or Crystal Palace

  62. frednerk says:

Rico as a betting man I would
have loved to get a bet on arsene
    waiting till the last minute.
I saw a clip of wenger and his
team in a hotel and in it he said
to Ivan G….If he wont sign then
    get the other one.
Some gezzer filmed it on his mobile.

  63. allezkev says:

Man City have spent £162 million…

Isn’t it lucky that we have FFP… 🙁

The lunatics are running the asylum…

  64. Dublingunner says:

sure thing Rico, Mourinho will most probably shop in marks and Spencers, while we,ll probably nip in to Tesco for a bit of last minute shopping.

  65. frednerk says:

    Two things Monk done
    After the manc’s scored
    he went 4-4-2 it worked.
    Manc’s bring on 6ft 5in Fellini
    Monk then send’s on Bartley
    6ft 5ins to manmark Fellini
    Great stuff.
    Wenger should have used the
Quiff as soon as the barcode’s
    went down to 10.

  66. Tai says:

Fred, that story of ‘if he doesn’t sign get the other one was first published while Arsenal were in Singapore’…if he hasn’t got that other one by now, then probably the other one was the 15-year old!

  67. Adam says:

If you have the money then you may as well spend it. What else, apart from profit taking, can you do with it. They’re hardly likely to reduce costs for the fans with the profits are they? There is no measure that can tell us if deBruyne is worth it or not. Even if he isn’t worth it then it doesn’t really matter as far as I can see.

  68. Tai says:

I never counted them this time…I have Arsenal, Man City, Man U and Chelsea…

EPL has never been this competitive over the years…the extra load of Champions League football will be on and one team could sneak in…I hope Wenger knows it and realises we’re short in numbers. We don’t have 25 senior players yet!

  69. Dublingunner says:

Fred I do remember seeing that on some twitter sphere a month ago or so. It,s an interesting piece, definitely. but can,t help wondering whoever they were referring to then, are they still available now, and have their realistic targets changed since.

  70. Micko says:

Kev, must say think you done Gateshead FC a bit of a disservice earlier leaving them outta the loop, proper Geordies.

  71. frednerk says:

At a guess the talk was about a player
called Alex who was in Berlin at the time
putting two and two together the guy
    thought it was Alexandre Lacazette.
Just google fan overhears wenger hotel..rico

  72. allezkev says:

Mick, you’re absolutely right of course…

I was gonna mention Darlington, but I didn’t want to rock the boat…

  73. tsgh says:

    Lol Rico.night.
Micko you know Pardew always fancied emulating AW in more ways than signing French players.
Next January he will probably bring Diaby back to epl. ?

  74. rico says:

What I was getting at is paying nearly £60m for a player who failed the first time round in the Pl is a risk….

But of course, City have a bottomless pit so for them I guess it wouldn’t matter, but I personally hope Arsenal never go down such a path…

    Gone….

  75. Dublingunner says:

Fred I think it went something on the lines of
Wenger asked Gazidas about this guy called Alex, Gazidas says, “yep his still in Berlin. It will continue, do we still go on the second one”?. “Yes as long as it has met the requirements we previously agreed on, they are not easy, we still have time”.

  76. allezkev says:

Fred, that’s the first time I’ve seen that, quite interesting…

What do you think of Lacazette, is he any good, an upgrade on what we have, or is he a French Welbeck?

  77. Dublingunner says:

Damn Cavani scores with a wonderful header v Monaco 0-1, was hoping he,d be left out of squad
for Transfer scenario purposes, ( I wish). Di Maria starts from the bench.

Szczesny denies Juventus in the dying minutes to preserve Roma’s lead. 2-1
    Nite all.

  78. Marshall says:

There is this general concesus that Theo can be ‘allowed’ to have a bad game because ‘ the defence was crowded’ or he had no space to make runs’. Thats the kind of stuff I flush down my toilet, and it stinks!

Are we paying him £140k per week so he can have easy games? If the defence is tight he should adapt and play accordingly! Esp now cause everyone knows how to defend against Wenger. TW should start earning that cheque!

About OG, great guy am thinking of buying his jersey, he’s keeping us afloat this season, best signing I say. Wish the real OG12 that we pay would…who are we kidding. I personally don’t rate him will spare my energy ranting on him.

  79. scottfromoz says:

    Reus and Benzema/Cavani.
The three we have actively pursued.
Reus and Benzema agreed personal terms but their clubs are playing silly buggers on the fee….surprisingly lol
    Lacazette, Kev?
Superstar in the making, and by not paying overs now (on face value), he will be a Chelksi/City guy in a year or two, IMO.
He’s one of the very, very few guys away form Arsenal I’ve watched a bit of and I reckon he’d be absolutely sensational for us.

  80. rogerbij says:

Lacazette signed a new contract a month or two ago… that doesnt look likely, but I agree that I would sign him!

  81. Lee says:

Looks like Wenger’s lack of ambition in this transfer window is nearly over! We will get the list of players we nearly signed…… blah fucking blah!
Where’s all the players from the “months” of negotiations? How can some supporters believe the bollocks that gets spouted by Arsene(al)?

Maybe Wenger rates his players a lot more than everyone

Looks like we are stuck with the squad we’ve got although there’s loads of money in the bank, our direct rivals have strengthened and Wenger sits on his hands! The bloke needs a fucking kick up the arse, he really needs a reality check!

Weren’t we supposed of bid for Draxler a while ago? He’s just signed for Wolfsburg for £20m…..add him to a long list of players that have slipped through our fingers!

  82. Adam says:

Morning Brudder. We all joked about leaving it until the last minute as the season ended didn’t we? Probably thinking that he wouldn’t or couldn’t possibly do it again.
If he wins the PL or CL with this group of players then he will certainly have bragging rights. If, however, the results are not great then again Arsenal will be a house divided against itself. In the meantime we have the discomfort of other teams to divert our attentions.
See how things are tomorrow evening. 🙂

  83. scottfromoz says:

Lee, same guy who told me who we are chasing also told me we’d get Chambers two months before anything was leaked.
    I don’t listen to Arsene.
Adam, there’ll be no bragging about anything if he doesn’t buy 🙂
    Morning all.

  84. Adam says:

Morning Scott. If he doesn’t buy any significant players then he must think this squad is good enough. Surely there is no other explanation that could be considered rational.
    Rational. Now there’s a word. 🙂

  85. scottfromoz says:

Adam, I’d be amazed anyone could think we don’t need strengthening, and especially the man in charge.
    I’m still hoping.
If nothing happens, you’ll not here any effort on my behalf to defend the man.
Simple logic tells us all we fell short last year, and the other clubs have strengthened, so we will fall short again.

  86. bradster says:

    Morning all,

I don’t think Draxler wanted to leave Germany. He refused us last season for that reason, plus Wolfsburg can offer champions league football too.

I think we’re in for Cavanni as Monaco and he wants him to leave.

I wouldn’t mind if we sign Sissoko or Wanyama this trolley dash too.

  87. Adam says:

Scott. We will soon know anyway. But with everything focussed on the next couple of days it’s easy to forget how long the need for certain players has been going on for. None of this is exactly new is it?

  88. rico says:

Not all transfer windows across Europe close tomorrow at 6pm.

First to close is Germany today at 6pm. Italy follows at 11 o’clock. And it’s midnight for France, the Netherlands, Russia and Spain.

That could have an impact on Wenger’s plans. If he has any…….

  89. Lee says:

I truly believe Wenger reckons this squad can win a major trophy…..there lies the problem! That and he’s a tight fucker!

  90. allezkev says:

    Morning All…
    Morning Rico.

Interesting piece in the Irish Times about pay-TV…

Maybe we’re in the midst of the end for pay-TV even if that seems hardly likely following the recent EPL TV deal…?

Having watched TV via an Internet TV box, which you get with a one-off payment and opens up a whole world of free TV via the Web, why pay a SKY or BT subscription?

If that scenario gathers popularity, what of the mamouth TV deals we have now?
They may soon become a thing of the past?

  91. allezkev says:

Yes Rico, I can’t do the link via my phone…

With their interests so intrinsically linked to the EPL, you wouldn’t get the atrocious English media covering such a subject.

  92. Drake says:

Morning all,we wanted benzema but real full payment upfront, cavani wanted to come but yesterday he scored a brace, bayern have not yet responded on gotze.what scares is we are busy trying to sign an attacker but i have not seen a bid for a dm

  93. Adam says:

Scott. As I mentioned earlier, we have been here many, many times. Every year Wenger says he can win the PL and or CL with his squad and every year he is wrong and those who said he can’t are proved right. It’s an obvious and somewhat crude distinction but, in essence, correct. The two FA Cups bought him time and the years of financial prudence have bought him the cash. Not to put the two together seems, at this range, to be inept, naive, arrogant, short-sighted, shrewd, masterful or whatever term you might choose to apply.
It’s all obviously a lot more complicated than that rather simplified view of things and presents the sensible Arsenal supporter with yet another bout of the decade-long contradiction and confusion where Wenger is concerned. He has become Arsenal in a way that no other ever has. In essence it is his club in all but financial ownership. Ultimately he will do what he wants, guided by whatever demons and trusts motivate his thinking. If he doesn’t win a biggie once again, will anything change?

  94. allezkev says:

The thing is Rico, it was TV money that drew all these foreign investors in the the first place, to the EPL…

If, all of a sudden, your average football fan can get his footie fix via an £80 box, connected to his Wi-Fi TV, then where’s the motivation to fill the coffers of SKY and BT?

You can also see a those latest TV series from the USA before they come on SKY Atlantic or terrestrial TV….

    It’s really very good….

Not sure that the EPL and their mates in the media will see it the same way… 😉
