I have always tried to be optimistic as far as The Arsenal goes but I must admit I am beginning to have a worry….
Defensive frailties were our undoing and we are in no uncertain terms in the deep stuff!
Wenger and the board have stated that in this transfer window we will endeavour to strengthen up in this area but up to now we have purchased one youngster that plays in defence but he is not experienced and would not be able to offer the first team any improvement, he still has a long way to go.
We have been looking to strengthen in the centre back position as this is one of the positions that has been our Achilles heel and most supporters expect changes and as of yet we are still waiting.
As the transfer window opened, two centre backs were linked to us straight away – Cahill and Samba.
Both players were optimistic that we were going to make offers for them and include them in our plight for next season but, to date both players are still attached to their own clubs. If the reports are correct offers for Cahill have been submitted from other clubs but Bolton appear to have turned their bids down.
Who knows if that is true…
What has surprised me the most though is, as soon as the transfer window opened Mr Wenger decided to travel to South America, on what we understand to be a scouting mission, although I haven’t heard officially its a scouting mission, it could be just a well-earned holiday.
Either way, with a team that has big problems at the back which need sorting, it was a strange time for our manager to go abroad but as we all know Arsene works in mysterious ways!!
We have Nasri in the last year of his current contract, he’s been asked to extend this for a further few years but he’s dragging his heels and is yet to sign before he becomes a free agent and leaves. Arsene Wenger has this transfer window to either sell Nasri or get him to sign a new contract as after this window the likelihood would be that he’d leave it to the end and walk away for nothing!
Suggestion is that talks are to carry on this week, who knows what will happen….
Cesc Fabregas is another player who seems to cause concerns every transfer window, it is clear to all that Fabregas is a player that Barcelona have shown interest many times and it has not helped the situation that the player himself has shown interest in going back to the club that put him on the path of greatness but it has to be said that Wengers guiding hand has made Cesc into the player he is today.
In these days of big money transfers and the fact that Arsenal Football Club is well-known for its frugal spending, Cesc has been used as a pawn. Supporters can see that if Fabregas was sold, the money made on him could finance new players and although fans know this, they would still see Cesc as a major player for us and seeing how he still is under contract for some years, they believe he will stay.
We are almost halfway through the transfer window and although we have been promised a busy time of it, it still seems very quiet.
Arsene not being here has not helped and maybe some Managers are waiting for his return in the hope that he will put offers in for their players?
If that is the case Wenger could be in danger of missing the boat as these managers who have to sell will want to do so quickly and in time to bring in replacements. Wheeling and dealing in transfers takes time and they won’t want to leave it to the last moment and perhaps missing out on their replacements.
Or maybe all this talk about being busy this summer is just an Arsenal ploy to get bums on seats in the sixty thousand seater stadium?
Wengers mysterious disappearance and the lack of any Arsenal news is beginning to weigh heavily on supporters minds! Past seasons in the transfer window come flooding back, excuses that the right players are unavailable or deals fell through at the last-minute, or that the second string have been readied to bring us through these worrying times, we’ve heard them all haven’t we?
I hope that’s not the case but it makes you wonder, things are awfully quiet aren’t they….
Maybe I am worrying when needn’t, perhaps Wenger has struck his deals and they are just waiting for his return before everything is finalised, or maybe as soon as he returns, he will announce what we have all waited to hear.
We all seem in a quandary and unsettled, maybe Arsene’s return will put paid to all our worries, I certainly hope so.
Then hopefully we can look forward to the start of the season.
Written by Steve Palmer.
i just hope the transfers dont fall apart we need these players so badly they are close and we just cant afford to slip up by trying to negotiate the price down comeon wenger pay a little more to definately get gervinho time will tell what happens but dont hold your breath
I still think there will be a shock.
All this talk from the press about Wenger buying this player and that player but if truth be known I don’t believe we will buy anyone for the simple reason that Wenger is afraid to spend more than a few million on all players and with Samba and Cahill being priced at about £12-17 m respectively plus Gervinho at roughly £12m that is about £40 m and I don;t believe that Arsenal have that amount of money to spend on players, however I would like to be proved wrong. What do other people think?
Once again the spectre of David Dein rises over an article. Surely someone else can do the work it doesn’t only have to be Wenger.Gazidis was quoted at the q&a session as saying he didn’t know exactly what DD did. Well that was it. The manager said” here is my list” Dein went and got them. Perhaps that’s what Gazidis should be doing now.
International transfer window opens 1st July
Let’s not create an issue and stay calm and keep faith
We have been promised signings and they will come
No doubt people will still moan but at least wait till then and don’t add to the negativity on the web
Still think we will buy a few players and spend a lot of money. There has been a lot of football played in Siuth America over the last month so I’m guessing that AW will have taken in a few matches. Not sure how that fits with the theory that we need experienced Premier League players. The crazy money Manure and LFC have been paying for unproven teenagers has done us no favours in buying from within the premier league with BRFC and BWFC rightly using these as a yard stick for their own sales. Still along way to go yet and in reality, teenagers aside, nothing much has happened anywhere transfer wise. Best judge in a months time in my opinion.
I think Gazidis is there to save the club money he talks about a busy transfer summer but I think its him trying to hold onto the purse strings When David Dein was there You never heard anything from him He just produced players So for me “Bring Back Dein”
Morning all Will, i agree, Charley boy will surprise us i an sure of that, and i believe it will be good surprises.
Morning Judith, i’m sure your not strange at all, I believe you could be plesently surprised, as we all will be, South America, i expect will throw up some surprises and could be the catalyst for future Arsenal successes, at least i hope so
Morning all
Nice post again Steve – 1st July transfers i think but like you, i’m having a worry…
I echo your thoughts Potter and PMM but David Deins days at Arsenal are over in my honest opinion the board may have considered it but i believe the shareholders hold the final word on the future of The Arsenal and i wouldn’t think Deins inclusion is in their plans,
The only way i see DD coming back is if the Russian ever steps in but even then I wouldn’t be sure – i think he is history s far a being involved with afc goes….
SY4, not for domestic transfers, they can be signed as soon as the season closes, just makes me think that we are more likely signing overseas players…
I do agree that we need to bring back DD to Arsenal as head of player transfer. He was brilliant at it.
The role and brilliance of David Dein is being exaggerated big time. He did some huge good and was a real asset but let’s not go over the top. Dein’s most successful transfers were as cheap as chips or free – Vieira, Petit, Ljunberg, Big Sol. The only deal over ten million that worked was TH14 a player who AW had been tracking for years. The others, Reyes, Jeffers, Wiltord were all questionable when it comes to impact. He also had very mixed results when negotiating contracts – Anelka, Cole, Vieira etc. Dein was a great guy but need to keep in perspective I think.
Morning rico,
I was up early this morning and was going through some of our games last season, not so much the later ones but i had forgotten just how good our side is even without change they could still win the league with what we have, longevity is a problem for us in my view, we start very well and played some spectacular football but as injuries crop up and tiredness sets in a couple of bad results and the enthusiasm went down, make no mistake we have some fantastic players but we tend to forget with a string of bad results to look back on. Yes we had some terrible defending mistakes and struggled to recover but i believe with just a few tweaks we will be the team to chase again
Extremely concerned. I thought after last season’s debacle we’ll quickly move in and sign the defenders and the defensive mid fielder we need. But nothing so far. I hope I don’t hear from Wenger we tried but could not sign and so on. Just compare this with Manu, how quickly they have moved to sign the players they feel they need.
Welcome back JJ where you been mate, soaking up the sun, and sme great points.
Fair points JJ but at least DD made Wenger buy someone.
I was having a similar coversation not long ago about what you have just written, why do we seem to be the only team who’s fitness drops as the season goes on etc..
I think it is down to the lack of depth in our squad, we cannot rotate/rest players as many who are in reserve are not quite up to it. Then, Wenger has to play his strongest 11/13 each game and the players don’t get a proper rest. Then, when they are jaded, they get injured….
4 players in would change that, the right ones of course 😉
Thats not the same JJ Steve, I think DD did good but he’s gone… The problem with afc is the board as much as it is wenger, they are all toothless when it comes to spending money…..
Some good points there rico, Cesc was used when he should have been rested, which resulted in him being carried, when you have one or two in the squad who maybe having an off day and you have to carry someone as well it all adds up to a loss
Thing is, now we have Rambo fit at last, Cesc can be rested..
Yeah just to confirm I’ve never posted here before; thanks for the reply though. Will post as Jax74 from now on.
Thats why i think Cesc is off too Steve, surely Wenger wouldn’t risk our best player if he was staying another season..? I still think the deal was done last summer…
JJ, no probs – good to see you stayed around, we get many who pop on and then go again, welcome on board… 🙂
Rico, the board in my opinion know very little about football, they rely on one of the best Managers in the world, Wengers Pholosiphy is youth, he see’s a team from scratch to stardom as being a success. Where we see any winning way as the solution, We are as big a club as any other in the world Probably ranking in the top 5 richest Wenger has his beliefs and unless profits went down, the board will stick with him through the thick and thin of it, Wenger will not be bullied into paying exhorbitant prices, he will persevere and find new avenues to aquire the talent needed for a realistic price
My apologies Jax a misunderstanding
Agree Steve re the board, but i think it’s all about money, they love wenger for not being a spender but i also think they think the sun shines out of his rear – any other manager would be history by now…
Still, I just hope the old Wenger will be back in action in a couple of weeks time…
Got to pop off now, back later on
Enjoy the sunshine….
I think you will be plesently surprised rico.
Its gonna be hot Factor 50 may not be enough.
You say, “Who knows if that is true…” which is about the only true thing anyone can say at the moment!
BE PATIENT!!!! Don’t panic!! Keep Calm and Carry On, etc….!!
Just because the internet updates rumours, gossip and (frankly) absurd rubbish about potential Arsenal signings every five minutes courtesy of things like News Now, it doesn’t mean that time is passing any more quickly in the REAL world.
In the REAL WORLD, Arsenal don’t just start to look for players once the season ends – they’re ALWAYS looking for players and will have several targets identified for a variety of scenarios already.
It doesn’t matter that Wenger went to South America (either for scouting or holiday), things would have been in place for his two week absence.
For a start, Gazidis needs to get an agreement with a club before Wenger can talk directly to any potential signing anyway – he may be doing so this week now he’s back.
It’s NOT EASY buying players – even with funds available to do so. People often comment about it as if it’s like going shopping at Tesco! Contracts are always in place, agents are angling for the best slice of fee, clubs need to line up replacements, etc etc. That’s before the haggling starts over wages and payment terms.
The board clearly know A LOT about football, football club management AND the fans feelings. Just because we haven’t won a trophy for 6/7 years doesn’t change this. You can’t ALWAYS get what you want as Mick used to say…
Finally, as posted here a few times already, player contracts run until June 30th, So for many legal (and tax) reasons, new contracts can’t start until July 1st. True, Manure have already grabbed Young and Jones, but even the Manure website uses words like “have reached agreement with…”. The contracts will be dated July 1st and there is insurance in place between now and then that decides ownership in case of injury.
Manure always keen to do business early and fast but it sometimes comes back to haunt them (viz. announcing signing of Aaron Ramsey on their own official website!).
I know it’s been really frustrating over the past few years – believe me!!! – but we might need to be patient for just a few more weeks.
Now go out and enjoy the sunshine!
Good morning
I’m waiting for the next week…
I really have a feeling there will be a press conference called and Wenger seen grinning with 4 or 5 top players.
Will spot on mate, expect a very good start to the new season, and an even better end to the season as well. My early prediction is
Arsenal
Chelsea
Man city
Man u
Spurs
Liverpool
Hi guys! This is my first time writing on here, so be gentle! I think what steve has just said is bang on. Year after disapointing year of not winning a trophy do we hear the same chants by unhappy Arsenal fans that maybe the time has come for AW to hang up his boots! However, if you compare our wage bill to the likes of Manure, chelski and now Man shity it is considerably lower, therefore generating a better profit margin for the club yet still being able to compete with them for titles and finishing in the top four! After last season, all clubs in the premier league will be fully aware that our weakness was in our defence and as a result know that AW will need to make the necessary signings to bulster the squad in this area to stand a chance next season. Cahil, Samba and Jagielka are all major players for their respected clubs, not to mention two of them being english, so there is no surprise that we are going to have to fight with these clubs if we are serious about signing them! AW has never, and will never be bullied into paying extortionate fees for players in the EPL when he knows he can sign players with the same ability, if not better and probably a FEW years younger from abroad. Does the lack of signings as yet frustrate me? Of course it does, but why should we be held to ransom by clubs that know that AFC are not a big money club when it comes to transfer fees, and therefore know that all they have to do to shrug off interest for their big players is increase the asking price! Is this not what we are doing to Barca for cesc? If Barca were to come in for him at the asking price i think that it would finally bring an end to this saga, although i believe that the deal has already been done, and was probaly decided in January! Come July 1st i think we will be bidding far well to our captain fantastic, and i for one wish him all the best! It is widely reported that Alvarez has signed for us, who looks quite a steal at £11m! Im sure like me you will have seen the videos on you tube, and if he performs like that regularly, with Nas signing a new contract we should be ok! I have faith in ‘le prof’, as frustrating as it is at times, but i try to look at seasons ahead as well as current and if he can make a few key signings, not only will we be right in the mix this season but also for seasons to come! The futures bright, the future is ARSENAL!
I just have a feeling from Wenger’s post season words and his in season body language. Can anyone here remember Wenger being so mad during games?
When DD was around the board allowed Wenger to spend, now Wenger has had his hand tied since 2006. DD would have made a very small difference if he was allowed to stay.
We all know that this year will be the year of big spending due to new rules, but the board have stated that they will stick to their business model.
What I cannot understand is supporters blaming Wenger for not spending, it’s not his money and he does not do the negotiations. Perhaps we should apprieciate what Wenger has done for the club and not jump on the journalists bandwagon of disrespectful comments made agianst our club.
The board will spend this year but how much is still unknown.
Wenger will do his best, but there are so many things that can affect our approach in the transfer market, Let’s hope we retain.the players we want to keep, achieve our targets and remove the deadwoodnsfer market.
No will i can’t
Makes me think he feels badly let down and I honestly believe there will be some big changes.
I also think his actions and words say alot Will! I think he really thought that this was our year, and when it all started falling apart he was as shocked as we were! We should have come away with something this year, and when the season ended trophyless, he knew that this was going to be an active close season. He asked Cesc for one more season, which he gave, but having failed he then knew a replacement for him was imenant at the least! TV also being out also highlighted a known but underestimated weakness in the squad, and therefore has perhaps forced him into submission. I have no doubt he has it all under control and the signings he wants almost complete! All the talk about the AFC board only being in it for the money is rubbish! Do you think AW would be so passionate about this team if his only agenda was to make the club money??
when’s he back?
theres no doubt in my mind that last year was our year but the lads let hin down badly. Cesc’s early injury for me was the key, although as you have stated Jack and Aaron are big plus’s but a bit to early for them to fill Cesc’s boots, Nas never came in when he was really needed and Arshaven struggled the whole season, without doubt Wenger was let down big time the goalkeeping injuries never helped the situation and Vermaelens absence all season was a killer the mix and match produced kosi and JD but still errors cost us dear, with deni and diaby trying there hardest to have the worst season since they have been here, they let their Manager down big time
Anybodies guess KG
well, I am not an optimist. If he wanted Samba and Cahill he needed have gone to South America
The deals either been done, or Wenger wants somthing completely different. we wont have to long to wait before we all know the answer.
Hey Steve, God hear you!
Faye White plays in women’s England team. We have more players there?
Hi Jm, is there nothing you dont know. you still having good weather, really hot here today
A little incorrect factually (sort of tabloid error huh!!)
The transfer window s not ‘already half over’ it is infact not yet opened. most of the premier league sidess have announced less business than ourselves so far.
Holidays I dont suppose it would be unreasnoble for AW to take a holiday at this time,(whatwith the playing season finished and transfer season still closed) We do seem to live and breathe Arsenal 24/7 but the emplyees do ned a break and time off to reflect and recharge AW is no different, it would seem to me this would be the best time of the year to take one.
Remember AFC is our pastime/pleasure for some it is there job.
Always read and gennerally love the blog.:-)
Defoe has been at the Emirates for talks!!!!!
Philbet good points i stand corrected, theres always somebody that knows more than you and i am always willing to learn i hope my mistakes don’t make you blog elsewhere its people like you we try our best to please, obviously not everything i write is perfect and i will take your advice and try and improve, whem Wenger tells us whether his on holiday or working when his home or when he intends to come back would unearth some of the questions we endeaver to find out
In all fairness the Cahill/ Samba stuff has come from the media trying to place our bids for us, and the players and their agents saying that we are interested. Chances are that we are buying abroad again and hopefully selling too.
great post steve, everyone is worried wish we get a cb signing first than anyone whoever is linked with us…..hope the deals have been done and bring us some relief when they are announced…..
Have ricky been unveiled yet. Am really excited about this one. He does remind me of kaka…..the way he moves. Can’t wait am about to die of anticipation.
The natural feeling Potter is that if Wenger states that the defence needs beefing up a bit and he intends to buy we assume he means defenders available, with Cahill and Samba making headlines one would assume they may be a good option.
Arsenal fan & Goonerstan, I agree Rickyboy does sound a good buy, i am with you i only hope the rumours are true, and whether Cesc stays or not would offer quite a lot to us
Narsi stays fabregas goes fog 35 mil with thiago and jeffern and clichy goes and vermlean goes left back and samba and Cahill go centre backs
Hi steve I don’t think its a rumor. We have indeed signed ricky Alvarez . He will be unveiled pretty soon along with other players. Am guessing gevinho and chamberlain. Wait for it. U heard it here first.

I have one thing to add to this, the league champions saw weaknesses in their side and has already filled most of them. Take a holiday by all means, but after the work is done, not while it needs doing.
Well said Will
Cheers Goonerstan I’ll remember that.
As I have said Steve, our targets should have been sorted before the last game of teh season and as soon as the whistle blew on the season, the phones should have started ringing. Then, Wenger can have a press conference and state who we have for the new season and everyone could have enjoyed the summer.
I have a feeling Will, that Wenger had his plans well prepared, he’s a crafty old bugger he has seen an opportunity that other managers have missed in S America he would know who he wants to see and hopfully secure, and he will get his moneys worth.
Reckon Alverez would be more of a replacement for Nasri or Arshavin. Not Cesc.
Potter you could be right i read that he play’s the same position as Cesc, if i speak the truth i don’t know that much about him, but have read he’s pretty spectacular
From what I have gathered, he is more a Pires type player and that is something we miss.
Joan Capdevila, left-back who works in Villarreal’s coach Pep Guardiola plans to strengthen the left-back for Barcelona, according to Sunday news that the Catalan newspaper “Sport”.
The Spanish international, 33, is seen by boat as the ideal solution for the sides, due to the low cost of operation, after the failed acquisition of Jose Angel (Sp Gijon) and Jose Enrique (Newcastle).
Enrique – Arsenal?
Pastore (50 millions) Palermo – Chelsea?
Falcao (Porto) 30 millions – Chelsea
F. Coentrao (Benfica) R. Madrid or chelsea?
yes, Potter, I think so.
Very hot here too
Makes you think that this year could be pretty interesting, a Pires maybe a Viera and an Adams and if we are really lucky a Jennings and Henry.
Steve, that would be amazing.
Ricky looks like a beast.lets hope it turns out that way steve.
That would stop Charley boy doing Basil Falty i know
rumours are that manu will bid 20 million for samir nasri ,maybe alvarez is a replacement for nasri?
£20 million should secure him then, although i like Nasri £20 million can buy you alot, he is probably good for half a season, where Jack will give you his all
Don’t think £20m will buy you a new Nasri though.
Sory Ktr7 was called out to cut the lawn and never saw your comment but if you should call back, i agree with you he sounds right up my street.
Good post Steve…
SP: 1:17pm… “There’s no doubt in my mind that last year was our year, but the lads let him [AW] down badly”.
Therefore pointing, hopefully, to a reasonably dramatic turnaround in playing staff…
Gotta say, i’m coming around to Will’s way of thinking…
Fair comment Will, you always make a good point, the man is quality your right as usual but £20mill could persuade a lot of managers
Steve, that is what you have to look at when you want to sell a player, can you get equal or better for the money you are getting for your player.
Hi AK, Will has his view and most of the time i agree with him, if your refering to big changes i am coming round to that way of thinking, but i still think this team with a few tweaks could win somthing, but with the arrival of the Argentine and a few more we will never know
Don’t think Wenger will sell one of his best players to ManUre. Remember when Ferguson refused to sell Heinze to L’pool. He’d never sell to and strengthen a competitor. And nor should Arsenal, unless we have no alternative.
Kev, we are cash rich, we have no reason to sell.
Hello SP, that’s why it was so frustrating last season, it was there for the taking.
Hi Will, yeah, i think it was JJ who said we should pay him what he wants, get him to sign a 4 or 5 year contract and then sell him.
Will all i can say at the moment is give me a season to answer that one, Alvarez may just answer that for me, hopefully he will only be part of the squad but should Nas go, Wages and fees have a big part to play in proffesional football and although i wouldn’t like to see Nas go finances play a big part.
Not that i want him to leave, because i don’t. But i also don’t wanna see him do a Flamini. Maybe PSG would stump up the dough?
Now inter have bid €12 mil for Alvarez.we dallied and with zanetti’s influence we’ll most likely lose out and he’ll go on to be a great player.
Again i agree with both of you, we may never have a better chance than we did this year, and we are a rich club as you rightly said Will, but even to wealthy shareholders they can still turn a profit out of that deal like it or not
I had the inpression it was a done deal KT
I have a feeling we are past the age of the free out now we have Stan in charge.
I reckon we’ll miss out on Alvarez.
Trouble is though Will, pay him the money he wants becomes a problem, if you sell, only a few clubs could afford him, and is he worth the money, A full season playing as he did earlier and i would say pay him and sod it but i think that is questionable
Don’t say that KT, i just got myself in gear
Why did Roma pull out of a deal for Alvarez, as Palermo also did??
Maybe it’s down to the player himself?
Wenger’s visit to South America could have been to seal the deal?
Or not??
Will keep my fingers crossed AK that could also be a nugdge for Nas
I would set a defined pay structure and let everyone know that when you reach this level, you get this wage and so on.
We won’t get Alvarez.its typical Arsenal to scout a player for half a decade only for us to dally and some other club beats us to the player.jones/Ronaldo/kompany…
Evening All
Sorry for the delay for those just come on, comments went into moderation but will now go straight on….
If inter are really interested we’ll miss out.Serie A is a really attractive proposition for Argentinians.in 09/10 season 209 plied their trade there and am sure that tally has increased.inter is filled with Brazilians/Argies.if we haven’t signed him yet or not close to doing it bye bye to Alvarez.
Allevez is done imho, Wenger is just waiting for July 1st…
Why then have inter bid rico?…am not so sure on that.
Mind you KT with Tevez zabeleta Santa Cruz plying their trade here do you not think this is attractive as well
Excuse my ignorance Rico, what does imho mean?
in my honest opinion you doughnut
Hmmm, jam doughnuts i hope…lol
my favorites AK
AK whats LOL
Not lots of love apparently
Quality Potter
Arsenal really need to sort out their PR department.
Tevez wants to leave rico.most of the Argie squad plies its trade in Italy.when push comes to shove he’ll join inter within the blink of an eye.inter also win bucketloads while we win nuff all.sorry guys but thats the truth and we have to face up to it.if inter have put in a bid we won’t get him.
It looks like lots of people are expecting signings on Friday…there will be lots of disappointed fans that day.am not expecting anyone to be unveiled.
Have they got one Will.
KT don’t underestimate us, Wenger has a good name all over and if he’s been hands on in this situation he has a way with him, i wouldnt say its quite so clear cut. and i am normally wrong too
Steve i just don’t have that much faith in the man anymore.i may be wrong but my gut feeling is we’ll lose out and we’ll regret it.
I certainly hope your wrong KT, i could go doolally tatt if i’ve waited all this time for FA
To be honest, why should any of us believe what we read on NewsNow or any of the other outlets?
Do any of them really know?
All they do is spin out tittle-tattle intended to get us excited/wind us up in equal measure.
They’re all a bunch of tossers.
I hope so too steve.its just that we’ve seen this sitiuations more often than not at our club.
bloody internet crashed again, sorry guys 🙁
inter are just trying to gazzump the deal…. if Ricky wan’ts to join us, he will…. if he doesn’t then, we don’t want him anyway….
AK, the only site to read and believe is Highbury House 😆 😆 😆 Ok, what I really mean is afc.com 🙂
Kt, Thursday is the 1st, that is when AW will announce our signings.. IF they have been signed…
The latter is the bit i am not so sure about…..
Then it isn’t a done deal rico is it?
We haven’t signed anybody and thats a fact.
I really don’t think so Steve, the trickle that comes out of Arsenal is atrocious.
Always makes me laugh, its as if anybody we look at another club wants to scupper our plans, all our players are more or less up for sale as we intend clearing out some, and the only ones that clubs want are two that are not for sale, i think i can smell a Rat. No wonder Wenger dissapears to do his home work and he is no mug. We are a hated club by other clubs without a shadow of a doubt, i cannot put my finger on why but it dosn’t stop there watching some early last season games this morning it stood out really badly how decisions went against us, i know everybody that is not Arsenal say its rub of the green and how much we whinge and moan, but there is no doubt in my mind there are powers at be that are against us without question.
I class myself as a level headed bloke, but i have been on quite a few blogsites and read loads of blogs the same as most of you and what i have found is that there is a load of crap out there but one blog that cought my eye was a site that had commited themselves to study refferee’s i read their blog quite often and it came about that Clattenburge was against Arsenal, but as soon as they posted when Clattenburge was reffing us he played very fair now that stinks to me
We are a hated club by other clubs without a shadow of a doubt,
I have thought that for a while now.
You are right Kt, as it stands, we have only signed the kids from Barca and Jenkinson…
No matter what is written, until it is formal, we have nothing to be excited about….
How many spins will the media make to the fabregas saga?why the hell are they so eager to see the best players leave the league?i bet you if messi played for us they would constantly link him to barca/madrid but the spanish media never link their best players away from their league.
The only reason I think Ricky is a done deal as the news broke a while ago, after which, the big ‘lets hush it up’ followed….
When will you all realise – we hear every transfer window we are going to sign this player that player – we are not going to sign any one of note
because the truth is we do not have the money. I cannot believe Wenger who is our greatest manager does not know he needs a commanding centre half – the only reason we have not signed one is we do not have the funds to bid big.
We have to sell Cesc or Nasri to raise the money or sell a few players like Bendtner, Denilson, Eboue and the like to riase 25million.
I don’t wnat Cesc or Nasri to go so we have to hope teams come in and buy our cast offs for a few million and no-one has yet and if they don’t we will not sign any one
Hi s pearson – i understand why you say what you do, i think most of us feel the same, had all the hype not been started by wenger and gazidis, we would expect very little again….
however, they finally need to put their money where their mouths are… and thats why we hope……..
It looks like our megastar signings will be jenkinson and maybe Gervinho.am expecting very little now.it will be the same old story again…
Kt, don’t be too down hearted, not just yet… I’m keeping hope until 8 july – after that, Wenger can naff off….
If Wenger doesn’t strengthen as we and everyone knows he has to and he himself has admitted he has to, this will be his last season.
Wont happen…Wenger will argue and haggle every penny
and the deals will fall a part.
Funny to read the Lille says that there has been NO formal approach
from Arsenal. Gervinho deal is not even close.
Hi Will, I think you are right…..
Hi S Pearson, you have just said a mouthfull there and you could be absolutly right, you sound to me that you are a very frustrated Gooner, but tell me SP did you at anytime last season believe we could win something with the team we had which was worth less than what Chelsea paid for Torres, in my eyes we could quite easily won a treble last year, with teams around us with players worth fortunes we held our own and should have done better with just a tweak at the right time it could have been so much better the players we have were good enough but they didn’t perform when it mattered Utd may of been haild as champions but only becaus we and others gave it to them, have a bit of faith in your club and i believe you will be plesently surprised
Thing is Steve, should we, Arsenal, the Bank of England club be saying, look how small and cheap our players are and we still nearly did it?
Good for you rico.its just my gut feeling that we won’t sign what we need.with wenger pretty much calling the shots on everything from wages to transfer fees.the market is inflated and if you really want a player sometimes you’ve got to overpay as thats the current marketrate.Arsene will rather we lose out on a good player than pay a few extra mil.its the same old story.
Look i want what you guys want trophys in that cabinett make no mistake on that, but watching those games this morning and seeing how those lads were passing the ball around watching some of Robins goals and Nas when he was somthing else showed me that you don’t always have to spend Millions to get a team of good footballers, some of our play was breathtaking and those youngsters up against some of the players you want Wenger to buy wer made to look second rate, i believe Wenger will buy whether he buys superstars which i doubt or players that can become superstars, we will have to wait and see. personally i would rather a team that can play consistantly all season, and if these youngsters can i believe we have the makings of some of our hero’s
Wenger went straight to South America to get the Alvarez deal sorted, that is my understanding of it.
He beleives that signing a replacement for Nasri/Fabregas asap as the biggest priority. The defenders he sees as possibilities are not going anywhere else so we can wait for them.
Alvarez is a key signing IMO as well as Gervinho, and Samba with Clichy singing a new deal, Fabregas staying another year and Nasri leaving.
Steve i agree with what you’re saying but nowadays the market is inflated so you have to pay a few extra mil sometimes especially if a player is worth the extra buck.
Steve, good comment – i have always said, i don’t care if Wenger doesn’t sign superstars, most come with baggage anyway…
I just want him to sign the players we ned for the positions we are lacking in, i want players who will throw their body on the line for the shirt they wear…
If that is Cahill, Samba or some SA guy i have never heard of, i don’t care, as long as he fights for the right to wear the shirt….
I agree with what a lot of you at the end of last season, get rid of the deadwood and fit in players that can play, hopefully as good as we can afford and we will still be a major force, at the moment i believe we need defenders i dont care about midfielders we have loads that can change a game now, defenders were a problem the season before last and last season as well , thats where we should start and a keeper as well.
Welome Geo and Gerry…
I think its Cesc going and Nasri staying, but, thats only my view…..
If i had to choose id keep cesc and let the ponce go.
Kt, Cesc is done….. But, if we could get 25M for nasri, he can go too….
No he isn’t rico.
KT I agree if you have to pay extra then pay the bloody money, and get the best we can afford, doing what city and Chelsea do, buy at any cost is bloody stupid and bad economy spend a lot on a player and you keep on spending to pay his wages that is irresponsible, Wenger is shrewder than that and that is what makes him the Manager he is
It is not about signing “superstars” it is about signing the very best and not second tier players. Do we ever get linked with players Man Utd, Chelsea, Barca or Real do? Very raely, we always get linked with players Bolton or Aston Villa are adter, what does this tell you?
Guys, got to go now – will put a post up early tomorrow and then i’m heading home so will catch you sometime in the afternoon…
be good, and have a lovely evening…
Thanks again Steve, for today and tomorrow 😉
Nighty all….
For all his bag of tricks nasri is a pretty pointless player most of the time.
but for the first half of the season Kt, everyone was raving about how good he was…..
anyway, we’ll have to wait and see what happens…. i’m not fussed about either…
Will, just before i go – what that tells us is wenger won’t pay the money that other clubs will… that is basically it… 🙁
Kt, i mean cesc is done in, both mentally and physically, he is no longer at arsenal…..
Aren’t you tired of seeing headlines like ‘Arsenal battle with Sunderland and Newcastle for…’.its bloody depressing for a team that is 3rd richest behind the mancs and madrid and 7th most valuable sports team in the world according to Forbes magazine.
Night rico safe journey and your very welcome
hi!
I just watching River Plate be relegate to second division! The fist time is his history! The team with nost first champion titles in Argentina.
Problems in the end…
Nasri leaves? I don’t know. MU have now Young and Dani maybe leave;
Fabregas stay? I’m not sure. He is really concentrate and commit with us? If not, I don’t problems inside the team.
I’ll leave you all with this thought…
Matthew Upson….

Exactly.
We are definitely no longer a top tier European club that consists of the mancs/chavs/barca/madrid/milan/inter/bayern.we are second tier with the likes of porto/lyon/sevilla/athletico…its bloody depressing.
KT your frustrations are my frustrations i get pissed reading thatb as well but i honestly don’t think following the mob is always the way to go, as i said earlier i thought we were good enough to do well last year, i have not changed my mind but with hindsight and looking back i can see we can better the team with a few signings, i believe Wenger has also seen this and i think he will do his best to get players in, when i said earlier about superstars it may of not been the best description i could have used but i think you get the picture of as good as we can afford without going silly, that done and i can see a rosey new season.
Will My favourite was ‘Larsson snubs Arsenal…’…WTF!!!
I’m sorry guys i don’t see us as second to anyone, in my mind we have beaten Chelsea we beat Utd we beat Barca are those teams second rate, and we beat them fair and square i will never see us as second to any team and i have no doubts we will show that next season. Our kids may of not played well all season but we beat the best this league has to offer.
Steve i get you and i think we are on the same side.my point is that we don’t have to rely on bargains anymore as we have the cash.time for purchases like silvestre and bischoff has to come to an end.we’re not asking him for him to spend £50mil on Torres,we just want sensible spending.we’ve scouted Ricky for 3 years, velez want £12mil just give it to them if we know he is quality.penny pinching has cost us from signing the likes of Ronaldo who is a Ballon d’or winner.Arsene keeps reminding us of how close we were to signing him.it will happen again with ricky if he doesn’t act fast.
Thats me done, i hope i have not offended anyone and thank you all for some blinding company talk again soon nighty night
Don’t forget steve we ended up potless too.we were also the only team to face both of them.
No problem steve.if only the fans had the same passion as we do…
*the players*
KT i must admit he is a tight fucker and could open the purse strings just now and again and show the fans we are still bidding, Maybe he will soon but untill he does night all

Giant-killing?
Will don’t forget Burnley were also able to beat us and the chavs on their way to the CC semis a few seasons back…wolves beat city, mancs, chavs, pool and totts last season.
Exactly so I am sorry, saying but we beat…. doesn’t cut it.
We should be expected to beat these, not rejoicing because we did.
How many here think Arsenal should have their target, ask how much and then pay?
Attention: Attention: Wind-Up alert…..
Arsenal linked to Valencia’s Juan Mata for £18million…
Wenger didn’t go to South America that was a false story…because at the time they saiid Wenger was in South America…he was commentating for the France Games and speaking on things in France…I think we will get our few guys we’re heavily linked with right now and if Fab goes then we’ve got more money
