Arsene making transfer excuses already….

Well it’s only early July and after the early signing of Granit Xhaka things have gone a little quiet on the buying side. I think we had all hoped for some pro-active business from the Club and had hoped for two or three quality faces to have been identified and brought in already but it’s not happened.

I am not saying it won’t happen but our transfer history over the last five or so seasons leaves all Arsenal fans wondering how the transfer window will turn out as another false dawn of “if only’ or is this the window we finally buy the players necessary to push us on to be competitive on all fronts for the whole season. The worry is Xhaka is the only quality signing we make and come September we get all the excuses as to why we missed out on A, B and C player and why they went elsewhere.

We now have Arsene telling us “brexit” isn’t good for football and makes transfer harder as salaries some how will be affected for clubs trying to attract players to the premier league, quite how he comes to that conclusion I don’t know but is this his way of softening the blow of us not buying the players we want? we’ve heard it all before from Arsene so it wouldn’t be  a surprise but hopefully it’s Arsene being Arsene and just answering a question form the media about all things football and non football which they know he responds to.

We know the kind of players we need, we have done for a long while now, the continued we are really only two quality players short is a comment we all seem to make the first week in September but with fan unrest at an all time high and the finances at an all time high with so much cash in the bank it really is time for the club to show their appetite to compete and stop talking about being a big club and act like one.

We seem to penny pinch all the time, we never want to pay the going rate and yet we paid the necessary for Xhaka…. That kind of shows we can and will buy and pay when we want to, why not do that for the remaining areas we need strengthening and why not get the business done quickly so players have time to settle into pre-season and get accustomed to their new team mates. The question we all want to know is are we busy behind the scenes lining up the players we hopefully have identified over the last 6/12 months or are we procrastinating……..

Time will tell.

As if he’d bother reading it Dev, I have not managed 1,600 games as a manager so what do i know…!

  2. Wath says:

I didn’t forget the Jap fella Dev I just don’t consider him a quality addition until proven otherwise mate… Think we all know where we been with those kinds of buys before…!

I did say quality players in the post, ones for the future and for shirt sales don’t count..!

  3. Oh Please says:

Four days into the transfer window and the children are moaning already…………………but at least the author is honest; it is rubbish and he doesn’t have any management experience……….

  4. Wath says:

oh please, Least I can count, seems to me the transfer window been open a lot longer than four days and where exactly are “us” children moaning rather than citing a concern…?

Another to come on here make a smart arse comment and vanish….

  5. Wavy says:

Of Oh please. It must be Wenger in disguise! Offensively defensive of policies and purchases! It must be him?

    Afternoon All…

Rico goes off to some exotic island somewhere and we get some old tosh written someone whose just got out of the pub, ffs, things aren’t like they used to be…

    Oh, afternoon Wath…

  7. Wath says:

Afternoon Kev, yep sorry mate a load of old rubbish by a non 1,600 game manager…. oh well shit happens but least you children lap it up..!

The Hawleys Arms has such a great little beer garden the brick wall so inspires me…!

  8. allezkev says:

The Hawley Arms is a fine institution Wath, many a fine scholar has emerged from its bosom… ?

So, that Armenian geezer with the odd name has copped £200k pw at Old Bog, fcuk me I wish I had his agent working for me…

  9. Lee says:

Yeah you fucking doubting Thomas’s look at how our previous windows have panned out……no pleasing some of you is there???

  10. Wath says:

Depends which rag you read Kev it could even be 220k a week, nearly as much as you get in a day off the old tourists…..

There are many many players out there just looking at the pay packet and even more agents, I don’t worry about missing out on those kind of individuals…. If we busy with the players we’ve identified then fair play but if anything like the last few seasons then the scatter gun approach isn’t gonna work seeing as we normally so overly concerned with paying the going rate and trying to put in offers way below the odds that just antagonize clubs and we lose out on maybe genuine targets….. We’ll never know but it certainly seems that way on many deals.

The H A is a fine institution indeed mate hence they throw me out regularly…!

  11. Wath says:

Lee, Now now… children are not supposed to swear… Then again…….. feel free 😉

Amazing how the blinkered are so easy to label yet don’t seem very able to debate a point or an opinion in the slightest..!

  12. Wath says:

Deals were done long before the 1st of July Jim…! The window also opens different dates in different Countries does it not..?

The point is, players are being signed way before July 1st which is when i think is the official date you can register a new player in the UK……. Deals are done and dusted as was Xhaka long before July 1st so again the point is get your business done early surely which is best for all concerned not leave it til late for an 11th hour trolley dash and miss out on players who clubs say sorry cant sell now how do we replace when it’s August the 30th…? We been there done that eh…!

  13. allezkev says:

Interesting to see the Mourinho comment on what managers have achieved over the last 10 years…

    Wenger hasn’t won a title.
Mourinho has been sacked 3 times.

But one thing is constant today, that is Mourinho is still as big a git as he was back then.

    Some things never change…

  14. Wath says:

Kev, Moreenyo is a rancid little turd who needs flushing…..

It’s so funny that he is sooooo obsessed with us and obviously Wenger still gets under his skin, Hope Wenger actually says it’s nice that the sacked one still has a half decent memory…! Although ignoring the prick is a much better bet as that seems to annoy him just as much.

As for him being a cnut thats useful… he certainly isn’t useful although turned upside down and used as a bog cleaner could be an option..!

  15. Jim says:

NO. you tried to be smart and belittle someone who was correct. It’s been open 4 days. Have u spoke to anyone at Arsenal too see what deals they have been considering or been in talks about?

  16. Wath says:

Actually Jim I wasn’t being smart at all and as for belittle someone I didn’t call him a child or address him as a child just because I have a different opinion to him and as I say which you not answered deals can only be officially registered July 1st in the UK doesn’t mean those deals are not signed weeks in advance….! As for deals going on funny enough I have but that’s not for me to spout on about on a public forum and i don’t…!

  17. obi says:

For a man that is an economist, it’s beyond reason that he has refused to acknowledge the fact that the marketplace for players have changed. When even mid level teams such as Palace, Everton, Stokes etc are paying 30+ for players AW needs to get out of his bubble, thats one. Two there also also reasonably priced players out there that he refuses to look at for an example Musa just went to Leceister city for 16m, a proper winger who can also play as a striker, Batstuayi for 23m, HM to united for 23.6m etc. Right now Wenger is making it really hard to be an Arsenal fan. Surely he doesn’t think that he can put the same team out there for the coming season? Btw good post Wath.

  18. Jim says:

Well I think you was by claiming someone can’t count who unless I can’t clearly can! You are a plonker who should have taken more time in writing your article which you yourself referred to as rubbish.
Why do u think Brexit won’t affect players salaries or valuations?

  19. Wath says:

Well can’t count seems about right when someone states something and then doesn’t hang around to discuss and call people children for not agreeing with him.

    As stated above June 9th…!

Why do I think brexit wont affect players salaries…. why do you want my opinion, i’m a plonker…!

  20. Wath says:

Good job Adam ain’t around Lee………. he’d have a field day and I’d be getting moaned at even more…!

  21. Wath says:

Obi, the prem lge has huge financial clout yet it seems Arsene would rather focus on just huge tv revenue…!

Also spot on regarding other lesser clubs spending more and more on players so the goal posts are moved, everyone has more funds available so the market relates to that, yes I agree there are many many over rated players in fact most are but thats the world we live in…! pay up of do without.

  22. Boyd says:

Oh please give us a break, we have enuf players to compete with anyone. Giroud is still a better option than Lukaku, Morata or anyone. Our midfield is packed with cream Ozil, Xhaka, Ramsey, Carzola, Elneny, the Coq, our wings are fast with Belerin, Mornreal at the back and Sanchez and Walcot or Chambo or Campbell in support. Gabriel must given a chance alongside Captain Kos he is certainly better than Mangala.

To think with all the above, we still to accomodate Wilshire, Awobi, Akpon etc we are good.

The buy and buy and buy pseudo gooners can go join their check hero at Manure.

Here at Arsenal we are class not football prostitues who think money can buy you happiness!

    Wenger and Giroud Forward Forever.

  23. Wavy says:

Being a pseudo gooner I think we do need a couple more. Specifically another striker, a goal scorer, a fox in the box. Not to replace Olly but to offer an alternative. And a good defender someone who can join/link with Kos on equal terms. Sure we are not desperate but we do lack competent available ‘back up’. It’s about strength in depth, we don’t have it. What we do have are at least 11 exceptional players what we don’t have are first rate stand ins!
Imo we need some new blood if only to shake one or two up! Is Wenger on it? Perhaps, perhaps not. Frustrating isn’t it?

  24. obi says:

Jim so Brexit will only affect arsenal and not the other EPL clubs? They are signing players. Furthermore players contracts are 3 to 5 years, at best Brexit is 2-4 yrs from implementation. Re Boyds @3:03 did I miss the sarcasm?

  25. Le Coq Monster says:

Just back from the beach and thought I`d come on and moan about Wenger already making excuses for why he couldn`t buy another player because of Brexit and then read that you have covered that …………..great minds……………………

I know most hate Maureen, but he does make me laugh and at least he isn`t using the Brexit excuse, but this quote is typically funny……………well I think it is !. hahaha

Mourinho: “I don’t like to talk about rivalries. All i’ll say is some managers win nothing & others are bald”

  26. Wavy says:

I’m sure I’ve seen the tell tale signs of the Pygmy not rising to the challenge of the widening parting, not to mention his grey/whiteness is making him appear profoundly old!
So he’s going bald and white and has won nothing for two years and has been sacked three times in the last five! Not a great cv, is it?
I wonder how he will deal with further failure at manure? Not well I suspect!

  27. Rick says:

    Evening All;
Kev Ginge Coach although Jeorge Bird and most of bloggers are referring it to the U21 academy league for next season, I have been told that the Clubs and the Premier league have at last reached an agreement and it is now the Premier League 2 under 23 compitition.

I believe that there is going to be a big launch this week when the complete set up will be explained.

It seems the League have given way on some of what they wanted, the main stumbling block being the size of the league .They wanted to increase it from the present 12 teams to take in most of the P/L teams but it looks like the clubs have kicked this into touch.

Looking at it from my point of view this could also kick the loan plans into touch because we will need more older players. More on that latter.
Adam do I get a pass mark for my english lol

  28. potter says:

If that’s to be the case then it can only be a good thing to give non first team players competitive adult football.

  29. Rick says:

Spot on Potter I think its a step towards the return of the London Combination Res League that we use to have

  30. Le Coq Monster says:

Anyone see one of the headlines on newsnow that Doctors in India have grown a boy a new nose on his forehead.
This is nothing new !……………Jose Mourinho`s nose has grown a cnut on it and John Terry`s nose has grown a prick on it !……..one of the reasons why the Chavs won so many trophie was that when they had any problems they got their heads together to sort it out !……well obviously that`s after their heads had sex, then they would sort out the problems afterwards laying in bed smoking and asking questions like………” You gave me a special one John, but I tink your formation and tactics may have given me an STD !…………..and your pressing high up has fatigued your dick, it looks like a specialist in failure !”

  31. Wath says:

Combination and a decent reserve league been lacking for years Rick, not great options for bridging the step up to 1st team footie, maybe now….

  32. Wavy says:

I really thought we were rid of Morono and now I find him all over Sky s news and the BBC web site, with his snide remarks, his bullshit predictions, his it’s all about me ‘philosophy, his continuous dismissal of all his ‘rivals, both past and present, his face, his hair, his le Coq ‘ré grown ladies’ bits and his lungs that provide him with the wherewithal to maintain life, his f..ing life! It’s time he realised that he is European and is likely to be deported as an unwanted member of the undesirable element of those who we would rather not have in our exclusive nation!

  33. allezkev says:

    Cheers Rick

Looking forward to seeing all the new (old) ideas regarding the Stiffs.
The present system develops proficiently technical players who are mentally suspect and a bit soft…

Have you heard anymore on the FL Trophy..?

    Afternoon All
    Afternoon Grandson

  34. allezkev says:

    That should have read;
    Technically proficient – terrible English…

I feel the eyes of the grammar police are on me…

  35. Wath says:

Adam, please sort Grandad out, he is losing the plot again with his English literature…

    Scott you lazy git..!

Have you seen Messie sentenced to 21 months in Jail for Tax evasion. Bet he gets away with it.

  37. Marshall says:

” However, in Spain it is customary that those sentenced to under two years for non-violent crimes do not serve time in jail…” Messi won’t see the walls of a jail cell.
