Morning all.
Monchi was coming to Arsenal. We knew that because the red tops back pages told us. However, they were wrong, they’re often wrong yet still we think ‘this one feels right.’ Ok, I say we, I guess I mean me. It made sense though re Monchi. Arsenal have to be smart with their money, Monchi is more like a banker the way he balances the accounts but he always signs players. Perfect.
Not big names, no, they were invariably sold for big money in order to level things out. He wouldn’t have been able to do that at Arsenal though because we don’t have players who’d bring in huge transfer fees if sold. The only way we’ll make £100 million plus is to sell in numbers. In my opinion anyway. The big name players we do have are older, 29 years or older so not many clubs would sign them, especially with the wages they’re on. Saying that, Monchi has been partial to signing an older player for a lot of money as Steven N’Zonzi proved last summer.
Attentions now turn to Marc Overmars apparently but yes, it’s the same people linking us to him who suggested Monchi was coming. He’s returning to Sevilla by the way. Overmars makes more sense to me. He’s an Arsenal fan favourite of years gone by. He’s currently Director of Football at Ajax, a position he’s held since 2012. Ajax won the Eredivisie title that season, the following season too but since then, second place has been their best finish. If we’re to believe The Sun newspaper, as if we would, Overmars has told the Dutch club he wants to move. We’ll see.
Back to real things and what went on yesterday at Goodison Park between Everton and Chelsea. A home victory for the Toffees was a great result for Arsenal but also a reminder that no fixture can be taken for granted, no team can either. It’s all a bit to easy to look at a group of players in any one team and think they can be beaten just because it didn’t cost hundreds and hundreds of million pounds to assemble, although in Everton’s case a fair bit of money has been spent on theirs, it’s whats inside a players heart and mind which matters more than anything. Chelsea have a glut of superstars, the standout being Eden Hazard yet something clearly isn’t right. Everton have good players, some very good but as far as I’m aware, none of the European top clubs are banging doors down to sign any of them. Clearly that didn’t matter and Everton as a group were more determined than their opponents.
A lot of talent and the right attitude goes much further than a great deal of talent but a lousy and lazy attitude.
After all, if they were both 25 years old and fit as a flea, who would you want in your team. Mesut Ozil Or Ray Parlour?
Have a good Monday guys…
Morning all.
It’s been a hectic and horrible few days down this part of the world.
Rico, on you’re post, my local A league side have an owner who won’t spend, we’ve had coach after coach, any decent player we have is sold and usually a season or two before we can really cash in but one things has stood our for years, and that’s the rubbish defence.
Well, with 6 games to go, without got a new man in to the hot seat, and on the weekend our lads beat last seasons Grand Finalist and who are contending this season.
The boys first away win in 21 games, and only 3rd or 4th win of the season.
What changed?
Our defensive formation, tactics and grit and determination were the best I’ve seen in years!!
That happened in a single week.
Incredible.
Go Everton 🙂
Hi Scott. The goings on in NZ have been awful. The mindset of these ghastly individuals is off the scale. There are no words to describe that nutcase really.
Re the team, beginners luck maybe…. 😜
New coach and all that comes with it, but seeing structure was something new lol
On the attack, Media and Politicians have a hell of a lot to answer for!!
You’ve not been watching Arsenal then Scott… lol
It’s a tough one really. It’s easy to lay the blame with politicians etc but there’s no planning for nutcases.
Morning Rico and all. Here in Nigeria, we have a saying that when the rat outwits a child, the rat is rubbished by been given a bad name. We applauded when ‘Diamond eye’ Mislinstat was mooted as a target for the club and was finally hired. He left the post in rather unclear circumstances. But from the grapevine, it was rumoured that the power intrigues/dynamics within the club frustrated him. Then, we had very good words passed around about Monchi, the relatively unheralded players he brought first to Sevila and later Roma and the fact that he had a great relationship with Emery at Sevila. Again Monchi according to the grapevine wasn’t comfortable with the power sharing structure at Arsenal.
The question is, how is this novel structure we have at Arsenal helping us or demarketing the club? We have been too ponderous in decision making that most transfer deals are taken from our noses.
Monchi is gone and Overmars seems the new bride. Hmmmmmm, fast forward, and in a few months time, we will have other targets on our lips. Up arsenal!!!
Morning Daniel. The story I read online about Sven was that he wanted the job role the club appear to be recruiting but he was told no. True or not I don’t know. I’d have thought Arsenal would have been a more ambitious move for Monchi and knows Emery well. Perhaps we never wanted him in the first place.
Who knows as all we fed comes from journos who probably know nothing more than we do. They though can make things up to sell their product.
Good morning Rico and all.
Back in dear old Blighty after a twenty one hour journey, including a twelve hour flight from Hong Kong to Heathrow. A bit dazed and sleep deprived, so I’ll catch up later or tomorrow. 😉
Morning Cicero, back safe and sound which is good. Sleep well. Lol
Morning all.
So, the Munchiebar has gone to Sevilla! Chocolate meets oranges, a marriage made in heaven. We were never in with a chance there! Whilst the present ‘target’ is OverMars, a sizeable chocolate and caramel bar that helps a body to work, rest and play! I know who I’d choose! A munchkin or a mars?
Imo for what it’s worth is, as a club we seeem to be giving out all the wrong signals, no money for transfers, not without sales first, no real ambition shown by the owners to invest who hide beneath the cloak of sustainability. No Director of football, well perhaps, no chief scout, sorry head of procurement in place……yet. Will there ever be? Wenger always questioned what their role could ever be, maybe he had a point😂
At the moment I think the club are making the noises but that’s all they are, there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of positive actions.
Still, I suppose, as with all things Arsenal, nothing happens until a notice is placed on .com!
Grey and cool here. We need some sun.
Seems like there might be a mini power struggle going on and in the meantime the deckchairs are being moved around as the ship hopelessly founders. To his credit ( Emery ) and that of the players , they are keeping us in touch with the holy grail and should they achieve it no doubt the others will creep to the forefront and claim the applause for their efforts .
Unless they do it will be hjarder for Dick to keep us in touch as his squad becomes drained with age money and desire taking a part . We , they can only hope that the yoof save us .
Afternoon Gooners
Afternoon Rico, was that your post, just wondered, ads and all? 🙂
Mislintat, now Monchi, that all seems a bit clumsy by Raul, let’s hope this isn’t a feature of his tenure in charge? I’m hearing that the club is thinking of an internal solution now, so that could mean Morrow or Cagageao (?), which would seem the more cost effective way to go and very KSE…
To be honest, we should be able to cope, I mean who is the transfer supremo at Liverpool or Man Utd, you never hear about them do you, have they even got one?
They seem to cope ok…
We seem to be turning into Chelsea, with unsavoury machinations going on behind the scenes, when all we want is performances on the field, frankly I’m sick of all the politics, we used to be a football club ffs…
we used to be a football club ffs
That went out the window a long time ago.
A nap, beans on toast and a cup of Rosy Lea has me refreshed and raring to go.
There seems to be a lot more time and effort being spent on non playing appointments than on actual players.
I don’t know what the club spends on all these newly appointed bureaucrats, but every penny paid to them means a penny less in our transfer kitty.
The board need to sort out their priorities and sort them out forthwith.
Afternoon all and another good post from El Rico.
Asking whether Ozil or Parlour in the team is like asking whether Bergkamp or David Hillier………………………Churchill or May ! hahaha
Great graph here to watch to show who spent the money !…………………….you know anyway and it`s unbelievable really how the more money spent accidently won more trophies for most ! hahahaha

Afternoon Kev. Mine with a couple of bits thrown in at the last minute. Couldn’t turn down the opportunity…
If the back room appointments mean we get things right and there’s a plan in place, it can only be good for our future surely?
Plus, we have a few old boys who might be thinking about hanging up their cigars now Wenger has gone. I know I hoped for a younger and more dynamic board so maybe this is all part of us getting one…
Liverpool – Michael Edwards
Utd – – Ed Woodward
Toots – Levy
City – Txiki
I guess them being in place means we don’t hear much although Edwards was praised for a few signings I think. It’s a big deal for us I suppose because Wenger always said he wouldn’t have a guy working on transfersetc as he did it all and loved the power.
Plus, anything we as a club do always gets chewed over by the media.
Thanks Lc. I disagree though. Bergkamp had both the brawn and the brain..
And the sense to stay away from airports lol.
2006 to be exact Potter.
No Overmars. the search continues…
Rico, still talking arsenal. The news have it that Overmars has signed an extension with Ajax. In 36 hours the two most touted names for our DOF are gone! Reading Monchi, he said he reject3d the interest from arsenal because Sevila had a better proposal. So there was an interest!
Our men behind the scene are certainly demarketing the club. It will get to a point where even players from the championship will reject us at this rate. Yeterday Monchi, today Overmars, please let them seek out Mislinstat and offer him the job.
Better financial package then Daniel..
See, I said The Sun tell fibs. 😜
I`m like Bergkamp, never get me up in a plane, if we were meant to fly we`d have grown wings and planes need to be made of the same material as black boxes as they`re the only thing that survives a crash .
From what I`ve read I get the impression that Raul is the big power at Arsenal now, a bit like Wenger without picking the team !
Give a choice of Parlour or Xhaka and I would take Romford every .time
Harry’s Heroes on itv right now, very entertaining !
Everton beating Chelsea was great, although as mentioned we still have to go to goodison, plus other tough looking away games.Still, we’re heading into April with top 4 in our own hands, who would’ve thought it ? Certainly not the media,so negative about us,it’s a joke.If we do make top 4 in his first season, that’s some achievement by Emery…
David Ospina, on loan to Napoli, was taken to hospital after collapsing on the pitch shortly before halftime in the match against Udinese. He had earlier received a head injury when he collided with an opposition player. He was later discharged from hospital but will rest over the International break.
Good afternoon. New post up now
