Arsenal starting to move as TWO bids made? One transfer hurdle could be over today….

Morning all,

What can happen in a week…

A short journey to the M4, over an hour of boring driving on the M5 was followed by some much more scenic views as I finally ventured into North Devon for a week of sun, sea and more sun and sea. Oh, and plenty of sand…..

North Devon can have beautiful weather this time of year. Just not this time, of this year…..I had a lovely break though but it would have been even more so, had it been a lot warmer.

Fido swam every day though! No, I didn’t, but I did manage to get my knees battered by the waves on many occasion…

Maybe next year the Maldives or the Caribbean? Then again, maybe not….

But there were positives – the centre court of Wimbledon has a roof and it was great to see Laura Robson win on Friday while rain stopped play on other courts. She was victorious again yesterday afternoon and boy did she have to fight for that win.

Other results over the first week were as up and down as the weather with many seeded players losing or suffering injury forcing them to retire. Not Murray though, he made sure he was through to the second week which is great for Britain, it’s been a long time since two British players have done that….

Not having the Internet was a bit of a drag to say the least and the only place that had Wi-Fi was the ‘local’ – and their prices made sure that only one trip was made to that establishment. Of course as soon as I got there I checked in and had a read around and to much surprise….

Nothing!

Actually, I wasn’t that surprised at all, that’s Arsenal, that’s what we have all become so very used to….

Tomorrow is the day that the transfer window officially opens and it’s the day that Arsenal need to start telling us that players are in, not just on their way.

Higuain, Rooney, Cesar, Williams and many more have been linked. It’s time for some of those to become real.

It’s time to prove that all this ‘stuff’ we fans are subjected to become real and that they are not just comments made to the press in order to keep us guessing.

Guessing and waiting…

Waiting to be left disappointed!

Moral of this story today?

No matter how far we fans travel in search of sunshine, and I suspect many of you out there have travelled many many more miles than me over the last week, Arsenal continue to stand still……

Ivan has promised us a great summer, now it’s time to deliver that promise…

Today the newspapers are quite amusing.

The Mirror write that we have made a £20 million offer for Wayne Rooney and now it’s expected that Chelsea will make a bigger offer.

The Sunday People however, suggests  it’s Torres we really want to partner Higuain up front this season. Best we sign Higuain first!

The Mirror also report that we ‘have failed with a £6million bid for Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier‘. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is understood to have dismissed Arsenal’s opening offer as ‘disrespectful’.

The Daily Star, yes I have to suffer reading such stuff at this time of the year, suggest that Micah Richards could be the one set to replace Sagna, if the Frenchman leaves this summer.

Of course there is todays Confederations Cup Final which will be the last match for Brazil’s Goalkeeper Cesar. He could then finally sort out where he’s playing next season. Most newspapers suggest that he’ll be joining us…

I’ll believe it when I see it, just like all the other stories…..

Finally, a huge thanks to Wath for keeping HH up and running last week, and to all of you of course…

Have a good day all, enjoy the sunshine….

    Morning Rico & all,
Not to sure Podolski enjoyed chasing back,
maybe wrong here but did he only play,
1 or 2 full 90 min games last season,
surely the ankle injury never happened
at the beginning of the season..did it.

Bumped into a couple of old manc mate the other day,
    rumour zzzzzzzzz,
up their…….Coleen Rooney fancies a bit of london?

    Sorry posted twice

  2. rico says:

Morning fred, I bet Mrs R would love London, but will her man be wearing blue or red in the capital…

    That’s the biggest question I guess…..

  3. Adam says:

I would imagine that Chelsea will buy Rooney should he decide to move. They will bid more money and offer him far more than we will.

  4. rico says:

Absolutely, or then again Higuain… Time will tell I guess…

Looks like we are after this Grenier chap

  5. Adam says:

Arsenal should incorporate the words, ” They will have to wait and see” into their logo. It’s about all anyone can say about the club these days. But then we have waited in the past and we have seen so, perhaps the current hiatus should come as no surprise or disappointment.

  6. Adam says:

Not entirely Rico though it is growing darker by the day. I need to spend some time by the sea. Brington perhaps? Always lovely this time of year.

  7. frednerk says:

Can’t wait for the season to start,
What a forward line we will have.
    Rooney,Podolski,Torres,Giroud,Walnut,Gervino,Higuain.
    seven up front,what a system.

No one has thought of that..have they?

  8. rico says:

For me it’s all about this coming week. That’s when the TW officially opens, if nothing by this time in two weeks time then I will just expect more of what we have seen over the last few years…

Players have been involved in the Confeds Cup, others have been on holiday.

Like I said in the post, Ivan has made big promises, now it’s time to deliver…

  9. rico says:

fred, I wouldn’t miss Gerv if he left, the rest would be spot on for me personally…

However, the chance of us getting Higuain, Rooney and Torres, well I reckon I have more chance on he National Lottery…

  10. Adam says:

I think the week after the week after next myself. But I may be prepared to extend that to August 31 st.

  11. allezkev says:

    Good Morning Gooners.

Morning Rico, a beautiful sunny day down by the seaside boss…
Glad you had a relaxing and well-earned break…

Wath did a sterling job in your absence…

    Morning Adam, I have a head like Lee’s. 😉
    It’s playing bongo’s between my ears…

  12. frednerk says:

    Not sure if it’s true,
but I hear queues are forming outside newsagent shops,
    up and down the country,
arsenal fans just can’t wait to read…who we have signed.

  13. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to the Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners.

Kev – Did you get your hands on some of that Aussie Gooner Wonder Brew of Scott’s? Is that why your head is playing Umbongo. You have to be careful, you home counties lads shouldn’t be drinking those colonial brews.

  14. ubongabasi says:

I prefer rooney to higuin, dont think we really need torres, remember benayound? We need someone to anchor that midfield, did u say fellaini? Ok, but we have good custodians in sczesny and fabianski so drop dis talk about cesar, he is free to go to rome.

  15. rico says:

Morning again all… Ak, CG and Scott…

Great to hear the sun is shining for you Ak 🙂

    Which two Scott? 😉

Welcome and thanks Devonian Gunner, i shall be back, that’s for certain..

  16. Lee Umbongo says:

Someone mention Umbongo?? AK are you follicly challenged? I thought you had a good head of hair???

  17. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – I’m glad to hear you had a good holiday despite the lack of sunshine. W.A.T.H is to be commended for keeping things ticking over and for staying cool, calm and collected under fire. A few posters took exception to the fact he had no concrete transfer news to post. Not his fault, but that point was lost on some very impatient and thoughtless houseguests.

I seem to recall from last summer that nothing happened in the transfer market unless you were away shopping. If nothing happens this week, we may have to pass the hat and send you on a shopping expedition.

  18. W.A.T.H says:

    Yeh Lee, Richards is Arsenal….!

Glad you enjoyed your week Rico everyone was very well behaved apart from Lee who was mangled and ended up in Geneva…!

  19. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Good morning all1
No Torres. No Cesar for me, Besides, they must stop for holidays after Confederations Cup final.

  20. rico says:

Cg, there are always a few who batter the wrong people.

Wath commended, now I need to think on that one 😉

Thanks Wath, Lee mangled, surely not, so unlike him…

Talking of which, Hi Lee and yes, Richards is a Gooner, some say he’s a party animal though. Me, I’d love to see him at Arsenal, have done for a few years now….

  21. rico says:

    Hi JM,

Only Monreal and Santi for us.. Reports suggest they will miss the tour which is understandable.

The rest of the squad return to training this Thursday…

  22. Wavy says:

Last week was as good as the programme TW3 and the song that introduced it,

That WATH the week that WATH,
    Its over now its gone,
Ooo what a week that WATH,
    …………………

    Marvellous, the boy done good!

The sub is replaced by the first choice centre editor. Welcome back Rico. Well done Wath.

  23. W.A.T.H says:

Thanx Wavy, it’s easy to hold the fort with decent people on here and at least we always try and have a laugh as well..!

  24. Canadian Gooner says:

I’m off to bed to catch a few hours sleep before the Confrderations Cup final kicks off. Have a good day everyone and Keep the Faith.

  25. agirlagunner says:

Boo!! rico, your Deputy Sheriff did a great job. But maybe you should ask him to pay advert fees for his daily promotion of GG. 😀
Howdy? Neding a post-holiday holiday, eh?

Oh, and I love these Torres rumors!

  26. W.A.T.H says:

I’ll give you old Rico, least I not senile as your calling CG DG…!

    Plonker…! Night CG,
Evening lady AGAG, not so much of your cheek either..! I did the GG proud last night drank copious amounts..!

  27. rico says:

Boo to you agag, yes, I need a holiday already 😉

    🙂 re Wath….

Ha ha Wath, Silly me, sorry Cg..

Talking of Dg, it’s a long time since he has been here and he hasn’t answered my recent email. Hope he’s ok, maybe just on holiday…

  28. agirlagunner says:

You always do the GG proud, how you don’t end up taking a train to Timbuktu after a night out is a mystery. Or have you?? 😀

    Good night, CG!

  29. agirlagunner says:

Yeah, our Dutch contingent has been quiet of late. 🙁 I trust that they’re busy raising hell where they are. 😀

  30. Wavy says:

    Old is a relative term!
Schwartzer is “old” but at forty he’s not really old?…!
Whereas Nelson Mandela is properly old at 94.
It may be that WATH falls between these two extremes which, in fairness makes him sort of middle aged?
While on this subject I think Methuesela was quite old at about 957 years. That’s Biblical! Epic!
    And so on………
I wouldn’t mind a 40year old goalkeeper as a stop gap or back up to what we’ve got, though.

  31. snaparse says:

hi everybody im new here bt i must say your blog is top notch……….i won’t believing any arsenal related rumour untill its on arsenal.com

  32. Micko says:

rico, you notice how everyone moans about the weather but does nothing about it.
Wavy, inside every older person is a younger person wondering what the fcuk is going on !
    Howdy agag.

  33. W.A.T.H says:

I have not ended up in Timbukto AGAG but have woken up in Barnet after missing Chalk Farm but that was a few years ago, I try not to get on trains when have had a skin full.

Thanx Wavy, I’m am exactly like Schwartzer NOT Mandela he ancient..! He nearly as old as AK..!

  34. agirlagunner says:

I’m fine, Micko. And you? Hope you have sunshine where you are. What’s in Wembley Market? 🙂

    Hello, Wavy. 🙂

  35. agirlagunner says:

WATH, not quite as bad as Lee, at least. 😀

rico, another slow news day, but I do like these Torres stories. Noat that Maureen would ever sell to us. 😕

  36. Micko says:

Agag, nearly into July and some folk are still putting down open fires here, it’s cold and rainy.
I think it’s safe to say Wembley Market probably wouldn’t be your scene unless your after a second hand sheepskin jacket that is !

  37. rico says:

    Roman might though agag 😉

I knew you’d like the Torres story, thought that when I was writing them….

  38. rico says:

Welcome snaparse, sorry for the delay, all first comments go into moderation.

Thanks re HH, hope you stick around and become part of it…

  39. agirlagunner says:

Didn’t think of that, rico. Hmmmm. I think that the Chavs cutting their losses with a Torres sale would be very much our gain. He’s another player with something to prove. And he can do so with our club.

Micko, I’ve no need for a sheepskin jacket. It’s almost always hot here. But I tend to check out all markets, to be honest. 😛

  40. agirlagunner says:

By the way, earlier in the day, yesterday’s post was the second most read on NN. 😉

    Hello, snaparse.

  41. rico says:

The other thing is Agag, I don’t think the Chavs/Mancs see us as a huge threat any more – 4 top signings and we will be though…

  42. agirlagunner says:

rico, if not this summer, maybe we’d buy Torres in the January window. 😉 By then, Maureen would know if Torres is in his plans.

I hope Man United does NOT get Thiago. That boy is good.

  43. rico says:

Will be interesting to see what Moanrinho does up front agag… Can’t see Torres hanging around playing second fiddle – just look what that has done for Rooney…

  44. agirlagunner says:

And with the WC next year, both Shrek and Torres I’m sure they would want to want to be playing.

  45. devilgunner says:

Good Afternoon Lady, Sir and Gentlemen.

Welcome back Lady. Refreshed and relaxed? you should come down to the Med while the sun is not yet frying us. Next week we will be frying a bit but it will go down again after that.

Have we signed Bingo Bongo yet? Or Nobo Dy?

I gather it is the latter which will mean that somewhere a fiver will be remaining safe!!! 😉

  46. rico says:

Afternoon Devil, thanks. All refreshed and ready for new signings 😉

I love the Med but now I have a woofa, my overseas travel days are long gone…..

  47. Joaquim Moreira says:

    it’s very hot here!
Torres is in the headlines of all media press…. brrr … and Cesar too… brrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

  48. JonJon says:

    ricolicious, there you are.. 🙂

trust me to make an appearance when you are on your jollies..
    timing was nearly perfect though..

    alls well my dear,.

yeah i got me tent pitched over at yogis gaff…although ive lost me nemisis due to yogi having a clearout, but others are stepping up..

nice to see ya. and some old names around the place as well..howdy 🙂

    wheres erick?

  49. rico says:

I don’t go far for too long JJ …

Who was you nemisis over there?

Erick pops on here every now and again and the site has many regs now, most of whom you may not recognise, together with the oldies, we have fun, as well as talking football sometimes 😉

  50. W.A.T.H says:

No probs JJ, You gave me a complex, I went and changed my deodorant when you vanished…!

All good here mate just waiting for the avalanche of signings to materialise.

  51. JonJon says:

    the pedantic one.. 🙂

yeah its a nice little setup you got here, always was 🙂

footballs very important…not a right lot of it to talk about at the minute though

  52. rico says:

Thanks JJ, should have been the same somewhere else but….

    That’s life I guess.

Wath, I still believe we will get at least two goodies. And i don’t mean Bill Oddie 😉

  53. JonJon says:

    😆

well if you listen to everything thats been written over the weeks, by the time the windows over, there will be nobody to play because we’ve bought everyone..

i’ll settle for higauin and felliaini though

  54. W.A.T.H says:

Most are back thursday only Santi and Monreal getting extra as they at confed cup and obviously anyone we buy who may be involved n that mickey mouse competition..!

  55. rico says:

You mean the Ems cup Wath, Micky Mouse, surely not… 😉

Just hope that doesn’t go pear shaped….

  56. rico says:

Blackpool have accepted an offer for Cardiff for Tom Ince, come on Arsenal, go match it!!!

    Or even beat it…

  57. Joaquim Moreira says:

Totts two new signs: Tim Jedvag (defender) and Halilovic (midfield) from Croatia Zagreb. Halilovic is a young player but very good.

  58. potter says:

Estrella dorada the beer of Catalunya. WAtching the confed final in a bar near Barcelona hakf time the licals are not happy but with a bottle of cild Torres de Casta I really dont care.

  59. Adam says:

I watched the first half but couldn’t be bothered to watch a bunch of prancing ponces throwing themselves all over the place for another 45 minutes.

  60. rico says:

I didn’t watch any of the match, far too late…. 😉

Is it true that one of he commentators said we had signed Cesar?

Thought you might like it Ak 🙂

    Morning all…

  61. tsgh says:

    Morning all,

So the spuddies have signed the 2 young Croats we were after!Ah,so it was not ‘arry who went after who we were linked with and bought them…its the chairman saving on scouting cost.

Pique getting found out last night was hilarious…

  62. tsgh says:

    Maybe Scott…

At least going by Espn,Cesar is ours…
I was hoping for your country man but I guess,I can’t really complain…
For some reason I am not excited about any of the players we have been linked with…

  63. Scott from Oz says:

You are a hard marker Ginge.
We have been linked with anyone that has laced up a boot over the last 12 months….surely one or two would excite you lol

  64. tsgh says:

    Hi Scott,
You know come October…hopefully not btw…we will be the very few staying positive and all but,AW not bidding for the young league player of the year is a disgrace…Ince being English and a gooner and all…
Unless Eisfield and Serge are given more chances…

  65. Scott from Oz says:

I know what you are saying Ginge, but is Ince what we need?
We have a heap of young, equally talented players.
We need some big guns right now, i reckon.

  66. Scott from Oz says:

That is not a knock on Ince, either…he is very good.
    Imagine we got him though?
How many fans would be bagging Wenger?
This Sanogo is awesome, and if he cost 30 million, plenty around the world would be ecstatic 🙂

  67. Lee says:

Scott, I concur with your 9:12am….. Morning peeps, the floodgates are going to open on this the first day of the transfer window! Players forming an orderly having their medicals at Colney as I type…… or b) as Rico often says! 😉

  68. tsgh says:

You are right about Ince, Scott… the thing is I see him making it ahead of the likes of Ryo…if you have seen him play he has that fighter in him… that big game player attitude who keeps going even when getting kicked…

Rico, yes the commentator implied a deal had been agreed but not personal terms….

  69. rico says:

    Morning Lee.

I too agree we need some big guns, but I’d love us to get Ince. Wenger wants more English players, he’s one of the better ones around right now.

Looks like AW is not interested in him though…

    B) – I caught that from you 😉

  70. rico says:

    I did 🙂

The toads are very quiet his morning, I think Ak found Estrella yesterday, he’s prob fast asleep still 😉

  71. rico says:

Its one of my favs, was introduced to it in Menorca many years ago. I have to admit to failing to handle it with care on many a warm sunny evening 🙂

  72. Scott from Oz says:

Ginge, word has it Feyenoord want Ryo back for a loan.
    Morning Rico, Lee….anyone else.
